Starting point is 00:01:02 The Andromeda case, part two. When Andromeda discovered that Jesus had been cheating on her yet again, it felt like the final stab in the back. She had already endured years of disappointments, endless nights of loneliness, his drunken outbursts, his violence, his betrayals. But this time, there was something extra cruel about it. Along with his infidelities came reckless spending.
Starting point is 00:01:28 He wasn't just betraying her. emotionally, he was also draining the family's finances, leaving her with the impossible task of holding everything together with scraps. One evening, after confronting him, things escalated in the ugliest way possible. Jesus responded not with remorse, not with apologies, not even with indifference. Instead, he unleashed raw violence. He kicked her, hard, repeatedly. The blows were so brutal that Andromeda had to be rushed to the
Starting point is 00:02:00 hospital. She was pregnant at the time, and the doctors feared she might lose the baby. He still kicked me, even when I was pregnant. That's how I ended up in the hospital, almost losing my child, she would later admit in a trembling voice. From that point on, the rest of her pregnancy was spent confined to a hospital bed. She couldn't move much, couldn't live a normal daily life. Everything revolved around keeping the baby alive. After months of uncertainty in medical monitoring, her daughter was finally born premature, at seven months. They named her Kayla Elizabeth. Family, friends, even strangers who heard about what had happened, often advised her to press charges against Jesus for domestic violence.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Don't stay with him, he's dangerous, protect yourself and your kids, some would tell her. But others gave her the opposite advice, don't go to the police, it'll be. only make things worse. Think about the children. If you fight him legally, the government might take your kids away. Andromeda did seek legal advice at one point. But to her surprise and dismay, the lawyers she consulted didn't encourage her to pursue justice. Instead, they told her to try to work things out with her husband. One even suggested marriage counseling, as if therapy could fix the years of trauma, the broken bones, the bruises, the scars she carried in her heart. They warned her that a legal battle might result in her losing custody, that the state could
Starting point is 00:03:38 intervene and place her children in foster care. So in the end, paralyzed by fear, pressure, and doubt, she did nothing. She chose silence. She chose to keep enduring. She stayed at home, locked in that cycle, dedicating herself entirely to rest. raising her three kids. There were moments of calm, but also frequent storms of aggression and despair. By that time, everyone in her close circle knew what was happening behind closed doors. Neighbors, relatives, acquaintances, they were aware of the shouting, the fights, the tears.
Starting point is 00:04:17 But none of them could have predicted how far things would spiral, how this story would soon explode into one of the darkest, most disturbing tragedies in Monterey's history. September 2nd, 2015, the day everything collapsed. On September 2nd, 2015, things finally boiled over. A heated argument between Andromeda and Jesus turned into chaos. Fueled by rage and desperation, Andromeda grabbed a sharp kitchen knife and lunged at him. The attack was brutal enough that Jesus had to be rushed to the hospital. His injuries were severe, though not fatal.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Surprisingly, despite what had happened, Jesus didn't press charges. He could have had her arrested right then, but he didn't. People close to them later said the couple sat down afterwards, shaken but still somehow bound together and agreed to, try to fix their marriage. Jesus promised he would turn his life around. He said he would start attending a Christian church and seek help for his drinking problem. Andromeda, for her part, agreed that she would go through psychological treatment. It sounded like a pact, like one last attempt at saving a shipwreck that had been sinking
Starting point is 00:05:35 for years. But just a few days later, Jesus broke his promise. He backed out. He slipped back into his old ways, refusing to follow through with the plan. That's when someone, nobody knows exactly who, gave Andromeda a piece of advice that would change everything. This mysterious person told her that if Jesus wouldn't get help on his own, she should force him. She should have him committed to a rehabilitation center against his will. And so, clinging to the desperate hope of saving her marriage, she made the decision.
