So they left the park and Jeff went back home, where he discovered that everything was full of police officers.
The police had no suspects, no leads.
The Pell family had no enemies, no debts, no problems.
And their only real problem was inside the house, and his name was Jeff.
A week before the dance, Jeff had been arrested for trespassing, and Bob, as a punishment, forbade him from going to the dance.
However, as days went by, the man changed his mind and told him he could go to the dance,
but if he wanted to go, he would accompany him. He would drive him to pick up his girlfriend,
stay with him the entire night, endure the dance until the end, and then take him straight home.
No friends, no more parties, no sleepovers at anyone's house.
Bob would not leave his side the whole night, and of course, Jeff agreed. To have that night,
he preferred that to nothing, and he swore to his girlfriend that he would fix it, that he would
talk to his father, that he would make it work, that they would go to the dance, and on Saturday
the 29th, it seemed he had solved it. Not only did he pick up his girlfriend, not only did he go
to the dance, but he also spent the night at her house, and the next day they went to the amusement
park. So for the police, this was the motive for the crime. The night of the dance arrives.
Jeff wants to leave.
Bob refuses.
In a fit of rage, he grabs the shotgun and shoots his father.
But Don and the two little girls are witnesses, so he goes down to the basement and kills them too.
He takes the tuxedo, the shotgun, walks out the door, locks everything up, gets in the car, disposes of the shotgun, and drive straight to his friend's house.
He changes clothes, gets rid of the old ones, takes pictures with his girl friends.
friend, goes to the dance, and spends the rest of the night having a great time.
It was a very, very short period of time in which the family could have been murdered,
and it was very clear that the only person who could have done it was Jeff.
Everyone knew that this boy had a very explosive, very dominant character.
He fit as a suspect, but at the crime scene, there was no evidence, no weapon, no fingerprints,
no witnesses, just suspicions, assumptions.
And with assumptions, you can't arrest anyone.
And since he was a minor, he was interrogated alongside two grandparents, who supported him the
entire time.
He denied everything, said he knew nothing, and his two sisters also knew nothing.
Jackie said Jeff was incapable of hurting anyone, and nine-year-old Jessica said that for her,
the culprit was her stepfather, that in her mind, Bob killed her mother and sisters
and then killed himself, because in her eyes Bob was capable of that.
So the case remained unsolved.
That summer, Jessica was sent to a church camp with her best friend Stephanie.
Her family tried to make everything as normal as possible, and they tried the same with the
older children.
But the problem was that nothing would ever be the same again.
They had no parents, no little sisters.
The three were completely traumatized.
Jessica was sent to her maternal family in Michigan and the others to the paternal family in Florida.
They lived separate lives, distanced from the past, and Jessica never saw her best friend again,
because according to the family, that was for the best.
They couldn't write to each other, they couldn't call each other, and due to the trauma,
everything in her mind turned upside down.
She became rebellious, started running away from home, and eventually ended up in foster care,
but eventually, she got back on track. At 15 years old, Jeff contacted her. He called,
asked how she was, and invited her to his house, an apartment in Florida. By then, Jeff was married,
had a wife, and in time would also have a son. They welcomed her, made her dinner,
everything was wonderful, perfect. But at the end of the day, Jeff asked her a question,
who did she think killed them all? Jessica replied that her
father still thought Bob was responsible, and at her answer, Jeff said nothing. The years passed.
She turned 18, received her inheritance, and with that money bought a house. Time kept passing.
She married a man named Tyson Torren, and with him had two children. Jessica's life was as
normal as could be. She had stability, normality, she moved on. But in 2002, two agents knocked on her
door and told her that her family's case was being reopened and that they needed to know what
she thought, they wanted to interrogate her again, know her version, and also know what she thought
of Jeff Pelly, because to them, Jeff was the main suspect. That was the first time Jessica
heard the police version, and for the first time, everything made sense. Over time, this man was
charged with four counts of murder. And upon hearing this news, there's so much rugby on sports

Jessica broke down.
