Hey, everybody. Welcome back to Signal's AZ News podcast. Today, I get two for the price of one. So we've got Armando and Julia with H.T. fencing. Tell us a little bit about what you guys do. When it comes to the fend industry, we do it all. Whether it's a chain link fence, a wood privacy fence or an ornamental fence, we are the guys to reach out in order to get that done. But if you're looking for something a little bit more decorative, a little bit more custom,
We're also your guys that can do that.
So when we say call the guy, you're the guy?
HD fencing, Armando.
Yep, I am the guy.
So I'm starting to get jealous because we have a nice gate.
We live way out of Antelope Meadows.
And, you know, it's just, it's crazy to me that people don't, like every house should have a gate now.
Because it's like, one, if you knock on my door, like, oh, I was in the neighborhood.
No, you weren't.
Like, if you've knocked on my door, you weren't in the neighborhood.
But it's just nice knowing, like, when you go home and you close that gate, the whole world is.
left behind you, but I'm getting jealous because I'm driving past houses now and they have these
big, like, they're initial on the gate, or now you're even seeing, like, flowers and stuff.
How does that happen?
Like, how do you guys do that?
It starts with an idea, a crazy idea that you want to break in and do something a little
bit more artful, a little bit more of a statement piece.
And so at that point, we've tightened up our belts and,
did a lot of self-training in regards to the automated system.
From there, it's just a little bit of creative touch and some magic from Julia over there
and when she's able to draw up on the computer and showcase to our clients.
So that's where you step in.
That's my piece.
I do the cadding and we use our CNC cutter to create really just about any design that
somebody could want on their gate.
That's cool.
We want to touch piece real quick on that gate that we're doing up in Prescott.
for certain clients that involve like the deer, the trees.
Yeah, we had a client reach out who wants a very decorative gate,
and it's got a deer and some trees, pine trees.
And he actually found the design online off of Etsy.
He just sent me the file, and I was able to buy it and cut it.
And we're going to install that gate for him.
And it's a pretty intricate design with the deer and the pine trees.
Yeah, I was thinking just, you know, whatever letter that was on the gate, I remember.
But that seemed intricate, but you can do a whole picture.
Yeah, we can do a whole picture.
I've got all kinds of nature scenes.
I've got different fonts if you want your own name on there.
I've created different like Valentine's Day signs and home decor.
But yeah, definitely can go on your fence as well.
So you guys, I was talking to a realtor and he was talking about different things that help with your home pricing.
You know, if you're getting ready to sell a home, things that you can do that are not a
super big expense, but really add to the value of the home. And one of them was garage doors. And we actually
talked to a garage door guy yesterday. And he's like, yeah, it's like almost 300% ROI on a garage
door. But he also mentioned, you know, the designer fencing or the really, even just fencing. So,
but you guys do more than just, you know, the fencing, which is a lot. But you guys do privacy screens,
you do. So for those people that want to have like a jacuzzi in the backyard or something, and you
don't want your neighbors to see. You want to elaborate on that a little bit? What you guys do with
those? Yeah. So we've been creating some privacy screens for people that, like you were saying,
have jacuzzis or just a wind screen even. Some people are trying to block wind from their back patio.
And we can do just simple designs as far as flowers, like we've mentioned. There's also abstract
designs with different, you know, polka dots or abstract. I think we have a golf guy teeing off right now as well.
quote from, you know, golfing and it's supposed to be funny.
That's cool because you think about, you know, what I think about with privacy screens or the wind block to me is huge.
Especially where you're located or if you're in Chino, Pauldin, you're known to be in a windy area.
So when you're out back on the patio with your friends and all that, having a nice decorative windblock just might make that back patio from a spot to be to the spot to be.
I love that. We were talking to a screen guy and he does gutters and screens and stuff.
And he's like, you can do that, like the automatic screens. I worry about wind with those because those get, you know, and he's like, oh, they're rated for, which I'm sure they're great.
But this is an alternative to that as well. So absolutely. And something that I don't think we've touched on yet is that we've created them to be interchangeable.
If that's something that a client was looking for, you know.
So if you're really into a certain holiday or a season or...
I would think seasonal, right?
Yes.
Perfect.
Currently, you know, America's birthday is coming up.
So if you wanted to put up something along the lines of, you know, a happy birthday or a nod to America,
keep your eye out on our social media because we will have something coming out specifically for America and their birthday.
Yeah, we're guys, we're talking about that.
