What is up, folks?
Welcome to episode 568, smack dab in the middle of the Stanley Cup finals.
We are back, Spitting Chicklets, and we are here as you two are dancing because you two are happy, even though I can't stand either one of you.
We are here because of Pink Whitney.
We are here because of Pink Whitney.
They were with us down Florida.
They'll be with us in Edmonton for Game 7.
Keith's kissing that bottle like I hope McJesus is kissing the cup.
Take your shot with Pink Whitney.
Local bars, local liquor stores.
Doesn't matter where you need to go to get it.
Get the big bottle, get the little bottle, get the little nip.
Have a time. Summer is here. Enjoy Pink Whitney.
What is going on, folks? Holy shit, do we have a lot to catch up on.
Great time down in Florida.
Biz, you're on the grind. You're back and forth, back and forth, flying all over the continent for this series.
Yans, you've been in Florida soon, you'll be in Nantucket,
you're rich, you're wealthy, I'm very jealous of you,
and I'll tell you right now, we're not dead yet,
oil nation, we're not dead.
We're close to dead, we're close to dead,
but we're not dead yet, we have life.
Guys, what's going on?
Biz, talk to me, I need to hear your thoughts right now.
I didn't mean to say I hate you.
I think we need to hear from Florida Panthers correspondent Keith Yandle because that was an
absolute shit kicking in game five that they delivered to the they are so fucking good
they're a wagon and like again I guess I'll start with this Brad Marshawn
six goals in five games in these Stanley Cup finals. He's now chasing Sam Bennett for the cons.
Might there compete with each other because they ain't going to be someone from
Edmonton at this point. What is going on with this guy?
You I don't know.
Honestly, the guy's been stuck in that shitbag town, Boston,
for the last 20 years now.
I know I was kidding, but he comes down here, he gets a nice,
you know, the weather's out.
It's beautiful out every single day.
He's driving his golf cart.
And the guy probably feels like he's 15, 20 years old.
He's ready to go.
I bet he feels like he's just starting his career right now.
This is the first year of his career.
And I think you guys are nuts if you don't think he's going to reset.
Resign down here.
He's staying here. I agree
I think you started him ever leave
I know they should both they're both gonna have a statue after this series like the way that they are playing
It's unbelievable Brad Marshawn jump out of a cannon on that first goal
Like splitting D. Are they not face off ready? I know Murl's invented face off ready, wants guys ready,
but what are they doing, Witty?
Well, Murlson.
Pod Colson had to take just a step in front of him.
Like, that is being, now I tweeted they want it more.
Like, people are like, you're an idiot.
Like, what do you mean want it more?
I'm like, I don't know, buddy, I'm watching the game.
One team's ready to go, one team is not.
To me, that's wanting it a little bit more.
That's being prepared to play.
The Oilers played like shit.
Like, actually it's shocking the way that they played.
I mean, I think they went 15 minutes without a shot
in the first period.
I think they had 12 shots through two periods at home.
Maybe 11.
That arena, and don't say that the arena wasn't buzzing.
We talked to Toronto Yacht Club.
That arena was fucking humming.
The place was completely insane.
Game five at home to take a stranglehold on the series and you show up like that?
And this is every game to start.
Every single game of this series, they can't start.
Echol mentioned, if we knew what it was,
we'd figure it out.
It's like, well, Matthias Ekholm,
who's been a rock since he got here,
I think maybe his worst game as an Euler,
I've ever seen him play.
Yeah, that was a tough one.
So going back to what I'm beginning with is,
like, the Oilers played like trash,
but I'm not gonna say, like, that,
the Panthers also were just at another level. Like, I'm not gonna say they lost because they played like trash, but I'm not gonna say like that. The Panthers also were just at another level.
I'm not gonna say they lost
because they played like trash.
I think the Panthers just were that good.
They were that much better, that much more ready to play.
And I'm looking at this team, it's just like, oh my God.
We've led guys 30 minutes of the series.
I mean, in fact, 3-2 seems like a two, you can't keep chasing this team boys.
And you talked about the depth with like, can we bring up the stats?
I think that their top three lines, everybody's clear this.
Everybody's got fucking 20, 18, 16.
Like this is a fucking joke as far as depth.
Like this isn't something that Edmonton has.
So you can't afford to start games
You know 15 minutes in like the pod
Look at the line
It's sorry Biz. No the pod calls and thing like face off ready, buddy
Listen, there's a lot of things I wasn't good at but God there's no fucking way Brad Marshawn has beaten me to that puck
When he when when my centerman snapping it back to the defensive side, Murls did mention like nurse on the
left side, I believe should have pounce quicker, but I think that's all on the
winger on the inside. All you need to do is just get in his lane and then poke
that back to your defenseman. And then you mentioned echo Mike. I mean, how
about the bait by Marsha? He looks like he's going to go outside there and you
right to the middle splits the D
and then that shot under pressure on Pickard. Now, I'm gonna throw it over to you. I have loved a lot
of things that Knobloch has done throughout these last two runs. I think he's pushed a lot of the
right buttons. I completely agreed with starting Pickard in that he'd earn that spot, but not playing Klingberg, I thought was a mistake.
You play Troy Stetcher under five minutes
the game before, like Klingberg's the type of guy
where you could play 20 minutes
and the more ice time you give him,
the better he's gonna play.
And they need guys advancing the puck right now
because they did a horrible job of it.
I get that Kaepernick only had four shifts
in the second and third period of game four. He made that play over to Wallman in game four. He had one shift
in the third period. The fact that they took him out of lineup is an absolute joke. Jeff
Skinner should not be in the lineup. He's not a playoff player. He's not a playoff player.
I agree with Arvidsson being in instead of him. And the other one, like, I know Kane's taken a lot
of stupid penalties, and he, I feel like he played well
in games one and two, like he was solid.
Maybe game two you could say, ah,
it's a couple stupid penalties, and maybe not.
If I'm Knoblock, I'm calling him into the room
and saying, listen, buddy, you've been brutal
for half of this series, if not more,
but we're not winning a mug unless you go
on the second line and you fucking demolish guys, you start making an impact around the net,
you get in Bob's face and you start fucking scoring some goals. They're not going to.
So bearing on him, losing him in the series and keeping him on the fourth line to me is
the dumbest thing you could do. It's the dumbest thing you could do. Why would you lose him?
And I know that he gets a little bit poopy pants and the fact that he's on the fourth line. He's not playing
He's not one of those guys who's kind of not gonna not complain
But they don't have a chance to win if they don't have him on the second line. He needs to be there
Am I wrong here?
100% 100% right I
The Klingberg thing I kind of understood
I, the Klingberg thing, I kind of understood game four, right?
Like, and then Stetcher, you see Stetcher, he turns that puck over to Verheggie, that was game three.
Now-
No, it was game, I believe it was game four,
but he got high-sticked in the head.
It was a penalty, but whatever, I'm not gonna fuck it.
I'm done, the refs, you cannot say any part of this series
has been directed or controlled by the refs.
I'm not doing that at all.
That was a penalty, but they won the game.
So, Stetcher doesn't play another shift.
He doesn't play in the second, third, or overtime.
How do you not go back to Klingberg at home?
Now, unless he's injured and we don't know,
but you have last change, you have the ability
to get him out there against the third and fourth line,
and offensively, like you mentioned, he can make a tape to tape pass.
They couldn't, I don't, I'm game five, I don't know if they made two passes in a row.
I swear to God, I was, a string came over for it Keith. Billy Ryan, I'm watching him like, we're just both like, this is, this isn't even the same league these two teams.
Which Florida has the ability to do. And I'll blame you, Biz, a little bit.
You had these guys dead.
It was two-nothing after games two in Toronto,
and then what were you up?
Two-nothing in game three.
You had these guys.
Three-one, we're up three-one.
You can blame Mitch Marner.
You can blame Mitch Marner, not me.
Okay, so going into game five, all right,
I got no thought in my mind, Kaepernick's coming out.
Dude, you're talking, and then you see how the game plays out.
No energy, no speed, and you have Kaepernick out?
He buzzes around, and yes, we saw the success he had, and then he kind of turned into, alright,
I think I'm a first liner again.
No, no, no, he had to get the pee-pee whack.
Buddy, you're a fourth liner that's playing with Leon and pod Coles in some of these
Rounds and games go back to being the fourth liner playing with Leon
But he made that assist to wallman
He could have shot that puck it was a beautiful play to take the lead for three in game four and he comes out
I I yeah, I'm with you dude. I'm with you. I don't understand
I my biggest gripe with knob block is I feel like he's afraid of confrontation I, yeah, I'm with you, dude, I'm with you. I don't understand.
My biggest gripe with Knoblock is I feel like he's afraid of confrontation.
If he's that upset with Kapanen, call him in and fucking give him a pee-pee whack because
you're not winning unless he's in the fucking lineup.
Jeff Skitter is not going to bring you a Stanley Cup.
I'm not trying to fucking like sewer this guy, but he just doesn't have the jam.
Kapanen will come out of his shell in order to try to win a Stanley Cup. We've seen it. He's been beaking at them
He's been involved in scrums with them
Like he can at least pretend for a little bit call him in the office
Call Kane in the office and say the exact same fucking thing get your fucking head out of your ass
We ain't winning a Stanley Cup if it ain't for fucking you two elevating your play.
And you said it, oh we couldn't string a tape to tape pass.
Well you know what happens with Florida when sometimes they're struggling to make all those
little plays?
They just dump it in and they go get it.
They can't fucking do that.
Yeah they're missing Hyman but they've been trying this.
The first game and a half they kept stretching it and they were making it work. They've tried it since.
Paul Maurice has made the adjustment
and they keep trying the same fucking thing.
They're playing right into their hand.
No wonder they can't make a tape to tape pass.
They're fucking way too predictable right now.
And the fact that not only you're predictable,
you're coming out with that type of energy and effort,
I don't know, man.
I don't know.
And another thing too, you mentioned,
oh, the puck moving defenseman, and he's good on the blue line.
They refuse to move it up to their D. Now,
you could blame it at the fact that maybe they're
a little slow getting up to the line.
But my god, they need to go low to high, walk the line,
try to get some through, and open up some seams at some point.
They're making it way too easy on Florida,
but listen, all this ranting.
I mean, look at their one goal in game five.
McDavid wins a battle on the wall, gets it to Bouchard,
he makes a beautiful pass.
At that point, it makes it 3-1, they're sort of alive,
but boom, what happens?
Two of the best players on the Panthers
make an incredible play, what, two minutes later?
That Barkov play on Perry, how easily he stole the puck.
And that is not a shot on Perry.
Like, I really think, like, anyone in the league right there is getting dominated by Barkov.
It was just the easiest stick check.
And then, a perfectly patient, weighted little sauce to Reinhardt.
Reinhardt then, eyes up, doesn't even take a second.
He actually did wait a split second
and just rifles that thing.
Right where Marshawn scored, the other side of the net.
Right where the crossbar meets the post,
and you're like, holy fuck, like this team,
and you showed the lineup stat.
I looked at the top nine scorers,
are there nine forwards?
It's like, Evan Rodriguez is number nine,
he's got 15 points.
I looked at that yesterday, I saw that tweet that you put up.
It's like, how are you supposed to beat this team?
You know what's even crazier?
How are you supposed to beat that team?
You know what's even crazier is those are all forwards,
but they also have 18 goals by defense in this playoff, too.
So you want to talk more depth?
It's fucking, these guys are a wagon.
They have 18 goals by the defense?
Yeah, Seth Jones has four. Ekblad's got four,
Schmidt's got three.
Do we have a list of all the D-men who have scored?
No, no, it doesn't even matter because-
But wait, what it comes down to is just that these guys
are buying in.
You look at, like if I was Knoblock, you go over,
you call Skinner or Kane in and you say,
hey, look at number 63 on that team over there.
He's been a first, a first line player the last what?
10 years.
I know March had to grind on the third and fourth line when he was younger, but
he's arguably a hall of fame player and look at him.
He's happy with playing in the third line, happy with helping out these young guys.
And look, he's going to win a fucking mug and he's going to win a con smite.
Probably like there has to be that certain.
And maybe it comes from the players too. maybe McDavid has to do it or Leon like
it has to come from within where you're like okay you know your role you know what you're going to do
if you are in the fourth line like you said you can't be poopy pants especially when there's
legitimately there could be one more game left in your season you could never be back in this
position a chance to win a mug.
It's never taken for granted, obviously, with Connor there.
