Me and Ryan have been officially welcomed to the jungle that is Bosul Sports.
I brought it towards the coyotes and I asked him if it was okay if I joined the Spit Chickles podcast full-time.
Ryan Whitney's got a pink Whitney out there now.
There's a fan bagger, get that on camera.
Keith Yandel, the Sank Man.
It's a full-time member.
Marley just got an assist from Chris Bates.
Whoa, we're buzzing right now.
Sank.
What is up?
everyone welcome to episode
656 of the
Spit and Chickles podcast presented by
that's right. Pinkies up
we're hearing it, we're seeing it, it's
everywhere, it's taken over
the alcoholic world, or
alcohol world, I probably should say alcoholic
world, the alcohol world. More live though.
Pinkies up,
World Cup. U.S. Open at Shinnock
today. We have Jordan
Martinuk, Taylor Hall, Jacob's
Slavin, joining today. An absolute
wagon of guests, the Stanley Cup
champs celebrating on their golf trip right now,
I believe. I'm interested to see where they're playing.
Are you itchy? I saw a picture. They're,
you know, a lot of them barefoot. They're just, they got the
cup at the ballmarker. They're living.
But so are you, the people that
are pinkies up, drinking pink with. Are you itchy
with? Like, is your fabric softener
itching you or something? I'm not itchy at all.
I was itchy for a little bit when I called
itchy from itchy to the Kahn Smyth.
And what's funny is I've got, I had
a couple tweets, you know, Marner, Kahn Smyth,
wow, it's over. And I think Keynes fans
are coming at me.
It's like, I was the only guy that picked you guys.
I was the only one on this show.
These teams,
these fan bases,
they legit think you hate their team
if you don't pick them in like in a coin flip series.
But I do love getting to see all the years of the hurricanes being ridiculed
that now their fan base is able to just,
oh yeah.
Just motherfucker the entire league.
So good for them.
They heard it for a long time.
They had to take their beatings.
And now they are the champs.
They are the ones on top.
Now they're at the yard house and Raleigh just living it up.
A couple yard beers for the boys.
Oh, yeah.
No, there's a couple of Roots Chris around there and everything.
Keith, you're in Vail.
How is that?
Great, yeah.
Beautiful, beautiful plays.
Biz, you would love it here.
I don't know if you've ever been, but the High King's scenery.
Played some golf with John Michael Isle the other day.
Oh, nice.
It was an absolute swing on JML.
A couple puck moving.
D-Man, eh?
Yeah, yeah.
And then...
How many block shots in that foursome?
Zero.
9,200 feet above sea level,
his golf courses.
It's legit at the top of the mountain.
We were hitting drives 420 yards.
Like, if it was downhill, it was insane.
The air was so...
It was awesome.
I played there once, and I do remember
they were the guy was like just add like 30 yards to every club.
Yeah.
It's crazy.
You feel like Bryson.
out there just smashing eight irons, 195 yards.
So that's pretty thick.
Did you feel it on your hike when you, oxygen-wise?
Like, would you get tired quicker?
Ripping these things.
Yeah, it's the altitude.
I don't know how these kids are playing.
What is that?
That like an inhaler for oxygen boost?
It's an oxygen boost thing you put.
Because these girls are playing three games a day, dude.
It's like, I don't know how they're doing a good thing.
They're young and young and dumb, as they say.
But they don't even know.
They don't even know they're tired at that age.
I know.
It's like when we used to play three hockey games in a day,
and you didn't even think about it.
And then all of a sudden you get to a three and three in Wilkeshire, Norfolk, and
Binghamton, and you're ready to jump out the window of the bus as it's driving along,
I-90.
Biz, very special day for you yesterday at the Wayne Gretzky hockey camp.
Oh, yeah, I got the nod.
And buddy, what a move by you.
Kind of remind everyone of who Chris was, because I saw you invited him for the day.
Yeah.
So Chris, unfortunately he's ball in right now.
He's been dealing with some cancer stuff.
And I met him because when we did the mincy, that whole mincy week here, when old
miss was playing here, when he caught his flight, Chris saved him a seat on the flight next
to him.
So he was able to like get on there.
So that's how they got linked up.
And then they found out about Chris's story.
And then we ended up bringing him to the game.
He came over here for dinner.
But his treatments have obviously continued.
Right.
So he's coming here like a couple times a month.
And like, I think his wife's only able to come.
His wife and kid are only able to come like every other month.
So every time he's here, I was like, hey, text me.
And if I'm around, like sometimes I'm not because I'm in Atlanta for playoffs or whatever it may be or traveling, doing what, whatever we're doing.
But it just so happened.
He was in town.
Gretzky hockey schools here.
I'm like, hey, come with me.
And then we ended up going over last night to grab dinner with Ty, Joey.
and Christian Fisher, actually,
who used to play for the Arizona Coyotes.
He paid for Detroit.
I think he might have played in Columbus a little bit, too,
who's retired now,
but it was a great meal, and we'll get them out,
I think, hopefully on Friday when we have all the games as well.
But he's battling boys.
He's a great, great guy.
He just had a kid, you know, beautiful wife,
and he's going to be continuing treatments out here at Mayo.
Yeah, it's like you've obviously seen Mayo here.
Like, I think other than Rochester and Minnesota, it's probably like the best facility in all the United States in order to treat cancer.
Yeah, I think there's one in Houston as well.
I forget exactly what it's called.
But yeah, that's a top tier one in Unreal by you.
Where did you take them to dinner?
We went to this, Andriolis or something it's called.
It's like a Italian.
I thought Houston's for sure.
I thought Houston's for sure.
I should have given him the Houston's treatment.
I didn't want to, I didn't want to.
I don't think he needed any extra drama.
or even throwing down some fista cuffs.
I thought we'd go to just like a tallian,
a chill Italian joint.
But what a hockey school they got going on that.
And it was fun jumping on with like I did the younger group.
And then the like the middle age group and then they have like an older group that I ended up leaving for because my feet were killing.
But I'm going back on Friday to like do all the championship games.
But man, these like young kids, man, they don't, they don't give a shit.
They don't.
Are you talking seven to ten-ish?
I think they were like the six-seven group, like six, seven-eight group of coaching kids.
And Keith's brother Brian told me before last year, so this is my second year coaching that age.
He's like, you have to be just a straight-up drill sergeant.
Oh, yeah.
You have to make it fun, but then at times I just slash them in the head and say, look at me in the eye and shut up.
And did I ever do that?
No.
That was maybe an exaggeration.
I want to put myself in a tough spot here,
but they will not listen until you legit kind of snap on them.
Okay, so like, so I was used.
When I had hockey schools growing up in my hometown,
I ended up having the coaches as my minor league coaches, right?
And they were intense in like a good way where,
hey, man, if you weren't paying attention,
like they would,
they would call you out.
I told the story on here when I went to Nancy Gruhl,
the power skating coach,
and I was chit-chatting in line.
and she's like, you're done.
Off the ice.
Walk the plank.
But you weren't six or seven then, right?
That's probably 10 and 11.
No, I was, yeah, I was probably around, yeah, probably around that age.
Okay.
Like, yeah, oh, yeah, for sure.
Because, like, it was like, you know, you line up and there's like other kids all over the ice and stuff.
You do the four lines and that's how you start out the power skating style.
And I was in talking on the lines.
And then, you know, I'm in the dressing room in my dad walks.
He's like, what are you doing?
I said, she kicked me off the ice.
And that is the scariest feeling in the world to tell your dad that.
Yeah, but nowadays, nowadays the kids' parents would be like, my baby,
you would never do that.
Your dad probably grabbed you by the ear and was like, get, let's go.
Let's go to the firehouse.
And I was just going to say, I'm thankful to my dad because he didn't go talk to Nancy
girl.
He's like, well, you better shut up next time and stop wasting everybody's time.
And I was like, okay, awesome.
So I just kind of had the approach where I was going to make sure these kids were doing
drill properly and paying attention.
And if they weren't paying attention,
they were going to drop down to give 10 pushups.
Like, I wasn't there to just push pucks around.
I was there.
Why are you laughing?
It's great.
I love that.
I don't know how many kids that age can do 10 pushups.
I love it.
It's just probably funny seeing them try to get like two.
I did say if you can't do the pushups,
you're going to be doing crunches for me.
But the drill was as they were going two on two down low.
Okay.
So the first player in line,
he had to stand there.
and be ready.
And if they got,
if one of the two teams got possession,
they could pass to him.
Once he completes a pass,
boom,
it ignites him.
And then now it's three on two down.
Great drill.
Great drill.
Great drill.
And it puts a lot of emphasis on the kid in line
because if the other team was already activated
and made it three on two,
if you're not ready and you're looking at the ceiling
and that puck goes by you and they get to keep possession,
your guys got to keep battling three on two
because you had your thumb up,
your ass, like looking up at the stands at your parents in line.
So every single kid you had to remind them, pay attention.
Like you're going to bend your knees, be ready to take a pass.
So I literally did that for like probably 45 minutes, just like telling every kid to make
sure.
But eventually I was like, you know what?
I'm going to join their team and you huddle them up and kind of make it like, we can't
lose this game.
And then when you do that and you dangle that carrot, that's when they're like, they're
all engaged.
You got to, you got to like just make them think that they're playing for something
that they're winning like a championship and keep their endorphins pumping 24, 7 every second of every day.
And throw them in the cold tub.
Yeah.
I'll tell you, Biz, you, I need you to have kids at some point.
I don't care what sport it is.
Hockey, obviously, but like I need you as a sports dad, girl or boy.
I think you'd be unreal.
Now, here's a way to go, Paul.
Way to go, Paul, as he's just suckering the other teams.
Oh, no, I would never.
I would never be that dad.
An attorney in Montreal in mid-July.
Now, Biz, here's what's funny about coaching kids.
And we'll get into the hockey stuff, but this is the fun stuff.
Girls at that age are incredible.
They were the best on the ice.
They listen to every single word.
They follow directions.
They do the drills correct.
And then you get boys and you're like, what is wrong with you?
What?
Why can't, like, the girls are, coaching girls is way more enjoyable.
a young age. They listen.
You know, you hit it out of the park with that comment because there was probably,
I would say, five or six girls that I noticed on the ice, all intuitive, all great
skaters. Like, they have a good women's program here. I know Lindsay Fry helps out with that.
But yeah, no, you hit it, you hit it on the head with that one. But it's funny you say that
because like leaving after I dropped Chris off, I'm like, damn, like I kind of want to find a breeder
and just start breeding kids.
Yeah, yeah.
I think, like, I might go the surrogate route.
I don't know, man.
I think you could find a beautiful athletic six-foot girl,
and all of a sudden you just have machines coming the next few years.
Just start.
I think it's a surrogate.
Surrogate style.
You've been talking all these years about the stalls,
the, who else do we got out there with all the kids?
The hues is.
So I think it's time for you to start your own little.
Cucks.
I think it's time for you to have your own little stable.
I met this kid Casey Mutron yesterday who's going to be I think a first round pick this year
His dad was the quarterback at Boston College you know a while back
His other brother played in the Quebec League this year from Moncton
That dad's a complete tank and then I'm meeting the 17 18 year old Casey kid who was like my height
Completely jacked I said all right this is what biz is talking about breeders the type of people that you need
To create monster super athletes okay that is it I'm also kind of convinced
that the mum has a lot to do with it.
This is something I've seen more around.
Like every stud athlete, like the mom is like big in an athlete.
So that might be, you can't just rely on you.
So I thought I was a bring.
We don't want anything with him besides like the toughness.
Yeah, toughness and maybe the drive.
He's got drive.
I don't know about the academic stuff.
I don't know about the patience.
I was good in geography.
Yeah, your mom was good in geography.
That in current events.
when I started trying because I almost failed that
and they almost sat me out.
They might get you always brain.
Yeah, but going back to that, like Teddy Purcell,
like he married that, the volleyball player.
Oh, God.
Like beautiful volleyball player, 6-1.
It might be 6-4 even.
She's taller than Teddy and he's 6-2.
Okay.
He's kind of slouched over a little bit sometimes too.
So maybe she is 6-4.
He's just laughing at something.
We got to, let's do a summer interview with him.
We've talked to him in a lot.
long time. I saw him in Montreal. He's scouting a little bit and,
and helping out with Montreal. And yeah, he's working
with Adam Oat still. He does a lot of that breaking down the tape. It was funny, he was
showing me clips and he was talking about certain teams power play and
why it struggles. I think he was mentioning like Colorado, like just
having certain handed sticks on certain sides, stuff that obviously I don't know.
I'll just teach my kid at a hike. But yeah,
no, I think should we do like a little, maybe we can
put like a list together or get some volunteers who would want to carry my baby for as far as the breeders.
Yeah, well, based on the DMs I've seen you get, there's a ton of volunteers.
There's a ton of them out there.
I know, but we need the athletic ones.
Should we do like a, should we do a combine for my kids, for my kids' mom?
That would be unbelievable.
We get 50 women.
They got to do the 40-yard dash, the vertical jump, maybe some sort of sit-up.
test, like a plank test.
And maybe...
We'll get him the Pittsburgh Penguins
test when we were the plan.
When we were there early.
Hey, wait, go over there and do push-ups.
Okay. How many did you get?
I got 300. Good job.
And then Rob Skidari's like, dude,
you're an idiot. Then you've got to
beat that next year. You never want to give a number.
You know you can't beat in case they
happen to watch one day. So
the Pittsburgh testing with, what was it,
John?
Oh, I can't think of his last name right now.
If people saw videos of that testing,
they would think it was like the third league in Switzerland
based on like how we were going about things at training camp then.
So funny enough,
can I just quickly mention Chris and it's Chris Hilliard
and he's got a charity and a GoFundMe set up.
And if you want to help him out, like you know,
him and his family are obviously struggling right now
with like some of these bills and everything that comes with
dealing with fighting for his life. So just a just a great human being, guys. Like,
whenever I'm around and he's around, like, he's just a guy that you like want to be around.
So happy, so pleasant. And he's obviously dealing with a shit sandwich right now. So we're going to root for him and he's going to keep fighting.
And, and I think the yak has done a lot to help him and his family out. So shout out to the yak and Big Cat and all the Kate and all the crew over there.
And another thing, too, is I know Mency gets a lot of flack.
I was like, hey, who do you keep up with the most from Barstool?
And he says like Mincy and Ohio,
like they reach out all the time and they're still keeping in contact with them.
So just shout out to those guys for for being good guys and,
and taking care of a guy who helped them on the way over here.
