Starting point is 00:00:05 Today we're exploring how men and women spend their money, but make it artsy. Oh, I'm so nervous right now. I don't even, why did you give me so many brushes? More single women are homeowners than single men. What do you think is behind that? Responsibility. One, two. A spitting image.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Hey guys, I'm Rachel Cruz. I'm George Camel. And this is Smart Money Happy Hour. Cheers, George. Cheers. This is easily one of the best episodes. you guys ever done. Can I do my intro first?
Starting point is 00:00:43 Yeah. Wow, you're jumping the gun. I'm just so excited. He is so happy that this is a podcast for two friends who have to be money experts. Talk about what you're talking about. Everything from pop culture, current events, and money. All right, George. What are we sipping on?
Starting point is 00:00:57 We are sipping on a bourbon carahillo. I don't know if that's how you pronounce it, but it felt culturally accurate. I like it. Can you try it for me? Say it. You say it again? Carahillo. That was pretty good.
Starting point is 00:01:14 I don't think, I don't know that we roll the R. I am good at rolling my arms. I'm not sure that required. Spanish would be my second language if I had to pick. You barely got English down. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Rachel. Rachel.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Racheau. Okay. Hey, stick around until the end, though. We're going to rate the drink and reveal the cost per glass. And this one feels expensive. This feel, my guess is this is $4.38 cents. Ooh, fun guess. I'm going 424, Bob. I knew you were going to do that.
Starting point is 00:01:48 All right. Okay. Oh, we can't wait to tell you about all this, y'all. This is going to be a fun. It's going to be a fun episode because we are like brainstorming, you know, what are things about money? And this whole kind of opposite sex came up of like men versus women. And activities are so different. Like women. Just being social. Yeah, when we are social as women, I mean, it's everything from beach trips.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Yeah, girl. Let's just go. We got our showers. We got our baby showers. We got our wedding showers. We got our engagement. Even love a sprinkle. A sprinkle.
Starting point is 00:02:18 That's a new thing for me. Baby number two, you know what that is. You don't get a full shower, but you get a sprinkle, but we're all up for a party. We love a happy hour. I went to dinner with some friends. And there was a whole group of other women at the bar doing their happy hour. And I just like, good for you girls. You have a whole show that has the word happy hour in the name.
Starting point is 00:02:35 That's how much you love a happy hour. I was like, did she forget? That is the name of this show. We have workout classes. We got our yoga. We got our Pilates. We got our bar spin. Any class you want.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Book clubs. So anyways, we have a lot of ways to be social, the ladies. Women are very, they like to connect. Yeah, and some can be expensive. Some, more budget-friendly. I would say men are similar but different in that they don't want to make eye contact with other men. So they like to do things where they're looking at a thing, but not at each other.
Starting point is 00:03:07 That's right. You have to have a thing. But together. You know what I mean? A hundred percent. Because if they look too much into their eyes, they might think about their dads. And that's when things go south. We've got to avoid eye contact.
Starting point is 00:03:18 That's key for men's social events. So here's what men like to do. Again, these are stereotypes. So if you're like, I like anime, this isn't for you. We're just going generalizations here. Sweeping generalizations. Men like to go to sporting events. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Could be Little League baseball, screaming at the kids. Could be an NFL game. Either way, they're happy. Who knows? Comedy shows. That's what I'm personally into. Okay. John Deloney and I love to go to a comedy show, sometimes together.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Sports bar with the boys, just eating wings, watching the big game. Buffalo Wild Wings, when the bears are on? Little B-dubs never hurt anybody. That's what I say. Gym memberships. Guys love to be at the gym for two, three hours. I don't know what they're even doing there. What are they doing?
Starting point is 00:03:59 It's too much. Poker night, play some cards. And here's the thing. Honestly, most girly activities could be made into co-ed events for couples if you try hard enough. More on the women's side, though, I would say. It's harder, yeah, but some women like the guy stuff. Like, they want to watch the game.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's fair. You know, women can enjoy poker and wings. That's good. Women love wings. I do. My wife loves wings. I love wings. Same.
Starting point is 00:04:25 No sports needs to be involved. Anytime we get like a pizza order, because we do that a lot at our house, Papa John's or Jets or whatever, we always add some wings in. It pairs well. It pairs. It does. I love bar food, though. Love bar food.
Starting point is 00:04:36 What's your, you have a local spot? that you like to go to? You're going to ask. That's my favorite. Anything fried and cheesy, Rachel's into. I love Montserille sticks. More than anything? Okay, so, yeah, here in Nashville,
Starting point is 00:04:48 I mean, if we're going super local, because it's great with kids, because it's always loud, there's always big tables you can get, you know, like you're always able to. Like you're not going to make a nuisance with kids. It's already chaos. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:04:59 Yeah, that's right. We love Jonathan's. Jonathan's Grill. Yeah, and then next to his brew house. Yeah. So those two, you can, we can always get in one of those. Great. Hey, if you're in the Cool Springs area in Franklin, Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Yeah, I mean, they're not, they're like suburban sports bars. Yeah, I don't know. Like what chain, I guess Buffalo Wild Wings would be considered a big chain kind of sports bar. So fun. Do you like a sports bar? Here's the thing. A lot of sports bar food is not gluten-free. It's a lot of, you know what I mean? It's fried, carbs. So it's just less fun for me. Yeah, that's fair. Can you drink beer being gluten-free? Yeah, there's gluten-free beers and ciders. But like a normal? Because it has yeast. Normal beer, you can't do it.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Wow, George, I didn't think about that. Thanks for thinking of me. So a good, like, draft beer you can't have? No. No. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Although back in the day, I enjoyed a Sam Adams.