You expect him to keep coming back,
but these guys have to buy in and be ready to go,
whether they're on the fourth line or the first line.
I will give Skinner credit.
Game four, him, Henrique, and I, was it,
who was the other winger?
They had a good game.
Now, yeah, you look at Lundell, Lusterine, and Marchand
as the third line.
Not a third line.
Now, I think Marchand partly, like we were talking
about his play off the face-off, right?
Now, not only was it the first goal he got,
his other goal was off a face-off. Two goals off of two one face-off, right? Now, not only was it the first goal he got, his other goal was off a face-off.
Two goals off of two one face-offs,
one of them in the offensive zone for the Oilers.
And he is just ready and he's beating guys.
And then I also wonder, like,
because he's with Lusterinon and Lundell,
who are two of the most solid defensive forwards
you could imagine in the NHL, right?
He's almost able to cheat a little bit.
And he's cheating off those face-offs.
Like I've heard people say, like the ref needs,
it's like, buddy, like he's getting the perfect hop
off the jump.
Like the winger next to him,
Pod Colson on the first one,
you have to be prepared, like looking at him,
and it literally takes one step.
You just get right in front of him.
He's not going anywhere, it's your ice.
But you're kinda sitting there, you're not ready
and you think it's gonna get snapped back
and you can figure out your four check
or your neutral zone regroup.
No buddy, this guy is pouncing on Pox
and part of it is Lundell and Luzterina.
All right, I'll be back, they know he'll be back.
And so when that's your third line,
and then I was talking to Pasha at the game at games three and four and
Bill at watching at my house game five like I watch Reinhardt, dude
He is so fucking good at hockey and I'm talking you you take you take all the skill and all the
Skating and everything you talk about that McDavid possesses which is some of the most amazing
Things to watch you could ever see in the game of hockey. Reinhardt,
he's just in the perfect position every time. There was a play on the wall. He's going against Dreissel.
What is Dreissel? Probably outweighing by 20 pounds, maybe three inches on him.
He just perfect position with his stick, boom, steals it from him.
It's like they have Reinhardt, they have Barkov, then they have Lusterine and Lendel Marshawn.
We haven't even mentioned Bennett.
Sometimes you're just like tip of the cap.
Tip of the goddamn cap.
That's why I'm not, the Oilers had a horrible game five,
but I wonder like is it just Florida?
Like they're just relentless.
There's just no ways to beat them.
And then when you do get through the four check
and the forward, the third man always high, you have D who could skate. And that's my next point.
Gustav Forsling. This guy, three teams got rid of them. The Blackhawks, right? The Hurricanes. I
think it was drafted by Vancouver. I don't know what they were missing. I don't know what teams didn't see.
Did you see the penalty kill that they had?
They went up one, nothing.
Oh, buddy, this, I was gonna bring that up.
Dude, you guys did a hell of a job on TNT Biz.
Forsling broke up three plays with his stick.
He had no stick for one of them.
Exactly, exactly.
And I'm watching this guy skate.
He's in McDavid's face.
He's cross checking Perry at the end of that.
And it's just like, this team, they're one of the best teams I've ever seen.
This ain't over though. It was never, ever, ever going to be easy.
Am I stressed to the max? God, yeah.
Am I panicked a little bit?
Bush-easy, as some of the kids say.
Am I giving up? No.
Sidney Crosby went down 3-2 the first cup they got in 0-9
against the Red Wings. And they, now granted they were going home for game six. It can
be done, but God damn it does it look difficult. And it's not even just game five. It's the
fact that this series could be done. I mean, dude, they were down 3-1 game one.
Wait, do you think if McDavid scores that early goal, things are different?
Yeah, I do. And what's weird is we talk about the brutal starts game three.
I mean, game three, four, five, really.
But in all the games, they've had a chance really quick.
I don't know if you've noticed. If you remember Game three, they had a really good
chance. Bouchard from the point, right? Like first shift 20 seconds in.
Game five, McDavid has that two on one.
And like, yeah, if one of those goes in,
especially in the Oilers building,
like it's a different story.
But after the quick start 30 seconds in in all these games,
it's just, the ice is tilted.
They're taking penalties, they're taking stupid risks,
stupid decisions.
Matthias Ekholm on that Bennett goal,
you're down one nothing in the first.
Get out of the first period, right?
No, buddy, you're on the wall.
You have to make a hard play there.
And he makes this soft little play,
like six feet in front of him.
Boom, it goes to Bennett over to Kachuk,
shot blocked, back right to Bennett.
And Matthias Janmark, who's been an incredible player
for these two runs, he is standing there.
He's watched, Bennett is right behind him.
He's just looking at the puck.
Like, buddy, head on a swivel, like,
this is a couple minutes left in the first period,
you're at home, you're down one nothing.
That's your man, puck goes right to him.
Like, if you're just head on a swivel,
you're not worried about the puck at that point.
And it's little errors and it's little errors, and then sometimes it's just the Panthers and their will and this team is
They're fucking infuriating to play against
I was pretty impressed with the way they handled like all the press after game four and then just how loose they were
Going into game five like they showed shots of the tunnel and it was Marsha who was leading the way, like doing all the handshakes and stuff. And that was a team
that looked really loose and confident coming in. And actually I was supposed to meet, like
I was going down to go grab a steamer and Brian Boucher was going, I ended up just going
to take a nap because I was so tired. And the JW and you know how nice that gym is
and they had that whole spa area. Well, he ended up going down and sure enough,
every single member of the Florida Panthers
in there having a steam together.
Like, and after that, they all go at the dinner together.
This is just a group that is so tight and united
that they just have a brotherly bond
that's really hard to break right now.
And if I'm a betting man, I think
that they're going to learn from last year
and close out in six.
I just, I don't think this thing's going to seven,
unfortunately.
I think that they're just too prepared.
They're too on their game right now.
And with the injuries that Edmonton's had
and the way that they've been playing and starting games,
I just see this being the straight up Anaconda chokehold
that we're used to seeing.
Now back to Toronto,
nobody thought that they could get it done
game six in Florida, right?
I mean, it's not over.
Everyone said the exact same thing
when Toronto was going back there, everyone did.
Toronto's got a better roster right now than the Edmonton Oilers.
Yeah, buddy.
You guys should mix your teams and then play Florida.
I'm not even trying to stir it up right now, man.
I think when you guys know Hyman, you got fucking Kane on the fourth line,
you're not playing Klingberg.
Like, call Knobloch and tell him to make the fucking change
You should be having zoom calls with Kainer and Kapanen
You have the ball. I think I think I think Klingberg will be in I think Kapanen will be in and we're going back to Stuart
Skinner and Stuart Skinner has a chance to become a legend in Edmonton for the rest of his life
Now can he go can they go steal a game boys?
in Edmonton for the rest of his life.
Now, can he go can they go steal a game, boys?
Everyone thought they were dead in the water game five back there last year, and they dragged him back to Bertha.
OK, they could do it this year.
Does it seem possible right now to most hockey fans?
No. But if you've watched the Oilers the last four years,
whenever you think they're dead, they come fucking storming back
and somehow shock the world.
Now you get to game seven, it's a coin flip. I'm gonna call it a coin flip.
This game, tomorrow night, this is it, dude.
And I said it was a McDavid legacy game in game five at home to take control of the series.
He scored a beautiful goal, but he's outscored 6-3, 5-on-5 in this series.
I'm not gonna sit here and say he hasn't been good,
he's been good, but I think,
would you guys agree watching the game?
I think that Florida is dictating exactly
where they're giving him his ice,
and I think that he's being a little bit too predictable.
I thought that those power plays you talked about
where Forsling and Ekblad were doing an unbelievable job,
they look like a one trick pony.
The biggest compliment I've given the best power play
units in the NHL for the last three, four years
is when something's being taken away, they rotate,
they figure it out, and they go exploit another area.
I feel like Colorado is one of the best at it.
Obviously, Edmonton, there's probably
a few other power plays that you can mention besides that that
are tops of the league that do that. Specifically those two teams because
they have the personnel and Bouchard, Dreisaitl, McDavid, Perry now in there for Hyman, which
like I said, I still think that there's such a, uh, an insane loss because of the four
check and other components of the game that he brings. But I was so disappointed. They
had an opportunity to make that game 2-1 a few times
with those two early power plays in the second period.
1-1.
Even 1-1 earlier, their power play.
Yeah, right, because they did have
that 1 in the first period.
But it's been a little bit disappointing.
But that said, though, as this series progress,
you see them all of a sudden earlier and earlier in games.
They're starting to go with Dry Cyt Side and McDavid on the same line,
where in rounds before this, they've been able
to keep them separate, and it was like a well-oiled machine,
and you got those two guys driving their own line.
So their team is just so good defensively,
and they have an answer, and if it's not the Barkov line,
it could be the Bennett line.
With the matchup that the third line gets,
I had a shift clipped,
but obviously the goal ensued
and then much more ensued in that first period.
But there was a shift at the 16 minute mark.
They put out the third line of Marchand,
Luz, Thurainen and Lundell,
and they hemmed them in for 45 seconds,
took the momentum and they never gave it back.
It's, Marchand's ability to hold on to pucks down low in the Ozone,
which haven't seen a ton of sustained pressure
by Edmonton wearing them down.
There's no really investing in games here.
He grabbed and they lose it.
Who's the first one to go get it back?
Little reverse hit, gets it back, keeps it alive, low to high,
and they just continue, continue.
And then because they're such a giving team
and they set their teammates up for success,
the next lineup, you get the offensive zone change
and they're breathing down their neck again.
So it's just, I just feel like their mindset
and everything else included going in
is just so much better right now.
But because like you said,
they have Dreisaitl and McDavid,
it's never technically over.
And we keep saying it,
they're gonna have to go
all world nuclear in a game to fucking get it done,
well, they better have it game six,
because it ain't gonna be the rest
of the guys getting it done.
I think last game too with not having Skinner in,
Pickard, he didn't even come out of the net
to try to stop any puck, so it was just the amount
of extra time Florida got in their own end, just from not having a goalie coming out and stop any puck. So it's just the amount of extra time Florida got in their own end,
just from not having a goalie coming out and stop the puck.
Like, Skinner does a really good job at it.
I think you have to go back to him with that.
And yeah, like you said, Biz, anytime that you have those two guys on your team,
they can win a game.
It's either that or they're counting down their days in Edmonton.
I do think that, well, Leon signed.
I do think that Skinner plays it that much better.
I think Hank had said that originally,
where like a team with this four check,
you almost need the help of a goaltender
who's very good at playing the puck.
Skinner's gonna be back in game six.
I was kind of shocked that they didn't pull,
all right, so game four,
they pull Skinner after the first period
and Pickard comes in, plays phenomenal.
They're down two, nothing after game five.
Pull Pickard, put Skinner back in.
Like this team's obviously a circus.
Like the orders are, put them back in.
And then I think maybe he stops Marchand's third.
I mean, obviously this is a total, like you're looking at all these different things now.
And it's wow He's actually I think he's been scored on four of the five breakaways so far in this series
I know but yeah, the only one that is going similar to the double ot winner actually
But I get it out I tweeted out as is this the best Marshawn's ever played I?
I've watched him in Boston for a long time and like yes he's been an
incredible player, a superstar and then things have taken a little bit of a
dive as he's older and the Bruins weren't as solid this year and he's coming off
three surgeries. I don't ever remember this. Somebody said in the 2011
Cup run it was very similar. He gets the puck every single time. I'm like, this is gonna either be a chance or a goal.
And he's just, he's on his toes.
He looks like Keith said, 20 years old.
And part of it is the matchups, and part of it is
who you gonna worry about in the first and second line
if you wanna even call him that for Florida.
That's not a third line, Lundell, Luz, Teraino, and him.
And then I go back to kind of,
I go back to Zito and what he's done with this Panthers team and how he gets
Bennett, what was it? A second rounder he traded for him and how he gets Kachuk
when he realizes Uberdo, he doesn't really want him there. He gets Kachuk.
And how he gets Jones and how he gets Marchand for a second rounder,
now a first in seven years, whatever.
Masterclass by the GM in Florida.
Masterclass.
My old agent, Paul Kropelka, he's a part of the crew there.
He was with Carolina.
They put Forzling on waivers.
He said, get this guy.
He was in the AHL where Kropelka was running that team.
And he's like, I just watched this guy all year.
He's incredible.
Get him, grab him, put in the waiver claim.
