The Brenda Baratini case, love, betrayal, and a pair of rusty scissors.
It's his word against mine.
That's what Brenda Baratini said again and again when the microphones were shoved in her face.
He, the man who had once been her secret lover, was alive, trying to stitch his life back together.
She, the woman branded across headlines as, the architect of vengeance, was stuck in a cell,
painted either as a cold-blooded predator or as a desperate victim pushed too far.
But let's not rush. Let's rewind this story, because it didn't start with scissors, blood, and a stairwell.
No, this whole thing began years earlier, with ordinary people in ordinary lives, until desire, betrayal,
and one reckless night twisted everything into a tragedy that left Argentina buzzing with horror and fascination.
A man called Sergio.
Born sometime in the 1970s, Sergio Fernandez wasn't anyone special, at least not on paper.
By the time he turned 40, he was just another guy from Cordoba province trying to juggle life,
work, and his hobbies. He had a girlfriend named Marianella, a group of friends who liked
hanging out and a passion for music. Sergio was in a band, which gave him that rock and roll touch that
made him feel a little younger than his actual age.
There isn't a whole lot documented about his childhood or teenage years.
Nothing screams, future scandal, when you look back at his biography.
No tragedies that people could later point to as excuses.
No childhood abuse.
No psychological diagnoses.
Just a man living his life.
But then came the year 2016 and fate,
or maybe pure bad luck, threw him in the path of someone who would change his destiny forever.
Enter Brenda.
Her name was Brenda Michaela Baratini.
26 years old, originally from Chaboot in Argentina's vast Patagonia, she had moved north to Cordoba to pursue architecture.
By all accounts, Brenda was beautiful, ambitious, and determined to carve out a career for herself.
In her life, two people may be able to.
mattered most, her mother, Laura Herrera, who remained a strong presence in everything she did,
and her long-term boyfriend, Gonzalo Ezekiel Rodriguez.
Gonzalo wasn't just some casual fling, he had been around since Brenda's teenage years,
a steady anchor in her otherwise evolving life.
And yet, despite Gonzalo's presence, despite the image of stability and family expectations,
Brenda wanted more. Or maybe she just wanted different.
That's where Sergio came in.
The Secret Affair
When Brenda met Sergio, there was an undeniable spark.
He was older, charming in that weathered musician kind of way, and clearly flattered by her attention.
She was young, fresh, and curious.
Soon enough, the two of them started meeting in secret.
It wasn't some grand romance, at least not in the traditional sense.
They weren't talking about building a life together.
Their connection was physical, raw, and clandestine.
Every encounter was drenched in adrenaline, partly because of the forbidden nature of it all.
They managed to keep this secret fling alive for over a year.
In that time, Brenda graduated as an architect, officially earning her title and stepping into adulthood.
Sergio, meanwhile, kept playing music and pretending nothing in his stage.
life with Marianella had changed. But secrets don't stay secrets forever. And hidden
passion often breeds hidden resentment. The night everything changed. November 25th, 2017.
It was around 10.30 p.m. when Sergio showed up at Brenda's apartment. He wasn't suspicious.
This was just another night in their ongoing affair. They had to be a very much. They had
done this dance countless times before.
The plan was intimacy, passion, and the thrill of forbidden love.
But that night, Brenda had prepared something extra.
Once inside, things heated up quickly.
In the middle of their encounter, Brenda suggested they spice things up.
She asked Sergio if he'd be willing to wear a blindfold.
He agreed, why not?
Trust, after all, was still in play.
She pulled out an eye mask she had conveniently left nearby, slipped it over his eyes, and took control.
Brenda straddled his chest, caressing him, whispering to him, making it all seem like just another adventurous night.
And then, in one violent, calculated move, she grabbed a rusty pair of gardening scissors and slashed.
Sergio's world exploded into agony.
A sharp, searing pain ripped through his body.
His screams filled the apartment as he tore the blindfold away.
What he saw froze him in terror, Brenda, holding the scissors, blood everywhere, his body
mutilated in the cruelest way imaginable.
Blood, stares, and desperation.
Sergio, despite being in unbearable pain, fought to
survive. He staggered off the bed, bleeding profusely, and somehow managed to make it out
of Brenda's apartment. Half blind with shock, he dragged himself up a flight of stairs, leaving
a gruesome trail of blood behind him. When he reached the landing, he collapsed against a wall,
screaming for help. Neighbors rushed out. Within seconds, they were pressing on his wounds,
desperately trying to slow the bleeding. Someone called an ambulance. Someone else yelled for towels.
In the chaos, Sergio muttered through clenched teeth, she wanted to check my phone.
Meanwhile, Brenda wasn't hovering over him in panic. No, she had stepped aside, phone in hand,
calling her actual boyfriend, Gonzalo. She wanted him to come to her apartment immediately.
The aftermath of the attack
Emergency responders arrived just in time.
A medical student in the building had already managed to slow the bleeding enough for Sergio
to make it to the ambulance alive.
He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors worked frantically to save him.
It was touch and go.
He had lost a terrifying amount of blood.
His injuries were catastrophic.
His genitals were.
were almost entirely destroyed.
But miraculously, he survived.
When he finally regained consciousness, battered and broken,
the first thing he told his family was,
I'm just happy to still be alive.
But happiness aside, the road ahead was dark and complicated.
His body would never be the same.
And Brenda's future was about to be consumed by courtrooms,
psychiatrists, and headlines.
The investigation begins.
Police quickly arrived at Brenda's apartment, finding blood splattered across the room, a crime
seen straight out of a nightmare.
Brenda herself didn't resist arrest.
She was calm, almost detached.
Officers took her into custody and charged her with serious bodily harm, pending psychiatric
evaluation.
Authorities also collected evidence, Brenda's personal computer, a notebook that seemed like
a diary, and, of course, the scissors themselves.
Now came the hard part, figuring out why.
Conflicting stories
From the very beginning, the case became messy.
Sergio's lawyer claimed the attack was premeditated, a carefully planned act of vengeance
by Brenda.
But Brenda's defense lawyer countered with a very different version, Brenda had acted in self-defense.
She said Sergio had tried to sexually assault her that night, and she had no choice but to grab the scissors and protect herself.
So which was it? A brutal ambush or an act of desperation?
The truth seemed buried in contradictions.
Sergio, when able to testify, swore that Brenda had orchestrated everything.
She, on the other hand, painted herself as a victim of unwanted advances.
To be continued.
