Starting point is 00:01:38 november are you kidding me time is flying by i can't believe 2025 is almost over i truly feel like i have lived in a time warp this entire past year anybody with me anybody with me i don't know if it's like a getting older thing or if it's just like a life thing not sure still figuring it out but my god i cannot believe it's almost thanksgiving and then christmas and then new year and then it's gonna be spring and summer again and then fall again oh my goodness wow life is crazy anyways while you are listening to this i am in japan actually i think i'm on a uh flight to japan as you're listening to this we'll be landing in japan as you're listening to this so exciting could not be more excited to be on this trip and if you want to see what i'm up to
Starting point is 00:02:41 go follow me on instagram at hannah marlene to see all the photos videos and various other things i will be up to in japan of course you guys know the full report will be back when i am back in the states which is in two episodes but i figured this is a good time to sit down and talk about travel talk about travel in your 20s i feel like i've done a fairly good amount of travel um in my 20s so far especially this year I mean where did I go okay maybe I didn't go that many places this year but me and my friends we took a little girls trip we went out to Colorado to Aspen spent some time out there this summer now I'm in Japan honestly I spent most of this year planning towards this big trip uh Japan is actually my first trip out of the country that is not
Starting point is 00:03:35 Mexico I feel like Mexico is so easy because it's so close the flight is fairly short it's like maybe four hours at most I feel like especially working in America and working in many restaurants you just pick up on Spanish I mean they teach you it in school it's something that you know I can use fairly conversationally or enough to at least get around or understand sorry my fat ass cat is running across the table if the camera I'm there's not an earthquake it's just his fat ass sprinting across the table but I feel like it's a fairly easy trip to do if you do need a first trip out of the country Mexico is fantastic highly recommend but I wanted to challenge myself this year and I honestly you're like why Japan are you like really into anime are you really into like
Starting point is 00:04:30 the fashion the culture genuinely and I know this might sound um surface level not conceited but surface level indeed I really just want to go for the food you guys know me I'm a massive foodie I love food I love Japanese food Japanese curry is probably in my top three foods ever I love sushi i mean those 7-eleven mukbangs babe i am watching them for hours on end every single night girl put an egg salad sandwich in my hand in a tuna mayo onigiri and like i'm a happy girl you know of course i want to go for the sightseeing the temples just like the beautiful nature shopping duh but this is definitely my big foodie trip this is my anthony bourdain i'm going to eat as much different food as I possibly can. It's definitely going to be a challenging trip
Starting point is 00:05:30 just because obviously I don't know much Japanese. I've been practicing up on it to the best of my ability and also it is going to be a bigger culture shock but I'm so excited to challenge myself and to just push myself outside of my comfort zone and experience the world. I think travel is one of the number one ways to learn about yourself and learn about the world around you. I think it's very important to learn about the world around you. Sometimes our vision can get clouded by what we have going on at home, whether it's drama, whether it's our usual routine, life can seem very boring and mundane. And once you expand your horizons and realize just how much is out there and you know you interact with new people you interact with new
Starting point is 00:06:23 experiences you gain hope from those things and you gain a new positive outlook on life that truly is completely unshakable and absolutely transformative after I come home from any trip I go on I always learn more about myself I feel more confident in myself I feel more hopeful in the world around me and I feel more passionate about life so if there's one thing that I can encourage anybody here listening to do it is to get out and travel now of course you have to kind of go about travel with what works for you if you are a young person in college right now sure you can't just drop everything and go travel I get it sometimes your long-term goals actually all the time your long-term goals are more important than the short term so please work get that degree
Starting point is 00:07:21 we'll talk about that more here soon but if you can sign up for a study abroad program if you do have that opportunity go do it you know go pick up that extra shift go pick up that extra little job here and there go babysit go walk people's dogs go house it for a little bit save up that money buy that airplane ticket and go study abroad if you can if you're young you know maybe travel to some cheaper places that fit well within your budget Japan for me was a big dream of mine but of course like if it didn't fit into my budget it wasn't somewhere that I was going to go so I really took my time watching and waiting the thing about traveling especially outside of the country when plane tickets can be upwards of a couple thousand dollars for a basic economy where
Starting point is 00:08:09 you're squished together like sardines is you gotta play the waiting game and the long game okay i did not sit down and buy these plane tickets last month if i did yeah i would have spent a couple thousand dollars a couple thousand dollars that i just don't have to waste on plane tickets and would rather be spending on like three dollar ramen over and over and over again so at the beginning of this year i turned on like flight notifications there's a couple different apps that track flights and there was like there's sky hopper there's sky scanner i'm not going to recommend any of these because you know i think they all work very similarly so whatever works for you works for you absolutely but i like having a couple different apps to compare and contrast
Starting point is 00:08:58 because sometimes especially with flights they will give you contradicting information and even with google flights if it knows you are looking up the same flight over and over the same area over and over it'll start slowly bumping those prices because it knows you need those tickets so always look at tickets in incognito mode if you can but watch and wait it's like fishing you know you put your bait on your hook you know where you want to go you throw it in the water you're just watching waiting watching waiting and as soon as those tickets drop that's when you reel it in okay i was looking at these tickets for probably three months started looking in january i did not buy tickets until march april and that's because at the beginning of the year
Starting point is 00:09:45 and i know crazy we started having all of those like planes crashing do you guys remember this the beginning of the year when literally i don't know what it was but every single week there seemed to be just like a different story about planes crashing and that's not me trying to freak you out that's me telling you like sometimes the prices drop because of what's going on and those $1,500 tickets immediately dropped to $700 now in that moment I was like you know I have $700 I do not have $1,500 to drop this is my time you gotta get it when it's as low as it possibly can be So I got my round-trip tickets to Japan for $700. I know, insane.
