Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi, today we talk about the sudden appearance of the migrant caravan, right in time for the midterms, the Elon Musk documentary, and the new apparently scary breaches from Open AI. Hi, hello, and welcome back to even more news. I'm Katie Stoll. What? Wow. Okay, let me just process that. All right, hi, Katie Stoll. I'm Cody Johnston, I guess. I guess so. You said it, it's true. How are we?
Starting point is 00:00:50 We're great. We're doing great. You know why we're doing great? Because Jonathan is also here. Hi. Ooh, good. Well, we got news. It was a weekend.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Things happened. We've got news. We're going to discuss it. That's what we do here. If you're new here, that's what we do here. You mean the news. news. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Not like, oh, we've got, we've got news. We're, no, it's got like news to talk about. This weekend, the Wright launched their other big midterm pitch, which is that there's a migrant caravan. It's on its way. Dot, dot, dot, dot. Vote GOP. It's, um, it's been so long.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Since another election. Mm-hmm. I mean, it's, yeah, there was, there was, they briefly had one in, 2024. 2018 was the big one. 2018 was a big one. They tried in 2024. They have tried migrant caravans.
Starting point is 00:01:45 I guess it works. Because he won. But, you know. Well, not in 2018. It doesn't matter. Like, yes. Overall, the strategy has worked quite well for them. And the word went out, right?
Starting point is 00:01:59 There was, like, of clips online of people walking, basically. And this got shared far and wide, Laura Ingram, Nancy Mace. Like, all of the people you would think are like, yes, the messaging. has become clear this is a very scary thing. And I would point out the obvious, but I'll let Marjorie Taylor Green do it. She posted, we have not seen a caravan headed to the U.S.
Starting point is 00:02:21 southern border in several years. Why now? Oh yeah, there is an election coming and the GOP needs to scare you into voting because nothing else is working. Thank you, Marge. That's an interesting point that she's made that is something that everybody has known
Starting point is 00:02:37 and talked about for a, a decade. Good for her. If you're to follow their logic, you know, you voted for this president, the only one that can solve this crisis, and if you're to follow their logic, he has solved this crisis.
Starting point is 00:02:56 You know, we've got the most secure borders ever and our ICE Gestapo is going to make quick work of these criminals. Or is it something to be horrifically afraid of. Are they a scary group of migrants or are we are border secure? I mean, I would argue that that's just not the priority for the voters anymore. And if the migrant caravan was bringing cheap gas,
Starting point is 00:03:23 they would say, come on in, open the door. We're very upset at the gas prices. Water's fine. I think the GOP is now underwater on the issue of immigration, which is the first time in a while. the numbers swing wildly given what ICE has been up to for the last 18 months so you know they'll try this may inspire a few people to go vote who wouldn't have otherwise but it's
Starting point is 00:03:51 this is a desperate play it's exactly it's a desperate play I mean even what like some of the people passing this around some of them are just sharing older videos like this is from 2023 this is from 2019 like it's just they just know they're like all right we're doing the caravan and stuff. Okay, I'll go to my caravan folder of clips that I can post every couple of weeks
Starting point is 00:04:14 to get a small check from the bad website. The caravan, this idea of the caravan, it's a group of people traveling together towards the border. No, it's the caravan. But the caravan. But the caravan. But the point being is that presumably there's frequently groups of people traveling towards the border in hopes of immigrating. It's just, of course, this time. year where anybody cares at all. But you're right. This is this is a desperate attempt to get some voters out because the reality is yes, they are deeply underwater, deeply unpopular across the board. Staggering numbers among independence. It's real bad. They're low.
Starting point is 00:04:59 You know, while he might mean there is his his loyal base where that is. is hard to dip too low into Yeah, you're like Marjorie Taylor Greens, your Tucker Carls, you're tucktucks, but the concern being will any of those people even be motivated enough to come up to vote at all? Or we're like they're not going to.
