Let's start this story with something that might seem completely normal at first glance,
a LinkedIn profile.
It belonged to a woman with a name you don't forget easily, Winterick Swan Miller.
Yep, that's her full name.
Sounds almost like a character from a fantasy novel, right?
She was born on November 13, 1986, in a small English town called Derbyshire.
On paper, she seemed like just another regular person trying to make her way in life.
Her profile described her as self-employed, working as a dog trainer, caretaker, and dog walker.
If you scrolled through her LinkedIn, you'd see this in her About Me section.
Hi, I'm Winter, nice to meet you.
I'm currently looking for a new role in the animal care sector, especially with dogs.
I've got experience in handling, caring for, and walking dogs.
I know a lot about different breeds and how to adapt to their specific needs.
After some careful and thorough training, I've started breeding elite dogs.
I'd love to keep doing this on a bigger scale, with more challenges and new skills.
I'm looking for a dog care job in Santiago, preferably working with protection or guard dogs.
I also want to make it clear that I have the skills and requirements needed to reach my goals.
I'm willing to travel anywhere in the world at any time.
I'm extremely flexible.
I'm very determined and motivated to achieve my objectives, and I'm passionate about hard work.
My life goal is to succeed both with animals and people.
At first glance, totally normal.
She came off as someone with a clear head on her shoulders.
She sounded motivated, balanced, educated, and with solid life goals.
But, and here's where everything takes a sharp turn, Winter was nothing like the person she presented online.
Her life story, once you scratch beneath the surface, was messy.
Messy in ways that make you wonder how she even held it together for as long as she did.
Childhood, the calm before the storm, Winter's childhood started out, well, pretty normal.
The first seven years of her life were nothing out of the ordinary.
She was the daughter of a single mother, who, by all accounts, gave her everything, love, affection, a good education.
Winter grew up as a sweet, affectionate, polite kid. People who knew her said she was caring,
sincere, and well-behaved. She did find in school, didn't cause trouble, and wasn't the
type to fight with other kids. And then, her father showed up. This man, her biological dad,
had been out of the picture since her birth. Nobody really knows why he suddenly decided to
appear when Winter was around seven. Maybe guilt. Maybe guilt. Maybe
boredom. Maybe he just wanted to assert some control. Whatever his reasons, his timing couldn't have
been worse. He wasn't a consistent presence, either. He'd pop in here and there, for holidays,
long weekends, birthdays. Sometimes, when it was his turn to see her, he just wouldn't show up at all.
No call. No explanation. Nothing. But when he did show up. Oh, he made day. He made day. He made
damn sure Winter knew her place. And what was that place, according to him? Being unwanted.
He'd tell her, straight to her face, that she was a mistake, that she was worthless, ugly, fat,
useless. That he would never love her. That no one would ever love her. That she would never be
his favorite, and if he didn't care about her, no one else would. Can you imagine hearing that as a
little kid? From your own dad. A dangerous lesson. Winter was also painfully shy, which made her an easy
target at school. Other kids bullied her for it, as kids do. And one day, her dad gave her some advice.
And I put advice in quotes because, honestly, this was the kind of advice that ruins a person.
He told her, if someone's going to hit you, you hit them first. For him, this was a way to toughen her
for Winter. It was a switch that flipped in her head. She started fighting. A lot. She started
getting into trouble, picking fights, disrespecting people, all because she believed that's how she had to survive.
This one comment completely rewired her personality. Changing for her father. By the time she hit
11 or 12, Winter started changing how she looked. She began dyeing her hair blonde, wearing makeup,
and dressing older than her age.
Why?
To get her dad's attention.
She was desperate for him to notice her, to see her as worthy.
But his reaction, he hated it.
Instead of trying to understand why his daughter was acting out, he saw it as some sort of rebellion.
His punishment?
He shaved her head completely bald.
Can you imagine?
You're about to start secondary school, already feeling awkward in your changing body.
hormones all over the place, and your dad punishes you in a way that guarantees you'll be bullied.
And bullied she was.
Badly.
Her attempt to get his love backfired horribly.
The spiral down.
From there, her behavior only got worse.
More fights.
More conflicts.
More trouble.
And what did her dad do?
Punish her even more.
One day, he showed up at her mom's house.
kidnapped her, and kept her for five months. Five months. No one knows exactly what happened
during that time. Her mom reported her missing. The police got involved. And then, out of nowhere,
he just brought Winter back and disappeared from her life forever. But whatever happened in those
five months, it broke her. Drugs, bad love, and self-destruction. By 14, Winter was being
homeschooled. She'd started hanging out with older, shady people, and soon, she was doing drugs.
And then came the first really toxic relationship, a 26-year-old man. Winter was still a teenager.
This man treated her even worse than her father ever did. He destroyed her self-esteem completely.
By the time she managed to leave him at 18, the damage was done. She tried. She really did.
Tried to study, tried to build a future.
But her addiction had its claws in her.
She couldn't quit.
And the drugs only made her more aggressive, manipulative, and unstable.
She also became incredibly emotionally dependent.
She would jump from one relationship to another, using people for whatever she needed and moving on quickly.
Her life revolved around drugs, drama, and relationships.
prison and a glimpse of stability. In 2009, she was arrested and sent to prison for allegedly
committing an assault. And weirdly enough, prison seemed to help her. When she got out,
she actually seemed, okay. Like she'd found some direction. She entered a relationship with a
woman named Natalie, which lasted five years. It was stable, healthy, and for the first time in her
life, Winter had peace. They even got a Pomeranian named Oblivion, she treated that dog like her baby.
Winter posted endless pictures and videos of him. Oblivion was her world. She even started working
with dogs full-time, training, grooming, walking. But then, tragedy struck again. Natalie died.
And just like that, Winter's world collapsed. Tick-Tock, fame, and addiction. By 35,000,
Five, Winter was lost again.
So she did what a lot of people do these days when they're lost, she opened a TikTok account.
At first, it was harmless.
Fun dances.
Lip sinks.
Cued videos with her dog and mom.
But then she noticed something.
The more provocative she was, the more followers she got.
And she liked the attention.
No, she craved it.
Soon, her content got more.
suggestive, and her following exploded. Most of her comments were from men, praising her looks,
her body, her style. She became addicted to the validation. Combined that with emotional instability,
drug use, and unresolved trauma. You get someone spiraling out of control. In 2022, her mother died.
And that's when she completely fell apart. She spent hundreds of pounds a day on drugs.
Enter Stuart. That's when she met Stuart Maxwell Crocker, a 62-year-old army veteran who also
struggled with PTSD and addiction. Stuart was very different from Winter. He had been married,
had kids, grandkids even. But he was also isolated, depressed, and self-medicating with drugs and
alcohol. In February 2023, they met through a dealer. And just a week later, Winter asked if she could
move in with him. And that's where things start to really unravel. To be continued.
