The Carmel Valley Nightmare, Part 2
At first, Janice and Jerry honestly thought none of this was a big deal.
I mean, come on, some random stranger posted their house online as if it were for sale.
Weird, yes, annoying, of course, but dangerous?
They didn't think so.
In their heads, it was probably some dumb prank, like kids fooling around, or maybe some
scammer from across the world who had no real connection to them.
They brushed it off.
laughed about it sometimes. Well, Jerry would say, at least someone thinks our house is worth
advertising. But that false sense of humor wasn't going to last long, because what started as something
that seemed like a harmless online joke quickly turned into a nightmare that not even the most
paranoid person could have imagined. Janice and Jerry were the kind of people who loved shopping
online. Amazon boxes, eBay deals, little packages arriving at the door every other day, it
was normal for them. The mailman practically knew them by name, and UPS truck stopping by their place was
just a part of life. But then, one random morning, Jerry opened the front door and found a stack of
packages that neither he nor Janice had ordered. He figured it was a mistake, wrong address,
or maybe one of their neighbor stuff, except the labels had their names. That was the first red
flag. The packages kept coming. At first it was small things, random magazines, newspapers they
didn't subscribe to, then bills, real bills, with their names, but for things they hadn't purchased.
One day, Jerry ripped open an envelope only to see an invoice for over $1,000 worth of adult diapers,
not baby diapers, adult ones. He stared at the paper for a good minute, trying to process.
What the hell is this? he muttered.
Janice came over, peaked at the invoice, and her jaw dropped.
Jerry, this isn't ours. We didn't order this.
It was just the beginning. The delivery snowballed into the absurd.
Huge vans began showing up at their driveway,
unloading boxes upon boxes of toilet paper, t-shirts and random sizes,
more adult diapers, and bizarre subscription items.
Some packages contained magazines with explicit covers.
Others included products they didn't even recognize.
The couple would reject the deliveries.
Sometimes Jerry would run outside, waving his arms, telling the drivers,
No, no, we didn't order that. Take it back.
But the sheer frequency of it all was disturbing.
Who was ordering this stuff in their name? Why?
By October 2011, things escalated into something darker.
Men started showing up at the house. At first it was subtle. A random car would slow down outside. A guy would stand by the fence, glancing toward the windows, then they would leave. But soon, the visits became bolder. One man walked straight up to the front door, rang the bell, and then bolted when Jerry opened it. Another time, Jerry caught a stranger creeping around the side of the house, clearly trying to peek through the windows. Jerry confronted him, but he said,
but the man ran off before he could ask anything.
Then came the night that really shook Jerry.
He was home alone when he heard a noise near one of the side windows.
He rushed over and to his shock saw a man trying to force the window open.
Heart racing, Jerry shouted,
Hey, what the hell are you doing?
The man froze, eyes wide, then scrambled away into the dark.
Jerry was rattled.
He told Janice about it later and they both tried.
tried to make sense of what was happening. Why were random men suddenly interested in their house?
The answer came in the most horrifying way possible. One afternoon, while Janice was out, a man rang the bell.
Jerry answered, expecting maybe a neighbor or delivery. Instead, he found a middle-aged guy standing
there, looking nervous. The man's eyes darted around before finally locking on to Jerry.
Uh, I was looking for Janice, the guy stammered.
Jerry narrowed his eyes.
My wife isn't home.
Who are you?
The man shifted uncomfortably.
I guess I should go.
I thought she, uh, posted an ad.
Jerry was confused.
An ad?
What ad?
And that's when the stranger dropped a bombshell.
According to him, there was a Craigslist ad,
one that claimed Janus was
looking for men to show up at her house for, well, let's just say unusual encounters.
Jerry's stomach dropped.
He didn't want to believe it.

But curiosity and fear drove him straight to the computer.
He pulled up Craigslist, searched, and there it was.
An ad titled Carmel Valley Freak Show.
His blood ran cold.
The ad used Janice's real name.
It even had her photos, personal selfies she had once uploaded to Facebook.
And the description?
It painted Janice as some kind of fetish nurse who wanted strangers to surprise her at home,
to enter without warning, to take her while she pretended to resist.
Jerry's hands shook as he read the disgusting text.
It was sick.
It was dangerous.
And it was personal.
Someone out there wasn't just pranking them anymore.
someone was trying to put Janice in real danger.
This time, they didn't just hit report online.
They gathered everything, screenshots, the link, copies of the ad,
and marched straight to the police station.
They filed a formal complaint, desperate for answers.
But here's the thing.
The internet moves fast.
By the time the police tried to investigate,
the ad had already been taken down.
No link, no live post.
no evidence. To the police, without something active to track, it was basically a dead end.
Janice and Jerry were horrified. Whoever was behind this was careful. They were smart. And worst of all,
they weren't stopping. In the following weeks, Janice's friends, co-workers, and even distant relatives
began receiving emails from a mysterious account. The messages accused Janus of all kinds of vile things,
cheating on Jerry, sleeping with countless men, spreading diseases.
The emails were venomous, designed to destroy her reputation.
The worst part, some people believe them.
Whispers started spreading in their community.
Janice felt eyes on her whenever she went to work, to the store, to pick up her son.
Even neighbors who had once been friendly now seemed distant.
As if that wasn't enough, another layer of torment appeared.
A fake Facebook profile surfaced, this time using Jerry's name and photo.
The impersonator sent friend requests to women, including some of Janice's co-workers and even
total strangers. Then Jerry would send them inappropriate messages, harassing them,
creeping them out. Once again, the couple went to the police, but the same cycle repeated.
By the time authorities looked into it, the fake profile had already vanished. The stalker always
stayed one step ahead. Then came New Year's Eve. Picture this. Janice and Jerry were at home,
maybe hoping to start fresh after the hellish months they had endured. But instead of peace,
their quiet night turned into chaos. Out of nowhere, dozens, literally hundreds of college kids
flooded their street. Cars lined up outside their house, music blasted, people drank, danced,
and some even jumped into their backyard pool.
The couple rushed outside, yelling,
What's going on? Why are you here?
The answer chilled them.
Someone had posted online that there was a huge New Year's Eve party at their house.
An open invite, drinks, music, everything.
It was another fake ad, another violation, another invasion.
And it wasn't over yet.
A few weeks later, Janice opened the,
the mailbox and found a letter with no return address. The message inside was blunt and terrifying.
We're going to burn your house down with you inside it. That was the final straw. They ran back to the
police with the letter, desperate for protection. This time, they also invested in security.
They installed high fences, the most advanced alarm system they could buy, and cameras all around the
property, front, back, sides. They thought maybe, just maybe, the sight of cameras would scare the
stalker away. For a while, it seemed to work. Two months of silence, no strange packages, no men
showing up, no ads, no emails. They let themselves breathe again. Maybe, they thought, the nightmare was
finally over. But then Valentine's Day, 2012, came around. And that day, the doorbell rang again.
Several men stood outside, flowers and gifts in hand. Others came later. Confused husbands showed up, too,
furious, demanding answers. Apparently, Jerry had sent Valentine's cards to nearly every
woman in the neighborhood. Married, single, young, old. Hi, I'm Darren Marlour.

Some cards were explicit.
Some invited them straight to his house.
Of course, Jerry hadn't written a single one.
The harassment was back.
Only this time, the stalker had shifted tactics.
They didn't want to be caught on camera anymore.
Now everything was done from behind a screen.
Fake emails, fake accounts, false letters.
And then, in April, a new twist arrived in the mail.
A certified letter.
A real, legal.
looking document. When Janice opened it, her blood turned to ice. It was a court summons.
To be continued.
