The Yavapai softball team came out strong this weekend during their home opener, where they were able to sweep central Arizona and win all four of their contests. Game one. In this close opening game, Yavapai defeated their Akik rival 3 to 2 with a walk-off double from Avery Rhodes at the bottom of the seventh inning. Besides Rhodes double, Danica Kern and Tamron Tucker were each able to tally an RBI as well. Pitchers Daisy Smith and Sophie Wagner-Styles each had three strikeouts, with the latter doing that in just two innings. Sophia Romero's four fielding assists helped keep the rough riders in the game, as they went on to win three to two in game one. Game two. Early season dominance is always a huge factor in momentum, and the rough riders were able to keep their momentum high with this 18 to 10 win over the Vakwara's. YC led 9 to 0 in the first inning, and after Central rallied back, Yavapai was able to bring the score up to 18 by the end.
Starting point is 00:01:01 of the fifth inning. Kelly Gibb had an excellent five-RBI game, totaling three hits and three runs for herself. Georgia Wagner-Styles had three RBIs as well, including a double. Kern and Rhodes each had stolen bases in this game. Olivia Derazzo's two Ks on the mound were crucial for the Rough Riders, while Daisy Smith and Ryder Wilmarth would refuse to allow more than a single hit each. Game three. On day two of the doubleheader versus Central Oz, Yavapai started strong once more and crushed the Vakwheres in an 8-0 shutout victory. Nearly every Rough Rider had an RBI in this game,
Starting point is 00:01:37 and half the team had two hits in this match, including Mindy Ward, who had the only YC extra base hit of this game. The pitching trio of Daisy Smith, Ryder Wilmarth, and Sophie Wagner-Styles only allowed three hits total, and Wilmarth was kind enough to gift the opponent's 3Ks. Lucia Jessin's five put-outs were able to stop CAC out and lead Yavapai to their third win of the weekend.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Game 4 The final game of the series was no different than the previous game, as YC handled their business with a 10-2-2 win, securing the sweep over the vacuarez. Danny Kearn's 3 RBI's and Tamron Tucker's two doubles were the game changer in this event, as Yavapai steamrolled their competition to yet another victory. Georgia Wagner-Styles also had a triple in this game, the first of the weekend. Gibbs' four fielding assists were good enough to leave the opponent stranded at just two runs in this game, and Yavapai would go on to win their first four-kick conference games. Yavapai softball is now 9 to 10 on the season, and are undefeated at home and in-conference play. Up next. Next weekend, Yavapai will host another four-game series. This time, it will be against a kick rival Eastern Arizona.
