In a rodeo round-up article from last March, you met Mike Alderite, the facilities manager for the Prescott Frontier Days registered, world's oldest rodeo registered. Mike had been busy perfecting his arena maintenance throughout the year and scored second place in the prestigious Justin Best Footing Award for 2023. His parting shot was I'm a competitor and I want to get my title back. Mike's hard work paid off and in October he was awarded first place in the turquoise circuit by the women's professional rodeo association, WPRA, who found that Mike had gone above and beyond this past year to ensure safe ground for the animal athletes of rodeo, specifically the barrel racing horses. Justin Brands and the WPRA have been partners for several decades in a program that makes the health and well-being of the animal athletes the main focus. With Mike's extensive experience, events such as barrel racing, team roping, and all-out rodeo are made safer because of the durability, flexibility, and safety he builds into the soil.
Starting point is 00:01:07 His care makes the arenas as safe and consistent as possible for all rodeo livestock. In June of this year, Mike worked the soil for the College National Finals Rodeo, CNFR, and Casper Wyoming and the Pro Rodeo in Santa Fe, New Mexico, both featuring iconic arenas. In September, he did the ground work at the Findley Toyota Center for the Mortensen Invitational Bull Riding event, and just finished the PRCA Turquoise Circuit Final in Camp Verde. Mike also grooms the arenas for the high school rodeo finals here in Prescott. We've had professional barrel racers here and I video their events so I can see how they run and how they score, Mike related. He enjoys getting to meet and no great contestants from all the rodeos, and many big-name professional barrel racers will attend the award ceremony. Mike and the PFD Rodeo Committee will be recognized at the WPRA Star Celebration for their outstanding work on December 5th at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
