Hello, on today's episode, we are talking about how the war might almost be over if Iran agrees to what they've already agreed to, apparently, plus the California gubernatorial race and how worried we currently are about hauntavirus.
Hello, welcome back to even more news, the first and the only news podcast.
My name's Katie Stoll.
Kay Stoll.
Hi.
Hello.
I like the energy.
I'm going to try to match it.
How are you?
Asks me by the name of Cody.
Johnston.
I'm doing pretty okay for the moment until we start talking about the horrors.
Well, we'll obviously get to the horrors.
Yeah.
Jonathan, though, is also here.
Hi.
Hello.
Hi.
Hello, everybody.
Jonathan, how are you doing?
Oh, I'm good.
I feel good.
I've got, uh, this is like the tail end of when I can drink coffee.
I go to sleep before you guys go to sleep.
So I have to really cut myself off, uh, as an old with my caffeine.
What time do you go to bed?
I once had a conversation with Cody
where I said maybe don't text Jonathan
too late and then I don't know if your
ringer's off. My ringer's never
on so you can text
whenever and I'll see it in the morning.
Jonathan, Jonathan, wake up. Jonathan,
why aren't you awake? Why aren't you responding?
Jonathan, you're fired. Jonathan, just kidding.
Oh, geez. We couldn't live without you.
Make sure you send the
those are the types of texts I do send.
It's not, did you see the thing?
Did you see this fucking idiot?
Well, it's usually like, hey, do you see this thing?
Oh, this guy's embarrassing himself.
Which guy?
You'll see.
You know the guy.
Guess one of the five.
Oh, look, there's a podcast between two dullards.
Which two?
You know.
Maybe it's time to start the podcast.
I'll text you later some suggestions.
I'll just start talking about the news.
War.
What is it good for?
Nothing.
And you know what?
Absolutely nothing.
It's going.
The war, yes.
the war is going
there's a deal
maybe there's a deal happening
people already profited off of there may be being a deal
this week but we don't know
we're apparently waiting to hear back from Iran
but wait did those
they sent out a memo to not profit off the war
of the deals and stuff
yeah they told everyone not to profit and then
at least you know according to some
analysts a lot of
shorting of oil
right before a potential deal
or an announcement that there might be a deal
in the future.
In fairness, people are really, really eager
to believe that there might be a deal
and to lower the cost of oil
and put money into the market.
They're like, it's just going to happen.
Oh, because it's a bad situation we're in.
Because a bad situation has been created.
Yeah, but also in fairness,
people love, especially within this administration,
love to take advantage of the,
betting markets as it pertains to world news, economic news, or livelihood.
Any news.
You know, to be fair, people suck.
Yeah, to be fair.
I didn't think about that.
Gambling is the economy.
So, but according to Marco Rubio, Operation Epic Fury is over.
We are done with that stage of it.
How long did that stage last a day or two?
Between three days and four to six weeks, whatever.
the guy says because the guy, the president Donald Trump, the next day intimated that it was not yet over, but it's
really tough. Here's what he wrote. I really want to read this truth social post from Wednesday morning.
Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to, which is perhaps a big assumption, the already
legendary epic fury will be at an end and the highly effective blockade will allow the Hormoz
to be open to all, including Iran, if they don't agree to what they've agreed to, the bombing starts,
and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, President Donald J. Trump.
So assuming they agree to what they agreed to, then the thing that's over will end.
And then if they don't agree, the thing that's over won't end, and it'll be worse than it ever was.
But it's if they agree to what they already agreed to.
Yeah, I mean, we're literally like we have the two people at the door in Labyrinth being like, what would he say if you ask me?
You know, we're in just gibberish interpretation.
I don't know why people can't just take the president at his word.
He's very clear, okay?
If they agreed to the thing that they already agreed to, but there's no counting on them agreeing to what they already agreed to,
couldn't be clearer, most transparent president ever.
Do you want to see Trump explain this dynamic?
to a bunch of children.
Oh, yes.
Does he put a piece of candy on their heads?
Does he ruin Santa for them?
You should do that.
He should do that minion thing over and over,
put the candy on their head.
No costume necessary.
Just like, bring me the poison.
And then takes the poison to put some on the-
class.
So these folks are in the Oval Office
to, because Trump was signing an executive order
reinstituting the presidential fitness test,
which he's doing because Obama took it away
forever to be more, I guess, body positive and replace it with something else. So it's fine. Fine. Presidential
Fitness test, great. You're reinstituting it. Honestly, if this is the only thing you had done as president and done
nothing else, you'd be at like 55% approval now. It did book up kids and it is unfair and blah, blah, blah.
But yeah, okay, whatever. Yeah, it was replaced with like a youth sports program and like everyone's
body's different and stuff and we're not doing that anymore. Anyway, so Trump is there. RFK juniors behind him.
Linda McMahon is there.
Pete Hegseth is there for some reason.
Hell yeah.
About her.
Linda McMahon.
Yeah, A1.
We're all charging ahead with A1 now.
These are future people to die for him, right?
These are future flyers that need to work out at the airport.
Oh, you're thinking of Duffy.
No, these are future war fighters that he can send to go blow up other children.
