Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi, today we are talking about Trump's ban on the free press, how we almost went to war with China because of bad AI intelligence and the misconduct allegations against Lauren Bobert. Like and subscribe. Hi, hello and welcome back to even more news the first and only news podcast. My name is Katie Stoll. This is Benny. Say a woo, Benny speak. Hello there. I'm Cody.
Starting point is 00:00:38 That was Benny. by way of Katie and we are here on this fine morning afternoon evening. Jonathan is also here. Hi. We were thinking of replacing him with Benny
Starting point is 00:00:51 but I think he's about to leave. Bye Ben. Bye, buddy. Time for some news. The free press, not the outlet, the concept, is under attack from the president by his own admission.
Starting point is 00:01:04 A few days ago he I guess saw some unflattering coverage and banned CNN then MS now and Politico from the White House. They can't be part of the presidential pool anymore. Because he says they're fake and one-sided. And when asked about the ban a few days ago, he didn't know what ban they were referring to.
Starting point is 00:01:25 And he goes, oh, the ban on the free press, right? Just saying it out loud, folks. What a quote. Just saying it out loud. From the man himself. And then, you know, then on Monday morning, the networks, the other networks decided we're just going to, suspend pool coverage in general we're not going to you know in solidarity somehow uh they're not
Starting point is 00:01:45 going to go to the white house and cover his little events and thus it may have backfired it did backfire because that man loves attention he'll still be on the white house social media whatever it's not going to do what he wants it to do which is only have the fox news press in there covering him getting him on tv he's going to hate that he won't be able to stand it um um A couple thoughts. One, good job Fox News. Solidarity. I mean, they should.
Starting point is 00:02:14 They should be against this. They should be against limiting a free speech inherently. But in times like these, you know, cool, great. They could have been outvoted. Sorry. Second is that this is so blatantly illegal and he's tried this before and it hasn't stood. It's illegal. The courts will not allow it.
Starting point is 00:02:35 So it'll be for this week, I guess. Yeah. Also, it's just like, all right, then we're not going to give you what you want, which is constant coverage in 2026. And second year of your second term, it's over for you, sir. I was like, okay. But obviously, it's a good response to an actual attack on the press. Yeah, you would have preferred it to come at any point sooner. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:02:59 And he's now, I think someone reminded him that he said ban the free press. And so he put out a truth social this morning that says, the White House is not instituting an assault on the free press, something which I cherish. And then he said, doubtful, I don't agree, I don't agree. He says, I'm only doing it to the fake news, which has grown like a cancer in our beloved United States of America. Threat to our national security, as are many other things. But fake news has been his thing for 11 years, so it finally got to the point.
Starting point is 00:03:32 It was like just sort of festering and it wasn't bad enough until now, I guess. until Natalie showed him something rude. The fake news is out of control. You know, the fake news is ruining his presidency. The fake news would have you believe that people are unhappy, that people, the fake news would make you believe that people are fucking struggling right now in America, which is like so obviously hot right now. I'm so attracted to her.
Starting point is 00:04:04 I'm so horny for America because she's so hot. She's never been so hot before. And the fake news would make you think that what, people can't afford gas? He very much, you know, doesn't want to have to answer questions from CNN in public where they're like, hey, everyone in Iowa is talking about how diesel's so expensive and their lives are being ruined. Right. Exactly. He doesn't like seeing the constant reminders of people being unhappy. The consequences of his mistakes, of his actions, of the choices.
Starting point is 00:04:37 mistakes. Yeah. It is wild, though. You would think you would want these last weeks leading up to the midterms to be on that big old TV screen as much as possible telling people about their $5,000 checks if they vote for Republicans. People don't want those checks, actually. It's fascinating to see all the polling I've seen at least about specifically writing five, thousand dollar checks to everybody. They don't want them. They think it's a bad idea and they reject Trump's offer to give them money. Yeah, I do think it's interesting because you look at those polls and think,
Starting point is 00:05:19 well, they must have phrased it in a way. And it's like, no, do you think it's appropriate or inappropriate for the president to offer $5,000 checks? So maybe they're saying, of course I would want one, but it's inappropriate and it's also bullshit. We all know it's bullshit. Right. It's bullshit. But also like, I do think that because, you know, Okay, even the Doge checks, which obviously didn't happen and will never happen because that was a fraud and a failure. But even that's like, oh, we're going to do this. We're going to do this. We're going to save this. And will all the savings go straight to you.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Thanks, Doge. Like that's a slightly more of a sell, I think, to the general population. Whereas he just said out loud, we'll give you this money if you vote for us. If we win, we'll give you money. And I think that is like what is really like stuck with people because they heard him say it. They heard him say $5,000 if you vote for us only. Quid pro quo with quid the money, money pro quo. Money pro quo.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Like where you pro vote, money pro vote. And you vote, we give you money. And I think people just like, you can't do that. Like you can't explicitly say that. It's astounding though that it's happening. It's happening. And he said it. And people don't seem to like.
