All right, everyone, get ready.
We're diving headfirst into all the cool stuff happening in January,
thanks to the Yavapai County District 2 January Happenings newsletter.
Oh, this is a great one.
It's like having a VIP pass to all the fun things happening around here.
Exactly.
It's packed with ideas.
If you're looking for something fun to do this month or even discover something new,
maybe a hidden gem or two, you're in the right spot.
This newsletter is like a guide to everything awesome happening.
From art and music to historical tours.
Even a chili cookoff.
Oh, yeah.
And it's all over the district, too.
Beaver Creek, Black Canyon City, Camp Verde.
It's amazing how spread out everything is.
It really shows how diverse this district is.
It does.
So many different communities and interests.
Definitely.
Okay.
So let's start with Beaver Creek.
Okay.
The Beaver Creek Public Library is a great place for bookworms.
They have poetry readings on the second Saturday of each month.
Sounds peaceful.
And book club discussions on the third Friday.
Oh, I love a good book club.
Me too.
It's so fun.
to get together and talk about books with other people.
And sometimes you find your next favorite read that way.
That's true.
Okay, so now we're going to Black Canyon City on January 12th.
All right.
What's happening there?
There's a chili cookoff at the VFW Post.
Oh, I love a good chili cookoff.
Me too.
And later that week, on the 18th, there's a Highwayman cover band concert at Chalines on 17.
Wait, hold on.
A chili cookoff, A&D, a Highwayman concert in the same week.
Same place even. At least the chili cookoff part.
Wow, that's a cool combo.
I know, right?
You know what's interesting.
What's that?
The connection between their music and the history of this region.
Tell me more about that.
Well, their songs often tell stories about, you know, rugged individualism, resilience,
connection to the land themes that really resonate with the Southwest.
You're right.
I hadn't thought about it like that.
All right, next up, we're going to Camp Verde.
Okay.
Every Wednesday, the Camp Verde Community Library hosts a Tai Chi class.
Oh, that's nice.
Yeah, it sounds really relaxing.
It is.
It's great for all ages, too, and all fitness levels.
I've always been curious about Tai Chi.
Yeah.
What exactly is it?
Some kind of martial art.
Kind of, yeah.
It's from ancient China, and it's all about these slow flowing movements.
Interesting.
It's been practiced for centuries, for its health benefits, reduces stress, improves sleep.
Huh.
Maybe I should try it out.
You should.
Okay, now we're going to talk about some things that are near and dear to my heart.
Oh, what's that?
Anything involving kids, andy dogs.
Ah, I love it.
So in Chino Valley, the Chino Valley Public Library has a Lego club every Tuesday.
Legos.
Nice.
I know, right?
Legos are classic for a reason.
They really spark imagination and problem solving.
And honestly, I think everyone loves building with Legos.
Oh, for sure.
And speaking of heartwarming activities, the same library also has a read-to-a-therapy dog program.
Oh, no way.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays.
That's so sweet.
I know.
It helps the kids improve their reading skills, and it's just, like, so adorable.
Those therapy dogs are such good listeners, the best.
All right, let's switch gears a bit and talk about some art.
On January 11th, you can head over to the Tawaki Inn in Clarkdale.
You can meet Hopi artist, filmmaker, Kewan Yama, and see his incredible artwork.
His work is amazing.
I've seen some of it online.
The colors, the details, the connection to Hopi culture.
It's all so impressive.
It really is.
Okay, now we're going to Cords Lakes for some fun Fridays at the Cords Public Library.
Fun Friday!
It's a thing.
It runs all day, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
And they have games, creative activities, even movies.
Wow, a whole day of fun.
Sounds perfect.
I know, right.
Okay, music lovers.
This one's for you.
Hit me.
On January 18th, the international touring duo Acoustic Idleon will be performing at the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood.
Ooh, I've heard of them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They have this really captivating sound.
I know.
I'm really looking forward to this concert.
What kind of music do they play?
They blend Celtic, folk, and world music.
Wow.
That's cool.
I know, right?
It's so cool how this newsletter brings in both local and international talent.
It speaks to the thriving arts and culture scene we have here.
It really does.
Okay, let's move on to Dewey Humboldt for a couple of fun events.
Made the way.
For the younger crowd, there's the Creative Minds Club at the Dewey Humboldtown Library every Wednesday.
Sounds fun. It is. Crafts, games, all sorts of activities. It's great.
And later that week, on January 11th, local musician Christy Fisher will be performing at Quailwood Greens.
Nice. Love some live music.
Me too. And I always try to support local artists whenever I can.
It's so important.
It is. Okay. For those of you who love to get crafty, the mayor public library hosts Soen Craft Tuesdays.
Hmm. Sounds relaxing.
I know, right? It's a great way to learn new skills, pick up a new hobby, and socialize with
other people who love to craft. I like it.
Okay, parents and families in Prescott,
listen up. Okay.
The Prescott Public Library is hosting a winter reading challenge for K-12 kids.
Oh, that's fun.
It runs all month long.
So throughout January.
Yep.
A fun way to keep those young minds engaged.
For sure.
And on January 30th, award-winning children's author, Dusty Bowling,
will be visiting the Prescott Public Library.
That's awesome.
Kids can meet the author, hear her stories, maybe even get a signed book.
I bet they love that.
Okay.
Now we're going to switch gears again, this time for all you history buffs and antique lovers.
Okay, I'm listening.
The Cowboy Collector's Antique Show is coming to the Finley Toyota Center in Prescott Valley on January 22nd.
Oh, I love antique shows.
Me too.
You can browse, buy, sell, or trade Old West and Native American antiques.
I can just imagine all the stories those antiques could tell.
I know, right.
Okay, let's talk about Sedona for a minute.
That's good.
They're all about community involvement in nature this January.
From January 16th to 20th, you can participate in the weekend of service.
What's that?
You can help out with various projects around town.
Oh, that's nice.
I know.
And for all you plant lovers out there?
Like me.
The Sedona Public Library is hosting a Plant RX workshop on January 22nd.
Plant RX. What's that?
You can learn how to diagnose and rescue your ailing plants.
Sign me up.
Uh-huh.
Okay.
Bookworms in Spring Valley.
This one's for you.
Go on.
On January 24th, the Spring Valley Public Library is hosting a discussion on the warmth of other suns.
Hmm. I have heard of that book.
It's about America's Great Migration.
Right. Millions of African Americans migrating from the south to the north, Midwest, and West.
It's a really powerful and moving book.
It is. It gives you such a personal perspective on this major historical event.
Okay. Last but not least, we're going to Wickenberg for the Vulture City Civil War Days.
Civil War Days.
It's on January 11th and 12th.
Cool.
You can witness history come to life with reenactments, costumes, and demonstrations.
I love historical reenactment.
You're so immersive.
You really feel like you're stepping back in time.
Exactly.
Wow, we've covered a lot of ground already and we're just getting started.
I know, right?
There is so much happening this month.
It's amazing.
And we've only scratched the surface.
There's a ton more to explore in the full newsletter.
Yes.
And you can find the email address to request the full newsletter right in the article we're covering today.
Great. I'm going to go request that right now.

Native bees.
Cool.
We don't talk about those enough.

We always hear about honeybees.
but forget about all the other important pollinators out there.
Right, exactly.
This presentation is a good reminder of how vital they are to our ecosystem.
It is.
And, you know, with all the threats facing bee populations these days,
it's important to learn about conservation.
I agree.
And how we can all help protect them.
