Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, everybody. I'm on the road. Spokane, Washington. You're up next. August 20th through the 22nd, doing five shows at Spokane Comedy Club and Spokane, Washington. I love that club. I was out there last year, and this year I'm going to be back with some new, some very new jokes. And maybe a couple from the last hour that you liked. Regardless, August 20th through August 22nd, Spokane Comedy Club and Spokane, Washington, Dan Soder.com for tickets. Empire Comedy Comedy, Club. I'm going to be there in Portland, September 10th through the 12th. I'm going to be at Empire Comedy Club in Portland, Maine, Dan Soder.com for tickets. Those are the dates. All my dates are at Dan Soder.com. Go there to see where I'll be until the end of the year because we've got it all mapped out. And thanks for watching the episode. I hope you guys enjoy it. This is awesome because first off, REL I haven't seen you in fucking years. It's been forever. It's been forever. Which I've been watching all the specials and all that shit since.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Yeah, dude, I watched. We did an HBO special the same year. You did from that high school in Compton, which had to have been. I always wanted to ask you about filming that because you filmed it at sundown. Like the sun was going down. We shot it so the sun could come down while I was on stage. Let me just ask you. Yeah, it was who?
Starting point is 00:01:23 Girard's idea? That sounds like a Gerard idea because it sounds extremely difficult to replicate more than once. Because he was like, how did you, what did you do for the other show? You're just like, we have to wait for sundown and then like, no, we just, we didn't, it wasn't time. So wherever it went. But for me, a lot of my specials, I've like, I'll pick a show. Yeah. So I don't even necessarily combine both shows.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Really? You don't use any edits or anything? No, I'd be like, nope. First show. Damn. You don't Frankenstein anything? Nope. Not even, sometimes I just filmed going, we're starting to edit my Netflix special and I'll be like,
Starting point is 00:01:56 I completely missed a word. I'll just be like, Hub, da, do, do, do. And I'm like, I need that second show. So the last special I taped the one I did on my own. I only did one show. And when I taped this. That's too much pressure.
Starting point is 00:02:10 It's not. It's what you do. I know it is, but I also. I think it's more pressure when somebody's like, do another show. And it's like, no. Go through all that material again. Yeah, I know. Going through the material again, it does suck.
Starting point is 00:02:23 It is a slog going through it. But there is a feeling of one show where you go. If this fucking doesn't go well. Whoever comes to my second show usually get a regular comedy show. Really? So you do the first one is like the performance. I'm just getting it is.
Starting point is 00:02:37 I do it like almost like it's my first nut of the night where the second one I'm going to be smoother on it. So I'm like, my second show, I'm kind of like, that can go as long as you want to go. The first one I'm like, you look so beautiful.
Starting point is 00:02:49 I'm like excited about the lights and shit. That's funny, yo. Yeah. I always worry. First one, I'm always like, and then the second one, I'm like smoking a cigarette. I'd be wanting to get that shit
Starting point is 00:02:59 Yeah, I'm being like, you guys want to talk about my dog? Cool, I got some dog material. I got some dog material. I remember the first hour I had, you know, Kevin Hart had produced. We was arguing about this. Like, real, you got to do two shows. I'm like, nigga, I don't want to do two shows. I want to just do one show.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Well, you got to do two shows. Yeah. And then I'm like, it's probably going to be the first show. We'll see. And then we shot it. And he was like, it was the first show. You got it this time. Like, yeah, I know, I know me.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Like I like to do my all my energy the excitement is in that first show I know people to do like six shows Yeah that's crazy Because by the six one you just go like Then I walk out six I'm not gonna lie I think if I walked out it open with that That might crack Is this the way you said it
Starting point is 00:03:48 You guys ever have six Just lean into it Carlos it's great to meet you make You're fucking hilarious Thank you I appreciate I've known real forever but I've just been a fan of yours 85 style show fucking rules you DC and Chico are fucking so funny man this is one of those clips where you're like they they did it they replicated
Starting point is 00:04:08 hanging out with your friend in the fucking living room yeah and just kicking it so I watch those shows and I'm always like this is fun as hell yeah man I was just watched the episode you did with Will Sassau oh yeah with on Chris Van Vile yeah Chris is dude what's crazy about meeting Will Sassos that's one of those like come out of the TV moments where I watched him on Mad TV. I've been a fan of his. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Doing Kenny Rogers. Yeah. And then all the shit that he used to do, what he would do, like you forget, he did the Sopranos. He did like a perfect guy. He's one of the most underrated sketch, whatever, ever. I think you can go off Mad TV and pick like four that you're like, if they would have played in the league, if they would have gone to S&L,
Starting point is 00:04:53 like Frank Allendeo. He was dope. He does everybody perfect. And the guy that plays Stewart, too. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Fuck, what's his? Michael McDonald. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Is this name Michael McDonald? That's so funny if he's, Michael McDonald's. You got him. Who about a birthday? Yeah, dude, if he's got, if he is the bloodhound of yacht rock. Oh. It is Michael McDonald. And the Asian lady, they play Lois.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Oh. Look like a man. Yeah, she does Miss. Miss Swan. Miss Swan. Alex Borstein. Yeah. She had to.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Matt TV really had to. She was on, what's the hit show that was on AMC? She ended up winning awards for that. Not too long ago. Mrs. Maisel. Mrs. Ms. Maisel. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:37 I know what you're talking about. Those motherfuckers auditioned me like 40 times in a way that I was like, is this a bit? Who? The Miss Maisel show. For real? Yeah, because I got, I got 1940s white dude face. Look at me. They'd bring me in and I couldn't be like, well, there's a wall going on.
Starting point is 00:05:53 But they would call me and be like, we need you to audition on set. right now. I'm going to do my serious sex-sum show. Like they would call me in a weird way that I'd be like, I don't think, I think you guys are fucking with me. Phil Lamar? Yeah. The black dude, Phil Lamar. He did a lot of.
Starting point is 00:06:11 He did a lot of cartoon voices. Like, a lot of cartoon shows. Man, him doing Rick James. Yeah. So funny. Yeah. It wasn't even like it was a great Rick James, but it was good enough. It's one of those ones if you get a couple of the inflections. Yeah. All those historical things, if you get like a
Starting point is 00:06:27 sentence or two and it sounds right you go oh that sounds exactly like them people slept on their original characters though that that that that that that that that that kini rogers that will did was insane yeah it was insane well it's like it was like a it's like i think people got so good at mimicking voices now that if you don't like j pharaoh body it just where it's completely perfect people go and you go no back in the day they would kind of do like an inflection or one or two sentences you're like that that is i can see that being kentia is supposed to be a parody though yeah yeah dude my kennie rogers story i met the real kennie rogers really i used to work concert security when i was like 17 in denver and i worked at the back lot like letting in the people
Starting point is 00:07:08 but i had to see their lanyard they had to that was like the only thing i knew i had to do was like you need to show me your lanyard you didn't just little fucking caesar cut and my fucking jeet shorts me like yellow t-shirt on being like i need to see your lanyard and then this uh this like expedition rolls up right and the driver's like i don't have to have a lanyard. And I was like, I can't let you in if you don't have a lanyard. And the passenger seats, like, laid down.
Starting point is 00:07:32 And then the passenger seat sits up. And he goes, I'm Kenny Rogers. And he was just, Kenny Rogers. And I was like, holy shit, you are Kenny Rogers. Go ahead. You seen the way he fucking popped up was so funny. He got a house for Atlanta. A house in Atlanta is for sale that shaped like a guitar.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Who's gonna buy that? Nobody can afford it. And it's like, it's like 80s fly. I think it's probably like $4 million or something But the only a lawyer is shaped like a guitar. You would have to, selling your wife on the idea of buying a guitar shaped house, you go,
Starting point is 00:08:05 I spent four million. Now, you know I can't sing, but you know I like music. It's a guitar. Like, Selling Lowe selling her on it. I didn't want to say it,
Starting point is 00:08:15 but she shows up. It's Kenny Rogers. That, if that didn't get a pop-up, I'd divorce her immediately. That's also, you wonder why Prince didn't make a house like that. Well,
Starting point is 00:08:24 because he was, you ever seen Rick James's house in Buffalo? Mm-mm. at like the height of his fame, it's fucking wild. It's just like a suburban house. It's just like a suburban house that he had like everything finished on site.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Can you Google it? Because it's so funny. I want to know that. That's where Eddie Murphy was snowed in. It snowed in, right? And made a party all the time. With at Rick James' house in Buffalo. But when you see it, you go like,
Starting point is 00:08:48 yeah, there's another one. That's like, I think, his older one. I'm trying to, there's like one from the 80s. But even this one isn't even like that crazy. You know what I mean? You imagine. You thought it would be. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:59 You know, Rick James's house. I thought it would be like a lady's leg. Yeah. Like a lady's leg or something. Titties. Like the titty shit. The house. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:10 He goes, my guest, my master bedroom's the left nipple. It's the left ariola. Yeah. Because people in the 80s were building houses that didn't age well. Yeah. Mm. You know what I mean? Damn.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Yeah. That was like the real custom your house shit where people go, they weren't thinking about reselling. Yeah. You see all those houses. house is like half of his underground and shit. You've seen those? Or you go down and you go, indoor pool in this house doesn't work. With carpet around it.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Some fucking 80s shit. They're like Barry Gordy. So, you know, our movie, we shot it at Barry Gordy's first mansion. No way. In Detroit. Wait, really? Yeah. So the movie, Haunted Heist in theaters now.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Go check it out. These two, Tiffany Haddish, Andrew Batchelor. You might know him is King Bach. stacked cast and filmed in Detroit. That probably place was haunted because the way he ripped people off of those contracts. He's the second person. I don't think he did.