Starting point is 00:05:48 A nice crispy loggar. A crispy logger would do it for me. That's fair. I like it. But they have alternatives now. Okay, good. Good, good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:54 So one of the trends, though, of a ladies night out is the paint and sip. I've heard about these. So you can go and, like, have a glass of wine and, like, draw a picture, and then you have an artist in front of you. And then social media took, like, a spin on it where couples. which we are not a couple, but they will go out on a date and draw each other's picture. So I told George, we should do that on a smart money happy art episode because I'm a horrible artist. Like I can't draw.
Starting point is 00:06:22 However bad you are at singing, make that worse. It's all in the same category, in the same realm of life. But to be fair, you have many other talents. Yeah, that's fine. My self-esteem is great. Like, I feel really good about myself. I'm very aware of what- I'm not a great artist either, but compared to you, I am probably a problem.
Starting point is 00:06:38 So, we're going to put on these aprons, and we're going to start painting each other spaces. I feel like I'm just wearing a big bib. You know what I mean? You look great. I'm thinking about to just like crunch into a lobster, just a whole lobster. Oh, yes. You know what I mean? That's like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days vibes.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Okay, so we have some topics to discuss, George, while we paint, okay? We're already not good at painting. Now we have to multitask. I know, that's what I'm telling you. Okay. So I think the easiest way we're going to do this, I think I'm going to just hold mine and paint this way. I'll attempt to do the same.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And we have lots of brushes. They remind me of makeup brushes. Oh, that's what makeup brushes look like? Oh, my gosh. Okay, so, geez. Oh, I'm so nervous right now. I don't even, why did you give me so many brushes? There's 7,000 brushes here.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Like, what do I start with? Okay, my question is, how big are you doing my head? Are you going like big or you're going to go small? You wanted to fit the canvas well. I mean, well, what does that mean? It's about as, it's about to scale. Like, think about real life. So you may go big.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Like we're not doing like a little face. No, no, no, no, no. It's going to be, okay. Yeah, like the top of your head will be close to the top. All right. Okay, I feel like I need. What do you start with? I guess the thin, wispy ones?
Starting point is 00:08:03 I'm scared I'm going to start to paint your face. Shoot. Okay, hold on. All right. So before we start painting, I want to make sure everyone knows. This is an episode you kind of want to watch. So make sure that you're watching on YouTube or Spotify or the Ramsey Network app because you can't really hear us paint.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Yeah. I'm not a loud painter. All right. Okay. So seriously, though, I guess a face is not a circle. It's an oval. You're on to something. Okay, okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:08:32 I feel like the first, I feel like we need a pencil. Yeah, that would have been smart. Does anyone have a pencil? Or do we just go rogue? All right, we're being told to go rogue. What brush are you using? I'm using a wispy one. Oh, shoot, why? For my face?
Starting point is 00:08:47 Yeah, I kind of want to make... This is kind of my pencil, and then I'll start to kind of fill it in with the thicker ones. Oh, my gosh, you're so smart. Okay, I'm going to do that too. None of these look like your skin tone. That's what I'm saying. Okay, I think I just already messed up. I can't even see your face. How am I supposed to paint you? I'm sorry. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:09:03 All right. Here we go. Let's get into some content, George. All right. Here we go. Men spend more on entertainment supplies. I don't even know that means. Okay, so think about like indoor exercise equipment, athletic shoes, fireworks, all the things. They spend on average $675 per year on this stuff, where women spend $141 on the same category.
Starting point is 00:09:23 What do you think about that? Wow. I guess it makes sense. I mean, guys are more into, like generally, if they're into fitness, they're really into fitness. They want all the gear. Yes. So, like, guys love gear. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:35 And so if it's an accoutrement, they have to have the best running. shoes, whereas women can make do with what they have. Yeah, I would say that's true. Yes, I would say that's true. The fireworks is an interesting one. I guess guys are more prone to want to blow things up for fun. I know. Are you a fireworks person?
Starting point is 00:09:53 You know, no. Okay, thank you for your honesty. I will enjoy a fireworks show when it's appropriate. Fourth of July, all the things. But there is a part of me that I'm like, after like four of them, they are kind of all the same, you know what I mean? And everyone's like, ooh. Like even an amazing fireworks show 10 minutes in, I'm like, all right.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Yeah. Like, unless you get a smiley face or something really exciting in there. Hey, you know, the new cool stuff is the drones. Have you seen these drone shows where they create like actual objects? Oh, yeah. Those are cool. I like this brush. Okay, men buy women's shop.
Starting point is 00:10:31 So that's an interesting way. So men love to research the best product and go and buy. Women enjoy the process of weighing options, looking around. See, and I don't know, I don't, I think I am more, I'm not a researcher, I see it, I want it, I'm going to buy it, and call it a day. I don't like to window shop. You're pretty decisive. Yeah, I don't like to window shop. Do you go into stores?
Starting point is 00:10:54 Are you filling in my face with like a color? I will eventually. I'd kind of like to get an outline going. I've just, that's why I've seen Bob Ross do it. Okay, okay. I think I'm doing this wrong. Can I paint on top of paint? Yeah, that's how paint's supposed to work.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Okay, good, okay. You're doing great. There's no wrong answers. It's just bad painters. I hate, you know what? I have a scar, like a wounded emotional scar, because that's what all the art teachers, like, you never can mess up.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Well, I messed up, I remember, on one painting. And she's like, you can make it into a flower. And it was the stupidest looking thing. And she's like, it's your own. It's beautiful. And I'm like, it's not true. It's like when people's like, there's no stupid questions. I'm like, there are in your mind?