So we'll post that link on our social too,
biz.
So if you want to donate,
you can find it easily.
Yeah.
They're on Instagram.
I think I might just put them up in the Mincy room every time he comes
here instead of him staying at a hotel.
He'll end up repainting it and making it look good again.
Yeah, exactly.
I don't want that.
I need the mincy.
That gave you more resale value.
One other thing I wanted to bring up with you before we move on to more hockey is we kind of just slid by on your dunk shot on the last sandbagger.
That was a big moment in sandbagger history.
No, we talked about it because remember I mentioned how many people were like mad at us for the celebration?
Like, holy fuck, sorry for having a good time.
No, and I know, and I could sense that it upset you a little bit, and it's bullshit.
And I don't want those people online being assholes.
They don't upset me.
They don't upset me.
I've come to learn that being online is kind of a brutal part of our job.
It's fun at times.
I think back to when I first got Twitter injured.
Me and Halsey started Twitter today together, right when we were out injured, I think it was 2011, if not 12.
And it was funny.
And it was fucking just hilarious.
and it's just turned kind of gross and nasty.
Very mean, very mean-spirited.
For a guy who's gotten really, really mean things said to him for a long time now,
I'm over it.
So I can deal with it.
I can deal with it.
Now, I can admit this.
At the time when I got it, I was disgusted, I was appalled,
and it really crushed my confidence.
Is that pathetic to admit?
Maybe, but I got no problem admitting it.
Funny enough, there's a man who, I think his name's Tyler Delo.
and he was blogging
and then I think the oilers hired him
well now he's a member of the Carolina Hurricanes
he's an analytical guy
he's been very very early on to this stuff
gee make sure I'm getting the name right
Google Tyler Delo is his Twitter name
MC Hawkey 79
a tweet has resurfaced
from me from 2012
where he was he must have been carving me
because he was doing a lot of oiler stuff then
his tweet is deleted
but my response was
something like oh how do you figure that
out in between being in your basement playing
World of Warcraft in your mom's base.
Something where I was very rattled that whatever
analytic numbers he was throwing out made me look very bad.
And so my response has kind of resurfaced because a lot of
people are like, how many Stanley Cup championships
has Ryan Whitney won zero?
Tyler Delo has won.
He's ended up doing a hell of a job.
The guy knows what he's doing at the time.
He was very mean to me.
Probably deserved it with my play.
But that was back when I was sensitive Twitter, Ryan.
And now I'm just like, carve me.
I don't really care.
I got three kids who love me an amazing wife,
and I get to play golf at decent amount while talking to my friends about hockey.
So I've been able to overcome the Twitter beat downs.
And in terms of holding a shot, I think it was 152 yards playing uphill into the wind.
Whenever Keith hits an eight, I hit a seven.
Keith hits a five, I hit a four.
Keith hit an eight.
It was there, but a touch short.
I think it was just in the rough, maybe just in the green.
I think we thought it was close.
Yeah, we might have.
We might have.
But our guy, who's our guy?
that does the approaches at the sandbaggers.
Rawley fingers.
Yeah.
Nate.
Nate dog.
Yeah, Raleigh fingers.
He doesn't really give you a little clap or breakdown unless it's money.
So then I took the seven and what do you know we got to witness something that may never
happen again in a sandbagger.
Unfortunately, I dunked the next shot in the water.
That sucks.
But Keith stuck the next shot on a part of three and we ran away with the match against the three champ.
So I want to say thank you to anyone who did say nice shot online or who said.
saw me this weekend and said nice shot wit and
I appreciate you.
I think I've asked you. I think I asked you last pod,
that was your first dunk from the fairway?
No, I've done that. I've done that a couple
times. I think I've done that four times now.
For part four. Pretty sick when you do it on
camera when you have. Yeah. It's Nate
Silverman. He's actually, I think he lives in Atlanta,
actually. He's a great guy. Beauty. Beauty.
Great mustache. And the fact that we get those approach shots.
I mean, we, we, I feel like we're on the fuck
we're better than live golf at this point.
Yeah, I don't even know
Live golf is done.
In a week, I have no idea.
Wait, how many
holeouts from 152 yards
does Tyler Delo have?
Imagine he replies. He's like, I have seven this.
He's like, I got four holes in one.
On camera.
I have four hole ones and I never lied to my grandpa
about it. It's like you delete Twitter.
We never see it again.
Oh, my God.
We got a tall skis.
His kids don't like them anymore.
Tulsa.
all of a sudden everything i said i have
everything i said that i have that keeps me confident and loving life
it's just gone because i'm just getting carved again by tyler delo but hey show up
you see yoshi running around business house
no no hard feeling i got my dog back the guy has hey i got my kids it's me and brie and i got
the kids hey hey hey hey hey hey buddy i it you won't have yoshi you won't have yoshi okay that
Okay.
You take Rider Wyatt, Calgary.
I'm keeping Yoshi because that's one thing I know you don't have is a dog.
And you've had seven.
You know what you don't got?
A banana, man.
True.
Or a covered wagon.
Now, in terms of hockey world talk, we've got the hurricanes come on, so we'll save it for them.
I got a kick out of the end-season press conference for the Vegas gold lights and Kelly McGriff.
This guy's electric.
He's electric.
And before I had seen his press conference,
I'd seen Jack Eichel say, like, yeah,
I guess everyone, you know,
there's a lot of noise out there about us being the bad guys.
And I don't remember exactly what he said,
but he goes, we're not on anyone's no trade list,
which kind of cracked me up because that's a fact.
And then McCriman, one of the things he said,
he goes, people are uncomfortable admitting we do a hell of a job.
And it's like, the guy's right.
I don't agree with that.
I don't think any of us or anybody who said that their cutthroat are uncomfortable admitting that they're unbelievable.
I think a lot of fan bases out there like hate them.
But you,
but you got to admit they're doing a good job.
Yeah,
I don't know if everyone does.
Oh,
fuck.
Well,
I mean,
like those are the same ones fucking chirping you on Twitter about your dunk shot.
They're fucking morons.
I think a lot of the people are like,
yeah,
no state tax.
They were gifted us a great team.
of being an expansion.
There's a lot of excuse making
with Vegas haters out there.
I know, but if they are who they are.
Okay.
If we're having a full length conversation,
you can't deny that the expansion rules,
the new ones,
which I think they've adjusted since then,
or at least teams have adjusted from it,
they benefited Vegas more than they have
any other expansion team
in the history of our sport.
Now, them taking advantage of it
and exploiting it and being prepared for that,
that's a different thing.
That's a tip of the cap to go into the Stanley Cup final in your first year of existence
by creating this band of misfits.
And then having other teams give you unreal assets to protect in some cases,
ones that didn't even end up delivering for them in the long run.
So that I just, it feels like it's become a little bit of a sensitive topic for them,
which is surprising because it's like, who fucking cares?
Just ignore the outside noise.
Like, is there any real mainstream media going after them?
them? No. It's just peasants
online like us. Maybe me
but but I admit
but I admit they're just great.
Great. All we do is
fucking glaze them and and
lawless in some cases has
defend or we got we got the boys on here so
we need to move quick but I don't know
if we're going to be able to roll some of the clips
afterward from this press conference but I know
that these guys don't give a shit and they don't want to hang
around for that so should we just move on
to the guys? Yeah yeah yeah. We can chat about this later
if we need to. We could chat about the losers later
Why don't you bring in two Stanley Cup champs, one former, just very, very, very young rookie when Whitty met him?
Taylor Hall and Jordan Martinuk, bring him in, bring him in.
Let me get the mug, he just said.
What a statement.
Let me get the mug.
Marty, first off, where are you guys?
I don't really know where we are, to be honest, his Vegas voice.
We're in the middle of nowhere.
Two and a half hours outside of Raleigh.
You got a bus trip back there.
That's a view.
It's pretty sick, actually.
Wow.
Holy shit.
So how's it going, buddy?
Raising Kane's appearance out there.
Spetchy took all the money from him.
Bet she did?
Spetch.
He can golf?
Russians can't golf?
No, the Raising Cains.
No, the Raising Cains, buddy.
But he gets the ladies to show up, too, though.
He's a handsome bastard.
Yeah.
No offense, Marty.
Can you guys hear us okay?
Yeah, can you hear us?
Great.
Perfect.
So, Halsey, I got to ask you, when I picked Ottawa, I think you sent me some, like,
some crying, laughing emojis.
And you're right after the sweep, like, hey, buddy, good pick.
And then all of a sudden, I hear from you again, Yan's picked Philly.
So you have a lot of things you could say to us to really just, I'm to remind everyone how stupid we are.
But you guys are, I just like, the Ottawa one, like, that was a trendy pick.
I think that that's okay.
But like, Jan's, no disrespect to Philly,
but like, how do you watch hockey and pick Philly?
I was just trying to light a fire under your ass.
They had a great year, but like,
there's no way we were losing to Philly.
No, there was no chance you were losing to Philly.
No chance.
But in the end, there was no chance you were losing Ottawa.
And there was certainly, certainly no chance
you were losing to Montreal.
So, Biz, did you?
you ever pick against them? So I didn't want to mush you guys in the finals and I figured if I
jumped on Vegas that I could help take them down. So you're welcome. I picked you guys through the
first three rounds and I just, you know, I got to see you guys play a little bit this year and
believed in you guys. And I'm just really happy you guys got it done, man. It just felt like you
guys had such a strong bond in that locker room. And I'm just really, really happy for you,
boys. Well, you guys are like kind of honorary canes. Like you own a team.
You point we own point five percent of your East Coast team. So you guys are part of it.
Yeah, we were hoping actually now that some good glue guys come up in the system.
Yeah. Yeah, we were actually going to hope that you guys can maybe play a few games down in the,
in the coast so we don't finish dead last again and maybe even donate some of your
playoff fun to the players so we don't go on strike again next year.
if you guys don't mind.
Sounds good, man.
All right.
What's your guys is playing with the mug, as you called it,
for the next couple days?
We're doing, I think today it might be a recovery day.
I need a day of rest.
I need to see my family at some point,
so that'll be today.
And then tomorrow we're having a pool party at Jordos,
his castle.
And then Saturday we got the parade.
I think parade's going to be awesome.
I can't wait for that.
Where are they doing it?
Downtown.
I think.
Yeah.
Palti,
I got to ask you this one because I texted you,
you won the fucking Stanley Cup.
How so real is that?
And you said, buddy,
it's even better than I imagined.
Like,
kind of explain that.
Yeah.
I mean,
it's just,
I don't know,
it doesn't even feel real.
Like,
from this right now is like,
you know,
it's,
just an incredible year
and like such a close team
like we had we had nights out this year
where it's like every single guy's there
like just we're like a really
really close group
and uh and I think the way we did it
you know like 16 and 3
in the playoffs that's pretty
that's pretty awesome so
can't believe you need Philly
I hope I don't get in trouble for that
I want like I hope that's not disrespectful
no you believed in your group no
fucking
No. Not a little.
Yeah, man.
Like, it was, it was pretty, and you know what?
Like, it's kind of cool to collect receipts now, right?
Like.
I just mentioned your fan base is doing that.
Your fan base has the right to be crushing people right now.
Yeah.
Even after, like, the first game of Montreal, obviously our Eastern Conference final, all that
stuff.
And it was that first game.
And we knew we were going to beat Montreal, too.
Yeah, we just, like.
But he gets on the horn and they're like, oh, they can't win, they can't win.
And then just a gentleman sweep.
You guys were like, we need some money for us, bro.
If we can go back to that.
Tom wanted another home date.
We needed to charge 80 bucks for parking.
We need one more home receipt.
So, yeah.
If we can go back to that Eastern Conference final game one, was it just a layoff?
Like, it was just kind of like the timing was off.
You needed to get back into it.
I think so.
The game felt like a million miles an hour, man.
Like just being off for that amount of time.
After the Ottawa series, we were off for six days,
and that didn't feel too bad.
But like day seven, eight, nine of that 12-day break,
I, like, I could tell I lost my game.
Oh, yeah.
You just lose how sharp you are.
Yeah.
So that was hard.
But I think by the end, though, like,
I, like, have no bumps and bruises.
Like, that we're so rested because we had those sweeps in one.
not. I think that really helped us in the end.
I got one for Marty here.
Marty, I think that when, when Dundon bought the team, you were the first trade that was made after he purchased it.
And you were one of the longest tenure guys there.
Like, just like how proud of you what you guys have been able to build and how proud are you at the fact that you've been able to be there the whole time and kind of see it through and go through all those down periods where you guys weren't able to get past the Eastern Conference final.
but to then now hoist it with all the boys.
Yeah, and it sucks that it took this long,
but honestly, like, good things take time.
And it is worth it.
Like, if it's gratifying and knowing that I've been here for the whole,
whole time.
And there's times I thought about that I was maybe not going to be here,
but I just couldn't imagine leaving and then they do this without me.
Like, that would have ripped my heart out.
So just so happy that we could do it here.
And it's been like this has been so cool.
Like just like showing up to places and not like yesterday we went to like this little sports bar after our exit medicals.
And like the joy that it brings people is that's the coolest.
And look on their faces when they see the thing is so cool.
Yeah.
Yeah, let's hear you hold it.
Well, Halsey, I got one for you.
And Witt brought.
this up last podcast we did.
I remember we interviewed you in Chicago,
and it just felt like you were kind of like in a tough spot, right?
Like you obviously still love the game,
but you were in a difficult team.
I think you were a healthy scratch.
Oh, no, we've got to blow up, doll.
But like, just talk about the turnaround and like,
and what coming to that group's meant to you
and obviously getting where you're at now.
Paulz, you got scratched by the worst team in the league.
Yeah, man.
I mean, I saw you guys shortly after that, and that was like, I don't know, I still felt I could play, but you just got to find the right situation.
And I came here and I was like, I could tell the way that we played that was going to fit my game.
And then like just the closeness of the team and Roddy and the coaching staff, it was like, I could just tell it was going to be good.
So I'm pumped.
I'm pumped about it.
Sorry, we're getting on the bus, boys.
We've got to get back to Raleigh him.
Oh, you guys are fine, man.
Say hi to all the boys for us
while you go by with your phone if that's all right.
I got one question for you, Marty.
Yeah.
Last one.
I'm sure as a kid you dreamed of having the Stanley Cup,
what's one thing you plan on doing with that thing?
I don't even know, man.
I took a second to blink about
what's going to happen when I go home with it.
But I don't know.
I think, like, it's seeing your family with it on the ice, like, after, like, that, like, was the cool.
