Hey friend, if you're finding yourself awake in the middle of the night,
it's okay.
You've come to the right place.
And no matter what's keeping you up,
know that you aren't doing it.
anything wrong and you aren't stuck awake for the rest of the night. Your body knows how to sleep
when it's put under the right conditions. And we're going to create those conditions for it
right now. So close your eyes if you haven't already. Don't worry about the time,
how long you've been awake or how soon you need to get up.
The clock doesn't matter.
The most important thing right now is letting go of any frustration or worry or other negative feelings about how you're sleeping.
Instead, I invite you simply to try enjoying this time for people.
and quiet where you have nothing to do and nothing to worry about and you just get to relax,
detached from any outcome or expectation about sleep itself to help you enjoy this time for
peace and quiet. Let's take a few deep breaths together, inhaling, expanding all the way down through
your diaphragm. Hold for just a second at the top and exhale, release. And let the exhale be longer
and slower than the inhale. Breathing in, just let the air fall back out. There's no need to
force anything here. Once more, inhale, even deeper this time. Hold, letting everything go. Now you can allow your
breath to return to its own natural pace and depth. Whatever feels easy and effortless to you,
envisioning that each inhale collects tension and energy in your body and each exhale
releases it and expels it from your body. In this way, a deep sense of relaxation.
Slowly, but surely, begins to build and spread through your body.
Softening the muscles in and around your eyes,
relaxing your forehead and your jaw, feeling the back of your head.
Sink even deeper into the pillow.
Softening your shoulders, your arms and your hands,
your chest, your back, and your hips, all the way down through your legs.
Each breath, moving you just one percent closer towards sleep.
Moment by moment, not rushing, not forcing, just allowing, letting go and softening,
deeper and deeper into the bed.
And as you relax, deeper and deeper,
if a thought pops up,
just imagine it's a cloud passing in the night sky.
Don't try to fight it or contain it.
Just let it drift away
by coming back to the feeling of letting go
and sinking deeper into the bed, as there's nothing for you to do right now.
Problems to solve.
No one you need to show up for and nothing that you need to achieve or accomplish.
Just enjoying this time for peace and quiet, giving yourself permission to relax completely
and to help you relax more fully.
I invite you to imagine
as you're standing at the top of an old stone staircase.
And this is this staircase to sleep.
20 steps leading down
into a space of complete darkness
where you can finally let go
each step making your body feel twice as heavy and twice as relaxed as the one before and so you start
from the top at 20 stepping down feeling the cool stone beneath your feet grounding you and connecting you
to the sensations in this moment as you take one more step down to 19 and you feel an increasing
sense of heaviness in your legs as though even just the thought of moving them feels like effort
And so you simply let go and let gravity pull you down to 18 as the air around you is slowly becoming softer, quieter, sinking deeper.
To step 17, as every muscle in your back releases completely relaxing even deeper.
into the bed as you step to 16 as you leave the waking world behind it's becoming just a distant memory now as you
come to 15 halfway through the first flight of stairs and you're already becoming so pleasantly tired stepping
to 14 as a hazy mist
begins to surround you
distancing you from
everything in the outside world
all of your thoughts
and all of your worries
fading away
as you step to 13
and you notice that
every time you breathe out
You sink an inch deeper into your bed, stepping to 12 as your arms and legs fall completely still and heavy.
11 letting go of all physical sensations as the boundary between you and rest begins to dissolve.
reaching the halfway point now as you step to 10 revealing the bottom of the staircase.
A space of soft darkness and total peace as you move to nine and you're floating down now.
You don't even have to walk.
You're just drifting deeper.
and deeper, feeling the weight of your body so heavy that you couldn't even move even if you wanted to.
So instead, you allow that heaviness to take over, sinking, to seven, and your thoughts are moving.
So slowly now, almost non-existent arriving at six, closer and closer to the bottom and the land of dreams, feeling the beauty of silence as you come to five and you surrender completely, giving up the need of need.
to think or try in simply existing as you reach.
Four, so heavy, so quiet and so still, sinking deeper to three and noticing that.
You're almost there.
The velvety darkness is embracing all around you as you come.
to two and you take one final breath of the waking world and as you let it go you draw deeper and deeper
and deeper to one and here you've given up completely softened all the way down and you're simply
drifting, floating, and the gentle pool of sleep is arriving as it draws you to zero.
And that velvety darkness wraps all around you, sinking into the depths of sleep, releasing
and relaxing into peace, your thoughts.
distant, letting go of all physical sensations, surrendering with each breath, worried how much
sleep you'll get, simply enjoying this time for peace and quiet, allowing yourself to soften,
even deeper down, releasing all worries.
and concerns that you are safe and you are supported.
So just let go now.
Give in to that gentle pool of sleep.
Trusting that your body will get exactly as much sleep as it needs.
Letting go of expectations.
or beliefs about how or how much you should be sleeping and simply sinking deeper and deeper.
The velvety darkness behind your eyes and this place of complete stillness and safety
as you give up the need to think finally letting go sinking down and down and deeper down
drifting through the land of dreams giving yourself permission to release and let go completely
in the softness of your breath as you settle deeper deeper
and deeper toward a peaceful night's sleep from which you'll wake completely refreshed.
You're just drifting deeper and deeper and the gentle pull of sleep is arriving and that velvety
darkness wraps all around you sinking into the depths of sleep your thoughts of sleep your thoughts
so distant of all physical sensations, surrendering with each breath, enjoying this time for peace and quiet,
knowing yourself to soften, even deeper down, placing all worries and concerns that you are safe and you are supported.
So just let go now.
Give in that gentle pool of sleep.
Trusting that your body will get exactly as much sleep as it needs.
Think of go of expectations or beliefs.
You should be sleeping.
And simply sinking.

What a peaceful night's sleep.

knowing yourself to soften even deeper down,
facing all worries and concern that you are safe
and you are supported.
So just let go now.
Give in trusting that your body will get exactly
as much sleep as it needs.

sleeping and simply sinkingness and safety as you give up the need to think giving yourself
permission in the softness of your breath as you settle deeper and deeper or deeper
or to peaceful night's sleep from which freshed