Starting point is 00:06:36 like it and good for everybody. Like it's the first poll we have in his presidency that he, and it's just one, and it's an outlier, but he's at 29% approval in the American Research Group poll. That's bad. He's not liked. I know that's bad, but that feels too high. 25 by December. We do want people to, we want politicians to promise something and then that being incentive for people to vote for them. But we want them to promise material changes to our daily lives. We want them to promise how they're legislatively going to fix what's broken, not offer us a bribe. Not a one-time check that it won't happen. A bribe that, well, as much as I would love $5,000, I don't think that's actually moving the needle
Starting point is 00:07:23 for people facing what we're facing right now, the threats of, you know, the AI bubble bursting, collapsing, the cost of price, the cost of beef. This isn't. It would move the needle for like a little bit. It would help with so many things. You pay this bill. You got this debt. Do this.
Starting point is 00:07:41 Do this. But then the money's run out and things are still so expensive. We're still doing a war and we're still like every single thing is not changed. He should promise to change the things that he already changed that made things worse so that your money goes farther than the lie of I promise you $5,000. Here's what he should have promised. I think what gets to people. And like we talked about years ago how the additional stimulus from the American Rescue Plan caused a portion, but not all of the inflation that we had a couple years ago. But I do think people internalized that.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Like everyone get money leads to prices going higher. So what he should have said is, I will give you $5,000 and nobody else and let people work with the logic puzzle in their own mind and be like, no, he said he's giving me $5,000. which won't cause inflation. It'll just help me out. But no one else will get that. Yeah. I'd like to see that on a poster or like a slogan like $5,000 for you and only you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:44 It's the uncle Sam pointing. And he's like, I want you to believe that you are the only one getting five thousand. But like literally only one person and it's you. It's so contradictory too because part of the reason some of these people voted for them. Not all of them. There's a grab bag of horrible reasons why people vote the way they vote. Indeed. But the fiscal response.
Starting point is 00:09:03 The responsibility party, the party that wanted us to doge our government that said we need to save money because we're concerned about the deficit, which I'm not trying to say that that's not important to care about. But this man has made it astronomically worse. Doge still had to pay almost $10 billion to the employees they pretended to fire but couldn't fire. Give me a fucking break. Now you're going to send everybody in the country $5,000 and you think that plays with the people that voted for you for fiscal responsibility. it'll play with some of them. We've got a surplus. Oh, wait, no, trillions and trillions is more in debt.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Yeah, 1.3.5 trillion dollars, which I have been told we can't afford for anything unless it's bombing people. We just got to print that trillion dollar bill. Story came out a few days ago that said that the United States military almost seized a Chinese ship because AI told it that it was transporting components of a nuclear weapons program and the we were ready with a whole operation before
Starting point is 00:10:07 someone thankfully spoke up and said hey I think the AI we were using may have hallucinated this thing that you know could start at least an international incident if not World War III I don't
Starting point is 00:10:22 delicious but they didn't do it but they didn't they didn't listen to the lying machine one point for human beings one point for human beings just barely though oh my gosh I'm so glad our technological overlords are here to make our lives so much better you know I just feel safer than I've ever felt in my life well they're early adopters so they know when to
Starting point is 00:10:51 listen to the AI about what to bomb and when not to you got to train yourself to not listen sometimes. This is just obviously terrifying on so many levels. Thank God. This didn't go the way it could have gone this time. But it just underscores all the mistakes that are just ready to happen. The fatal catastrophic mistakes, life-changing mistakes, war-starting mistakes that are just so possible without having one person there that's paying proper.
Starting point is 00:11:26 attention. We've already used AI to target the girls' school that we bombed. And yet, you know, someone pressed the trigger on that and there was still human. So they didn't catch the mistake. Now we've got news this weekend that the FAA is going to start implementing AI in flight tracking at all the D.C. area airports. What are we talking about, folks? This on the details of all of the AI leaders saying whatever they said last week about how AI might be the end of civilization and you don't have to believe them with their. Well, Duffy's working on season two of his road trip reality show. So he's like, just do the, make it AI.