It's so cool.
Like, to know, like, every, like, there's taking the village for playing it on them.
Then to win it and see the people that, like, met me and the most to you, how happy they are for you, but how happy it makes them.
Like that feeling is,
can't describe it.
Watching like my kid,
like knowing my son is going to remember this,
like he's old enough that he's going to remember this.
I said it to him before playoffs.
I was like,
buddy,
I want to win this thing so bad,
but I know you're going to remember this too.
And like him being on the ice and
seeing, like, it's the coolest feeling in the world.
Amazing.
So well deserved, buddy.
Who's that?
Yeah, we can do you love.
This guy's had a,
this guy's had a cellie.
Heelow.
Sime song.
Not bad, hey kids?
That boy.
Not bad, eh, kids?
This guy's put on a performance.
I don't know how much longer we have with you here.
The one other thing I want to ask you about is getting put on a line with Stanky and Blake.
What a fucking line you guys had throughout the whole run.
People were maybe doubting the fact that Stank could do it in playoffs and be a second line center.
How big of a dog are those two guys?
dude, they're unreal.
Like the way they play and how hard they play and they play the right way.
Like they love forechecking.
Like you don't,
I don't want to say you don't see that anymore,
but it's like it's the right way to play.
And it's so cool to see young kids that like just have that work ethic in their game.
And I'm so happy for them, man.
Like I think the sky is the limit for them.
Like Olympic teams and all this stuff.
Like I have, you know,
I have really high hopes for those guys.
guys and they're great kids too.
We were looking at Stanky's Hockey
DB. He's got 180
games and like 59 plus
game. It's insane.
Gamer.
Yeah, that's awesome.
Halsey, did you ever super vet him? Will you like, get me
the fucking pot?
What?
Did you ever super vet him?
I'm wide open to the slot. Find me.
No, I didn't say.
I think they do that to Halsey.
They kind of run my
They kind of run my show, honestly.
Okay, so it's like you running my show in Edmonton.
Yeah, I'm like, boys, I didn't really say much to them.
I didn't ever want to like overcoach them or whatever.
Like they just were on it.
So I didn't need to do much, you know?
Yeah.
Paul Z, last one for me.
I know you've had a few coaches in your NHL career.
Anything compared to Rod?
No.
No, he should be a Hall of Fame.
man this guy's unreal he's just to like the whole coaching staff too really is awesome i can't like
our pk everything that uh like everyone contributed that they had everyone dialed in and and roddy's
roddy's the main piece of that obviously well i know your boys are getting on the bus congrats to both
you guys you're the man halsey so happy for you we'll talk to you soon marty you're the best
Thanks, boys.
Take it easy on that blowup ball.
Okay.
See you, boys.
Thanks, boys.
Boys.
It's very funny that after we have the Stanley Cup awarded out each year, we get a couple guys.
And they're just always just mid-bender rip.
Remember the Panthers last year in the pool?
I mean, we got them for two seconds.
I got to see Marshaas Pecker for two seconds.
I think Marshall just flipped us off.
And then I was like, see you, boys.
Yeah, that was.
We got a little bit better there.
They also, they were partying a little harder, I would say, to be fair.
Yeah.
A little.
You think so?
I mean, did you hear Marty's voice?
I think they're partying.
It might not be as a scene, but they must be doing some stuff behind the scenes.
Well, Deloria, I mean, I'm surprised he could talk.
He just yelled Sank and said, not bad, boys, and walked away.
I didn't even know who that was.
I saw the beard.
I'm like, is that a trainer when we're in the distance?
I thought it was going to be the analytics guy.
Dello.
Yeah, Della.
That's so good.
I thought it was the guy who protects the cup.
Holy shit, man.
Yeah, but I guess the conversation of Brindamore in the Hall of Fame.
So apparently, like, you go in as a player or you go in as an executive, like,
who gives a fuck?
Just put him in the Hall of Fame.
Figure it out.
Like, I'm so like, gotty, come on.
Yeah, look, why do you need to have an actual, like, description of why you're in the
Hall of Fame?
If you're a Hall of Fame or within the game, no matter what you're,
doing within the game, put him in.
I would say that this gives him a pretty good chance.
I would hope.
I would say that this Stanley Cup as a head coach makes him easily in a class of his own
as the biggest snub not in the Hall of Fame right now.
I would say that under him, you could probably put Walt.
Walt is in, he's in the top four.
If you want to do like a little Mount Rushmore of biggest Hall of Fame snubs as of right now.
Because Mo Gilney was the big one, but he's in now.
He's in.
So he's in.
And he wouldn't even, he still didn't go to the, the, he didn't go to the induction, but he's in.
That's all it matters.
Just get the guy in.
Brindonick caught in, Biz.
No, I said that.
I said Rona got in.
He was up there.
Yeah.
Brindamore played 1484 regular season, 159 playoffs.
He's got a cup.
He's got over 1,100 points.
He's got over 100 playoff points.
And then he got a cup as a coach.
So how many goals?
He's got two Selkees.
He has a Jack Adams.
He's 452 goals.
Buddy, he's the biggest snub hands down.
There's not even, come on.
Like, it's the number, he's number one slot.
How many goals does Walt have, though?
Yeah, a little over 500, but like, no Stanley Cup, not holding that against them.
But, like, he's got, Brindamore might have a hundred less goals.
He's got Jack Adams, Selky trophies.
Stanley Cup is a coach as a player.
like what else do you want this fucking guy to do?
Do you want him to be lead commissioner?
And then he can get in?
The crazy thing about Brindamore is when they won it in 06,
I knew that was near the end of his career.
He played four more seasons after that.
And the last two years he played,
he played 80 games both years.
Now, I thought, like,
think of how much of a machine you have to be
to be considered kind of an old captain as you win it.
And, I mean, he played,
like longer than you and I did
but it's almost after that cup.
So it's...
With the lockout?
No, the lock, no.
No, he didn't.
Oh, the lockout was the year before.
The locko was the year before.
Oh, okay.
Um, where he played two games in Switzerland had two goals.
So add that to the Hall of Fame resume.
Yep.
Right?
Swiss league, two goals, two games.
That's not bad.
So incredible.
I mean, Jacob Slavin, is he on that trip with M.G?
He must not.
He is. Yeah, I was told he is.
All right.
So somehow we're getting him.
If they're all on the bus.
right now and he's supposed to come on 30 minutes.
I don't know how that's going to work,
but maybe he'll be doing it from the bus.
I don't think he goes as hard as the other guys.
No.
As far as the booze is my understanding.
I would guess that's that.
So I don't know if his Vegas voice will be as bad,
but who knows, right?
You never know what you're going to get with these guys
after they win a Stanley Cup.
Sometimes they go a little unhinged and fall off the wagon.
Well, I hope they, I hope on their little golf excursion,
they were wearing rowback.
The weather's turned in North Carolina,
And in Boston, it's beautiful.
Roeback has dropped the new heat.
First, the Robax medley swim trunks.
Roeback said we do everything else.
Why not water?
These things are amazing.
Quick dry, four-way stretch, built-in liner that is so comfortable.
You don't need to get rid of it.
You know, the kids don't like the liner.
This liner's incredible.
They go from the 19th hole to the dock without missing a beat.
Game 7 energy all summer long.
Or game 6 energy will change this ad read too.
And the lightweight looper shorts.
These are the go-toes for me.
The gym short fabric you love in the looper model, you already know.
stretch waistband, belt loops, comfortable lightweight fabric.
These are the shorts you wear to watch the overtime winner
and not have to change before you go celebrate.
Basically, if you want to be dressed as well as the boys, hoisting the cup,
playing golf in Carolina, rollback.com is where you go.
R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com.
Use coat chicklets for 20% off your first purchase through the end of the week.
I'm very excited for this time of year, all right?
We saw a trade yesterday, Biz.
You're old club.
Yeah, so it seems like we're kind of moving on a little bit.
did we want to finish the Vegas conversation at all?
You're right.
I forgot about that.
Well,
also like,
Ryan Craig,
they have a new coach.
I don't know if you guys have logged on to Twitter much.
I feel like it's kind of crazy how much of the Marner conversation has even still gone on past this.
Like,
do you guys see the Kippen Borencho like,
Yan's you're shaking your head.
Are you saying no,
you don't pay attention or yet or like no as in like it's fucking crazy how much people
want to talk about it?
Yeah,
I think it's crazy how much they want to talk about it.
It's like let this guy move on.
I don't understand it.
Yeah.
That's kind of what I was going to talk about.
Like I just wanted to give our two cents.
Like, listen, this guy had an unbelievable playoff run and obviously loves the new play
season.
I just think that it's time to let this guy go be.
Like he talked a little bit in the postseason press conference just about his mental
health and where he was at as a Toronto Maple Leaf.
And it just, it wasn't a good place for him.
He needed to move on and get a new change of scenery in a place where he was going to go
be happy out of the Toronto media spotlight.
So I just, I just can't understand.
Like, there's a lot of things that can be true.
And maybe he didn't perform the way that he did in these playoffs with Toronto really ever.
A lot of people want to talk about like, well, they never had a team as good as that.
I think we can all agree on that as well.
But I think that the biggest component to this is like after this run specifically,
just let this guy go be happy.
Let him go fucking flourish in Vegas.
The Toronto days are over.
Let's stop drawing it back to that.
I know there was a few times where even they spoke up on it, even Kelly McCriman after the conference final, he kind of was like, I think, you know, it's like the jealous ex-girlfriend.
Like, let's just move on here.
And I think he hit the nail on the head.
So I know that there's a lot of people in Toronto and Toronto media that like obviously they got bills to pay and they need to keep talking about it because it does drive engagement in traffic.
But at the end of the day, let's just let this guy be and, and congratulate him on what could have been a, a conundated.
my victory, I still would have been okay with him getting it if he would have got it
despite the loss.
I do think that it being the first year and then the run he went on and the Golden Knights,
I can't imagine it's the same thing moving forward.
I refuse to think that it's going to be continually brought up there because it was just
so new.
And then to do what he did after the playoff failures in Toronto, the first year gone, I get
why it was such a big point of discussion.
And even after how it looked like they kind of had that series.
All of a sudden they lose.
The discussion comes back because people have been waiting to hear that he said he'd talk about things more in depth if they won.
He still mentioned the mental health.
I saw that press conference biz.
And yeah, at this point, next year, Toronto's got a new coach.
Toronto's got the first overall pick.
I don't think it's going to be the same now.
It was just this year that was going to be the major point of discussion.
And then when they go on that run, it's like, all right, this is going to be the number one topic in Canada,
let alone like kind of the whole hockey world.
Yeah, I mean, I'm more look at Vegas now, like, torts isn't back.
And McCriman said in the press conference, he actually said he wanted to coach us.
I was like, oh, but we want to go with Ryan Craig, who's been coaching in Henderson.
He was an assistant when they were the original misfits as the organization began and became a new team in the league.
I guess there was discussion that they didn't want to bring them in when they fired Cassidy.
So it seems like no matter what, they knew he was going to be the coach to start 26, 27.
seven but at that time like it's hard to give a guy's first coaching role in the league with whatever
it was eight games to go trying to get into the playoffs so i get that oh buddy it's a no brainer like
i think yans you mentioned it like maybe they would have consulted hanafin and icel but at least
they had just won a gold medal with them so like two of your biggest components to your core
leadership group they're automatically just comfortable with a guy who's been there done that one of
stanley cup coach many years and i i in honest like
It was probably like the best plug and play you could have ever picked.
I know we didn't think of his name and we were surprised when that happened and like the internet went crazy.
But another unreal job by Pinky and the brain, once again, all respect to you guys, no shade whatsoever.
We don't want you attacking us, Kelly.
It was a great, great plug and play and fair to not put that coach in that situation.
Like it would have probably been a little bit over his head.
And if they would have fizzled out, all of a sudden you're dealing with Chris.
and you're behind the eight ball, which I don't know if you guys follow Vegas, Twitter.
They're also pretty ruthless.
Like they are a very spoiled fan base from the beginning.
So when things aren't going well, they are extremely vocal.
They're not the southern market that's just grateful to have a team.
They're the like, oh, this guy had a bad half of season.
Find a way to get them off the fucking ship.
Let's go.
It's the Sin City busy.
I mean, I don't really, you can't really blame them.
They've just been unreal since they.
became a team. It's like, they don't even understand down years and dealing with watching a team
build and grow. They're just like, we're nasty every year. But my pushback to Kelly and the
pinky and the brain situation and the evil villains would be, we're not uncomfortable pumping
your tires and saying that you've made very bold, hard decisions in order to be successful,
but in the same breath also like, you're not loyal. Like you can't look me in the face and tell me
you're loyal because like we've seen we've been around for this we're talking about a hall of fame
goaltender that you guys stabbed in the back no problems no questions asked see you later out
the door how about marcia's show like he's like quince the con smite and see you buddy they don't
they they've approached things in a certain way and i do think other teams fan bases are jealous
of how they approach it and it's it is similar to like the patriots dynasty with belichick where like
They would get rid of guys early as opposed to like holding on to him and waiting.
And then they just kept doing it and doing it and doing it.
And fans are like, wow, it's hard to see my favorite player go.
But he is approaching the back nine or is there now.
We're not paying him.
See you later.
We got a younger guy in to do the same type thing.
So did you see...
Until it doesn't work for them, they're going to continue to do what they're doing.
Did you see the stat biz that...
So the cup has been handed out in T-Mobile Arena three times now.
to Washington, to Vegas, and to Carolina.
I believe that's more than any other building in the NHL has had the cup hand out.
I said that last podcast, like in their short existence,
they've seen three-handed, three Stanley Cops handed out.
I didn't know that it was, well, obviously because the old Edmonton building,
I think that Edmonton won.
And obviously Montreal's the building.
I think, I think Edmonton won it all four at home.
Really?
I think they want, they want a messieres without Greta.
was on the road in Boston.
Right.
All the ones with Wayne were, I believe, at home.
Yeah.
Yeah, pretty wild.
I mean, imagine trying to talk to them on a podcast a couple days after.
Oh, my God.
Good luck.
Good luck.
So I'm trying to think of other buildings that would have seen two.
I feel like Pittsburgh always won on the road.
They won all of them.
Pit one in, yeah, Crosby didn't win one on the road.
Chicago? Or at home, you mean.
Crossbeat and win one at home.
And Lemieux, 91, 92.
I know one of them was on the road.
Yeah, I think both of all five of Pittsburgh's Cups have been on the road.
