Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello there and welcome to Simple Swedish podcast. And today we're talking about jule and how we fire our jule in Sweden. So it will be part about different jule traditions and you will learn you little jule-related vocabular. So I have done an episode on the Yulen before and I'm going to name them these in
Starting point is 00:00:40 the episode, a little later, under the episode's gong. So first I should I tacka some new patrons. It is Tabata, Anneta, Parmiss Pei-21, and yeah, that was them.
Starting point is 00:00:54 Thank to you for that you stodger this podden. So, yeah, we will talk about Jule in Sweden, and Jules in Sweden is
Starting point is 00:01:08 a Christian high-tide, but it was not always an Christian-hectide. For we have long-fired
Starting point is 00:01:21 on-cring this datumet and it is for that it is the the murkest time on the year.
Starting point is 00:01:31 We have, I don't exactly which date it is, but around Jule so is it
Starting point is 00:01:37 the murkest day on the year and people have always have some form
Starting point is 00:01:44 of firand then. And I think he said some one gong,
Starting point is 00:01:53 the Christians bestemned that the 25th should be the datumet as Jesus fuddess,
Starting point is 00:02:04 but, actually, so, we don't when Jesus feldes. But, man,
Starting point is 00:02:10 you know, he was, the 25th, so, yeah, therefore we're jule the 25th.
Starting point is 00:02:18 So, but we can talk most about how we actually firer Jule and
Starting point is 00:02:25 what's what's what's what's about but actually is it actually
Starting point is 00:02:32 whole December I say that is Juletiter and we begin with First
Starting point is 00:02:41 Advent and what is first Advent yeah it is first sundgern
Starting point is 00:02:47 the whole this whole this this jule-firandet and in year was
Starting point is 00:02:57 first advent the 30th November and we have then other advent and then the last
Starting point is 00:03:06 fourth advent and in in Sweden is it very very very that you tender
Starting point is 00:03:14 a lus first advent and then tend you a new light, the other, and so...
Starting point is 00:03:22 You have a lus stake with four lus in. And, you know, the first light on first advent, then tending the
Starting point is 00:03:35 other light, other advent, and so wider, till it is the fourth advent. And, not another
Starting point is 00:03:42 that is that is to have advent's light stacar in fern. So if you are in
Starting point is 00:03:53 Sweden, in December, so come you to see very many light in the funsteren. So I think it is very, very
Starting point is 00:04:06 musit to be in Sweden in December, for it is very much but it is very musing stemning,
Starting point is 00:04:19 for it is Yulstemning What is Yulstemning? Jo Yulstemning is the kind of
Starting point is 00:04:26 that you know that it's so musit it is julepint over all Yulpint
Starting point is 00:04:36 is also juldecoration also all different things with Yulthema so you have Yulpint
Starting point is 00:04:46 over all you have Jus over You have jule music, so, yeah, it is so-clart very popular with music, jull-lottar. There are many Swedish julloters. I think that I linker to a spielister with Swedish juleoters,
Starting point is 00:05:10 so you can hit in the description of the off-snittet. Yeah, so December is very musy, I think, on ground of Yulstemning and we have Yulcalendendens that begins and Yulcalendon
Starting point is 00:05:29 is a series for barn but I can absolutely recommend you also to look at to them for it is
Starting point is 00:05:40 every day from 1st December to Yulafton so one ofsnit every day very day
Starting point is 00:05:49 very very short and in the year it tisciven
Starting point is 00:05:55 I looked at first offsnitt works quite quite so
Starting point is 00:06:01 call in julcalend on SVT Play and an another
Starting point is 00:06:08 thing that is a and bude on jule fika and then drink you
Starting point is 00:06:23 glugg and glug is a crudat vine that is warm and it is very in many European
Starting point is 00:06:34 lenders all lenders have their own version of glug and in in swverge
Starting point is 00:06:43 is it is it very that you have russin and and mandel in gluggen, so you like it in gluggen. And you have a little ficabrude,
Starting point is 00:06:56 which is typical for juletiders, and it is lussecat and peppercacacob. So, if you are in Sweden and will have a little more jule stemning, drink a little glug, and eat lussiccatter and pepper cacour. And people begin say good Jule to
Starting point is 00:07:22 one other so if you are in a boutique and you have been paid and you go so can
Starting point is 00:07:31 you say good Yule and yeah it will a trevly for people
Starting point is 00:07:37 start saying good good jule to one and so very very musit think I
