of Dr. Chorinos, from respected psychiatrist to condemned predator.
The news hits the headlines. When the story of Roxana's murder broke, it didn't stay hidden for
long. At first, the authorities tried to keep things quiet. They didn't want leaks, didn't want
speculation. But the press in Venezuela is like wildfire, once a spark is out, the flames spread
fast. Within days, the case was plastered across the front pages of major newspapers.
For the public, it was almost impossible to process. The accused wasn't just some random doctor
or shady character. No, this was Edmundo Chorinos, a man who had spent decades building a
reputation as an intellectual, a healer, even a public figure consulted on politics and society.
People remembered seeing him on TV, listening to him talk about national issues with authority.
How could that man be accused of such brutality?
The contradiction was too much to swallow.
Many refused to believe it.
Others whispered, I always thought there was something off about him.
And then came the interviews.
Cherinos arrogant performance
Instead of lying low, Chorinos did what he had always done best, he performed.
Journalists came knocking, and instead of hiding, he opened the door.
Cameras, microphones, he welcomed them. Every interview fed his ego.
He smirked, shrugged, and dismissed the accusations with sarcasm.
His tone wasn't that of a man under suspicion, it was the tone of someone who believed himself untouchable.
He practically radiated arrogance.
He told reporters,
This is nothing but a grand conspiracy against me.
I am absolutely innocent, and in time, the truth will prove it.
I don't know why they want to ruin me, but the world will see that I've done nothing wrong.
His word sounded rehearsed, almost theatrical.
He looked down on everyone, as if society owed him belief simply because of who he was.
was. To him, being questioned was absurd. He had lived so many years being treated like a genius,
a semi-god, as some called him, that the very idea of being suspected felt insulting.
But behind that mask of superiority, the walls were closing in. The interrogation
When the authorities summoned him for questioning, Chorinos didn't refuse. On the contrary,
he walked in with his head high, smiling as if the whole situation was beneath him.
He played the role of a man of principles, upright, righteous, the picture of innocence.
But the detectives weren't buying it. They already had too many red flags, Roxana's blog,
her diary, the evidence found in his office and car, and the testimony of her family.
Still, Chorinos remained confident. In his mind, his mind, his
power, his prestige, and his intellect would shield him. He truly didn't believe anyone could
tear down the empire of respectability he had built over 70 years.
The Internet Bombshell
While investigators gathered evidence, a new revelation came to light.
Just days before her death, Roxanna had written a text that she deliberately shared online.
It wasn't just a rant or diary entry, it was a warning.
In her message, she begged mothers not to take their daughters to be treated by Chorinos.
She accused him openly of using sleep cures to sedate patients, only to abuse them while unconscious, exactly what had happened to her.
She included specific details of his methods, the manipulation, the fake tenderness that masked his cruelty.
And to make it impossible for him to ignore, she slipped a printed copy of that text in an envelope and shoved it under the private entrance door.
of his office. She wanted him to see it. She wanted him to know she was exposing him.
This act of defiance revealed something powerful, Roxanna wasn't silent. She was fighting back,
even as she carried the scars of what he had done. More victims step forward. As the case
exploded, more and more disturbing details surfaced. Journalists claimed to have read through the
thick case file, about 100 pages long, and one even said he had seen a handwritten letter from
Anna Teresa, Roxana's mother, stating that Cherinos had abused her too when she was his patient
years earlier. The trial preparations uncovered something even darker. Fourteen women came
forward to testify that they too had been sexually abused by Cherinos during psychiatric
sessions. This Christmas on Sky, you can turn a silent night into stoppage time to light.

The pattern was clear. He sedated them under the guise of treatment, then violated them while they were
unconscious or disoriented. For decades, this predator had hidden behind the mask of
professionalism and the trust society gave to doctors. Roxanna's case was the crack that made
the entire facade collapse. The Day of the Murder
According to the prosecution, July 12, 2008 unfolded like this, Roxanna went to his office
and at some point, an argument broke out. She was no longer the submissive
patient, she had begun pushing back, threatening to expose him, maybe even mocking his fear
of losing control.
That clash turned violent.
The investigators believed Chorino struck her repeatedly, causing the cranial trauma that
killed her.
Afterward, he moved her body into his car and drove it to a deserted area where it was later
discovered.
But there was still a lingering mystery, could a frail, elderly man really carry and dump the body
by himself. Some suspected he had help, one or more accomplices who were never identified.
The prosecution could never prove it, so the question remains unanswered.
His weak excuses. When confronted with the damning forensic evidence, Chorinos tried to explain
everything away with bizarre justifications. The blood in his office? He claimed it was from
shock therapy, saying patients often bled from the nose during his treatments, including
Roxanna.
The suspiciously clean car.
He said he had spilled mangoes inside and had to wash it thoroughly to remove the mess.
The excuses were laughable.
No one believed them, not the prosecutors, not the judges, not even the public anymore.
The sentence
Finally, after two years of hearings, testimonies, and evidence, the court reached its decision.
In September 2010, Dr. Edmundo Chorinos was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the homicide of Roxana Vargas.
The verdict shook Venezuela.
The once-celebrated psychiatrist, who had once treated presidents and appeared on national television, was now just another criminal, stripped of dignity and power.
Declined behind bars.
Chorinos didn't last long in prison.
His health quickly deteriorated.
Not long after his incarceration, he suffered a stroke that left him with a subdural edema.
Report said he lost much of his ability to speak and had to use a wheelchair.
But there were always doubts.
In March 2012, citing his advanced age and health issues, the court granted him house arrest.
And here's the twist, when he left prison, he didn't leave in a wheelchair, he walked out on his own two feet.
Many believed his illness have been exaggerated or staged.
By August 2013, he was transferred to a clinic for a severe pneumonia.
On August 24, 2013, Chorinos was found dead in his Caracas residence.
The tragedy doesn't end.
For Roxana's family, the nightmare didn't end with his conviction or even his death.
Her father, crushed by grief and stress, suffered a sudden fatal heart attack not long after the sentencing.
Anna Teresa, her mother, carried the heaviest burden.
Over the years, she began showing signs of dementia.
Her pain warped into aggression, she even attempted to attack Mariana, Roxana's sister, on two
occasions. Eventually, she had to be institutionalized in a psychiatric facility.
On December 31st, 2016, Anna Teresa II died of a heart attack, her body and mind both broken
by years of suffering. One crime had destroyed not only Roxana but her entire family.
The Legacy
The case of Roxanna Vargas and Edmundo Churinos left a deep scar on Venezuelan society.
It shattered trust in the medical profession, especially in psychiatrists.
Many women swore they would never again let themselves or their daughters be treated by a male doctor.
The scandal forced people to confront uncomfortable truths, that prestige and titles mean nothing if abuse hides behind them,
that predators often wear masks of respectability, and that power can silence victims for years, until someone like Roxanna dares to speak.
her story became a symbol a reminder that evil can hide in plain sight smiling on tv shaking hands with presidents while committing horrors in the shadows the end