This one's sad.
Boston's seen two of them handed out both two away teams.
Yeah, so Boston, oh my God.
Yeah, and Boston was in van.
Chicago got the first one in Philly.
They got their second one in Boston,
and they got their third one at,
I think that one was at home.
Oh,
imagine that,
the triple crowned of the whole.
Against the family.
The one that Kane scored that nobody else knew,
that was on the road.
Philly.
It was in Philly.
Yeah.
That was in Philly.
Just,
yeah,
when he was playing the net,
and everybody was confused.
And I don't think anybody knew it went in other than him.
What else were we going to talk about quickly?
Well,
we had one.
I did,
I did want to mention quickly.
this was, I almost, you brought up Stankov and Blake to Halsey,
but there was a clip online of Jeff Marrick's show.
He was interviewing Eric Tulski.
Buddy, that was after I was on there talking about the rant.
And he was, he ended up popping up on the side screen.
And I was just like, what is this guy doing?
Like, he didn't know.
He didn't have this guy locked up.
Like, I didn't care.
I was even like, oh, I see, I see him there.
I said, bring him in.
And Merrick's like, no, like, no.
I don't want you talking to him.
No.
You're like, I've called him the sexiest man in the Carolinas.
I can talk to him.
I want to say it to his face.
Now, interestingly, though, in the interview.
A while ago.
What?
That clip was from last season, I believe.
Yeah, it was when the rain was.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, so that I didn't realize that the tweet says he's coming on at 1.30.
So that must have been an old clip.
Old clip, buddy.
That was, yeah, that was right after the Rottenant trade when he ended up scrambling
and then getting Stankovin for Rottenant.
But they're bringing their receipts, man.
But did you see what he said?
and who the first guy in the organization was to bring up that it was the video coach in Carolina.
And he said, this guy's just a Carolina hurricane.
There's no other way to describe it.
That's pretty sick.
Sick.
Then I saw other rumblings that they could have had Jason Robertson but chose Stankhoven.
A lot of responses to that were like, there's no way that's true.
But honestly, with the way they play, like, I wouldn't be that shocked.
I would not have wanted Robertson if I was a Carolina hurricane.
I don't know if he has the pace.
I just totally.
Stankhoven is a fucking hurricane.
The way that he plays, it's perfect.
Like it makes total sense that if they did choose him,
they chose him for the reason because he plays exactly how they want their forward.
If I ever meet Tulski,
I will walk up to him and I will shake his hand and I will say,
I am sorry for ever having this much doubt in you, ever.
When it comes to Ron and any move ever,
that guy deserves full praise because he took his fair share of shrapnel
after that whole thing went down.
and probably a lot of criticism
like we've talked about before.
Oh, they don't have a superstar.
They don't have this.
Oh, they got to do.
Like, it's just been relentless.
And he's stuck through it the entire time.
And that organization has been loyal to their guys and gotten it done.
Quickly, gee, Boston won at home in 70.
That Bobby Orgole was in Boston.
Yeah, but that's a different arena.
Different arena.
Arena.
Arena.
I was just thinking because my dad said he had tickets to the game,
but his Mother's Day and my grandfather made him go to Mother's Day brunch,
did let him go.
And then the kids that he was going to the game with,
if you watch the Stanley Cup celebration or running around with like Johnny Busek
as he's carrying the cup,
kids from Winchester.
He always is like,
I should have been in that.
I should be in that video.
But that's almost as bad as Goodwill hunting when the guy didn't go to the game.
Yeah, but he met his wife.
He met his wife.
He stayed with his wife.
I got to see about a girl, buddy, all-time line.
Um, the other clip.
The NHL tweeted.
Doesn't agree with you.
The NHL tweeted a video yesterday of Stalzy hugging Kianre Miller on the ice.
I hadn't seen.
He's like, buddy, you got us over the hump.
Like you were, you were the missing.
You were the final piece.
And the way he played, I got a, I got a kick out of that clip because, yeah, I mean,
that guy was just kind of tortured by Rangers fans, always looking for more.
When is he going to turn to him?
Scumbag fans.
He thought.
He goes to Caroline and he was incredible.
So, um, it's kind of funny how, uh, the Fugazi call is, is real, looking real good right now.
Which one?
Top to bottom.
Just the Rangers, how they're the Fugazis.
Yeah.
They don't, they don't know how to assess talent.
They keep trading away all the good players when they think they're bad.
All the fans are running those guys out of town.
Like fucking Fugazis, baby.
Nobody wants to play in the big apple anymore.
Um, I'm interested to see what Carolina does this summer.
They don't have to do anything.
They got everyone.
Buddy, I don't know, though.
No, you got to go make, you got to figure, yeah, you always got to up your game.
And then there's, G in the outline says, per David Pagnoda, the hurricanes believe that
Elias Pedersen would thrive with the change of scenery and within Carolina's system.
That's, that's kind of crazy.
I mean, I mean, I don't know where that comes from asking about, can he play with their pace?
they already have their two I mean they have three great centers so I don't know it's weird my question is is how much longer you think stalls he's gonna play he's 38 I mean I mean based on what we just saw it's not anytime soon he's gonna be done unless he chooses like all right you know what else do I've left to do my kids are getting a little bit older I don't know I do not look at him as like oh man he's really gonna be coming to the end here no I just I bet if you're I bet I bet I bet if you're
I bet if they lost, then he'd be more likely to retire in the next year or two.
But now that they won, he's like, fuck it, I'll play a couple more years till the wheels fall off.
I just think Pedersen needs to get brought to like a good culture and a good team and somewhere where he's going to fit in.
I keep beating the Detroit Red Wings drum.
I just, because the amount of Swedes they have there.
And I just think that it would be a great organization and a change, like the change of series.
And they're going to have to replace Larkin's spot if they do get rid of them.
We all know Larkin's not going to Vancouver.
I'm curious to know if they could work out like a three-way trade.
But speaking of teams that actually need Pedersen,
I think that Detroit is a top three on the list, no?
Yeah.
But you said good culture.
Like the Detroit Red Wings captain is asking for a trade.
Yeah, well, but I also think that like, like I believe in Marit Cider.
I believe in like Sandine Pelica.
like they have a great
Raymond.
Raymond.
He's Swedish.
I don't know.
With Larkin demanding a trade out,
I don't know how long the Brinkett's going to want to stay there now.
So maybe there's a way to like package them, send them over.
Like, I don't know.
I'll tell you, based on how incredible Elias Pedersen was,
I refuse to give up on him.
And I'm going to be, that'll be one of my, wherever he,
ends up this summer because I'm pretty sure
he's not going to be on the Canucks next year.
Like that's something I'm so
interested. I really believe that there's
still a fucking player. I'm rooting for him.
I want that guy to be good.
I think he's still going to be good. And if you get
somewhere else, I'm
telling you, I still believe you got
an 80 to 90 point guy.
I mean, based on what he was and what
we saw, how the hell could that
just completely disappear? Get to a
new spot, more players
to play with, maybe not
having to be the number one guy
and let's see what happens. So
that's a storyline. Buddy,
I, he's,
in my opinion, he's
the same as Darnell.
If, if a new team picks him up and
Vancouver's eaten a quarter of
his salary, nobody's talking
about Pedersen when he's making eight and a half million
bucks. Nobody.
Nobody. Same with Darnell,
which, I mean, I don't know where the hell
he's going to land.
The darnel thing was funny
that it came out that they were
doing they were going to ask him to wave and then he came out requesting a trade it's like
I think they already said that but yeah that's just getting ahead of it he gets to give his teams
now uh Toronto they make their coaching hire the article I read in the athletic said that
there was up to 55 candidates I don't know if that was a typo but we had heard 20ish
and then Jim Hiller kind of comes out of nowhere like not a name that I don't I didn't think of him
I never saw his name written anywhere.
I don't know.
Like I was surprised.
Although I did look back.
And those L.A. teams, obviously people bring up the fumbles and the challenge and the playoffs.
But they were very good defensively.
That's something Toronto is just not good at.
You know, this past year they were brutal defensively.
I kind of get it.
I'm interested to see now he coached under Babcock in Toronto.
So he knows Matthews.
He knows Nealander.
he could have McKenna there.
I don't know if offensively
his teams have ever been high scoring,
but in terms of defense,
like that's something that Toronto wanted to address
and Chica went and got their guy.
Well, he's been in Toronto before as an assistant, right?
Yeah.
So, right.
Yeah.
So you know what the market, you mean?
Yeah, I, um,
yeah, obviously,
recency,
like, recency bias and memory is like the,
the meltdown in L.A.
and how that was all handled.
But I was just more, I guess, a little underwhelmed being like,
oh, man, I thought they were going to try to make a big splash
and or like come in with something new where it's like,
oh, you got this young coach that might connect with the players.
And I don't know, it just feels like we're back to the old cycle
or rehiring all the older guys.
And I don't know if this is, like, who knows?
Like, I don't know if like they consulted with Austin about this or he knows
Austin.
I'm curious to know, like, if Austin,
wasn't aware of it, what his reaction would have been to this.
And like, oh, well, great, a defensive-minded coach who maybe doesn't really thrive
offensively in his systems, like they kind of just had that, right?
They just dealt with that.
I think that they want a little bit of change of pace as far as the way that they play,
more puck moving, more distribution from their defensemen.
So I don't know, I guess the one word I could use is underwhelmed.
Yeah.
I think it's also one of those things.
You can't judge it till you see what he does.
I mean, you got to give him a shot.
Yeah.
See what he does. Do you, when you think of the Toronto Maple Leafs,
you would think that they're going to come out with a guy like a Babcock,
a big name guy.
And then when you see his name, not a huge name,
but he's been there.
He's familiar with the guys, some of the guys that are on that team.
And I forget who was saying it in the group chat, maybe Army.
They said he's like a really good talker,
so I'm sure he had a great interview.
So I don't know.
I think you've got to give this guy a little bit of a chance,
see how the team starts.
And if not, then we can really drop the hammer.
on them for sure in terms of underwhelming though biz i get it because once elliott had dropped the
pevelsky name it was like oh okay like that's that's more exciting in terms of like fans being
like all right like yeah he's never coached but played a long time recently and yeah i guess going
back like the old boys club type thing that was that was probably the part where people are like oh
really like that's that's our guy but who are his assistants has
Who are his assistants?
DJ Smith was one of his assistants in L.A.
Who was the head coach in Ottawa before that?
Was Newell Brown there?
Newell was the, he's a great P.P. coach.
Great guy.
I love him.
Yeah, a hell of a power play guy.
Unbelievable.
So actually, I got a pretty heated call from Sean Avery, who wants to come back on the podcast the other day.
I wouldn't exactly say he had the best takes the last time we were on, especially about
Carolina and their depth.
That could have been maybe the worst take of all of playoffs.
But his frustration was in the rehiring of all the, like the recycling of the coaches where
he's like, why can't a guy like Scotty Gomez get a chance or like these younger?
Now, I would love to see Scotty at one time as a head coach behind an HL bench.
I do think that he obviously needs more experience.
He coached in the BCHL.
Now he's in the UCHL or USHL.
and but he's like I watched him firsthand like talk to the kids and the way that he breaks down video.
I think that there needs to be these younger former players who are able to step in Marty St.
Louis style just because I believe they have a better connection with the players.
And I believe that they could teach these guys more individual skill sets.
Like I don't think the I think the days of like, oh, I'm the head coach and you're the player.
You're going to do what you're told type thing.
Like the number one conversation about Rod with the players that have been interviewed from Carolina afterward is the word respect keeps coming up.
Respect, respect.
They respect each other as if though they're all on the same team.
And it's not this like this power complex.
And sometimes you see these tweets from these morons who are the ones chirping you about dunking shots from 152 yards out using your severance.
When Yan's used as eight that like, oh, they're not supposed to be buddies.
He's the coach.
Just do what you're fucking told.
Like those fucking people who tweet that shit out,
they haven't fucking played at any high level.
They don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
They're just donkeys online who are sitting there with their fucking beer bellies
who have never done anything significant in their life.
If you see-
And if they saw that, it was back, it was like that.
So that might be there.
It's like, that's how it always was.
And it's like, well-
But the evolution of the game is going a different way.
It's all changed.
Players are having more control.
They get more say about where they want to go now.
And if the body language of the players are like, we hate this guy,
they'd fire you even though you want a Stanley Cup for the team eight games before
playoffs.
That tells you where the league is at right now and what coaches need to be like for the players.
Right.
Speaking of Cassidy, apparently he was given permission to speak to one team.
I'm sure Elliott will end up finding out who it was.
but then McCriman mentioned it's a case-by-case basis.
So he will not be coaching Edmonton next year.
That's obvious.
Tell me if it's got to be a team out east.
Who's your number one team where he should go to?
I got mine in my head already.
Has to be out east?
Yeah, because I think that's who they gave clearance to a team out east.
I'm assuming it's an Eastern Conference team.
Rangers?
I'm trying to think of a $7 million deal.
I'm trying to think a team's ready to win.
right? Is it a team that's ready to win?
You want me to say my pick?
Buffalo?
You're going to say the devil.
The New Jersey Devils need custody.
Okay.
Jack Hughes, that leadership group,
they need something to get them to the next level.
Yeah, based on Devil's fans,
it seems as though they're not huge fans of Sheldon Keefe,
and then he's brought back
and there were some people upset about that.
Yeah, I would assume that would be a hiring
that the fans would be very fired up about.
Okay, let's just say Keith is no longer the coach after this year.
Do you guys mind if we bring on the delusional Devils fan for two seconds?
Go.
Can we roll the disclaimer?
There he is.
He's curving his hat.
Is that the devil's black on black?
He always wears.
Bring him in.
Bring him in.
Bring him in.
Bring him in.
I don't even need the disclaimer right now.
No disclaimer?
They're a non-factor.
It's perfect.
timing actually. This is the first time wearing a devil's hat since about January when I had my
spirit sucked out of me and I was like just get me to October. So perfect timing. I would rather
have Biz coach the Devils than Sheldon Keith. So yeah, I'll take, I'll take anyone. I like that
suggestion, Biz, but just from what I've heard, Keith has lost the room. So I don't know why he's still
going to be coaching the team in October. Okay. Well, so you, so do you, you would assume that he will
not last till the end of the year? Uh, I hope I'm wrong, but I just can't.
can't imagine if they go through a like, you know, a bit of a dry spell, I feel like his leash is, is this long.
Okay. And if he, and if he, if let's say Bruce Cassidy is not available, who would you replace Keith with?
