The Yavapai Casa for Kids Foundation celebrated a huge milestone on May 2, raising $52,514 during its 11th annual champions for children, a triple crown affair event.
The sold-out event welcomed 181 guests, marking one of the most successful fundraising events in the Foundation's 25-year history.
Held in celebration of the Kentucky Derby, the event brought together community members, supporters,
and sponsors for an afternoon centered on impact, storytelling, and giving back to children in foster
care across Yavapai County. The program featured powerful, firsthand stories that moved the room,
including perspectives from a former foster youth and foster parents. Their experiences served as a
reminder of both the challenges children face and the life-changing difference a supportive community can
make. This event is a reflection of what happens when a community comes together with a shared purpose,
said Mona Stevens, development director of the Foundation. The $52,514 raised is more than a number as it
represents real support, real opportunities, and real moments of stability for children who need it
most. Every dollar raised helps change the direction of a child's life. The evening also included
a special recognition of Barbara Polk, who was honored with the Foundation's Champions for Children
Legacy Award. The award was accepted by her grandson, Stephen Polk, who shared heartfelt remarks
honoring her enduring legacy and the lasting impact of her commitment to serving children.
Guests experienced a derby-inspired celebration that included live music, a best-dressed contest,
a silent auction, interactive games, a wine pull, and a high-energy place your bets raffle
tied to the Kentucky Derby. The event was made possible in part by the support of Valor Contracting,
the Foundation's top sponsor. With record attendance, strong
community engagement, and a meaningful fundraising outcome, the evening stood as both a celebration
of 25 years of service and a powerful reminder of the continued need to support children in foster
care. To learn more about the Yavapai Casa for Kids Foundation, visit YC4KF.org or email info