Starting point is 00:10:08 You don't think he ripped off people? Because nobody really said anything about Barry Gordon. Everybody else has caught it over the years. He's old enough where this is a good tiny black man. Barry Gordy played me. I'll tell you what. There's some dudes that caught it old that surprise me. Specifically, Hugh Hefner, I kind of knew,
Starting point is 00:10:26 but then they did that series and I was like oh this is way worse and then now they're waiting until he died though yeah Bob Barker they're busting out
Starting point is 00:10:34 now all the racist evidence that you've never hugged black contestants right it's crazy you see what it's like you know what it feels like like when you watch kids
Starting point is 00:10:46 play flag football and they go to Bob Barker was hitting the flag football I didn't even until they pointed it out it was like oh my God you see it and you go
Starting point is 00:10:55 oh fuck man He told one lady, don't. He really didn't have the like, just like playing tag, and you just barely don't get that. But Barry Gordy, you're right. Barry Gordy never caught it, but you,
Starting point is 00:11:10 you can, a quick Google will show you, Barry Gordy had some fucked up contracts. Like that, because that was what, and by the way, that's what everyone did back then, Sun Records.
Starting point is 00:11:20 But you know what's funny about, I think Barry Gordy, if you called him, he'd be like, you got me. That's what I mean. That's like that old school. He'd be like, all right, well, here you go.
Starting point is 00:11:29 That's the kind of corruption we need. Bring that back. Yeah. It's just, dude's going like this. You got me. What do we got to do to make this right? Dude, I think we should title it the, what do we got to do to make this right law? Where do they go, if you call out corruption and they got you, they go, what do we got to make this right?
Starting point is 00:11:48 That's like, bye guys. Or they compliment your intelligence. They go, you're a smart guy. You saw all that. But Barry Gordy had contracts where they couldn't, like once you left Motown, you couldn't record anywhere else. Anywhere else. That's not true, though. Or, I'm going to Google it because even your songs.
Starting point is 00:12:07 The Jackson did it? Yeah, but you think Joe Jackson. They were like his nephews, though. Yeah, and you think Joe Jackson is not going to let. Joe Jackson. Joe's like, look here, man. He shut the door. Barry goes, Jackson, five, I haven't gone anywhere.
Starting point is 00:12:21 He shut the door. He's like, let's have a conversation, Barry. Because Joe Jackson probably fucked his shit up. That's what I think that's a lot of this, the Michael Drusky did that hilarious sketch of the biopic about Joe Jackson. Yeah, yeah. But in those days, if you were on a record label,
Starting point is 00:12:37 you had to have a dad that was going to like beat this shit out of people. Yeah, somebody who can go in their room and say, what do we got to do that? That's what I mean. Like, you know. Or he takes some slick shit like, well, you know, we cannot leave or you can not leave. You can not leave. I can show everybody your books.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Yeah, that's a great one. You got the books. And he goes, you son of a bitch, you go blow this whole thing up. And he goes, or they give them options. Option one. Option one, we sit here and we have a nice conversation. Option two. I show them the books.
Starting point is 00:13:08 You can give me $4 million. We leaving. Or you leave. Yeah, we need to, let's bring back old school corruption. Then you got to throw the cherry on top. Yeah. The choice is yours. I leave it in your.
Starting point is 00:13:25 your hands. Yeah, that really is fucking... I know you do the right thing, beer. I knew you do
Starting point is 00:13:31 the right thing. You know what I was saying? I was saying this on stage this weekend, but the over, the two happy
Starting point is 00:13:37 handshake. Yeah. Where they're grabbing both of the game. And they're like, you sure didn't make the right
Starting point is 00:13:44 choice. I wanted to, like, sell a house. That's like a haunted house. When you sold someone,
Starting point is 00:13:50 you get one of those handshakes. Oh, boy, you sure won't regret this. Man, that house was Crazy, though.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Yeah. It's a lot of... How long did you guys have it for? It's a lot of memorabilia in there. It's like not in the museum. Yeah. No, the guy who bought it kept basically everything. It's like Barry Gordy just left.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Like, he's just like, look, I'm done with the joint. He just left. Toss the keys to somewhere. Yeah. I'm getting in an apartment of Miami. This is the fuck out of here. The furnace is still, the furnace you had, we said this earlier, that you have to build the house around is dead.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Damn. That meant it was going to work forever. He had a fucking tunnel that's like 200 feet long. Where'd it go? From the pool house to the main house. So when you guys write this movie, right, and you know you're going to film it in a haunted house, at what point does it become Barry Gordy's
Starting point is 00:14:38 fucking left behind mansion? It would be cool if you guys caught the glow. If you found out that was where the last dragon, the whole thing came from. And you go, you go, Carlos, take a look at this. It's like an emulet. And you're like, you got that girl. You feel the problem.
Starting point is 00:14:54 You start doing that. The power for animation. That's a lot. We do a long. Taymark shows up. We do a long road trip. As I get older, it's pretty obvious I should have learned a second language. I think it was for a while.
Starting point is 00:15:10 I was just shading it being like, no, dude, I don't want to learn that. Well, this is America. But now that I'm traveling, I'm like, damn, I should know one of the romantic languages, whether it be French, Spanish, or Italian. I should know one of them. And even if I have just 10 minutes a day, that's where Babel helps out. Babel can help you start having real conversations
Starting point is 00:15:30 in as little as three weeks. Instead of them making you memorize random vocabulary, you learn phrases you use, ordering dinner, asking for directions, or talking with locals. Talking with the locals, you know. No more than two phrases. Because I feel like if you just have two phrases,
Starting point is 00:15:45 locals are going to be like, what is the guy talking about? But I like Babel because it's built for real life. Like I said, it's not just vocabulary lessons. Lessons are quick, practical, and they're built by more than 200, language experts. And unlike cramming before a trip, Babel fits it into your actual schedule. So if you're just, you know, riding to work, or you're at work, or you're at lunch, you can just
Starting point is 00:16:07 pop in a Babel lesson and start learning Spanish right there. Babel's award-winning app has sold over 25 million subscription instance and is backed by a 14-day money-back guarantee. So if you got some travel coming up, now's the time to start so you can actually use what you learn on the trip. Right now, Babel is offering listeners up to 60% off. Go to babble.com slash soda. That's Babel, B-A-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-E-L.com slash soda for up to 60% off. Rules and restrictions may apply. This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp.
Starting point is 00:16:40 I can't praise therapy enough. I think my life is a lot better because of therapy. I think my relationships are a lot better because of therapy. I think I'm a lot better dog owner because of therapy. When you talk to someone, it helps them get in your brain and fix it. the problems. Don't think of it like, oh, it's a shrink or blah, blah, blah. It's a brain mechanic, dude. If your engine is like a Porsche engine, it's like a big muscle, it's like a muscle car, you know, like a 60s Mustang. And then sometimes it goes wrong. It's like, you wouldn't just drive your car
Starting point is 00:17:13 around if stuff was going on. Go to a mechanic. Go talk to a therapist. If you find a therapist you like, well, then you have it and you build from there. More than six million people have use better help globally. The consistent feedback from real users makes it easy to see why so many people choose better help. Because better help helps you find a therapist, book a therapist, change therapists. All you have to do is go to betterhelp.com and see what they can help with their better help. It's in the name. See the reviews, see what stands out, and see if better help is right for you. Visit better. Visit betterhelp.com slash soda. That's better help. H-E-L-P-L-P-E-L-L-P. We do usually a real long road trip in Christmas
Starting point is 00:17:58 and we drive to Chicago to see her family and then we drive to Denver to see my family. Yeah, you know, so we're not supposed to do your podcast but you had a road trip. Yeah, I was in. That's what it was. Yeah, it was a real thing, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:08 It's like three weeks. It's fun as hell. We drive across the country. Oh, no, you're supposed to do my show. That's what it was. I was trying to get you by show here. And I was driving out. But I'll put the iPhone on random.
