Hello. Today we talk about how Trump vindictively canceled grants only in blue states,
his really great jokes at the White House correspondence dinner, and how he's trying to juice those low poll numbers.
Oh, and also like and subscribe.
Hi, hello, and welcome back to Even More News, the first and only news podcast.
I'm Katie Stoll, and I'm back.
Yeah, welcome back to even more you who is back from last time when you weren't here.
I'm Cody who was here last time as well.
And I'm here now too.
I'm also still here.
Jonathan is also here.
Hi.
Welcome back, Katie.
All back together just the way it was supposed to be.
How badly did you miss me?
Don't answer that.
So much.
Badly.
So much.
Yeah, it was odd.
Oh, boy, but we are back.
And I did my best to not pay attention to any news since last we met.
So here we are.
What happened?
Well, we got a lot of news on Friday that kind of percolated over the weekend.
We found out that this was from a court filing a couple weeks ago,
but it took a little while for anyone to notice that the Trump administration admitted in a court filing that,
it was canceling a bunch of grants specifically because they were going to blue states,
states that voted for Kamala Harris in 2024. It's kind of startling to read because it's this ongoing
lawsuit and the lawyer for the energy department wrote, quote, with one exception, the 284
terminated grants had a recipient location and or at least one place of performance in a state
that awarded its electoral votes to Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and has two Democratic
caucusing senators.
And then there's a follow-up quote where they said there's there was no like a specific
budget related or topic related reasoning for this.
And you'd ask like, why would they admit this in a court document?
Yeah.
And the reason is because this is part of an ongoing lawsuit where people were suing over
these canceled grants.
And if they don't meet a deal, there's going to be discovery where we'll find out probably
worse stuff.
You'll find out that the conversation was literally
Cancel all of them.
Anybody blue.
Anybody state.
I don't fucking care.
Just go down the list.
I got to take care of my people.
I don't care about it.
This is one of those, okay, this is outrageous.
And in the landscape that we live in,
it's so easy for it to just wash over you.
Because you think in the back of your head,
there's a knowing, like we know that this is happening.
Obviously, these things have been cancans.
and it seems pretty clear.
But oh, wow, very easily pinpointable.
Yep, that's 100% what they did.
They just went down the list of blue states.
Outrageous.
And especially when you realize the things that they cut are pivotal, so fucking important.
That these resources go to things like, okay, this is according to New York Times.
Upgrades to electrical grids in states like California and Oregon.
pinpoint all of this because we'll talk about wildfire season later in the episode, but
efforts to reduce methane leaks from oil and gas operations in Colorado and large hubs
to produce clean burning hydrogen fuels in California and the Pacific Northwest.
For example, some of the things cut vitally, vitally, vitally important.
I was just an organ last week in the whole state's on fire.
It sounds like woke bullshit to me, so.
Well, it is woke bullshit.
it. Okay. Well, so good riddance. Yeah, it's, it sucks. It's really evil. I can't believe they are just
writing it out loud and writing it out loud, writing it down for people to read. They're writing it out
loud. They're writing it out loud. All caps. All caps. The yell font. Because also you get all
these people all the time like, oh my God, Biden doesn't care about red state people or he did this
or he didn't help North Carolina. Like, it's just so obvious like how petty and evil he is towards half,
at least half the country
when other
you know maybe other presidents
wouldn't be like that
and maybe if there was even an inkling of it
the right would freak out
and demand that they'd be impeached
or hanged or something like that
and it's just really really
gross to see them be like yeah
you know that's just how it is now
we owned you
but not by giving you money
which you're not going to get
if this was a bigger story
and like people
members of Congress Republican members
were being pressed on this over and over, they'd have to come up with a, well, what about when
Biden did? And then they'd make up something that's not this. Because also, all of those, like,
woke, wasteful grants, the red states still got them, right? They didn't, like, they don't care
about the content of them. Because they're still. So it's not wasteful in those states, though.
