They explained the situation, said they needed his help, and asked him to hand over his phone. Daniel flat out refused. He said, he had he had his help. He He was adamant. Said it was private, his personal property, and they had no right to it. The agents warned him they'd be getting a search warrant anyway and that they would see everything eventually. They encouraged him to just be honest, to cooperate now, to save himself some trouble.

But Daniel stayed silent, claimed he didn't know anything. The interrogation didn't go anywhere. Eventually, the police got the warrant. They unlocked his phone, and what they found. made everything worse. This wasn't just a case of jealousy. There was something much darker going on underneath. They told him what he was wearing that day, the next day. They named his girlfriend. They even mentioned which side of the bed she slept on. At first, the messages were just warnings.