Look at him now.
He's the best defenseman on that team.
They have Ekplat, they have Jones, they have Mikala.
It's Forsling.
I think you could say Forsling is now,
has surpassed Slaven as the best defensive defenseman
in the league.
I would say that-
He's like Duncan Keith.
I know that people-
I would put him at the top.
No? Slaven's amazing. Yeah, I'd that people. I would put him at the top. No?
Slaven's a man.
Yeah, I'd say they're 1A, 1B.
Look at this guy.
All of them, all the Oilers are suffering right now.
Yeah, it's just like, god damn it.
You go against this team and you somehow win game one.
And then game two, you barely tie it up late,
but you get the loss.
All right, game three, let's show up pounded game four down three nothing like this
series isn't as close as it three two even makes it seem that's what that's
that's the one thing where I'm like going into game six I'm like it ain't
like we're dominating games and losing we've been pretty critical of Edmonton
there's only one guy who could bring our spirits back up for the Edmonton Oilers, though.
And he will be joining us.
We need Stoff.
We need him.
All right, hold on.
I'm sorry, guys.
I'm all over the map.

Right now, game time, by the way,
$630 for Game 6 tickets to see the,
possibly see the Stanley Cup.
All right. Wow, that's cheap.
Yeah, I mean, I think in Edmonton,
it would be way, way, way, way higher
because we care more, but the Panthers are an amazing team
and their fan base own
By the way quickly quickly. I was getting all sorts of heat for me waving
Goodbye and saying see you Tuesday night back for game six in Florida. You're rude. You're an asshole. That's how you win
Oh, we lost game three. I had at least 50 Panthers fans flipping me off
Fuck you, it bitch, bitch.
Nice ears, scumbag.
That was me.
So at the end of game four, yeah, I'm waving goodbye.
I'm waving goodbye.
See you guys back here for game six,
in which I thought we'd be able to win the Stanley Cup.
But I was getting, this is one tenth of what I was getting
when you guys won game three.
And you handled it well the game before, Whit,
like really well.
I ate it.
You were taking it on the chin,
like days at Houston.
What would you do, Bizz?
Like you took it.
Pale pussy, big ears bitch, suck it, suck it.
That was me, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
So I raved goodbye after.
I would say that that was probably
the most I've ever seen you be a fan like you went
lost my mind full biz leafs mode delusional after that game for where
apparently before the game I was flipping apparently we're saying song
over and over I was sitting next to him in the bus he played the same song over
and over and over the pink pony club yeah pink it's an unbelievable track
pink Whitney club it's a great and and and biz even before the game like I was on the Pink Pony Club. Yeah. Pink Pony Club. It's an unbelievable track. Pink Whitney Club.
It's a great track.
And Biz, even before the game,
I kind of snapped on Grinelli at Earls.
I was all over Keith.
Murlz was pissing me off.
Men vs. boys, dude, men vs. boys.
I bet the Oilers, why are you mad at me?
Then the comeback began.
I'm booting these guys out of the box
because they weren't there for the second and third goal.
I said, memes came in in the second intermission.
He scattered out like a little mouse.
He was dropping things.
I was basically kicking memes and Grinnelli out.
But yeah, I lost it.
And then at the end of the game, my emotions took over.
But I'm not going to apologize for waving goodbye
to that arena.
No, you shouldn't.
After the names I was called, Father's Day was coming up.
My kids had to, my kids go to her,
you ugly bitch with the big ears.
What am I supposed to do?
I'm sorry for saying that.
I ate the two, I sat there, I went like this.
How about the early celebration when I caught you
with the early celebration?
That wasn't me, it was Jesse.
It was both of you.
It takes two to give a high five.
No, no, no, no, no.
Let's explain what happened.
Let's explain what happened.
So, Oilers take the four, three lead, okay?
So I was in the box the whole time, sitting on the,
I swear to God, I went down, like I left for a minute,
but I was talking to Judd Hull.
So sitting there talking to him, like the entire game,
and I go stand up to see,
you know, the last 20 seconds, and Whit,
and what was the guy's name?
Jesse.
Yeah, Jesse, he was like, all right, we're going back,
we're going back time.
No, no, Jesse goes, we're going back time!
And I'm just like, high five,
but I didn't really hear him that well,
he just like, and then Keith's like,
early, Selly, early, Selly!
I'm like, wait, what did you say? What did you say?
He's like, I said we might be going back tied.
I'm like, did you?
He's like, oh, and I could tell he didn't say might.
He did not say might.
And then boom, Reinhardt's ties it up.
That was like, I'm like, we're done.
So when Leon scored that goal, like my emotions,
I almost ran over two little kids, those poor kids.
They were in Panthers. I tried running them over. I'm just so weak, I almost ran over two little kids, those poor kids.
They were in Panthers.
I tried running them over.
I'm just so weak I couldn't even knock over a seven-year-old.
But my emotion and my anger and I just, I sent a group an apology text, the Chicklets
chat.
I said, guys, I'm appalled.
I got to apologize for my behavior during the day of game four.
I am completely lost in the sauce of this series.
I can't stand the Panthers.
I can't stand their fans.
I need to see the Oilers win the Stanley Cup.
And then game five happens and I'm just tail between my leg on the coach after like this, shaking my head.
What do we do?
How do we beat them?
I don't know if we can.
McJesus has to do it.
Leon has to do it.
Where the hell is Kaepernick?
Why isn't Kane flying around?
What goalie are we going to play?
What is the coach thinking right now?
Why does our power place think?
I don't understand what's happening.
Why is Bauman yelling at the Panthers bench when he makes it four three
instead of just going to his bench and celebrating and trying to close out
a victory in game four?
I don't get why did Hyman get injured?
Why did Hyman get injured?
Why did Hyman get injured?
Now Nugis injured? I don't get this.
This is unfair. I don't like the Panthers.
I hate my life. Oh, it's Father's Day. Happy Father's Day injured. I don't get this. This is unfair. I don't like the Panthers. I hate my life.
Oh, it's Father's Day.
Happy Father's Day.
Thanks kids, love you.
I've, great little rant there.
I've completely written off the Edmonton Oilers,
but if there is one way that they could pull off this series,
I think they need to send in our next guest
for a pregame speech to fire them up for game six.
I think you two need Ayahuasca this summer.
There he is right there, ladies and gentlemen, the Stoff Monster.
We're alive.
We're alive.
Stoff, I'm going to need a video of you walking down the beach,
similar to you walking down the runway before the Vegas series,
before tomorrow's game.
Oh, I'm only allowed to do that once a year, fellas.
Sorry.
I may have used that juice already.
So that was brilliant stuff, you guys.
Firstly, thanks for having me on, um, Ryan, it was, it
was tough in there in game five.
And sometimes you just have to acknowledge, like, you know, you guys had me on before
Vegas, I talked about Kelly McCrimin and how well built that team is in Vegas.
But then you were kind enough and couldn't find anybody better than
that and have me on before Dallas.
And we talked about Jim Nill and what a great organization I got, but these
guys right now, the Florida Panthers, they're in the Stanley cup final.
They're in the Calder cup final.
They understand.
You know, they're sitting there with seven guys that played in the four
nation space off, and I'm going to throw one at you here in 19.
They're the first team since
the 1980 New York Islanders to have nine players with 15 or more points.
And they did something similar to what the Islanders did that year.
And I remember this as an Emerson kid growing up, knowing that the orders
were going to evolve into a pretty good team at that time, but they made
the trade to get butch scoring and butch ended up winning a, you know, a con
smite for them.
And he was huge part of their success when they won their first cup in 1980.
And I look at that Marshawn trade and that line has been the killer in this
series.
And so you guys are right.
You know, there was probably several of last nine periods.
Florida has been the better team.
Edmonton is going to have to channel whatever they can, uh, to, to find a way
to, but it is hockey, um, and, and the orders do have a couple for horrific
players that can flip things, but that the orders are playing, let's face it,
they're playing a wagon, they're playing a really well run, well structured team
and every line plays the same.
They're tough to beat Florida.
I know it's hard for you to be critical stuff.
I've been very complimentary of Knoblock
and all the right buttons he's pushed
throughout these two runs.
I just was not crazy about those lineup decisions
going into game five.
Like I, Klingberg should have played.
Why did Kaepernick not play?
Why?
I think the concern was that there were some defensive.
Challenges at times.
And it is from a captain.
I will say this would not surprise me if captain is in all.
And I wouldn't be surprised if Klingbertson.
I think when you have, when you get beat the way Edmonton got beat, I know that
the orders ended up with score effects out shooting Florida by the end of the game
and Florida were the better team and they were in control.
That game. Uh, I, I, I could foresee some changes and I'll just cut the chase
here. If it's me, I'm starting Stuart Skinner. You know, I think you have to,
I think they got some shots. They got some shots in junk time.
There was three minutes left in that game and Edmonton had only put up 16 shots
on that and they'd had three power plays. So I get what you're saying, by the end of the game,
I believe they outshot them.
We all watched the game, it was fucking domination.
It was domination.
It was domination.
You can't put under the hood numbers, Pasha stuff.
Let me ask you a question about the power play,
because I think it's 17% in this series,
but that's just not what Euler fans are accustomed to seeing,
and it's obviously, like like eye tests not working,
specifically game five.
It seems like they're not like switching up.
Biz mentioned, like they're not going to maybe
a different formation, and what I wanna see is
McDavid on his strong side when he's playing downhill.
He gives it to Bouchard, he walks to middle,
he gets up towards the blue line, he flies,
he's getting the puck going downhill with speed. That hasn't happened as much as he's over on the flank and then looking for Leon down low on the offside
Do you think they try something or is it just this Florida PK is that good and dialed in?
Brian who's got the best penalty killing amongst all the teams in the playoffs?
Florida okay, and most goals in the playoffs the last I'm I'm just going to pull it up here. The last two years, the orders are, uh, well Ford, there's seven for 47.
The last two years in the final 14.8%.
Now here's one for you.
Uh, and it's one of the regular stats sources that's available.
Paul has access to it.
I don't know if you guys do, but he certainly does through TNT.
New Jersey had the highest expected goals on the power play during the regular season at 10.3 per 60, okay.
They ended up.
So they created the most chances.
The orders in this series, despite the fact that their first power
play was terrible in game five, it was bad.
Like they just had nothing going.
The orders power play in this series in terms of expected goals for is at 14.4 per 60.
There's a, you know, there's a, Hey, I'm telling you Florida's outplayed Edmonton.
I'm telling you Florida has been the better team, but I'm going to tell you right
now, the orders have been unlucky not to have created a little bit more of the
power plate based on those numbers.
Well, that one shift in the first, it was at the, it was the second, I believe
they did have, I don't know if you remember that PK Biz, they had a million chances and then at the end it ended
up being deflected out of play but as that power play got on, and I think it was a minute
40, the four killers were stuck out there, I'm like this is it, they got to get one here,
and it finishes with a puck over the glass, but that's probably the power play that you
could say was at least dominant and gave them the opportunity to score.
The first period one, that's disgusting to me
because that crowd is electric,
they got nothing going in the start,
you get this chance to tie it up,
and that's what we see.
It's like, I don't know, I'm wondering,
Stoff, in your opinion, these starts that they've had
where Ekholm is saying, yeah, if we knew what was up,
we'd be able to fix it. Is that on the coach?
Is that on the leadership?
Because this is five games in a row where you're, you're not ready to play
or maybe four games in a row.
Yeah.
Cause they scored a minute and a half in a game one.
Um, I mean, they've, they're giving up, they've given up at least two goals in
all five games in the first period.
Like there's no, I mean, you guys all play, there's no recipe to
success with that app.
I think there was a little timidness because they've taken a lot of penalties.
I think they've had 14 ice sticking penalties in the series.
Florida's had two.
It's been unreal.
Um, which is a sign sometimes maybe they're arriving a little late, right?
On plays trying to make hits and that sort of thing.
I was a little concerned, you know, they skated a couple of days in a row down here on the.
I'm just going to, I'm trying to remember the days.
I guess it would be shoes.
So in Wednesday, they had a full practice where they told media that they
weren't going to skate, which that actually technically wasn't off day.
And the guys all decided, you know, but 16 of the guys decided to skate the
day before they had a full practice.
So, you know, it's, it's, it is, again, I don't want to make excuses.
Like I want to acknowledge how good Florida has been.
I think we know that I also want to say it's the best of seven.
It's the best of five.
And there have been a couple of occasions where teams have been up.