Starting point is 00:10:34 I feel like that's a 2008 price, not a 2025 price. I'm so lucky to have been able to just been watching it, waiting, and was able to jump at the right moment. So when you see those tickets take a drastic drop, buy them. Now I will say, usually those cheap ass tickets come with a caveat, okay? The more expensive tickets are more expensive because of the convenience it brings you. Usually it's going to be expensive because it's like a one-way flight. You get on that plane, you land in the city, you want fantastic, it's quick, it's maybe like 8 to 12 hours, boom, bam, done.
Starting point is 00:11:15 well my travel is going to be quite nightmarish but i'm willing to go through it for the price i paid and for the experience i'm gonna have we travel for about two days to get to japan we fly out at like 6 a.m which means i have to leave my apartment at 3 a.m we fly to like i don't know maybe i think it's like las vegas or something i'm not sure we fly to like a middle city in the United States that has a bigger international airport and then we have a layover in that teeny tiny little airport for like I think seven eight hours like an entire day that we are sitting and waiting in the airport for then our international flight to go to Japan and then our international flight to Japan is about 14 hours so we have roughly a two-day travel day and girl
Starting point is 00:12:10 I can't sleep on planes I don't sleep on planes and I don't want to like medicate myself to sleep on planes because I know a girl in high school who quite literally tried to like drink and medicate herself to sleep on a plane and ended up fighting police officers and biting them and getting put on the no-fly list I'm not about to mess around with medication that I've never taken in my entire life on an airplane when I already know my anxiety is completely high and I can't eat edibles on airplanes I can't if you don't know me one of my biggest fears is uh the fear of heights I don't like heights now I understand when you get so high up in the air that it's like it just doesn't feel real you're just kind of like okay I'm locked in here but I remember where are we flying I think
Starting point is 00:12:57 we were flying from LA to Portland or something and me and my boyfriend split like a 50 milligram edible I was in that plane he was passed out of sleep like knocked out I mean that was the whole reason of eating them but I remember I was in there in the window seat looking out the window like panic attack central of course like sitting like a stone calm cool collected from the outside but the inside felt like that spongebob scene when they're all running around sitting things on fire like that's what my brain felt like I cannot eat edibles on a plane I can't do weed on a plane no I know you're not supposed to anyways but I just am not that person I'm not that girl I know I'm smokes as shoddy but I just can't do it I can't do it it makes my anxiety
Starting point is 00:13:40 so crazy so I just have to raw dog these flights and my opinion on long haul flights might be different when I come back because I've never done a 14 hour flight before but I'm excited to challenging myself I bought like three new books to read I have many things downloaded I have work to do so I think it'll fly by but like I said these tickets were so cheap because of the travel period that I think most people are not willing to do so sometimes if you are willing to you know suffer a little bit you can definitely save some money and I am one who is absolutely willing to suffer if that means i can save what 500 that i can go spend on a brand new vintage designer bag in harajuku yeah i'm saving that fucking money i'll suffer in the long run if that means that
Starting point is 00:14:32 i'm gonna you know succeed somewhere else so be smart be patient and be opportunistic now i wasn't really looking for specific dates i knew maybe in november because it'd be like past um like holiday season and also it was around the time of my boyfriend's birthday the dates just ended up working perfectly with the price range we were looking for so yeah book those bad boys ready to go now we're not going for as long as i'd like honestly if i'm gonna do an international trip i would prefer upwards of two weeks to spend there we're only doing a week just because i don't have a lot of time off and he doesn't have a lot of time off i don't want to like miss this podcast any sort of way thus the pre-recording but I do want to go out there and I want to experience
Starting point is 00:15:17 life and I want to you know try new things and thus a week is good for me I'm happy with that if I want to book longer in the future now I know not only can you like book your plane tickets on a budget but you can also travel on a budget if you're a young person who's like I just don't have a lot of money but I want to go out and see I mean travel the states the United States has some really fantastic beautiful sights like even me in Missouri in Kansas City it's undeniable like the Ozarks and getting out to nature I went on a trail ride the other day with my instructor it is just like so beautiful and lush and the foliage right now it's undeniably beautiful if you have an eye for love and beauty you will see it wherever you go so it doesn't
Starting point is 00:16:04 have to be this big cross-country trip it could be somewhere small and local as long as you're just switching up your visions and your your viewpoint it will have an effect on you and a positive one it could be two hours away three hours away it could be 14 hours away I don't care whatever matches you and your budget is what truly matters but if you do want to take that international trip you can do it on a budget and I am planning on doing it on a budget I mean I like spending my money don't get me wrong I love shopping and all that jazz but the older that I get the more I'm like is this something that I'm gonna use for the next five years and that's how I kind of think about spending when I'm traveling small trinkets small things fantastic love big
Starting point is 00:16:45 purchase big items like I'm really gonna think about those things and take my time with them and also when you're traveling to other countries the food is gonna be relatively cheaper I will say like i'm not even kidding i think a bowl of ramen here in kansas city is like 25 dollars 25 dollars are you kidding me in japan it's gonna be like four bucks at the most you know unless i go to like a michelin star restaurant so i'm gonna be saving money there no matter what as long as i avoid the random impulse purchasing and big ticket item spending and spend most of my time on my feet just moving around looking at everything I think experiences are the one thing that I will always splurge on and I was raised this way my parents growing up of course like when I was younger you