Starting point is 00:07:44 and a Hucktide as I think much of is Lucia So Lucia is the 13th
Starting point is 00:07:56 December but under this time so is many different Lucia
Starting point is 00:08:07 firand So what is Lucia So Lucia we to a minute of
Starting point is 00:08:15 of a hellgon of a helgon of a helgon that's a lot of a full of it actually ofsnit number
Starting point is 00:08:23 115 so listen on on on 15 on Lucia and a
Starting point is 00:08:32 and a funerander is actually not a firande but it's a slack event
Starting point is 00:08:38 also to example is it is it It's very vanly in the church to have a Lucia tog and a Lucia concer
Starting point is 00:08:48 and it is very musit, so, you sit there in the church and it is murk, and it is toost, and you hear how a song starts, same
Starting point is 00:09:04 as a Lucia tog come in. And, lengthst Fram, goes Lucia, and she is white-clad and has a crown with levande-lust. Not so brand-sacert, but it is so, it must be. So, she bears on the hoodet, a crown with levande-luse, and back on her come a tog with other people, white-cladda,
Starting point is 00:09:41 who holds in the use, and they shunger songs that are typical for Lucia and for Jule. And they go
Starting point is 00:09:54 from to scene, or what you say, and then so they have them a concert with, uh, curesonger,
Starting point is 00:10:05 whole-enkel, which are typical for Jule and Lucia. And this, this is also that you're also that you're
Starting point is 00:10:13 on school so often have schools an own lucia concert or Lucia firand
Starting point is 00:10:24 and the and the parents come and look at their children who comes
Starting point is 00:10:30 in in a Lucia tog and then stood and singer different all different
Starting point is 00:10:33 julesonger and so very misit so I recommender that if you
Starting point is 00:10:39 live in Sweden go and look and a jul concert or Lucia concert
Starting point is 00:10:47 in the church. Very, very musy and fint. And then then
Starting point is 00:10:54 we so course Yulafton and Yulafton is the the
Starting point is 00:11:01 biggest datumet to fire in Sweden and it is the 24
Starting point is 00:11:08 December. So in Sweden, we not the 25th December, but we firer the 24th December, Juleafton. And what happened on Yuleafter? Yeah, it here is a family-hugtide. So I would say that it is the the biggest hucketiden for
Starting point is 00:11:35 family in Sweden. So, um, Oftenst, so, Samlas whole family on Yulefton and you're umgose, and I'm going to be
Starting point is 00:11:48 much meat, so-clart. So we have a so-called Yulbord. And Yulbordet is, yeah,
Starting point is 00:11:58 all mat we eater on Yulafton. The biggest is Yul-Sinkan. So Yul-Sinkan is a shinker that's cooked in special
Starting point is 00:12:11 curds so it has a very juley a mack can we say and we eat it often on a bit bread with a little senap
Starting point is 00:12:22 it's also important with Jansson's frestelse which is a sort of potatis grating with Anshovis
Starting point is 00:12:31 we have cutbullar Pinskorv inlagged sill vurtbrud many other things also
Starting point is 00:12:42 that are typical it's very very much sort of typical typical matrithers and typical mat on
Starting point is 00:12:51 on on on julbordet and we have often as jule oil and must
Starting point is 00:13:00 so-clard and julmust is a special lescredry that see out as Coca-Cola, but
Starting point is 00:13:08 who absolutely not don't not make from Coca-Cola but it is a
Starting point is 00:13:13 very specific smac. So, Prova Yulmust if you didn't have
Starting point is 00:13:20 done that. And something another that is important on on
Starting point is 00:13:26 is to look at Kale Anka. Kale Anka begins Klockan 15-0-5 so
Starting point is 00:13:35 set an alarm so that you not missar Kale Anka and this this is a TV program
Starting point is 00:13:44 that sends every Yulefton since I don't 70, 80 years so
Starting point is 00:13:54 it has been so very very long that you can't on Kale Anka on
Starting point is 00:14:02 so if you will be Swedish on Yuleafton, so must you look at Calianka, clockan 10.5. And then,
Starting point is 00:14:15 little later, so, so, come, so-clart, Tomten. Tomten, also, the red-clad-clad, shegggy, person who
Starting point is 00:14:26 always come on on Yule, and comes with Yul-clappar. And Yul-clappar, a Yul-clapp, it is the present that you are the presenten
Starting point is 00:14:37 that you give one and Tomten comes with juleclappar in his sack so he comes
Starting point is 00:14:49 knackar on the door and you open the door Tomten comes in and say ho ho ho
Starting point is 00:14:57 there there are there and if if there if there if there if there
Starting point is 00:15:04 so say Yeah And Tomten comes in Sette's It is It is It's trevly
Starting point is 00:15:13 To give Tomten Something to Drinka So yeah For Tomten He job Very