Are you know, I can remember the New Jersey devils being a, they're
reigning Stanley cup champs in 2000.
They're up three, two Colorado, one game, six, one game, seven in the series.
Um, and if I recall correctly,
and Tampa wasn't Tampa down three, two to, uh, Calgary.
And they were going on the road to that was the, that was the year where there
was the disputed gel in a goal and overtime, it was a way Martin gel in a,
for completely useless,
superfluous information.
The only man ever to play a playoff game
for Edmonton Calgary in Vancouver.
You can test your kids at home.
A little fun fact from Stoff.
Stoff, what are you the most disappointed in
outside of the starts?
What are you the most disappointed in
from the Oilers thus far in this series?
Like where are you like, why?
Because I thought, you know, and, and Ryan brought it up before just the Hyman
factor, like I think given how deep Florida is, Edmonton needed everybody going.
And again, it's, it's not an excuse, but like, I'll just, I'll like Bennett
or Reinhardt got nicked up in round three early in round three, I think against
Carolina, like if they don't have Reinhardt or Kachuk, one of those guys, It got nicked up in round three early in round three, I think against Carolina.
Like if they don't have Reinhardt or could Chuck one of those guys and the others have Hyman, it's probably, you know, just given again, they've got seven guys
that played in the four nations face off amongst their nine forwards, the only two
that didn't are Verhege who's been one of the best playoff scores in the league.
And Rodriguez, who's a very effective utility, uh, you know, utility player for them.
So I think that, you know, I was hoping some other guys would pop up here.
They had secondary scoring in the last couple of rounds against really good
teams against Vegas and Dallas.
Those were good teams and those are teams that know how to win.
Like with all their respect, LA.
They've owned a playoff series since 2014.
The orders have beaten them four years roads.
You know, LA is not quite over the hump yet learning how to win.
Whereas you look at Vegas and Dallas, those teams know how to win in the
playoffs and Edmonton's depth scoring showed up in those series and
it hasn't against Florida.
But I, so I guess I'm a little disappointed because you need to
be able to score five on five.
The other part of it is.
Bob Ravsky is at nine 31, five on five save percentage.
Like he's locked in as well.
So I think the biggest thing for me, business just, you wish the power play was better.
They're creating chances, but they're not scoring.
And it's been two Stanley cup finals in a row that it's been an issue.
And number two, you were hoping for more five on five scoring.
But when you look at the caliber of a Florida team with seven guys
played in the four nations, they're, they're top nine's really good.
Like it took Jack Michaels and me.
Like I was thinking about, I grew up watching the orders of the eighties.
I'm like, I don't ever recall the orders having nine forwards with
15 or more points in the playoffs.
And they never did.
They never did.
Right.
So again, the Islanders were the only team that we could find in the last 45
years and two of their, you know, pop in and Steph on person were the,
two of the defensemen.
So this, this shows you how good this, this Florida team, this organization
right now, they're the standard.
They're the standard.
And you, you, you make great points and that's why bids like when you say what's most disappointing about the oilers, I understand that, like, game five, that was that was easily the most disappointing game. But I don't know if it's the oilers just failing and choking or it's the Panthers are that good.
or it's the Panthers are that good.
Like it's hard to be like looking at the Oilers right now and be like, oh my God, this is pathetic because they're playing against one of the best teams I've ever seen.
I you got to give credit where credit's due and the Hyman factor.
If you're able, if you want to put Leon and McDavid together
and then throw Perry on their right wing, that still leaves Hyman Nuge.
That's that's the problem is like,
when you put those two together
and maybe throw Perry or Brown with them,
then it's Nuge and you're like,
it's just such a loss that I'm not making an excuse.
It just sucks.
It sucks for Oilers fans.
It sucks for their team.
And I think it does bring up the point,
but it's that you mentioned about Kane.
Like, Kane's gonna have to play on our top two line on Tuesday night and he's
going to have to play a hell of a fucking.
They got to put them on the second line. They can't keep fucking around.
I know he's taking some stupid penalties. They got to put them on the second line.
Yeah, I think there's a, you know, that's probably a problem, you know,
possibility that ends up occurring here. Just, just again with Florida.
So Zito comes in as a guy that worked on the agency side of the business. I think with acne, if I recall correctly, before he went to Columbus, but they
have Paul Fenton's been a GM in the league.
They have, you know, Rick Dudley, uh, who's been a GM in the league.
You mentioned, uh, Cropelka and they've got, uh, Sonny made it one of the best
out like this, like you look at what they, I met Vinny Viola the night that
they had the orders 85 reunion and they were putting the, you know, they
had some hiccups along the way, but what they've, what they've achieved as an
organization, like they're really good.
And I'm going to say this right now.
It's all about game six for Edmonton.
We know that.
And then trying to get the game.
So that's an absolute.
But there's been moves made to address some things that didn't pan out in July
1st by Stan Bowman during the year.
This is going to become Stan's team.
He built three different, you know, it's certainly two different.
I don't know.
Some people might debate how much of the 2009 10 was Dan Bowman's team, but he
built different types of championship teams in Chicago, and I'm fairly bullish that the orders are going to be a better team next year
than they are right now, because I don't see Connor going anywhere and I don't
see Evan Bouchard going anywhere.
And if the orders have McDavid dry settle and Bouchard, that's about as
good a base as anybody's got.
So I, as much as you're nervous about being down three, two, there's 30 other
GMs in the league that wish they were in a position of Stan Bowman and the Edmonton orders right now.
There's 30 other franchises.
Yeah.
You got to take it like what you've got to take a little bit of heat and crap
from fans, given it to you for a beach and orders, just an orders guy, just
like wit has to do with it, or just like biz has to do with the leaves.
But at the end of the day, it's been an incredible run the last couple of years.
Just go, just go out there and play your ass off and see what happens.
Exactly. And that's why I'm not saying this is over.
It's an enormous mountain you got to climb.
And if you can win one, though, can we all agree it's a coin flip?
I don't care who's playing. Game sevens are coin flips.
There's no chance this is going seven.
All right. All right. Say what you want.
But you said that Toronto said that Toronto could win Game
six. I don't know why you think that Edmonton can't win Game six.
Regardless, I want to go back to Lundell, too.
And I think in 2020 it was still Dale Talon, but they took Lundell.
The next pick was Seth Jarvis.
And I think as time's gone on, it's like, oh, I don't know, Seth Jarvis,
four nations member for Team Canada. But you look at Lundell, I think he fits in gone on, it's like, oh, I don't know, Seth Jarvis, four nations member for Team Canada.
But you look at Lundell, I think he fits in better
with Florida than Seth Jarvis would.
I think Seth Jarvis is a much high level scorer,
but you look at this team and how he plays.
Now, if Lundell's their second line center
and Bennett isn't there, are they the same team?
Not even close.
But he fits in exactly where they needed to be.
And maybe a tenth overall pick.
What?
He signed through 20, 30 for five million bucks a year.
Like he's fucking.
But if he's your second line center,
you're not the same team.
And if Bennett leaves, he will be.
But that's.
Yeah, do you know who had the 14th pick?
Edmonton did, they took Holloway.
Well, I love him in the lineup right now.
So, I mean, I almost, it was hard.
There was a piece written in the athletic about the best value contracts in the
league, Brian McLeod was the best value contract and Buffalo Holloway was, and
Broberg were both listed with St. Louis and Fogel who was listed with LA.
I mean, I know, I know you guys think McDavid sticking around.
I think that in the last few years, like they've done a good job
of putting some band-aids on mistakes.
I think they fumbled the situation a little bit.
The fact that, like they got Jeff Skinner
making three million bucks.
Like you're telling me you can't bring back Holloway?
Like what the fuck's going on here?
Yeah, well, there was, you know, I have a lot of the key.
I mean, you guys have got a massive platform.
We have a small little show at Edmonton that does okay, but we have Elliot on
and Franks, Sarah Valley and Pierre Lebron and Brian lot who's about as
connected as anybody and all I can tell you is I can 100% guarantee that there
were people in the orders organization that had communicated that they believed
that there was going to be an offer sheet as far back as November of 2023.
There's, there's only one way I can 100% Aaron Dian, but I know it.
So you could figure that out.
So, um, yeah, there, you know, there were, and, and, and I guess this is going to be
both, you know, coming up, this will be Bowman's first July 1st, his first course
of action, biggest course of action was getting dry settle done.
The guy signed an eight year extension and then have the, you know, was the
best skater in the league this year.
There's no, like he was second in our trophy, uh, voting behind Hellebuck.
And now this summer, Stan gets to work on the privilege of working on
the McDavid and Bouchard deals.
And I think Bouchard's finally silenced.
Like, you know what?
Like at the end of the day, you're both, you know, Keith, you and, and, and Ryan
were offensive puck moving defense, right?
And sometimes when you're in those roles and you're not sitting there
skating through drilling guys and you know, being cycle stoppers defensively.
There's a nuance to that role that not every fan appreciates.
They want to see defensemen blowing guys up and, you know, blocking
shots with their face and stuff.
But the toughest thing to do is to make a five foot pass and create
transition and create office.
Cause the hardest thing to do in hockey is score.
And that's what Bouchard does.
And so those two guys, McDavid and Bouchard both represented by Wasserman,
Jeff Jackson's former agency.
Um, they're, they're going to be a big part of Stan's work in the off season, but there
was no question that if hands and butts were candy and butts with what happened
last year, July 1st, certainly played a factor in sort of the course direction
that the orders had this year.
Stoff, um, we're going to go right now.
Rollback last question.
Use code CHICKLITS on rollback.com for generous 20% off your first purchase to the end of the week.
That's CHICLETS on R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com. Amazing gear. 20% off all polos, shorts, swim trunks, and more with code CHICKLITS.
The only golf shirt I wear.
There are people out there, maybe me included, who would love if you were behind the bench, if you were the head coach of the Oilers.
love if you were behind the bench, if you were the head coach of the oilers.
So give me the Bob Stauffer.
If your head coach for Tuesday night, game six lines for the Edmonton oil.
Oh, I was going to say, I'm not going to, I'm not going to give me the lights because of people playing together.
I might, I might, you know what?
Maybe you just have to play best on best.
Like I might go down that path.
You might have to go down that path and just load them.
I agree.
That's the one thing.
And I am a firm believer that code less is more with coaches in terms of.
Motivationals.
I mean, I, you know, I, I, I come on as a guy that works for a club.
I can't sit there and talk the way I do with my buddies at the bar, but I'm a,
I'm like, get the point across in 15 to 25 seconds.
And that's dope.
And, uh, which is why I think Corey Perry has been so effective.
It is like, it's, it's been incredible guys at the end of the day, you're
looking at a 40 year old guy that's got 10 goals in the playoffs and just.
I can't like last year he had one.
I can't believe how much he has impacted the team in a positive fashion.
So just go out there when the next shift, when the first period and go from
there and see where it rolls, you've got some great players, you got a really good
team, we know how good they are to go win the day.
That's what it's all about, man.
You sound scared, stuff.
You sound scared.
Stopped, never scared.
He's always even keel.
I'll tell you this. I'd stretch you out, no problem.
Oh, yeah.
Hey, so I actually have one last rollback question,
because that one you kind of dodged it a little bit.
Now, I asked Whit this exact same question, and he said, no.
If you had the ability right now to take Hyman's injury, and that way he would have
a healthy arm and wrist, and he could go back
in the lineup for game six and of seven,
because you probably think they're going to stretch
at the seven, would you take his injury
and full recovery process?
I know you bleed orange and blue.
Would you take his injury for Edmonton,
that city and that team, and go through that? Would I personally? Yes, you literally have his injury for Edmonton, that city and that team and go to that?
Yes, you literally have his injury and you have to go through the rehabilitation.
I would block slap shots in the nude to see the Edmonton owners when the Stanley Cup.
That's all you need to know.
And I was a lazy forward that never came back into my own zone.
When I played with Kurt and Penn Stadium.
They should put fucking Stoff in the lineup.
I agree.
Let me see the first fucking period.
Imagine him as a net front guy.
Paul.
Stoff, thank you so much.
Hey, Stoff, it ain't over till it's over.
It ain't over till it's over.
Awesome.
Hey, thank you gentlemen for having me on.
Enjoy it either way, Keith, Ryan, what's up?
Tell Jack Michaels, great call on the Leon game winner,
game four.
That was awesome.
He never hears that from me.
Trust me.
Hey, and stop if it is your last year, guys.