I want to definitely link that to this podcast, too, to where people can check out the cool stuff that you guys are doing.
because it is, that is one thing about Prescott.
It's, you know, America, rodeo, you know, we're super involved with the rodeo.
And that's the big theme this year is just, you know, it's a big deal.
It is a big deal.
And, you know, life is crazy right now, but it's still at the end of the day, you know, we are who we are.
We take care of each other and, you know, we just keep doing what we do.
And it is something to really celebrate.
How long have you guys been in business?
We've been operating under our own ROC.
license for the last eight years. It was in 2018, 2017, where everything was kind of finalized.
And then I'm sure as new business owners, you've seen a few things, some things you've learned
along the way, some things you do differently now. Oh, yes. What are some of the biggest, if you
could talk to a business owner that's getting ready to start a business? What are there's some
words of advice that you might give them? From the very beginning, customer service.
Returning a phone call, whether it's a day late or two days late, returning that phone call makes a difference.
Besides that, when you go out there, you know what you're doing.
So just let the client know that, hey, you hired a professional.
You're trying to hire a professional.
Let me guide you through this process that you might not be familiar with.
Everybody wants a fence, but they don't necessarily know what style of fence or what fence would suit them best.
You know, if you have livestock versus a dog, we might be talking about a certain type of fence versus a different one.
If you have a 120-pound dog versus a 10-pound chihuahua, and you're trying to stay more economical, there's a better option for you.
So I like the idea of, you know, so many people will just tell the homeowner what they want to hear.
Okay.
You know, they're afraid to be assertive.
They're afraid to be.
And you don't have to be rude or assert, but it's like, you know what you're doing.
Like, you know this isn't going to work.
There's been situations where, you know, a client wanted me to build a certain type of fence
using rebar instead of posts and this and that.
And quite frankly, I was just like, ma'am, the way you're asking me to construct this fence,
like I can't do it.
I won't warranty.
It's not going to work.
Things right now are expensive.
So I can go down the path of pleasing you and install this fence, knowing that here in a few
years, you're going to end up calling me, telling me that this fence I installed is wavy and this and
that when I was just trying to follow what you, the homeowner, wanted. At that point, I stepped in and I
provided her a better plan on how to install that fence. And I think she had more of a more peace of
mind because at the end of the day, any fence that H.T fencing installs, it's backed up by a 20-year
limited lifetime warranty. So it doesn't matter if I installed it two years ago, 10 years ago,
15 years ago, if one of my welds breaks, if it starts leaning due to, you know, cement
missing or something like that, you give me a call, we're going to show up and we're going to
handle it. And then we're going to shake hands and make sure that you're happy, we're happy,
and I'm going to see you at the grocery store. That's, I always like to mention that.
It's like, you know, you can hire local or you can hire from out of town. But there's
something to be said about you knowing that when we go to the market, odds are you're going
to see me and go, yep. Do I want?
to see you and duck, or do I want to see you and say, you know, hey, Alicia, how do things go?
How's the fence going? How's the dog enjoying the yard?
Yeah. One of our favorite things last year was going to the rodeo and we saw one of our current
clients working on their jobs and they said, oh, that's our fence guy.
That's us. I'm the podcast girl now.
Oh, she's the podcast girl. I'm more than that.
That put a really good feeling. We were walking past each other and she noticed this last glance
and so out of nowhere she turns around and it wasn't a quiet, oh, hey, there's our
guy. No, it was, you know, she was proud and pointed right at us. And I mean, how does that not make
you feel good? Knowing that you provided a service, you, you, you excelled what they wanted, you know.
She's proud of you guys for sure. Exactly. And they feel good when they make a good choice.
It's like, you know, everybody wants to like, those are my guys right there. And so, you know,
she's going to tell all of her friends, you know, she's calling you out at the rodeo.
So, but same would go if, you know, you did a bad job. They'd be like, oh, there's that guy.
But you're going to see them everywhere.
It's everywhere.
Town's not big.
People like to think that I'm a Prescott native.
I was born in Prescott 33 years ago, raised here in Prescott Valley.
And so I've seen the growth, especially as the last eight years as a contractor, I've seen the growth.
But if you think that this town is still big enough where you're not going to run into your client here and there, yeah, you're mistaken.
So to all you know, guys, just show good faith, do what you say you're going to do, provide a quality job.
And in this town, you're going to be just fine.
Yeah.
