Hello, hello! Welcome to Simple Swedish Podcast.
Today we will talk about some words in Swedish that are very similar and that are often a little bit difficult for people
and that is the word klar, to be ready with something
to make something ready, that something is ready
to manage something, to manage, okay, many different meanings and it can be a bit tricky to understand.
So that's why I make an episode about it to find out this, so find out, that you,
You have to figure out what is what and after that everything will be clear and clear. Yes, so we're going to divide it up a little bit.
We start with the adjective klar
Okay?
So the adjective klar
can of course mean
something like
clear or obvious
So, for example, what I said
clear and clear.
So, for example, I hear you clear and clear.
It means that I hear you well.
It's not like, no noise, no problem.
It's that I hear you clearly. You could say that we got clear messages.
It means that we got clear messages.
There were no weirdos, it was not unclear, it was not difficult to understand.
It was not difficult to understand, but it was clear.
And we have words and expressions that are, for example, self-confident, or of course, or it's clear.
Of course, it's clear. In English it means of course.
It's clear that it's like that.
Of course.
Of course you can come here and say hello to me.
It's clear that it's okay.
So, yeah, just come, come. It's clear that you can come here.
So, those expressions exist and it has to do with that it's like, obvious.
It's obvious, obvious. Like, it's of course. Of course.
But it can be a little wrong.
Because if I say, you speak clearly,
then maybe you think that it means the same thing as you speak clearly.
So that it's easy to understand you because you speak clearly.
But don't say you speak clearly, okay?
Because you speak clearly, that doesn't mean the same as you speak clearly, no.
That means that you speak finished, okay?
Because, finished also means finished, okay?
And that's the same thing as done in English.
And it's the same thing as done in English
So if I have finished speaking
It means that I have finished speaking
So that I have said everything I wanted to say
And I have nothing more to say So I just stop speaking
I have finished talking. So in this case it is better to use clearly. If you want to say to speak clearly,, to speak clearly
because it's important
to be clear when you speak
and the word clear
is a clearer word to use
in this case
but
there are other cases where you have to use it clearly.
For example, if we can talk about clear water.
That it is not cloudy, that you can see right through the water.
That the water bit strange.
Or a clear sky. A sky without clouds. We can't say a clear sky but we say a clear sky
But if we use different verbs
like to talk
Okay?
Then I have to say
to speak clearly, okay?
Speak clearly
articulate
and speak loudly and clearly, okay?
So use the word clearly, okay?
Because otherwise it's not clear what you want to say, okay?
So... So.
So as I said, done also means finished. And this is something that seems to be a bit difficult for people to use in the right way. English, okay, I finished reading the book.
Then people often say, okay, I have stopped reading the book or I have finished reading the book or I stop reading the book, something like that.
But that's wrong, okay?
If I want to say something in English, then I use the word klar.
So for example, I have finished speaking.
Or, I have finished reading the book. or, jag har läst klart boken. Det betyder att det finns inget mer att läsa i den boken, jag har läst klart boken.
Eller, jag har tittat klart på en serie.
Så det betyder att det finns inget mer att se på den serien. It means that there is nothing more to see in that series.
I have looked at it clearly.
Or I have trained it clearly for today.
It means that I have done all the different training moments that I would do
So I am done with the training
I am done with the training. I have trained done for today
So that's something that
that you
who are watching and listening So try to use this more.
If you want to say that you have done everything you should do, then you are done.
You can also use the word done.
I have read the book.
I have trained for today. I have trained used the word FÄRDIG. I have read the book FÄRDIG. I have trained FÄRDIG for today.
I have trained KLART for today.
I have read the book KLART.
Okay?
I am KLAR now.
I am KLAR.
Okay?
That's how we use the word KLAR.
You can say, I am KLAR with my studies.
I have finished this program. is It's clear. It means that you just, okay, you just let go of it and stop.
It doesn't mean that it's clear.
So, if I say, I have stopped reading the book.
It doesn't mean that I have read the whole book. att jag har läst hela boken. Nej, jag har slutat läsa boken. Det betyder bara att jag läste och sen
slutade jag läsa. Jag kan sluta läsa efter en sida eller efter hundra sidor, det spelar ingen roll.