Starting point is 00:17:33 know Santa would bring presents and they would get me you know items I wanted not like everything of course but you know it's like okay you and your brother can share the we this year that's your one big present fantastic love it but the older I got the less materialistic they were I don't know my parents got real woke real fast not that they won't work they oh my god weren't woke that was a tongue twister but they got real woke real fast especially when I was in high school and they stopped doing presents all together and they were like if there are any if there are any experiences that you want to do like a small class here or you know um you like pay for your lessons pay for this we will do it if you want to take a cooking class like let's do it but no like surface level high
Starting point is 00:18:19 ticket purchases they need to be experiences and so that really changed my viewpoint on like spending on experiences versus spending on materialistic items because those experiences are things that you'll carry with you forever they're things that you will always look back on and be appreciative of but like the big ticket materialist items like oh my god those lululemon pants that are 150 you're gonna wear them for maybe a season then they're gonna sit in the back of your closet and you're never gonna think about it again that compared to 150 cooking class of your favorite item that you can now cook for yourself every single week for the rest of your life like that value is completely outweighing the lululemon pants by far and thus I'm more
Starting point is 00:19:01 willing to save and to pick up those shifts and to work a little extra harder and save that money so that I am able to go on these big trips but if you can it truly is just so transformative and so eye-opening to the world around you and I'm always looking for new ways to appreciate and explore the world so I'm so excited to see what this trip teaches me and to be able to bring that back here with you guys I just know that first couple travel days are going to be like me ripping my hair out me rolling around on the airport floor but as long as I can get through that it's going to be so amazing and I cannot wait seriously though if you are young get out travel explore see the world the world wants to be explored and seen understood and appreciated there's nobody
Starting point is 00:19:49 better to do that than you i'm really in my comfy cozy era this is a comfy cozy episode today i don't know it's been raining for the past like four days non-stop and so freaking cold i was like fucking outfit fuck makeup i'm just gonna roll up to the podcast in a big fluffy blanket it and call it a day i'm sure most of you guys listen to this these episodes in the exact same outfit so listen happy to have you here did you guys see that new vogue article that's talking about like um wait what's i gotta find the exact title is having a boyfriend embarrassing now oh my god i read this article and i'm so glad oh my god i love to see an article talk about education I love to see an article that takes over like the news by storm I hate when it's like
Starting point is 00:20:37 oh my god you see this 15 second video it's like yeah I did I laughed for a second but I love when an article hits the news it brings me hope like yes make the people read but I honestly wish it was a little bit longer I was like let's dive into this and then I was like you know what I'll just do it on the podcast I love it I feel like there's been a trend recently especially on social media talking about boyfriend aura and how you know if you aren't with a boyfriend who actually like compliments you and i don't mean in like a verbal way i mean in like a spiritual way that you start to lose aura that that person starts to take away from your aura literally and i think this can exist with anybody this can exist with friendships it can exist with
Starting point is 00:21:18 any sort of relationship that you have in your life if you associate with people who just like don't get you aren't on your level and just don't compliment you you will kind of like lose yourself a little bit? Absolutely. But especially with relationships. And it's so interesting to see everybody waking up. I love when women wake up. I do. I do. Two in five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge Change yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research. Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer.

And get Life Brand Pure Vita shampoo or conditioner for $8 each. at real canadian superstore when you're ready we're ready with a whole world and more and i've kind of always had this perspective i mean when i was younger definitely not i was definitely more like a relationship driven but growing up i was surrounded by women and i still kind of am in my like family who married for the sake of marriage and i feel like that was very
Starting point is 00:22:45 common especially up until like our generation like we are a very free generation shout out thank god but like back in the day you got married as a woman you dated as a woman because you wanted to seem good enough to be married does that make sense that you were wife quality that you were sought after enough that someone was willing to marry you or to be with you it was a status symbol it was a symbol of i'm good enough i'm loved enough you know i am such a whole well-rounded woman that somebody wants to put a ring on my finger and nowadays like the title is not enough we realize that with that title comes so many different responsibilities so many different things that we have to pick up on that at this point in time we just are not willing to pick
Starting point is 00:23:35 up on if it's not for the right person and i absolutely agree and not so in a way where it's like i don't believe in love i don't think people should be in relationships that's surface level that's lame i don't agree with that there are many of my friends who are in relationships and i love them down and they're in good relationships they're in relationships where it's like oh my god i'm actually so glad you have a boyfriend because he brings something to the table he he literally makes you a better person he shows up for you he sees you he's not just you're not just an extension of him you guys are in a relationship and you're working to better each other through this relationship and just like show up and love each other at every point and turn and second
Starting point is 00:24:13 it's amazing literally aura plus a hundred but I also see friends in relationships who are like I'm in a relationship to be in a relationship boyfriend brings nothing to the table you know he's just there and they kind of had have sex every once in a while but there's nothing that he's adding to her or uplifting her or bringing to the relationship that adds to her and thus she starts to lose herself you know she starts giving more and giving more and getting nothing in return and thus that makes you a little bit of a shell of a person you know you lose aura points and it gets a bit embarrassing nowadays the title is not enough you know being a girlfriend is easy but being a partner is hard and we are looking for partners nowadays we are looking for people who