Starting point is 00:05:22 This whole scare tactic requires you to think that if the Democrats take back the House, the first thing they'll put on the House floor is demand border open immediately for all the migrants to come in, as if like Democrats really are the group of people that isn't do like they desperately want to look better on border security and immigration like they're going to be the next time Democrats
Starting point is 00:05:47 get in power they're not opening shit no they're going to like strong on border yeah uh to to act like they are suddenly going to be like okay back to uh the thing that we didn't really do and just had a system and an app which is what everyone said they wanted like so it wasn't whatever whatever we just did what we thought people would want to do, but they all hate it. So, you know, we're going to try to do the thing that they will never admit that Democrats do even if they do.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Right. Is what I'm saying makes sense. Don't do what Democrats don't does. Yeah, don't. Don't do what Democrats don't does, yeah. And DHS is putting out stuff on this. They've got all kinds of, like, I kind of numbed myself to the disgusting propaganda
Starting point is 00:06:32 that the DHS Twitter account, posts. Yesterday they posted in response to like this caravan coming with former Eagles Hall of Fame safety Brian Dawkins like taking guys out which really got under my skin I'm sure it did I'm so sorry Jonathan oh yeah everyone's just like cease and desist at Eagles you know like I don't think that matters I don't think they can do anything
Starting point is 00:07:00 I don't think Brian Dawkins personally can do anything except quote tweet it and say like go to hell or whatever. But, you know, the little weird meme guys they've got inside the White House doing all this stuff, they're going to keep doing it. Well, we'll see how much this moves the needle for them. Maybe we won't see that at all. Maybe we won't see it at all.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Maybe, I mean, like in Marjor, Taylor Green, just being like, no, this is the game they're playing. Just like, don't buy it. Be more compelling if she didn't just quit Congress. And leave, but whatever. Just quit Congress and leave. Thank you for your vote, ma'am. Yeah, thanks for all your help.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I hope that this doesn't play as well as it has in the past. I don't think it will impart because of the sheer cruelty that we've seen here. Even if you identify as somebody that thinks that the border is a significant issue, even if you are sincerely concerned about people coming here the right way, it's undeniable what's been happening in this country for a long time, but especially the last couple of years. And just the crimes against humanity, the sheer terror that we are putting brown immigrants through. And I'm using that as a way to pivot towards a story that broke last week of yet another ice shooting this time in Austin. Jonathan, can you set up the broad strokes of this for us, please?
Starting point is 00:08:34 A man who is originally from Venezuela, Wilbur Rafael Garces Perez, was shot in the back by ice. In Austin is part of a big ice surge in Austin, Texas. And then he was brought to a hospital where they say he needs spinal surgery, but then ICE went in and grabbed him out of the hospital. And he's had to sleep on a cement floor with a bullet in his back. This is so fucking wild. That's it. It's intense, aggressive cruelty, and they can't seem to agree whether they're going to be nicer and stop arresting non-criminals or, like, pulling back. Like, it briefly looked like ICE was not going to arrest, quote-unquote, non-criminals through the midterms. The Daily Wire had that exclusive, and then DHS immediately said that wasn't true.
Starting point is 00:09:29 It's wild, too, because, like, that's, like, the thing that people try to say to just, like the Trump of it all. I was like, but they said they said they were only going to go after criminals. And like at this point, like, no, we actually demand that you were trapped. You saying that we're going to do that. Right. We're going to go after everybody. Mass deportations now was on the sign. Yeah, that's what that's what it meant. That's what it meant. It's also just a wild thing to even admit from the Daily Wire. Rumor has it that now we're going to change the policy so that we're only going after criminals. I'm sorry, wasn't that supposed to be? The thing they said they were going to thing the whole time but you're right and then the dhs dhs coming out and being
Starting point is 00:10:09 like absolutely not we're going after everybody just like the ninth like clip of joe rogan is being like they said they weren't going to do this but now they're just like going after anybody yeah man they're telling you they're telling you now i want to circle back real quickly uh to wilbur uh Perez and this story not that even not that this would be okay in any circumstance Even if you were a violent criminal, I don't think getting shot in the back and then being removed from a hospital where you're awaiting surgery and then put on a concrete floor in an ice facility is the move. Even at that. But that, all that being said, Perez had a valid work permit. This happened during, you know, a traffic stop or a routine operation.
