Merry Christmas and happy holidays from Arizona's Christmas City.
I'm Mayor Kathy Rusing, and welcome to your first community update.
Each Monday for City Council Week, I'll share a brief snapshot of what's happening in our community,
what's coming up at City Hall, and how you can stay informed and involved.
This is, in fact, my way to keep all of us connected and to make local government more accessible.
As we continue into the holiday season, Prescott is once again filled with community spirit.
Ackernight Musical Showcase is this week, December 12th, Friday at 5 p.m.
It will be an evening when local businesses open their doors, musicians perform throughout downtown,
and the whole area comes alive with lights and music, and it raises money for children's music programs in the Quad City area.
So, be downtown on Friday, December 12th at 5 p.m. for opening ceremonies.
It's a tradition that many families look forward to each year and a wonderful opportunity to support the arts and enjoy downtown.
Looking ahead to New Year's Eve, the Whiskey Row Boot Drop will welcome 2026 right in the heart of downtown.
Be sure and be there.
It's a lively, family-friendly, and continues to be one of our most enjoyed community.
community celebrations, and there will be lots of fireworks.
Prescott truly shines this time of year, and I hope you'll find a moment to join friends and
family downtown and enjoy the warmth of the season, and don't forget to shop till you drop.
Our next council meeting will take place tomorrow December 9th, 2025.
At 1 p.m., during our study session, we will receive an important presentation from our
Community Development Department on how recent state legislation may affect.
community development here in Prescott. Since it's a study session, there will be no voting,
but the public is always welcome to attend. There will be bills that will remove any transparency
and public input and are effective on January 1st. They will affect housing, planning and zoning
matters that shape long-term growth in our city and affect what goes on in your neighborhood.
Then at 3 p.m. during the voting session, we'll hear from our lobbyists.
who will present an update to the city's legislative platform for the upcoming state session.
This is our opportunity to set clear policy priorities that represent Prescott's needs and
values. As always, full agendas and documents are available on the city's website.
If a topic interests you, please attend in person and you are always welcome to speak.
Or watch online. Meetings are live streamed and available to watch later on Facebook and
YouTube. This will be our first full meeting of our new City Council, and we are ready to work hard
for you and to represent you, the people of Prescott. As we enjoy this season, I want to thank the many
volunteers and organizers, local businesses, artists, and community groups who work hard to bring
holiday traditions to life here in Prescott, Arizona's Christmas City. And I also want to thank
our city staff and the residents who serve on boards and commissions. Your contributions help keep
our community strong and ensure that Prescott remains a place where people value our history,
our traditions, and our sense of community. I hope you'll continue to tune in and share these
updates with neighbors, bring ideas, and stay engaged. Visit the city website for information
on how to participate. And as you enjoy this Christmas season, I hope you'll take
time to reflect on peace, joy, and gratitude. Merry Christmas and happy holidays, and we'll see you
downtown. Bye-bye.