Starting point is 00:12:09 And I've got my important stuff to do, which is tell my daughter she can't go to Harvard on TV. The doom scenario is not that AI will create a virus and release it everywhere. the doom scenario is AI tells us to blow everything up and we do it. Right. Right. Like it, like, I hope it does not take a- I'll drop a seizing plan for you right away. That sounds great.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Maybe there's a world where the doom scenario is that the AI is gaining consciousness and doing its own thing and it's out of control. I don't know, whatever, man. What I do know is that this is a real, real, real tangible doom scenario that we can actually fucking see. Yeah. And we have the ability to fix it now. But instead, let's just double down.
Starting point is 00:12:58 I understand that there will still be people there overseeing the AI. Like, that's the community note fact check. Fuck all the way off. We've already established how easy it is for the AI to lead humans astray, especially the more we rely on it and the lazier and dumber we get. Yeah. I want to read a paragraph from this New York Times article about the FAA AI thing. The tool called
Starting point is 00:13:22 strategic management of airspace routing and trajectories, or smart, is designed to analyze airline schedules, weather patterns, and other potential air traffic interruptions to quote, predict traffic flows and identify potential conflicts before they occur and recommend alternate flight
Starting point is 00:13:38 routes to avoid compound delays. And I think hopefully everyone takes that word recommend very, very seriously and doesn't do a die hard too where it just tells you that the ground is 50 feet different from where it is and a plane crashes in the fog like i hope that is not what it takes to stop doing this or it is just integrated
Starting point is 00:14:03 at such a preliminary level that everyone's like oh yeah yeah it gets the weather thing right and then we ignore it for the other shit it's astounding it's like we don't you know this is cliche at this point and maybe it's uh so dated but like there It's just every scenario. It's like, so what if Michael Scott has a GPS going and it says turn into a lake and you're shouting? But there's a lake right there. And he just does it because the robot says so. Like that's just like all these scenarios.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Like, but the robot, it told me to. So I had to do what it said. Yeah. It's like we're Amelia Bedeliing like the most life and death scenarios in our. Why was I was go, what's the liability there? Who's the one, the person or entity liable for these catastrophic mistakes? The human operator or the AI? I keep thinking also about just, I don't know the ins and outs of being an air traffic controller.
Starting point is 00:15:06 I do, just kidding. You do? Oh, okay. So you can speak to this. But I imagine having an AI tell you something and knowing that AI is faulty frequently. Does that not add an extra level of work where you're like, now I need to check the AI? A level of work, a level of stress. And a level of stress and confusion.
Starting point is 00:15:24 And already a very high stress profession. Yeah, notoriously less the most high stress job. Wearing pretty thin. I'm not going to do a good job emulating these posts. But I see why you're frustrated. There was already a plane on the tarmac that I, would you like to help me to help you assist with emergency personnel? That's a good point. There is a plane right there.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Yeah. It wasn't just irresponsible. It was fatal. It was fatal. My bad. Thanks, Grock. He's like, hey, where's that other plane? We lost it.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Thanks for asking about white genocide. Things are good on the AI front. Yeah, we got things taken care of. The best and brightest are in charge and have good intentions and aren't just sort of fueled by what makes money and the most money right now in this exact moment. So we are, according to Donald Trump, getting a new AI zon. Only high IQ individuals need apply. It's very funny.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Sorry, Sax. That's the only one that's allowed to apply? Yeah, I don't know. He would have to say that someone else is a high IQ individual. This is like a long post talking about it. And it starts with Russia, Russia, Russia, and all that nonsense. But it's funny because it kind of makes it seem like this is the first time he has come up with the concept of an AI czar, even though there was one. And his name is David Sachs.
