Episode Date: November 11, 2024

Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello there and welcome to my podcast Simple Swedish. I talked about this natural disaster that has happened here. I was actually there on Tuesday. Me and a few friends cycled there. First we were at a place where we picked up some necessities like food, hygiene items and stuff like that. Our plan was to cycle in and try to get as far as possible and deliver these products and hope that it helps in some way. So we cycled there and we ended up... In the beginning, there was quite a lot that was already cleaned. It still looks completely crazy, but the further you get, the more scruff it is on the streets and the more scruff it is on the streets and the less
Starting point is 00:01:37 cleaned and the less fixed and so on. That was actually a pretty surrealistic experience. But we came to a place where we talked to some people and they told us where we could leave our stuff. It was in a church actually they had a gathering place. There they asked if we could go to another place and pick up things from there and come back. So we did that too. We also cycled back because there were new warnings about new rain. I have been there and seen it and it is quite surreal and quite horrible. But at the same time you can see how much people are coming to help. So it's very cool to see. The local authorities have been so badly failed to organize this help.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Anyway, that was not what we were going to talk about in this episode. Because I already talked about that in the last episode In this episode I was going to talk about that Donald Trump has won the election in the US and I was going to talk about why he has won and what we can expect to happen in the future. How will this affect the world in particular. First I want to thank some Patrons. Sergio, Toan, Tanya, Aaron, Piroz, Adi, Oleg, Maximilian, Ed, Peter, Alexandra and Anthony. Thank you for supporting this podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:15 I also want to recommend going to our free community and it's on school.com slash Swedish school with S-K S-K-O-O-L.com slash Swedish and there are free lessons, free resources, courses and there is a community of people who learn Swedish I just posted a video about studying with chatgpt So go to school.com slash Swedish and check it out Ok, so Trump has won the election in the US and Kamala Harris has lost.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And I have not followed this election so closely. But I have watched some videos from some different channels that I think are good And I was going to tell you what people seem to say about why Trump has won Why Trump has won. Okay, so. This is maybe not my own... I'm not talking about my own opinions here. I'm trying to be objective and I'm trying to talk about what seems to be the reasons according to the information I have seen
Starting point is 00:06:08 and I am no expert, absolutely not but why has Trump won? ok, so first and foremost, not only has Trump won but Kamala Harris has lost so maybe it has a lot to do with that their campaign has failed. Kamala Harris' campaign has failed. And why has she failed? Well, first of all, people don't really know what her proposal is, what she wants.
Starting point is 00:06:49 The campaign has been mostly that we have to stop Trump, Trump can't win. And that she is a woman, she is black, she is middle class. So these have been the most important points in her campaign. But with Trump, you know exactly what Trump wants. He wants to put USA first, he wants lower taxes, he wants to close the borders. So he doesn't want immigrants, he wants lower taxes and he wants to protect the US, put the US first. But what does Harris want? People don't really know that, it's not that clear.
Starting point is 00:07:46 And also, she wasn't actually elected. She wasn't elected when the Democrats had their primaries, I don't know what they're called in Swedish. And she's pretty unknown as well, in relation to Trump. So that is a big reason. Another thing is that there has been a cultural war. There is this woke movement. the woke movement. And it has a lot to do with that people, many people are tired of
Starting point is 00:08:30 discussing the pronouns, which pronouns to refer to people, people are tired of that people feel that they are called racists just because they are white, or that they are called sexists just because they are men. And things like that. So many people feel that way. And this is what we call called woke movement. Which the democrats have invested a lot in.