Starting point is 00:06:13 On the morning of September 7, 2015, a group of men arrived at their house. They restrained Jesus, forced him into a stray jacket. It was like a kidnapping, but in her mind, Andromeda believed she was saving him. Afterwards, she went to his law office, turned in his computer, and informed his colleagues that he would be, interned for treatment. Jesus' mother, however, was furious. She didn't see this as an act of love or salvation. To her, it was suspicious, malicious even. She went straight to the authorities and filed a report against her daughter-in-law. She claimed her son had disappeared, that Andromeda might have harmed him. Officially, the complaint was registered
Starting point is 00:08:02 as a forced disappearance. But here's the shocking part, even with that serious accusation on record, no one from law enforcement bothered to go check the house. Instead, later that same day, one of Jesus' business partners went to the rehab center himself and managed to get Jesus released. He returned home soon after. Neighbors would later testify that they heard shouting that evening. Andromeda screamed that she wouldn't let him take the kids away from her. Jesus stormed out, slamming the door behind him. Witnesses say he wandered around the city for hours before eventually heading back to the house late at night. When he arrived, he found the front door locked. Accompanied by police officers, he forced the door open. What they discovered inside
Starting point is 00:08:55 left everyone speechless. A nightmare unveiled. The scene inside the house was described by one of the officers as pure horror. Blood everywhere, the air heavy with the smell of violence and despair. The children, three innocent little souls, lay injured. Two, one. were still alive but gravely wounded. One, little Kayla, showed no signs of life. Andromeda herself was also found, wounded, hiding in a corner of the room. Paramedics rushed to the house immediately. They tried everything they could, but Kayla had already passed away. The other two children, said in Lesha, were taken to different hospitals for emergency care. During the investigation, police found crucial pieces of evidence.
Starting point is 00:09:50 The weapon believed to have been used was a kitchen utensil. They also discovered several handwritten letters in the bedroom where the children had been. These letters were addressed to different family members. After reading them, investigators came to a chilling conclusion. The attack wasn't random, nor was it an accident. It had been premeditated. In the letters, Andromeda expressed her plan. She wrote about her intention to take her children's lives and then her own.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Her reasoning, as twisted as it might sound, was that she couldn't bear the thought of Jesus taking them away from her. This discovery became the cornerstone of the prosecution's case. They argued that out of fear of losing custody, Andromeda had carried out a desperate and irreversible act. Toxicology reports revealed that she had, had benzodiazepines in her system, a medication often used for anxiety. While the dose wasn't high enough to kill her, it was strong enough to sedate her heavily. Authorities believed she had taken the pills before or during the incident, possibly as part of her plan. But when Andromeda eventually regained consciousness in the hospital, her version of events
Starting point is 00:11:06 was completely different. She claimed she remembered nothing. She asked about her children, apparently unaware of what had happened. According to medical staff, she even begged to see them. Her family, devastated and terrified, refused to tell her the truth right away. The tragedy deepens. Meanwhile, said, the eldest, began recovering in a private hospital. Doctors were hopeful about his survival. But Lesha, just two years old, wasn't so lucky. On September 13th, six days after the attack, she passed away. The wound she had sustained in her heart had damaged an artery beyond repair. By the time Andromeda was released from the hospital, she still had no clear memory of what had occurred.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Her family continued to shield her from the truth. They didn't tell her that two of her children were gone. They didn't tell her that she was the main suspect in their deaths. That revelation only came later in the cold, sterile environment of the legal system. When the prosecutor officially read the charges against her, she finally understood. Colleenie, did you know of your age between 25 and 65? Well, you can get a free HPV cervical check. Starting point is 00:13:57 ...accused of killing her own baby. Her reaction was immediate and devastating. She collapsed, screaming, crying uncontrollably. Witnesses said she had a full hysterical breakdown, as if the weight of the reality crushed her all at once. The aftermath, shockwaves through the city. The news spread like wildfire. Monterey woke up to headlines that seemed ripped straight out of a horror novel, mother accused of killing her children. People couldn't believe it. The idea that a young mother, who until then had been seen by neighbors as quiet and reserved, could be
Starting point is 00:14:37 behind such violence, it shattered everyone's sense of normalcy. Talk shows, newspapers, even social media users dissected every detail. Everyone had an opinion, some painted Andromeda as a cold-blooded monster. Others saw her as a broken woman pushed to the edge by years of abuse. In coffee shops and offices, people debated endlessly. She must have snapped. No sane woman would do that unless she was completely destroyed inside. Come on, letters don't lie. She wrote her plan down. That's premeditation.