Thank you very much.
If it is your last appearance this season,
Bravo, buddy.
You're a legend.
You're a fucking.
Thanks, guys.
Class.
What a guy.
What a guy.
That guy.
How about the nuggets that he brings, man?
Unbelievable.
I mean, the Martin Jelena playoff game Vancouver, he brings, man? Woo! Unbelievable.
I mean, the Martin Jelena,
playoff game, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, boom.
I've been dying to know that.
Stoff.
I love him.
Oh, where do we go from here, guys?
So we actually have Steve Goldstein coming on
in about five minutes.
He's the play-by-play guy for the Florida Panthers.
Great dude, awesome at his job,
and I'm very interested to ask him a few questions because he was there for some dark days.
He was there for a lot of years when the Florida Panthers had nothing. They've
turned... He's actually ready right now. So why don't we bring him in right now.
Steve Goldstein, who's been doing play-by-play forever it seems like. He's
now finally getting to enjoy a dominant team. the best team we've seen in years.
And what do you think on what you've witnessed last season and so far in this
Cup final, Goldie? Well, it's been amazing.
I'm up here at my mom's house in Delory Beach for a little Father's Day.
So you got me Florida style in the house.
It's awesome.
It's been incredible to watch what, you know, ownership from Vinny Viola right on
down to Bill Zito is
hockey staff what they've been able to build and of course the players you know
when you have Barkov and Bobrowski and guys like that that work so hard you
know I thought last year I was telling every hey everybody enjoy this this is
once in a lifetime and now 365 days later here we are back again in 60 minutes away from another one.
So I just so happy for all the diehard fans and so many people.
Because I always knew I always knew South Florida was a great hockey market,
but you had to give a product and the last handful of years,
they've certainly done that.
I'll let you go, Yanzi.
Goldie, I just like we've talked about the Marchand trade so much like till we're blue in the face
How did this all go down? Do you have any nuggets for us?
like it was in the witching hours of trade deadline and all of a sudden boom Brad Marchand a captain of a
original six team a future probably Hall of Famer is on the Florida Panthers like
How did that all go down? I have no clue. Yeah
like how did that all go down? I have no clue.
Bill Zito magic, man.
I mean, the first thing he did was convince Patrick Hornquist to wave his
no trade to come to Florida, you know, and then they go and steal Bennett and
they steal Reinhardt and they steal Montor and I say steal no disrespect to
those other teams, but you're giving up prospects and draft picks like, you
know, Yuri Kulik, probably a decent young player for the Sabres,
but Sam Ryanart's already got a Stanley Cup and 60 minutes
away from winning another one.
So, you know, Zito, I don't think ever, Jans, rules anything out.
No stone unturned.
And, you know, I guess the patience that they have and they weighed everything out.
And they, they found out at the last minute that, you know, I guess the patience that they have and they weighed everything out and they
found out at the last minute that, you know, the deal wasn't going to work out with the
Bruins and sure enough, I mean, Paul Maurice was already, I think, packing up and leaving,
figuring the deadlines over and hang on coach, we can get Brad Marsh and holy cow.
I think we often think recency bias with the Marshawn and obviously Seth Jones, probably
one of the best deadlines any team who can potentially host the Stanley Cup has had.
I just go back to the Kachuk trade.
Now when you guys make that trade and he comes in, did you just notice a culture flip right
away?
And I know it was hard because you guys get rid of Hubert O and Weger who were very well
liked here. I believe Hubert O had won some hardware that year or you guys
had won the President's Trophy. So what was it like his impact right away and did you
notice things that were just different?
Yeah, it changed when he walked through the door. It was a skilled team, it was an exciting
team, they could score some goals but when he walked in, you felt that playoff championship type
atmosphere.
He's that kind of guy.
Let's go out, you know, old school.
Let's bang him around.
Let's have fun doing it.
You could tell the difference.
He brought the juice.
And there's another one, because I remember talking to Bill Zito after that trade was made. And I said to him, you know, like, you're kind of swinging for the fences on like a
trade like that.
Like how do you, how do you go about it?
And I'll never forget, he said to me, you think we're swinging for the fences.
If you had the information and knew what I knew, that trade's not swinging for the fences.
And I remember at the time everyone thought they gave up too much, if we recall that.
So he's got a different way to approach it. But yeah, Biz, to your point,
Matthew Kachuck is one of those guys where he walks in, the whole mentality kind of changes.
And you drag a lot of other guys into the fight.
As you guys know better than I do,
you guys played when you have people like that
and no disrespect for the depth players,
but you wanted to come from your best players.
When you got your best players
that have that kind of attitude,
it brings everybody into it.
And I just thought, G putting the chat here,
he had 115 points that year, Hubert O.
So that's a, it's still a ballsy trade, right? And he was beloved here, he had 115 points that year, Hubert O. So that's a, it's still a ball.
And he was beloved here.
He was beloved here.
I know, but that's Zito seeing that series against Tampa
and being like, this is not a cup winning team.
And that's not even saying anything about Hubert O.
But he knew like the playoffs are different.
Tampa had that tenacity.
And I don't think he believed that Hubert O.
Like has that in his game.
Now amazing call looking at it now, but then Reinhardt, you bring up Reinhardt. tenacity and I don't think he believed that Hubert O like has that in his game now
Amazing call looking at it now, but then Reinhardt you bring up Reinhardt I said the other night to a buddy he had 58 goals and then the next season he's up for the Selke
It's like this is the type of play like you know how crazy that is that many goals in the next season
You're up for best defensive forward award
But I want to go to the D and we talked a little bit before you came on
about Forsling.
It's insane, like he's just so good at skating
and position and he is not scared.
When they picked him up off waivers,
what did you know about him?
What did you hear from the staff in Florida?
And were you as shocked as everyone else
when he immediately just kept moving up in the lineup
and turned into their, he's their best defenseman. So he's a great example so Bill Zito and I'm guessing he's not
fibbing on this and I'm not sure who it was but there was a couple of people
scouts hockey operations that were banging their fist on the table. Zito's
words not mine. You got to get this guy. So he comes in Joel Quenville still the
coach if we remember and I asked Joel because he had him in Chicago
And he said all the physical talent in the world. He was great in training camps
Didn't always translate when the game started. So you're talking about a guy that was then in their mid-20s
I think Patrick Hornquist was a factor a fellow Swede. He was already here
Gustav Forsling is probably the fittest guy in the NHL.
I mean, you watch him, the guy never gets tired.
In fact, guys, tomorrow night, Reinhardt and Forsling are going to set the
NHL record for the most games played over a three-year period.
It's going to be their 309th game.
Mike Keane actually has the record from the late nineties.
So he's played a ton of hockey.
Um, you know, chasing around McDavid and Dryshod, the last two Stanley
cup finals, not to mention Braden Point, Austin Matthews, all the
other great players they play.
I didn't know anything about him.
Carolina has to be kicking themselves, putting them on waivers, especially
since the Panthers have beaten them
into Eastern Conference Finals the last three years.
He's just an amazing guy, and he's a great player.
And the Panthers were able to figure it out.
Someone in that hockey ops knew the guy
and thought he had his potential.
It was Kripelka.
It was Paul Kripelka who was in Carolina.
6.2 million, too, for fuck's sakes.
Well, let me tell you about Kripelka. If it wasn't Kropelka who was 6.2 million to for fuck's sakes Tell you about Kropelka if it wasn't Kropelka, you know, Kropelka will take credit for it
We got it one of those on our staff
Yeah, he created hockey. I don't know if you guys knew that he actually meant at the game
I want to know if you're gonna wear Panther gear tomorrow night at AmeriPak, Harita. That's all I want. Come on
Give me something. I'm going to and you're gonna wear Panther gear tomorrow night at AmeriPankarita. That's all I want. Come on. Give me something
I'm going to and I'm gonna mush you guys
Well, this you've been this keep doing what you're doing cuz you've been pushing us all along with all the maple leaf garbage
I mean you thought they had it in game seven. Let's call. Let's call it. What it is. Oh, I love it
I love it. I love your path or you've witnessed since he became the first overall pick
Your path or you've witnessed since he became the first overall pick
When did the transformation in Aaron Echblad's game?
Really come where you're drafted first overall in your mind. You think you're gonna be a
6065 point first power play defenseman offensive stud and then slowly you kind of realize All right, maybe I'm a good offensive defense and I'm not an elite one and I'm gonna be a prick and I'm gonna run people over, I'm gonna
elbow people in the head. I don't know when it happened. Like, you've watched it
all slowly kind of change for him becoming a true shutdown guy as opposed
to what he was drafted to be. Well, I'm gonna stick with, you know, the
Hagel hit was in the chest. That's my opinion. And the steroids were fake. I don't know anything about that. And, Wynne, I really don't know what you're talking about
here today. I don't know what's going on with you, man. I think when Paul Maurice came in,
he brought in this style. Moe made the great comment the first day of the press conference,
we're not trying to take the Ferrari, you know, put it away,
but we got to put snow tires on it in case there's some bad weather.
You know, we got to just kind of dee it up a little bit.
And I think Ekblad was a great example that took him maybe half a year or a full year
and give Aaron Ekblad credit because to your point,
with he does sacrifice some offense to be that defensive player that he is.
And I give him a ton of credit for doing it.
And to have a guy of his size, his professionalism, remember, you know, playing in all situations,
he's killing penalties.
He's now back on PP1, if you want to call it that, over on that flank with Jones running
it. Um, I think in year one slash year two under Paul Marie.
So, you know, three years ago and two years ago, that's kind of when
that transformation happened.
And the guy just w like the rest of these guys, I know it may be cliche.
They just want to win.
Like Barkov could care less that he doesn't have a goal in the Stanley Cup final.
He just wants to win one more game and raise that cup again.
And I think Eppelad's in that boat too.
Barkov is very Zettelberg to me, Biz.
Yeah.
And even Datsuk.
And Datsuk had a couple 90 points seasons.
Same with Barkov.
They didn't give a shit.
They didn't give a shit about points.
And that's why they won those cups.
And Barkov now, I mean, I watched that guy like it's it's absolutely incredible.
That's steel on Perry.
And then that dish, it's like perfect Barkov, not to mention he tried
the between the legs goal.
So you see what he actually could do.
But he's never doing that shit unless it's the last possible option.
He's a true leader. He doesn't whine.
I've never seen him. And Keith, you played with them.
Goldie, you've announced them. Have you ever seen that guy have bad body language? Oh, I doesn't whine, I've never seen him. And Keith, you played with him, Goldie, you've announced him.
Have you ever seen that guy have bad body language?
Oh, I didn't get the puck there.
Oh, like, he's just, boom.
Head down to the bench, back on the ice.
Head down to the bench, back on the ice.
It's just professionalism and brilliant hockey.
Goldie, I had a question.
Just, for me, outside looking in right now,
it's when Bob's going, the team's going going and obviously when you have a goalie like Bob a future Hall of Famer like
But it's his calmness that I see right now like it's during warm-ups
You see him making you know save you seem tapping guys on the ass during the game during play like does he bring?
calmness to that group that is
Infectious throughout the entire you know crew
He doesn't.
He's always given the guys credit.
You wouldn't know, okay, if Sergey Bobrovsky won game five at Edmonton 48 hours ago, or
he lost six to one to Ottawa in January based on his body language and all.
He's the same guy every day.
And it's incredible because we know it's no secret guys early on in his Panther
career, there was so much talk about the contract.
He's not playing the way they thought he would play.
And all of a sudden Maurice comes in with his defensive system.
There's a lot of predictability.
He knows where the puck is coming from.
But Yance, his calmness really does permeate
throughout the team and they know they can count on him
because he doesn't give up many bad ones.
I mean, you could count on one hand the ones in the playoffs
this year and even the last two years that you say,
man, he's gotta make that save.
And when one of those does squeak in, which isn't often,
the door is shut after that.
So the other thing that people need to realize is the Panthers are so good.
They're the best four-checking team in the league.
The Ozone time is amazing as it was last game.
Sometimes he stands back there, guys, for like 20, 30 minutes without good scoring chances coming his way.
Not every goalie can do that, but he's able to stay in the game. And I thought in game five, he won't get a lot of credit because they didn't
have too many shots on goal. But he's got Connor Brown, what, 40 seconds into the game
coming in on a breakaway. He at times Edmondson puts that pressure on, he makes the save.