Starting point is 00:11:36 I think that probably could be. I mean, like, I don't think that's like a black and white statement. Same with arts. It's like, it's not beautiful. It's not. You can just say it, Ms. Tucker. It's just not. While art is subjective, it can also just be bad, too.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Kind of like music. Like, there aren't objectively just bad songs. I guess. And then there's like, well, that's not for me. It's the eye of the beholder. Like you like, I don't know what you listen to these days. I know. The goodness of God and Taylor Swift, it has not changed.
Starting point is 00:12:00 God, same exact soundtrack? What about the new Taylor? Are you excited for that? Yes, I am. And she and Wicked too. Second part of Wicked. They're all coming out kind of around the same time. Wow.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Poor Winston. We are going to have some music in our household. What's Winston listening to these days? He listens to bands I've never heard of. Like indie bands or like folk? Yeah. Jazz? What are we talking?
Starting point is 00:12:25 No, it's like indie punk. That's... Is that right? A genre? Okay. Okay, no, I don't know. I mean, I don't know. Can I say you have multiple hair colors?
Starting point is 00:12:34 What's that called? Highlights. Oh, highlights. I knew it wasn't a baliage. No. I did a balaage once and it was not good. I feel like that, has that faded out? Like, is that not on trend?
Starting point is 00:12:45 People don't really do baliage anymore. Not as much anymore. I feel like they're pretty. I got to say, I'm kind of nailing the hair. That's the easiest part. I just have a round circle and it filled in. That's all I have. You know what?
Starting point is 00:12:59 We're all children of God. So no matter how you make me. I don't know what to do. That stuff, George. That's okay. Oh, man, your hair. Okay. Okay, now we're going to do that hair.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Like a good dad. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. That's the worst case scenario. I'm going to cry. Yeah, I'm on the research side for men, buy, women, shop. I don't, going into a store can be stressful for me. Unless I really need to see it, touch it, feel it, test it. I'm going to just do it online and then return it and fight to the death to make the return happen.
Starting point is 00:13:38 All right, I got, I got the hair down. I mean, this is so, I'm just going to keep going. I just, I don't know what to do. I feel a little paralyzed. It's okay. You know what? Quit while you're behind. Next on the list
Starting point is 00:13:51 Single women spend more on apparel than single men Women spent 1.7 times More than men on clothing footwear and accessories Do you spend more or less than that in your house, Rachel? I would say more Yeah, I would say that's fair Is it because Winston is a man of simple taste? He's like, I've got seven shirts, why do I need more?
Starting point is 00:14:12 So he'll find a shirt or a style that's really great And then he'll just use it Okay, here we go. I got to move on to the face. I've been really postponing that. And one brand that he loves as well is Cozy Earth. Because their clothes, like all their athletes are wearing stuff, it's just amazing. It's so good, y'all.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Even this weekend, I was wearing their pants and top and stuff for the weekends. And it's just so comfortable. And their soft-washed cotton sheets. Yes, just got those. Especially coming into like the fall-winter vibes. Oh, my gosh. Amazing. It's like that lived-in clothing, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:51 which you put it on the first time. And like, this is nice. Yes. Imagine that while you sleep. All the time. It's so great. It's so great. The best.
Starting point is 00:14:58 And I just pulled out the, now that it's getting a little cooler, the big old blanket. Yes. The cuddle blanket? Yeah. Phenomenal. And my little daughter, me,
Starting point is 00:15:07 I had the best time in there. Aw. Sweet. We hung out and just made a little fort. Which that thing is like, that's got some weight to it. Yes. So it was serious.
Starting point is 00:15:16 But it was like she was cuddled by a thousand teddy. Bears is what it felt like for her. So she loved it. So sweet. Yeah. They got 40% off when you use the promo code smart money at checkout or go to cozyearth.com slash smart money. We'll drop a link in the description as well. Fabulous. So maybe the guys should spend a little more now, you know? I think women want to see guys with better fashion sense. That's probably fair. Guys are like, I feel like the vibe now is like lazy athleisure, you know, just like some old gray sweats, some tube socks, some slides. I think we need to step it up, guys. Yep. I'm a little stuck.
Starting point is 00:15:53 You're like, how do you make someone that handsome on paper? How do you do eyes? Oh, your eyes are way too close. I apologize in advance. You have a very natural. Can I get a good look at the brows here? What are we working with? Are we doing the thin brow these days? Let's see you have a medium brow. medium. Okay, I got to do, I think I'm going to do your glasses first before I do your eyes, which might be dangerous.
Starting point is 00:16:22 But here we go. What's the shape of your glasses? Straight and then circle. Is it sort of not quite oval, not quite circle? This is, it's really hard to get like a thin line. Yeah, I would agree with that. They did a sturdy with these brushes. I require more professional equipment.
Starting point is 00:16:42 You know, something else I love is that more single women are homeowners than single men. Now, that's interesting. Yes, so women own around 11.1 million homes, single men 8.4 million. Okay, I'm trying to help me understand that. What do you think is behind that? Responsibility, hard work. Oh, that makes sense. Guys are like, dude, that's like, yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:17:06 It's so hard. Like, it's so hard to get a house these days. Like, I don't know what to do. And girls are like, just step aside. Let us just buy the houses. Single women. So, okay, it's just single women versus single men. I do think single women have more fiscal responsibility.