Starting point is 00:15:18 But what about him? What about Jesus? Years of infidelity, beatings, humiliation. Nobody talks about that. The city was divided. Meanwhile, inside the courtroom, prosecutors built their case with children. in precision. They presented the letters, the weapon, the toxicology report, the testimonies
Starting point is 00:15:42 of neighbors who had heard the arguments. They described the nightmarish scene the officers found when they entered the house. For them, it was simple, Andromeda had killed one child, mortally wounded another, and attempted to kill the third. They argued that she had done it out of spite, out of the selfish desire to prevent Jesus from ever having custody. Her defense, however, painted a very different picture. They portrayed her as a victim of battered woman syndrome, a psychological condition where prolonged abuse creates a state of learned helplessness, leading to irrational and desperate acts. They claimed she had no real memory of the events, that the benzodiazepines in her system could have impaired her judgment or even induced partial
Starting point is 00:16:28 amnesia. Andromeda herself sat through the proceedings in visible torment. Sometimes she cried quietly, other times she appeared lost, as if she were listening to someone else's story rather than her own. Inside her mind, a descent into darkness. Psychologists were brought in to evaluate her. Their reports added layers of complexity to the case. They described a woman who had lived in a constant cycle of fear, abuse, and control. Years of violence from Jesus had eroded her sense of self-worth.
Starting point is 00:17:05 His betrayals left her humiliated. His alcoholism created an unstable, volatile environment. Andromeda had been isolated from meaningful support. Lawyers had discouraged her, family members had pressured her to keep the marriage together for the children. Her mental health had deteriorated into a fragile state. She suffered from anxiety, depression, and signs of trauma-related dissociation. According to some experts, when she actually... on September 2nd, she might have been experiencing a psychotic break, a moment where reality
Starting point is 00:17:40 itself becomes blurred. Still, others rejected this explanation. They pointed to the letters as proof of clear planning, not a spontaneous breakdown. The fact that she had written her intentions down, even explaining her motivation, was hard to argue against. Life Behind Bars After being formally charged, Andromatican, was sent to prison while awaiting trial. The women's correctional facility became her new reality.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Prison life is brutal, especially for women accused of harming children. Inmates who had committed other crimes looked at her with contempt. Some whispered behind her back, others openly insulted her. She was often isolated for her own safety. And yet, paradoxically, some fellow inmates sympathized with her story. many of them had also lived through abuse, had also endured violent partners. To them... She wasn't a monster, but rather a reflection of what could happen when society fails women over and over again. Her days in prison were monotonous.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Wake up, line up, eat bland food, sit in the yard, think. Too much time to think. She often wrote in notebooks, trying to process her. emotions. Some entries were filled with regret, others with confusion. One phrase she wrote repeatedly was, I just wanted to protect them. I never wanted them to suffer more than I did. Jesus, the other side of the coin. And what about Jesus? He survived the attack from September 2nd, and later became a central figure in the trial. To see some, he was the victim, a father who had lost two children at the hands of his wife. To others,
Starting point is 00:20:42 he was the trigger, the man whose years of abuse had pushed Andromeda into the abyss. In interviews, he often portrayed himself as heartbroken, devastated by the loss. But critics noticed he rarely acknowledged his role in the toxic, violent environment that had led to the tragedy. His history of drinking, cheating, and beating his wife was undeniable, yet in the eyes of the law, none of that justified what she had done. Jesus' mother, who had filed the disappearance complaint days before the murders, also became a vocal figure. She demanded justice for her grandchildren. Her grief turned into anger, directed squarely at her daughter-in-law. Public opinion, monster or martyr.