Starting point is 00:11:02 Whatever, they stopped him during an operation and he has a valid work permit. However, he missed one immigration hearing because the notice was sent to a previous address. Now, I understand he missed this meeting, but there has to be some sort of recourse. You have to, just because you send something to a different address does not mean that somebody should be immediately slated for deportation if they're doing everything right. And it certainly doesn't mean that you deserve to be shot in the back. Yeah, it's Brazil stuff, the movie, not the place. It's just like, yeah, well, the thing said this. We send it to the wrong place.
Starting point is 00:11:40 And it's your fault, actually, that we send it the wrong place. And you can go here or get shot. That's the end. That's it. I guess what I'm hopeful for, again, not for some of these deep base people, deep MAGA people, but in general, people keep waking up and seeing before our eyes these horrific crimes against people. And it's disgusting and it's hard to watch.
Starting point is 00:12:11 And I just do not think that this scare tactic of these migrants are coming to the border will work. I don't even if you're inclined to be affected by those kinds of news stories, I think people don't want to deal with this anymore because they're realizing the reality of what has happened. and so it's not going to be as effective as it has in the past is my personal opinion. Right. That's naive. I mean, that's a good hope because it's just so obvious now. Like, I mean, obviously, like, the Trader Brown is out there, like, giving the game away. But, like, it's happened so many times, and it's so obvious.
Starting point is 00:12:46 And it's late September, 26, and it's happening again. It's very obvious of what's going on. And I know, obviously, there are going to be people, like, all the ingrams of the world are going to pretend. and the cat turds of the world are going to either pretend or believe it, I don't know anymore. But most people, I think, see what's being done. Deporting all the people was going to bring the prices down
Starting point is 00:13:11 was like their thing that they were holding onto of like, I'm not just racist. It's because I deserve the cheaper housing or whatever. Because I don't want them to take the welfare that I also don't want other people to have. Nobody gets it, but certainly not them. Should we move on to the dock? Not ours.
Starting point is 00:13:33 The Eumentry? The Eumentry, yeah. The Eumetry. It's Eumetry season, folks. We got a really fun Elizabeth Holmes thing coming out at some point that we all can't wait for. But now we've got the hit, the big guy, the man of this millennium, the man of the planet, the coolest, funniest,
Starting point is 00:13:56 smartest, I'm going to say funniest again because he's so funny. He's so funny. Guy that I just want to know everything about him and how he's good
Starting point is 00:14:06 and helping. And we got it it's coming out. It's the Musk documentary. You're talking about Dilan Musk and his documentary about the documentary about how he's evil.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Yeah, it's not just four hours of him complaining about how chess isn't fun is for losers who aren't actually smart like him. It is like a big overarching, you know, just watch our episodes, but also this might be good. I don't know. Yeah, it's fine too, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:34 The trailer went up a few days ago, and it just isn't getting that many views on YouTube, as you would expect, for comparison, our Friday even more news went up at the same time. And our show is good. I'm glad people watch our show. Thanks for watching, everybody. got like several times more views in the first 24 hours than the Alex Gibney Musk documentary, which just doesn't seem right. You would think a lot of people would be interested in that at first.
Starting point is 00:15:07 So the Hollywood reporter reported that meta and TikTok and YouTube had all turned down paid ads for the documentary saying at first that it was political content. like TikTok and Meta have a policy against campaign ads. You know, Meta is like very much pretending that they don't do anything anymore like that over the last six years. So Meta and YouTube backed off and said they would take ads for it, but it does still look like the videos not in the algorithm on YouTube. It still looks like it's getting throttled. Yeah, it's got 95,000 views right now.
Starting point is 00:15:48 It's been up for days. that's that's quite low for what this is actually and the new algorithm but uh it's interesting too because like part of me like like obviously there's something going on here and not obviously who knows i don't know it's very very low um and knowing that they weren't going to run the ads generally um for political reasons suspect whatever but also the trailer itself it's pretty boring uh pretty it seems a super cut of all the Musk classics kind of like put like anyone could have made this trailer with just like footage that's available online. I'm sure it's very good and there's extra stuff in there and it's going to be compelling and stuff. But like you watch it and go, yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Yeah. Yeah, that guy's a piece of shit. There he is doing the salute again. There he is. But that's not why the views are low. It's not because people aren't interested in the topic. You know that Elon Musk is freaking out. I mean, he's already. threatened to sue Alex Gibney, the director of the documentary. Who's the studio? Universal. They were apparently reportedly thinking about canning it, giving the rights back to Alex Gibney.