Starting point is 00:16:48 And he's out skis. It does. He's no longer all in. It does make it seem like he didn't know that he had an AI. I don't know, you know, not sure what he was doing other than standing next to Trump at events, right? Basically, probably like whispering like, yeah, support AI. He put a lot of money. AI's great.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Let's do the AI. And now his tune is a bit, it's a bit different. It's more of a minor key now. So he's got another. But he, you know, David Sachs as a high IQ individual, i.e. he was a bit of. a PayPal guy and then started Yammer, the thing you definitely remember. Yammer was like Twitter, but for your, it was kind of like Slack before Slack where you would have it in the corner of your desktop and people could post whatever they want, but it
Starting point is 00:17:31 would just go to like your workspace and nobody care or wanted anything to do with it and it disappeared. Anyway, that's him. The brightest of minds, but he won't be the AI czar. No. Who's, who you got? Who do you think? You think somebody will know or we'll have to like learn about a new freak you think it's going to be like oh god now i got to know yeah i guess the smart money is on a new freak it can't be any of the freaks at one of the companies i mean i guess it could it could just be like sam altman and dario amote or Elon musk that's probably not going to be a easy sell for them but it could be um but yeah it probably just being like a new freak right or like Chuck grassley someone yeah a guy who really gets it right just yeah somebody that has this you know that's part of the
Starting point is 00:18:16 sight guys. That's up on the times. And I am not being sarcastic. I think we should talk briefly about all the bullets that are going to be in the arch for some reason. Explain yourself. There's going to be munitions in the arch. I'm going to read, hopefully not all of it, but he's very long-winded on his truth social. Donald Trump says for national security purposes, I have agreed to convert the magnificent triumphal arch planned since the Civil War era many years ago at the reception. of circle adjoining the Arlington Memorial Bridge into a top grade military complex slash triumphal arch to house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large number of drones
Starting point is 00:18:56 plus snipers on both the roof and plaza areas and additionally have and hold large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage. So like the arch will be hollow or under it there will be boxes of bullets, I guess. He's such
Starting point is 00:19:12 he's so weird. He's such a weird like fascist little freak. What does he like you need like this like little monument to like for your for your ego and like you got to build the thing but you got to make it like and then we're going to launch drones out of there we're gonna we're gonna get we're gonna get you with our like what what snipers for what like i listen what we're gonna get you like what do you mean we need dc snipers we need to i think he's just trying to uh change the google ranking for dc sniper so that it's his thing and not you know the DC sniper.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Kids, look it up. Look at it up what you still can. Yeah, while you still can before it becomes, well, there's snipers all around D.C. Because Trump put them in the arch. They're stuck there all night. Yeah, that thing we know about D.C., there's snipers everywhere because of this arch.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Anyway. Snipers in D.C., pools gone, probably. I do think it's scary. I think it's very scary. That's weird. It's very strange. It's very strange. It's a sniper in this munition.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Yeah. are you going to use this against? What's he doing? It's just like so we got this like ballroom with like let's say it's a bunker underneath for the president. Let's say there is one. Yeah. And then the sniper, sniper arch. I have seen the speculation like, oh, he's doing this because he doesn't plan to leave and he's going to embed himself there.
Starting point is 00:20:33 It's like with who? Himself? He's going to willingly get in a bunker and use the sniper right? Yeah, they're filling it with Coca-Cola and candy as we speak. He might convince. Yeah, fill it with the poison. Fill the arch with bullets and fill the ballroom with poison
Starting point is 00:20:48 It's possible I see people talk about it like that This means he's never going to leave I think that there's some amount of protections For himself In having that there There's some idea like well if I need this It's got to be like at least on his mind
Starting point is 00:21:01 It's at least on his mind It's like a contingency plan But ultimately It is about the only thing he cares about His legacy People walking around His name being on people's lips for all of eternity in America.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Him being indelibly linked to Washington, D.C. I promise you, bud, you already are. You don't need to put these lines. He made your mark, man. We will be talking about you for far too long, good sir. But it is, that's all he cares about. It is like, no one else will do it once I'm gone. No one loves me enough to do it.
Starting point is 00:21:36 So I have to do it. Good point. It's a fair point. You're a 29, bro. 29. He's never been more correct. Mr. President. But, you know, that's John F. Kennedy did start the John F. Kennedy Center in
Starting point is 00:21:52 memoriam for himself. That's true. He did build that knowing what was going to happen. He knew he was going to get got, so he had to get ahead of it. No one's ever been attacked like Trump, though, as he repeatedly tells us. No one's ever been attacked as the president. No one's ever tried to do anything to the president. Speaking of legacy and buildings in D.C. and John F. Kennedy, is he going to demolish the Kennedy Center?
Starting point is 00:22:21 Or is that, is that AI? Is that fake? Is that just to rile us up? What's going on there? He's threatened to if he's going to close it and then it needs so many. It's closed for renovations. Closed for renovations, but he's basically threatened to demolish it if he can't put his name on it. Yes. What's to be done about that? Because we don't want to. him to demolish it and we don't want it named after him. So what's, what's to be done there? There will be a lot of lawsuits. It might take him a while to demolish it to get the actual
Starting point is 00:22:52 wrecking ball out there. I think we can run out the clock on it, maybe. I feel like he'll just call a guy. He's got a, he's definitely has a wrecking ball guy, right? He's got a wrecking ball guy that he hasn't paid in eight years, though. So that guy's going to show up. But that $5,000 check is on the way. Oh, yeah, yeah. There was somebody. last week I saw some tweets about somebody being there filming and observing and there was a big
Starting point is 00:23:19 bulldozer or some sort of heavy machinery that this person filmed. Just seems like it's a horrifying omen and harbinger of tomb that is representative of Donald Trump specifically and how if I can't
Starting point is 00:23:35 have America then I'll fucking destroy it. Yeah, I do think like there's something valuable even though it's just like a bunch of older liberals who go to protest when it's like the Kennedy Center getting like I get all that but also it does highlight for a lot of America that doesn't really care that he's not really focused on the things impacting their lives it does show up as a huge distraction they're like why why do you keep persisting on putting your name on a stupid building when again I'm paying $9 for diesel or whatever like and he's still alive yeah You're still alive, man. This isn't how it works. This is what people do. This isn't normal. You weirdo.
