Dokumentären A life on our planet Dokumentären Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet Lyssna också på avsnitt 56 av Simple Swedish Podcast Klicka här för att komma till vår gratis community på Skool.

Hello there! Welcome to Simple Swedish Podcast!
First and foremost, sorry that there was no episode last week.
I, he, not really, because I have a lot to do and also we have been moving
so I live in a new apartment now and it takes a lot of time to move and change apartment So yeah, and I've had very little time this week as well, so I'm now on a Saturday
and record this
Yes, and what are we going to talk about today? We're going to talk about how we save the world, okay?
Yes, how do we save the world? Not so much how we save the planet
because the planet will survive
the nature will survive
but we humans
we maybe have to think about
how we are going to survive
so that's what we're going to talk about today
what needs to be done in a practical way
and also in a psychological way
how can you, yourself and other people
actually do something
first I'm going thank the new Patrons It's Sojata, Jeon, Amin, Dorsa, Xiao Zhao, Candace, Sallie, Gary, Erdem, Maiten, Tanue, Kate, Anthony, Sherpa and Amy
Thank you so much for supporting this podcast
Without Patrons there will be no podcast. So it's very nice with support from Patrons.

And in this episode there are some words that are good to know
one is holdable
holdable, that something is holdable
means that it holds, simply
for a long time
yes, so we talk about a holdable structure
for example, a bridge can be holdable which means that it lasts a long time.
We are talking about biological diversity. There are many different species, many different species of animals and plants and so on.
There are many different, that is, there are many different varieties.
We are talking about the wildlands.
Wildlands are like wild areas in nature that are not, where people do't live or work in, it's nature.
Without people being there and doing things.
So it's wilderness.
We're talking about coal and carbon dioxide So coal is a substance
which is often black
But it also exists as a diamond
which is actually coal in crystal form
And carbon dioxide is the gas
that you get when you burn things or when you breathe out.
Coal, carbon dioxide.
We also talk about fuel.
For example, petrol, diesel, coal is about renewable fuel.
Fuel that can be renewed.
For example, ethanol.
No, is that considered renewable?
Yes, you can make ethanol, so it is renewable.
But we often talk about wind, sun, water.
That they are renewable energy sources.
So an energy source. A source for energy.
Something you can take energy from. A source for energy.
And fuel is for example coal, oil, petrol and diesel.
So we also want renewable fuel.
Yes.
And I was inspired by this episode after I saw the documentary A Life on Our Planet with David Attenborough. I have done an episode about it before, so I will not go into that much detail about that documentary
because I have already done an episode about it.
It is episode 56 so go and listen to episode 56
where I talk more specifically about that documentary
which is a documentary that I really really think everyone must see
actually
actually, honestly. There is also another documentary called Breaking Boundaries, The Science of Our Planet
Which I also think that everyone really needs to see.
Because it is very important information not only information
but also what we need to do
and what we can do
and that's what I want to talk about now
but also, psychologically
what motivates people
to actually do something.
Because that is actually very important too.
Because we know that there are big problems.
We know that we need to do something.
We, people, humanity, it's so abstract
So that it's often so...
It's hard to actually do something
So what do humans need to actually do something?
That is at least as important as the information itself
Because everyone has a lot of information, but just information doesn't do much
That's just the first step
So first and foremost, what is actually happening?
Well, briefly, one, we have global warming, that is if the planet gets 1,5 degrees warmer on average, that is, medium temperature, point and then if we pass that point you can not go back to what it was before
because right now or actually the last thousand years the planet has been in a certain...
They call it the Holocene.
We have had very stable weather.
And now we are entering a new era.
With less stable weather because of these changes in the planet's temperature
and the warmer it gets, the worse the effects will be
and that already happens And that is already happening. So you can see very clearly that the ice in the Arctic and Antarctic pools melts a lot.
There is less and less ice.
And that is a big problem because when the ice melts, the ice becomes smaller and less light is reflected out in the space.
So the smaller the ice we have, the less light is reflected out and therefore the heating is faster
So the heating makes the ice melt and the melting of the ice also makes the heating faster And there are many different problems. For example, there are different streams in the sea.
For example, the Gulf have a pretty hot climate
Thanks to the Gulf Stream
So hot, relatively hot
But if the planet gets warmer and more ice melts and so on
Then this Gulf Stream can be broken
So it can stop working and then Northern Europe will be much colder the climate changes due to the warming. The second important point is that we get less diversity in the nature.
So, since the climate changes are not as important as the climate change, is that we get less diversity in nature.
So, since there are many animal species,
plant species and so on that disappear,
that no longer exist,
so we get fewer and less species in nature.
A species is like a species, or a species of plant, a type of plant, a type of animal, a species, okay?
And when we get less species, smaller species, we get less diversity in nature.
And that is a big problem for many, many things.
One of the biggest problems.
An example is that, for example, bees that pollinate flowers, if they disappear, then
it will be a big problem for us too.
And that is just one example.
So diversity in nature is extremely important for us, for us humans.
And that is something that is threatened.
And the third point is simply wilderness.
That there is a lot of soil, a lot of nature.
Because right now, a lot of nature disappears.
Wild soil, soil that is untouched by man.
Soil, land surface, where we humans don't live, where we don't have crops, where we don't work, so to speak.
So it's important for nature that there is land surface, that there is a lot of wilderness So those three points
The warming of the planet
The diversity in nature
And the surface
Which is wilderness
Those three points
Are very critical right now
And if we don't solve that
Then it won't look that bright to humanity.
We're talking about humanity because the planet will of course survive.
The planet will of course survive humanity, but we're talking about that we want to survive.
And that's why we need a well functioning planet.
So what do we actually need to stop the growth of the population.
We can't have a growing population on Earth.
We need to stop becoming more people. And what is very interesting is that the most effective way to become fewer people is
that we get higher education and higher standard of living for all people in the world.
Especially for girls and women.
In many places in the world, women get many children and the most important factor for
that it should be fewer children
is
education for women
so that
education in general
but especially
for girls and women
and generally
standard of living
so the higher the standard of standards. The higher the living standards and higher
education, the less growth in the population. So if we can make sure that we get high
living standards and higher education in all countries in the world,
we simply solve that problem.
And in many countries, the population actually becomes smaller.
Often we hear that it is a problem
that the population becomes smaller.
And I think every time,
I mean, what the hell, it's great that we're getting fewer people,
because we're already too many people.
So we have to find a way to work as a society with a decreasing population, to become fewer people, that's good.
It must be positive to become fewer people when it's so hard to manage.
The resources for all people are not enough.
So, education, high standard for all in the world,
that is the most important factor for not getting more people.
to not get more people
Okay, so Here I need to
stop
this episode because it got very long
So I will take this episode in two parts
Next part you will get
next week
So thanks for listening, see you next week
Bye bye