Ranging an age from, it looks like, 6 to 12 or 13.
One of them literally yawns during this.
Anyway, here's true.
Let's watch it.
Who is asked a question about the war because he just takes questions when he's doing other stuff.
So all these kids are standing around him and then he starts talking about the war.
And now we're going to take a hit because we have to make a journey down to Iran to take the nuclear weapon.
Pause it.
Sorry.
Just like sometimes it's just like some days when he starts talking like, and, oh, God, okay, where's the facts of the matter?
Like the first word out of his mouth was like, he is dead.
Also, I just want to punch in on that kid with the big old on.
Yeah.
Should we blur their faces?
I guess their parents put them into this.
They put them on.
They've been on TV now.
Yeah, it's not on us.
We want to be like, these kids don't have a choice.
They don't know what's going on.
But whatever.
Their parents put them in there using them as props for this shit.
All right, let's see him struggle to start a sentence again.
They would have had a nuclear weapon in, within two weeks.
Remember, we sent that beautiful.
B-2 bomber in and we blew up their nuclear potential. It was obliterated for those that are not aware
and to a point where they would take them weeks to dig down and we wouldn't let them dig down.
We have our eyes on it all the time, but it was a very important thing. So we would have had
an Iran with a nuclear weapon and maybe we wouldn't all be here right now. I can tell you,
the Middle East would have been gone, Israel would have been gone.
That's a thing you don't say to children
Maybe we wouldn't be here right now
It's a wild thing to say to children
Also that literally nobody believes
It's just a thing he says
Also just have to remind everybody
Over and over again
Day one of this war
We bombed school children
Yeah we bombed other children
Like he's fear
He's like they would have bombed you
So we bombed their kids instead
We decided to do that
What a weird guy.
What are you doing?
The kids are acting are responding appropriately, I would say.
Oh, yeah, he's pointing at, look at that B2 bomber.
Kids are looking around.
Like, you know, it's all just reaction shots in a, in a mockumentary series from these kids.
For someone who supposedly has had several kids and grandchildren, he sure doesn't know how to behave around them.
Ostensibly, he has children and grandchildren.
So we've heard.
In theory, like, when you.
think about it. He has kids.
Like if you were to...
He should say, okay, we're done with the event.
Everyone else is going to leave and now I'm going to take questions because I have to do that
and I love doing that.
It's my favorite thing in the world, yeah.
Because it hasn't worked out lately.
There was the Door Dash grandma that he wanted to go on a rant with him about trans athletes
or transgender for everyone, whatever.
She wouldn't do that and he's like, all right.
You know, he just kind of like gave up on it.
He tried that one with the kids too.
He tried that with the kids too.
We can watch that as well if you want.
This poor kid, he tries to get in.
on his anti-trans nonsense.
What about you?
Look at this guy's a big guy.
I'm doing football right now, and next year I'm going to be trying to do powerlifting.
Oh, wow.
Wow.
That's awesome.
And you'll never compete against women in powerlifting.
That's right.
Did you see that they had a man in powerlifter?
He decided to go the opposite direction.
Took a record.
He stood for 18 years.
He beat it by 119 pounds.
18 pounds. Okay? They put the little quarter of an ounce, quarter of enough.
To 18 years it stood, this guy came, he was a failed power lifter. And he went on the other
side and he decided that he wanted to go into women's sports and he broke the record by 118 pounds.
I think that's fair? I don't think we have to worry about you. One, it's just a bunch of shit
he's making up, right? There's no, it's, he wanted to go into his little bit where he was like,
Which is, and I've talked about this before, where it's a bit making fun of cis women being power lifters.
He's like, oh, they can't do it.
The concept of it, yeah.
Right, yeah.
Like, he's making fun of them in the bit and then uses it to attack trans people.
And just, like, make that kid uncomfortable.
I don't think he knows what he's talking about.
Bringing it back to how the war is going.
We don't know.
Well, it's just hard to
get a real sense
of what's going on over there
from the president specifically.
It's much easier if you, you know,
just the New York Times and Al Jazeera
and then maybe listen to Marco Rubio
talk about like his unvetted thoughts
that Trump will contradict the next day
where he criticizes Iran for doing stuff that we do
like killing protesters
and blowing up boats.
Yeah, I mean, we've never had accurate or concise information
or a real read of what's going on.
It has seemed to be in this holding pattern of will they, won't they end it.
But regardless, oil has not been passing through the straight in a very long time.
We've talked about this before,
and it's hard to know how much weight to give or not give to the warnings of,
you know, supply chain issues, how we're going to feel the effect.
of this oil shortage very shortly. It does still feel like in COVID where there's all these
warnings and it's hard to know what to take seriously, what to not take seriously. But
the warning signs are all there. And even if we were to wave a magic wand and oil, you know,
the straight is open and all of this oil starts moving, we're a billion barrels behind where we
should be and that is only going to compound even after it opens up because we also don't know
the extent of the damage to any of the facilities we do not know if exports will be crude or
refined we don't have any information about that and it is starting to look like years worth of
catching up and to me some of this waffling on his end or the lack of a clear pick
of what's happening or is about to happen well i mean obviously that's just his mo but i think that
they know that this is really fucking bad they don't they know that they can't keep bombing that they
can't resort like otherwise wouldn't they have you know that you're going to make it so much
worse we're all fucked is the point is what i feel in my heart but we'll see we were talking
about this before we started recording it's hard to know to what extent
anything.