Starting point is 00:18:17 And I got Barry Gordy's the last dragon soundtrack on my phone, obviously. and her hearing the glow song for the first time, she was like, what is this? And then knowing every, you get the glow, you got the glow. And she was like, you know this. And I was like, you don't know the last drag. Willie Hutch, man.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Is that who did it? Willie Hutch, that dude is a legend, man. One of the best songs ever made, man. It is. But he made songs for all tight, like, he made some of the greatest, like, for the movie to Mac, right? All those, I choose you, all that. He did the whole soundtrack.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Yeah. And he did that for the, like, was he signed him? Well, if he was, I don't know. But he's one of those people that died rich. I do know, because I'm a Willie Hutch fan, so I like, I dove into him. I'm like, who do I like, what's that? Three Sixth Mafia remade a lot of his songs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Really? A lot of his music. A lot of his update, yeah. That's funny. Hey, what's going on? This is Willie Hutch from the Mac. Yeah. That's a cool ass, but those songs are iconic.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Like, if you watch Last Dragon, you know that whole soundtrack. You got the glow to glow to glow, the glow to glow to glow. You got the glow. You get it. You ain't my brother. You're just a sucker He looked old at it But he looked old at it
Starting point is 00:19:26 Once they tear back Right There's a There is a They better not remake that There it's like They come up And they have these ideas
Starting point is 00:19:35 To remake these classic movies That's one that doesn't need to be touched Last Dragon Perfectly encapsulates The 80s martial arts madness That was in the United States The only way you could remake that If I'm honest
Starting point is 00:19:48 You got a Cobra Coyet Oh take it from the show enough perspective. Not just from the show enough perspective, but just like, have them be the grownups and then like, yeah. Like Leroy coming back and realizing maybe show enough wasn't a bad guy. Yeah. Damn it.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Who plays show enough, though? Dion Cole. That's a good fucking sure. I'm sorry. You thought it. I thought about it. I thought about it. As I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:20:12 If you were remaking, Dionne Cole is a perfect showdown. If you do it as a series like they did Cobra Cat, the series, I promise you it'll be. I'm just pitching you stuff, right? if you do old show enough like retired show enough is dion cole where he like regrets what he did yeah and bruce leroy yeah yeah i know what you was i was thinking the same thing
Starting point is 00:20:34 yeah yeah yeah yeah the cobra kine by the way that fucking show ruled because they did that fucking let it you watch cobra kine you're like oh you guys yeah that makes sense that was that was the greatest reboot of anything i've ever seen a fresh take on an old thing it was fucking it was brilliant it was what made it even more brilliant is that they played on that shit. It's like, like the wife being like, why y'all take a karate so serious?
Starting point is 00:20:55 Like, it was so brilliant, man. Yeah, and they were able to hype up the All Valley Under 18 karate tournament in a way that didn't go like, because I remember when you watched that like in the early 2000s, you'd be like, what the fuck? Just a bunch of kids karate fighting each other.
Starting point is 00:21:11 And then just a random old Japanese dude hanging with your son. That's the 80s, man. That's what I mean. And then you rode your BMX bike to the karate tournament. I want. Man, my question, and this is just an honest question,
Starting point is 00:21:24 is how many kids got abducted or abused because they thought they were about to learn karate? You remember Mr. Wizard? That show wasn't weird? The white man doing science, and he would just go to a random grocery store and be like, hey, want to see an experiment? And he would take them back to the house
Starting point is 00:21:40 and they build a volcano and shit. You don't remember Mr. Wizard. That's in the same part of my brain that remembers 3-2-1 contact. Do you remember that? 3-2-1. contact. It was like a science show where they'd be like, buoyancy.
Starting point is 00:21:55 You're like, all right, I'm going to learn about buoyancy. Yeah, you're right. Water vapor. 80s and 90s, they were just kind of like, when you were a free range kid. Yeah. You just had to come home when the sun was down. Yeah, man. Well, that's when they first started snatching kids where it was in the 80s, right?
Starting point is 00:22:07 Oh, I bet like, you know what? The fan pulling up is. No. I bet it was way worse. 40s, 50s, because you know why? Parents could just go, well, they ran off and joined the circus. But really he just got abducted. They probably jumped on the railroad and rode off to Indiana.
Starting point is 00:22:25 That's what he is. He's living on the tracks now. We've got to just make another kid. He's a hobo. And then someone in the 70s went, I want my kid back. And then that's when all the kidnapping. Put him on the mill cart. But you remember on different strokes, they had the pervert at the bike shop.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Dude, we talk about that. Big Jay and I used to talk about that. I'm not joking, Carlos. That's a crazy episode. Sam, I will kill your family. Do you remember when he says that to the kid? He goes, and then he leans in, he goes, I will murder. I think it's kill.
Starting point is 00:22:54 I will kill you. Sam, I will kill your family. We sat out as a drop. It was two different, they did two different generations of that type of shit. Yeah. Because remember Dudley got. Yeah. When Dudley got caught up.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Yeah. Like, that's crazy. Dudley and Sam. The Sam shit was like a serial killer though. You know, that was like, that guy was like, he couldn't talk. Remember, he was like, why are you being weird around him? And then finally when the guy, like, revealed how evil he was, as a kid, you were like, oh, that was dastardly.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Man, they were throwing the messages in them. Yeah, they did it all the time. I remember, like... I wonder what show they was trying to work on. And he was, like, throw it in different strokes. Because that's how it was. Hollywood was like, hey, do you guys want to take the guys who get murdered their family thing?
Starting point is 00:23:37 We were to do it on cheers, but it doesn't hit as hard. You know, we got the murder episode next week. Yeah, there was. That's always the funniest part when they did that documentary about the Dana Carvey show, and they showed the different changing sponsors of it. Yeah. they did a serious, there's a moment where there's like an ad for a serious home improvement
Starting point is 00:23:55 where about like, one of them's got cancer and he's like, I don't want a tie dad. And then the guy's like, followed by the mug diet root beer, Dana Carney shot in the show to all this. And I'm like, we had no business following that. They got, they used to get so serious on sitcoms. Yeah. Crossovers and the seriousness left sitcoms. Oh, you remember the episode of Roseanne where, uh, and Jackie was getting beat by a point. By the cop. And Dan, big the shit out of it. I wanted, I'm going to tell you right now.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Obviously, Roseanne didn't age well, similar to Hulk Cogan. But the power that that couch with that blanket had, come on, man, me. Because also Roseanne's from where I grew up. Roseanne's from Aurora, Colorado. She got big in Denver, but they made the show in Illinois, in Langford, Illinois. But I watched it, and I was like, this feels, it just felt like an old sweater you put, an old sweatshirtier you put on and be like, it was comfortable.
Starting point is 00:24:52 And then they would throw some topics that you were like, what the fuck? Remember how they ended the show? Uh-uh. That fucking, uh, Dan died of a heart attack.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Yeah. Everything she was thinking the last year was a dream and you were like, that should have told everybody that loved it. And Jagger had a wife. That's what it was. She became lesbian. And then DJ just disappeared.
Starting point is 00:25:11 DJ was gone. They had a different Becky. They had a different Becky. And Darlene was not even that. Can we also bring up, if we're talking to any sitcoms, the substitution of characters second Aunt Viv.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Come on. That was weird. Different husband on the second husband on married with children. That was weird. Darcy. Exactly. Darcy coming in. You go, I like the first guy.
Starting point is 00:25:30 The nerdy guy. And Darcy's all hot. Yeah. And then the women was all on them and he was clearly cheating on them. I would probably say out of all the sitcoms, married with children really did prep you for adulthood of this kind of like. Man, that's one of my favorite shows of all times. Mary Richella.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Remember, do you... Let's rock. Yeah. Yeah, dude, Al Bundy, I remember I wanted to watch any show that my mom was like, I don't think you should be watching this show. So the director of Mary With Children, director, Carmichael Show and my show. Yeah, really. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:07 He did Little Rel and he did the... Car Michael Show. Were you getting stories off him? Man, yes. He's so fun. But he still has some of that old school director shit in him. Like, I'm glad I say his name because I can tell the story because I say his day. if you look it up.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Don't I MDB him. Me and Jeff was doing like a, we did a crazy episode of Frederick Douglass, Drag It Slay or whatever the hell like. It came out with some stupid shit. And people didn't want to air
Starting point is 00:26:32 the episode of the cities like, this is ridiculous. Like black people's protesting in my episode. I'm like, damn. But anyway, me and Jeff, just a take on the Abraham Lincoln
Starting point is 00:26:39 vampire? Yeah, that's all it was. That's exactly what it was. Just to take on that. That's a take on that. That's a take on it. That's exactly what I did. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:26:46 what if a black, you know what I'm saying? That's hilarious. Yeah. Why can't your historical figures hunt the undead? We're serious about our history. We just don't, we don't, yeah, no, we, I. That's how you can tell us why we're so fucked up
Starting point is 00:26:57 is we're so flippant with it. We're like, who's important to us? We have Fredgett Douglas making out with Harriet Tubbin, right? That's, okay. And so people's like, what the hell? Like, even our characters are like, oh, come on, man, this is ridiculous. Yeah. So anyway, we was doing it.