Starting point is 00:25:02 i mean we all have different boundaries maybe you're looking for a provider maybe you're just looking for a really good lover maybe you're looking for everything and i think you should look for everything i don't think you should settle you know but i just thought it was so interesting that it's like i'm we are all recognizing this movement of women are not willing to settle for the title of wife anymore we don't just want the ring on our finger we want the relationship we want the partnership we want our quality of life to be better because when we're alone we can give ourselves everything we want that's the thing maybe and that's the thing that just like boyfriends don't get is when we are alone we can do everything for ourselves
Starting point is 00:25:41 oh i want that dinner cool i'm gonna cook it for myself or i'm gonna go out and buy it oh i want that outfit fantastic i'm gonna go get it oh i want my house to look like this great i'm gonna take my time organizing and planning and build the house that i want everything that we want for ourselves we can create for ourselves a child like bitch we're literal portals we can do anything that we want we are master manifestors we are so driven and hopeful and full of dreams that anything that we want we can create on our own solely so if someone else comes into our lives they need to not only help us create those things but they need to bring ideas and things to the table that are more than we ever could have asked for and so much better than we ever could have
Starting point is 00:26:26 asked for they understand us fully they show up for us fully it is not surface level anymore it needs to be a better life than we can give ourselves or else we're settling and sure it might take a little more patience to find these things it might take a little you know trial and error to find this person but i'm just glad that it's a conversation that we as women are having to not settle anymore and to really just like keep our eyes open and keep looking and there's not too much that you could ask for you're never being too much oh I want this and I want this cool go find it there's so many fish in the sea I don't think you should settle for somebody who does not bring more to your life that you can give to yourself do you believe in breaking up to work
Starting point is 00:27:07 on yourself and get back together in the future um I don't not believe in anything let's start there you know I don't not believe that something will ever never ever ever work out you know I have friends who have done this i i know people in my real world who have broken up and like five ten years later gotten back together but the key is here if you are gonna break up to take a break to work on yourselves it needs to be a clean split it does there is no waiting around there is no maybe one day there is no i'm not gonna date anybody and i'm just gonna wait for you that's that doesn't work that doesn't work because the other person's out fucking and sucking anything that they can get their hands on and so if you're waiting and then you want them to come back you
Starting point is 00:27:58 you are not growing as a person you're not developing as a person you're staying stagnant in hopes that the past becomes the future and that's just not how time works babe that's not how time works babe if you guys are together and you have a clean split i'm talking cut all contact truly you leave that relationship and you go straight both people go straight into focusing on themselves growing as individuals truly growing as individuals not just relationship hopping not getting out of it and immediately going back to dating like really focused on yourselves and your growth and your prosperity sure depending on how you both grow and if you both grow there is an opportunity that you could get back together in the future but i don't think that is something
Starting point is 00:28:39 that you should hang or hold on to if the universe aligns you accordingly where 10 years from now you know you are finally a ceo and he's finally owning his own business whatever the hell you guys dream of whatever you run into each other at a bar and you've both grown profusely as human beings and that spark is still there and you're both single and yet you know you see each other across the bar and your eyes catch oh my god love is in the air cool fantastic that's amazing love it very rare But I think what's most important is if you are going to break up break up clean clean break up clean split Don't hold on to those people take your time really focus on yourself and yourself completely Nobody else work towards those goals achieve those goals and sure maybe in the future
Starting point is 00:29:27 It could work out, but that's not what you need to be focused on That's not the focus babe. The focus is you all the way, especially After a breakup now, I don't think breaks work breaks don't work breaks are like the month or three months that people take off from each other to be like oh i just want to you know i just need some alone time if you need alone time from your partner you need to break up there's breaks don't work like i said someone is sucking and fucking you can't go back into that relationship after three months after that person slept with whoever you don't know you don't know you weren't in contact with them i'm a little too crazy for
Starting point is 00:30:01 that i don't do breaks you either break up or you're with the person don't hold on to those person after the breakup focus on you keep it moving forward and if it works out in the future then that those are how your cards are dealt and congratulations babe now i brought up earlier staying in school especially college and i want to elaborate on that um next episode i think i'm going to go over some of my most popular topics most popular episodes that i've had on smoke sesh and kind of revisit them to see how my opinions have changed because listen one thing about me my opinions change with the wind i could literally say something could come out of my mouth and i could literally contradict it the next second i'm just a gemini it's just who i am i can't help
Starting point is 00:30:41 myself so i think it'll be fun to visit but i have had a lot of people in my dms and just so many questions like do i drop out do i drop out of school like school's so hard and back in the day when i had recently dropped out my answer when i was young and naive would have been like yeah do whatever your heart calls to but now that i'm older my answer would be a big fat n o no do not drop out of college do not and i'm saying this very sternly and seriously as if i am your big sister because i am because i think college is so important and i think your education especially nowadays is so important and it's not something to just casually throw away because you're feeling exhausted or tired or like you're not interested there are always ways you can switch up that you
