Hello and welcome to Spiritually Speaking with me, Sam. We haven't got Jess this week,
you have just got me because she is off on a retreat this week and she said to me, look,
just do the podcast on your own, I'm sure you'll, well, she didn't say I'm sure you'll
be fine, she was like, you will be amazing, it'll be absolutely fine. But of course, I
have got in my own head about this and just been procrastinating and overthinking
and thinking that I wouldn't be able to deliver some kind of good content on my own um so yes
I also get the same self-doubt that everyone else gets um but here I am I'm giving it a go
let's see if this actually makes it to Friday's episode um so I wanted to check back in and I'd give you, I'll give you
all like a little bit of a catch up kind of on what's been going on with me. And then we will
delve into the episode. So currently it is Thursday, the 3rd of October that I'm recording
this. So literally the day before it goes out
and the salon is due to be open tomorrow um which is so exciting I'm really really just happy to
have it ready to be very honest with you um I know that it's not going to be 100% ready in the way
that I would want it to be like the sign isn't going to be done for example little things like that um but you know what I'm okay with that I feel like I've just had to learn to
just roll with the punches and kind of go with the flow a little bit more um I'll be honest doing
this renovation now obviously as you'll all, like from the previous episodes, was something that was
just never, ever planned. So I feel like it's kind of come out of nowhere in a sense of
having to learn to balance everything. And one of the big questions I actually got asked
in terms of what to speak about today, when I put a little poll on my Instagram story was how
do you do it all how do you balance everything and how do you do everything and I think that
what I was just talking about really leads into today's topic that firstly you can do it all
but it doesn't mean that you're going to do everything well. And that's why I always say, I kind of divide up my time, I would always say in like percentages. So right now work is probably getting
a good 70% of my time. And then my 70, yeah, probably I'd say about 70, 60, 70% of my time. And then my girls get like, you know, 20%.
And me, my husband, my house, everything else,
my family, my friends are getting that 10% divided
across all of those areas.
So yeah, you can do it all at once,
but it doesn't mean that you're gonna be 100%
with everything at once. And I think that that is something that is really important to remember and realize that, you know, we can look at people from an outside lens and think that they've got all bases covered at all times. And, oh, my God, how do they do it? I don't know how they do it but and that's what I think a lot of people do do with me even though
I try and keep it as keep it as real as possible um on the flip side but people do idolize the way
that you can manage to handle things um but yeah I'm definitely still human and don't give 100%
at all times to everything because I think that's physically impossible um so yeah one of the things
that um I would love to touch on is kind of how I get through these times when it is really crazy
because I was speaking only just yesterday to a friend who was saying a list and all these
different things in her life that are feeling really hectic and intense at the moment and how she was feeling really overwhelmed. And I said, like,
you know, take a second, realize everything that it is that you've got going on and make a list if
need be, or just think about it. This is what I would do personally. And start with what's most
urgent and work your way down because not everything is 100% urgency at
all times you know like you don't have to tackle everything all at once realize what's most
important and start there and then also I think for me for example right now my most important
thing is getting the salon ready but then I have to split that up right
okay what bits about that are really urgent and what isn't like what can wait the sign outside
can wait do you know what I mean like that is not um it's it's urgent it needs doing but it's not
going to stop me from opening the doors if the electric wasn't working that is going to stop me
from opening the doors do you see
what I mean so it's kind of figuring out what is really important and what can actually wait and
as Andy loves to say to me all the time Rome wasn't built in a day so I think just allowing
yourself to take a bit more time where you need to or not be able to get everything done all at once is okay
um as I'm definitely learning um so yeah one thing for me that I made a little note of today
when I was thinking about how I get stuff done um I really think the self-help is something that has been a huge part of my career of my life
um of my progression as a person um and within business taking that then into business as well
um self-help for me is huge it means that I can better myself it means I can learn about myself it means
I can grow as a person and I can be kinder to others or I can give more when I know how and
that can be reading books it can be going to therapy it. It's going to look different for everyone who is listening to this.
But for me, it really started with reading a lot of books,
of self-help books.