Starting point is 00:09:13 And it represents, the democrats represent a lot of that movement. But that movement does not represent a majority of the US population. So that is also a big reason, it seems. And then the general public, the general public, people in general, the people in general, the public. They no longer have trust in the institutions. They don't trust the institutions that they function objectively, that they work justly. Because Trump has a lot of reports on him. He has problems, he has been in court, he has been reported for various crimes and so on. But people don't believe that
Starting point is 00:10:26 this is the legal system that is trying to to to especially these traditional media especially these traditional media people don't believe that these media are objective. And this is actually true, the media are be objective. They either have bad information or even lie about things. Instead of telling the truth no matter what the truth is, the goal has been to tell the truth, no matter what the truth is.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Instead, the goal has been, okay, we have to stop Trump, okay? So then you lose trust, you lose trust in the media and these institutions, the justice system. This is actually very dangerous, that the general public loses trust in institutions, trust in media and so on. And this is also a Sweden as well. That traditional media instead of being objective and just focus on the truth, present the truth, find the truth, have been political and had an agenda to stop certain political forces. And even if you may not like these political forces,
Starting point is 00:12:37 it is still important that the media does not have an agenda against specific political forces. Because then you lose the trust of these media. Then you lose the trust, you don't trust them anymore. And that is very dangerous for democracy. And this has happened a lot in the US as well. So these reasons seem to be important reasons for Trump to have won. And that he has also won purely by percentage. Because in the US this works a little differently. It is not really the people's vote that is counted, without the people voting on the electoral system.
Starting point is 00:13:48 So it's not the people who choose the president, but the people who vote for the people who in turn choose the president. And sometimes it means that a candidate can win win even if the other candidate has seen more votes but that's not how it happened this time Trump got 70 million votes and Kamala Harris got 65 million votes Trump got 5 million more votes than Kamala Harris, just percentage. Does that mean that 70 million Americans are white, hateful, racist men? Probably not. There were actually many women who also voted for Trump.
Starting point is 00:14:48 I see that about half of them voted for Kamala Harris. 54% voted for Harris. So that means that about 40% voted for Trump. So even if, especially here in Europe, I think that most people think of Trump as being a fool. Even if you don't like Trump, it's clear that everyone who votes for Trump is not idiots. Even though many are sure of it. I am not going to judge right now anyway. And what happens then in the world? What happens in the world? And is it as dangerous as you might think? Because I think many people think that if Trump becomes president,
Starting point is 00:15:57 then it's going to be... To hell! Then it's going to be bad. But... Okay, I can absolutely I can absolutely think that his rhetoric, the way he speaks is 100% dictator style. But, ok, if we look at what actually happened when he was president, it was actually 4 years, was it so bad, was it so horrible? Ok, I don't know, I'm not an expert, I don't know everything that happened. But you can see that for example, no war started in the world.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Okay, he wanted to end many international agreements, international agreements and so on. He ended the Iran agreement for example. But no war started. He helped with normalization between Israel and Arab countries. He got... I don't know, he and he... That administration... For example between the United Arab Emirates and Israel. Between Bahrain and Israel. between Sudan and Morocco and Israel and it was on the way to be normalized between Saudi Arabia and Israel He has been very clear that he does not want to have conflicts. He does not want the US to I think many people in the world don't like the role of the world police as much as the US has. Unprovised. Which most people are against.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Most people didn't think it was good. And it's pretty obvious that it was very bad for the world and especially for Iraq. Okay, Saddam Hussein was removed, but what created that? It created a lot of chaos. And things like that, maybe Trump wouldn't do. So I can imagine that it doesn't have to be only negative. One thing that worries many is what will happen in Ukraine. Trump has said that if he is president, the war would end within 24 hours. Ok, he has said that. We don't know exactly what.
Starting point is 00:19:55 But it doesn't sound good for Ukraine. So there you can absolutely be worried about that, including myself. But we don't know exactly what will happen. There are things that don't sound so bad. There are things that sound bad. There are things that don't sound so bad, for example to minimize US involvement in conflicts. It's hard to say how positive or negative it will be, but it absolutely doesn't have to be negative. It can actually be quite positive. But we'll see.
Starting point is 00:20:46 I hope that everyone knows that the person Trump, we all have our own opinion about the person Trump, but then what is actually going to happen in practice. We hope it will be positive. It will probably not only be positive, but it will probably not only be negative. We'll see. That was what I was going to talk about today. I hope that was interesting.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Have a good one, and I'll see you soon.