Starting point is 00:27:09 We make it out, and he's watching on the monitor, but he's just grunting. He's like, oh, yeah, okay. Camera 2. Oh, okay. Switching. And we was like, yo, he can't do that. Not in 1985.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Stop with that. But he was, but as you can tell, he was just doing what he else. And I don't think he meant, wow. You don't even know. You're making,
Starting point is 00:27:30 this man's whole fantasy is coming true. He goes, oh, look at this. This is what I used to think about social stuff. I'm like, what that? With Pig and Al was like making it out,
Starting point is 00:27:39 was he just back there like, oh, yes. Grabber. Hey, grab her boo, Ed. Yeah. What are you talking about? Cup it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:47 There is that feeling where I wonder if like old school sitcom directors are similar to like 80s or 90s NFL players. Because you know when you see them interview it about it now and they're like, they don't hit like we used to. You wonder if like 90s directors are like, we could do whatever the hell we wanted. Yeah. Pure violence. It was like, yeah. Because that's what I mean. You work with a guy like that and you go, you come from a different fucking time.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Old school, man. The 80s and 90s was just like, especially with comedy, it was just kind of like, Wow. You go watch a random ass Saturday night live or like, what was Colin telling us? He wrote on the last season of In Living Color. And he was like, it was just hectic. You just, it almost was like, there was no adults in the room. Like the shit they were making like, this is wild.
Starting point is 00:28:36 There's no way you can make that now. And I think now with all these streamings, did you guys feel like that at all with haunted heist? Like there were jokes you couldn't? No. It's your movie. I didn't feel like that. Like for me, always had to make sense.
Starting point is 00:28:48 And look, it's stuff in there now that I know, you know, black people go be a little uncomfortable with it. But you guys know that when you're filming it? Are you like... You do. You got to push it, though. You can't even like...
Starting point is 00:29:02 Well, that's what's funny. You can't overthink it. You got to be like, man, look, we have them fun with this. You know what I'm saying? I think that is always like... I don't know. I know there's people that could argue against it.
Starting point is 00:29:12 But there genuinely is this thing of like, we're just being silly goose. That's why you can't apart. You got to just do it. Yeah, sometimes you just got to go in the room and close the door and be like, what do we got to do to me? Listen, we're going to have two options here. We're going to do the joke or you're going to have a fucking problem. Yeah, we're going to start threatening to sink people in the East River again.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Concrete shoes. Come on, man. That'll get shit done. Do you want me to show them the books? Exactly. Do they want to see, that's it. And by the way, do they want to see the books? This is why we have so many nerds in power right now because no one did this.
Starting point is 00:29:47 the old school corruption thing. Noah took Zuckerberg in and was like, come on, man, we got the books. And Zuckerberg's like, I'm computing. Guys running our shit right now that are fucking nerds. I don't understand. It's like, you needed someone to like put the hand on their shoulder and be like,
Starting point is 00:30:07 you're going to be all right. And you'd feel all right or scared shitless. We need those passwords, Mark. We need dangerous people. Corruption needs to be old school. and it needs to be guys that look like Batman could at least fight for a little bit. You know what they got to bring back then?
Starting point is 00:30:23 Squarebody Lincoln Town cars. Yes. That's the ultimate villain car. Yes, dude. Pulling up with that fucking low engine that like, oh my God. They need to bring back cars where... And they always...
Starting point is 00:30:37 Remember what they always pull off and like turn the corner real fast and the tires would screech real loud like it actually had what's... Bullshit. The car had 210 horns. This is, man. You're watching that going,
Starting point is 00:30:49 they put that in the fucking post. They put that in post. There's no way that. Remember on the L.L. Cool J when they kidnapped his girlfriend on the unbad? That's fun. They definitely threw her in the Lincoln Town car. Because they make it.
Starting point is 00:30:59 And also the one with the, Lincoln Town car. The one with the, the upholstery was always like, oh, they, that's how you knew it was the boss. It never rips. It never rips.
Starting point is 00:31:09 It looks perfect. If it was carpet, it was almost like permanently vacuumed. Yeah. Or that, like, cream, leather. in the inside of that
Starting point is 00:31:18 where you're like, and there's, here's always what's crazy to me. The column shifting. And they're always smoking, no burn marks. No burn marks. That's someone that smoked
Starting point is 00:31:26 for over 15 years, your car gets burn marks all the time unintentionally. You flicking out like that? You think it's immediately going out of the window? It just goes around, comes in the back window. Catching someone?
Starting point is 00:31:36 Hot, time. Yeah, you're right. Oh, fuck. We got a car bug. Ha, ha. Fuck, it got me. In a world of

When you make the movie, when do you find out you get Barry Gordy's house? Well, it's when we were scouting it. You know what I'm saying? We went and saw Rita Franklin's house.
Starting point is 00:35:02 What are you just doing, Legends houses? Detroit, man. Detroit is an interesting place. It really is. But a lot of those type of homes existed. Yeah. Like old mansions. It was so many of them, too, honestly.
Starting point is 00:35:13 And the Barry Gordy house was just like a perfect marriage. Like, I wanted it to work so bad. I'm like, oh, man. Because you, before you went in the house, did you know it was Barry Gordy's? Yeah. Because that might be. That might be honeypotting you a little. I'm glad I worked out.
Starting point is 00:35:27 But that was, if I knew, they should have shown you the house then gone. You know, it's a Barry Gordy's house. It's owned by this guy who had all these dogs. Like, this guy, a random guy, man. Random, like, just neighborhood dogs. It's because there's no rhyme or reason to the dogs that he picked. It's not like he got one breed of nice dogs. It just looked like he just.
Starting point is 00:35:49 He's picking up dogs. One of the dogs couldn't. It's like five. The one of the dogs' back legs didn't work. Was it on a contraption? Nope. No. He's just letting nature take its course.
Starting point is 00:36:00 I'm going to tell you something. I remember the first date of the, we were scound the place. And them dogs ran it. They all ran in pretty fast. Like, you've been like them old. Like him, Billy, like, TV shows, and the dogs running. And then all the dogs right. Then you saw this dog running in like this.
Starting point is 00:36:15 And I was like, yo, what? It took, it was the most craziest. A dog crawl, army crawling like that. Yeah. After you hear eight feet running around, like, tic-tick, tic. And then you got to wait on. You got to wait on. You can't rush them because this dog is literally at home.
Starting point is 00:36:35 You see him to go. He's like, they're fine. They're good. That's good. Thank you for your service. He's just pulled along. But then that dog ended up passing away, which was sad. While you guys were filming the movie?
Starting point is 00:36:46 Yeah. But a guy that has that many dogs, death isn't a bigger deal. Especially one crawling, man. Like, I feel bad about how funny that shit was to me because it was like, yeah. He was still barking hard.
Starting point is 00:37:03 I'm coming to get you. It's crazy you don't throw. Also, I'm just going to say this is 2026. There's like seven. Several dog wheelchair companies. He had one. And for some reason, it didn't use it. That's funny.
Starting point is 00:37:15 It was cool. It's like Lieutenant Dan. Don't help me. Don't help me. It was crazy. Get your goddamn hand off me. I lost these in the cat war. You were supposed to let me die gum.
Starting point is 00:37:29 You son of a bitch. Oh, eat your kibble while people like me crawl to our water dish. Yeah, dude, I love him being a vet's rights guy. You have got an understanding. I always think that's funny when, you know, when we got, our dog would bark other dogs, like on walks or whatever. And then, you know, my wife would be like,
Starting point is 00:37:49 why she, why she's you parking like that? It's like, because they're saying, they're talking. If you were walking a human on a different planet and I thought, and you were walking, you, I was like, hey, hey, you know? I'm saying. What's your name? I'm saying you.
Starting point is 00:38:01 I've been you. Or if you were just having a bad day, you're like, fuck you, damn, go away. Fucking piece of shit. And I'm like, hey. But that's just. That's all barks. So I was like, let them talk.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Yeah. They're in the house all day. If we're outside, fucking go ahead. In the house. That's what I worry about. That's funny, yo. We got a neighbor on our floor that just got a dog that just doesn't shut the fuck up. To the point that you see my dog get annoyed.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Like, she's like, this bitch. She's just like, nonstop. You might hear it when you walk out. Damn. And I've said to, I had to give her that passive aggressive white neighbor energy, you know, where I'm like, hey, can we? It's getting loud. Hey, I got a book.