She had spent her entire life believing that the culprit was her stepfather,
but now, thinking that the responsible one was her stepbrother, everything in her mind completely
changed. Memories surfaced that she believed were completely erased. However, the defense raised
new doubts, and when I mention them, you will be shocked. The trial began on July 11, 2006, and the
defense argued the following. On one hand, the motive for the crime, a dance, was not enough.
Nobody would kill their family over a simple dance, and in any case, he would have killed his father, not the rest of the family.
The prosecution argued that they were eyewitnesses, that Don and the girls could call the police,
and they also argued that there was a lot of resentment, but in any case, the resentment would have been toward Don, not the girls.
On the other hand, there was no physical evidence, no fingerprints, no murder weapon.
Where was all of that?
Was he guilty simply because there was no evidence?
And then there was the timing.
How did he do everything?
How was it so fast?
He would have had about 10 or 15 minutes at most.
He had to kill them all, lock the doors, get in a car, get rid of the shotgun,
go to his friend's house, change clothes, and the clothes he was wearing had no blood stains.
In fact, those clothes were never found.
And then we have his behavior throughout the dance, he was happy, laughing, ecstatic.
He posed for pictures with a big smile, and his behavior was completely normal.
Everyone who was with Jeff that night described him as just another one of the group having fun.
To think that he could spend the whole night doing everything they did and simply enjoying himself
like a kid after killing his entire family is absurd.
However, the prosecution pointed out two important things.
The first was a feeling he had the next morning at the amusement park.
He told his girlfriend that he felt like something had happened to his family, which could be translated as remorse.
And secondly, there was a sort of confession in an interrogation.
Allegedly, the boy, alone with a police officer, asked if confessing would mean the death penalty.
But after that, he changed the subject.
According to the defense, these points made no sense.
A feeling is not proof of anything, and a teenager asking about the death penalty also doesn't make sense.
He could be scared, confused, not knowing what to think.
A simple sentence proves nothing.
Nonetheless, the trial continued.
In total, there were more than 50 witnesses, and they all talked about the terrible relationship Bob had with his son,
that he was problematic, rebellious, always getting into trouble.
And when Jessica spoke, she confessed that she was still traumatized.
In the present, she was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder, which is characterized
by the existence of two or more identities.
After the event, she no longer saw herself as Jessica but rather as Jesse.
She could no longer remember who her best friend was because that best friend had been
Jessica's friend, not Jesse's.
And sadly, this happened with many other things, her best friend,
childhood memories, events, it happened with many things, and sadly, she felt like she could
never get over it, that she would never overcome what happened that weekend in 1989.
On July 21st, 2006, a jury declared Jeff Pelly guilty of the murder of Bob, Don, Janelle,
and Jolene Pelly. And on October 17th of that same year, he was sentenced to 160 years in prison.
However, more than 30 years after these crimes, Jeff Pelley's
case is still ongoing in the courts. His new legal team has filed a post-conviction relief petition.
In fact, they even created a website where they share every development, explain the process,
what they are trying to do, and repeatedly state that Jeff is innocent and that the charges
against him were the result of a political maneuver. The latest update on that website was on
April 7, 2025, so we could say that this case is still active today and that the legal team
is still fighting.
But that's not all.
Jackie, the older sister,
also writes on the website,
and I must tell you that she completely
disagrees with what Jessica says.
I am one of the two daughters.

Who testified in court, and in fact, Jeff was allowed to go to the prom and the subsequent events that weekend.
In fact, Jessica was the one who told the police that her mother had told her Jeff would be at Great America.
Despite what she now claims, she also stated this in court.
So if you have useful information, we would love to know.
But if you just want to send hate messages, go ahead.
Basically, according to Jackie, the revenge theory makes no sense because Jeff was going to the dance anyway.
So now it's your turn.
What do you think about the case?
Do you believe Jeff is guilty or innocent?
The end.