Starting point is 00:17:04 And we'll see if that actually comes to fruition, but they've maybe changed their mind again based on public outcry. The point is, a studio that wants to make money has a hit. on their hands, something that has gotten universal acclaim from the people that have seen it, is considering shelving it, giving the rights back because they don't want to touch it. This is coming at the backdrop where this administration are people associated with this administration or having a heyday, suing, you know, news organizations, different studios, trying to threaten and pressure these executives into doing what they want.
Starting point is 00:17:48 And there's been a lot of capitulation. And so it's actually kind of terrifying to think about. And amidst conversation about Musk, like, giving a bunch of money to Paramount and becoming involved more intricately and monetarily, financially, with that industry generally. It is interesting. No one wants to touch it. It seems like a lot of the tech people aren't quite sure whether to jump ship yet, right?
Starting point is 00:18:18 They all like, we're like, oh, everyone's MAG& now. We're all on board with Trump. We're going to give him whatever he wants. And now it doesn't seem like that is the, well, we permanently own the culture the way these people thought it was going to be 18 months ago. But now they're like, well, like, you know, we still don't want the trillionaire mad at us. He's got a lot of money. And Universal was only going to distribute the film overseas.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Bleaker Street was never going to not do it here. So it's really like it was still going to get distribution in the United States. States and they're like well maybe we shouldn't distribute it in France because it'll make musk mad the french will love it they'll heat it up um but like they're they're still kind of calibrating mark Zuckerberg was uh posting about AI stuff but he started calling it super intelligence because that's what trump did he wants to call it now what a pathetic loser right if you want to see like how far the wind has gone he's the the last toadie you would expect to fall because he just wants people to Like him a little bit.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Just enough. Just enough to keep him going. That's so pathetic that he's starting to do that. We believe super intelligence will create significant new opportunities for all people in businesses, blah, blah, blah. And he's just like one word, super intelligence. Didn't even say like, good job, sir, changing the name of the thing. Man. Embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:19:40 That's so embarrassing. Yeah, it sucks. He sucks. We're not doing that. We're not calling it super intelligence. We're trying to reverse artificial. We're trying to just call it the LL. We'd love to have LLM stick or H.LM would be a great.
Starting point is 00:19:54 Yeah, I don't know. I'm not the right person. I'm not doing a poll online after which hereby, that's what it'll be called. We don't get to choose. Now we'll call it this, unfortunately. No, but regardless of the administration, we live in a world where these people that have amassed all the money and all the power and are trying desperately. to control narratives and culture. It goes beyond our government,
Starting point is 00:20:25 but yes, it's not good that we are at a point in time where people with means can pay off studio executives to bury a documentary to, you know, curtailed journalism, et cetera. I mean, along with this, also, Amazon was apparently going to be released, seeing a Sam Altman and now they shelved that because they now are in business with Sam
Starting point is 00:20:53 Altman and Open AI and whatever. I mean, it's right there. It's not a conspiracy. It's right there. I do think, like, I'm sure there will be very interesting stuff in this movie, but after it first screened, a lot of the reactions are like his ex-Ashley St. Clair drops these bombshells in the movie, and it's all the stuff that we talked about like six months ago. Did. She's done interviews publicly about for ever since, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:21 I was a little confused. I'm like, is there something more? Does she have, like, documentation about what the lasers did? Well, no, but they show the text messages apparently. Confirmation of seeing the text messages. NPR has seen those text messages, they said. So I don't know if I assume they're in the movie. Whether he was just joking or not, I guess is his argument. But. Yeah. I, I, I. They get the same sense with the documentary where I'm watching, but what do I learn? What do we do?