I talk to people that, you know, opening up a new business and they're coming from, you know,
another state or in the valley.
And, you know, I talk to them all the time.
I'm like, well, did you join a chamber?
Did you do this?
Did you do that?
And, oh, well, you know, those things don't work.
I mean, personally, I can tell you that I had that thought where investing time into such a
network group would be.
detrimental to my business, right? I'm no longer out there selling or installing. Now I'm just
having a conversation with people. Well, I've since then joined B&I. And let me tell you what,
I have learned so much not only from a professional standpoint, but as a personal standpoint.
I'm now surrounded with people that I'm able to relate how, you know, how it is to run a
business. I mean, I think right now everybody's top of mind is.
is where did all the employees go?
No one can find an employee.
I don't, it doesn't matter what industry you're in.
I've spoken to the electricians.
I've spoken to the plumbers.
I've spoken to the landscapers.
I had a garage door guy in here yesterday.
It was the same thing.
We're all on the same boat.
Well, and when you hold yourself to such a high level of expertise and customer service,
it's not just finding a guy.
It's finding the right guy.
Trying to find the right fit.
So what I look at is the right gear.
You know, a company is just, it's a giant machine.
We're all different little gears.
You just got to find where to place that gear so that it all just keeps running nice and smoothly.
Yeah.
And that's, we talk about it all the time where we're talking about, yeah, the town is growing, but we need industries in our town and they have to have a place to live.
They have to have, you know, doctors and fence guys and, you know, to where we keep running.
You know, we're not heading to our calling Phoenix every time we need something.
You know, we've got the right people here and they can find a place to live and they're, you know, able to raise a family.
So it's tough.
I'm hoping that with time that that bubble will pop because, like I said, I was born in Prescott.
You've seen so much.
I've seen so much.
I bought my place in 2019.
Yeah, we did that.
That was a real struggle for us.
By golly, I didn't think I was going to afford to live in the town I grew up in.
And that just crushes me because I know there's lots of natives.
Yeah, there's so many families that are raising our kids to leave.
You know, basically, it's like, well, I don't know how you're going to do it.
But you can't find a place to live.
You can't find work.
You got to go.
But hopefully it'll all come together.
So if I want, because I'm going to call you anyway, because we have, I talked about my gate that's on kind of a.
a dirt row turn.
I want that kind of,
well, I didn't even know I needed it.
My husband said we need to get that to the 45 degree ankle.
So I'm going to call you.
Maybe I just have an idea of,
because now my husband's like,
why doesn't my gate look like that?
I'm like, it opens and closes.
That's all I know.
You can't.
I mean, even if you have,
let's just say you have a pre-existing gate
and you would like to add a decorative touch to it.
Reach out, call the wife, Julia, here.
you'll have a consultation.
She'll draw you up multiple designs at that point.
We'll cut it out.
Nine out of ten times we can add it to your existing gate.
I love that.
I like that a lot because it is, my gate works fine.
It's, you know, doing what it's supposed to do.
You drive up, it opens.
It closes behind you.
Perfect.
But it's that, you know, everybody around us says they're getting a little bougie.
And my husband said, we talks about wannabe ranch because we got five beggars.
Basically, we got chickens.
Oh, they're fun.
They're great.
Right there on the front gate.
The wannabee ranch.
The wannabee is so cool.
We did, my husband did a big wooden sign one time.
We cut it all out and stuff and it's the half fast ranch.
Awesome.
Because when my kids were small, they'd be like, why does dad care if we do it half fast or half slow?
And I was like, yeah, it's not what he's saying.
It's okay.
Yeah, you keep thinking.
Yeah.
So we're the half fast ranch.
I was like, oh.
That's cute.
So do we call you if we want something done?
We call.
What's the process?
What do we do?
You can give us a call in the 928-9103326.
It'll come to me or go to Armando, but you'll get me.
And we can talk about whatever designs you want.
And if you have something specific in mind, something you found on Etsy or Pinterest,
you can send that over to my email or we can just talk about whatever you are looking for and get it designed.
And if I have no idea, you can help me through that too.
Absolutely.
Yeah, that's the beauty. Not only is Julia able to take a design from something that you've seen elsewhere and help you come, you know, bring that to life. But if you're completely unaware of what you want at this point, a couple of questions from Julia's side and she'll be able to personalize something.
Now, how do I know if I'm putting in a fence, like do we have to pull permits for that? What do we have to do? Is that something you guys take care of or do I have to research that before we call you?