Starting point is 00:17:18 I think so, too. And it may come from out of like a safety element, too. That's right. Dudes are willing to like live off, you know, on the edge of their seat a little bit more. They'd rather put the money into like a car and have a big car payment and rent. Yep. They're not as concerned about stability. And I think a home represents stability for women.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Yes. So that tracks. I would see that. And there's a part two of, I think, like, if I'm doing well, and I can, I'm going to go ahead and continue to, like, advance where I want to be, where I do feel like some guys, I don't know, yeah, I guess it's just like what you're saying, but it is like the priority is different. Maybe. I don't know. But that's what I'm going to say. Okay, I tried to get your nose. You can't really see. Yeah, I don't know what. How do you do a part of your face that is the color of your face, but it's a show up 3D, you know? Or 2D. I guess it's what it would be. Does that make sense?
Starting point is 00:18:18 Sorry, I just bought, can I get a straight on visual of your nose? Because I just did you're real dirty here. Can you look at me right? Yeah, I will. Okay. This, it's looking not. Okay. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:18:33 It's fine. All right. Zero judgment. Zero judgment. Okay. We're going to move on to the mouth. Half of men and women lack retirement savings. 50% of women and 47% of men have no personal retirement savings.
Starting point is 00:18:48 At age 55? Yeah, that's not good. Is that real? We got to start investing. You're telling me like half of everybody has zero in retirement by age 55. That's what it's saying. That's the U.S. Census Bureau. Why would they lie?
Starting point is 00:19:02 They have no reason to lie. Yeah, they don't care. It's the government, Rachel. Why would they lie? Why would they lie? Yeah, this is a big one because at 55, it's so much harder to make up for lost time than 30. You know, compound growth doesn't have as much time to work. So if this is you, yeah, it's going to, you just have to work longer and invest more. So it's a harder habit to create
Starting point is 00:19:24 because you're older and you have to go even harder in the paint, as they say. Ooh, well, good reference, good reference. Okay, George, I think your lips, I'm, I think I'm not going to do a smile for you. Just to be safe. I didn't even think about your lip color. All right. Dad, comment, y'all. It's so bad. Can I see your lips? Like, don't smile.
Starting point is 00:19:49 Let me just see what the lips look like. I got to... I was trying to see what kind of taper you have there. Oh, and you have a mustache. Holy mackerel. Thank you for saying that. A lot of people don't consider this a mustache. No, you were like, the facial hair.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Oh, man. I would say you don't have any facial hair. You look like. You do you know. Who? A celebrity? Do I have a doppel gang? Guess who characters? A beard? Guess who?
Starting point is 00:20:25 That was a great game. That was a great game. You're saying in real life I look like a guess who character? No, no. In my painting. I was like, I don't know how to take that. It's, I'm going to have to give you more facial hair. Oh my gosh. The nose is real, things really went wrong. See, I went simple.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Do you have like a thin neck, would you say? Or you think it's like pretty long? I mean, I would prefer thin neck. I'm trying to think if you're... Yeah, you have a good neck. Just like giraffe life. It's like a baby giraffe. Yeah, it's wild.
Starting point is 00:20:58 I wouldn't say full giraffe, but baby at least. Okay. Your poor beard is something else. I'll just say that much. Do you want to talk more about investing? Okay, so yes, when you are investing, making sure that you're debt-free, you have a fully funded emergency fund.
Starting point is 00:21:13 I can't look at you in this. I'm starting laughing. fully fund their riches fund, and 15% of your income into retirement. And yes, even if you are 55 and you have debt, we would still say pause retirement. Because when you are completely out of debt, you can invest, again, 15% where normally you probably wouldn't be able to do that if you have debt. So we would rather you invest more later than a little bit now because being out of debt freeze up your income to do that. That's true. Which can feel counterintuitive to some.
Starting point is 00:21:46 But when you don't have payments and you're going into retirement, you're going to be able to live off less. You'll need less to live off of because you don't have all that day. You don't need as big of a nest egg if you follow the Ramsey plan because you don't have debt. That's right. That's good advice right there. And we do have a great investing guide. I like to point people to if you go to Ramsey Solutions.com slash guide. It's completely free.
Starting point is 00:22:07 And I found that's a good kind of just primer on what to do, how to do it, why to do it. Yeah, that's good. I like that. And something else great to have, not just our investing advice, is delete me. Yes. Delete me is a great service, you guys. If you have any amount of data on the Internet, which we all do, it's 2025, your information, your email address, your address, home address, kids' names, all of that is out there. And data brokers can collect your data, and they sell it to other data brokers and make money.
Starting point is 00:22:40 But Delete Me goes in and removes your data, which is incredible. Because, again, there's so many scams and fishing and you get text messages from people you don't know and emails. Like, it's just insane. But Delete Me goes in and removes your information. And mostly from these websites that we've never heard of. Like, you've never heard of it. It's weird. It's like crazypeople.com or something.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Creepy Peoplefinder.com slash biz. Yeah, it's bizarre. So it's well worth the subscription fee. And again, you get 20% off at joinedleetMe.com slash smart money. So do it. Good one to get. Do it. Great one to get.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Okay. Alcohol. Guess who spends more? Men or women? I'm going men. Yes, you're correct. Men spend more on alcohol than women. Men spend on average $542 annually while women spend $257.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Whoa. Is it weird that that feels low to me? Because that's alcohol out, like if you're out at restaurants or something versus like getting a bottle of something. 542 annually. Women spend, that can't be right. You told me women spend 20 bucks a month. I know, I feel like that would, yeah. And men are out like, you know, 45 bucks a month or so.
Starting point is 00:23:53 I know, maybe we're the crazy ones, George. I just don't know that I buy it. Like, I think whoever took this survey was a little bit kind to themselves. It's like when you're good at the doctor and they're like, how much, what is it? Like, how much do you eat out? How much do you drink? How much, you know, they ask you like all your health questions. Okay, I'm going to go.