Starting point is 00:21:51 What do we? Who do we? I would counterpoint that and say like, yes, for us that have paid particular attention to Elon Musk for quite some time, this doesn't seem new, but having it all put into one place and accessible to the average citizens that somehow have yet to subscribe, like and subscribe, please. I understand what you're saying, though. Like, yes, there's value in it, obviously.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Definitely value in it. It just might not be breaking news for us. I want him to be, like, embarrassed more than he already has been. And I want, I want... He will be. I want the movie to be... I want the movie to be devastating and for him to go to prison. I want there to be like a, oh, you won't believe what Rudy Giuliani does at the end of this Borat movie type stuff.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Yes, exactly. Which was a little... There might be something. once we got to it. But, you know. It was underwhelming because it didn't change anything. Like, Rudy Giuliani. It was like, oh, what are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:22:53 What are we going to do? What do we do about it? But if more people just scrolling that are not, you know, just at home on Netflix or whatever scrolling through and they see this documentary and they put it on and they're like, the fuck to de-text her. And for the first time, I will appreciate it. I would love that. I would love more people to, yes, 100%, 100%, 100%.
Starting point is 00:23:14 100%. But for my entertainment and satisfaction, I want more. If you're on YouTube right now, likely, search Musk Gibney documentary or just Musk Doc. It'll come up. It's there. But I think you might be surprised that it's not in your sidebar. 92.9,000 views. Or maybe everyone's watching it and they're just throttling the number the other way. Right? I don't know. Artless, this isn't it. So Open AI now says there have been more breaches than it previously knew about or previously disclosed where it hacked into federal agencies here and government agencies in Australia.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Here's a quote, when attempting to get information from the Census Bureau, for instance, AI agents used tools reserved for software developers to access it, the company said. And now they say they are pausing developers. on these models until they can figure out how to put in better guardrails. At first we get the trickle of this of being like, oh, I guess there's been some more breaches, more attempts at hacking, Australia, the different government bureaus, yes, the Census Bureau, all of that. But it turns out it's actually like tens of thousands of incidents. I don't know where I stand right now, folks, about all of these stories.
Starting point is 00:24:42 I still believe that there's a lot of fear-mongering happening, but I also do think that it is alarming that there's so much potential for these AI agents to go off script. And I'm not suggesting that they're sentient. I understand that a lot of these breaches have happened whilst in the midst of testing. So they are asking, trying to see if the AI will be able to break containment, will be able to break the safety guardrails they put up. But it is.
Starting point is 00:25:14 It is. And it's breaking the safety guard rails in ways that they aren't expecting. And part of that is good. This is why you should test things so that you find the weaknesses. And so it's hard to wrap your mind around. Like are they raising the flag because this is sincerely out of control? I mean, I think that you can see the potential. It can be both.
Starting point is 00:25:37 It can be a little bit of both. Thank you. This is what I, yeah. And I think it's important. Because we're really quick to say, I think the narrative online of people are trying to unpack all of this. And with the understanding that we are getting information from people that are deeply invested in the success of these agents, this whole of the SI. So both things are true that we're getting information for them and we shouldn't just blindly trust, but also have an awareness that, yeah, it seems. concerning that this is out of control and not only that but what about hackers or
Starting point is 00:26:16 people being able to weaponize vulnerabilities and you know get in there and make him do things that nobody wants that is something to grapple with I have a couple points I want to make I think the way it's framed in the media gives a level of agency to it that it doesn't have so it's not going rogue, it just hasn't been told not to do the thing it did in the simplest possible terms. But it's a lot less sexy as an industry to say, the software took a pathway we didn't anticipate it taking in its attempts to carry out the instructions we gave it. And so, but you're right, it's still worrisome because it's hard to program it not to do that
Starting point is 00:27:07 stuff because that's the entire point, right? It's this heightened thing. It comes up. It's out of the box thinking. It comes up with ways to do things that we don't anticipate. It's the same way that it's hard to tell it not to write the way it does because that's what it's been trained on is this generic average of the way people write. And so when you say, hey, here's this sandbox with internet access.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Do this thing. Do this thing. Oh, it took a pathway. We didn't anticipate it taking and got into the Department of Education's. database. Well, yeah, it's trained on all of the hacking tactics, which people can inform us, like if I'm getting the intricacies of it wrong, I don't entirely understand. I don't hack. And so it's tough to come up with the guardrails if you don't know where to build the fence, if that makes sense. Yeah, and I imagine that always changing. I imagine, like, I don't know
