The Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management, Yokoam, is proud to join communities across the country
in observing April as National Volunteer Month. This annual recognition is an opportunity to celebrate
the extraordinary individuals who give their time, skills, and dedication to strengthen emergency
preparedness and protect the residents of Yavapai County. Volunteers are the backbone of
emergency management in communities large and small. In Yavapai County, a region spanning diverse
terrain from high mountain ponderosa pine forests to rugged desert valleys, no emergency response effort
would be complete without the commitment of trained community volunteers. From amateur radio
operators and medical professionals to large animal responders and disaster relief organizations,
these individuals step forward when their neighbors need them most. Ekoam is supported by a network
of dedicated volunteer programs and community partner organizations that play a direct role in
protecting lives and property throughout the county.
Amateur Radio Emergency Service. Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service, Ares slash Races.
Licensed Amateur Radio operators provide critical backup communications when traditional infrastructure
fails, serving as an essential link between emergency managers, field crews, and the public.
Large animal shelter and emergency readiness, laser. Laser volunteers specialize in the care
and sheltering of large animals during disasters, a critical capability in a county where
livestock and horses are a significant part of the community.
Medical Reserve Corps, MRC. MRC volunteers are medical and public health professionals
who support emergency response efforts during disasters, disease outbreaks, and other public
health emergencies, supplementing local health care capacity when it is needed most.
Community organizations active in disaster, COAD, partners.
ECHOEM works alongside a broad coalition of code partner organizations, including the American Red Cross, ARC, and Emergency Equine Evacuation, EEE, whose volunteers provide shelter, disaster relief, and specialized response support to residents and animals across the county.
National Volunteer Month is the perfect time for Yavapai County residents to consider how they can contribute to their community's safety and resilience. No prior experience is necessary, training is provided for all volunteer roles.
ECOAM encourages anyone interested in serving to reach out and explore the many opportunities available.