Cody, you got something.
Oh, no, I just agree with you.
I mean, it's like, it's, they don't know what they're doing and they, uh,
realized this was a mistake pretty early on.
And if like you're saying, like, if they thought that like, there's a reason they're
like, Operation Epic Fury, it's done.
We're done with that.
We, we won.
But also, we'll do Operation Epic Fury too.
If you don't do, if you don't do what we need you to do, which.
which you're only doing because we started bombing you with the first thing.
And like, it's just this sort of like, they can't,
they don't know how to save face in this situation.
They can't.
Like the stated purpose of what we're doing now,
according to Marco Rubio, is to get the straight open,
which it was beforehand.
Now, their new line and they're talking about this on Fox today,
if like the straight wasn't open, they were controlling it.
It's like, okay, but the oil was all getting through
and there were no issue.
like what are you controlling it like what are you controlling it now for sure also like do you like
you like do you forget that like three day period where trump was like actually so we're going to open
the straight again and we're going to it's going to be a toll system and they're going to we're going to
take a cut they're going to take a cut and that's the new deal that's better than it was before like
they don't they just have got to say something right and at this point both sides would look because
you know Iran's economy is getting hit very hard there's reporting
today that they can withstand several months of this blockade and they're probably willing to
deal with a lot more economic pain than we are. But at a certain point, Trump's going to have
to give them something. Like, it's very unlikely that he'll get anything, certainly anything better
than the JCPOA than the Iran nuclear deal. It's going to be, if anything, something like
that with a little sugar on top for Iran, since now they have more leverage.
and I wish he would just do it and declare it a win.
And it's probably the best for him and his party's midterm chances.
There's reporting in Bloomberg today,
this headline,
consumers are running out of money and cutting back CEOs worn.
And it's happening to the lowest income people the most, obviously.
Like when gas goes up from $3 a gallon to $450 a gallon,
that hurts certain people a lot more than others.
And they're going to stop spending money.
And, you know, even though the top line data doesn't show that we're in a recession,
I think for like half of Americans or more, we're in a recession.
We are.
We are.
I mean, I say that was such confidence for someone who is not an economist.
But these words have been tossed around a lot for a while now.
It's only compounding people.
The job market sucks for people, especially anybody.
that's worked in tech that's been laid off. Ask them how the economy's doing, how this feels.
It's just wild. Nobody really understands what's happening. And then you have people like,
Acid, let's play this clip of him coming out and saying the economy's great credit card spending's up.
And so the consumer is really, really firing on all cylinders just like the corporate sector you're
seeing in the earnings reports. And they're doing that because they have so much more money
in their pockets. In fact, I had the head of one of the big five banks.
in my office yesterday going through the credit card data.
And just as Secretary Besant said, credit card spending is through the roof.
They're spending more on gasoline, but they're spending more on everything else, too.
Credit card spending is up.
They're spending more on gasoline and they're spending more on other things, too.
People put stuff on credit cards when they don't have cash, my dude.
Spending is through the roof on credit cards.
People have money.
So they're spending it all.
This guy's a clown
That is an alarming thing
To be saying on network television
With a smile
And juxtaposed with
CEOs warn
People are running out of money
Doesn't quite
Add up
Whirlpool
Are like yeah
We expected people to come back
And be buying big ticket items
They're not doing that
Because prices are going up
And they can see what's happening
They expect them to go up more
Sean Duffy was on TV today saying, oh, you should take a road trip this summer.
Like, okay, man.
Take a look at the sign.
It says 619 over there.
Roughly.
Like the, oh, like American camping trips are not happening.
This guy, I'm sorry.
I don't know we're going to talk to Sean Duffy, but like, he's just like, so Secretary of Transportation, right, you got to like change the culture, right?
That's my my job is to change the culture and like give people like advice on like what they should do.
Like does he think his role is to go on TV and just say you got to start doing road trips, folks.
You got to start doing pull-ups at the airport.
Do your job.
Just go away.
Do real real world White House.
Yeah.
This is like Bush telling everyone to go shopping after 9-11.
Like we got to keep the thing moving.
Yeah, but the thing is really expensive.
The thing everyone likes to do in the summer, travel and stuff,
is way more expensive than what it used to be a year ago,
which was way more expensive than what it was five years previous.
I'm nervous for everybody.
I'm nervous for tourist economies.
I'm just nervous for everybody.
Thanks, Joe Biden.
Hey, everyone, okay, not to alarm you,
but Mother's Day is in a few days.
If that just made you do a spitz.
take, hopefully not on your actual mother, then I've got good news for you!
1-800 flowers has been helping people send beautiful bouquets to moms for 50 years,
and they can even help you out if you waited until the last minute to get her a Mother's Day gift this year.
So, listen up while you get a bath towel to wipe off your mom from the spit tick that you did earlier.
Okay, right now when you order one dozen roses from 1-8-8-8-1.