Starting point is 00:15:20 Very much On July So that It's It's trevly To give him Something
Starting point is 00:15:25 To drink A little Yule Orl Or an Yul Snaps So He'd
Starting point is 00:15:31 He'd He'd And can I can continue work hard. So Tomten I have
Starting point is 00:15:37 an offsnit on Tomten actually ofstit number 64. So listen
Starting point is 00:15:44 on that also for I tell you about Tomtens history very
Starting point is 00:15:50 interesting actually and I have a offsnit on Yulclappar also
Starting point is 00:15:57 ofs 164 so listen on that also if you will better more on jule clappar
Starting point is 00:16:07 Juleclappar also presents you give to one other on Juleafter Yeah and then
Starting point is 00:16:17 Dagen after Julefton it is Julldagen and in in Sweden so we not
Starting point is 00:16:27 Julldagan so much but we just take it Lunt. Eater, more, Yulmat, maybe helser
Starting point is 00:16:36 on some slecting or family medlem that didn't come on a very long day. And the day
Starting point is 00:16:47 after that is an day, Jules. And it is quite very vanly
Starting point is 00:16:55 to go out and festa maybe on yulegern or day, jule. Yeah, so after that, so
Starting point is 00:17:05 is the Jules over, more or or more. I thinked I would go through a little extra vocabular also
Starting point is 00:17:15 that's related to the yulen. So, an important detail is so-clart Yul-granen.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Yul-granen is the this tradet that we we buy and stella in
Starting point is 00:17:33 the wardasrumet so it is a tred and this this sortens tred
Starting point is 00:17:40 called for gran so it is therefore we say julgran if you have a
Starting point is 00:17:49 julgran and then so clair man granen that clair granen
Starting point is 00:17:55 that you can't that you can't that you pinted that that
Starting point is 00:17:59 You know, you hanger different, different julepint in gran. So, an julegran. And julepint is, jule decorations. And we say that
Starting point is 00:18:16 four jule, a jule-fir-firing, yeah, it is the festliness around jule. A jule-fir-fir-a-at-fir-at-fir-fir-at-fir-fir-at-fire, And you're
Starting point is 00:18:31 and you can't also on julledithen for you are often
Starting point is 00:18:37 ledig from job on the year so what you do do you or what
Starting point is 00:18:45 you do do you do you how was jul-ledih so lediheten that was
Starting point is 00:18:52 over jule to be ledig that you is ledig from jobet so
Starting point is 00:18:58 not. If you go in school so say you'llove. For a lov is when you're
Starting point is 00:19:07 ledig from school for example somalov, sportlov, julov, so. And if you
Starting point is 00:19:15 will ask someone what their planer are on you'll say, what
Starting point is 00:19:21 you do do you do? Or what what you do you or what did you? Or,
Starting point is 00:19:26 what What you did you on jule or on jule? Yeah, I'm going to go over jule. I'm going to tryffa my friends on jule. Over jule is, like, like, whole jule helen. And on jule, is maybe often a little more specific. On jule. And I should go to Sweden over jule.
Starting point is 00:19:54 I can say I can say I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to in school so it is all different ways to
Starting point is 00:20:01 say it on. And you say then you do good jule to each
Starting point is 00:20:09 so when you say hey so can you say hey so hey do good
Starting point is 00:20:15 you you can also you can also to get to got new
Starting point is 00:20:20 year so good jul and got new new Good Jule, can you say, whole December.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Got a new year, maybe are vanlier, a little nearer, new year. So, good Jule, or good Jule and got new
Starting point is 00:20:37 year. And, uh, some ofsnit I have done on Yulen, it is the ofsnit 17 and 59.
Starting point is 00:20:48 It is on Jule, so listen again for them. Number 64, on Tomten No, 115 on Lucia,
Starting point is 00:20:59 number 118 there have a talk with my mama on June and then we number 164 on Yuleclappar
Starting point is 00:21:13 so listen on them I think I linker also a spelista with Yuloters with Swedish Julloters. And I have also
Starting point is 00:21:27 a film tips. An Yul film that is very really really going on TV on June
Starting point is 00:21:36 is Tomten is far to all barnen. So if you will see a Swedish
Starting point is 00:21:44 Yulfilm so recommend I to take on Tomten is far to all barnen.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Role film. Yeah, so that was And, yeah, good Jule on you. And hope you have a really trevlig
Starting point is 00:22:03 and, yeah, it was not so bad of this of the end upslutet, but I hopeas that you have a really really
Starting point is 00:22:13 a really really a really year in all fall. So, so, we'll
Starting point is 00:22:18 soon again. Or, or I'll hear. I'm