So he's been amazing. And what a career. If he can get one more win here I mean you're talking back-to-back cups for a guy to eat in his 30s. That's
It's amazing
Goldie I just have a couple more you mentioned his name earlier Paul Maurice
Like what's your relationship with like like with them in or with with him? Excuse me? Jesus Christ spit it out biz
And like what's it been like since he's been on board because I feel like he takes a lot of attention off the players too with his post-game scrums
and I feel like sometimes he's the focus,
but he's almost like doing it on purpose
and he just seems to be a joy to be around
with his hockey knowledge humor.
Witt wants to kill you right now.
What's that?
Witt wants to kill you right now.
You gotta tip your cap.
I mean the guy, he owns us and he owns the league right now.
What are you gonna do?
Yeah, better if you tip the Panther cap with, but.
Yeah.
All right, Goldie, enough.
All right, no.
I mean, what do you expect?
I'll end this stream right now.
I mean, if I'm on, you know,
if I'm on, I'm gonna bring it with, you know.
True, true, true, true, true, true, true.
He's been amazing for, like,
as the play-by-play guy for the team, it's awesome.
There's, like, any time I wanna talk to him, you know, and he
knows more about hockey, you know, in his pinky than I have in my whole body. Um,
you know, explain stuff gives you the information. Like my job is so, and I'm
not just, you know, BSing you. My job is so much easier because he's the coach.
He talks to us every day, our entire script sports crew, you know,
ask him whatever we want.
So it's been remarkable and I'm happy for the guy because, you know, he's a grinder, man. He's in there.
And I guess as the players go, as you know, for you guys, he's so good with the
video, with the clips, like he doesn't keep those guys forever.
He's showing them, here's what we need to do. He's got the four or five non-negotiables in the game. And I
think he's a player's coach. You know, he lets his assistants do their job. He's not
just joking around when he says, I don't have anything to do with the penalty kill. I left
those meetings a year and a half ago and they do their own thing. Same thing with the goalies. He lets Rob Talis and the goalies run their thing. So he's been amazing. And you know, credit to Zito too.
And Matt Caldwell, the president, they interviewed a lot of people for that job. They left no stowed
unturned and they figured that, you know, he was the right guy for that time, you know, them hiring
Zito and then Zito hiring Paul Maurice. And It's been amazing that this guy can finally gets his gets his cup and he's on the verge of maybe getting another one
I'm personally happy for him
Goldie it's an incredible squad
It's an incredible team, but it ain't over yet
And you know that and and one thing is that the Panthers if they've struggled at anything
It's kind of closing series out when people think it's going to be done.
You saw last year three games in a row against the Oilers.
You saw Toronto this year. I have a little life. Am I on life support?
Yes, but I'm alive. So we'll see what happens Tuesday night.
You must miss calling these games, though, huh?
You get to call the excitement first round included,
but then it turns into the national broadcast.
You must be chomping at the bit to be the TV.
You must be doing a different, like a team broadcast, no?
Well, I'm doing the games in my head, of course.
It's the, you know, drawback of local TV.
But you know, our script sports, you know,
what we're on here in Florida, year one,
these guys are awesome, so we're doing pregame shows. So at least everybody that's worked, all five of us on
the broadcast, we're still working. And as you guys know, I'm doing the team stuff on
the scoreboard and we're doing Instagram live. So I'm still able to, to be around it. But,
you know, for many years, I didn't really think about it because we couldn't even make
the playoffs or win a playoff game. So my biggest problem in life should be the Panthers keep winning
Stanley Cups and I didn't don't get to do the play-by-play that should be the
biggest issue that I have any you know and the other factor biz for you man
we're all living tax-free baby so that I wasn't letting you off the hook brother.
Hey can you guys you sound like fucking Big Caesar now just can you please please please bring in another Dolphins player to bang the drum because I think you're now 0 and 7 when Dolphins players
bang the drum so bring in Ricky Williams have him smoke a big blunt and bang the drum. I'll go down there with him and smoke one.
That's a good name.
By the way, whoever's getting that stat out there,
Mike McDaniel banged a drum in the playoffs,
and they won games.
So I don't know where it really came from,
that they never win when a dolphin bangs it.
I don't know what the record is, but they have one a few to be.
I don't want to kill the narrative,
kill the fun stuff.
I don't know.
Do you guys know who's banging tomorrow night?
I have no idea. If it's the ants, I'm fun stuff? I don't know, do you guys know who's banging tomorrow night? I have no idea.
If it's Yans, I'm puking.
It could be Yans.
Wait, it could be you.
Goldie, I just want to congratulate you.
You've been with the team since 97, I believe, right?
Yeah, you're right.
It's been an unbelievable run.
How grateful are you to be a part of it
and get to do what you love to do every day
with now a Stanley Cup champion team?
If the team was this good, he'd have his hair still.
But the dog days, he lost all of his hair.
Yans, I thought there was love.
You held on as long as you could.
I think you have a great bald head.
That's a good bald head.
Settle down, Biz.
Tire pump.
Oh, no, he got muted.
It's just been a lot of fun.
It's been a lot of fun being around, you know, you just, you're happy for so many people, you know, like this, you know, you guys are around like the security people
that are there and all, you know, sales people, there's so many people.
And then of course you got like the equipment guys and it was guys
grinded in the medical guys.
So it's been an amazing run and it's nice to see South Florida.
You got even south of the Miami-Dade-Broward line.
The city of Miami is all into it and the game is growing.
It's all, I still can't believe it.
I still can't believe they're in position and not done yet, as Witt said,
positioned to actually win back to back in the
salary cap era in full 82 game seasons.
I mean, what they're doing is really unprecedented.
It is.
You're right, Goldie.
We appreciate you coming on.
You've been the voice of the Panthers for so long.
The fans love it.
Couple clicks for them.
It ain't over yet though, bud.
It ain't over yet.
We'll see you in Edmonton.
See you in Edmonton. We appreciate your time, brother.
Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
Panther hat with Panther hat.
I don't think not happening.
He played for them.
What a guy. Seven games, zero points minus seven.
I didn't exactly play for him.
Thank you to thank you to Goldie.
We got to talk quickly about a couple of different amazing sponsors.

And we're permitted by law.
Yeah, you got to be permitted by law enforcement to get those scents.
And Body Armor.
Body Armor was the reason we were in the barn
for game three and four.
The seats they gave us, perfect.
Amazing to be able to get in there.
We lose media passes, boom.
We have Body Armor hooking it up, getting us tickets.
This episode is brought to you by the Body Armor Sports Drink.
This summer, cool off with Body Armor Chill,
a bold new way to hydrate with no artificial dyes,
flavors, or sweeteners.
Enjoy a new new refreshing cooling sensation in three impossibly cold flavors.
Frozen berry, frozen cherry and frozen orange available for a limited time.
Grab yours at 7-eleven or a store near you. Shout out Body Armor. Keith's got the
new bottle there. So boys we talked to representatives from both teams. What do you got, G?
We got a little breaking news here, guys.
And this is big, especially for you, Witt Biz.
Evgeny Malkin, according to Josh Yeo of The Athletic,
will play his final season in Pittsburgh this upcoming year.
And I have a Pittsburgh legend ready to join
to talk about this.
Better not be Merle's.
And he's muted.
Okay, he's got his fucking mic muted.
Jesus Christ, get out of the elbow room.
He's still muted.
This motherfucker.
This guy needs a body armor chill.
Can't hear ya.
Not set up correctly.
This is what happens.
He's stuck in the elbow room for the past few days.
This is what happens when you spend a whole afternoon
with Keith Kachuk at the elbow room,
getting ready for game five and Edmonton. So we're,
we're going to figure out his technical issues,
but I'd heard rumblings that it was going to be his last season.
So I mean, fuck Gino, what a run man. And wet.
So I think it would,
I think it was maybe you or somebody sent to the group chat that when they
win their first Stanley cup,
I want to say Crosby has held the three points
in that seven game series against Detroit.
Who was their leading scorer in that Stanley Cup final?
Evgeny Malkin, man.
On Smite that year.
He brought the noise offensively,
and I'll never forget that game he had
against the Carolina Hurricanes in the conference finals
where his family was in the building,
where he had that behind the net,
like no look backhand, spinorama, top cheese.
I think that was the hat trick goal.
So damn, man, like I'm starting to feel old.
I mean, this is a guy where I went to training camp
with the Penguins.
It was after that season,
and Frank Bonomo brought him in an envelope,
and we were riding the bike next to each other
and he looked at it and you could see
that his mood changed, he was a little happier.
And I go, what's that?
And he goes, check.
I go, for what?
And he goes, bonuses, bonus, bonus.
I'm like, let me see it.
It was a million dollar bonus
for all the stuff he'd done the year prior.
So I think he went out and treated himself
to a white Porsche that he was zipping around town
in Gotham City, so to speak,
in Pittsburgh.
So god, man, I'm feeling old, but it's been a hell of a run,
and I'm really interested to see his final tour.
They got to make playoffs now that it's Gino's last year.
I don't know.
Can we hear him?
Hey, I don't know.
Can you hear me now?
We got him.
My ears are ringing because you're talking about me so much on the show
I feel like being Nikki spokes with oh
Yeah, that's what a guy to compare yourself to good job, but I have I was not at the elbow room yesterday
I've been in this room drinking the body armor chill. So were you there on Saturday with Keith Kachuk?
No, I saw him when I was running by there. I've been doing the beach runs down here in this nice warm weather.
So I've been, I've been playing it clean down here.
I remember, uh, Gino, my, my, my favorite memory of him is when he had five assists against
the Maple Leafs and he smashed his stick like it's a 14 different pieces cause he didn't
score a goal after the game.
Like you said, five apples, just an incredible competitor.
And you brought up the cons smite in in the 09 Stanley Cup win there first.
Crosby didn't even play the third period that game.
And Malcolm was every other shift of force that entire series, especially
the third period of Game 7, a legit legend.
And the coolest thing about Malcolm, which has also reminded me so much of
dry saddle in these years is whenever Sid was injured, he reached another level and
Leon's kind of the same way with McDavid where like Sid goes down for you know
I don't know a month here and there at the concussion get the outdoor game against the Capitals and it was almost like Malcolm's like
Yes, I get to be the guy now like he loved playing with said obviously
Oh the other great thing was his first game when like Sid always went last and he's like, no, no, no, no.
Me last Russian super league, more games pro games.
He said, okay, so Gino, the Russian bully on the ice, an incredible player.
Merle's you missed them, right?
Cause I think it was your first year gone.
Yeah.
But I was so bad before that, that we drafted them.
So we got Malcolm and Crosby cause I was so bad before that, that we drafted them. So we got Malkin and Crosby because I was so bad.
But the reason I wanted to come on here today is it's funny.
You brought up Con Smythe.
I wanted to get your guys' takes.
It's really down to four guys on DraftKings Sportsbook.
You got Bennett minus 175 and you got Marshawn plus 400.
If it's Florida is going to win it.
And then you got McDave and Dreisaitl pretty even if Edmonton can come back. So if it does end tomorrow, who do you got winning it? No question. No question.
Marshawn, some of the best Hawks you've ever seen. This is Sam Bennett's trophy. I think you're crazy.
Breaks the record for most goals on the road in a Stanley Cup. Is a complete mental, physical beast
on the ice.
His interview's after, he's a sociopath.
I texted the group, I think he's just telling himself,
don't say I wanna scalp and eat the people I'm playing against.
Don't say I wanna scalp and eat the people I'm playing against.
Like, just no reaction, you called him Hannibal Lecter
on the broadcast.
He didn't like that.
Any team would do anything for this guy,
and I go back to the shift in game three
I mean
He puts pod calls it I'm surprised Paul calls and got up and then he runs
Klingberg and then pod goes and turns it over because he's coming at him again, and he buries a beautiful
Breakaway goal the way he's played on the road which the hardest thing to do in sports Stanley Cup playoffs on the road
I don't even think you could consider anyone else.
All right. What if Edmonton comes back or will depend on who does the damage
the next two games?
Dry Saito is their MVP right now.
Yeah, right.
All right.
Dry Saito's got eight points through five games in the finals.
He's got the most overtime winners in the history of a Stanley Cup
playoff with four.
It would be fitting if Pittsburgh went down three to two in the history of a Stanley Cup playoff with four. It would be fitting if Pittsburgh went down three to two
in the cup final in 09, and then they came back to win,
and Malcolm got the MVP, that Leon Dreissel would do
the same thing if the others come back this year.
And he kinda got snubbed on the heart.