So I like to keep it quite simple for the client.
You know, you call it, we set up the appointment.
At that point, I'm going to figure out why you need the fence,
try to tailor something around that need, right?
Versus sometimes the need versus the want, right?
The heart wants something, but truly we need something.
I want a moat that comes down.
I want you to build me like a whole, yeah.
And so once we finalize what you want, you know,
we get a formal sign terms and conditions and all that.
From there, I take over.
I submit all the permits, whether it be HOA, the county, city of Prescott, town of Prescott Valley,
Cottonwood, anywhere down there.
But we'll also, the week prior to install, I'll call Blue Stick.
I'll notify them of all the, you know, where we're going to be digging so they can come out and mark the utilities.
As I'm doing this, you get email notifications letting you know, hey, here's your start date.
Here's your start date.
here's when the crew is going to arrive from there.
When I call him BlueStake, you get an email notifying you, hey, Blue Stake's been called.
They have 48 hours.
Now, some clients are unfamiliar with what it is.
So it actually breaks down to you what Blue Stake is, what a private utility is versus a public.
So what I like to tell people is a public utility is from the street to your house.
If you have something going from your house to the garage, that is a private line.
So that will not be marked.
So at that point, we'll have a conversation about having you guys reached out to a private utility who can mark that for us.
Perfect.
Perfect.
So you make it super, super easy.
I'm glad you mentioned the HOA because what my idea is and what the HOA is going to allow sometimes are two different things.
So the moat probably won't fly.
Depending on where you're at, it's probably not going to fly.
Yes, ma'am.
Maybe a two-foot depth.
There you go.
Yeah.
The job bridge, little armed guards out there going, hey.
The drop gate.
Get you an intercom.
Here we go.
Yeah.
We put up a silent town that says, you must be lost.
Town is six months.
That is hilarious.
I love that.
That is hilarious.
I think you turned.
You should have taken a left turn at Albaquickey.
Yeah.
Anybody remember that?
That's funny.
Yes.
So, all right.
So you guys, I'm assuming word of mouth is important to you,
taking care of your clients, been in business for eight years.
I see another 20 years in your horizon.
Keep doing what you guys are doing.
Thank you. Thank you.
We're really striving to continue to provide the same quality that everybody's come to know.
But like I mentioned, the last couple of years, we're really trying to break into some more decorative, more custom work.
So whether it's stock or custom, I think we might have something for you.
Awesome.
Do you have anything exciting coming up that you guys are working on?
Man, yeah.
Julia, she designed this privacy panel.
for a little node to America and happy birthday, you know, 250th birthday to America.
And so we actually partnered up with a marketing firm and we'll have a video coming out on our social media showcasing that.
It's highlighting that privacy panel.
And it's highlighting America's birthday, which.
Good birthday, America.
Happy birthday, America.
250.
It's huge.
Crazy.
It's going to be such a good.
I know the rodeo zoo
a ton of stuff with that.
The summer's going to be just a blast
around here.
Fourth of July.
I mean, both Prescott
and town of Prescott Valley have historically
done a wonderful
fireworks show. They really, really
do. So I could only imagine
how
hard they're going to go this year for
America. You know, it's funny, is we
from our house, I can kind of see a little bit of
Chino, I can see Prescott, I can see Prescott
and it's like, oh, that's cool.
last year it's like okay we're doing it we're facing the crowds we're going to go in we went to the
pv show before we've gone up to like watson lake which was cool tv show last year was incredible
i'm a little biased because i was raised in prescabend but those fireworks and the display not only that
but the event itself you know and all the um sponsors that come out and all the local family
when you when you show up to an event like that even though we
are growing. It reminds you. This is a small town. This is why I came here. I want to be able to
wave to such and such. I don't even know them, but friendly. We want friendly. I want to be able to wear
my hat and know everybody knows me as their fence guy and you took care of them. Awesome. So
repeat your number one more time. They want to get a hold of you. We're at 928-9103326. And they can
check out your website at htfencing.net. Easy peasy. You guys. Thank you.
you so much for taking care of everybody in our community, keeping critters out, keeping
critters in, whatever the case may be. We're going to talk about that moat or see if we
make it happen. Let's reach out to the HOA. Let's see what we can do.
HOA is going to be like, yeah, no. You guys, thanks so much for coming in. Thank you for having
us. Thank you. Welcome. We'll see you next time.
See you.