I mean, I really wanted DeBoer before he got hired on the island. I just want fresh blood. Like, I think, I agree with what you're saying about like, you know, the kind of harder coach for that team. But I just want a fresh voice. I agree with Avery. Like enough of this old boys club.
Bring in a guy that's just, you know, new ideas and give him a shot.
and someone young that can kind of be there for a long time growing with a, you know, a relatively young team.
There's just so much young, talented, talent, like coaching out there that when you recycle guys,
I understand the success some of these people have had, but it's just as the years go on.
I mean, look at like McVeigh for the L.A. Rams, right?
Like that guy, he was kind of young.
It was different.
I don't know a ton about football at all.
but I think when he was hired, it was like off the beaten path from what you see in a lot of NFL coaches.
And that's changed in every league.
But with all these guys who played more recent and had success, whether it's the CHL, college or the HL,
giving people a new chance, like look at Wasowski in San Jose.
I mean, yeah, he dealt with like minors and different stops in college.
And getting to that point was definitely quicker than most people get to the NHL.
He's done a pretty good job so far.
He is a superstar that's playing there that really helps.
But it was a new hire.
It wasn't a recycled vet.
Yeah, look at Spencer Carberry.
G said St.
in Boston, Marty San Luis.
Like all those guys have had success.
Like, yeah, bring in a young guy.
Without head coaching in the NHL, you say.
With Torsowski, do you think since it's a copycat league?
Do you think because it's a copycat league,
we're going to see more head coaches offer up their children as collateral to
Yes.
Runs to playoffs.
That was just for a win.
I think that was just for a win.
strictly for a win.
In like October, too.
So yeah.
Just one?
Yeah.
Shit.
That's not a bad.
Well, thanks, Pasha.
If you think of any other ideas.
Before I go, I have a prediction.
I suspect in the next six to eight weeks, there will be a monumental trade in Jersey,
a big, massive shakeup trade.
So that's her.
That's heeshire.
No, he sure will be resigning any day.
Well, July 1st is when he's eligible, he will be resigning.
Okay.
So Hughes and Heeshire.
are the only monumental trades that Jersey could pull up.
Like, what do you mean?
Well,
what do you mean?
What do you mean?
But he would stay there because he's electric.
You're telling me if they package Nemitz a first,
maybe two first like Siliyev,
Casey,
they could easily bring in a player without trading one of their core.
Why are we talking about the New Jersey double?
I don't mind talking about everyone now.
The cup's been handed out.
I'm interested.
And that's why I'm putting the hat on because season's over.
Who do you want to talk about, Jans?
Caroline Hurricanes, man.
They just won the fucking
Well, we just gave them the fucking gluck-gluck
Last pod.
We just had two of their guys on.
We got Slavin coming on.
We just,
I just said I'd give Tulski a double wrist
I just hate the devils.
Pasha, you are one of the fans
and there's millions of them out there
who want to bring in studs
without ever giving anything up.
Simone Nemitz.
Simone Nemitz,
Dawson Mercer, a first or
two first. That's a big time package right there.
So why are you being so fucking vague about it?
Why don't you start dropping some names?
Like, who are you thinking?
For me, if you said Nemek, I would say Toronto's
interested in the puck moving defenseman and Nize's names come up a lot.
Is that somebody you're talking about?
Yeah, I could definitely see Nise.
I could see Brady could chalk.
If Quinn Hughes doesn't want to stay, I could see Quinn Hughes.
I'm talking, yeah, a big time trade.
He's got Quinn Hughes getting dealt for many this summer.
Pasha.
What, you think he's for sure staying?
I think there is no question that Quinn Hughes is playing opening night for the wild.
I think there's a very substantial chance he's not.
Wow.
Suck on that, Woody.
That's why we brought him on, Jans.
Yeah.
That's why the only problem with this is.
The only problem with this is.
Yes, it is.
He says he's going to the fucking devils.
No, no, I'm not saying he's going, but like you're acting like it's a zero percent chance to go to the devils.
I think it's a very real possibility, even if it's not more than 50 percent.
I think there's for sure a chance.
Here's the problem is that he knows he knows him.
So this is why it could truly be a suck.
No, but I don't even ask him about that stuff.
I just, I just.
Oh, yeah, you don't, you don't dig.
You don't dig, buddy.
You don't dig.
Here's my question for you as a devil's fan or anyone.
Why?
Explain to me why the Maple Leafs would ever trade Matthew Nyes.
Like, he is a guy that I would be like,
what the fuck are you doing trading him?
He signed.
He's signed.
He's a monster. He flies. He's physical. He can score. What are we doing here?
I don't get that whole.
And he's cheap. And it was a done deal that he was traded at 301.
So it didn't count that. So it's obviously not rumors. It happened.
And then didn't go through. So I don't get that. I don't. I won't understand that one.
Why would you trade him? I would trade Nealander before I traded Nyes.
Yeah, I agree.
That's why Brad probably got fired.
Well, no, because apparently, like, his name's still out there, according to Pasha Friedman down there.
They can. You have to have him.
Anyone, so Brady's, Brady's the one everyone wants, but the church.
Cairo.
I'll put Cairo on that list.
You're saying that Robert Thomas.
You would get Cairo?
I heard Thomas is no longer going to be moved, but he was someone I definitely wanted.
But, yeah, one of those kind of big-name guys is coming to Jersey in the next six to eight weeks.
Sonny made it is.
Oh, also I'll add this, Connor Hellebuck.
So that's a rumor all of a sudden going around that
Hellebuck, he has not requested a trade.
Well, the funny thing about these trade requests that we're going to see more and more
that we've talked about a million times.
Oftentimes you don't even, there's trade requests out there,
but we don't hear about him yet.
Well, we hear about stuff like that, but we just can't say them
because we got to keep certain things in the vault until everybody else
talks about it and breaks it and then we can talk about it.
Wait, but G's saying Merle's started that.
No, I don't think it was Murals with the Hellebuck stuff.
No, Merle's on the on game notes like three weeks ago was like, yeah, I got some
breaking news here.
No one knows this, but Connor Hellebuck has requested a trade and Merle's even through
a third of-well.
Well, I heard it from somebody else more than three weeks ago that is part of our universe,
but I'm just going to shut my mouth because I can't say anything when I hear it because
I promised I wouldn't.
This is a new biz.
This is a new biz.
Usually that's just getting blurted out.
Well, I also think it's fucking bullshit that we're like just holding it in the chamber
and then everybody else fucking drops it.
It's like, what are we doing here?
Hey, if I had info, I'd be dropping it left, right and center.
Same here, buddy.
Who's got the info?
Me and you, buddy.
Me and you, buddy.
Who's got it?
Pound it.
Actually, pinky it.
Pinky it.
I'm pinkie you.
Boys, Emily Kaplan one minute ago,
NHL investigation on Mike Babcock is wrapping up shortly.
Per ESPN sources, expectation is Babcock will be clear to coach,
and the Oilers want to hire him.
Fucking unbelievable.
Somebody mentioned something with Patrick Linae or some shit.
He probably took him away from the devils.
Lainey and Babcock?
Is that what you're saying?
I don't know.
I guess in Columbus,
like somebody said that there was some,
I don't know if that was true at all.
Yeah,
that was a report,
Biz,
that it stemmed from an incident
that happened with Patrick Line.
I went on,
I went on that 100% hockey podcast,
and I think I even mentioned it last
podcast here. Like, I don't, I don't care if this guy coaches again. Don't be fucking asking for
players phones. Just be a good guy. Just fucking coach like a normal coach. If you want to be stern
on your players, that's fine. But don't ask to scroll through their fucking photo album. That's it.
Don't hit, don't, don't hit up the airplay mode. Right?
I can't. 100%. Can't do it. Pretty funny that the Oilers, so far this offseason, I mean,
they are the biggest circus.
It's pretty incredible.
I think it's just,
it's fair after you insulting me for many years with the Toronto Maple Leafs
that now you are the clown of the podcast.
Yeah,
but I feel like I can admit,
I can admit right now we're the clown show.
Do do do do do do do do do.
And you also was off the team too,
so we can't forget that.
Yeah, for sure.
We can never forget that.
And what would Babs think of me as a fan?
He might kick me off the fan base.
imagine he mentions me in the press conference.
Yeah, that motherfucker who was on the podcast
that was basically the ones to break the news,
I was reading people's,
I was air-dropping photos onto my phone
in which I then got fired before I coached the game.
Yeah, he's not a fan.
He's not allowed to be a fan of the Oilers anymore.
I'd say, all right, Mike, see you later.
Crazy.
Mike Babcock.
Wow.
So does Emily Kaplan?
Does she seem to think that it's going to happen?
Like, it's going to, he's going to get out of the end.
If he's cleared, it's happening.
If he's cleared, it seems to be done.
Yeah.
Couldn't get Bruce.
I mean, I actually thought there was a chance
Torz could end up there when he wasn't kept by Vegas.
Torst in Edmonton, that would make a ton of sense to me.
Although Torts, I have been mentioning this,
he needs to be the mercenary and just come in 20, 30 games to go.
Not the eight, but second half of the year,
a team that's very talented that had way high.
higher expectations than what they're performing torts finished the year.
I would love to see a new trend.
We talk about the older cycle coaches.
I think that they should be the bullpen coaches, like the relievers.
You know, just okay, you know what?
Yeah, we could take about 20, 30 games of this guy and then see you later.
And I'm sure they would love it too.
Because then like you don't have a long enough time to get mad at other individual media
members from that city.
you stir it up for the 20, 30 games,
and then you're out of there packing up
and moving on to the next town.
Not to mention if you're doing that,
they're watching so much hockey
into, you know, first half of the year
that they really learn a lot about every team.
And you know these coaches, they're watching games.
I'd do this, I'd do this, I'd do this,
what is he thinking with this line?
What's he doing with this deep air?
I could do a way better job.
And then boom, you get the call.
And you've already coached that team
in your mind the first half of the year.
Like, this might sound crazy,
but going back to our last sandbagger with John Gruden,
I would hire Grude with 10 games left to go if I need a little boost.
Imagine listening to him.
Yeah, that's what I hear.
Hey,
if we end up going that route where you have dialed in assistance who know the game
and then you're straight up bringing motivators,
that could work.
Oh, imagine.
Imagine, imagine.
Until Gruden's like, what the fuck's that whistle for it?
That's off sides, coach.
Okay, fuck, let's go.
Keep grinding, boys.
You need to have the best decisions.
in the world. That would be insane.
I mean, that would work, I think, in playoffs to motivate guys, get them going.
Obviously, if your team already knows, the system's got everything bunkered down.
But, like, imagine him coming in and training camp trying to roll.
What if Dallas just rips off the first half of the year and then they lose, like, 16 of 18,
deadlines coming.
And it's like, we got, no, no, all of a sudden, you know, we got a press conference.
David Goggins has been hired by the Dallas.
cars and we're like, what the hell?
And they just roll to the cup.
Yeah.
I could see this biz.
I like that.
I think I broke my leg blocking a shot.
He's like, shut the fuck up, pussy.
Get the fuck up.
Another trade.
Okay, so I guess we didn't even bring up, but Joseph Wall was dealt.
Joseph Wall is their best goalie, correct?
I think when healthy, he's, yeah.
He, he, like, athletically, like, he could be pretty dialed.
Yeah.
Kind of a weird trade.
It's a weird trade.
And I don't really know anything about, um, so Erson went back.
Who's the defenseman?
Is it, uh, what's his name, G?
A meal.
We got, they got stole ours in, and Hildebeast now, which the hill to be
tandem.
They had three good goalies.
Now, now there's less of a, like a, like a three ring circus of like who's going to be the guy.
I believe this upcoming year now, Hildebeast has to clear waivers.
So, hey, if you're going to end up sending them down and losing them for nothing,
I guess there was a deal to be made.
I'm assuming with the goalie, they got back and return.
And how do I pronounce his last name, Emerson?
Erson?
Erson.
I think it was Erson.
Does he have to clear waivers now?
Because if he does, then you're right back in the same ballpark.
But I believe that he's the bigger goalie who needs a little bit of work done in the
minors. But I don't know.
Just a little bit of a weird one where I don't think it's a needle mover where like I think
Wall when healthy, I think he could be like a number one goalie in the league and he can
help a team win and go on a playoff run. I don't know.
And it's not a money thing, right?
No. No. Pretty bizarre trade. But as a guy who doesn't give a fiddler's fuck about the
Leafs anymore, I don't really care we can move on. Okay. Well, the other trade and I'll never
understand this. I need to get to the bottom of why Michael Kesslering never played for Buffalo,
but he was traded to San Jose. He actually got a first round pick, 27th overall pick.
Oh, wait, the Sabres dealt Kelserang. Oh, the Sabres dealt him and the 27th pick to the
sharks for the 20th pick, okay? So I thought Kesseling was going to be a big part of that
don't trade. Everyone did. Never played in the playoffs. I was thinking he was injured. Then
Merle said he wasn't.
I'm not exactly sure what happened there.
Maybe in practice, Lindy Ruff didn't like it.
I don't know.
I have no idea what happened there,
but San Jose needs help on D.
So a good deal for them, I think.
And then, you know, they get to move up in the draft a little bit.
Yeah, I think it's a great deal for San Jose.
They need puck movers.
They keep getting, you know, good skilled forwards.
But, I mean, if you're going to have skill forwards,
you've got to have D men that can move the puck.
And, you know, I think that that trade might put them over the hump for the R.A.
winning the cup.
Yeah, that's it.
Are his bet's going to work out well.
So we got...
Well, there's rumors buzzing around now, too,
that they're shopping, Bo Byer.
That one makes sense to me.
That makes sense.
I think he's up after this year.
Yeah.
Is he UFA after this year, though?
I would personally rather pay him and keep him around
and then move on from Tuck.
But I think the D, like you got...
They got a lot of left.
They like what they saw in power.
I bet if power had a shitty playoff,
like they might have been him moving on from,
maybe not because he's so young still.
But I think Power showed what he can do in the playoffs
and they're comfortable with having him and Dahlene.
And then, you know, obviously Sam is saying, yeah,
they got their three lefties.
So, and he's a UFA after next year.
He's making 6.25 next year.
And then that's going to be a much bigger payday for him.
Right?
Fuck, maybe, maybe they age.
Toronto's in desperate need of a puck moving defenseman.
So like, you look at like, imagine, imagine moving the, like,
Nyes is, it's crazy to me that he's available.
That would be a guy if you could move off of Byram I would go try to get.