Yeah. And, like, not that it matters, but the energy secretary lied to Congress when he said,
quote, no decisions were made on politics, which his administration
has now admitted as a lie.
All decisions are made on politics.
All their decisions are based off that.
Every single thing they do.
Or money.
Like, if it incidentally hurts Democrats
while they're making money off of it,
they're okay for that.
That's a win, win, win, win.
But we're so far from what the norm,
the norm should be.
At least the pretense of a president being for everybody
that a president is for whether you voted for me or not
the celebration of democracy like I want to do the best
to include everybody in the fold I want unity in our country
those days are so long gone
there's no there's just not even a pretense of it
but this is not normal
he does try to say it sometimes
yeah yeah it's really abnormal he does try to say it sometimes I guess
but not really I mean it's it'll be a true social post
followed up by I'm glad who
ever died
to his dead.
Like,
it's not,
he's not,
you know.
He'll,
he'll put in a sentence
sort of in the tweet
and then spend the rest
of the tweet,
negating what he just said.
The norms are so,
um,
destroyed now that you would think
the next Democratic president
is not going to do the stuff
that Trump is doing,
but is going to say,
why can't we just do this,
guys?
Like, the,
the system is broken down.
We can't really build it back up.
If it's going to,
be a thing where
you know Fox News and everyone's in an outrage
over every little
liberal thing that the next Democratic president
tries to do
I don't know if because obviously it won't connect
with me it'll seem absurd is half the country
just going to go for it like I've never seen a president
be this brazen when president whoever it is
does it I don't all they will all pretend like the world has
flipped around and
like they were sweet little angels the whole time and their last president loved everybody and helped everybody and was nice constantly and the Dems are mean and in response to the Dems being so mean we have to get like a real fucking asshole in there next time is how they will react to it. They will want a larger, stupider asshole.
I do think that we are seeing lots of signs of Trump losing his juice or mojo.
or whatever you want to call.
His mind, his life, slowly his life.
But I think there's like signs that his big stolen election speech was a huge dud.
No one really cared.
They're like, okay.
Forgot about it already.
Okay, grandpa, go and yell about the stuff.
Whatever you're going to try to do.
Okay.
We'll talk about some of this White House correspondence dinner stuff where he didn't read the jokes
beforehand and thus couldn't deliver them with any of the kind of cadence or tempo that one would want.
And he's just now like posting memes nonstop.
He's posting all kinds of AI images, lots of Trump 2028 stuff to try and get a rise out of people.
And there's like not even articles about it anymore.
It's like, okay, man, you yell at the cloud.
We don't care anymore.
And I think that's like, like it's obviously nuts that he's doing it.
But I think it's a good sign that it's just like he does not have what it takes to shock us anymore.
I mean, he can't.
He'll...
He will.
Listen, he will.
He's going to do something next summer.
I don't know what, but he's going to do something next summer to try and be like, I'm running.
He's going to humiliate Katie.
He's going to be like, no, you're not.
And he'll be like, oh, it was a joke, you know?
Does Truth Social have an app?
Does he post from his phone?
Is he there for like an hour just sort of...
Because where does you get the eye slop?
How does you know how to copy paste links in his phone?
I think he sees stuff...
and then he sends it to somebody.
And he's like, go post this, go post this.
Or maybe Steven Chung is just standing right next to him
and he's like this, this, this.
Yeah, right.
I think you can teach an old dog new tricks
and it's his favorite new trick
is to copy paste link, copy paste link.
Totally. I just like in my mind I'm like,
the idea of him like at a computer
is so funny to me.
Like I've never and we will never see him
sitting down in front of a computer using it.
It's got to be the phone.
It is an interesting question.
Who's doing the actual posting?
I mean, it's, Stephen or whoever, it's like, you know.
But that's a lot of posting.
He's definitely not like physically doing it.
But like I'm just, I just wanted to imagine him on a computer.
Yeah, it's very funny.
Like an old IMac.