A couple just off the top of my head that I have loved
that were really important to me were ones like Atomic Habits,
Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
What's the other one called? Denise Duffielduffield Thomas Lucky Bitch that was a really good one um Amanda Francis she's got a good one there's there's so many good self-help
books oh Miracle Mornings that one is incredible really really recommend that anyway I could be
here all day talking about books we should do a separate one just about books um but yeah so for me it really started with self-help books so I really got interested in reading all these different books
and I would take a little nugget from each book that I'd read and apply that to my daily life
so for example for me to make myself feel good I always wake up before the girls wake up. And if I have had a good night's sleep and they've
slept all the way through, I will try and wake up for like half five, for example. If they haven't
had a good night's sleep and I'm really tired or, you know, I'm just tired in general, I'll wake up
at half six, the girls get up at seven. I will just give myself that little bit of time before they wake up to do something that makes me
feel good and that is self-help self-help can even be having a bath it can be putting your phone on
flight mode for an hour it can be going for a walk it can be anything that just makes you feel good
is going to help yourself and it's going to help your future self as well that's another thing that I think sometimes I try and remind myself to do is I always try and think like is my future self
going to be happy for this you know so say for example I'm eating a really healthy meal I know
that my future self is going to thank me for eating that really healthy meal or for doing that
bit of exercise or for ticking off my to-do list you know um getting that dentist
appointment done that I've been meaning to do for months you know um things like that so self-help
I really think is an amazing place to start if you're struggling with how to tackle your massive
to-do list sorry or all these really overwhelming things in your life start what from within
and look at yourself and look where maybe you need that little bit of help it could be that maybe you
procrastinate a lot on things it could be that you have a tendency to think quite negatively
um so take time and learn about yourself learn about what those things are and start to put little factors in place that is going
to change that for you. Maybe it's not going on your phone as much, maybe it's spending less time
with a toxic friend or family member even, you know, like really think about what it is that's
going to help you. Another thing that I would say that really helps me
conquer as much as I can through a day is 100% the support around me I would not be where I am today without every single person that I've got around me having a network that supports you and just helps you thrive is honestly so important. And you can look for that
in so many different ways. Like it can be a family member, it can be a partner, it can be a friend,
it can be a colleague. There are so many different ways in how you can find that support around you. And if you're thinking like, I don't have those
people around me, you can find them. Like you really can find them. They definitely exist.
And you only need one person, like you don't need loads, but I am very lucky that I do have a lot.
And that is probably why I get a lot done because I have so much support around me.
You know, I've got an amazing husband that helps me with the kids.
I've got an amazing nanny that helps me with the kids.
I've got a amazing team that I've built in the salon that helps the business run smoothly.
Like I've created this team constantly in all areas of my life to be able to then be happy and be successful in all of those areas. And that is something that's
really, really important is to just have a look at what and who you've got around you and really
think, are they helping that or are they not? Are they hindering it? That's a good way to say it.
Are they helping or are they hindering? So yeah, that's what I would really recommend doing as well. And then for me, my third thing would be mindset. Mindset is so
important. Again, all of these self-help books can really help with this. In fact, I should have
mentioned the top one. The first one I ever read was The Secret, which a lot of people who are
listening to this have probably already read. But you know, maybe you need to go back and read it. I don't know. But that for me was really the pivot and the start of this self-help journey. And reading that
book is so incredible because it explains to you about your mindset and how to just practice
gratitude every day. We all have something that we can be grateful for every day. Even in the depths of a really, really shit situation,
there is something that you can be grateful for.
I promise you that there is.
And finding those things every day
that you can be grateful for
will literally change your outlook on a day completely.
I will always try.
And if I don't have time to sit down and write it, I will think in the morning what it is I'm grateful for. I'll wake my girls up and I'll think, God, I'm so grateful that they're healthy and that they're happy this morning. I'm so grateful that they slept through the night. I'll go to bed and I will think about three things I'm so grateful for that happened that day. Your mindset and just shifting your thoughts to being a positive thought rather
than a negative is so key to being able to conquer more things and get more things done because
you're living on a higher vibe, a higher frequency and generally just being a lot happier. And it
seems something so simple, but you really do have to train your mind to go that way.