Starting point is 00:24:15 All right, I'm filling in the face. I hope you are too, because at this point, there's no return. I don't know what I just did at the bottom of your shirt, but I'm going to just do it because it just feels like it's taking up space, and I like that. We like to take up space. I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:27 You kind of look like a pilgrim. I'll take that. Like a cloak or a priest. There's some indie bands that are trying to look like pilgrims. So, you know, I take that as a compliment. Well, I don't know why. Yeah, again, just, I feel like I'm going to get judged from the bottom. You've got to look at the face.
Starting point is 00:24:44 No one's going to judge you. Here we go. Here's the next one. Most men spend less on pet costs than women. Not in our house. Not in this, yeah. On average, women spent $575 on annual pet costs. I can see that.
Starting point is 00:24:59 I can see that. I think naturally that more nurturing, taking care of. Yeah. Money is just a thing. Like, I would rather have something in my life that I love and value that over money. I can see that. It's like a little bit of that nurturing side, taken care of. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:13 I spend way more than that on our dogs. and I don't have hobbies. So when people roast me for it, I'm like, I also don't have golf, sports, fantasy football leagues. Okay, how about vehicles, George? So women spend nearly half as much as men. Can you believe that? Oh, that makes total sense.
Starting point is 00:25:32 On average, women spend $684 on new cars, men, 1,219. I'm assuming that's like a payment. You know how I think women tend to dress for other women? men tend to drive for other men. Mm. You know? I appreciate that. Whereas women, I think that when they choose a car, they're looking for reliability.
Starting point is 00:25:54 And if it's nice, that's a bonus. Yes. Guys are like, I want to flex. I got to have a bigger truck than my boy. You know, I got to soup it up. Yep. Add weird features that really don't have any benefit other than maybe aesthetics. You know, a big spoiler on the back?
Starting point is 00:26:08 You ever just see a big spoiler and go, what's this guy doing with his life? What's he doing? How's he doing? because if he's not racing for F1 this was a mistake I will tell you Winston got new tires Okay
Starting point is 00:26:20 And he like That's a normal thing to do Well no they were like bigger Like It was like a thing Because he would see trucks Around and take pictures of them He went and this is very
Starting point is 00:26:32 Strangers trucks This is very not Winston Cruz thing to do But he went and knocked on a guy's door In a neighborhood next door Because he kept seeing this truck And he's like I just really like those tires And I want to know what they are specifically, if you like some,
Starting point is 00:26:45 if he had to, like, raise up his truck, like all this anyways. But I thought of you, George, because you always laughed about guys in their trucks. But Winston, you get it. And then he was like, what do you think of the... Oh, snap. He was like, what do you think of the new tires?
Starting point is 00:26:59 And I was like, I, they look like tires. They didn't look that different to me. You weren't impressed. You were not impressed with these tires. They just, yeah, it didn't. Okay. Okay, your neck is kind of gray. Because it mixed in with the black of your shirt.
Starting point is 00:27:12 No harm, no foul. Okay, but something that we have loved, though, that we've done and kind of changed was Fairwinds, credit union? Yes. So Fairwinds, you guys, it's amazing. It's a credit union that has all Ramsey values. Like, they value their customers. They want you to be working a plan and saving. I mean, they are an incredible company.
Starting point is 00:27:34 And you want your bank to be working with you, not against you, when it comes to your money. And so Fair wins is that. Like, they are just incredible people. you guys, we have loved working with them and the services that they have with their smart checking and savings bundle. It's just incredible. So you can go to fairwins.org slash Ramsey and check out that smart savings checking and savings bundle. And tell them, yeah, that you're a Ramsey fan, that you love Smart Money Happy Hour, all the things. Because again, they work alongside you and we love that. And you don't have to be, you know, you could be anywhere because their online banking and everything
Starting point is 00:28:07 is just incredible. And so the user-friendly service, the sign-up is really fast. really easy. Like, they make everything really simple. And that's great, especially if you're, like, doing things digitally, like on your phone and all of it. It's great. So make sure to check out fair wins. They're incredible.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Yeah, they called me. And I was like, uh, hello? Is everything okay? They're like, yeah, we're just checking in, just seeing how you're experiencing. I was like, this is crazy to have a human call you from a bank. Like, it was such a beautiful, different experience. It's great. And they don't know me from that.
Starting point is 00:28:38 It's not like they knew I was George from Ramsey, you know? Right, right. Right. No, they're amazing. So good people over there. And great features, too. Yes, yes. All right, last but only, George.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Women hold the buying power in the home. So there's a lot of different sources out there that show that on average, women hold 80 to 85% of the buying power in the home versus men. Just for buying anything? I think so. That makes sense. They see everything.
Starting point is 00:29:04 They know what's going on. They kind of have a pulse check on like how it's being run. Anything that's not like a major purchase, usually the women are handling it. When you think about household items, grocery items, you know, not just like paying bills,
Starting point is 00:29:18 but like buying things for the family and for the home. To keep the household. And if you ask the man, like, what do we need for, he would just be clueless in most cases. Yes. What do the kids need?
Starting point is 00:29:27 Yep, totally. What do we need for the kitchen right now? Yeah. What's the pantry need to be stocked with? Yes. The women kind of, yeah, I would say majority of them have the, which I'm fine with.
Starting point is 00:29:38 That I like, keeping tabs on that stuff. Yeah. Women carry what I call and my wife would say the mental load. That's something I've learned a lot about. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:48 There's just a lot of things they're thinking about that the man is just not. And so I think the more the women can communicate, hey, this is what's on my mind. Can you help? Versus just being resentful in their head?