Just like looking at it.
Yeah, like he's got his hand on the mouse.
Like what are you going?
Or like he's using the track pad.
I don't know.
I just want to see it.
20 something times.
I don't know.
He was really on one the other day.
Yeah.
Sunday he posted just all day.
like all kinds of AI slop
all kinds of Trump 2028 stuff
nothing really getting any play I'm sure
he's just posting stuff and then going on Fox News
being like why aren't they talking about all the cool
he doesn't know dank but cool memes
he's like what did that idiot say
what cool dank memes who was that guy
he's that fucking moron everybody hates
there's so many
this Harry assistant
bookmark gave a tweet
with all the different times
stamps next to it 1116 a.m.
AI photo of Caitlin Collins as Dolan Mulvaney, 1143am, A.A. Image attacking Bruce Springsteen, 3.22 p.m.
and AI art installation of Trump throwing a Trump 2028 hat. There's so much. There's hundreds.
If I can talk about this Caitlin Collins joke at the White House Correspondence dinner for a moment,
it's like a minute and he's going to insult, like you'll tell he's going to go off script by insulting Caitlin Collins and calling her fake for a bit.
and then he gets to the joke which he delivers poorly.
But they'll learn to listen.
But I want to personally congratulate CNN's Caitlin Callens
on receiving her award.
It was all about me.
It's a fake.
She shouldn't get the award.
It was a fake.
But I didn't mind.
I said, Caitlin, congratulations.
But it was fake.
There's no question about it.
But she's a young, attractive woman.
She never smiles.
I said, Caitlin, do you ever smile?
Smile.
You have a nice position.
You're at CNN fake news.
You should be a happy person.
So smile, Caitlin.
Just smile.
But we attack, and I thought Caitlin had really made it big
with a major new sponsorship.
But then I informed her that it wasn't her on the Budlite can.
It was Dylan Mulvaney.
And Dylan Mulvaney cost Budlite $35 million.
In market cap.
Crickets.
That's as silent as his other jokes that he tried to tell.
They're all so bad.
So what's really interesting about this to me, well, first of all, is that he's going off
script and doing this, she should smile thing.
And then it's not clear that he's going into a joke.
An actual bit.
And the joke is like, I had to inform her of that, whatever.
The joke, it's a transphobic joke suggesting that Caitlin Collins resembling.
trans woman Dylan Mulvaney and it's an insult to both of them because they don't like
the way to compliment to both of them because they're both gorgeous.
They don't like the way that these two people specifically look.
But since that happened and people are like, oh, Trump told this transphobic joke, they have been
trying. Maga has been attempting to say no, the joke isn't transphobic and I want to go through two.
Please do. The reaction to this is, yeah.
So Katie Miller writes, the joke wasn't transphobic.
President Trump didn't call Dylan Mulvaney a man.
So I guess Katie Miller's argument is that misgendering is the only way something can be transphobic, which isn't true at all.
And then this other person, this is what I really want to get to because this is what they've been going off of.
The joke is they look alike and to most objective viewers they actually do.
So, no, they don't.
They don't really look alike at all.
They've got dark hair.
They're brunette women.
And also, that's not a joke.
It's not a joke to just say that two people look alike.
You're pretending that the joke isn't the joke.
And why are you doing that?
Why won't they own their transphobia?
This was three years ago.
Dylan Mulvaney, getting a case of beer sent to her
from fucking Bud Light was three years.
Get over it.
This is so tired.
This is so hag.
No one fucking cares, man.
Clearly they do.
They're clamoring for it.
Judging by the reaction.
The overwhelming reaction.
And we're just brushing past this, but like,
telling a woman to smile.
It's so embarrassing.
Oh, yeah.
It's so I had a big conversation about that
this couple weeks ago.
And like, not this instance.
