Starting point is 00:01:07 stalking us like that, but I've realized something important. Instincts are real. They're not just some overblown nervousness. Their signals your body sends when something's off. Since then, I've learned to listen. That gut feeling that prickled at the back of my neck on that trail. That was legit.
Starting point is 00:01:27 And it saved me and my friend from something I don't even want to imagine. Funny enough, I've also been a long-time fan of your channel. I've watched the videos where you cover first-hand accounts of murders from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Some of the stories make your skin crawl. And it's strange because, honestly, every family has its own version of those chilling, almost stories, moments where they brush up against tragedy or witness something deeply unsettling. When you announced a video on Maryland, I knew I had to share this one. This isn't just a story I read somewhere, it's something my uncle Roger lived through. He told it to me personally, and it stuck with me ever since. I'm going to recount it from his
Starting point is 00:02:12 perspective, as best as I can remember it. March 29, 1982. My uncle never forgets dates, and neither will I. It's etched in his memory, in the same way some traumatic events are impossible to shake. Growing up in Columbia, Maryland. Roger grew up in Columbia, Maryland, a town that, at least at the time, had a reputation for being quiet, safe, and predictable. A place where middle-class families lived, kids rode their bikes to the village center, and parents commuted into Baltimore, about 30 minutes away, for work. It was the kind of place where people waved at neighbors on the street and the idea
Starting point is 00:02:56 of a violent crime happening nearby felt almost absurd. Roger was 17 then, just old enough to enjoy a little freedom, but still young enough to get nervous when something didn't feel right. On that day, he was riding his bike down one of the narrow, winding paths to the village center. He had nothing big planned, just a small errand to grab a soda from a shop he liked, maybe spend a few quarters at the local arcade afterward. His mom was working late at the hospital, so he had some time to himself. A perfect, mundane evening, or at least, that's how it started. About halfway down the path, he noticed a woman walking ahead. She looked to be in her late 20s, wearing a light jacket and jeans, hair tied back in a simple ponytail. She was singing
Starting point is 00:03:46 softly to herself, a clear, innocent tune that Roger immediately recognized, ain't no mountain high enough. The kind of song that filled the radio back then, one of those tracks that stuck in your head and made you hum along without thinking. He didn't think much of it at first, people walked to the village center all the time, but something about her presence stayed in his mind. Not wanting to startle her as he rode past, he slowed down. The soft squeak of his brakes caught her attention, and she glanced back. Their eyes met for a fleeting moment. Roger remembers feeling awkward, teenage awkward, the kind where you don't know what to say or how to react around adults. Uh, sorry, he mumbled, almost reflexively.
Starting point is 00:04:35 It's okay, kid. Let me get out of your way, she replied, smiling warmly despite a tiredness in her eyes that made her seem older than her years. He gave a nice. He gave a number of nervous nod, the kind you give when you have no idea how to respond but want to seem polite. She waved him on, and he peddled past, already distracted by the mundane thoughts of a teenager who had only intended to grab a soda. Little did he know, he was one of the last people to see that woman alive. Her name was Elaine Leemkadney. After he passed her, she got into a car, a brown Ford LTD, but no one could provide a reliable
Starting point is 00:05:14 description of the driver. Later, her body was found in a nearby vacant lot. She had been raped and murdered. At the time, the news rocked Columbia, Maryland. A quiet town suddenly confronted with a brutal crime, it shattered the sense of safety residents had taken for granted. Police investigations continued for decades, and the case remained unsolved for nearly 40 years. Families in the community were left with fear and uncertainty, wondering if the person responsible would ever be caught. Finally, in 2021, DNA evidence linked a man named Howard Jackson Bradbury Jr. to the crime. Some closure was provided, but questions lingered. Why her? Were there accomplices? Could this have been prevented? There's so much rugby on sports extra from Sky.

Maryland, 2022, another encounter.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Roger has shared a lot of stories over the years, and growing up in Maryland gave him plenty of material, both thrilling and terrifying. But one of the more recent encounters still makes him shiver when he recalls it. It happened last September, ironically, on Friday the 13th. He was with his boyfriend, Zach, and at first, the day seemed normal. They decided to see the new Beetlejuice movie at the local mall. Roger was wearing a black and white dress with flat black slippers, just comfortable attire for a casual outing. They took a lift to the mall, nothing unusual yet.
Starting point is 00:07:59 But as soon as they walked inside, Roger noticed a man. The man looked to be in his 50s or 60s, overweight, gray hair, thick glasses, wearing a blue shirt and shorts. He wasn't trying to hide the fact that he was staring at them. The intensity of his gaze made Roger's stomach tighten. They moved on to grab food at a Chinese restaurant inside the mall. As they settled in, Roger realized the man had followed them. At first, she tried to dismiss it as a random encounter, someone who was. was just staring out of curiosity. But as the minutes passed, unease grew into a gnawing fear.
Starting point is 00:08:42 After lunch, they wandered into the bookstore. And there he was again, silently following. Roger didn't want to alarm Zach yet, he wasn't sure if the man was a threat, but instinct told him to be cautious. She needed to use the restroom, and Zach waited outside. Even then, she felt the presence behind her, the subtle but unmistakable feeling that someone was watching, waiting. When she emerged, the man was gone, or at least, temporarily. Roger tried to focus on the movie, trying to shove the creeping fear into the back of her mind. But by the time the credits rolled, she looked up and saw him again, sitting a few rows behind, staring directly at her. Panic surged, and she ran out of the theater, straight to the lobby,
Starting point is 00:09:30 pulling out her phone to call her mom. Security. Nowhere in sight. The mall had cleared out, leaving her exposed. They eventually left the mall, taking the lift back to Rogers' house. On the way, a blue car seemed to be following them. She recognized the feeling, a predatory, invasive energy she had sensed before. The car finally turned off, but the fear lingered.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Even now, she sometimes spots a similar blue car parked outside her house. Perhaps paranoia, perhaps not. Lessons learned These events, from the mountains to the mall, from childhood encounters with danger to adult encounters, have a common thread, awareness and instinct. Roger has learned to trust the feelings that tell her when something is off, when a situation is unsafe. You can't always see the threat, but your body knows before your brain catches up. She shares this story as a warning, pay attention to your surroundings. Even with people you trust, even on dates, even in what seem like safe places, someone could be watching.
Starting point is 00:10:45 There is always a reason to be cautious, to listen to your gut, to take subtle cues seriously. It's not about fear, it's about vigilance.