Starting point is 00:21:29 The case divided Monterey, and eventually, the entire country. Some media outlets sensationalized the story, dubbing her La Madre Infanticida. They painted her as a cruel, heartless killer who had betrayed the most sacred bond of motherhood. Others, especially feminist groups and human rights activists, saw her differently. To them, she was a tragic example of how the system fails women. They argued that if society had listened to her earlier cries for help, if lawyers hadn't told her stay with her abuser, if neighbors had intervened, maybe none of this would have happened. Marches were organized. Some carried signs demanding justice for the children.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Others carried signs demanding justice for Andromeda. The courtroom became not just a place of trial, but a stage for a national debate on gender violence, mental health, and motherhood. The trial When the trial finally began in full, it lasted weeks. Witnesses testified, experts debated, the media covered every detail. Prosecutors focused on the evidence, the knife, the letters, the toxicology report. They reminded the jury of the brutality of the crime. They emphasized that two children were dead, and one had barely survived.
Starting point is 00:22:57 The defense countered by highlighting years. of abuse. They presented psychological evaluations. They argued that Andromeda had been driven to a point of madness, that she wasn't fully in control of her actions. The courtroom atmosphere was suffocating. Every word felt heavy. Every image, every piece of evidence, every tear from the surviving child or from family members, each moment added more weight to the unbearable scale of justice. When Andromeda was given the chance to speak, she broke down completely. Between sobs, she said, I don't even remember that night. All I know is that I loved them. I loved my children more than my own life. If I did this, then I must have been out of my mind. Because in my heart,
Starting point is 00:23:50 I could never want to hurt them. The verdict. After end of my heart, after end of my heart, I was a Endless days of testimony, the jury reached its decision. Andromeda was found guilty of the deaths of Kayla and Lesha, and the attempted murder of said. The sentence was decades in prison, a punishment that would effectively keep her behind bars for most of her life. When the verdict was read, her reaction was haunting. She didn't scream, she didn't cry. She simply froze, as if her body had turned to stone. It was as if the weight of everything, her lost children, her broken life, the endless suffering, had finally crushed her completely.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Epilogue, A Story with No Winners Years later, people still talk about the Andromeda case. For some, it's a cautionary tale about the hidden dangers of domestic violence. For others, it's simply one of the darkest tragedies in recent memory. The truth is, there were no winners here. Two innocent children lost their lives. A third child grew up carrying the scars, both physical and emotional, of that night. A mother spends her life in prison, haunted by what she may or may not remember.
Starting point is 00:25:15 A father lives with grief, but also with the unspoken guilt of having contributed to the chain of events. A city was left with a wound that never fully healed. And maybe the harshest lesson of all is this, tragedies like these don't appear out of nowhere. They are the result of years of silence, neglect, and systemic failure. If someone had intervened earlier, if someone had truly listened, maybe those children would still be alive. Said, the survivor. Said was only a child when everything happened. Too young to fully understand, yet old enough for his mind to carry pieces of that night forever.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Doctor said his physical recovery was a miracle. The wounds were severe, but with surgeries, constant monitoring, and sheer resilience, his little body healed. But emotional wounds don't leave scars you can stitch up. They linger, invisible but heavy. At first, he didn't talk much. In fact, for months, he barely spoke at all. Psychologists said it was his way of protecting himself, his brain shutting down the horror. When he did start speaking again, it was in fragments, questions about his
Starting point is 00:26:35 sisters, questions about his mother. His family, the paternal side, took custody of him. They tried their best, showering him with affection, distracting him with toys, enrolling him in therapy. But no matter how hard they tried, there was always a shadow behind his eyes. At school, said was quiet, sometimes withdrawn. Other kids didn't know his story at first, but eventually, rumors spread. Children can be cruel, and some taunted him. Your mom is a killer. Those words cut deeper than any wound. Therapists worked with him over the years to untangle the confusion inside him. He struggled with questions most children never have to face.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Can I still love my mom if she hurt my sisters? Was it my fault? If I hadn't been born, maybe none of this would have happened. Do I have the same darkness inside me? The hardest part was the duality. Said had memories of his mother's affection, her hugs, her lullabies, her warmth. Yet, he also carried the knowledge of what she had done, or what she was accused of doing.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Reconciling those two versions of Andromeda became the lifelong challenge of his existence. Letters from prison. Over time, Andromeda tried to reconnect with him. From prison, she wrote him letters. Sometimes they were full of love, telling him how proud she was of him, how he was her reason for living.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Other times, they were drenched in regret, apologizing for things she said she couldn't even remember doing. The letters became a source of conflict. Jesus' family didn't want said to read them, arguing they would only reopen wounds. But said, growing older, insisted on seeing them. He needed to hear her side, even if it hurt. One particular letter stood out. My sweet said, I don't know if you'll ever understand me or forgive me.
