Hey, everybody, and welcome back for another deep dive with us.
All right.
So today, we're going to be looking at Yavapai College.
And specifically, there are into BSN nursing program.
Yeah.
And we came across this really interesting article on signalsaz.com.
Okay.
About this program.
And specifically, the college's pursuit of getting it accredited.
Yeah.
And I was really excited to talk with you about this one because I know.
You're really passionate about nursing education.
I am.
So I think that's going to be right up your alley.
For sure.
So yeah, the article kind of kicks off with this big announcement from Yavapai College
they're expecting a site visit from.
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, otherwise known as ACN, for their RN to BSN program.
But my question is, what does that, like, actually mean for suppiring nurses?
Well, so initial accreditation from ACN is essentially a stamp of approval.
You know, it verifies that the program meets rigorous national standards, you know, for nursing education.
And it's a pretty expensive review process.
They're really looking at everything from curriculum and faculty qualifications to, you know, student support services and the available resources.
You're not just like checking boxes. This actually impacts the quality of the education.
Absolutely. Yeah. And for students, you know, that translates to a more valuable degree. Studies have shown that hospitals are really increasingly seeking out BSN prepared nurses. And many even offer higher starting salaries for nurses with a bachelor's degree.
Okay.
And, you know, in addition to that, this accreditation could actually make it easier for a student to pursue further education down the line, like a master's degree or something like that?
Makes sense.
If they were interested.
Okay.
So this is huge.
It is.
This accreditation is really a game changer for these students and really the nursing field in that area.
Yeah.
So something really interesting I found in the article here, and it's that the public can actually give feedback to ACN about the program.
And there's actually a deadline. It's February 25, 2025. And you can email them at public.comments at ace nursing.org. Or you can mail your thoughts to their office in Atlanta. Okay. Cool. So why that's so important? Well, I really love that they do this because this public comment period is so vital. You know, it gives everybody a chance to really weigh in on the program and make sure that the evaluation process considers all these diverse perspectives. It's not just, you know, academics and their ivory tower making these decisions. Right.
It's students, it's nurses, working in the field.
Yeah.
Even patients, their voices can be heard.
Yeah, that's great.
So the article also goes into some detail about Yavapai College itself, mentions that they have six campuses and centers throughout Yavapai County.
And they offer over 100 degrees and certificates.
Okay.
But there's one little detail here that really stood out to me, and it's that.
This RN to BSN program is only their second bachelor's degree offering.
Oh, wow.
So what does that tell us?
about their dedication to this program.
Well, I think it really highlights the significance of this program,
you know, not just for the college itself,
but also for the community.
They're clearly responding to a growing demand
for highly educated nurses in the region, you know,
and it's not common for all community colleges
to offer four-year degrees.
So this is a pretty big step for Yavapai.
That's a really good point.
So speaking of making education more accessible,
the article also talks about this thing called the Quest Grant.
And it's a grant that actually covers tuition for a specific set of programs at Yavapai College.
And it's funded by the RADC.
Oh, very cool.
Which is pretty awesome.
So why are these programs so important?
Well, programs like the Quest Grant are essential, especially in fields like health care.
You know, we're facing these critical shortages of qualified professionals.
So it's a really smart investment.
Absolutely.
You know, it removes those financial barriers that might prevent people.
from pursuing a nursing career.
Yeah, it opens doors for people who wouldn't have otherwise had that opportunity.
Right.
Okay, so to kind of sum up everything, it really seems like Yavapai College, seeking this accreditation for their RN to BSN program is a really positive step.
Yeah, I would agree.
You know, it's a win-win, not just for the aspiring nurses, but the entire healthcare community as a whole.
Totally.
But here's something I think is worth consistent.
As this demand for BSN-prepared nurses keeps rising, how is that going to reshape the nursing profession as a whole?
Oh, that's a good question.
You know, what kind of impact will it have on the quality of patient care, on job roles and their responsibilities, and even on the relationships between nurses and other healthcare professionals.
It's something to really think about, especially if you're considering a career in nursing.
That's a great point, something to think about for sure.
All right, that's all the time we have for today.
But as always, thank you so much for joining us.
Thank you for having me.
For another deep dive.
It was a pleasure.
We'll see you next time.