But you need more to Toronto with Byram than just.
Correct.
Yeah, for sure.
For sure.
Yeah.
Is Slaving here?
Oh, sure.
There is.
We can't see you, unfortunately.
Can you throw your video on or do you not know how to do that?
Okay, okay.
And I don't have a very service.
Yeah, we'll just talk it out like this.
Yeah, this is old school, Jacob.
Well, congratulations, buddy.
It should still work.
It should still work if you click the video button.
We should still be able to see you fine there, Jacob.
Yeah, okay, I don't have AirPods in, so we'll see how this goes.
Okay.
Okay, no problem.
Way better.
You sound way better than Marty.
Marty's got the vaguest voice.
Oh, there we go.
perfectly. How are you doing, buddy?
Let's see.
You guys hear me here?
We hear you great.
Okay, nice.
We hear you great.
How did you hit him? How'd you hit him yesterday?
Yesterday, okay. First round in a long time shot in 83.
Okay.
Not terrible. Greens were rolling pretty slow, so left the team Bertie Putt short,
so I never want to do that.
Who's best golfer on that team?
probably fishy and ghost
Ghost is good huh
Is he a lefty?
Yeah
I haven't golfed them
No he's already
He's already
Yeah
But he hammers the ball
Just steps up and hammers it
Bus is pretty quiet
Are the boys licking their wounds
From the last couple nights of partying?
Lots of sleep going on
fellas
Yeah they're back there
It's quite a bus ride though
A lot of naps going on
So have you been able to
kind of even sit back yet and think about the fact you had one of the greatest years in hockey
history winning the gold medal and then the Stanley Cup.
Like I'm guessing with all the party, not yet, but at some point, man, it's going to hit you
what actually you accomplished and your teams.
Like, it's just incredible.
Yeah, no, it's something that's special.
I mean, it's fully, it fully hit me yet.
I'm not sure, but I was actually, I was talking to jar about it.
Meijar woke up 8.30 this morning,
got a few more holes in before we left,
and we were just chatting about it.
The gold medal is the first championship I've ever won.
Anything, in any hockey level?
I mean, maybe a couple state champions,
like state championships when I was 10, 12 years old,
nothing like crazy,
but, like, actual, like, meaningful championship ever.
And so kind of started off on a high note there,
and then, yeah, finish it off with the cup this year.
It's just, I was,
as unbelievable.
Cups a little bit better though,
because you win a gold medal
and then you're like,
oh shit,
I gotta get right back to work
where now is like
you can kind of go on
a little bit of a bender all summer,
but I would imagine you're not,
you're not too big of a boozer?
Yeah, no,
not a boozer.
I took my first sip of champagne
out of the mug in the locker room
and that doesn't taste too great.
What about gummies?
No, no gummies for me.
They're just,
uh,
just high on the Holy Spirit
Love it
I want to ask you about that dude
Because like honestly
After we talked to you after game one
I believe it was against Montreal
It was a tough game for you
And we were like we asked you like
How do you bounce back?
And then you were just like I just like
I trust in my faith
And like fuck man
It's so inspiring that like it makes me want to pick up a Bible
And even read it if I could read
But like
Did you just grow up in a
They got audio bibles for you
They got audio bibles.
He's not a good listener either.
I'm not a good listener either.
Talking over the Bible reader.
They got the audio bibles.
You'll be good.
Yeah, that first game against Montreal by far.
My dad looked at me after.
He's like, that might have been the worst game of your career.
And I was like, probably was.
But for me, I mean, my faith is the most important part.
And yeah, when I say like I really leaned in my faith,
It's just there's a certain piece that comes from having a relationship with Christ,
where my performance doesn't dictate my identity.
A lot of guys in hockey, how they play, whether they play greater, whether they play bad.
It dictates their identity, their mood, all that kind of stuff.
And for me, being able to have that relationship with Christ really just helps me stay at peace
regardless of the performance, just because I know that God loves me no matter what.
Jesus already died on the cross of my sins.
And so whether I suck at hockey or whether I played unbelievable, it doesn't change
his love for me.
So being able to rely on that going into game two against that Montreal series is really
where my focus was.
It's like, all right, you still have an opportunity to go out there and glorify God on a world
stage.
And that's what I was wanting to do.
That is, that's awesome.
Like, just given that mindset and how you're able to bounce back and, like, things like
that don't affect you because like obviously there's a bigger purpose and things like that.
Have other teammates who maybe weren't as into their faith as you are?
Have they ever like approach you to like ask for help and maybe go in that direction where
it has ended up helping them in their hockey game?
Yeah, absolutely.
I shared a story.
This happened a couple seasons ago, but Chatfield, he became a Christian maybe three
seasons ago. I ended up baptizing him in my pool. It was pretty special.
But him and I, we had a lot of good conversations on the bus, on the plane, all of it.
And then he eventually, with our team chaplain, accepted Christ. And we've had lots of
good conversations since then. But he, again, he understands now that his identity is not
in the game of hockey. Because the way we always talk about is one day hockey's going to end.
And if you have your identity found in hockey, you're going to kind of be shook up a little bit
and trying to find a purpose in your life after that.
But when your purpose is just to glorify God and everything you do,
you don't lose your purpose when you stop tying up the skates.
Fuck, I think I need to get baptized in your pool, buddy.
Hey, brawley's open, it's hot, pool feels great.
Come on down.
He just wants to come over for a swim.
We can open up the Bible app and listen to some audio Bible together.
Hey, can you put the holy water in the cup and then dunk it over my head?
I'll read do a little Bible story, put it down for a night.
out.
Jacob, but speaking to Chatfield, and Trip Tracy said it to us that he plays every game,
like as if he's going to get sent down after the game.
How nice is it for you playing with him?
Like, you guys were incredible together.
It's, it's just speak on his, what he's meant to your team on the ice, because we just
heard what he meant to you off the ice.
Yeah, I mean, he's, he's unbelievable.
I've, ever since he came to our team, I've always thought, man, this guy, it just
absolutely buzzes out there.
and so having him on the team being able to obviously be his partner
and have him on the team for so long,
it's been honestly just a treat.
And then just to watch him continue to blossom into the defenseman that he's becoming,
it's unbelievable.
And we might not be the most offensive pair there is,
but I mean, I feel like during the playoffs,
we got other guys unbelievable defensemen on our team to provide that offense.
So our job is to shut down the other team's top line.
and felt like we were able to do that for the most part pretty well all playoffs.
And I looked at him after,
because I've had a lot of unbelievable partners in my career,
from Dougie Hamilton to Brett Burns and Tony DeAngelo,
Brett Pest you a little bit there.
Like I've had some really good D partners.
But him and I, Chaddy and I would just,
I felt like we shut it down pretty good.
And I told him, because he looked at me at one point,
I was just like, hey, sorry, man.
I wasn't the best.
I was like, hey, I've never won't a cup with any other D partner.
I want to cup with you.
And so it's very special.
Oh, he was, you guys were unbelievable.
It was cool to also hear when we talked to your pregame wit,
he learned that busy stick and always in the in the stick lane from his sister.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
My sister, she was a solid defenseman.
And I went back after that interview and I was like,
I kind of probably messed up because she played boys hockey up and still 14 AAA.
Like she was, she played 14 AAA in Colorado.
And she was a absolute beast out there.
She wasn't afraid to hit.
And so, but then after that, once she switched to girls hockey,
once I really started to develop in my game,
is when I probably learned more from her about just positioning and skating
and being in the right position with their stick and stuff.
Once she started playing girls hockey,
and wasn't able to hit as much.
But, no, she was an unbelievable defenseman and definitely learned a lot from her.
For you personally, like, you played 82 games three years in a row.
You've played 81.
You've played 80, 79.
Didn't miss a ton of games.
and then you're injured to start the year.
We've oftentimes on this show mentioned
that sometimes when you go on a run,
it can almost help you because you're maybe a little bit more rested.
Was that the case for you maybe?
And how hard was it missing all that time
when you've never really had to do that?
Yeah, it was really late.
Hard, I wouldn't say is the right word.
It was interesting because, like you said,
I've never been injured.
The injury that I had at the beginning of the season
was a super weird, flukey injury in my knee.
I had a little stress fracture in it,
but like second game of the year
trying to come back
because it happened probably a month
before training camp started
and then I tried to come back from it
and my knee just gave out on me
but it wasn't like my muscle.
I don't know.
It was just a really weird injury.
So when I look at a big picture,
I honestly go back to my faith again
and just say like God had his timing in it
for all of it.
And even the fact like I come back,
played three games, hurt my shoulder,
and then out for another three and a half weeks.
At that point I'm not sure if the Olympics
are going to happen.
And then play maybe for three weeks before the Olympics.
And Billy Giernan called me saying, hey, we're still going to take you.
We'll just see where you're at right before.
And so I think all of it, honestly, was just God preparing my body to be able to go in a long run,
to be able to play in the Olympics and then make a long Stanley Cup run.
So just really trusted in the process.
And again, through that whole time, never lost my joy.
Never lost the love for the game or just the love for Christ.
Because, again, my joy is not found in hockey, whether I'm injured or whether I'm healthy.
It's just my joy is found in the Lord.
And so that was something I was able to lean into during that time, especially.
Yeah, did you want to go?
Are you got?
No, yeah, I just had one about, you know, you winning Olympic gold and then Stanley Cup.
Which one felt better?
Obviously, you're battling with the hurricanes for the last 10 years or so.
But you win for your country or you win for your city.
Like, which one felt better?
Can I say they both felt amazing in their own way?
because they did.
I mean, there's no better honor than representing your country.
And obviously, all the people have lived and fought and died for our country.
Like, I know some guys down in North Carolina at Fort Bragg,
and they were so pumped, like, beyond pumped for us to win.
My brother-in-law was a Marine for a long time.
So, like, there's just people that it meant a lot to them.
So representing the country, there's no greater thing to do.
But then obviously, I'm in Carolina for 11 years.
Like, it's my 11th season with the team.
And so the city, the people, the community there, the organization, I mean, these guys are my brother on this bus.
And so it's something that's completely amazing in its own way.
And so I'm going to say they're both amazing, but just different ways.
So you were there before Rod came in?
Yeah, I was there for the first couple of years.
We play the coyotes on a Tuesday night and we had 5,000.
fans if we were lucky in the building and now we're selling out every night.
So I've been here a long time.
Like what like Witt actually brought up a cool story that you read about while we're on the last
podcast about the like the cinder block in the room.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
Who, like, introduced that?
Was that a rod thing?
And were you guys aware that it was the same way as a Stanley Cup?
Like, or did you guys find out afterward when, when he kind of explained why you guys were
doing this after every workout?
Yeah, so that would have been Roddy and Billy our strength goat who is, I mean, you've seen some videos on him probably.
He's one of a kind.
But it was one of those things where I think they both knew what was going on the whole time.
But until Roddy told us a couple weeks ago, I had no idea.
It was just something that we did.
And just after every workout, you left that up once.
And that was about it.
So that was something they introduced to us.
Roddy kind of explained us in that moment.
Okay, so was it a moment where, like, that he brought it up before you guys had won it,
where he just felt like he needed to drop the ace of spades and be like,
the reason that you were in there doing that the whole time?
Like, what moment did he tell you guys that?
Yeah, I know, exactly.
I think, I can't remember I was in the last series against Vegas,
and he was like, I've been debating and telling you guys this.
And he was just like, the reason we do this, silver block thing is it weighs just as much as a cup test.
So every day you practice, lifting that thing up.
that's that's preparing you guys for this moment that might happen and so i think just
a little lot a little bit more fire under us and try to get us going do you ever think about
how blessed you are to have a guy like that who cares as much as he does and understands the community
and like what he's been able to build obviously with you marty stallsy probably aho and
svetch have been there the longest like slowly building and and getting you guys to where you've been
and I guess the sacrifice he's made to the city of Raleigh.
Yeah, it's unbelievable.
I'm so thankful, but he's my coach.
I've talked about it with my wife, actually.
Like, I can't imagine having another coach, like, in my career.
Like, I feel like he's been in it.
We've been together eight years now, and I can't, I got what, seven years left on my contract.
I can't imagine having a different coach in the next seven years.
Like, I feel like he's in it for the long call.
He's an unbelievable coach, the respect that he has for us as players, as people,
for our families, for the city.
Like, he's the perfect
coach for us here.
Jacob, I'm so interested with your
personal life and your faith because
like it hits me hard because I was
somebody that was, you play good
and you're the best and you play bad and
you're worthless. It was something that I always
fought and hearing you talk about
being a player doesn't really make
who you are, like it doesn't go
hand in hand. And even looking at
your Instagram, like you've done, you do work with
the international justice mission, your wife
and you adopted your daughter.
Like, I'm wondering what it means to you to do work for others
and how about you went about adopting your daughter
and how that all began and just like take us through some parts of your life
that people don't know just watching you kind of be a stud defensive defenseman every year.
Yeah, I guess the easiest way to probably go about that would be,
I mean, everything that I have, my family, my life, my hockey career,
everything is just a gift from God.
And he sent his son to die on the cross of my sins to save me.
And without that, I'd be spending an eternity separated from him.
And so him being willing to sacrifice his own life for me, wants to be,
well, I want to live my life for him in every aspect,
whether that's with my family, whether that's with relationships of friends,
whether it's for him.
And so in order to do that, I have to be willing to be obedient to how he calls me to live,
but also be willing to be generous because obviously he was generous with giving us his own life.
And so when it comes to finances, when it comes to just being in the community,
like we're called, I'm called to be a light in this world.
And so I want to do that in every aspect.
When it comes to the adoption story, my wife just always had adoption on her heart from the time she was 10 years old.
And we actually, when we were dating, we were talking about it.
I was like, I'm not sure I want to adopt.
She's like, well, that's going to be a deal breaker for me.
Okay.
And so I was all right, fine, we can adopt.
Whatever, like I was 18 years old or whatever I had to say to keep the girl at the time.
And so eventually we got married.
And as we were going about it, we started talking about having kids.
And we went to some fundraising event where there was a story about a six-year-old adopted boy.
And on the way home, she was like, all right, I want to adopt a six-year-old boy.
I was like, hold on, off the brakes.
Like, I thought we were having biological first.
And there we, so we had to go through a whole conversation about it.
God really worked on my heart to get me to the spot where I was, I just had to put my,
we talk about it all the time of putting your yes on the table.
Just like, whatever God has for us, like, we're going to trust that that's the plan.
And that's what's best for us.
And so we went the adoption route first, and God brought Emerson into our life.