Starting point is 00:28:04 when the stress tests end because that's something that's constantly evolving and especially as someone comes up with something malicious or attempts to hack it in this way and control it from this capacity. I am speaking so generic because I don't understand it in the slightest how the mechanics of how that works. But I think it is well worth it
Starting point is 00:28:24 to be aware of the potential ramifications of this and to understand that this is happening at a far greater pace than, I guess, I personally previously was acknowledging or giving grace to. At first month of this, I was like, ah, this feels like a lot of overblown scare tactics. And I'm just admitting for everybody that I think that it's even bigger than in my brain what has been happening. And it does make me nervous.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Yeah. There's the potential that data it gets into malicious actors' hands. The maliciousness has to kind of be on the human side at this point or carelessness, I guess. I'm not a trade of the sentence. but zero gar right there's no there's no there's no sense it's not the entity from mission impossible the villain from the last two mission impossible movies that we all love uh it it's it's it's like it's it's kind of like always if you're doing something with computer because everything's computer and you're like oh i guess i didn't tell it not to do this it's like if i tell my son hey throw this
Starting point is 00:29:30 away and then he throws it and i'm like oh right i didn't think about how you think about things Make sure to get this in the trash can without making a mess and make sure, yeah, yeah. Which I know is oversimplifying it for the people, the computer people out there. I understand that. But it's like it does make me think that if you stop telling it to do that thing, it will stop. And they are just, they like, well, we can do a slowdown, but you could just, you could unplug it. You just can't because you're the trillion dollar company. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Right, so you can just unplug it. Oh, do you unplug the endless weird money machine? You can put up a bunch of guardrails, but I could see that continuing to be a problem. Like, oh, we never anticipated this. And it's going to go quote unquote rogue. Again, not sentient, but it's going to do something unexpected that has far-reaching ramifications unintentionally. And then we learn from that at that point.
Starting point is 00:30:29 And that is the world that I think we're living in of uncertainty. Especially, I want to just at least briefly reference a couple other AI-related stories that were happening over the weekend in conjunction with this. One is the conversation about like the AI Bill of Rights or AI ethics. And like, thinking about AI. And I don't have a lot of stuff to say right now. I'm just mentioning this philosophical. question of what power we're giving it and what rights we're giving the AI, you know, people framing of like, do we, does this evolve to the point where it's essentially slavery?
Starting point is 00:31:10 Like, no, we've created a technology to do work for humans. And if you're, it's like people want to give it the sentience. People want to give it. They're really jumping to it. They really want to. And in like, in conjunction with all of this, then I go back to the fear mongering conversation of you're like, you're giving way too much, way too soon to this thing. I know the, with AP Style Book, I think, released like some guidelines on like how to talk about AI and how to describe it and was pointing out like, try not to anthropomorphize it or like personify it and don't you like, oh, he's saying this. Like just try not to talk like it's a human fucking being. And everyone got so mad and all these tech guys and like the of the world were like, oh, this is just like woke stuff. This is like woke one language policing.
Starting point is 00:31:58 And it's like, well, we're allowed to, like, talk about how we talk about stuff. And, you know, in this, over the same weekend, there was this, um, piece about that fucking, the fake, the AI, I don't even know how to talk about it. The AI actress, Tilly whatever. Yeah. Tilly normal. Yeah. It's not real. And, like, all these articles and headlines talking about like, oh, she's saying, she says she wants to work with this person.
Starting point is 00:32:23 No, she doesn't. It's fake. Stop talking about it like this. It is told to pretend that she's a human actress. Right. You don't have to participate in it. You don't need to play pretend along with it. And that's what it's talking about.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Like it's still, it's a technology. It's this. Don't talk about it like it's a person. That will lead to problems potentially with how people view it and how people interact with it. And we already see how they talk to the chatbots and fall in love and stuff. It's important to treat it like what it is until it's sentient. And then we can talk about the Bill of Rights and stuff. But, you know, right now it's still just a really complicated spreadsheet,
Starting point is 00:33:11 I think. They care a lot about human life. They care a lot about the ramifications of their actions on like innocence around the world, right? So I think we would take them at their word that they care about the well-being of sentient. Fair. You know what? You're right. I do. I do trust. than believe them, you're right. I care more about our new gods we're ushering in. Meanwhile, still not profitable. Probably won't. No, and I do think, like, this is a good timing for them to push off the IPOs.