I think big time.
We can get into that now.
It was announced, Connor Hellebuck,
winner of the heart trophy.
We'd already seen, I think the week prior, where Kucherov won the Ted Lindsey, which is voted on by the players
Crazy to me that Leon didn't get either but the year he had because he's Tomahawks everybody
I've been on record saying like I'm not really a huge fan of goalie winning MVP based on that
You're not playing every game now. Yes, the you're playing, you're in the entire time. I think it was an incredible season. I think
he's got now back to back Veznas, which will be his third. So I get it. He was amazing.
I didn't agree with it. I don't know. Murl's, Biz, Keith, what was your take?
I think, yeah, I'm with you. I think it should have went to Leon. Um, but I think we talked about it with two,
wouldn't you?
I'd rather win the Ted Lindsey where you voted on by your peers.
Like that would be the one I would want like just to have the respect throughout
the guys that you're playing against every single night. No offense to the media.
Cause we are media. Um, but yeah, I would rather the Ted Lindsey.
I think that would mean the most to me.
Yeah.
I just think he gets hurt.
Everybody still thinks like it's partly because of McDavid, even though he was
hurt, but that's still in the back of their minds.
Some guys that who we, who'd you have on here talking?
And they were like, yeah, they don't know they're like writers.
They're not watching the puck.
I think it was like the exit.
He's like, if you really watch the game, like a former player,
then you know the real puck.
So you get some guys that aren't following the league and they don't realize how good
dry Cytl is.
Um, yeah, I mean, he plays, he plays a lot for like a modern day goalie, like number
one, like more so than some of them.
So I'll give them the nod on that.
Um, and also I probably don't watch him enough
in the regular season where I see him come playoffs
and I'm like, what?
It's the same guy?
So happy for him, hell of a fucking regular season.
Kind of fell off the rails a little bit there
in the playoffs, but I think if you're dry saddle,
especially when McDavid went down
and you elevate your play to that level,
it's hard to deny over 50 goals, man.
That's a beast-like performance.
And so he won't be bringing any hardware home
other than the rocket then.
Yeah.
That's it?
That's tough.
That's tough.
First team All-Star, which is, you know,
when you look back later, when you make those
post-season NHL All-Star teams, that's big time.
But yeah, surprising that Leon
didn't get either one of those, but congrats
to Connor Hellebuck, I met him one time
at the draft awards in Nashville two summers ago,
awesome dude, like, he's a great guy,
I thought he was really quiet, he wasn't at all,
so very happy for him, and hopefully-
Very cool video, he was out fishing,
they come home and they surprise him with the Vezna
and then all of a sudden, boom, here's the heart too.
So very cool, I don't know if you guys saw that.
That'll be on all the NHL social media accounts.
You can check it out online as well on their website.
So they've been, I like the way that they've done it.
I think that those shows are painful.
Like I just.
Well you had to run one of them one time
with your broke back mountain outfit on.
It's like, I think it's time to go to the videos.
Yeah, well they told me about that
like two days ahead of time.
So I'm like, oh, I'm gonna dress like an asshole
and be an asshole and nothing changes.
So in other news, similar video,
awesome way Kale McCarr won his second Norris trophy.
He's playing golf with his buddies.
I believe his parents live on the course.
They went into, I don't know what he thought
the celebration was, something for his parents.
He shows up, all his family and friends
have the Norris trophy, give him that.
He's down with the dog, very wholesome moment.
You're watching a guy who, I mean,
I think most people are saying
he's like the best defenseman since Bobby Orr.
I think I argued with you, Biz.
You can't consider that because of Nicholas Lindstrom.
And now it's like, I don't know, man, like this guy's probably going to go down
based on what we're seeing as a top two or three defenseman to ever play the game.
He continues to do it in a very classy way.
He seems like a guy who when you talk about leaders who call out their teammates,
like yeah, that works for some people.
I think he just shows up, dominates games,
does it quietly, professionally.
He's very friendly to media, very easy to talk to.
And it goes back to the Murals telling us the story
that he commits to UMass under one coach.
That coach leaves and he honors his commitment
even with a new coach coming in.
Very, very impressive young man. And the way he plays on the ice and
skates is unlike anything I've ever seen.
Yeah, it's basically like the McDavid of defensemen.
It's like every fiber they're being-
But he has a cop.
That's true.
It's every fiber they're being going into their craft.
You're not gonna get any calls early in the morning like, hey,
we got an issue here, Cale McCarr was out. no, he's fucking in bed at nine o'clock.
Maybe a little bit.
Yeah, they ain't getting the Nechushkin.
The chat's saying that Murl's invented McCarr.
No shit.
Yeah, he did.
Well, hey, all credit goes to you.
Murl's car.
Well, my old roommate, Danny Bari,
he helped him with his development,
so I kinda had a small. Oh, basically you, yeah. Yeah, he helped them with his development. So I kind of had a small. Basically you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I love it.
Next in the, in the quick hits, Chris Drury, I now will, this remains to be seen.
Is he fleecing Pat for Beacon, Anaheim or is Pat for Beacon like, I know Truba and Kreider
can help a lot with my younger team, but Kreider is out West. He's going to Anaheim, he agreed to go there.
The trade was fourth round pick,
and Harry Terrence in a third round pick.
I don't know, I'm confused,
but Crieder's a member of the Ducks.
What do you think, Biz, Keith, Murr,
do you like this move for Anaheim,
or do you more like it for Drury getting off
two contracts of older players
that have been Rangers for a long time?
I kind of like the guys they brought in the hands.
I mean they got Goudis, they got Kalon, they got Kreider and Truba.
And Truba like.
Vatrano.
Yeah, Vatrano.
So they've, they're at least surrounding these young guys with guys who are experienced,
have been on Stanley Cup runs before, and have playoff experience.
So I don't mind it.
And listen, I also heard Rumblings,
they were going to try to make a stab at Marner.
So maybe they're trying to sweeten the pot, saying,
we have a decent enough team now where you can come in here,
and who knows, man?
I believe the goal is for Anaheim,
they want to make playoffs this year.
I know you want to make playoffs every year, but you look at their rosters the last few years, it's like there's not a chicken dick's chance they want to make playoffs this year. Like I know like you want to make playoffs every year,
but you look at their rosters the last few years,
it's like there's not a chicken dick's chance
they're making the playoffs.
Like this year they have a legitimate argument
with the moves they made and these younger players
like the Leo Carlson's, I can't even say that,
Russian defenseman's last name, who's pretty nasty.
The young goalie they got.
Lecombe.
Yeah, they got.
They're gonna be good, dude.
Yeah, that nail gun who played for the Peterborough Peets.
They got guys.
It's also like,
Joel Quenville isn't gonna wanna go to a team
and just not make the playoffs.
I'm sure they had their conversations.
We gotta bring guys in and stuff like that.
But I really like the trade for cries.
I think a change of scenery, a guy that's been in New York for Jesus,
probably been 12 years, 14 years.
So I think it'll be a good change of scenery for him.
He'll come out, you know, something to prove, you know, everyone who gets traded,
you know, you have a little chip on your shoulder.
And I think for him, he'll, he'll have that.
He'll, you know, he works his nuts off every summer anyway.
So I think he'll be ready to go and he'll be a fun team to watch anyway.
Do you think Kreider goes to like, is he a like a Ring of Honor guy for the Rangers?
Doesn't he have the most goals ever by a New York Ranger?
I think if he stayed there for sure he would be. Now leaving maybe something different
but yeah probably.
Is it most playoff goals
I don't know if he's most goals ever but he yeah
He was a he was a force for a long time some incredible teams
You were a part of a few of them Keith came right out of BC
I think hopped into the playoffs that year and get a hat trick when I saw the video of him jumping out of the pool
Like he jumps out of a pool and like land like I can't even like swim out of a pool and use the stairs to get out.
So he's a freak physically.
He's been amazing for a long time in big games.
And that is what Anaheim needs.
I just look at Drury getting off deals
that probably like maybe even could have got off
of those deals a little sooner,
but he's like, all right, things need to change here.
And then you hear rumors of possibly moving on
or trying to move on from Mika.
But quickly to Anaheim, Murls,
because you also invented Leo Carlson.
Yeah. Yeah.
Do we see this year be the step of like 80 points?
75 to 85 points and then maybe follows that up
with 90 points because based on what I've seen and heard,
we're looking at a future Ryan Getslaff.
Yeah, he's like stud and you remember we talked to his agent
He said his like his growth plates weren't even fully formed or whatever however it works. I'm not a doctor
But yeah, he's only gonna get keep getting better year after year after year
But and talk about the Rangers if you watch them closely last year, they just were not interested in playing
So there was definitely a culture problem along with the coaching problem
So it's not a surprise to see them getting some of those big names.
Those guys that have been there because it needs a revamp.
It needs a new culture.
And boys going back to Crichter, he's third all time in Rangers, uh, goal
scoring with 326 goals and he's actually number one in playoff goals all time
for the New York Rangers.
So I don't know so I don't know.
I don't know, does that get you in the ring of honor?
Because I'm looking here.
I know, no cop.
And then Hank's up there, but Hank's one of the best goalies
we've ever seen, and he had the gold medal,
and he never played for another team,
as Keith just mentioned.
I don't know.
It's a good question.
But Biz, you mentioned Marner.
Andy Strickland reported.
It's he's he's gone.
He is no longer going to be a part of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.
I don't think super surprising like I figured that this was over.
Incredible before we get into some other points about this.
Incredible that they're losing him for nothing. Like shocking almost.
And I get you're trying to win the cup, the curse, all these things.
But like, holy shit, we're losing a top offensive player in the league for nothing.
Shocking, to say the least.
Now, I chatted with some agents, none of them his agent, very interested to hear
what I was being told in that he's going to go
out west, apparently.
The number will not be what you think it's going to be.
Kind of surprising to hear that.
Now I think there'll be teams willing to get to the number that we've heard around 14.
None of those teams will be competing for a cup, so he doesn't want that.
Carolina's willing to spend a ton, but apparently he wants to get out of the East.
I'll go back to this.
Marshawn has 10 goals this year.
In the last seven years in the playoffs,
Mitch Marner has 10.
13 overall in his career in nine years.
I don't see a good team willing to pay 13,
even 12 million for his game.
Now, we'll see what happens,
but I was not surprised at all to hear it is over.
And Biz, your quick thoughts on losing him for nothing.
That's the biggest kick in the dick.
Warning, the following statements are about to be made
by a deranged Leafs fan.
The views expressed are his and his only.
Take everything you hear with a grain of salt
because remember, he is a deranged Leafs fan.
Great timing, great timing.
Listen, he's a great player.
I think his asshole puckers up come playoff time.
I don't think he's an unreal playoff player.
Um, people want to say all points per game, blah, blah.
I don't give a flying fuck what he does in the regular season.
I watch the games and playoff times.
I could see that he tenses up.
He doesn't win battles.
He's not big enough to, he's a perimeter player.
He's the fifth or sixth guy in my opinion
on a Stanley Cup winning team.
Most important player in the lineup
on a Stanley Cup winning team.
I think that he's probably gonna end up in LA or Vegas.
He probably ends up making about 11 million.
I'm also hearing rumblings that it might be
like a four-year deal type thing
where he's not gonna sign the big long extension,
where he's just gonna go to a place,
he's gonna see if he likes it, try to win something,
and then maybe sign the big eight-year,
seven, eight-year ticket
after that one's all said and done.
So, yeah.
But you would be how old then?
Is he 28 now?
I believe he's probably 29 by a time 28. He turns. No, he just turned 28
So four-year then at 32 try to get another one
I mean buddy if he's putting up 80 90 points in the regular season with the cap
Accelerating at ease as it is you could probably get an eight-year at whatever, 13, 14 million dollars at that time.
So that's just kind of the way the market is.
Like he's a very, guys, I'm not trying to take anything away
from this kid, I'm just saying that I think that
I just don't, I kind of don't like the attitude
in the way that it's all being left.
Like I feel like he's, he feels like he's been slighted
where they try to make that deal before playoffs even began, where it's like your play tells me why they
try to make that trade. Like it tells me everything. And the fact that you get, you lose them for
nothing is kind of, it sucks. Like I think I wish the management would have had the balls
to kind of do what they did with the Hubert. Oh, and it's funny that we talked about him
earlier. Like sometimes you have to make
hard trades in order to get yourself over the hump.
And they obviously viewed Hubertel as a guy that they didn't feel like he was a dog.