And she's, she's amazing.
She's so fun.
And she's seven years old now.
but we just kind of went into that process with open hands.
I got whatever child you want to place in our lives.
Like that's going to be the child that you place in our life.
And so she's amazing.
And then obviously we had our son biological and figuring out what we want to do for the third one.
But yeah, and then when it comes to like helping out international justice mission or compassion international,
it's really just God's given us the blessing of great finances, right?
Playing in the NHL, we have all the finances we could ask for.
but at the end of the day we're just stewards of it.
That's not our money. It's his money.
And so we want to use it in a way that glorifies him.
And right now in my career, I don't have time to go overseas and serve,
but I can help organizations that are already doing that.
And by giving them their money,
by encouraging other people to give them their money
and really just using the platform God has given us to extend that reach
of people understanding what's going on in the world
and what needs help.
Have you,
I'm sure it's been nice
probably being with a team
in an organization
who's very receptive
to your beliefs as well.
Like, did you ever find maybe
that like even growing up
that you were playing hockey
in a place where there wasn't as many people
that were into their faith
where you almost felt like,
I don't want to say like an outcast
but just like different.
Like do you feel like in Carolina
they'd been so receptive to all that
to where like it just feels like home?
Yeah, I think being
with Raleigh,
technically being in part of the Bible Belt,
it definitely helps. I mean, we're in a
community where there's a church on every corner,
right? And so,
found a great church home. Honestly, it's
my wife's from St. Louis, Sarah. I'm from
Colorado. We're always home for
us. It's been home for us ever since our
year. And so we stay there during the
summertime, so we're well connected in the
community. But yeah,
no, everyone's been so receptive and so
understanding of it. I mean, honestly,
whole career everywhere I've gone. It's been
everyone accepts me for who
I am and for what I believe and obviously
I don't stand in the locker room
on a pedestal trying to pound the
Bible into people's heads. But
I'm just trying to live
genuinely and love people well.
Is there like
ongoing jokes in the locker
about it? Like do they call you like
Ned Flanders or like do they
you know, could you take the piss a little
bit about it too? Well and he spit out the
champagne they chirped him.
I can see the fun of it.
I mean,
and we,
we've had some good jokes in the locker room about it.
I'm even getting on the bus to go to,
to go to this golf course.
We,
I texted the group chest and I got bagels.
I was picking up some bagels on the way
and someone texted back saying,
can you bring Jesus to?
I might need him.
And so little jokes like that.
And so we,
it's all in fun.
It had to be D.Lo, who said that.
Hey, Jacob.
Oh,
the Gelo.
Well, the deal.
Jacob Olstein.
Yeah, I don't want to, I don't know about that one, but.
The mega church.
That's a conversation for when you come over and hang out at the pool.
Hey, hey, when we were doing the TNT broadcast,
it felt like we were in a mega church when you,
the fans were going crazy when you guys were coming out of the tunnel, man.
It was nuts in there.
That's bananas in Lenovo Center.
That's so good.
You know who needs Jesus?
Is this guy behind you right now?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Kind of looks like him right now.
Delo, we're going to say a prayer for you.
Hey, can we do a prayer for Delo right now?
We're saying you need Jesus right now.
No, Deel told me he was going to play golf with me at 8.30 this morning.
Promise me, actually, last night.
Did not make it.
No chance.
No chance.
If we had to do a small prayer for him right now, what would we say?
Like, what would we do?
I would pray that he would just feel the love of God
and that God would open his eyes to the beauty of the gospel
that it's not about what you've done, what you do.
It's all about what Jesus has done for you.
And so just that his eyes would be open to that.
And let him stay awake for the whole parade.
Yes, and hopefully he doesn't puke on the way home on this bus ride.
Can you also ask God to give me dance moves like he had at the elbow room
when he got caught on the live camp.
Oh, yeah.
I haven't seen that video yet.
I heard he was buzzing out there, though.
Yeah, he's a buzzer.
Hey, so you're not, I mean, I know you have your Instagram,
but you're not reading comments, Twitter,
you're staying away from all that noise, I'm guessing.
I have in recent years.
I used to not, and I would, just like anybody, right,
pride creeps in and you want to know what people are saying about you.
And so about the past couple years,
I've just, I've done away with that kind of stuff.
and there's a great, there's a Christian rapper.
I don't know if you ever listen to Christian rap is,
but there's some good songs out there.
And there's a song by LaCray,
and he says, if you live for their acceptance,
you'll die from their rejection.
And so I was just like,
that's pointless to read these comments.
They don't, that's pointless.
And so I just, I got away from it.
Fuck it.
You're a G, dude.
I love, you're the best, dude.
You're the best.
I'm so happy for you.
I appreciate it.
Yeah.
You're an incredible player to watch and like a better human buddy.
It's very impressive, really happy for you.
Being an American watching that in Italy, it was just something I'll never forget.
And then this run by you guys and the performance you had, it's, uh, hats off to you, buddy.
It's, it's incredible to see.
Yeah, it's been a fun year.
It's, uh, I got to be a part of you on an unbelievable team, right?
Like this team in Carolina, unbelievable, the U.S. team, unbelievable.
So really just grateful.
for the opportunity, and it's just been
taking it as it comes and having fun
with it. My final question,
could you always skate so well?
Was that always your thing?
So it's funny to say that. I've always thought, like,
obviously I get from point A to point B
well,
it doesn't look pretty, though. I don't think
it looks pretty. I think
I've always thought I had a funny looking stride,
but I get there from
point A to point B.
That's all that matters. Got a good first
three steps, and then after that's just position.
and so I think that just came with not being too physical
and really having to make sure I was in the right position
at the right time.
So, yeah.
If you could pick one unsung hero in that locker room
from this run, who would it be?
Like, who's the one guy that sticks out to you?
Maybe he didn't get the most public praise,
but you're like, this guy was, he was my guy.
He's the guy that I thought that played unbelievable all playoffs long
and might not have gotten the attention to Sean Walker.
I thought he played.
I thought he played so good.
And I thought he was a beast out there.
He's blowing guys up.
He's making plays.
And so I liked his game, loved it all playoffs long.
Him and Key were just dynamite of a deep air all playoffs long.
He was unreal in the Vegas series too.
You guys, like, I think four different guys led your team in ice time throughout that run in different games.
Like, so you never see that.
Like, that is usually one guy is always playing the most minutes.
That was so cool about your decor.
Just deep.
Yeah, it's deep. The whole team is deep.
Like, it's just, it was one of those runs where everything was clicking, the whole playoffs.
Like, we've had, we've had runs before, power play wasn't going, penalty kill wasn't going,
goal-tending fell off or whatever, but we had everything this run.
I mean, I think we can let them go with.
This has just been awesome.
We're so grateful for your time.
You're on the bus with the boys, and we appreciate it.
So tell everyone, congrats.
And once again, man, amazing run, very happy for you and your family.
So enjoy the summer.
I appreciate it, guys. Thank you.
All right, see it.
What a guy.
I'll tell you right now, man, that is like some powerful, powerful stuff.
And to, we've actually been going to church.
Well, I grew up Catholic, but we were practicing Catholics, Breeze Christian.
I went to church when I was young.
We've been going to a non-denominational Christian church nearby.
It's called Grace Church.
And I actually really enjoyed it.
It's a lot different than a Catholic Mass.
and hearing the way that he puts it all into perspective and what his life is about and why he's living.
It's very inspirational personally.
It is.
And to see him and his success and talk about no ego.
And it's just, it's amazing.
And what a player he is too.
So that's pretty cool.
And Biz, I like that question about outcast almost.
Well, buddy, if you would have, like in some locker rooms, if you would have went in there.
I don't want to say you would have been rejected, but it just maybe.
you wouldn't have fit in as much.
Like I personally was a teammate where like donor would do Bible study.
Like he would say,
hey, we're going to get together.
And sometimes there's only be a couple guys in the room.
Sometimes it'd be like four or five.
And, you know, sometimes I would go in and just to like have the conversation and learn about
what's important about faith.
But as you could see, like a lot of times like, you know, people will be in their own head
and be going through struggles.
And when you have religion and God in your corner, like a lot of the times that stuff
other stuff doesn't phase you.
It's just outside noise.
So rather than going to see a psychiatrist or whatever,
like sometimes just having a conversation like that with God
or reading the Bible or even going to church like you said,
like that can cure what you need.
So yeah, I'm glad that we had them on and are having this conversation
because I think it's important.
And I grew up going to church just as much probably as you did,
like once a week.
And then obviously hockey kicked in more and more.
and then we stop going.
But it's a good reflection time.
You sit there and you listen to people's interpretation of what, you know,
each what the verses mean.
And it's cool.
It's,
it's very,
very rewarding.
Yeah.
So an amazing guy.
Congrats to all the hurricanes and him.
And thanks to Halsey and Martinuk.
I think now we,
I do want to discuss this CBC news with hockey night and Canada,
but let's save that for R.A.
and bring in the wardhog.
Hello,
everybody.
R.A's world here on the Spit and Chicklets
podcast. What's up, boys? Winding down
the end of the season. Wait, I had that
in my notes. CBC is no longer
going to be having Hockey Night in Canada.
I feel like there's a huge news up there. I'm so
confused. That is hockey night
in Canada. Correct? Yeah, but CBC
is the public airwaves. I guess think of it
like PBS here in the States, like
Channel 2. It's like free over
the year television, but now... I always thought of it
as like NBC, ABC,
or CBS. No.
Those, while those are free
over the year. This is public. It's paid for by the public. It's public broadcast. And so ABC, CBS, NBC, they're all private companies, but PBS, you know, what we have, WHDH, I'm sorry, W, whatever hell it is here, Channel 2, PBS, that's what it's called here. It's public broadcast. And so it's always been public broadcast on CBC. It's still going to be hockey night in Canada. It's just going to be on sports then now.
But it will not be called Hockey Night in Canada because I believe CBC owns that IP.
right but I do believe they're gonna
they're gonna be able to use the name
I'm sure they're probably gonna give me
give them a little kickback or whatever
but there's still gonna be hockey night you can't
it's just not gonna be on CBC like it has been forever
and you know this is when you feel bad for like old time
is like you know I think like you know guys my dad's age
who you know they've been the best customers best fans forever
and now you know a lot of guys you know don't stream
a lot of older folks don't don't get the gist of it
so they kind of get screwed when everything goes to
it's a cable or whatever so
it will be in fewer households
Over the last 12 years since SportsNet and Rogers have owned the rights,
they were allowing hockey night in Canada to take place on CBC
because they kind of didn't want to change it over.
And it was one of those, you know,
they worked out a deal, whatever that deal may have been.
It also was like a obviously pretty good, like promotion wise
where CBC would do it.
And then they would get to talk about some of the shows that they would air on CBC
and promote, you know, some of the things that they have done.
So it was a good, like, working relationship.
I think that now, like, considering Rogers and sports that and what they pay for the rights,
they were like, okay, well, we've basically essentially given it over for cents on the dollar.
And now we're not going to do so anymore.
So in less households.
And it's just more about the tradition.
I think that it's been since like 1952, maybe RA or you could correct me, since it's been on CBC.
So this is where like a lot of people like, you know, RAs parents.
age or even R.A's age, like, watched hockey growing up.
Like, well, it would have been, what, 70s for you, R.A.?
Yeah, but it's definitely the end of an era, though.
You know what I mean?
Like, I mean, hockey net and camera and CBC, they're, you know, sort of almost one on
the same.
So, I mean, people still be able to watch it.
But yeah, going from the public airwaves to a paid channel, it's, yeah, it's a big
change.
And I'm sure a lot of folks up there probably aren't crazy about it.
But I think that's just the way the world, the way things go with sports media
and broadcast and stuff.
There's your towel right there, Biz.
When did you get that one, buddy?
I actually got two towels.
I actually brought one over to the Gretzky Hockey School
because we're going to do some fun interviews
and, like, pay homage to hockey night in Canada,
considering it's no longer going to be on CBC on Friday.
So the MVP of the game, I'll interview them
and they'll get the towel around their neck.
I got one for when I was on After Hours with Scott Oak and Razor from,
from Dallas. I think it was those
too. Darry. Yeah. Daryl Ray.
Is Razor his nickname? Yeah.
I think they call him Razor. Yeah. Darryor. And we did that one in Arizona.
I didn't play in the game. It was a healthy scratch, but still got to do after hours.
That might be the only time that's ever happened.
Maybe. Yeah, maybe. And then I got another one from Ron McLean
when I did my first ever hockey night in Canada for CBC with the boys up in Toronto.
know so I got two towels.
This one is the one I did after hours.
The other one I dropped off with the boys is the one that Ron McLean gave me.
And like you talked about R.A.
Like I had I got to do it.
I feel honored that I was a part of it and got to be a part of that.
And I just, I respect the history of it.
There were so many amazing people that work there in the media landscape.
I know that some people's attention want to be drawn to like, oh, the Don Cherry and Ron
McLean thing.
Like there were so many great memories and years of that relationship.
and that friendship.
So that's where I'd rather focus my attention on
and all the amazing things that they did
in order to bring hockey to the forefront
and create so many amazing memories across Canada
for so many hockey lovers.
Like this is where people used to watch Wayne Gretzky
and Bobby Orr and, you know,
and listen to Bob Cole.
And it was an amazing broadcast for so many years.
And I think it's just time to kind of shed light
on the amazing memory of it.
And thank you to everybody who allowed me
to be a part of it as well.
Being an American,
I got one with an intermission interview,
and, you know, they put it over,
they make sure the logos right over the left.
And I was like, this is so cool.
And I was like,
Canadian.
And then coming in the room, boys,
oh, you got first,
first towel you ever got.
It's like, it was unreal getting that.
Like a true memory.
I was in Toronto when I got mine.
Oh, that's so cool.
The only two towels I'll touch in your house,
biz.
Hey, I know we pretty much wrapped up the cup.
I got a couple last notes here.
First, I want to give a shout out to my guy on Twitter,
not David Canales.
He got the tattooed trifecta.
He had no tattoos on this part of his arm before the playoffs started.
And boom, he got the Hurricane Warner ones for us.
Then he got Stormy the Pig second.
And then you go look right there.
He's got the Stanley Cup there.
They put the logo on it.
Pretty good work.
And Tulski saw it for one of the games.
To correct you, my occulpa here.
It will not be called Hockey N.
Canada anymore. Oh, okay. Wow. I'm going to double-check my work after.
CDC is keeping the trademark. Okay. All right. I'll, I don't doubt you, but I fucked that up.