800 flowers. They will double your bouquet to two dozen for free. Every bouquet is picked at peak
freshness, carefully packaged, and backed by a freshness guarantee. Okay, now finish drying
off your mother, explain to her that you're watching a YouTube show and or podcast,
explaining what those things are. Apologize for the spit take and then remember the Mother's Day
thing again and do another spit take, just when she got all dry.
Oh, gosh, your poor mom, she really, you really should buy her some flowers to make up for all that spit-taking.
Okay, Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10th, and bouquets are selling out fast.
Trust me, don't wait.
To claim your double roses offer before they're gone, visit 1,800flowers.com slash news.

You can say this is all my fault.
But then do one more spit-take, because it's really fun.
Honey, the rule of threes.
You know, you had to.
Explain that to, explain the rule of threes,
and that's just, that's how combi works.
Nothing against her.
Oh, also, go to 1-800flowers.com slash news.
When the week is over, I got to be honest.
I enjoy having a drink with a few close, short-haired friends.
And that's why I use the world's first genetically engineered probiotics,
Z-biotics, pre-alcohol probiotic drink.
It's just like those precogs for Minority Report.
Except it's called pre-alcohol and is a probiotic drink instead of human beings lying in a little pool.
So it's different.
It was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
Here's how it works.
When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut.
It's a build-up of this byproduct, not dehydration, that's to blame for rough days after drinking.
Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this by-product down.
Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night.
Drink responsibly.
and you'll feel your best tomorrow.
I make it my first drink when I'm hanging out with my friends, the pre-cogs, in that little pool,
and I feel great the next day.
I sneak in after closing time, and the Department of Pre-crime is none the wiser.
And then the next morning, I'm fresh and ready to play with that little moving digital wall thing.
Remember?

Let's talk about some special elections.
Yeah.
Okay.
Let's get some good stuff in.
Let's get some.
Hey.
Look at that.
Oh, we're a democracy in the age of...
You can still vote.
Sometimes one party wins, sometimes the other party wins, the way it's supposed to go.
Democrats overperformed again, notably in Michigan's 35th State Senate District,
which Kamala Harris won by less than a point in 2024.
But Democratic candidate Chedric Green won by just under 20 points, which will keep a Democratic majority in the Michigan State Senate.
And since it's a, you know, Midwest district, this kind of bodes for, well, yeah, it's a special election.
So the same Republican who just lost is vowing to run again in a few months.
But it seems to be kind of a bellwether thing if Democrats are overperforming by 20 points than where they were or 19 points than where they were a couple years ago.
He's wildly unpopular?
Yeah.
Is he in his party wildly unpopular?
which doesn't always matter in the midterm.
Bigly unpopular.
Speaking of how unpopular is, I just have to point out
there's a very funny poll recently of MAGA voters,
mega folk, and it was percentage who support or believe in X.
And the three Xs are ghosts, telepathy,
and building the ballroom.
The ballroom was at the very bottom.
I mean, this was all Americans.
This was not just MAGA.
It wasn't just MAGA?
Yeah.
I thought it was a MAGA.
This was a Gallup and ABC WAPO, Washington Post poll.
39% of Americans support or believe in ghosts.
29% support or believe in telepathy.
28% the new White House ballroom.
Okay, okay.
I thought it was just MAGA, which was very harrowing for them.
Interesting question.
Believe in.
Like, I believe that's being attempted.
What do you mean?
39% ghosts.
Do you know what?
Count me as one of them.
Bring it up to 40%.
That's how it is.
I don't think it's weighted like that.
So if they ask me, it goes up a percent.
That's like Trump's math of like, well, we're sending the prices down 18,000 percent.
Count me in 40%.
Telepathy?
I don't know.
Okay.
Fascinating.
Yeah, wildly and popular.
and seems to be the case in most elections,
which is why they're wildly trying to gerrymander
all these areas before the midterms
because they know what's coming for them.
Even though ballots have been sent out.
Tennessee today just carving up Memphis very racistly.
Yes.
Yeah.
It's really not.
Partisanly, you mean.
Partisanly, yeah.
And all they need to do is get on board.
with banning partisan gerrymandering and we can move forward,
but they're not going to do that because they love it.
It's their sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet heart.
I still think the midterms are going to be a net positive.
I'll just keep saying that.
But I'm getting worried about all of it, though, for sure.
There's certainly making moves and throwing everything they can to see what sticks.
And it's not good.
Yeah, I don't need to like lean into the metaphor too much.
much, but like there is a blue wave coming. And what they're doing is like trying to build these
little fences and these like they're trying to do these little things to mitigate it. And it's still
on its way and it's still going to be powerful because again, wildly unpopular. Yeah.
But it's just depends how much they're able to do. And in what areas and stuff. You know,
it sucks. Yeah. And then what the Virginia Supreme Court decides to do with that redistricting plan that
at least people voted for.
It would be so sweet.
I don't know if it'll happen.
It'll be so sweet if Florida screws themselves
and carves things up a little too tight.
If it's such a wave that they lose seats,
it's Florida.
I don't expect that.
That place is...
Yeah, but, I mean, things keep going
and the way they're going.