Det är liksom, okej, jag slutade läsa helt enkelt. Ja, att läsa klart boken betyder att
to read, yes. To read. To end means that you
stop for this.
And, okay,
so I choose to end this
now. For example,
we have a meeting,
okay, and I have a meeting, ok? And...
Ok, we have talked for an hour.
Ok, good.
Now I choose to end the meeting.
I can say for example that...
Ok, I have talked for a long time at the meeting now, and, well, now we're done.
Now we've said everything we were going to say, so we're done with the meeting. Okay, good.
Then I'll end the meeting. So, this is different concepts.
We might be done, or we are not done, but I can still end the meeting.
We might not be done with everything, but I want to end it anyway.
Because I want to go home.
Okay, no, now we're done here. We're
finishing the meeting. And then we go home, even if we may not be completely done yet. So, yes, that's how it works. You also use to close a computer program.
That means that you simply close it, you close down the program. Or you end a conversation. You say, ok, now I feel like I want to end this conversation.
So, yes. And then we simply have to stop talking. And yes, so that's the adjective ready and how you use it together with being ready with something or
to make something ready. You can also be ready with something, for example, I am ready with my studies.
I am done with my studies. I was done with my studies last year.
I was done with my studies in June last year, for example.
So now I am done with them.
Good! So that was the first part of this.
Because now we're going to talk about the verb to manage.
And that's something completely different.
The best thing is to see it as something else, simply.
So now we've talked about the verb, or now we've talked about the adjective, now we're going to talk about the verb.
To manage. And to manage something, it means that you manage to do something That you take yourself through something that is maybe a little difficult
Or that you handle a difficult situation
That you manage to do it
In English you could say to succeed or to handle, manage.
So for example,
I passed the test.
So, I passed the test, which means that I got approved.
I managed to do it well.
Okay, that might have been a bit difficult, but
I did it. Okay, it went have been a bit difficult, but I did it.
It went well, basically.
I had enough knowledge, I had enough skills and so on.
Or, we managed the crisis together.
So we might have a crisis but we managed to get through it.
We managed to get through this crisis. We managed to get through it together.
Or, I can't run that far. I can't do that.
It means that it's too far for me.
I can't do that.
I can't run that far.
It's too hard for me.
I can't do that.
So not being able to do something
means that it's too hard.
Or, I can't work anymore. Work. svårt. Eller jag klarar inte längre att jobba två jobb. Ja, det är för svårt helt enkelt.
Så jag klarar inte det. Nej, det är för svårt. Så det är att klara. Och vi har ett partikelverb And we have a particle verb, to manage, to manage something.
And it's similar, but maybe a little more focused on the situation itself.
But it's a little hard to explain the difference, but they are similar.
To manage and to manage. However, we have the reflexive verb to manage.
And that is also something that people mix together a little bit. So to manage, Det betyder ungefär att överleva, eller att ta sig igenom någonting utan att skada sig så mycket, eller utan att skada sig, eller utan att skada sig så mycket, utan att göra sig illa så mycket. so much. So for example, the house burned down but the whole family survived. Okay,
that means they survived or they did not get hurt. They survived. They survived. Or, I don't know how I'm going to make it with so little money.
So it's so little money, how am I going to make it?
So how am I going to survive?
How am I going to survive that situation? How do I...
Yeah, how do I survive?
How do I survive?
Or just...
I want to survive myself.
That just means that
I don't want to be dependent on someone else.
I want to survive myself. And be able to live my own life
to be able to live my own life, to survive on my own hands, so that is to be able to survive
I know that it can be a bit confusing because these words are very similar but I hope that you understand a little. We have the adjective ready, which can mean clearly and but it can also mean
finished. So I am ready with it, it means I am finished with it. And to speak clearly means to speak finished.
Okay?
And if you want to say I'm finished with something,
say I'm done with it.
Okay?
Then we have the verb to manage something,
which is to succeed with it, you can do it.
And to manage yourself is to survive, often.
To survive or to manage without getting hurt.
Good! Then I'm done with this episode. I have said everything I wanted to say. So therefore I end the episode here.
And I hope you have learned a little more. See you next time. Bye!