They couldn't they couldn't get over the hump with him.
Mind you, he did have one hundred and fifteen regular season points that year
that they traded him. So I kind of view it as the same where it's like, yes, he's good on the power play.
He's going to have success.
He's going to chew up these non-playoff teams
and get points on the power play all season long.
But when push comes to shove, I personally
would rather give $13 million to Sam Bennett
than I would Mitch Marner.
And that's just me.
Take your charts.
Take whatever you want to do
and stuff me in a locker, but one guy's got more goals
in this year's playoffs than Mitchie Marner has had
in his entire playoff career.
So I'll leave it at that.
Who do you think wins a cup first, Mitch or Toronto?
You have to think Mitch based on where he's gonna go.
Yeah, because he's gonna probably go over to Vegas,
but I don't know.
Now, if he goes to Vegas, they gotta sign Eichel.
He ain't making more than Eichel.
So yeah, you could see that as a low,
that would be where he gets the four, I don't know.
I'm rambling, but God, if he goes to Vegas,
then you're looking at him,
I wouldn't say he's the fourth or fifth, but say after, you know, Eichel, say after Stone, he's the third.
Maybe that helps.
Maybe that works.
I don't know if he fits in with their style as much, but it's just it's just wild to see
when you lose a guy for nothing, that's that good.
It just it hindered it crushes an organization.
Now, can they go out?
Can they convince Sam Bennett to sign in Toronto?
I think Marshawn and Bennett are going back to Florida and the scariest part of that is
what the fuck is going to stop them from winning more?
Like if they get Bennett and Marshawn back and then they even if they lose Ekblad they got Forsling, they got
Jones, they got who the other D, they got Mikula, they got Kulakot,
it's like they're not going anywhere.
So why would you leave if you're Bennett and Marchand?
I know I'm changing the subject here,
but okay, so Bennett could get 10 million a year
for seven years and Florida will give him what,
seven and a half or eight for eight years?
You're losing six, seven, eight million bucks, who cares?
From my understanding is they don't wanna go north of eight.
So I would just say offer Sam Bennett eight times eight.
I think he would be foolish not to take that
regardless of who's offering them seven times 10,
anywhere else.
Like by the time it's all said and done,
we're talking about six, seven million dollars
here after taxes at max.
And you have the ability to just keep
winning and enjoying yourself with your teammates and you're also this you're
you're the second-line center like not all the focus is on you so you get to
actually enjoy shit where all of a sudden you're going to a team with that
type of tag they're just gonna keep putting the microphone in your face when
things aren't going well where who's Marsha like think about the people the
amount of guys who get interviewed
before Sam Bennett does.
Like you got Brad Marsha, you got Keith Kachuk,
like Matthew Kachuk, like he just gets to just play
and worry about his game and not have to worry
about all the nonsense and outside noise.
So I agree with you guys.
I think they're gonna keep this team intact
and it is gonna be a scary team for years to come.
And you might see the greatest modern day dynasty that we've seen.
The only other one that you could compare it to would be Chicago.
They won three cups in six years and, or in a five year period, I guess,
right in a five year period.
And I think that they have the ability to be the modern day Edmonton
Oilers, the modern day New York Islanders.
And I think that if those guys sign at those deals
and they look themselves in the mirror
and they take that hometown discount,
I don't think there's any fucking around.
They're gonna do it.
Did you guys catch the US Open yesterday?
Yes, I watched it.
I was so happy for that Spawn guy.
So listen to this.
This is via MondayQinfo on Twitter.
Talk about never giving up.
Edmonton Oilers, don't give up.
JJ Spawn, 2013, made $11,000 on the Canadian tour.
2014, made one cut and $800 on the Canadian tour.
2015, won the Canada Order of Merit,
which is basically number one on the Canadian tour. That gets him to the Corn Fairy Tour. 2015 won the Canada Order of Merit, which is basically number one
on the Canadian Tour. That gets him to the Corn Fairy Tour. The next season he
finished third on the Corn Fairy Tour. He earned his PGA Tour card. 2017, 18, and 19
he finished 97th, 62nd, and 99th in PGA Tour points, barely holds on to his card.
2020, 185th in points on the PJ Tour,
lost his PJ Tour card, went to the Corn Fairy Tour finals
and finished second to get his Tour card back.
2021, 174th on the PJ Tour in points,
kept his card only because of COVID
and the crazy rules that went along with that.
2023, 34th in points on the PJ Tour,
starts getting things going, has his first PJ Tour win. 2023, 60 second in points on the PGA Tour, starts getting things going, has his first PGA Tour win.
2023, 60 seconds in points, does nothing.
2024, 98th on the PGA Tour in points, and he just won the US Open.
It was his second ever US Open start.
The man was five over through six holes in the final round.
And God damn it, did he never give up and deserve that win?
Dude, I've never seen, right there, I've never seen,
that's actually somebody who stole the tweet from MondayQ,
so you're giving the caddy network the wrong credit,
they stole it from MondayQ.
I loved watching the golf like that.
I think many people thought, I was arguing with my dad
on Father's Day no less, but we had a great day, awesome to arguing with my dad on Father's Day, no less,
but we had a great day. Awesome to be with your dad on Father's Day, be with your kids. It was a great day.
But he's like, I don't know, they go in the rough and everyone has to hack it out. I'm like, yeah, but like you got to hit fairways.
Now, we'll go back also to a moment in the tournament that was kind of crazy to me. So casual water on a golf course, crazy rain delay, water everywhere.
I always thought the rule was,
if your ball is in a spot on the course
where you're standing and water's coming up from the ground,
you get to go no closer to the hole,
the first point where there isn't casual water,
where you're not stepping on the ground
and water's coming up to your shoes.
Sam Burns was standing in basically an enormous puddle.
It was like there was reporters who went out to where he was on this hole after and they're
walking around and waters coming up everywhere.
But two rules officials would not give him a drop somewhere no closer that's more dry.
He ends up pulling it left, kind of loses the tournament there.
But shocking to see that but more JJ Swan.
Do you see the one clip of like, what's the guy's name that would have happened to?
Sam Burns.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're like Sam Burns trying to try to win the US Open and this guy is literally like
trying to hit out of a huge puddle and then he, he, he like hits it and then falls in
the puddles like swim.
So it fell right in his face.
Yeah. It was a pretty funny clip I saw on the Twitter machine.
But yeah, holy fuck, eh?
I agree, man.
I think there should be a few more tournaments a year where
these guys are made to felt like normal golfers, where they
can struggle a little bit.
It shouldn't be 20 over 15 or 20 under, 15 under.
Like, let's go even par.
Like, make it challenging where they have to hit fairways.
And some of the greens though are a bit ridiculous.
Like you saw that JJ Spahn, he hit the flag
and all of a sudden it was like off the green.
He was getting fucked in the ass early in that round.
And he never like, the body language thing
we talk about though, like he did,
he got hosed on that one early and he just kind of,
dude, like I'm just going to of dude like I'm just gonna keep going
I'm gonna keep going. I'm gonna keep grinding. I was so happy for that guy
He lost in a playoff and the players to Rory and Rory McIlroy
oof
Father's day he won he won the Masters
He became one of like what five or six men in the history of golf on this planet to win the Grand Slam
to win every major you would think like
The next few years the rest of his career. It's gravy
Like I thought he'd end up lighting it up win more majors all this pressures off
This guy looks like the biggest baby whiner. What the fuck is wrong with him?
He's walking around like it's almost like he lost
the masters how he's acting.
He won't do media.
When he does do media, he's just like a baby out there
whining, I've never been more confused on what I thought
would happen after this legendary victory in Augusta
to what is going on now where he's just like,
everyone's turning on him.
It's like, buddy, like how are you not in a good mood?
How are you not happy?
What is your problem?
I don't know if you've seen some of these interviews.
It's just bizarre to me.
He's furious at the media.
He's just in a bad mood constantly.
It's like, I don't get that.
To me, it's like, buddy, you just did it.
You climbed the top of the mountain.
What are you upset with?
Still wants that Liv money.
Yes.
You think he joins Liv?
No, I don't think, I think people have said he's disgusted
that the tour put him out there and he was the voice
of the tour fighting against Liv.
It's like, all right, I get that.
Reason to be kind of disgusted with how that's gone down,
but I thought this guy would be the happiest person
in the world the rest of his career.
Like, who gives a shit?
I'm a legend forever.
And he looks like he's got a big dump
in his pants every day.
Yeah, like if McDavid won the mug this year,
we'd expect some smiles and stuff.
Like, same thing with Rory.
Like, dude, you just won the biggest tournament.
You gotta be happy for at least a couple weeks.
A couple weeks, at least? He was like, I don't know. He's like, they asked just won the biggest tournament. You got to be happy for at least a couple weeks. A couple weeks at least?
Give me a couple weeks.
He was like, I don't know.
Yeah, he's like, they asked him before the final round.
Yeah, hopefully it takes less than four and a half hours
and I'm out of here.
It's like, all right, dude, I don't
know what your problem is.
You're kind of like turning people off.
And the whole world kind of had your back
and wanted you to win.
At least it felt like that.
Other news, breaking news,
Dan Big Cat Barstool Katz will be in attendance
in Edmonton for game seven.
I have convinced him, he's moved things around,
we need an author's victory,
we need a game seven more than anything.
Even if you're a Panthers, actually Panthers fans,
I get it, you wanna close it out and get this thing done.
The rest of the hockey world, if you hate McDavid,
if you hate the others, you still wanna game seven, right?
And you get Big Cat and Edmonton.
I just rerouted my flights to Witt,
so I'm trying to bring the positive energy for you.
So now I'll be going to game seven
and then I'll fly directly from there to Sweden.
And I had the Miami Merled outfit last time down here.
I got a special edition for the Oilers. Okay.
So I'll break that out for the game tomorrow.
I'll be boots on the ground and I'm going to try to get us the Febbing for you
with.
Thank you, Murr. I appreciate that. Um, I appreciate all you guys,
all Oilers fans look me in the eye. This thing ain't done yet.
It was going to be difficult. It was going to be hard.
Keith, I don't appreciate that.
It was never going to be said. Oilers fans look me in the eye.
Never going to be easy.
Don't give up now.
Don't have a negative attitude the rest of the day with your family.
Don't be nervous tomorrow.
I get it, but it was never going to be easy.
We got two of the best players the world's ever seen.
We are battling against a weapon of an organization against a true,
true test of championship hockey.
But we're going on the road.
We're dragging them back to Berta.
And then it's a coin flip.
Don't give up now.
Don't think it was ever going to be easy.
The first one, it's tough.
It's hard.
It's miserable.
But don't give up on me.
Look at my hat.
Look at my face.
Florida Panthers fans, get out of my face.
Leave me alone and just know, you're going to see the best effort the Edmonton owners
have ever given tomorrow night
in Florida, and we're dragging them back to Berda,
and we're going to game seven.
I don't care what Biz says, I don't care what Keith says,
I don't care what Goldie says, fuck them all.
We're bad dragging them back to Berda,
and I'm not giving up yet, I'll tell you that right now.
Love that, love that wit.
I'm going to work on it right now.
Even though it's over, I love the spirit.
I'm gonna go do a 30 minute walk on the treadmill
and 20 pushups.
Suck on that, bitch.
Thank you for watching.
Look in my eyes.
It ain't over.
Hey, we got to give a little schedule update here.
So if it does end in game six, in which it will.
Don't say that.
We'll be coming right back on live on Wednesday.
And then obviously Game Notes on Friday. If it gets extended to game seven we're gonna drop game notes on Wednesday and
then we're gonna do a live pod Friday before the game sometime. I don't know
exactly what time but we will be coming at you live probably around 10 to 11 a.m.
on Friday morning before game seven of the Stanley Cup final but
we all know that's not gonna happen so we'll see you guys on Wednesday to wrap
this bad boy up don't look at me like that wit I you but hey bitch if you
could convince if you could keep that series going in the second round we
certainly can you haven't done shit as you better get out of a man who was happening in Kane motherfucker?
Alright, game Kane coming up alright Stuart Skinner games. I believe it when I see it
Jans I'll see you for like our lunch. Love you guys. See you later. Chicklets fan. Don't give up. Don't ever give up I don't know any other way
Even if I could go away
I don't know any other way
This feeling is so hard to wait
I don't know any other way
Even if I could go away
I don't know any other way
It's feeling so hard to wait
I'll get you someday