I don't know.
Maybe he'll start another fucking shit war.
Maybe another birthday card will be released.
And Trump still has some sway with MAGA voters. Obviously, he got revenge on a bunch of Indiana
state senators who defied his redistricting push at least five, maybe six now of the seven of those
people who were up for re-election lost their primaries to MAGA challengers endorsed by Trump.
And in, of course, many in these districts, those MAGA people will win. Sometimes it hurts them
because they put forth unelectable people. But the MAGA Trump like endorsements,
bump is like very fickle.
But it's still defy
Trump at your own peril.
I think we talked about this a few days ago, but
2028's going to be so weird because you're going to
have a bunch of candidates who
both need to distance themselves
from Trump to
you know, because he's so unpopular.
But if they do that, they have no chance
in the primary because
Trump will destroy them. And maybe
in the general too. He might just sink the whole
ship. Yeah. If they try to distance
themselves enough from him, he's going to be like, well, fuck it. Fuck all you. I'll do it.
I'll do it again. So why is someone else being interviewed and getting attention? I don't like that.
Like, he might not be able to help himself if he is in fact alive and conscious. Right. As opposed to like 2032 is going to be a lot easier. There'll be a period of time. There'll be that distance that they can just pretend.
They're all going to pretend. We all know what they're going to try to do. Worked last time. Four years. Oh, maybe this guy
fine exactly um and all these republicans can pretend i was against it whatever they're they're they're
all gonna pretend like it didn't happen um and that's not quite gonna work in 2028 probably whereas the next
cycle they'll also have like oh whatever democrat was the president oh we hate them and don't we want to
you know and supposedly the electoral college is going to be friendly to them throughout the 2030s so
you know we're in this for the long haul folks
Should we talk about the California
Gubernatorial?
It's still hard to not say all this stuff
with Schwarzenegger's voice, right?
After being the
Sacramental, the gubernator race.
It's been a long time, but I still feel like he owns.
Your votes, give them to me.
Yeah.
Okay, so yeah, California governor's race,
the top two vote getters go to the general election,
regardless of their party.
There was some concern for a while
that there were so many Democratic candidates,
and only two Republicans that those two Republicans would get the most votes.
It doesn't look like that's going to happen.
It's going to be this Republican Fox News guy, Steve Hilton,
and whatever Democrat comes out on top right now between billionaire and environmental activist,
Tom Steyer, Javier Becerra, who is the former California Attorney General
and former HHS Secretary under Biden and former Congresswoman Katie Porter.
Katie Porter's not going to do it.
She needs to drop out.
It doesn't seem like she's able to.
Look, I campaigned for Katie Porter when I was still in the last day.
I drove out of my way.
I really liked her.
And I think she was fantastic in Congress, you know, with the whiteboard and everything.
There have been videos that are unpleasant released of her and rumors of chewing out staffers, et cetera.
But then also a lot of staff members coming out and saying absolutely not she's an incredible person.
and wonderful to work with.
I very much could see
a sexist double standard happening.
I don't know for sure.
You know, I'm someone that generally
against being abusive
and especially to employees.
You know, I understand I get short-tempered at times.
I am chained to the desk right now.
And you're going to stay chained to your desk, Jonathan.
So you're not supposed to even mention
the chains, Jonathan.
We're going to have to get our lawyers involved.
He mentioned the chains.
Oh, I signed a chain DA.
I'm not allowed to mention, yeah.
But no, to your point, to your point, Katie, I think, like, I, you know, I'm, I try
to be very sensitive to those things, too, because there is often like, oh, that guy, he's,
like, he's all business, and he's just straightforward, and he tells it like it is,
and he's, like, gets things done as opposed to if a woman did it, it's like, oh, she's,
like, too, she's nasty and all this sort of stuff.
There is definitely that there.
Some of the videos are pretty unpleasant.
It's unclear.
But regardless, it doesn't seem like she's got a lane.
And what she very probably is doing at this point is pulling support away from the other candidates.
And of the other candidates, I like the billionaire.
You know, the one that's saying the stuff.
That's, you know, so he is the more progressive candidate.
He is out here talking about closing corporate tax loopholes,
wanting universal pre-K health care for Californians.
Explicitly saying abolish ICE.
Abolish ICE.
All of this.
Prosecute them.
And you can have conversations about his past, how he made his money.
Yep.
Hedge fund manager.
He very publicly said that he made a choice to use his money.
money to pursue progressive policies that he has seen how destructive this is. He also has a
first-hand look at how this system works. He understands it differently than a lot of people.
And he is out there unapologetically saying these things. And that's what we want. We want someone
that is saying it. I'm not thrilled. It's a billionaire. But if you're going to be a billionaire
spending your money on trying to change the world, you know what? I like that. I think there is
value in just in the forefront, just like on stage, on display to people, a class trader
and how that's okay in certain, like, there are two types of class traitors. One of them's good,
one of them is bad. And if he's going to be the good one, I think that there is value in
talking about that. He even said he's like social media. I don't know if he's saying it,
but calling himself a class traitor.
And I think there is value in getting someone out there to bring class consciousness to people
more and to even have that be a topic of conversation and in their minds of, oh, there is like sort of
a class of work going on.