Starting point is 00:30:00 Well, sure. Be resentful out loud so we can fix it. Yes. That's all I ask. Yes. Very helpful for me. It's good to know, George.
Starting point is 00:30:08 Good to know. Man, I feel like I should do like, I don't know. I don't know how to fix this. I think you're going to love the way you look. Oh, you've got some, like, blush. Is that what that is? Yeah. I don't have any blush color here.
Starting point is 00:30:25 That's okay. Just know that you look like the hot dog and the 7-Eleven that's been on the roller too long. That's kind of what happened here with the skin tone. I think you look like a guess who character. All right Oh my gosh I mean I don't
Starting point is 00:30:44 And that's the thing is I'm like I would Oh gosh I gotta give you a side burn Hold on A side burn? Yeah you connect Don't you? Yeah yours connects
Starting point is 00:30:52 Oh gosh I'm getting paint everywhere Hold on you almost showed me If I was not painting I would have seen it Okay and I feel like I should give you Your hair Oh gosh
Starting point is 00:31:02 I will say the hair is probably difficult for you I'm gonna give you a little bit more More hair? Yeah Okay, I gave you too much. It's like a woolly mammoth over here. You know what? I have very thin hair, so I would appreciate that. That's great. I'll take more. I will say we're doing the middle part now. Is that correct? Are we sticking with that? It's not quite middle.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Off center? Little off center. Is that purposeful or? It's like where my calic is. Okay. I didn't know if there's a per, yeah. So that's where your natural kind of part is. Oh, wow. Okay. Okay. So the way you want to do this big reveal is I'm, I don't know. I hand it to you without you seeing it. You hold it up to your face and you don't look at it first. Let the audience see.
Starting point is 00:31:49 I'm going to put yours right here. Okay. Can you see this at all? No. Okay. All right. I'll take mine. All right.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Here we go. Okay. Okay. All right, everyone watching at home. Rachel's going to hold it up next to her face. Are you not entertained? One, two, three. A spitting image.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Wouldn't you say that is like overcooked? tot dog on the rollers. Okay, tell us what you like first. Say three nice things. The eyebrows. Okay. I don't even know. I think it gave you a good amount of neck.
Starting point is 00:32:41 The neck is good. The chin could use some definition. The neck is good. Okay. You look very inflamed. Yours looks, I'll say. You could use an anti-inflammatory diet. Gluten free for sure.
Starting point is 00:32:57 My gluten. levels. Very jaundice. Maybe more SPF. Yeah. Whatever you're wearing. Okay, I'm going to say yours does look more lifel. Oh, the eyes are great, George.
Starting point is 00:33:08 I know they're not hazel, but like the, you did a, like the black and the white, like. Okay. Yeah. Thank you. That was good. All right. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Okay. Okay. Okay. So I'm going to hold it up next to my face. Uh-huh. I'm not going to look. Is that it? you're a little...
Starting point is 00:33:36 How do you think you did? What would you say went wrong before I even look? I would go thinner. It's much of a rounder look. And it's just more cartoonish than... I mean, that's pretty terrible. Yeah. No, you're right. You're right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Okay. Go ahead. Oh my gosh. Why do I have just like dimples for eyes? I said I liked your eyes. better. You're your actual eyes. I will say your actual paint work is beautiful. Well, thank you. Like the textures, like you did a much better job. I just don't know I have just dots for eyes and tiny glasses and then it's a bowling ball for a head. And then my hair is just like one little, you know, it's kind of accurate. Little ears, little wispy mouth. Little dainty ears, then a big old
Starting point is 00:34:33 beard, which is very generous because my beard is not like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there we go. Okay, let's hold them up together. That's it. There's your smart money happy hour. Hey, this is smart money happy hour. I'm Rachel Cruz. I'm George Camel. I wouldn't trust these two. If I saw him in a dark alley, I would run the other one. These are for sure mugshots. This guy is not intimidated. Mug shots of Mary and Sean who murder people. That's what these are. This guy is good Wi-Fi. You can trust him. He's not going to hurt anybody. She's going to try to sell you something that's illegal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:07 She definitely does marry Kay. And not well. In the daytime. Does not have a pink Cadillac. She got sold on a dream. Oh my gosh. She got sold on a dream. Wow.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Okay. Well done. That was... That was the most stressful thing I've done in a long time. That was really special. I watched the baby come into this world not long ago. Yeah. That was more stressful.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Oh, well done, George. That was fun. Thank you for your... And now I know what you really think of me. You know what this does look like? It looks like if you didn't know what Steve Jobs looked like in 1984, and you were just like, I'm guessing this is what Steve Jobs looks like. It kind of looks like him.
Starting point is 00:35:45 You know what I do not have a future in? Sketching for criminals for the police department. Oh, that would be a sight to see. Sketches. What do you look like? I don't know. Something like that. They would never find me if I committed the crime.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Oh, my gosh. What did we learn today that we should stick to our strengths? Yes. Men and women are different, obviously. Where they spend money is different. And I think we're okay with it. I'd say stereotypically,
Starting point is 00:36:15 I agreed with most of what the studies found. Yeah, there was no huge shockers. The single women owning more homes was a big standout for me. But other than that, it seems like the people who are, I don't know, trying to keep up, they're going to keep up in their own ways.
Starting point is 00:36:32 For the guys, it's going to be with the gear and the sports stuff and whatever outdoorsy stuff. And for the women, maybe it's more upkeep and apparel. But I want to give credit to the women. Yep. In that societally, we have put more pressure on them to keep up. If that makes sense. From like an outward, yes.