Just.
remarkable remarkably offensive um and sometimes it lands fine and you're like whatever other times
you're like just fuck off let me live but don't what are men telling you to smile on the regular i've had
i have multiple times been walking down the street having a perfectly nice time listening to my
headphones and had a man be like you're so pretty honey be prettier if you smiled you should smile
Why aren't you happy?
Like, and sometimes you're like, okay, huh, thanks.
Okay.
Other times it's like, fuck you, dude.
I was actually in a great moment, but now you've got me in my head wondering how I look like.
Like, you have to outwardly, like, display, like, your emotions constantly.
And the truth is, I go out of my way to smile a lot of times when I don't feel like it, just to be pleasant to people.
And I just, give me a break.
I don't see men walking down the street like this.
like that's a weird thing to do to have a giant smile on your face when you're by yourself
right people having a stroll unless you're like in a musical or something i understand sometimes
people if it's like an old man there's something in them that's like this is nice i guess but it's
not nice it's fine to smile outside it's fine to not smile outside it's probably fine to like
compliment somebody smile if they're smiling but to like demand like performative emotions
i think if they're strangers just leave people well yeah
If they're strangers, just like, don't fucking say it.
God damn word.
I just going to say, regardless, don't fucking do that.
That's so...
Just leave women alone.
Leave women alone.
Leave women alone.
My blood would have boiled over if I was Caitlin Collins sitting in that chair, having
that disgusting, melting man telling me to smile more.
Well, so I wanted to get to this joke thing, because the reaction to it, like, obviously,
Katie Miller's stupid or pretending to be stupid or whatever.
But everybody is also.
doing that. They're all, I saw, like, this is just one example, but they're all talking like
this and claiming, like, it's actually, this is the perfect 4D chest joke, right? It's the perfect
4D chest joke to humiliate, Caitlin Collins, obviously, because we're going to humiliate her
and, like, target her and make her feel bad, but it humiliates the entire left because
they can't articulate why it's offensive without admitting their beliefs are fake. What's she's
supposed to say? How dare you compare me to a man pretending to be a woman? No, that's what you think.
That's your opinion. They're pretending like context doesn't exist. Are we to believe that Donald Trump and the entire MAGA Wright thinks that Dylan Mulvaney is a pretty woman and that Caitlin Collins is a pretty woman and that they are being complimented by them? Or do we understand the context and understand their viewpoint and understand that is an intentional insult in their minds? We can look at it and Katie, you were earlier like, but they're both beautiful. Yeah, we can. We can.
think that. You guys think
not that. And you're like
being like purposefully obtuse
about how like he was just like
explain why you're so mad because
you are obviously knowingly
insulting them based off of
your worldview that you let
everybody know about constantly
every day of the fucking week.
I'm going to add one more thing to be insulted
by? Do it. You
didn't even put any heat
behind that, sir.
It doesn't look like you
care at all.
You didn't even
bother to insult me with passion.
Yeah, he's like, and I informed
her that the can
wasn't her on the can.
What, like, you're
a terrible joke, you may
have been good at it before.
He even tells, like, a classic joke at one
point. It's like, that's just a joke you pick up
in like 900 jokes or whatever.
Any fucking... I can't do
both joke? The, the
inappropriate joke that he shouldn't have
old and then yeah the about like yeah because he can't like they can't have sex right and then he like goes
off for about two minutes about like so he's because like he's got the energy to do that but like actually
he's not he's not having sex you know because when you have sex it's like you got to put in some
work but he couldn't like he's he goes the other day a senator i knew got a text of great guy
from his wife and she said when you get home i want to have you immediately come up the stairs
and make love to me
And he said, I can't do both.
You know what the...
In other words, can't go up the stairs and make love.
Does anybody get that way?
I thought that was actually pretty good.
That was actually the only thing I thought was good
in this whole freaking stupid speech that they wrote.
That was the only good one,
and that went down with not exactly great laughter.
I think, you know, in other words,
you can't go up the stairs and make love, too, you know.
So we're looking for term limits.