Oh, you can actually support these things and these things and these things.
And sort of proudly being like, yeah, I'm going against what my class interests are and
getting people to sort of be more aware of that. I think that's what I think that's I think that's
him like like like like how do you trust it you trust any politician I don't know well because it's not
it's also not the same way as like you know right wing populace like a Donald Trump type
is like yeah we're all billionaires and like we take advantage of the system and like the elites
you know like that's vague nonsensical stuff he's Trump isn't saying he's a class traitor
he and I think that being very explicit about that is good.
I do also want to acknowledge that there isn't a candidate in the race that is super personable
or is grabbing Californians by the heartstrings, you know, we don't have that.
But I'm liking Tom so far.
There was one interaction that I saw of him and Katie Porter from one of these debates
where she was trying to get him on not supporting this proposed billionaire tax.
And he repeatedly says, no, Katie, I would support it.
I would and we'll vote for it.
I would and we'll vote for it.
But I don't think it goes far enough because it's a one-time tax.
I want to propose other stuff.
Like, yeah, fine, do that.
But I'm saying that that is smoke and mirrors to a degree because that's not fixing things long term for us.
This is what I want.
want someone up there saying that, pointing it out.
Being able to point that stuff out and say, that is not far enough.
And here's why.
And here's what I want to do instead.
Yeah, I think we can both vote for him and put him on the t-shirt, you know?
Like, I think he'll wear the t-shirt.
Right.
Right, exactly.
We should probably, let's give him a T-shirt.
Let's send him a T-shirt.
And I feel like, the thing is like in these races, I don't really ask for much.
I want someone to champion the policies that I think would be better for people.
And he's the guy that's doing that.
And Becerra isn't only the Democratic establishment pick.
He has an inability to be specific in these debates.
It seems like he's trying to play the corporate angle as well as pain everyone else is too extreme so that he can win.
And there's just stuff about him.
That obviously the hit pieces that are coming at him are from his time at HHS.
He wanted migrant children out of their.
their custody, like an assembly line he referred to them as in 2023, maybe saying it that way for
political reasons because he doesn't want to be hit by Republicans for not being tough enough
or whatever.
But not great and not how you would want a Democrat or anyone to refer to children, taking
money from oil companies and saying, well, we need Chevron and things like that.
If he's the guy, if it's him and Steve Hilton, we'll all, you know, do what you.
you got to do. I guess so yeah. It's like I don't want to have to do that. Yeah, I agree.
Also previously saying that he was four single payer healthcare, but now says we need to build
toward it without really detailing what that means. And he avoided the question a lot in the
debate this week, which Steyer's team made a compilation of effectively. Because he's a politician
through and through. That's the other thing about it. And the position on billionaires still
stams. We've got the shirt in the shop. But there is something about Tom Steyer in this specific
race, which is both of like Bacera is an establishment Democrat. He has spent his career working this
system. He's constrained by that. That's me being generous. Being constrained by that. No, you've
handed your soul over to this party and let's not pretend that this party as, you're, you're, you've handed your soul over to this party as
it stands in the establishment sense
is lined
with us, you know, but
Tom Steyer is
self-funded. He doesn't need
the job.
You know?
He wants the job. I do
want to make a slight correction. I was a little bit
unfair to Bissar about ICE.
He did say, I will investigate
ICE, we will prosecute ICE, we will convict ICE
at one point. But also
it's that sort of
way to talk about it. So, Kailin
Collins asked, do you also support prosecuting the leadership of ICE?
And his answer, I think we should police Donald Trump's masked mercenary force that they call
ice. I think we should like, and it's just sort of, it takes away a little bit from what
we're actually talking about. And it sort of creates, it's like when, um, was it, uh, who was it,
Pritzker that said, we're going to prosecute Trump's ice. It's like, but that is,
that means it specific to this, this administration.
Right, they're being politicians about it.
Yeah.
And it's like, why?
This is the California governor primary.
You actually can just shoot for the stars here.
You can not shoot for the stars.
You can be bold and say what you mean,
which suggests to me that that is what he means.
Maybe he's plenty bold, who knows?
Yeah, so maybe the primaries June 2nd,
maybe Porter will drop out and endorse Steyer.
maybe she'll you know improve and then it'll have a different conversation in a couple weeks we don't know yeah
that's the thing about all these election discussions to i'm always like yeah that's how it is now
but in two weeks it might be a different conversation um maybe she'll come out more strongly in favor of
things or i don't know i don't think so i don't think probably not also i'm so sorry katie you have got
next time you try to run different ad team this is
Your ads are painful.
I've seen a couple that are just very embarrassing.
The ad where she jokes about the video is it doesn't feel great.
And there's another one I can't even think about it.
It was just so corny and weird tonally.
And it's trying to be funny and it's missing.
And it's just not working for you.
You haven't found your media message.
And I hate what I'm about to say.
I don't.
I think a woman can win elections and win races.
I absolutely do.
But it is the reality
is that I do not think
that her polling
is going to improve.
If it does,
if she starts pulling out
of the single digits
and it's her
25%,
different story.