Starting point is 00:36:49 From an outward perspective. Now, some of it's on them, some of it's on women. It's not like men are doing this too women. Yeah, from more of like the consumer side. But I think guys find their ego and like their golf club and their like thing that they got here. Like, you know what I mean? They find their value and stuff too.
Starting point is 00:37:03 And men like to keep score more on the financial scoreboard. Yes. Versus women. Mm-hmm. Women are probably a little more values focused than men. But again, these are huge generalizations because what you'll see is there could be dudes out there crushing it who are investing in their 401Ks, don't care about impressing other people. And same goes for women.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Totally, 100%. And it's okay to buy things and enjoy them. Like, I don't want people to hear, well. they don't want people to spend money on things they enjoy. They hate hobbies and social events. Right, no, no, no, no. But when you do it with debt and you do it for bad reasons and bad motives, it's just going to end up crushing you.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Yes, you just end up in an endless cycle where you're just running, run and running. You're not getting anywhere. It's exhausting. Find value in life, be smart about your money. So when there are things do come up for you to pay for and enjoy, you can actually enjoy it and I have to worry about getting a bill for it later. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Delayed gratification is a big one. All right, a couple of rapid fire questions, George. Okay. What is one social expense you're often invited into but hate spending money on? Oh, gosh, there's so many. A social, okay, I'm trying to think of a social expense in my life. Like, hey, we're going to go do this thing and it's going to cost us 40 bucks a piece, 50 bucks a piece. What would that thing be?
Starting point is 00:38:16 I mean, eating out is the big one. For sure. But, like, I don't feel as bad eating out. Yeah, if it's a good meal. Yeah, yeah. Social expense. I like going to the movies. I feel like that's a reasonable.
Starting point is 00:38:28 I always go, like, is this a reasonable cost for the value and entertainment I'm getting and the time I'm spending? Yes, yes. So on that then, I would say if it's a restaurant that's overpriced for the experience you get. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:42 I think that can be tiring. Yeah, there's a place in Nashville that's like very high up, tallest building in Nashville, and it's a very cool experience, but the food was just mediocre to me. Yeah, so that would be one that I'm like,
Starting point is 00:38:53 I hate that. That wasn't worth it. Yes, I'd rather go to, get some bar food somewhere and enjoy some time. But here's the thing, a social expense, at least there's an experience involved, and hopefully that is a memory with people that I love. Yes.
Starting point is 00:39:05 And so that, to me, I can justify that pretty easily at the stage of life. Yep, I love that. Okay, what's one budget category you and your spouse feel differently about? Oh, boy. The closing category. Yes.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Man. You feel like it should be higher? And Winston's like, I don't understand why you need to... No. I think it's more he doesn't. And it's not like a thing between us. It's been 15 years of marriage, so we've kind of settled on like what it's going to be.
Starting point is 00:39:35 But I think for him it's like a, do you need another black shirt? Like, I don't know. Like I, you know, where I'm like, ooh, I'm going to go buy four new pairs of jeans or whatever the thing is, you know. He's like, but you've got plenty. So we're getting, he's simple in that. So I'd say that's probably one category.
Starting point is 00:39:50 Because everything else, I would say we pretty much see I die on. But I'd say the, yeah, the clothing category. That's a good one. Yeah. I think my wife is like always wanting kind of new clothes, like refresh the wardrobe. And then they come in. And then she's like, well, I'm going to return most of it. And so that becomes a thing because I'm on box.
Starting point is 00:40:09 I'm breaking down 17 boxes a day of just things that she might return that are really me going to return. Yes. So that part we can bicker about. And the part for me is she knows if I buy a musical instrument or skateboarding things, she knows like hey you're not going to why you're not going to use it yeah you're buying it and it's not going to be used yes and it recently happened I bought a brand new skateboard because I was like babe I'm going to get back into it and how many times have I well because you have a new baby that's the thing it's the reality of life I'm like if I break an arm I can't hold a baby
Starting point is 00:40:42 which is that's going to make her even more angry so that's the thing I'm trying to get back into the hobbies that bring me joy but there's no time in this season to do that You have like a two-week-old. Exactly. I have to follow that. But if I was like, I'm going to get a new guitar, she's like, you don't play the three that you have. Right, right. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:40:58 So that's a very fair critique from Whitney. I appreciate that. Okay, so there's some low-budget social hangs that you men and women both can enjoy. You ready? A movie night. A game night. You love a game night. My gosh, game nights are so fun.
Starting point is 00:41:15 B-Y-O takeout night. So just bring it. Yeah, bring your food. Bring it over. I'll eat. Everybody bring it. snack, it's in the backyard, especially if it's like a cool fall into winter nights, get a fire going.
Starting point is 00:41:27 I like anything that's potluck style of jelly. Everyone brings something. Yes, yeah. You know my favorite hang these days has been, it's like, it's definitely like a kid thing. But like after dinner, we got it in a habit like a month into school, I guess because summer was up where it's like, oh, hey, if everyone's coming home from practices and stuff, like, whoever wants to stop by, how glass wine, the kids can still swim. and you can do it to like 7 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:41:51 It's a school night, so it's like seven to eight. And the people that were open, you're able to do it, but it's like an after-dinner thing just for like a quick period just to be like, oh, yeah, house is open if anyone wants to stop by. It can't be late night because we got school the next day. But that's been a fun thing, but you don't have to provide much. Like, there's not like food. No one expects much.
