The world was still smouldering, like a cigarette burned down to its bitter end but refusing
to go out completely.
Craters carved the earth into scars, cities were nothing more than skeletons of their former
selves, and the air tasted like ashes and regret.
But amidst the wreckage of the nuclear war, two men emerged as the faces of a new era,
Mike Oxlong in test.
Their paths were destined to cross.
Again.
And this time, it wasn't going to end peacefully.
Mike remembered the first time he saw Test after the war.
It was in the ruins of what used to be a bustling metropolis.
Concrete and glass were splintered across the streets,
and vines had started to crawl over broken billboards like nature itself was trying to cover up the shame of mankind.
Test was standing on a platform in the city square, addressing a crowd of ragged survivors.
His voice carried over the wind, confident and commanding.
Technology, he was saying, is our own.
only hope. If we don't learn from our mistakes and create systems to prevent war, then this
cycle will never end. Mike, leaning against the corner of a crumbling building, felt his fists
clench. This guy. This damn guy. To Mike, Test wasn't just another survivor trying to help.
He was the reason innocent lives were wiped out in the first place. The war, the bombs,
all of it, in Mike's eyes, had Tess's fingerprints all over it.
When they finally locked eyes, it felt like the air between them caught fire.
You've got some nerves standing there like a hero, Mike growled as he stepped forward.
Test didn't flinch.
His jaw tightened.
And you're still living in the past, Mike.
You think anger's going to fix this world.
You think your self-righteous pity parties are helping anyone.
The tension was electric.
Survivors scattered, sensing that two storms were about to collide.
At first, it was just words.
Arguments.
Heated debates in town halls.
People started to take sides, some believing in Mike's vision of healing and rebuilding,
others drawn to tests promise of a future where technology would make war impossible.
But words eventually turned into actions.
And actions became war.
A bitter rivalry.
Mike set up communities, safe havens where survivors could get food, shelter, and a chance to start
over. He taught people how to farm the cracked earth, how to purify water, how to care for one
another. Test, meanwhile, locked himself away in underground bunkers with his engineers and
scientists. He built drones, surveillance systems, and automated defense grids designed to
keep humanity in check. Peace through power, his followers said. Peace through compassion,
Mike countered. The two men became symbols. And as much
as they hated to admit it, they were two sides of the same coin. The breaking point, years passed,
and the tension between them grew hotter than the nuclear fire that had once burned the sky.
Mike watched as Tests' machines started policing survivors, scanning them for weapons, controlling
resources. This isn't peace, Mike told his people. This is a prison. Test, on the other hand,
saw Mike's communities as chaotic, vulnerable to rebellion. He's too soft,
Tess told his inner circle.
The old ways didn't work.
I'm not going to let the world burn again.
They both believed they were right.
And eventually, it became clear, there wasn't room for both of them.
The final battle wasn't planned.
It wasn't some grand spectacle with cheering crowds.
It happened on a rainy night in the middle of a no-man's land,
where rusting tanks and bones littered the mud.
Mike showed up with a small team of loyal fighters.
Test arrived with sleek combat drones buzzing overhead.
No words were exchanged this time.
The rain came down hard as the first shot was fired.
The battle, Mike fought with raw determination, like every swing of his weapon carried the weight
of all the lives lost.
Test fought with precision, his exosuit glowing blue in the dark, amplifying his strength
and speed.
Blades clashed.
Sparks flew.
Blood mixed with rainwater in the dirt.
For hours they battled, neither willing to give in.
You can't save this world, Mike.
Test shouted over the roar of thunder.
You're trying to rebuild something that's already dead, and you can't control it forever,
Test.
Mike fired back.
People don't need chains, they need hope.
Each strike echoed like the clash of Titans.
In the end, it was Mike who landed the final blow.
Test fell to his knees, gasping for air,
blood trickling from a deep gash across his chest. His exosuit flickered and powered down.
Mike stood over him, drenched and trembling, his own body battered and broken. It would have been
easy to end it right there. Forgiveness, but as Mike stared down at his rival, something shifted
in him. Test wasn't a monster. He wasn't some evil mastermind. He was a man, a man carrying as much
guilt and pain as Mike. You were just trying to protect them, weren't you? Mike said softly.
Test looked up, eyes glassy. And so were you, Mike dropped his weapon into the mud.
Enough of this, he said. I'm not your enemy. Not anymore. He held out his hand.
Test hesitated, then took it. A new alliance. Mike nursed test back to health. Slowly,
painfully, the two men began to talk, not as rivals, but as brothers in arms.
I still don't agree with your methods, Mike admitted.
And I don't agree with yours, Test replied.
But maybe, we can find a middle ground.
Together, they started working to combine their visions, technology not for control, but for
empowerment.
Communities supported by science.
Defense systems used to protect, not oppress.
They became partners.
in rebuilding the shattered earth. The legacy, years later, as they stood side-by-side watching
fields of green rise from the wasteland, Mike turned to test. Funny, isn't it, he said.
We tried to kill each other, and now we're saving the world together. Test smirked. Guess we both
needed a wake-up call, their story became legend. A reminder that even the bitterest of enemies
can become allies. That true strength lies not in destruction,
but in forgiveness. And that peace, real peace, is worth every ounce of effort. To be continued.
