Makes Amber out to be this little high school villain straight out of a bad teen movie. But nobody's buying it. The community rolls their eyes. They know who Amber is. They know Wanda is just mad. Meanwhile, Amber's thriving. Gets more friends. Get more friends. Get a boyfriend, becomes even more popular. She's living Wanda's dream, the life Wanda wanted for Shauna. And that fact. That eats Wanda alive. The next cheerleading tryouts were coming up in March 1991. Shauna would be 14. Wanda saw this as the last shot. One more chance. But Amber was still in the way. And so was her mother, Verna.

She laid it all out, Shauna worked so hard, Amber kept stealing her thunder, and the real problem wasn't even Amber, it was Verna. The mom. She wanted Verna gone.

Disappeared. She begged Terry to take care of it. Terry was stunned. He told her flat out no. He wasn't a killer. But Wanda didn't let up. Said she'd pay. Said it had to be done.

People blame her, say she pushed her mom into doing it. That she was talentless. A fraud. Not good enough.

Her friends ghost her. Even her tight little group cuts her off. Meanwhile, Amber becomes a local hero. She gets support, sympathy, popularity. She shines even brighter. And Shauna is left totally alone. The whole town starts playing the blame game. Some say the school principal's responsible.

That if he hadn't cancelled the majorette program, maybe Shauna could have joined that instead. Maybe Wanda wouldn't have snapped. Others say Shana would have made the team that year. She had worked hard, improved massively. But she never got the chance, because her mom made sure of that. And now, the same thing Wanda wanted for Amber, losing her mom, was exactly what she created for her own daughter. Wanda became her daughter's downfall.

The trial began in June 1991. Thanks to Terry's recordings, the case was Rock Scy. solid. The jury heard every word. Wanda was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years. But then, twist. The first trial was thrown out. Legal issues. So they did it all over again in 1996. This time, Wanda was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined $10,000. Even then, she caught a break. After serving just six months, she was granted parole on March 1,000. She never went back. But her reputation ruined forever. No one forgot. She was and always would be the Pompom Mom. Verna, the target of the plot, never recovered. She told reporters she was

traumatized, said she lived in fear. That knowing Wanda was out there, free, scared her to death. She said, I felt numb. Hurt. I sank into the couch. You have to really hate someone to do that. Shana got the worst of it. Isolated. Shunned. Labelled.

Everywhere she went, people knew who she was. The girl with that mom. In college, it was the same story. Everyone recognized her face from the trial. No one wanted to be her friend.