Starting point is 00:31:34 can get help that you can still succeed even just like take a break and come back to it but I do not think that you should drop out of college and here's why like let's get into it here's your dose of motivation while you're studying for your midterms for your finals like let me tell you why it is so worth it I think we nowadays yeah we're in a reading crisis we're in a literacy crisis but most importantly we are in a discipline crisis especially with just like how much we've been using our screens and how you know tiktok has really warped our brains or just short-form content has warped our brains into seeking more short-term validation and constant newness it has taught us to always look for the more exciting thing and to leave the maybe more boring thing
Starting point is 00:32:25 behind in search of a more exciting thing. But in reality, those boring things can teach you more than maybe the quicker, more exciting things actually could in your life. That seems like very vague. So let me expand a little bit more on that. College is supposed to be hard. College is supposed to be challenging. College is supposed to be probably some of the most challenging thing you've done in your life. College, getting your master's, it's all supposed to kind of push you to your wits end see how much you can do especially with trials and tribulations how much you can commit to yourself how much you can dedicate to yourself what your strength and resilience is and you don't really get that kind of understanding in the real world it is essentially yes you're
Starting point is 00:33:14 getting your degree you're learning about your degree fantastic it is not about the degree college is not about the degree it is teaching you resilience perseverance determination and strength and understanding in yourself to get through hard things and achieve long-term goals long-term goals are so important and a lot of people cannot stick to them nowadays because they've never had to they don't know how to they don't know how to discipline themselves they don't know how to and like healthily discipline you know come up with a good routine that works for them understand themselves through trials and tribulations and be able to change accordingly in the future so they're more successful and college is a 101 course on how to do that and
Starting point is 00:34:00 i think you come out of college if you take it seriously and actually like commit to it being a very well-rounded person with a degree you know you come out of college understanding what it takes to put in hard work what it takes to be disciplined in yourself what it takes to be perseverant in yourself and your dreams and it helps you become a more well-rounded adult in the future it does absolutely these are things that I've had to learn myself because I did drop out with like one year left of college and I do I would like to state that like although I dropped out and I am successful now I am an anomaly I really am I don't know how I got here I am very very thankful to have been here and like be here currently and be able to be creative and make
Starting point is 00:34:51 money and be successful off of it but this is an anomaly and this is not something that i really ever thought would happen i mean thanks to you guys big shout out big ups to you like thank you for being here every week and listening that's why i show up even when i'm on vacation every week for you guys i do not ever take this for granted because i understand it just how rare and special it is and i think with the rise of whole like influencer culture and just becoming so obsessed with social media um sometimes it gets painted painted out to be like oh yeah drop out start making videos you're gonna make a hundred thousand dollars in a year that's just not how it is it really really isn't and I do not recommend anybody doing that I was out shopping for my nephew for
Starting point is 00:35:40 his birthday literally in the target aisles and I'm like why is there a wooden block influencer kit for ages three to six that breaks my heart we do we do not need more influencers I fear we do not because like you should be your own biggest influence absolutely but also I think it's kind of just like a cop-out there's more important things that you could be doing in this life that's even something I struggle with as well where it's like I don't want to be an influencer I want to be here I want to be able to inspire something in people I think that is my purpose as well as be creative and maybe like start a brand in the future but I think we see so much of it and especially being somebody who also like consumes social media I see a lot of content
Starting point is 00:36:24 creators and when you see something so much it seems like something that is so prevalent and opportunistic but really it is very difficult to even get to the level of the influencers that i'm watching on tiktok or instagram it is insane to get to those levels especially nowadays and i hate seeing people throw away their wasted potential and their dedication to themselves for short-term satisfaction whether it's um i'm dropping out because i just don't want to do it anymore i'm tired i get that you know if you're struggling with mental health things i also get that absolutely like get help if you need but if it's just because it's hard or you don't want to do it or you want to live an easier life the funny thing is getting through college will teach you how to
Starting point is 00:37:08 live an easier life better than dropping out ever could learning that discipline and learning to be like strong inside yourself will teach you how to have an easier life in the future than dropping out right now ever could and honestly dropping out is one of my biggest mistakes do i think i would have used my art degree at this point in time in my life no probably not but I do regret not pushing myself to achieve the things that I wanted to achieve and simply complete tasks it breaks my heart that I did not complete that task in my life and I don't have the degree for to show for it I think college brought me so much understanding in myself it taught me hard work it taught me about new things things that I would have never learned about it pushed me out of my
Starting point is 00:37:53 comfort zone it pushed my boundaries a little bit in a very healthy way it taught me how to handle conflict how to fight for myself how to stand up for myself how to advocate for myself and these are things that you can learn in the real world but it's much easier to learn in a college setting that it is in the real world it's also very hard to stay dedicated to yourself when you drop out of college and you don't know what you want to do if you do not have a very clear path of what you're going to do within the next five years and how you're going to achieve those things then you should stay in college because i do see a lot of people and this comes with people who are my peers who drop out of college oh you know it's the degree i didn't want to get i didn't want to do
