Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, so let me take you back a bit. The name's Marcus. Just your average 18-year-old guy. Most people would describe me as laid back, someone who doesn't really lose his cool over stupid stuff. I don't snap, don't throw fits, and I've always been the keep it chill, type. That's just who I've been for as long as I can remember. And then there's Jackson. My guy.
Starting point is 00:00:26 My brother from another mother. We've been tight since preschool, like sandbox homies kind of tight. You know those friendships where it feels like you've been through everything together. That's us. From climbing trees and getting scrapes on our knees as kids to gaming marathons and late night talks about life as teens. Jackson wasn't just my best friend, he was family. Things were good, life felt steady. That is, until Sheena happened.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Sheena was this Japanese girl I met at a mutual friends party. She was 17 at the time, just a year younger than me. Beautiful, smart, and had this sweet vibe about her that drew people in. We started talking, then hanging out more, and before long, we were dating. It felt nice. I mean, I thought we were good together. But there was this guy always hovering around her. Takashi.
Starting point is 00:01:25 He was a guy. was her so-called boy best friend. He was 18 like me, tall, quiet, always had this polite smile. At first, I didn't think much of it. She told me they've been close for years, and I trusted her. I mean, I'm not the jealous type. When they whispered to each other when I wasn't around, I figured they were talking about something funny. Or maybe they were planning a surprise for me. I mean, why not think the best of them? I was such a fool. Turns out Jackson had noticed some things I hadn't. One day he comes up to me, looking all serious. He says, bro, we need to talk about Sheena. At first, I brushed him off.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Thought maybe he was overthinking it. But he didn't stop there. Jackson, being the loyal friend he was, actually went out of his way to get proof. And what he showed me. I swear my stomach drop. Stopped. Pictures. Screenshots. Recordings. Sheena and Takashi weren't just whispering. They were hooking up behind my back.
Starting point is 00:02:38 All those little signs I ignored suddenly made sense. The late replies, the sudden, busy days, the weird energy when I showed up unannounced. I confronted Sheena that night. Are you cheating on me? I asked, staring her dead in the eyes. She didn't even flinch. What? No.
Starting point is 00:03:00 How could you even say that? She denied it. Over and over again. And then, when she realized I wasn't buying her act, she turned the tables on me. She started crying and screaming about how Jackson was, obsessed with her and trying to ruin her relationship. And it didn't stop there. Sheena and Takashi started spreading rumors about Jackson. They told people he was a creep that he had been stalking Sheena, trying to, break us up because
Starting point is 00:03:30 he wanted her for himself. And people believed them. The school turned on Jackson. Online and in person. They called him names. Lapped at him. Bullied him to the point where he stopped showing up to school. I tried to be there for him, but the damage was already done.
Starting point is 00:03:50 And then one day, Jackson just, disappeared. They found his body a few towns over. He'd taken his own life. I was shattered. All those years of friendship, all those memories, gone. And for what? Because of two selfish liars who couldn't keep their hands off each other and couldn't take responsibility for their mess.
Starting point is 00:04:13 That's when something inside me snapped. I'm going to make them pay, I told myself. I'm going to take revenge on these Japanese immigrant bastards. I wasn't going to let them get away with this. Not after what they did to Jackson. So here's what I did. I went out to the garage and grabbed a ladder. Tied it to my bike with some rope.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Yeah, it probably looked ridiculous, but I didn't care. After school, I followed them. Stalked them from a distance like some kind of predator waiting for the right moment. Takashi's house was first. His window was wide open, like he was born. begging for trouble. I set up the ladder, climbed in, and started snooping. Found his diary on the nightstand. The idiot didn't even bother to hide it. What I read in there made my blood boil. Page after page of confessions. Not only about him hooking up with
Starting point is 00:05:11 Sheena, but about how they made up all those lies about Jackson. He admitted it. He wrote about how guilty he felt but was too much of a coward to come clean. I snapped pictures of every single page, every secret, every detail. The next night, I did the same at Sheena's place. Her diary was even worse. She mocked Jackson, laughed about how people believed her lies. She even wrote about how stupid Marcus probably still thinks I loved him. I took pictures of her diary too. And then I waited. There's this alleyway near town where Sheena used to take me when she wanted to, talk. It was also where she'd meet Takashi in secret. So I hid there one night, phone in hand, and waited.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Sure enough, they showed up. I hit record. And then, Jackpot. They admitted everything. Out loud. They laughed about Jackson. Mocked me. Bragged about how they'd ruined his life and guns.
Starting point is 00:06:18 gotten away with it. That recording was all I needed. When I got home, I posted everything online. The diary picks. The recordings. The confessions. All of it. I made sure the whole school saw it. And boy, did they see it. The same people who bullied Jackson turned on Sheena and Takashi. Overnight, they became outcasts. People spit on their names. They were. They were They couldn't even show their faces outside without getting harassed. But karma wasn't done with them yet. A few days later, I saw the news. Sheena and Takashi had been driving together when two cars pulled up beside them.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Out of nowhere, they were shot to death. Murdered in cold blood. They died on the spot. Sheena, 17. Takashi, 18. Gone. When I saw the article on. online, I didn't even flinch. I didn't feel bad. I didn't cry. I just typed one comment.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Rest in hell, children of Satan. For me, Jackson's death was finally justified. So here's my question. Am I the asshole? Or was I right to do what I did? The end.
