Starting point is 00:00:00 This story kicks off with the birth of a girl named Samantha Jane Magin, though pretty much everyone called her Sam. She was born on April 24, 1989, up in the north of England. Second kid of Allison and Stan Madgin. Her older brother was Lee, and her younger sister was Carly. And let me tell you, Sam wasn't one of those people who slipped through life unnoticed, nope, she walked through like she owned the place. Honestly, she kind of did. From day one, Sam had that special kind of spark. That smile. Infectious. The kind of person you meet once and never forget. She had charisma pouring out of her,
Starting point is 00:00:43 charm to spare, and beauty that was more than just skin deep. Blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin sprinkled with freckles, and the personality to match. Sweet, thoughtful, generous, someone you wanted to have around. She was the definition of Radiant. She grew up in Wollson, England, a quiet little town where everyone pretty much knew everyone. The Magins were known to be a lovely family, real salt of the earth types. Friendly, helpful, just good people. Sam. She was a golden child. At school, everyone adored her. Teachers loved her, classmates looked up to her, and she aced her classes too. High school.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Same story. She was the girl you wanted to sit next to, the one everyone talked about, in a good way, the one everyone wanted to be friends with. And she didn't just coast on charm either. As she got older, her look started getting her noticed, really
Starting point is 00:01:45 noticed. She ended up doing some modeling, which snowballed fast. She had a few photo shoots, got scouted, and before long, she was working for a modeling agency in Newcastle. And since Wollson was the kind of town where your business was everyone's business, her name became kind of legendary. So, when her little sister Carly started high school, she didn't come in as Carly Magim, she was Sam Magin's sister.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Period. Not that Carly minded. Actually, she kind of loved it. Being Sam's sister opened doors. people were immediately friendly, welcoming. It was like Sam's good rep rubbed off on her. And for Carly, that was more blessing than burden. But just when everything looked perfect, life hit pause. At 18, with a bright future ahead of her, university plans, maybe a master's, a killer job lined up, and a boyfriend who genuinely seemed to love her, Sam got some news that shook her world. She was pregnant.
Starting point is 00:02:49 For a moment, everything stopped. She thought her life was over. The modeling, the reputation, the love people had for her, all of it, gone. Or so she feared. But then something amazing happened. Everyone rallied around her. Her friends, her family, even people she barely knew in town, everyone showed up for Sam. The pregnancy that could have been a scandal turned into a community event.
Starting point is 00:03:19 She posted everything on social media, ultrasound picks, bump photos, little updates. And people loved it. It wasn't just okay, it was beautiful. She was glowing. Even though it wasn't planned, Sam made it look like it was destiny. Like Callum, her baby boy, born in May 2007, was meant to be here. And from the moment he arrived, he was her world. People were obsessed with their little family.
Starting point is 00:03:49 She had the picture-perfect pregnancy, and early motherhood seemed just as perfect. For the first three months of Callum's life, Sam was glued to him. She did everything right. She was a full-on supermom. But she was still 18. And her family saw that. They told her she should take a break, just a day or two, to relax, have fun, breathe. At first, Sam wasn't into it.
Starting point is 00:04:18 She said her life was callum now, that nothing else mattered. Eventually, though, they convinced her. One afternoon wouldn't kill her. Just a couple of hours with her friends, to get some son and feel young again. Sam finally agreed, but only on one condition, she'd be gone for a single evening. Not a weekend. Not overnight. Just a few hours, and then straight back home.
Starting point is 00:04:47 So that's what they plan. On Thursday, August 2, 2007, Sam called up four of her girlfriends, and they hit the beach. They laughed, played volleyball, took selfies, messed around with cards, just pure carefree fun. And later that night, the girls walked her home. But the second she unlocked her front door, she heard crying. Callum. Her party mood switched off like a light. She ran in, found her little boy being comfortable.
Starting point is 00:05:18 by Carly. Everyone told her it was fine, he was just hungry, a little fussy. They begged her to come back out, told her to relax, that they had things under control. At first, Sam said no. She was staying home, period. But after a bit of back and forth, she gave in. A few more hours wouldn't hurt. It would be the last decision she ever made. It was around 10.30 p.m. when Sam and her friends headed out again, this time to a friend's house, a guy named James. They rang the bell. He came to the door in pajamas, clearly not expecting visitors. The girls tried to drag him out, said they were just looking to hang out, have a drink, chill. James wasn't into it. He'd had a long day, was wiped out. After a few minutes of convincing that went nowhere, they all gave up, said
Starting point is 00:06:15 goodbye, and he locked the door behind them. But just a few minutes later, his doorbell rang again. Over and over. Someone was banging on the door. Screaming. He rushed out of bed, threw on clothes, and opened the door. Standing there was one of Sam's friends. Covered in blood. Hysterical. She was shaking, crying, trying to speak, but nothing came out at first. James tried to calm her down, and finally, she choked out the words. It's Sam. She's been stabbed. She's dead. She's in the street. We called an ambulance. We don't know what to do. Still in his pajamas, James ran. He thought it was some twisted prank, a nightmare. But it was real. Sam was lying in the middle of the street,
Starting point is 00:07:11 bleeding out. The scene was horrific. Blood everywhere. She'd been stabbed so many times, she was unrecognizable. And it didn't take long for sirens and flashing lights to fill the night. By the next morning, the story was all over the news. A statement from the local police said, we received a report of a disturbance in Wollson, in the alley between Victoria Avenue and Albert Avenue, around 11.50 p.m. Upon arrival, we discovered a female victim with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead shortly after. Now comes the wild part, the part that sounds like it's from a movie. Because according to Sam's friends, this is what went down. They were walking down the street, still laughing, still high off their beach trip, when one of them glanced down a nearby alley.
Starting point is 00:08:02 At the end of it stood two figures, a guy and a girl. And the girl? She was walking weird. Like she was drunk or hurt. It felt off. Creepy, even. One of Sam's friends made a quiet comment about how unnerving the woman's walk was, but they didn't stop. They just kept going.
Starting point is 00:08:26 But a few minutes later, those same two people stepped out in front of the group, and they had knives. What followed wasn't just an attack. It was something else. Like a twisted dance. The two strangers would dart toward the group, brandishing their blades, but then pull back. There was a parked car on the street that everyone kept circling. It was like the attackers were toying with them. The girls were screaming, running, trying to get away.
Starting point is 00:08:56 And then, out of nowhere, Sam was down. No one could explain exactly how it was. happened. It was a blur of panic, blades, chaos. One second she was there, the next she was bleeding on the ground. The attackers vanished into the night. No clear motive. No leads. Just a town left shattered and a baby boy left motherless. And that's where things stood, for a long time. To be continued.