Starting point is 00:38:41 You want to read it? I almost did hit him with me. I almost did hit him with the, you know, I know a trainer. A dog, when you were in the elevator, I was going to go, I have a friend that trains. It's been a long, quiet elevator ride. I have a friend that trains dogs. She's like, why would I need that?
Starting point is 00:38:58 When you guys are. Because the dog, oh, shit, the fuck out. Did he, did he have this guy that owned the house? Did he have any, like, weird shit about you guys touching any of the stuff? Was he like? Yeah, actually, it was a little bit. It was like certain rooms we couldn't go in. It's quite understandable because I feel like he had some strange things that he was doing in those rooms.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Yeah. Okay. Because he would like just be randomly all over the house and he would stay in that room and he'd be in there all day. You forget he was in there. And then he would bring the dogs out and they would move to another spot. So when he moves from room to room, all five dogs are moving with him. Yeah. That's too much.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Yeah. That's too much. It's too much. It's interesting. Like, and it's no, I guess, we're done with the film now, but we had to put up with a lot of the shit just to make it. Yeah, I mean, on that last day,
Starting point is 00:39:47 you're kind of like, first day you show up and you're like, wow, this is crazy. Last day you're like, I know. And he's like telling you about the dog's diets. And you're like, all right, I got it. Now he can't, that dog right there. He only eats peppermint.
Starting point is 00:40:02 It was very strange shit. He was like, he's a Capricorn. And then he has. like podcast equipment set up but what in the random room? I didn't know that. That's very funny. So where the pool was,
Starting point is 00:40:14 it was a rule that nobody could go here, but it was like, you know, because I saw everything. It was his studio. Yes, it was crazy. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:40:22 what if you found out, that would be funny if you found out he had a podcast, he was just a shit talking you guys making the movie. I don't even know what the hell they want. Barry wouldn't like him.
Starting point is 00:40:30 This movie sucks. I'm getting fucking rich off. My dogs are happy. But he had some pretty dope shit in there that Barry left. Like, yeah. It was a lot of like, like, I guess they would be like telegrams or some shit. Really? Like, hey, we're out on the road.
Starting point is 00:40:49 Money's getting low. Could you send some more funds? That's so funny. And Ralph's still defending him? Yeah. But I was like, he wasn't a bad guy. His own telegrams were like, please, Barry. Please, I need to eat.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Well, he had, like, framed, like, where people were in the studio and they were writing out lyrics. That's fucking cool. That's fucking real cool. And it was an indoor pool. Yeah. That is. Yeah. There were that indoor pool in a house like that or like a Rick James house that or
Starting point is 00:41:19 whoever, um, Kenny Rogers. You see an indoor pool like that and you go, oh, okay. You're horny ass motherfucker. Well, also, depending on what city you stayed in. Yeah, Detroit's cold. Yeah. But when you see like someone that has like Nashville or somewhere that's like kind of hot out, you go.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Yeah. Oh, fuck are you doing in there. creepy-ass thing. Also, I've watched enough serial killer documentaries that there was one guy that had like an indoor pool and he would kill people in it.
Starting point is 00:41:44 And from that moment I watched that documentary, I'm like, I'm good on indoor pools. Damn. Fuck a hotel pool. Fuck anything. Also, I hate the, the, like, the humidity of
Starting point is 00:41:55 the feel of like a, you know what I'm talking about? When you walk in an indoor pool and you got like that chlorine smell. And it's just like, yeah, it feels like pissed. It's like warm. Yes.
Starting point is 00:42:06 It's like warm, it's not really warm. And you're not comfortable. And if you're in your clothes, you're kind of sticky a little, yeah. You're just like, my mom's boyfriend when I was, and I did this in my last special, but it was a joke.
Starting point is 00:42:17 My mom's boyfriend was like over 50 and he was in a swim league. Oh, yeah, yeah. And I used to have to go watch him swim on Saturday morning. Shit. Old man balls everywhere. Carlos, you have no idea. Some men that were in Speedos
Starting point is 00:42:31 that had zero business being in Speedos. That's terrible. And I hated this motherfucker. And I would just sit there and be like, you know, after a while I was finally like, I'm going to walk around wherever high school it was at. But we'd have to go into these fucking indoor pools and watch it. And I think that's what it was. Fuck that serial killer doc. I was just remembering how much I hated watching Joe Swim laps.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Oh, my God. Especially because it's not a cool sport. If your mom's boyfriend is like good at baseball and in the league or whatever, basketball, you go, oh, fucking. He's playing water polo with a bunch of 75 years. Dude, he's hopping in and fucking watching him cut. It's true, man. I said it in the joke, but it's true. He was fucking good.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Looking back, dude, I didn't respect him at all. But then I remember watching him, and my mom would be like, he's going to win every race. And you're like, I hate Joe. I'd be cheering against him and shit. I'd be picking other guy. I'd be like, I hope this guy. Come on, Steve!
Starting point is 00:43:28 I'm sitting with other families and shit. Your dad has to win on the backstroke. I can't drive home with this motherfucker winning four races in a row. He used to do, that's, I fucking hated it. Damn, man. Yeah. Mom's boyfriend sports, you want a cool one. You don't want to fucking.
Starting point is 00:43:44 That's swimming, huh? Swimming? Just looking like Rodney Dangerfield. Oh, he's like, hey, he's on a die boy. Hey, I'm going to do the Triple Wendy. I would have loved it. If my fucking mom's boyfriend only been Rodney Dangerfield, he'll know what to have the shit.
Starting point is 00:43:57 You're like, kid, you got a big head. Hey, your father doesn't like you. I don't care for you much either. He's just being honest with it. Hey, it turns out your dad likes the bottle better than you. Who knew? I'm going to take you to school at 7 in the morning. I think that would have hit way fucking better.
Starting point is 00:44:13 Man. So this was your shit? Just every weekend or what? Yeah, every fucking weekend, every Saturday. Because my dad was going. Who ran the league? You know, it's called, you can look it up. It's a whole thing called Masters.
Starting point is 00:44:26 And it's for people over 40. It's like, it's supposed to be like people that have mastered the thing. But it's basically for people that are like, It's like the senior tour of the TG. Yeah, it sounds like it. Where it's just old people competing, but it's a ton of sports. They do swimming,
Starting point is 00:44:42 they do track and field, they do all the shit that's like for people over 40. I'm going to have to join their league. I wonder if they're still around. Look it up. Can you look up if Master League still? Dude, I'm telling you right now.
Starting point is 00:44:54 And this is just being a guy that got dragged there for fucking a couple years. Now we got to join it. We're over 40. We can get in there. They will kick the shit out of us. because you don't understand. These are people...
Starting point is 00:45:04 I mean, the first couple years, yeah, until we found out fucking strat. I don't know if you can catch up. I mean this... Olympic size pools is... I just did one of them celebrities. Oh, he said they got other sports, too. Oh, if it was other sports, in fact. They got other sports.
Starting point is 00:45:19 Oh, I thought you just talking about swimming. I'm like, damn. Yeah. Okay, U.S. Masters swimming is what I was talking about. But they do, like, U.S. Masters track. It would be funny as fuck if you're looking that up now, and Joe Steele got some records. They go, let me tell you, we're going to bleep his name
Starting point is 00:45:31 because fuck that motherfucker forever, but they're like, number one Joe's out of it. Like, this cock sucker's still at it. Masters track and field. Yeah, they do, U.S. Masters track and field, they do all of it. Now, the funny thing is,
Starting point is 00:45:46 I've been to like, like, you know, those track meets the, those track teams that's not with the school. Sure. Yeah, club teams. They always have the old people races, too, and that shit is insane. That's where we're at right now.
Starting point is 00:45:58 That's crazy. There'd be you in the blocks. They started on hard, And this is like, two minutes and 10 seconds. I'm not in the line, yo. She's going to those pill cases that she has to take before where she's like, it's just long. This is Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I don't want my heart to stop when I come out of the blocks.
Starting point is 00:46:17 Yeah, man. Watch it when they're done and just walk in the track for about two hours after they're doing racing. Like, racing for like 100 yards. And they walk the track for about two hours to, like, cool down. But they have to. Because if they cool it out too easy, they're going to stand up from the couch and their hamstrings are going to snap. It's so funny. Like, why the kids are racing, they just still walking or they got a whole little,
Starting point is 00:46:37 they can't put them to walk. I'm not even making this up, too. But by the way, that's, that's what it is. So I want, did they have, like, a concession stand? Yep. Is there somebody making hot dogs? Yep. Everything.