Starting point is 00:38:35 it anymore so i drop out and now they're doing the same thing that they've been doing since they dropped out because they didn't have a plan they don't have any idea of what they want to do whereas college will teach you how to navigate those things most people don't like the degrees that they're doing they realize oh you know actually i really enjoy this anthropology class that i was forced to take i didn't know i would be interested in these things cool let me switch it up let me start studying anthropology let me get into that side of things but you would have never learned those things if you didn't put yourself into those situations and just like adjust accordingly you know sure you can learn them in the real world but if you have the
Starting point is 00:39:13 opportunity and i understand it's not an opportunity that everybody gets and i know taking out those loans is a very big risk listen I'm still paying off those student loans I get you but if you have the opportunity to be in college if you are listening and you find yourself in an academic environment and you are like I don't think I should keep doing this this is me telling you you should you really should if the degree is not what you want to do okay switch it up try something new but I do think that the learned experience that you get from college is something that you just simply will never get in the real world and it is not worth throwing away absolutely and I know this because I did throw it away and thus I'm coming from a perspective that I don't
Starting point is 00:39:57 want any of you guys to be in where it's like damn I wish I would have just done that you know and I think about it every day where it's like maybe I will go back to college absolutely but like I said if you find yourself privileged enough to be in an academic environment a higher academic environment stick to it stick to yourself switch up what you do have control over but keep persevering and pushing and stay dedicated to yourself because i don't think it's some i don't think those are lessons that are very easy to learn in the real world and they're not easy to teach yourself but if you're out there and you're studying and you're listening to this in the library get to work you got this i believe in you all this hard work will pay off it'll be so
Starting point is 00:40:36 worth it absolutely stick beside yourself stay strong in yourself keep learning keep growing those brain cells because my god we need them we need them now more than ever we need educated people please i'm begging i'm begging i'm begging anyways i guess speaking of dropping out someone said help how do i stop being lazy so if you didn't hear about my like winter plans um it basically is just me teaching myself how to be more dedicated and less lazy um and so basically like my hibernation my winter routine is that of like resilience being structured and following through with that structure every single day now if you are someone who's lazy who it's like when i have a task because i'm i'm a very special kind of lazy where it's like sure i don't want to
Starting point is 00:41:31 do things I mean period period period girl if I could be in bed all day sleeping I would I don't have time for that it's not a way we want to live life but I'm a special kind of lazy where I become avoidant where if I know I need to do something there's some like weird little brain worm I have where it's like I know you have to do it so I don't want to do it at all maybe it's because I'm a brat I have a little bit of like a brat tendency where it's like oh but if it's not what I want to do right now that I don't want to do it. And that really is elevated when it comes to tasks or things that just like don't fit in with like my ideal life. Oh, it's not self-care. So I don't want to do it right now. It's going to the gym, but I'm tired. I don't want to do it right
Starting point is 00:42:17 now. The thing is, you can't let your brain win. You can't. Your brain is always going to fight you no matter what I mean at least for me personally because mental illness hello I my it's me versus my brain constantly but the last thing I'm gonna do is let that battle with my brain win so if you feel like you've let your brain win too many times you know you've been a bit avoidant you have been a bit lazy you haven't been achieving the things you want to achieve you know you have that simple little assignment that you need to do but for some reason you just can't get it done or you have to make a call to the doctors but for some reason you can't get it done here's what you do to kind of restructure your brain and get back on track first of all you
Starting point is 00:42:58 gotta start small you gotta start small little things little things that build resilience and rebuild like dedication to self so then you're able to work up to maybe bigger things I'm trying to think of like the smallest thing okay so like um showering depending on how depressed and lazy you are it's like okay we're gonna start with I need to shower every single day I need to brush my teeth and shower every single day okay and when I get out of the shower I need to make sure I'm combing my hair I'm putting on moisturizer I need to make sure I'm taking care of my body now that's like very simple so maybe you're outside of that you're like no I have that down I have a good routine down it's just like assignments and things like that okay so let's start with sure assignments
Starting point is 00:43:43 are a great option one by one maybe you do one a day until you catch up but also simple things like I want to challenge myself to drink this amount of water a day I'm not drinking enough water I want to make sure I'm drinking enough water every single day or I want to challenge myself to you know eat healthily every single day if I can for just this week start with one week doing a simple task like that that you know is good for you that you know is very easy to achieve it's not like super challenging but it is a challenge in itself because it's new it'll teach your brain to get used to that resilience to get used to a pattern of behavior to get over that hump of I don't want to do it and then you're able to kind of like keep that ball rolling into bigger more harder
Starting point is 00:44:33 more avoidant things such as like going to the gym every single day that's hard to get into right especially if you've never done it before and you have like no resilience starting small will then be able to steamroll into okay I know how to get over that mental block now I'm gonna start doing something bigger I'm gonna read a chapter of a book every single day I'm gonna start going to the gym every single day I'm gonna make sure that all my assignments are done before I go to my dorm room every single day little things like that it starts to build up but starting with the big things I think is sometimes setting yourself up for failure because I mean you're already not doing the big things you know you're already not doing them why would you think now it's randomly
