Starting point is 00:03:28 Because you deserve to be that comfortable, not just tonight, but every night. And once you've found that most comfortable position, you can allow your eyes to begin to close. as I count down from five, feeling the growing weight there in your islands. As we come to four, and your eyes may begin to flutter now. As you start transitioning into night, three, the growing weight of your islands, taking over, and you begin to let go of the day just past as we reach. Two, we're barely able to resist that. that desire to close your eyes,
Starting point is 00:05:02 but you hold on for just a few more seconds as we finally reach. One, in your eyes to close all the way down now, enjoying that sense of release and relaxation as the muscles in and around your eyes soften all the way, laxing your face, your forehead, your jaw, that sense of relaxation, to spread from your head throughout your whole body,
Starting point is 00:06:08 like a wave passing through your shoulders, your arms, your chest, and your back, softening every point of tension, releasing any lingering energy as it continues to spread across your hips, through your thighs, the tips of your toes, feeling your whole body, beginning to make that transition into stillness, softness, and sleep, or when you'll fall asleep tonight. But I do know, capable of profoundly restful sleep. Eat we're designed for it. Every cell in your being, already knows exactly how to fall into the perfect night's sleep. Process is effortless because sleep isn't something you force.
Starting point is 00:08:22 It's a state of being. The body is ready and the circumstances for that state to occur are present. And sleep happens effortlessly. And so our goal here tonight isn't too. to accomplish sleep, but rather to create the correct circumstances, to get out of the way, the body to do what it's designed to do. One thing that's extremely helpful to prepare the body for that transition is a few rounds of slow and deep breathing.
Starting point is 00:09:28 So let's take one short moment now to do that. Slowly and deeply through the nose, top of the breath. Before you exhale, even slower than the inhale. Just let the air fall back out, even deeper, even slower. Nice and easy, not forcing anything here. Once more now, inhale, turn to its own natural pace and depth. on whether it fits a certain rhythm or any way you think it should or must be. Allow your body to do what it does naturally.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Let it be soft and effortless. Brew this slower and deeper breath you've signaled to your body that you're safe and it's time to relax. And so your body in its own way is already beginning the physiological transition towards sleep, softening, growing heavier from the physical senses and sinking deeper and deeper into yourself. As you continue to rest more deeply in this way, you can allow your mind to wander to a memory of time in your life.
Starting point is 00:13:21 where you had the most restful, perfect sleep. Maybe it was years ago. Maybe it was recently. Maybe you were on vacation, listening to the distant sounds of the ocean. Maybe you were in a cabin in the woods as a gentle rain fell through the pine trees outside. Or maybe it was in your very own bed at home,
Starting point is 00:14:13 or even a lazy afternoon. afternoon nap on your couch, but whatever delightful memory of sleep you have stored away in your mind, just begin to draw that feeling back, worry if it's fuzzy or unclear at first, because whatever details may be missing, you can always fill in, but just begin by recalling whatever you do remember, the place you were in, the position in which your body was resting, anything you may have done leading up to that time, any sounds that surrounded you, temperature of the air on your skin, the softness of each breath. And as you continue, filling in these details,
Starting point is 00:16:22 bit by bit. Simply watch yourself in this memory. Your face looks. In every muscle, in every joint, and every corner of your mind, there's no trace of effort or trying. Memory. In this moment, you've already won. You've already surrendered. You've let go of everything you were holding on to. Simply enjoyed the time for peace and quiet that you so deeply deserve. Begin to step into the memory of yourself. Lied into your body as though that memory were happening.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Right now, with those sensations in your body, the ease and relaxation, slowly taking over as you settle deeper and deeper within. And maybe there's a profound sense of release, completion, lift in your heart and mind, embracing that same sense of the freedom to let go.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Entirely, knowing that, because you were capable of such profound ease, relaxation, and sleep. At some time before, you're just as capable of it now. Be even more so. And as you settle more and more into that memory, your body will begin to recognize that state, your nervous system, saying, I remember this.
Starting point is 00:21:01 I know how this feels, and I know where to go from here. spread through your body, feeling that fuzziness and tingle as your body rests deeper and deeper at same state of sleep. Beginning to relive that ignites rest, breathing in the same way, steady breath further and farther from any thoughts of the outside world, of conscious, falling deeper and deeper at same, dark and velvet abyss. By moment, as you relive that perfect night's sleep, aren't just remembering it. You are becoming it in the same restorative air, flipping into that of peace and comfort of any thoughts or worries, and any frustrations and concerned, you'll fall asleep in comfort in the knowledge that
Starting point is 00:25:13 your body knows how to sleep. It's a natural part of your being. Just as wakefulness is a part of you.