And it might mean that, say, for example, I'll get stuck in horrendous traffic and I might be
so stressed because I'm thinking I need to get there in time. Like, I don't know why this is
happening to me. You know, loads of things are going wrong today. Take a second, stop, think
about it. Maybe that traffic has just helped you not get in a car
accident. Maybe that traffic has actually got you to where you need to be for the time that actually
you should have been there for because of something else. I don't know. I'm just trying to give you
a good example of how the butterfly effect can work and how actually everything is meant to
happen the way that it's meant to happen. And turning your thoughts into
a positive is just such an incredible way to live your life. And I don't know why more people don't
do it. I'm very aware that people don't have as great situations and it can be really hard to
think positively. But again, we all have something to be grateful for and the more that you practice that gratitude the more
you'll receive it so yeah that's something that I'm like so so so strong on um and then my fourth
by the way I've got five of these things that I've written down um my fourth thing to getting
shit done is what am I driven by that's something that I always think that I would
ask myself, what is it I'm driven by? Because this will change as well a lot. Like, you know,
I used to be very driven by money, which is fine. Whereas now maybe I'm driven more about my free
time. That is my thing that makes me really motivated. That's what I want in my life is to have more flexibility and free time.
So think about what it is that you're driven by.
There's no wrong answer to this.
It might be that you're more driven
by wanting to go on more holidays in a year
or you're more driven by making your way up
in your career to get in a promotion.
Think about what it is that drives you and makes you happy and makes you
excited and gives you that energy and focus on that, on becoming that, on
just altering your energy to that. Maybe I'm not describing this really well, I don't know. For example, when I was very driven by money, I would work out how
much it was that I wanted to make and I would divide that by how many days I was working,
right, okay, how much I have to earn each day to be able to get to this salary. Or for example,
now I am more driven by my free time with my family, with my girls. So I will think about, right,
well, how does my ideal day look? And what is it that I have to put in place for that to be able
to happen? So right now I'm sacrificing that free time with them and the flexibility to be able for
long-term gain to get that time back. So I'm putting in a lot of work right now because I know that in the future,
I'm going to be able to step back more than I've ever stepped back before from my business
because it's going to run at an even bigger rate than what it was running before,
which will mean that I have even more flexibility and freedom eventually,
and especially financial freedom as well. And also, I'm obviously very driven by my
career. Like I am extremely career motivated. And I love challenging myself. I love learning.
So that's also something that has pushed me to want to do this. So really find what it is that
drives you. What is it that makes you excited and then that will really help
you to find your why and that will then lead to being able to succeed more in those areas in your
life um and then one of my biggest things that I try to do each day is find balance in a day
so everybody says how do you balance it all you You know, how are you doing it all?
Like you don't, but each day you just try and find a little bit of balance in that day.
So it might mean that I've worked till one day this week, I was working till at least eight
o'clock at night and I came home and I knew that I was going to be working till that time. So in
the morning, I spent more
time with the girls and getting as much time with them as I could in the morning because I knew that
I was going to be working non-stop till late and I wouldn't see them go to bed. So then when I got
home, it was a case of, right, get off your phone a bit, spend some time with Andy and relax before then going to bed. So in that day, I could have seen that day as,
oh my God, I'm going to be working from 11 till nine. And I really need to make sure that I just
sleep as much as possible because I'm going to be so tired. But that actually wouldn't have brought
me happiness. What does bring me happiness is finding time to spend with
my family so I got up that bit earlier I did that I did a little workout before then to again make
me feel good because I really do believe that that also massively impacts my mental health
um spent the time with the girls did the long shift the really really hard day at work where
I felt like I was going to absolutely crumble and then came home reset spent that time with Andy and yeah you're just finding a little
bit of balance not every day is going to look like that but that's okay not every day is going
to go my way that's also okay I'm not going to find balance in every day but I will always try
and strive for a little bit of it so I think
that that's something that's really important to just think about and really try and work with each
day um so yeah they're kind of really my top tips I would say in being able to do it all in inverted
commas um because like I say I don't think anybody necessarily is 100% at everything at all times.
I think that's pretty impossible.
But I think giving ourselves that little bit of leeway
and not putting so much pressure on ourselves to be 100% at all times is so important.
That's something that I've really learned recently, massively.
And yeah, I feel like I haven't got much else really to say on today's episode.
My other little updates is just like I say, that the salon is almost done. And by the time this goes out that evening, I will be celebrating with some close friends and family on the opening of the salon and then I'm just going to take it slow in terms of
the full opening and with all the new services etc and just try not to put too much pressure on
myself um so let's see let's see let's go with the flow and yeah as Jess would say feel the feels
um Jess if you are listening back, then thanks for listening.
I hope that everybody has enjoyed