Does anybody understand this?
it dies and then he's like maybe they didn't get it and so he goes so in other words he can't both
he explains it multiple times he can't both go up the steps and make love to the wife he can't do both
in the thing they have to make love down here it doesn't make any sense it's so funny unbelievable
and then the the Barry Weiss joke is like a well-constructed yeah that is a written out
somebody wrote it can't deliver it but it is by definition it is a joke and it fits it
You can do the math.
You can, yeah.
Which is not like this person looks like this person, wink, wink.
This is a left trap joke where I'm trying to get you to admit that you believe the thing that we believe even though you don't.
You're so triggered.
You people are protect.
We insulted you and you're like, oh, they insulted us and we're like, ha ha, we got you because you don't believe the things that we do.
but you know that we believe it.
So your offense, it's, I fucking hate them all.
So stupid.
Another thing just to mention about this evening is that it is wild when you remember that
this is about giving out awards to different outlets and journalists for their reporting.
To take a word.
Mostly about Donald Trump and his administration.
And the backdrop of this administration suing a lot of these organizations over this reporting.
wild times people very wild
free speech president but that is what it is
I honestly had forgotten that the last one
was foiled by an assassination attempt
genuinely had ejected that from my brain
we should start doing White House correspondence dinners
every three months now because Trump will just be like
that one didn't go well let's do let's have a redo
one more one more do it again I'll tell the joke again
so people don't love Trump's jokes
clearly, because they're bad and you perform them well. People don't seem to like when he says
most things. People seem to be annoyed about his policies and appalled by all the war and the continuing
war over the war. A lot of people not really like all the ice stuff consistently. Seems like everybody
is not a big fan of Donald Trump these days. But maybe he can turn.
it around. Do you think he can turn it around?
John, and then what's he, what could be he possibly do to turn it around?
Another White House correspondence dinner.
I mean, it goes back and forth to maybe he's going to come up with some ridiculous plan,
but then he sabotages that seemingly and, and then doesn't care.
They have this housing bill that, you know, should over time help build more housing.
A little bit with the housing.
He did.
Didn't you say, uh, no?
Yeah, he refused to sign it because of the Save America Act, which he has referred to as the deep-throated Save America Act.
I mean.
And he wouldn't sign the housing bill.
So now it's taking effect despite him.
He will, I'm sure, try to claim if there are any benefits down the road.
But he's losing ground even slowly among people who voted for him in 2024.
Among his 2024 voters, he started out with 95% approval among white people.
that's down to 81% among the young people who voted for him.
It's down to 57%.
I know all of this still seems very high, but like he should, if he started with 92% approval
among under 34 people who voted for him, it should not have dropped by 35 points.
That is bad.
No, that's that's bad.
That is wild.
76% of people in a CBS news poll say the war with Iran has been harder than expected.
Only 19% say they're operating.
optimistic about it. And overall, Trump voters seem to see this, the one big, beautiful bill as benefiting the wealthy and not helping the working class.
Good, good point. Good point from them. Two things. Depressing that so many people do still support the man. But as Jonathan's already stated, this is a significant drop. And not enough for him to win again. If he was to do this again.
I don't think. I shouldn't say that. Maybe it is. I'm jigsing ourselves. I'm just saying I don't think you would win with these numbers if he was to run today.
No. There's like multiple reasons he's not running for president in 2028 and a secondary one after the Constitution and all that stuff is that like the Republicans probably don't want him to run.
They're like, we would have a better chance of winning with this juiceless dork vice president that everyone hates.
Too bad. It's too bad. He doesn't.
care. He does not care. He will
he will not care that they don't
want him to do that. He will be so
mad when they try to
pivot to JD. Who is
as you said a dork loser. Or Marco.
I don't think he gives a shit about
his approval ratings that much because he keeps
doing the very unpopular things. He keeps saying
the very unpopular things. He keeps
pretending as though
affordability isn't a big deal.