When we're just talking
about this a while ago,
I'm like,
you know what,
I like Katie Porter.
Then other stuff
started to chip out of way.
I've been,
I super have been impressed
by her work in Congress.
Like, really,
and I enjoyed meeting her
and enjoyed Katie Porter.
and enjoyed campaigning for her.
So I...
But then I became a misogynist.
And there's a double standard.
Like a man is, like, allowed to be a dick.
Or sometimes encouraged to be a dick.
Like, oh, yeah, you want this guy who's not going to take shit.
People like when Trump yells it.
Yeah.
It is unfair.
We hate him.
It is super unfair.
And also, I don't like what I saw.
She's pretty mean to that reporter for it seems like no reason.
I'm getting a lot of a lot of ads.
for that San Jose mayor, Matt Mahan.
Mayhan? Mayhan?
It doesn't seem like he's really catching any steam, but his ad's fine.
Talks about how he's building housing and reducing homelessness.
People seem to like him. He seems likeable guy who's done a pretty good job.
I just had like, like, I've only seen him ever mentioned in the ads that I see by him.
I know. And he'd talk about repealing the gas tax. Okay.
Well, right. He's like, this war, we didn't start and we're going to fix it by repealing the gas tax.
Okay, well.
But that said, he's on my radar now.
He's a real comer.
Watch him.
Not every news story needs a reaction the second it happens.
I mean, to be clear, I'm not talking about me.
It's literally my job and that people demand it.
But you, you, friend, do not need to react to everything the second it happens.
Sometimes you just got to step back from the news and exist for a minute.
And one thing to help but do that is hemp THC from Indy Cloud.

For me, Indy Cloud's energy gummies help me talk about news with clarity,
THC sodas for talking about the news with intention,
and flour for letting the news float off into the breeze like a well-informed butterfly.

You must be new here. Those WRFATs, S's are all available for free on Pluto TV.
It's a streaming platform. You get it. You get what I'm saying. You don't.

presented by Anthropic.
Also, I know that face, but what's his name?
Starring William Fitchner.
He was in one of those Grissom adaptations, I think,
starring William Sanderson.
And, no, that's not me.
You're thinking of George Weiner,
starring Stephen Toblowski.
Watch all that fluff and more at Pluto TV.
Stream now.
They never!
Should we move on to something else?
One more fun thing.
Oh, no, not fun.
Hanta virus.
Guy, is another pandemic?
Maybe will they, won't they?
It's not, like, good news, but it's not the, it's not like bad news.
It's not like, oh, my God, we got to worry about it.
It's just like.
I have been convinced by getting back into those, the virology and immunology blog post.
Oh, I missed it.
I missed writing about R. Knotts.
Oh, our nots are back.
Yeah.
Woo.
No.
So back, baby.
I've been convinced by the scientists that, like, bad, serious virus.
You don't want to going around unlikely to become the thing that takes over.
Unless there's some wild mutation that has happened that they don't know about yet.
But that doesn't seem to be the case.
No, no, no, that does not seem to be the case.
There's a Dutch cruise ship.
People came down with hantavirus, which you get from inhaling the fumes of rat poop and pee.
This variant appears to be the Andes virus, which is in the Andes in Argentina.
It seems like the people went on a birdwatching tour to a landfill.
Got it.
RFK stuff.
Yeah, yeah.
No, they were doing real maha at a landfill type stuff.
They, the husband died and then the wife didn't get sick for a couple weeks.
You know, there's a long incubation period.
Right.
But it was unknown.
Cruise is just like, okay, we keep going.
People die on cruise ships, we keep going.
Cruises are so funny.
Never go on one.
His wife gets sick a few weeks later, gets off the cruise ship, flies from this island, St.
Helena to Johannesburg, and then gets on another plane to fly back to the Netherlands,
and she's too sick, and they get her off.
She dies a few days later.
There have been three deaths and several other suspected cases.
but Andy's virus has gone human to human,
but that is not the primary way.
It passes.
It requires, it's not like COVID.
It's not airborne.
It's in respiratory droplets.
It requires saliva, close contact.
And so it's the kind of thing that it,
and it's only infectious for a short period of time.
They say, you know, you're infectious for like a day and then you die.
And it tends to kill people before they go to.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's more containable, quarantinable, and yeah.
Absolutely.
And we're tracing it.
I mean, in a way, they're all on a ship, so a lot of the, you know, you're able to isolate
that.
People are staying in there.
At least that point of contact, yeah.
That is to say it's not good.
This is a horrific situation.
I have a few things.
First off, it's just right now and hearing you put out the timeline, somewhat wild to me.
mean, I do not mean to speak ill of the deceased.
And I don't know, but I have a hard time with,
your husband died really quickly onto this cruise.
And then two weeks later, you got off of that cruise when you were sick to.
I would have left immediately to deal with funeral reign.
But regardless, but that does bring me to a point of the time,
the incubation period, which is apparently up to eight weeks,
which is a point of concern to a degree.
But again, if it was going to be spreading very wildly,
we probably would have had more information to that effect
because people were out and about prior to the ship.
There's not asymptomatic spread the way with COVID.
Yeah.
