Hey friend, welcome to sleep escape and to this supremely calming sleep meditation,
which draws on scientifically supported techniques to help soothe your nervous system,
quiet your mind, relax your body, and guide you into a deep restorative sleep.
I'll guide you through some slow, rhythmic breathing, a full body relaxation, and a visualization.
And if you'd like to know more about how these techniques will help you sleep, I'll put some information on that in the episode description.
For now, go ahead and find a comfortable position in bed, making sure you've turned off the lights, set in.
any sleep timers or alarms, and handled anything else you might need to, because once you
lie down and begin this meditation, it's time to let go of everything else. Just relax
and settle into sleep. And once you've settled into that most comfortable position,
just rest your gaze there, on the wall or the ceiling, whatever's out in front of you.
of you. And I know this seems counterintuitive, but it's very effective for inducing the body
into a state of relaxation. So as I count down from five to one, you can slowly allow your eyes
to close, starting at five, beginning to let go of the day just passed, and opening yourself up
to a peaceful and restful night.
Four, noticing that growing weight in your eyelids as we come to three,
and they may begin to flicker and flutter as we arrive at two,
but holding on for just a few more seconds,
maybe even seeing only through the tiniest slit in your eyelids,
until we finally reach one.
And you allow your eyes to close all the way down,
feeling the muscles in and around your eyes,
relaxing completely and feeling that ease and relaxation.
Spread all across your face,
softening the muscles of your forehead,
your cheeks, your jaw,
as a wave of relaxation forms and spreads through your whole body, completely relaxing each part
that it moves through, starting with your neck and your shoulders, just allowing the muscles
to soften, the tension, to release, as that wave spreads down both arms, across your elbows,
through your forearms, into your hands, and to the tip of each and every finger.
And as it does so, your arms can relax all the way down, releasing completely as that wave
continues on through your chest, down your back, softening every articulation in your spine,
easing the muscles in your core, your abdomen, and your hips as your whole upper body now
releases and sinks even deeper into the bed. And that wave continues on, down your thighs,
across your knees, your calves, your ankles, all the way through your feet,
to the tips of your toes.
At the very moment, that wave of relaxation has passed completely through your entire body.
It's as though a signal of safety and comfort is sent out through every cell of your being,
as though there's a switch for your body.
And you just flipped that switch all the way off,
sinking deeper, relaxing further, softening.
More and more as you take a few calming breaths,
inhaling, collecting any lingering tension,
hold for just a second at the top, then exhale completely.
Softening even deeper down into the bed,
twice more just like that.
even deeper this time inhale and exhale release and settle deeper last one inhale
make it your deepest breath yet hold and exhale release softening again all of the muscles in your body
letting go releasing the weight of the day all of the day all
of the conversations and the worries and the to-does because right now you have absolutely nothing to
do no one to show up for no role that you need to play you can simply enjoy this time for
for peace and quiet, knowing that we all fall asleep in our own way and on our own time.
So I invite you to let go of any expectations or beliefs or thoughts whatsoever about how you've slept in the past
or how you might sleep tonight and simply exist.
here in this moment of perfect stillness, enjoy this. Because when we're running around,
busy, stressed, there's nothing we want more. And to just lie down and close our eyes. And right now,
you have that. And to make this time even more enjoyable, I invite you to you,
to bring to mind a place of profound peace and relaxation, whether it's a place from your own
real life or one you're imagining up. It doesn't really matter, whatever it is. Just envision
yourself there now, resting in a comfortable position, noticing the sensations that this
place brings to your body in your mind noticing the smell of the air the sounds going on around you
and simply letting go of all worries knowing that here you are safe you are at peace and you can simply
relax leaving behind the happenings of the day just past and
embracing this time for ease and comfort.
Each breath guiding you deeper and deeper
into relaxation.
All thoughts, drifting farther and farther,
finding gratitude for the peace and stillness you feel
right here.
and right now appreciating the people in your life who make it even the tiniest bit better
trusting your body and your mind to follow their own natural processes in finding exactly as much
sleep as you need tonight resting assured that you'll awake in the morning.
feeling completely rejuvenated, completely restored with a positive mindset about your life
and the day ahead. But for now, just continuing to enjoy relaxing here in your own peaceful place,
sending out a silent thank you to this place just for existing and offering.