It is. To your base
to all of us it is. He keeps calling that
fake. He keeps saying the Democrats made up that word. He said it again. It's not a fake word, sir. It's a real
word. And the other thing he's trying to do, I guess, to get on voters good side. I don't know if this
counts as something he's trying to do to get on anyone's good side is he's found another law
to justify more tariffs on like 80 different countries. He's citing the section 3, section 301 of
the Trade Act of 1974. He's already been sued over it because I guess it probably does not give
and the authority to do this,
including, like, extra punishing tariffs on Canada
because...
Because of their wildfires?
Yeah, the smoke from their fires
is coming down here.
They didn't put up a big net or whatever.
Meanwhile,
we also have wildfires that are blowing smoke over the country.
How do we know which smoke is coming from their wildfires
or from our wildfires?
He can tell.
We need, like, some sort of screen.
You can tell.
You're like a screen for the smoke to...
He's like, that smells...
That's Canadian timber.
Their smoke is in...
fading our country.
We need to secure our borders from the enemies.
You know, any kind of justification he can.
But these will probably take effect while, you know, the legal, you know, wrangling is ongoing.
He can probably just do this forever.
Tariffs get struck down.
He can find another law point at some obscure thing, you know, blow dust off the town charter and say,
I can do tariffs here.
and, you know, prices swing wildly based on that.
So, no, this is not good for anybody, not good for people's wallets,
which I've been told to care about.
You know, he's trying to, he's backing off the war again, I guess.
But maybe not for that reason, maybe because our munitions are depleted.
Yeah, they've been depleted.
He keeps talking about how that happened and then we're running out of oil,
so we need to stop the war.
So I assume those things are still true.
It is concerned.
that he said multiple months ago,
we run out of oil in four weeks.
He said that.
But we know that.
We haven't.
Two weeks later.
Speaking of things that the president says and does
that are actually not popular,
revising the death count from the war on the Pentagon website.
Oh, yeah.
I mean.
Wild.
So the recent force service members,
who were killed, they removed those
from the death toll of the war, so it's now
18 down to 14,
the idea being that, well,
these deaths took place after a ceasefire.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't
after the cease, wasn't even during the
ceasefire. First off, that's bullshit, because
it's all part of this war that never ended
at all, ceasefire or not.
But it was active.
It was happening again.
We were exchanging fire, bomb
shit up, and
they were retaliating. I mean, this is
this is wild. This just happened.
Yeah, they're arguing, though, that, well, since we signed a ceasefire and no one ever said we unsigned it, this doesn't take place during the war.
So the war had been going on for 47 years and stopped back at the ceasefire and has not since resumed despite all the blowing each other back and forth.
47 year of war is over.
And it's weird because Trump had acknowledged this 18 number because he put it in his truth social post where he compared.
it to deaths in other wars
and how it's like so super
small compared to Vietnam
and World War II. So what are you
all complaining about? Fewer people
died this war than
World War II.
Stupid asshole. In this four-month-old war versus
World War II? Yeah. So yeah, he's
not wrong. But how
many people died during the
that Afghanistan
pullout? Was it 13
I think? Or was that Benghazi?
Well, either way, those were the two
worst things that ever happened in the history of the country when they happened under
Democratic.
When Ghazi and then we pulled out Afghanistan, which was going to happen, Trump got that ball rolling
anyway and whatever.
Right.
So the Afghanistan pull out worst thing.
I literally think he said, like, this is the worst thing that's ever happened to our country.
Something like that.
I'll look it up.
But now his, you know, little excursion, his nonsense, uh, violence.
in the Middle East, it doesn't matter what happens there because it's less than the million
plus from World War II.
What a, what a jerk.
What a jerk.
It was 13 people in Afghanistan.
To be clear, also 170 Afghan civilians.
Yeah, that's an important thing to include.
But he is not including.
Oh, no, he doesn't.
No, no, of course.
He's not.
No.
All right, gentlemen.
it's been real
it's been fun
it's been real fun
being back
in the hot seat
yeah