Starting point is 00:46:47 You could go, because what I always wanted, what I learned was, because they would have, like, whether they call it, like, a snack shack would be open. And my mom, I would be so miserable, especially, you know, I've got to watch these prelimbs. Listen, I understand Joe's in the main heat. I ain't try to watch these fucking prelimbs. I'm like, let me get five bucks, I'm going to walk around. And I'd go to the snack shack. It would always be shitty nachos.
Starting point is 00:47:09 There was never hot dogs, because that's, you got a. That requires effort. You get like a bag up, you get like a Gatorade and a bag of like Doritos, M&Ms, and shit. It's all that shit. So you just go to the snack shack, get an ice cream sandwich. That was the one. And then you learned always, never bring your food inside the pool. You weren't allowed to, but I'd sneak it in and be like damp nachos after.
Starting point is 00:47:32 like the third one and you're like, oh fuck, now my day's ruined. What I started doing is my friend, I would trick my friends to go with me. I'd be like, you should sleep over.
Starting point is 00:47:41 We'll, like, run a video game and hang out all night. And then I'd be like, hey, in the morning, you want to come to Joe's swim meet with me? And they'd be like, okay. And then by the time I was like 12.
Starting point is 00:47:51 Nobody would spend the night. No. And if they would, if we went, we would just take my mom's car and drive around the parking lot. Because that was like, we were bored.
Starting point is 00:48:00 We weren't going to watch swimming. We're like just get in the car and fuck it. And then we'd sometimes we wouldn't get the same parking spot and that's how we'd get in trouble. Because my mom would be like, why the fuck is my car in a different spot? How did Joe do in that butterfly? I'm trying to avoid it.
Starting point is 00:48:15 That's funny. That's fucked up because now you know that's how he got your mom. Oh yeah. He took her there. He went, I want you to watch something. I want you to watch me. You want to get them on me? The real me?
Starting point is 00:48:27 I could tell you. What are you doing Saturday? Sure, I could tell you my interest. reading, woodworking, Saturday, what are you doing? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:48:36 he was my, he was like my dad's best friend. That's so fucked up. I know. I know. Damn, this is fucked up, man.
Starting point is 00:48:45 I know, and I fucking, that dude did not like me. And I did not like him. It was very mutual. It was just kind of like, they would, dude.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Could you swim? Yeah, but I hated it. Oh. He all, one time, because I played Pop Warner football, he tried,
Starting point is 00:49:01 telling me in between 6th and 7th or 7th and 8th grade, he was like, you know what, train you really well for football? Swimming. And I went, I remember, I remember being like, shut the fuck up. That was like my first time with an adult saying something where you go, shut up. But he did that. He's like, swimming would be great for you cardiovascularly. That's what he tried to say.
Starting point is 00:49:23 It's good for your luck. No, it's not. This is, this is a movie, real. Because this dude is. Well, first of all, let me tell you something about Dan. all his specials to me is it's full of fucking
Starting point is 00:49:38 TV shows like the shit he just do about him and his father oh my fucking guy oh yeah I mean you know the time your dad wasn't pissed off
Starting point is 00:49:46 that you were spending all these Saturdays you think my dad gave his shit you think my dad was calling my dad was just gone I told him I remember the conversation when he called
Starting point is 00:49:56 and I go you know Joe lives with us now and he goes what but he did it in a way where he was probably reading the back of a label of something and the phone was in his ear, he goes, why's he living with you? Like that. It wasn't like,
Starting point is 00:50:09 it wasn't like a, that's son of a bitch, that's my family. He was going like, he goes, what is this? This is his tat? No,
Starting point is 00:50:17 he's little with you? How long have you been living with you for? What were you saying about Joe? Yeah, it's exactly. It's almost, how fucking you nailed it. What are you saying Joe's,
Starting point is 00:50:27 what's he doing? Yeah, I don't know, man. I think that's just like, you know, We're talking about 80s and 90s TV shows. 80s and 90s alcoholics, they could just dip on a family. They could just leave.
Starting point is 00:50:37 There was no... Maybe that's where that shit started. I'll be right back. I'll go to get some cigarette. That's the cigarette thing. Yeah. But, I mean, people, dude, here's the crazy shit that I was thinking about. How many more people had other families, full on other families?
Starting point is 00:50:55 70s, 80s, that shit was way more rampant than it is right now. That's just so crazy when you have alcoholics in your family and shit like that. Yeah. Because I vividly remember riding with my uncle and his Grand Prix and he had a teetop. It's not a teatop. He had a sunroof. And he was just drinking beers, just throwing them bitches out. Dude, I remember stopping my dad.
Starting point is 00:51:18 They moved from San Francisco up into this town, way north, this town in Lake County. We were just there recently. And they drove, they had to drive me to the Sacramento airport. My dad and his roommate were taking me. They're in their fucking, they're about. my age right now, mid-40s. I was pulled over and had two fucking Miller High Life's at the gas station.
Starting point is 00:51:37 Just sat there, drank two beers. I'm going to the airport. I'm like, guys, we've got to go to my flight. And they're just chilling, drinking it. Fucking kicking it. And then I remember my dad made the joker. He goes, ah, this thing's colder than the other side of my ex-wife's bed. And I was like, well, that Joe sleeps there now.
Starting point is 00:51:52 I remember my dad being like, I like, that was the only time I ever think I saw him. It was when I interrupted one of his bits. I was like actually mom's getting railed by Joe That shit bothers me It's gonna make me a violent teenager That's what I tell them You're about to make me
Starting point is 00:52:08 But yeah Drinking back in the day Like with your uncle They would just have drinks and be like One for the road I remember my dad got drunk at the party And he was like you're gonna drive today Like he was doing me a favor
Starting point is 00:52:19 How old are you? I was probably 12 That's so funny And then he was in the car talking shit Like he was crowd up He was like Yeah ride this motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:52:32 You drag. I love it. He's like, you're fucking nailing it. Yeah, man. My mom was always pretty good about not, you know, fallout, but my dad was such a feral human being that when I would go stay with him, it was like, you're like 12 years old being like,
Starting point is 00:52:48 is this cool? Are we all right? I remember when we went out to that boat party on July 4th. That was the first time when I can remember being like, yo, I don't think I should be here. Like, they're just, at a party and you go, hey, I'm going to excuse myself. That, like, self-awareness.
Starting point is 00:53:02 There you go, I should be playing with Spider-Man back at Grandma's. Not watching you guys go into that bedroom and become completely different people when you come back out. But yeah, they would be like, like where my grandma moved to and my dad moved there, too, was like a party town. It was like a lake town. You know what I mean? So these people, the whole thing was like, where are we going to get fucked up?
Starting point is 00:53:23 Man. It's different now. Yeah. Just the shit that we saw growing. up would fuck these new kids up, man. Oh my God. The way we were talked to. What?
Starting point is 00:53:34 The way that adults used to talk to us. I'm disappointed that they prepared us for shit that was never going to happen. Remember when we were doing like the DARE program and shit? They made it seem like when we got to a certain age, we were going to just be outside and there would just be all these drugs and people would just give them to you. You got to pay good money. You got to pay money for drugs. You got to go get a job to do drugs.
Starting point is 00:53:54 They didn't explain that part of it. But they tried to make it seem like it was just people outside just giving away drugs to 12 year olds and shit yeah that was also the same thing movies did that with like parties where everyone was going to be cool and part ways when you walked through a place holding hey you know like saying hi to you're like excuse me excuse me yeah yeah where they go whoa new shoes and then they go mooh yeah I'm sorry I'm fucking sorry it sucks none of this shit is like but you're right there made you think if you should smoked a joint.
Starting point is 00:54:29 You were a drug addict. And you would eventually smoke crack. And you didn't realize that your alcoholic parent. This is your brain on drug. Or they would show you. Friday shit. They would show you like a, like a, I remember the, and Dare specifically, it was like a chart of what a drug addict look like. And they like show it to you and be like, look at his eyes.
Starting point is 00:54:50 They're all red. You don't realize his hands won't stay still. My childhood would have been so much better if my parents were smoking weed and not drinking. You should have brought Dair to my house for booze And talking about my fucking parents There was a bad idea Because at some point of that program I think a cop came for like six weeks
Starting point is 00:55:08 Or something like Yeah they'd come like And then probably like week three or four You brought that big case full of drugs And it shows you all It like had all the drugs in it And they prepped you the week before And they told you how much they cost
Starting point is 00:55:21 What they would do How you would feel if you took it It was fucked up It really was And it was also like I wish I wish I could get that footage to see how they explained a cop explaining drugs, where he goes, this one right here is, uh, it's marijuana. It's going to make you very, it's going to make you crazy. You can get a good, you can get a good joint of marijuana on the streets for about three to seven bucks.