Starting point is 00:45:18 going to turn you got to start small work your way up retrain your brain retrain your thinking in a very malleable easy setting so then you're able to implement the lessons that you learned in that moment on bigger and harder things you can work against your brain your brain works for you not the other way around okay sometimes it takes a little bit of training it's like with toddlers or dogs you know you're not gonna let your dog like pee and poop all over the place it's like okay pause like let's restart this whole situation let's make sure we're going on walks every single day you know let's make sure maybe we have a bell at the door we train the dog to ring the bell when he needs to go outside whatever it is it's like you can work with your brain in that same sort of
Starting point is 00:46:00 way you just have to be willing to do so and starting small opens the doors to bigger things So start with a small challenge. Start with one week, something simple. Oh, I'm going to journal every morning. Oh, I'm going to read a chapter every single day. I'm going to make sure I'm drinking this much water every single day. I'm going to make sure I'm eating healthy every single day. Start with one week. You'll be surprised what it spirals into and what you have the dedication and energy to achieve week two. I guess speaking of being lazy someone asked how do you have the energy to cook at the end of the day I'm so exhausted when I get off work a object in motion stays in motion especially this is me with like my ADHD when I get the ball rolling I gotta keep rolling I have to there is no little breaks throughout the day once I take a break my brain is automatically in oh we're in rest and relax mode and it's hard to get out of rest and relax mode okay it's hard to get into go mode it's hard to get out of rest and relax mode once you hit that get up and go and work and do those
Starting point is 00:47:06 things go mode you gotta stay there until you get those things done okay I'm not even kidding sometimes I will get off work or I'll get off a big errand day whatever it is like I'm outside I'm moving I'm grooving I'm doing so many different things I come home it's I don't know sometimes i get off horseback riding lessons it's like 6 7 p.m i could go buy a 20 dinner or i have groceries in my fridge that i could cook cool fantastic i'm gonna take off my boots i'm gonna leave everything else on i'm gonna go straight to the kitchen i'm gonna start cooking in those fucking work clothes i am literally i'm gonna start cooking i mean hands washed duh but like i'm gonna start cooking i'm gonna get everything going on the stove i'm gonna go shower i'm gonna
Starting point is 00:47:47 go change to something comfy bam dinner's ready i eat dinner now i'm in relax mode okay it really is that object in motion stays in motion you have to keep it keep it moving keep that energy going because i know you're exhausted i know you're tired but as soon as you sit down you open that phone you let yourself relax a little bit you are now in relaxation mode and yet you're not gonna feel like getting up and cooking or getting up and doing anything this comes for any sort of chore that you have to do once you get off work getting up and doing the laundry doing the dishes cooking cleaning whatever it is if you stop that object in motion it's going to be really hard to get it going again so keep the ball rolling all right yeah being an adult is exhausting having
Starting point is 00:48:34 chores having things to do is exhausting i get it but also like what comes out of that at the end of the day oh I have to cook dinner fantastic now I get a really yummy meal oh you know I have to do dishes well that's because I was able to enjoy a really yummy meal that I cooked for myself oh I have to do laundry oh how thankful am I to be able to have a washing machine that is able to wash my clothes and have clothes that I enjoy wearing and have this many clothes that I have to do laundry this many times oh I hate vacuuming and I hate dusting well how thankful am I to have a head or a roof over my head and you know walls around me that protect me and keep me warm switch the perspective keep the object in motion keep rolling forward you'll get it done you will and
Starting point is 00:49:19 you will have rest time don't worry sometimes it feels like at the end of the day like oh my god i'm exhausted i don't want to do anything you know the thing is like i will eventually have that rest time i will be able to sleep i will get my eight hours i will be able to scroll on my phone for like an hour before bed don't worry you will have that rest relaxation time but what do we need to get done before that you know and how can we achieve that and how can we keep the ball rolling literally no breaks bus club another club someone said i miss weed but now i'm an alcoholic which is worse oh girl i fear alcohol is way worse than anything else on this planet i know i know and i know this from experience hello i'm i've had plenty of alcohol in my life duh but alcohol is
Starting point is 00:50:03 very devilish it really is not me becoming like newfound christian hello no but like it it is devilish if you really think about it like sure there is a romance of it all like i think if you really take your time and get into the artistry of alcohol then there's a way that you can approach that is very healthy my dad does this where he's like no i just want to have like a two ounce pour of whiskey at the end of the day exactly how i want it but also i'm not just drinking any whiskey i can get my hands on he's like going to distilleries and learning about the process and vetting different companies and taking his time and investing in quality bourbon and taking his time to you know on how he creates his drink it's art to him and he's not having eight of them at
Starting point is 00:50:54 the end of the day he's just having one now me and my mom have the alcohol alcoholic gene where we're like no box of wine that has four liters of wine in it and we're gonna have like eight glasses that's not artistry that's alcoholism and that's when it becomes like oh very very bad for you you know what i mean i'm out of that phase in my life but like alcohol will make you feel worse about yourself about the world around you and do stupid things more stupid things than weed will ever make you do i feel like weed if i get too high because there's such thing as too high there's such thing as too drunk you know when i'm too high i kind of become just like i mean mega anxious but i kind of just like knock out you know like i either am like mega anxious and sitting here like a statue just
Starting point is 00:51:45 like in my head like the demons are in my head sure but I'm not creating the demons in the real world you know I'm not becoming a demon I'm just fighting them in my head or I'm going to bed now when it comes to alcohol you become the demon you do you have too many drinks I'm talking too many drinks you make mistakes that you never would have made you say things that you would never say in your right mind you cause problems you become a nuisance like too much alcohol is always a bad thing and so in my opinion if you're gonna weigh the two I will always say weed over alcohol for sure I mean no substances is ideal and I am planning on doing a dry January where I'm dry from everything I know we'll see we'll see but also a big challenge in my overall like winter