Starting point is 00:42:08 There's not a lot of hoopla. But it's just to like be, and you're not paying out to be out of a restaurant or something. And we do a, we have a monthly supper club with a small group of friends that we do. And it's always that someone, you know, we switch houses. And everyone brings something. And we kind of know, like, hey, you're the salad person. You know, Cassidy's going to bring the wine. She ain't making no food, but she'll bring a good bottle, you know.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Yes. So that's always fun, and it's low cost, and it's a good way to have something on the books. Because I've realized if I don't have it on the calendar, it just won't happen. 100%. And that's why women hang out more than men. They're better on the administrative side to just make things happen. We calendar it out. And men, like, bro, we should, like, hang some time.
Starting point is 00:42:42 And they're like, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And they get nervous. And they feel we're, like, texting a guy like, hey, man, do you want to hang out and say? Girls are. Either we're hanging out, my friend Annie and I, like once a month she comes over, and before she leaves, we put a new date on the calendar, like before she leaves. But then if there's like some friends that text about lunch, people will text, hey, I have Tuesday,
Starting point is 00:43:00 the 14th, Thursday, the 16th. They'll give you like five dates and we can like find a date. I love the specificity. That's it. Don't leave it hanging in the air. And that's why I think guys love sports because it's a thing happening. They're like, hey, you want to come over and watch the game? Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:11 It's not weird then. That's right. You want to come over and just stare into the wind? Just hang out. Yeah. Oh, so good, George. That's good. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Well, before we spill the tea on our guilty is charged segment, let's share the details of the cocktail. Let's do it. This was the bourbon Cadahia. C-A-R-A-J-I-L-L-O. What do you rate it? I'm going to go 9 out of 10 on this one. If I got this at a restaurant or at a fancy coffee shop, I would be impressed. I'm going to go 7 out of 10. Is it the coffee for you in there?
Starting point is 00:43:41 No, I like it. It's fine. No, I like it. It's fine. I just don't know if it'd be like my first to order, but it tasted good. It would be a great after-dinner drink if you need a pick. me up. See, I think I would go espresso martini over this. But I think for the men out there, this is like a manlier version. Oh, there's, that's a good way of putting it. You know, it's like curing tobacco. Tobacco. It's like dip, but in a cocktail. It's got espresso, bourbon, liqueur 43, which is spelled L-I-C-O-R, and it's from Spain. It's kind of a citrusy herbal lique, Angostura bitters, and an orange slice. Comes out to $3.83 per glass. So Rachel wins.
Starting point is 00:44:20 I guessed 438. You were like 426 or something. Yep. So it's a pricier one, but it's very, it feels very high-end cocktail bar. So shout out to our mixologist Michael. Well done, Michael. For a great drink. Get the recipe in the show notes.
Starting point is 00:44:33 Give it a try this weekend if you're of age. All right, now it's time for guilty as charged. And this is where we ask each other a guilty charge question every week. And if we're guilty, we take a sip. All right, George. Question is, have you ever been at a casual friend? that ended dramatically. Dun, dun,
Starting point is 00:44:52 done. 100%. There was one that your brother was involved in. No way. So we were playing a game Secret Hitler where it's not pro-Hitler
Starting point is 00:45:02 just so everyone's aware, but you have all these cards and one of you is Hitler and the rest are trying to take Hitler down. Okay. But the person who's Hitler is trying to... It's kind of the mafia. That's what we play.
Starting point is 00:45:11 Yes. Mafia. So you kind of have this bluff of like, no, I'm not Hitler. I bet it's that guy. And so it's a very strategic game. You have to be very persuasive. Yes. So the goal is to take down Hitler.
Starting point is 00:45:22 And if you choose the wrong person who's not Hitler, then Hitler wins. Oh, man. Not the goal. We don't want that. We don't want that. We don't want that. So I'm trying to convince the group with all my might that I truly aim not Hitler. And I'm like, guys, I don't know how to explain. And your brother played it so smooth, so coy, and convinced everyone that I was the bad guy when he was the bad guy. Oh, stop it.
Starting point is 00:45:48 And I was legitimately mad at him after. I was like, I don't know that I can trust you anymore. I can't work with you. Like, who was this person that maniacally at a sociopath level was able to convince everyone that I was the bad guy and he was clean. So funny. I haven't forgiven him yet. That's good. And then this last one, supper club, I thought it would be a really fun game.
Starting point is 00:46:08 This is right before the election. Oh, Lord. To say, hey, everyone go around the table and say who you're voting for and why. Jesus. It got out of control. with the first person and we had to shut it down. It kind of ruined the night. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:46:21 In my head, I thought, because we all know each other well, we know that we have different political spectrum here. Yes. And I thought we could have a reasonable conversation. Yes. And it would be entertaining. It was not. Here's what I learned, because my hang, it was that too.
Starting point is 00:46:35 Ended not great because of politics. But the people came back around to each other, men did it. Oh, good. But it was not, I mean, yeah, it was like offensive. It was hard, offensive, all the things. Yeah. All the things. So I've learned, I think, with all of that, it's got to be a one-on-one conversation.
Starting point is 00:46:52 You can't have a group disagreement. If you disagree with someone, you get so much further along in the conversation and actually understand, learn all the things when it's just one-on-one. You're right. And you both have that attitude. If one is stonewalled and they don't care, there's no, like, curiosity, if you will. That's not a fun conversation. It's way more fun if you're genuinely like, oh, my gosh, I want to know.
Starting point is 00:47:13 What did you think about? Like, I want to hear. I think that's my personality is I'm like, okay, like, like, I'm just curious. Yes. Versus having a strong opinion and be like, well, if you don't agree with this and you're wrong. Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. Starting point is 00:47:44 But I kind of like... picking the fight and then getting in the back and just watching with popcorn. You know what I mean? So, yeah.