Starting point is 00:55:44 Yeah, who, no one's selling Lucy joints. Hey, hey, you got good grades. You know, that was a, uh, uh, Captain Planet. Yeah. It's a whole episode, a drug episode. Really? Yeah, well, the girl, she got like really high. And the guy was selling it, he was like some weird little skiskeme, like, yeah, I got that shot. And she was fucked up.
Starting point is 00:56:07 I saw it on, you know who's special? It was, God, what's this guy's name? It just recently came out one of the best specials I've ever seen. I can't remember his fucking name. But that's what he was doing. He was literally showing episodes and stuff that was crazy inappropriate. That's really funny. Baywatch shit, all types of shit.
Starting point is 00:56:23 Like him, like, pointing out that Hasselhoff was paralyzed for like, oh, then just came back to the next episode. It was okay, like the next few episodes. Yo, that, uh... It's just the, it was so fucking... The other, it was his name. It's one of the best shit. I just watched this.
Starting point is 00:56:37 What was his name, Mom? What was his son's name? It was something stupid. Oh, Bodey. Bodey. Mitch and Bodey. Dude, they got a fuck that. Dude, Baywatch was a thing where I...
Starting point is 00:56:46 They got an eating episode. What of those, like, eating this old episodes with this fact? Did you know, do you know, remember the save? Remember the saved by the bell? I'm scared. I'm, uh, I, uh, where Jessieie Spano does caffeine. You guys ever seen that?
Starting point is 00:57:00 I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so scared. That was supposed to be Coke. And then NBC cut it. NBC made him change you to the fucking caffeine. She was addicted to the caffeine pills. But in reality, it was supposed to be that.
Starting point is 00:57:13 Yeah, yo. Which honestly would have made showgirls made more sense. Absolutely. If we're talking canon. Well, they had Carlton, though, this shit. It was called it Speed. That's what it was.
Starting point is 00:57:23 And the thing about it is, I think it was always cocaine. It was always cocaine. but they just kept giving it the other name. So you like trying to watch out for drugs. You're like, well, I ain't going to take no speed, but then you don't know about cocaine. I just thought about caffeine. Yeah. Jesse Spanow and Showgirls.
Starting point is 00:57:39 She has sex with OG Bobby Johnson from South Central. Yeah. Yeah. That's crazy. Oh, isn't he the, he's the dancer that like teachers? Yeah, would they remember he had the dreads? He was also Romeo and Juliet. He's done a ton of shit.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Yeah. Yeah, Marcuseo. He was McCruchio and Romeo and Juliet with Leo. Dude, motherfuckers back. That's crazy when you think about how many talented people were just in a bunch of shit that affected our lives. We were like, you can follow it. But yeah, he was OG.
Starting point is 00:58:09 And he was her, like, he taught her how to really dance. She was a showgirl, but she really wanted to, man, I remember her. She had to learn how to thrust her hips from a black man. That's always, they did that nonstop in the 90s, where they'd go like, white people, we can't have rhythm. We've got to be taught it. And it was like to save the last dance where they did the shoulder thing with Julie's
Starting point is 00:58:33 You're made up for it though, man. You remember Michelle Pfeiffer had to go to that school and save a whole black neighborhood. But I'm going to tell you right now. With a leather jacket and a quick move. That's all she had. Can I tell you right now? Culeo made the greatest song of the world. Oh, Gangsters Paradise.
Starting point is 00:58:47 But if we're going to be honest, if we're reflecting honestly up back there, she didn't save a black school. She saved a Mexican school with some black kids in it. Okay. And that was why I was able to work. Okay. Because she would have gotten laughed out of a black, all black high school, she would have been gone immediately.
Starting point is 00:59:03 But you know, that was the theme back in the day. They always wanted like, White Savior. The White Savior to come to the urban school and teach everybody how to read. Just in time for the state test. Well, hold on a second. You guys are reading like whites. That's like what the guy says.
Starting point is 00:59:20 It's going to. Oh, my God. And the one white principal who wanted them to fail? Yeah. We believe somebody's been cheating. Yeah. There's no way they're learning. But it was, I always thought it was funny because she, like, turned the chair around and they're like, whoa, watch you.
Starting point is 00:59:35 Whoa, she's fucking for real. And then she's like, you ever heard of Bob Dylan? And they're like, or Dylan Thomas? And they're like, oh, that shit wouldn't have worked at all. What are you going to do, white girl? Yeah, that was, dude. What's funny is my mom used to work at, I think, either West or North High School in Denver in the 70s, and she got stabbed. What?
Starting point is 01:00:00 She got, like, fucking cut on her arm while she was trying to keep a girl out. Like, she separated these two girls. These two girls were best friends. One of them was a good student. One of them was just, like, fucking ready, ready for whatever. Like, down for, like, really a bad kid. My mom separated him because she knew the one girl was like a good student. So she was like, I'm going to kick you out of my class.
Starting point is 01:00:22 So you got kicked out of her class. Then the girl came around the window, you know, trying to get her friend's attention. My mom comes out in the hallway. She's like, you got to get the fuck out of here or whatever. And then the girl starts going off on my mom pulls out a fucking switchblade because it was like, I think, 76, 75 or 76. That's the height of switchblade. Yeah, so that's your, I think.
Starting point is 01:00:40 That you do like this first. What are you going to do, white lady? What are you going to do, Patricia? What if I could cut you? Yeah, see? My mom said she went in the bathroom and there were these like alarm things and she went and hit it
Starting point is 01:00:57 and the lady fucking got her once on the arm. She told me that story. I was like, you know, what the fuck? And it was when, after I watched, what's it called? The Michelle Pfeiffer movie. Dangerous minds. Man.
Starting point is 01:01:10 My mom goes, she, she's like, I watched it. She gets stabbed in it. I go, no. She goes, all right. I just never heard me like, shit ain't real. You can fucking take one on the arm like I did.
Starting point is 01:01:21 But yeah, is that fun. You see that? That's English. 1975. Three stitches. English 201. And I fucking got it. She knew the brand of Switchblade.
Starting point is 01:01:33 That's a Nighthawk. Steel blade. Made in Mexico. Valerian steel. That's like something there. It's like, Damascus. Damascus.
Starting point is 01:01:45 Ah. We're standing up. They're lives where you went to the gangsters paradise. She's drunk singing it, cooking dinner. And spend most of the lives. And one for you, one for me. Let me dinner, the gangsters paradise. Y'all missing the best part of that whole video.
Starting point is 01:02:08 That big man was sweating his ass off smoking a cigarette while he's sunned it. Yeah. And by the way, sat down, fucking belting it out to the point that, remember when you found out, if you watched wrestling after a while you found out they weren't coming to the ring sweaty that they were like spraying themselves with water my whole childhood I thought the ultimate warrior was watching backstage
Starting point is 01:02:32 and something just pissed him off that made him run full speed to the ring that's what I always thought too I've never got to discuss this with anybody wrestlers showing up out of nowhere always to me made sense as a child I love how Jim Rose act like he had no idea oh my God oh my God
Starting point is 01:02:50 The ultimate warrior. You know what's been coming up in my feed? Is watching Stone Cold Pops. When the music happens and they go like, That's son of a bitch is here. That's a son of a bitch is here. And you're like, you guys, the music's playing. That's a cue.
Starting point is 01:03:03 I bet when the action's going on, then the whole arena just gets dark and you hear the tombstone. Yeah. Oh my God, the Undertaker. Yeah. Somebody jumping off the ropes. It just goes dark.
Starting point is 01:03:16 Like, what the fuck? Guys, I can't see. that would be they should have had a wrestler that was afraid of the dark like he's unstoppable and then he's just like super scared of the dark and then he's like guys don't do that he's like grabbing the rope like at the side of the roller rink when you can't stay that's been the best part of this podcast era though is just watching all those wrestlers confess
Starting point is 01:03:39 like Jake the Snake is like I can't watch WrestleMania 5 have you ever I was so drunk he did he did friends of the people too Jake the Snake Jake the Snake Jake the snake does live stories. But he actually really, he tried, like, he hurt me. Like, because he was like, oh, come on, motherfucker. And I'm like, nigga, what?
Starting point is 01:03:56 Like, I'm like, this is a sketch, sir. There he goes, come on. What were we supposed to do to? Man, it was just like a fake wrestle. It was a fake move, man. And he really was like, and I'm like telling the, I'm like, yo, he's serious, man. I'm not doing the shit. And he's like, he's talking shit to me like, yeah, come on, motherfucker.