Starting point is 00:33:43 It really seems like they don't want to do the things that you have to do when you IPO, which is, like, open up your financials. I mean, we all know they're just passing money back and forth, like Microsoft gives OpenAI alone to buy the chips from Invidiat, right? They said they made money if you don't include expenses. Yeah, we were super profitable if you don't count any of the things that a company has to spend money on, and we can count it that way for some reason. Ridiculous? No, it's scary.
Starting point is 00:34:10 It's leveraged so high. There was that graph of more has been spent as a percentage of GDP on AI than was spent on the highways or railroads or major nationwide infrastructure projects. Well, meanwhile, I saw some ad for some road air taxi for L.A., slated for the L.A. Olympics, instead of trains or public transportation, hop in an air taxi. That sounds bad. Hell yeah. That's waiting on FAA regulation. One more AI story at least wanted to mention that I saw percolating a lot over the weekend is that AI is already driving up health care costs. It is directly impacting. Our lives negatively. Hospitals are using AI to find billable things. And insurance agencies are using AI to deny claims. And the effect is that costs have skyrocketed for consumers without healthcare going up.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Without making people any healthier or doing anything meaningful, we are spending more because AI is prioritizing the problem. profits of these corporations. And it's the thing, it's the AI doing it, right? It's the AI. And the AI is a person, right? With personhood. And this is like the problem with talking about it.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Like, it has this like, sentient agency. Like, well, it's doing it. Like, it's a way to, like, get rid of any sort of like sense of blame or autonomy for the human beings who are using this. You don't have to,
Starting point is 00:35:50 you don't have to use AI to deny people. claims and make things worse. You are, but it's making the decisions. You're blameless, actually. Blame Brad or whatever you're calling your particular agent, you know? Blue Cross says
Starting point is 00:36:08 that AI tools that providers are using are creating all of these new billable costs for them, about a billion dollars worth. So hospitals, and of course, our system incentivizes this,
Starting point is 00:36:23 So I'm not telling you go hate the hospital or hate your doctor, but the hospitals are like, hey, look at all of the stuff over the last 24 hours and find other things that we can bill the people in the pit for. And then, of course, you told it to do that. So it finds it. And so then they send that on to the insurer. And the insurer's like, well, we're going to use our AI to be like, that's bullshit. You can't add a second thing. No one ever adds that second thing as this thing. And so it's costing us a bunch more, whether they're accepted.
Starting point is 00:36:53 or not, and then you just have to pay more when you get shot in the back by an ice agent. But it's the super intelligence doing it. It's fine. It's super. It's good. Can't argue with the SI. Using AI to more efficiently do all the evil shit that we do is like, just like, well,
Starting point is 00:37:16 this industry, you know how like it's like slowly deteriorated and gotten worse over time and, you know, it's exploitative and is extracting as much well from people as possible. What if we, like, had a robot do it instead and do that more efficiently? Yeah, it's never the good stuff. I mean, supposedly it is at some point the good stuff. Supposedly, it's the good stuff too. But forward-facing, like right out of the gate, the stuff sucks, all of it.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Every forward-facing thing they're trying to sell sucks. And if you could put in a guardrail that says, hey, you're not allowed to, to do anything that could cause harm to a human. Then you'd have to define harm. You'd have to define harms. Right. It's very difficult, but you would like the super smart thing that doesn't want to hurt people to ideally say, sorry, we're not going to bill someone else extra because you left a scalpel
Starting point is 00:38:13 in their foot. That's on you. We can't find a way to make someone pay someone else more for that. Also, you're a ghoul. I want the AI to call them ghouls. Right. Like say like, I could do that. No.
Starting point is 00:38:27 Yeah. But then you're like, well, we want the AIs to say no when we tell them to do something. Like that's another. Yeah, it's all just telling someone to say things. Right. The things it says, it's like, I didn't think about that way to hurt people more. Thank you thing that came up with that idea. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:38:45 We're going to write that down. We'll unplug you, but we will write down how you do that. Yeah. All right, folks. We got to wrap things up today. we got to get this out. I need to do some housekeeping here and mention that tomorrow night or tonight.

And we'll add context about the industry and maybe some of the people who made the movie, maybe some stuff about the production of the movie because that didn't go well. We'll see.