Starting point is 00:52:33 arc and hibernation routine is to get rid of alcohol I do not see any sort of benefit from it other than the artistry of it and I have yet to learn the artistry of it or to get into the artistry of it now is not the time to do so I think I need to go cold turkey before I do any of that but yeah if I had to pick the lesser of two evils between the two I would say weed all the way absolutely I've made enough mistakes on alcohol that I know it's not good for you and if you're young you'll get it out of your system seriously you'll have enough moments where you're like and now I'm over it you know I think that's a not a natural iteration of getting older where you're just like uh you know at first when you turn 21 you're like oh I can buy alcohol exciting
Starting point is 00:53:19 and then you're kind of like well now I'm over it that's the healthy growth past it but I also see people my age who are like no now alcohol is the only thing that I look forward to it's the only time I feel like I can be myself I'm using it to escape the world around me I feel like I have to drink because now I've incorporated it into my routine. That's not where you want to get. You don't want to have to do that. How do you get the it girl effect? Is it confidence or something you're born with? Ooh, hmm. Let's see. I'm not going to come from a perspective of me because hello, whatever, but I will come from the perspective of my it girls. Okay. My ideal it girls confidence are born with genuinely i think it's both like honestly i think it is a
Starting point is 00:54:09 little bit of both and i think everybody is born with the it girl it guy it they them factor genuinely i think everybody is born with that quality because we are born truly and honestly into ourselves it's society that warps us into trying to be other people trying to conform trying to dole ourselves down where you lose that star quality the it girl is simply being them like genuinely just being themselves wholeheartedly honestly truthfully they're just being themselves now to be yourself you have to have an air of confidence there's got to be a little confidence there i mean let's be honest especially nowadays when i mean society wants you to be everything but yourself to be yourself you have to have a little bit of confidence and
Starting point is 00:55:06 just like trust in yourself I think confidence comes from like I said trusting yourself whether you faced hardships and knew you could get through it helping yourself through those things helping yourself through challenges bringing new exciting things into your world just standing tall beside yourself builds confidence and also just not denying yourself of who you are builds confidence but I do think that it girl star quality is simply people being themselves no matter what no matter if it goes against the status quo goes with it they're not focused on the outside realm they're focused on their inside worlds and how they feel okay who are some it girls of our era okay so let's talk like maybe Emma Chamberlain Emma Chamberlain I mean it girl she blew up on
Starting point is 00:55:52 YouTube because she was just confidently herself she showed up authentically as herself and was creative she was a creative individual she edited in a way that most people didn't edit I'm sure she might have been doing something in the grand scheme of things that seems boring such as making coffee but she was so honestly and authentically herself that there was an undeniable charm to it now she has completely evolved and I think evolution is important but she's completely involved into this star girl okay in the fashion world and her ideas her perception of herself how she presents herself how she styles herself is something that i've never seen before but it's something that is so authentically her that it is undeniably eye-catching it is undeniably inspiring
Starting point is 00:56:43 it is undeniably transfixing like you see her walk down the street or you see a photo of her and you're like wow whether it's a style that i enjoy or not personally it is just has that star factor that wow factor that it girl factor period and that's because she knows who she is she shows up as who she is she challenges herself in ways that maybe we aren't brave enough to challenge herself she puts herself out there she's more focused on her inner world and how she feels than how the outside world is going to react to her now she's maybe more in a alternative sense let's let's look at things in a more um societal accepted sense because i think there can also be it girls that fit the status quo like i don't think you need to stand out out of the status
Starting point is 00:57:29 quo to be an it girl i think most humans will but think um i think nara smith she is an it girl you know she's a popular person she's a popular social media identity and a lot of the things that she is doing is very societally conforming um you know having 18 babies or whatever cooking things from scratch cooking bubble gum from scratch in her kitchen that is just so beautiful in a ball gown just weeks after giving birth like she is undeniably just like gorgeous obviously talented she has that star girl it girl factor even though it is a societal societally agreed upon or more accepted in how she behaves the thing is it works it's not just a sellout it's not just like oh I'm doing this because this is what people want to see because it's her this is her it's her
Starting point is 00:58:25 sure you know there's some like eye-catching things that maybe are a little bit more for views than others I mean alternative it girls do the same exact thing things that are controversial things that maybe are a little bit more out of the status quo but she still has that it girl factor because she's herself she wants to have those babies she wants to be in love she wants to be in that kitchen she wants to be creating she wants to be cooking these are things that she is passionate about and she follows her passion she follows who she is she doesn't care if it's the status quo it just happens to do so that's what it is we are all born with that it girl factor we are all born with that star quality what kills that star quality is running from
Starting point is 00:59:08 ourselves is denying ourselves of who we are is not listening to ourselves is not cultivating that inner world if you are not happy on the inside you can't be happy on the outside and you can't base your happiness on what other people think of you because it's such a surface level way to live it's not sustainable the it girls of this generation are truly just being themselves they don't really give a fuck they just know that they are happy with who they are and that's all that matters they show up confidently in who they are they show up comfortably in who they are and that is truly enough so sorry if this is a bit of a shorter episode like I said I'm pre-recording for the next two weeks so I'm trying to save some really good topics for next week as well so I'm