Also, so when this was first breaking, you look on Twitter
and all these people are asking GROC, like, wait,
Isn't it only from rats?
And Grok's like, yeah, no human, human transmission of Hanta virus.
And it's like, I know that we all know that that's not true.
We've all done a deep dive now.
We understand that there is a strain that has been proven.
There have been other outbreaks of small community groups from human to human transmission
that they knew of this variety, this strain.
My point is GROC is broken and dumb, but a lot of people online started freaking out about it really quickly.
and I also understand that we've got a bunch of collective trauma
from the not so distant past
and everything is bad right now
so it's very easy to go from A to Z.
Don't worry about Grock, Katie.
X-A-I is going to be dissolved
and then brought into SpaceX.
Well, didn't SpaceX make a deal with Anthropic
just recently?
so why wouldn't they make a deal with X-A-I?
Because GROC's bad at being, at being, at being.
Well, Anthropic has the better model, supposedly, and SpaceX has the compute.
You got to get that compute.
If you had that compute, maybe it wouldn't have made such a terrible mistake.
You're right about GROC.
I am right about GROC, I know that.
The being wrong.
The reason to not worry about a, uh,
a global pandemic from this is that this is not a novel virus.
Andy's virus has existed.
There's like 100 to 200 cases every year in Argentina, Chile and what have you.
And most of the time, they don't break out and cause outbreaks.
It does happen every decade or two.
The last one, I think, was 2018, 2019.
You referenced Katie.
And I think around 40 people got sick and 11 people died.
It's a horrible deadly virus that you do not want to get.
Yeah, it sounds really, really, really horrible.
A cruise ship just multiplies the R-Not, apparently, like the number of people that each person infects.
Yeah, cruises are disgusting.
A cruise ship is just a petri dish for this stuff because you're enclosed spaces.
Yeah.
You're stewing.
You're stewing and everybody.
I know several people on them right now.
Oh, gosh.
And so it's like we will probably see some more.
positive cases from this because it was kind of this perfect storm where it was on the cruise ship
and then a bunch of people got off the boat in St. Helena, like 24 people and flew around. Some of them
flew back to the United States, Europe, and all of those people have been contacted, I mean,
either actively contacted or they're trying to. They know who these people are. They know who they are.
So there were two people in Texas that the public health department got to and they say,
you've been exposed, just watch how you're feeling and stuff. And it's the kind of thing where once you get hit with
this thing, you're in better at the hospital.
You're not going to
wet. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. You're not.
It's, yeah, not
asymptomatic. You're not going to be... Sounds
absolutely awful. It's just a flu.
Terrifying. And to be clear, I don't want
it. Yeah, just to... Yeah, we don't want it. Just to piggyback
off of that real quick, I think
another reason, just sort of like,
don't worry, no reason to panic. Like, this isn't
going to be, like, a big
thing is I think
we have national leadership that
can step up and
like do what needs to be done and communicate really yeah I think um you know our president's like
first pandemic to deal with I think he'll do a pretty good job so yeah yeah for sure I remember
this went around in early COVID times but this it's even more relevant now because it's a similar
type of disease to Ebola in that it's extremely deadly but doesn't transmit person to person
as easily hemorrhagic fever and what have you, but Trump, during the Ebola mini crisis in 2014,
he posted, if this doctor who so recklessly flew into New York from West Africa, has Ebola,
then Obama should apologize to the American people and resign.
No one should be calling for Trump to resign over this because the people flew back to the
United States before they even knew they'd been exposed, right?
Like, of course it would be ridiculous.
If somebody else was president, he would be saying it.
But there are other reasons maybe he should resign.
While we're on the topic of pandemics and our leadership,
the FDA paid for research into the safety of the COVID and the shingles vaccines,
and then they found that it was indeed safe and effective.
And then the Department of Health and Human Services blocked the release of this research.
Well, I mean, it probably didn't have a bunch of, like, fake citations and studies.
No, no, no.
It was like a real study.
Well, that's why.
Exactly.
That's why.
You need to have more fake citations and hallucinations in your reports and studies.
Otherwise, they're not going to care about it.
Yeah, it's very depressing.
Well, it's tough in the transition from a real FDA to a fake FDA.
You're going to have a lot of studies changing hands and a lot of things that are real.
you got to try to fake them up a little bit
and when you can't fake them up
or they don't say what you want them to say
you just get rid of it.
And so they will come out with the report
that it's really ivermectin's better
and for hantavirus too.
Have you seen the ivermectin stuff?
Marjorie Taylor Green already is like
let's get the ivermectin for the hantavirus.
Marjorie.
Marjorie.
Oh, Marjorie.
Just when some people were
ignorantly beginning to like you.
Unsuspected turn from
Marjorie Taylor Green.
I know.
Who would have thought Marjorie Taylor Green of all people would be calling for
Ivermectin to treat a thing that you're probably not going to get?
That's the news.
The COVID and the shingles vaccines are good and fine and you should get them.
You don't need me to tell you that.
Whatever.
If the HHS secretary is saying, nah, you can still get it.
It's good.
It's fine.
It's effective.
And I think that is it for us today.
Nice.
Folks.
Folks.
We really did it.
We really got here.