Starting point is 00:24:18 I do think we're a little bit going back to a 2016, 2017 resistance lib. Like, this is not normal stuff. And I think as the vibe, I don't know that it's like a bad thing. Like I, you know, I cringe a little bit when I see some resistance lib stuff. But I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that it's just like, oh, this guy is constantly distracted with his vanity bullshit. It's abnormal and weird and off-putting and like you're, like, and tie it to like reality. It, like you're saying, it is not addressing what people care about or anything that affects their lives. So it is helpful.
Starting point is 00:24:55 And, you know, it's like I do get that sense like a lot of times like, this is not normal, that kind of thing. But it's not and it's still not. And it's weird. It's still weird. It's not normal. and not normal doesn't necessarily mean bad, but in this case it does. And I just don't care about his little projects.
Starting point is 00:25:19 And I don't want him to tear down the Kennedy Center and I don't want it to have his name on it. So I don't know. I would be okay with him putting his name on it if he then tears it down anyway. And it just stands there as a monument. Do both. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Rubble with Trump on it. Yeah. That would be a beautiful piece of art. We should, oh yeah, we would want to. keep the rubble. Right? Just tape it off. Everybody, come, stop.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Pay respects to the rubble. Yeah, Representative Lauren Bobert has had some ethics complaints filed against her. She reportedly has had affairs with three of her staffers two women and a man
Starting point is 00:26:00 and at least offered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in hush money. $200,000 dollar payment to one of those staffers to prevent her from filing her own ethics complaint. Is this
Starting point is 00:26:14 just a made up fake news based off of vibes? Is this just like based off of nothing? Is this like... According to her, should we see what... Oh, we can see what she has to say about it. Yeah, I mean, this is based off of like documents. I love this.
Starting point is 00:26:30 I don't know how much we'll watch, but... We can cut it off quickly. The funniest part is the first 15th... It's so good. Hey, journalists. Now that I'm finished with my more important task of the day. I have a few words for you. You all ran a smear and called it news. Some sloppy, desperate, obsessive hack,
Starting point is 00:26:48 stamps under oath on a fake filing, so you'll write penalty of perjury in the headline. Yeah, that's the whole freaking trick. It's a scam, and you fell for it. Oh, that's chatchipt, by the way. It's a scam. This absolutely chatchy p.C. That's a scam, and you fell for it.
Starting point is 00:27:05 And you fell for it. 100% she didn't. yes absolutely anyway this goes on but the most important thing was they called it news it's so good that's funny I've never heard of a George Glass at our skew it's so good it's perfect um no and this is
Starting point is 00:27:22 obviously the sensational part it's getting a lot of attention because two of the people she had affairs with were women but three of them were staffers that's the more important part here but of course the blatant ethical misconduct here. The obvious hypocrisy of her
Starting point is 00:27:42 anti-LGBQ Crusades. There's that clip. I forget even what it was in reference to. What scandal she was referring to, but she was just like, why is everyone so horny in Congress? It's like, God, get over. She's so horny. Tell me about it. You're the horniest. Bobert. You're the horniest.
Starting point is 00:27:59 Like, it's so, you're fucking janking it to Beetlechews, madam. What are you talking about? She was, yes, yeah, she was the one that was escorted out of. Beetlejuice, yes. Beetlejuice. For getting Hansy in the audience? Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:16 I was just, I googled to double checks. I didn't want to. Yeah, no, that was. Fake news. Yeah. But I did have a bad joke when she says, now that I'm done with my pressing business of the day. I'm not going to say it's going to say eating pussy, but maybe not. She'll be able to brush this off probably.
Starting point is 00:28:36 like, you know, if Max Miller is still in Congress, she'll, it doesn't matter anymore. It's not going to be an issue, but it is very telling, and it's so inappropriate. There are other people in the world. Other than your staffers. I know. That's so predatory and weird. Cody, have you considered that she's just working so damn hard? I have not.
Starting point is 00:29:01 She can't go out and find any. And I will not. I am not even going to consider that. I would love if she had said, like, what the important thing was.