Starting point is 00:28:50 I don't even understand myself. All I can say is that I loved you and your sisters, more than anything in this world. If I failed you, it wasn't because I didn't love you. It was because I was broken. Please don't carry my mistakes as your burden. For said, the letters were both a comfort and a torment. Comfort, because they reminded him of the love she had given him in better times. Torment, because they forced him to confront him.
Starting point is 00:29:20 the impossible paradox of loving someone who had destroyed his family. The ripple effect, how the case changed conversations in Mexico. The Andromeda case didn't stay confined to one family. It sparked a nationwide conversation. Journalists, activists, and lawmakers debated furiously, how could something like this happen? What cracks in the system allowed this tragedy to unfold? One, domestic violence awareness. For many, the case was a brutal wake-up call.
Starting point is 00:29:58 It showed the devastating consequences of ignoring domestic abuse. Andromeda had sought legal advice, had tried to find solutions, but was essentially told to, make it work. That advice cost lives. Shelters and women's rights organizations used the case to demand stronger protections. They argued that women in abuse. relationships often face impossible choices and without proper support, some spiral into desperation.
Starting point is 00:30:29 2. Mental Health Conversations The case also highlighted the stigma around mental health. If Andromeda had received proper psychological care earlier, long before reaching the breaking point, maybe she would never have hurt her children. Psychologists pushed for better access to therapy, particularly for women in violent households. They stressed that untreated trauma can lead to catastrophic outcomes, not just for the victim, but for everyone around them. Three, legal system criticism. Critics also attacked the legal system. Why had lawyers advised her to stay? Why hadn't authorities
Starting point is 00:31:12 intervened after repeated reports of violence? Why was the disappearance complaint by Jesus' mother dismissed so casually. Each unanswered question exposed the cracks in institutions meant to protect families. Media and society, a divided narrative. Years later, documentaries and true crime programs revisited the story. Each told it differently. Some framed it as the tale of a killer mother. Others framed it as a tragedy of systemic neglect. Some went even deeper, analyzing it through the lens of gender inequality in Mexico. In living rooms across the country, people still argued about it.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Was Andromeda a villain or a victim? Could both be true at once? Said as an adult, carrying the weight. As Ced grew older, the weight of his past didn't vanish. Instead, it evolved. In his teenage years, he faced identity crises. He often asked himself if he was destined to repeat the mistakes of his parents. Would he become abusive like his father?
Starting point is 00:32:29 Would he lose control like his mother? Therapy helped, but doubts lingered. Eventually, he found solace in studying psychology himself. He wanted to understand trauma, memory, and the human mind, not just for his own safety. but to help others. For said, turning his pain into purpose became the only way forward. He rarely spoke publicly about the tragedy, but those who knew him described him as deeply empathetic, always willing to listen, always cautious not to judge. Perhaps surviving such horror had given him a unique sensitivity to the struggles of others. A legacy written in pain.
Starting point is 00:33:12 The Andromeda case left scars on everyone involved. but it also left lessons. Painful, heartbreaking lessons that society couldn't afford to ignore. It showed that domestic violence is never, just a private matter. It proved that ignoring mental health can destroy entire families. It revealed the flaws of legal advice that prioritizes appearances over safety. And above all, it reminded everyone that tragedies don't happen in isolation, are the product of years of silence and neglect. Final thoughts.
Starting point is 00:33:52 There's no neat ending here. No redemption arc that ties everything up with hope. Life rarely works that way. Andromeda remains in prison, a tragic figure haunted by what she did, or what she says she doesn't remember doing. Jesus carries the grief of losing two daughters, while knowing his actions may have fueled the storm. said, the lone survivor carries the heaviest burden of all, the memory of a night that stole his innocence forever.
Starting point is 00:34:24 And society? Society carries the responsibility of asking hard questions, so that maybe, just maybe, no other family has to live through a nightmare like this again.