Starting point is 01:04:15 He had two last bag. You got dementia? He has. If you've never watched the documentary beyond the mat. I have. That's where you see Jake the Snake, and he's got some fucking wild lines in that movie. The one that me,
Starting point is 01:04:30 I always used to quote, was when he's like, you ever look in the mirror and realize the person you hate the most is staring right back at you? And he stops and he goes, Diary of a Madman. And then the other thing he says is he's like,
Starting point is 01:04:45 well, my mother was raped by my father when she was 13 years old. and then it cuts to him and his dad raking leaves, and his dad goes, well, he was born out of love and I still love him. That's not what he just said. What he just said? What he just said before that.
Starting point is 01:05:02 I almost want to find that scene because it's so like, no, it's not. He was a born out of love, you fucking psycho. Jake the Snake is really like... That's the best name in history. It's the greatest name. Jake the Snake Roberts. My favorite name is Dick Wolf.
Starting point is 01:05:18 Dick Wolf's great. produced by Dick Wolf. That's a good thing. Dick Wolf is a fantastic thing. To be known in your neighborhood is Jake the snake the snake, the snake Roberts. Yeah, just the way that it rhymes. Jake the snake Roberts. And also that voice where he's like, I'll tell you what.
Starting point is 01:05:31 Yeah. There's a promo he does where he slaps Miss Elizabeth, where he, it's on a, if you want to look it up online, it's a Tuesday in Texas. It's the one where Jake the snake put the, with the snake on macho man's arm. Yeah. Remember that? Yeah. Where he tied him up in the ropes and then he put the actual snake on him, which was.
Starting point is 01:05:48 The back story to that one. When macho man was like, you sure the snake's been fixed. Oh, he told on Rogan, where he goes, he goes, do it to yourself. And he goes, I'm not doing it myself. He goes, I need to make sure the snake is fixed. And he's like, hold on.
Starting point is 01:06:03 Jake the snake tells it. Look at that clip. But if you look up the pay-per-view Tuesday in Texas, it's after he gets bit on the arm. And it's like a pay-per-view on a Tuesday night, which is sick. Yeah. I should do that more.
Starting point is 01:06:15 But he has it bandaged up, and they wrestle so much that the blood from the wound comes through. Yeah. So macho man wins, but then Jake the snake, DD teaser, he DDTs
Starting point is 01:06:26 Macho man four times in a row, which we all know, collectively, he's dead. Right. You can't come back for four DDTs. And then Miss Elizabeth
Starting point is 01:06:34 tries to stop him and he slaps him. He tells the story on that, too, about them practicing, and Jake's like, like Vince McMahon, macho man, Jake the snake and Miss Elizabeth,
Starting point is 01:06:45 he's like, I can't hit her. I can't hit her. And macho man's like, you're going to have to do it. That's just crazy. Being like, no, you're going to have to fucking hit her. And then he does it in the ring.
Starting point is 01:06:57 Watch his promo after that. It's one of the best wrestling promos from a villain in the history of all wrestling. Do you remember that match when they tried to make it saying like macho man was going blind? Because he got bit by the snake doing that match. Well, do you remember when Jake the snake was blind? Because Rick the model Martel sprayed perfume in his eye? Yeah. And they put in the white.
Starting point is 01:07:16 That was the dumbest gimmick ever. He had a big-ass canister. Yeah, arrogance. That was the name of the cologne. He would spray it, and then he sprayed it in Jake the Snake's eyes, and they did a thing that we didn't know, but he put a white contact lens in his eye, and then they did that thing where he's like, I'm blind. And I remember nine-year-old me being like, he's fucking blind.
Starting point is 01:07:38 Like my, you know what I mean? That's not fucking fake, dude. Jake the Snake can't see. And then they did a blindfold match. I think at WrestleMania. Rick the Marl Martel versus Jake. They came up with some wild shit on the wrestling man. That was cocaine, dude.
Starting point is 01:07:51 That was cocaine and one guy running it. A guy that went, we could do this two ways. That was all Vince McMahon was. Vince McMahon was, he was a terrible person. Terrible person. Horrible person. Yeah, that shit was dark. And this is what I tried to say.
Starting point is 01:08:04 When he was singing as Vince McMahon. Oh, he's like, and I'll tell you what the WF got. That shit. You know what I'm talking about where he was doing this dance on it? He was like shaking his top. He was like, please stop. They had Hulk on bass. Yeah, dude, that whole era of cocaine and steroids made such a specific product that you can't go back to it.
Starting point is 01:08:27 Psycho Sid. Psycho Sid was the man. He was actually a good dude. People talk about that. He was actually like a really good guy. They like, he like cared about his friends and shit to the point where you're like, when you hear that about a wrestler, you're like, oh shit. But he got, he stabbed Arne Anderson in the leg with scissors one time on the road. Yo, comics think we have a tough life on the road.
Starting point is 01:08:48 and then you just need to listen to wrestlers. Nothing like wrestlers, man. That's what made that movie, was it, the wrestler? Yeah, with Mickey Rourke. Man, that was dope. Yeah, that was a great movie. It was like heartbreak, but it was like such a reveal, though. Have you ever gone to a wrestling event at a high school?
Starting point is 01:09:02 No, not at a high school. I have. Yeah? Yeah, like an underground wrestling league. Yeah, indie. Yeah. It's crazy. I went in Mississippi. It was crazy.
Starting point is 01:09:13 Because they would always, like, pool together just enough money to get, like, one person you recognize. That's exactly what I went to a church. One year they had Coco Beware. With the parrot? He didn't have his bird, though. This was laid home when he was like, but buy a new bird, dude.
Starting point is 01:09:27 I understand birds die. Please buy a new bird. He didn't have a new bird at the time. I went to the one in Jersey. Shout out Pat Buck. It was his school. And I went out to it and they got million dollar man. This is like 2017.
Starting point is 01:09:40 This motherfucker could move in the ring. He was an old man, but he did like a couple moves to the point where I was like. Yeah, everybody has got a price. That shit was crazy. Those characters were insane. Like that group, that specific group was insane. You can't say as a kid, you ain't think he was rich, though.
Starting point is 01:10:01 I did. That's what I said. I believe whatever the fuck they told me. I'll tell you right now, I think it made me dislike. It made me hate rich people more than society did. It was wrestling. I didn't like how he treated. I ain't like how he treated Virgil at the end.
Starting point is 01:10:14 That was the whole point, dude. What's crazy is we got a. civics lesson through fucking DeBiase and Virgil. You know what I mean? Kids were like, come on Virgil! When he made him clean the horses shit off his shoe? And then he was like, fuck you. And then Virgil, dude, that match where Virgil gets him at Survivor Series, I think it is.
Starting point is 01:10:30 I'll tell you right now what's great about wrestling is how they do the delayed enjoyment. So it was like four on four, but Virgil was on one team and a million dollar man was on another team. And they did a thing where finally Virgil got in the ring and you were like, he's going to fuck him up. You know what I mean? And do the thing where, like, macho, a million-dollar man turns around, and Virgil's, like, dude, that shit.
Starting point is 01:10:52 I'm going to go watch Survivor Series. You should go watch Haunted Heist. You should. Right now. Yes, right now theaters. Right now. Right now. Yes.

Starting point is 01:11:27 I love that shit. Yes. I love that shit. We got a theme song. Because I was trying to explain when we were in the bay. We got a whole soundtrack. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:35 Then pick up the soundtrack. Go down with the soundtrack. It's developed. Yeah. Bro, soundtracks, bet. I miss that shit. This is one of those random things where I wanted to do things that I miss. Sure.
Starting point is 01:11:45 Like, yes, original song. And I fucking love that shit Did you have to give notes on the original song? I did Like when he first sent him me the tracks That's got to be fun as hell I mean I had a lot of fun in this shit And I think like for me

Starting point is 01:12:35 Yeah. I really was thinking about that. I took a Greyhound up there. I forget how I got that shit. I fuck it. I just remember getting up there and then I remember. We basically stayed at like a Montreal version of the projects. Dude, it was so.
Starting point is 01:12:46 How funny. They told us to go, you're not getting a hotel. And you're like, well, where are you putting us? And they're like these apart. It was like a hotel, but it was an apartment. Yeah. Because I stayed with Chris Laker, who also did it with us. And we went in there and we were like, what the fuck is this?
Starting point is 01:13:00 Yeah. I remember somebody from some company, this is where I was still drinking. Somebody from a company gave me a hundred bucks for booze. And I was like, I did this handshake. I was like, well, we're working together. And then three months later was like, well, we agreed to work together. I was like, buddy, that was blackout, and you gave an alcoholic 100 bucks. You think you're going to get a business fucking deal out of this?
Starting point is 01:13:22 Yeah, but I've known you forever. So it's awesome to watch you do all this shit. And like I've said, I'm a huge fan of you, Carlos. I think you're fucking hilarious.
