Starting point is 00:00:00 It all started in one of the most unexpected ways. You know how sometimes people just randomly meet, nothing deep, nothing special. That's how it was when Stuart first met Winter. They didn't hit it off like some whirlwind romance. They didn't even have that kind of tension between them. They were just acquaintances. That's all. He was a 62-year-old man, dealing with more personal baggage than most of us could imagine,
Starting point is 00:00:28 and she was 37, young enough to be his daughter. That's probably exactly how he saw her at first, as someone much younger, with no real place in his personal life. But if you've been alive long enough, you know that sometimes the most random encounters snowball into something bigger than anyone could predict. And that's exactly what happened here. Winter came into Stewart's life in February 2023. At first, their interactions were surface level, nothing meaningful. But within a week, just a week, she dropped this huge suggestion, she wanted to move in with him. Can you imagine?
Starting point is 00:01:07 You meet someone, you barely know them, and then boom, they want to share your space. Stuart, at this point, wasn't doing well. His mental state. Fragile. His medication. Not working. His support system. Non-existent.
Starting point is 00:01:26 He was lonely, deeply. misunderstood, isolated, and just plain broken down. So when Winter came along, offering what looked like companionship and support, he didn't think twice. He agreed. He let her move in. Now, there are two sides to how this happened, depending on which version you believe. The first is the one that Winter herself painted, all about companionship, mutual support, sharing expenses, spending time together, and even helping him out with his medical appointments. That's the wholesome version. It's the one where she was his friend, maybe even a caretaker of sorts. But then there's the second version, the one that's much darker. According to this account, Winter's apartment had been
Starting point is 00:02:12 ransacked by a group of drug addicts. Everything was destroyed. She supposedly had nowhere to live, no safe place to go. So, she told Stuart her situation, asked if she could move in with him, and he said yes, mostly because he was so desperate for company and already in such a vulnerable state. Whether it was true or just part of her act, we may never know. But either way, she moved in. And once she did, she took over. Fast. It wasn't just that she redecorated and rearranged his home. She became a the absolute ruler of the place. She controlled everything, when he took his medication, how he took it, what he told his doctors, when he saw them, and even how those appointments
Starting point is 00:03:00 went. She was with him constantly, almost like a shadow. But this wasn't some sweet, nurturing presence. It was domination, plain and simple. Stuart's family could tell something was off immediately. They didn't trust her. They only needed to see her a couple of of times to know she wasn't what she appeared to be. Manipulator was the word that came to mind. And they weren't wrong. Winter controlled Stewart's finances, his schedule, his movements, his social life, every single thing. He couldn't go anywhere or do anything without her knowing. Even the neighbors picked up on it. And then there was Winter's dog, oblivion. Funny thing is, as soon as she moved in, Stewart was the one who took care of it. He walked the dog, fed it, handled all the responsibilities.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Winter. She didn't bother. She was busy making content for social media. That's what she really cared about. But things didn't stay static. From February to May 23, Winter's behavior escalated, like, rapidly. Her social media content became more provocative, more aggressive, and she herself became more unpredictable. It was like she was unraveling. By May, she had turned into this volatile, chaotic force in Stewart's life. And that's when the recording started. Winter began following Stewart around the house with a camera, accusing him of all kinds of terrible things, hurting her, abusing her, stealing from her. Stuart, poor guy, just looked confused and terrified in these videos. He didn't even seem to understand what she was
Starting point is 00:04:48 accusing him of. At first, these recordings were short, 10, maybe 15 minutes. But over time, they stretched into hours. Imagine being hounded like that in your own home, by someone you live with. And while she was terrorizing him with these accusations, she was also inviting other men over to the apartment, men she'd do drugs with and sleep with. And all of this was happening right there in Stewart's home. But that's not even the wildest part. At the same time, Winter was writing letters to a man in prison, some guy named Steve. These weren't just friendly letters. They were explicit.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Romantic. She wrote to him like they were in some deep, committed relationship. And guess what? These letters kept passing through prison mail checks, even though she eventually started openly writing about wanting to kill Stewart. Like, in detail. She described what she wanted to do to him. how she wanted to make him suffer, bleed, die, and none of this raised red flags with the prison system. Somehow, nobody caught on. Then came the night of June 23, 2003. Winter and Stuart got into an argument.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Drugs were involved, emotions were high, and Winter, especially, was furious. She accused Stewart of everything under the sun, abandoning her, hurting her, even stealing her dog, oblivion. She claimed he left the door open and someone kidnapped the dog. Other times, she changed the story and said he sold the dog. Stewart denied it all. He told her she was lying, that the drugs were messing with her head. But Winter didn't stop. At some point, she went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and attacked him.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Stewart was sitting on the couch when it happened. She stabbed him, first in the back, then again and again. 26 stab wounds in total. And when she was done stabbing him, she strangled him with a purse strap to make sure he was dead. Afterward, she calmly covered his body with a bed sheet. She wrote notes, mocking, taunting notes, and left them on his body. Things like, how does it feel to be dead? Did you think you could get away with treating me like an idiot?
Starting point is 00:07:12 You took my dog. That's why I did this, and then... She made TikToks. I'm not kidding. She sat on the couch near his body, turned on her phone, and recorded videos confessing to the murder. She talked about how she'd soon be all over the news, how she'd be famous, how her fans could write to her in prison. She even posted one of the videos, while keeping others in drafts, planning to post them later. She wanted this whole thing to unfold like some twisted performance art.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Winter didn't feel guilty at all. She said she did it because Stuart took her dog. She said she didn't regret a thing. And then she left. She wrote another letter to her prison boyfriend, Steve, confessing everything again. Then she went to McDonald's for breakfast, like nothing happened. CCTV footage shows her there, casually chatting with people. Later, she met up with one of her lovers, told him,
Starting point is 00:08:14 she'd be going to prison soon, and flirted with him about visiting her there. Then she met another lover, took him back to Stewart's apartment, showed him the body, did drugs with him, and fled with him to Birmingham for several days. Meanwhile, neighbors were starting to get suspicious. They hadn't seen Stewart in days, but they'd heard winter bragging about being on the news and becoming famous. One neighbor finally called the police on June 28, 2023. When the cops got to Stewart's apartment, they kicked in the door and found everything, the body, the notes, the evidence. It didn't take long to find Winter. They arrested her and the guy she'd fled with, though he was later released. The case was airtight. Winter tried every excuse in the book.
Starting point is 00:09:03 First, she said it was self-defense. But the stab wounds and the fact that she strangled him afterward told a very different story. Then she claimed Stewart had abused him. her, drugged her, sold her body, stolen her money, and even sold her dog. The judge didn't buy any of it. In the end, the court saw Winter for what she was, a manipulative, self-absorbed woman who fantasized about becoming famous for committing a brutal crime. Stuart. He was just the stepping stone she used to get there. She was sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 23 years. The saddest part. The media spotlight stayed on Winter.
Starting point is 00:09:47 She became famous, in her twisted way. But Stuart, he was forgotten. His family later spoke out, describing how Winter had destroyed what little peace he had left after years of PTSD, aging, and alcoholism. They called her a malevolent entity, and they weren't wrong. And that's where the story leaves us. What do you think? Do you believe she really feels no remorse? Or do you think this was all just an act to get attention?
Starting point is 00:10:18 The end.