Me a couple of me then. Another couple, yeah, interesting notes.
Alexander Nekishin is the first Russian player born in this century, the 21st century,
to win the Stanley Cup thus far. And this is from Chris Johnson. On the same ice service,
where Lazella became the first Danish player to win the Stanley Cup back in 2018 with the
Caps, Frederick Anderson and Nicola Iliah Elyas became the second and third to do it on the same
surface of ice.
So pretty cool stuff there.
I feel curious about odds for next year.
Carolina is the chalk already.
There's 7 to 1 to win the cup next year.
Colorado 8 to 1.
Vegas plus 850, Florida 11.1.
Edmonton 11.1, Tampa 12 to 1.
Not sure if you're curious about anything else, but not going to read all 32 of them there.
Patrice Bergeron, absolutely no surprise here.
His 37, going up to the rafters.
The Bruins haven't announced the game yet.
to be forthcoming, but they did this thing.
I guess they probably got the idea from the NHL where they were doing the awards.
They were kind of like hoodwaking guys into showing up where they didn't know they were going
to get the trophy.
I guess Z had reached out to Bergeron.
I guess Z's going to be playing Z's final shift a game over in Slovakia later in the summer,
and Bergeron is going to go over for it.
So Z called them under the guys that they were going to film some stuff.
But unbeknownst to Burzoron, Neely, Middleton, O'Reilly, Johnny Bucick, and Charlie Jacobs
all showed up to let him know that they were going to.
to be retire his number so they you know they did it right at his house and stuff so you can check
out the video on broil and really cool based on the we just did an hour and a half interview with him
last week the trees bergeron and that is going to be an excellent speech when his jersey is retired the guy
is he's just very awesome to listen to him talk and so i think that night will be very special
that's going to be a a packed barn and just i think many kids or guys grunelli's age even
older, that's like their favorite bruin of all time.
So it's pretty cool.
Just pure class.
Like when he walks in a room, you're just like, there's, there's a presence about
him and just so stoic.
But yet like, like the humility, like didn't take himself seriously.
He was funny.
Just fucking handsome guy too.
That's salad he's got on him.
Geez, he, I mean, some guys get it all.
A.R.A.?
And some don't.
Yeah.
Yeah, he kind of has that presence like like a Jean Belavre or Jean Riteau or Jean Retele.
back the day. It's like, you know, just
drips class the way he played the game as well.
Gee, how old were you when he broke into the league?
You must have been a young buck. Yeah, it's crazy.
I probably had to be nine or ten years old.
So basically like my whole life, all I knew was Patrice Bergeron,
winning draws and being the best defensive forward in the league.
So it's pretty cool. And I tell this story on when we interview him,
but like my dad changed our season tickets when we were little kids because
all he wanted us to do was learn the game and play like Patrice Bergeron.
obviously it didn't work well.
But he moved us up to the balcony, the first row balcony.
We'd sit right behind the Bruins net so we could watch how Patrice Bergeron played in the defensive zone.
And every time we'd sit there, he'd say ISO 37, watch 37, watch 37.
So when I texted my family that we interviewed Patrice Bergeron, they said it was a bigger deal than when we interviewed Tom Brady.
So he means so much to the community, to my family.
And yeah, he's the best.
That's unreal.
That's unreal.
And for those of you who think, oh, like Jersey retirement, like,
the rumors will be squash that he's coming back to play.
No, we're going to continue those year and year out, you know,
right around the midway point when the Bruins are struggling.
You get to wear the same number too.
Nobody else can wear it.
Not saying you can't wear it.
Yeah, 19 seasons is a brown.
Six Selky trophies.
Obviously, played in three Stanley Cups.
One, one of them.
Let's see, a thousand 40 points in 1294 games,
then 128 points in 170 playoff games.
And yeah, just an all-time legend here.
And I was telling, Keith,
when you guys were in town last week.
He was actually at the 2005 Boston Marathon the year of the lockout
because he played his rookie season.
Then he was in Providence the next year because Providence was locked out.
And while she brought him to the marathon over on Boylston Street, you know, back
all the city because we'd outside public drink and whatever.
I had a little bit of a glow on it.
And I was basically like telling him like, you're going to like show the way.
You're going to show Thornton the way.
You're going to lead the way to teach him.
He's like, look at him.
I'm like, get this donkey out of my face.
But yeah, a little drunk and escapade 20-something years ago with him.
But either way, congrats the Patrice Burrers.
One of the all-time best Bruins ever.
You guys are just talking about trades.
This one's from Darren Draga.
Vinnie Trocheck, his hired Pat Brisson in CAA to represent him moving forward.
Trochick was a target of trade speculation headed into the deadline.
So this change will fuel more of that in days ahead per Draga.
Lots of teams interested, no big surprise there.
But I don't think you guys mentioned the Ross Colton trade, did you?
No.
No.
Okay, yeah.
Pretty significant trade.
Ross Colton went to the Predators,
along with a goaltender prospect, Isaac Posh.
He was an undrafted free agent.
I played a couple of years in the HL,
went to St. Cloud State.
Going back to Colorado was another Swedish goalie.
Magnus Crona, the third in 26th and the third in 27th.
So, yeah, I mean, Colton, I mean,
I thought he did a good job in Colorado.
I think it's our case, maybe, what's his name?
McFowland went to Nashville.
Maybe he knows what he has.
He's a known commodity to the GM there.
Well, what did they get back?
Two-thirds.
He makes $4 million.
Yeah, good, good legs, good speed on them.
I just think that like you,
they're going to need a little bit more cap space,
maybe to make some more significant moves.
And I think that a team like Colorado usually is pretty good
and going to replace what Colton can provide at a cheaper value.
Like I have no doubt that they'll be able to go find that.
They have great management.
Well, they did lose, obviously, McFarland to Nashville.
So, you know, maybe they lose a little bit of that skill set up
top in management. But yeah, I mean, four million bucks.
It's kind of a lot for he's, I mean, you would easily consider him a bottom six guy, right?
Yeah, he's got a, he could play up and down in a lot, but yeah. Middle six. He's, he's a
UFA after this year. Maybe that had something to do with it. Yeah.
Guys, we got a little breaking news here.
Elliot Friedman. Now that the league is cleared Mike Babcock, word is the oilers will formally
begin the process of hiring him, contract negotiations, etc. Assuming no slags,
timeline appears to be early next week.
There we go, baby.
I'll tell you, it's going to be a story for the ages watching this.
And I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they have a phenomenal year.
They got rest.
They got two of the best players in the world.
And they got a Stanley Cup winning coach now.
Now, if this thing fizzles and becomes a disaster,
it's an all-time egg on the face look for the Edmonton Oilers.
But based on talking to the leadership committee and group
that talk to Babcock,
they believe that this is the guy
that can get him over the hump.
People keep saying it gives Connor an easy out.
Like, what do you mean?
Like, it was his fucking decision to hire him as coach.
I mean that it's a shit show now.
And he can just say after this all unfolds
and it doesn't work because what we're being told
is that this came from ownership,
that ownership presented this idea to the leadership group
and he agreed to it.
Well, maybe he goes to when he's going to say,
this is just too fucking much.
This didn't work.
It didn't work again.
I have fucking ownership coming to me saying we should hire Mike Babcock.
Are you joking?
Let's go somewhere else and just get rid of this shit show.
I don't know.
I don't know.
What do you feel about it?
He could have just said, hey, no, it's not the guy.
Yeah, I think that it just all depends on how they do this year.
It doesn't really matter.
Like, they just have to win.
If they don't win, maybe he's gone.
I believe in what Stoff's saying that he won't be.
and that he doesn't plan on going anywhere.
I want to hear Stoff's opinion on this hire.
Soft will come on this summer for sure.
Okay.
Biz, I wonder if this week, well, since the cup ended,
any indication, seems like teams might be really horny to make some trades.
I mean, we had, you know, three significant ones this week already.
It seems like there's a lot more chatter than usual.
So the, the hues are going to end up in Jersey.
Like, it's fucking, yeah, there's a lot.
Is it after a week from today?
Next weekend, right?
I believe, yeah.
not this weekend next week and 20s, right?
Yeah, I definitely see a lot of action happening now.
I think that just, you know, people seeing the way that Vegas have approached things
and maybe not valuing draft picks as much.
Well, they're just jealous, that's all.
That's it, baby.
That's it.
Switching over to another sport, the 040, the World Cup.
Have you been watching much of this?
I know what thought I've been watching.
What about you?
Yeah.
Where do you go?
Canada's got a big gun tonight,
their whole group tied their first games.
Yeah, Qatar.
They got Qatar.
I, yeah, I'm jumping on the team Canada wagon.
Actually, I think we can get the coach on for an interview.
It just so happens to be American.
I've sent you about three text messages about it.
You've not replied to it.
Wayne Gretzky also said he would come on,
but we have to get the coach on.
It's kind of like a, a little bit of collateral.
What?
Have done?
I'd love to.
Okay, love it.
Love it.
I mean, are you rattled that an American's coaching
your squad. An American's not coaching the Americans, so.
I know. You were the one who originally kind of explained this to me how the coaches,
it doesn't matter, and they can kind of just hop around. No, but it is surprising that a team
has never won the World Cup with a coach not from their country.
Wow. Now, that's always been a coach from that country. I could have got, I could have got
swindled reading that tweet and it could be completely fake, but it is not that like,
rare at all to see the coach of a national team not be from that country.
To clarify,
you're saying a team has never won the World Cup with a coach that's not from that country?
Yeah, gee, can you look that up?
All right.
Yeah.
No, that's a good little fun fact, even if it's not true,
a little salt and pepper on the steak.
Exactly.
Oh, go ahead, busy.
Well, first of all, Keith left.
He's got his girls across tournament and veil.
So it's just going to be the three of us, if that's okay, three-man panel here.
Old school.
The most fascinating story Jeff brought up to me,
and it's a player in the World Cup.
He stood on his head against Spain.
I'm going to have to pull up his name.
He had 50,000 Instagram followers before this game.
Oh, the Cape Verdi goalie?
Yes.
Didn't it get up to 2 million?
Buddy, he's at 15 million Instagram followers.
That tells you how big soccer is.
One game standing on his head.
He gained like whatever, 13, 14 million followers on Instagram.
That changes your life.
Like you could just, you could be doing.
Yeah, he texted our group chat here at home.
And who were they playing against again?
Spain.
He's like, dude, this is the most dominating game I've ever seen.
Like, and this goal he's stand his head.
So I clicked it on.
It looked like Spain had three more players on the field.
It was nuts what this guy was doing.
And his last name, I believe, is Vezna.
similar, yeah, V-O-Z-I-N-H-A, but it also bids you.
I think you're buried the lead.
He's 40 years old.
They just like dug him out of the scrap heap recently, but 40 years old,
playing at that level.
And that's huge, man.
I mean, Spain's a global power.
And then we saw similar a couple of the next day, Ghana, I'm sorry, not Ghana, Congo.
They tied Portugal.
I mean, Portugal is another world power.
I think it was their first, second time of the World Cup,
the first time since 1974 back when they were known as Zaire way back then.
So these are, you know, small countries that are, you know,
I mean, a tie is as good as a win,
when you're looking at these two teams.
Plus what Messi did the other night,
the Natty-Haddy for the 3-0 win over Algeria.
That was just unbelievable.
And I think, honestly,
like, they've been a big knock on soccer,
at least in this country, it's boring.
But I don't know, man, the more you watch it,
you just, you appreciate the strategy.
Well, I think you appreciate the World Cup
because of the fandom and the chance
and everything that's going on.
I mean, Portnoy's video about the Scots taken over Boston was incredible
about how Norway does the rowing.
Yeah.
Up the escalation.
Roll. They do it out
at the field as well, but
yeah, it's amazing, man. It's cool
to see. And, yeah,
Ghana, that was on the great game. They get the buzzer be
or they beat Panama and that extra time. And that's
the one thing about soccer too is, you
just don't know when the final whistle's going to go, right? Like, I mean,
referee just blows it. They'll have like five or six
minutes, like the plus five, but you really don't know
exactly when it's going to go. It's not like hockey or
basketball where it's like a set time.
Yeah, no. And so they,
They've also expanded.
So like obviously all these superpower teams get to play against some of the bottom feeders,
which it's cool.
It's good to get the bottom feeders experience.
Like,
you know,
just has more people watching the tournament.
And it also gets the superstars going.
Like you see that.
Is it Hogland guy?
He had two goals,
I think, right?
He had two goals.
Erlin Holland.
Yeah.
Mbapay had two.
And then,
and then Messi had the hat trick.
There was this crazy bet that somebody put out there.
I sent the tag.
to the group chat.
Yeah, bet in the book,
bet in the book,
he think I'd fall.
Yeah, he had a $800.
Yeah, it was like almost 10 grand for a hundred.
Yeah, the guy put $180
down and ended up winning like,
whatever it was, like, like $45,000 or something crazy.
What was the bet?
For those three guys to have at least two goals each.
Yeah.
He hit it out of the park.
Yeah, good stuff.
And it gets the superstars going.
Everybody's talking about it, like Zlatans on the broadcast,
carving that a,
another American broadcast.
So yeah, I've been reading.
I've been reading, it's Alexi Lalas
that he's just like basically
like, buddy, get away from me.
No, I think that's Lufthans
actually playing it well.
Listen, man, I would always root for the French
because like my, all my mother was raised
in Belgium and I just like, oh, France, whatever.
Canada wasn't even in the World Cup
at the time.
If she was raised in Belgium, why not root for Belgium?
I don't know.
I just, because they weren't really a powerhouse.
It was just easier to get all your French.
well I'm not I'm not from there either right so I'm Canadian Canada
didn't have a team in the World Cup of the time and France was like unreal I think they
might have won it when I was like when Tari Henri was there I feel like Henri's been a bit of
like a little bit more obnoxious about carving that guy even though like he's just kind of like
rolling his eyes nonstop it's like hey have a little bit more fun with it like I feel like
latans having rather than Henri being a little bit more of like kind of like a serious douche
Belgium has that DeBron guy that plays for Manit City.
He's sick.
I think Belgium's always been pretty good.
But it seems like France and Spain are the two,
I guess Argentina won the last one.
I didn't even know if Messi was still playing in World Cups after the last one,
and he gets a hat trick in the first game.
So obviously the MLS hasn't slowed him down at all.
Yeah, his sixth World Cup he's played in 38 years old.
Yeah, still looks awesome out there.
And that England-Croat game was awesome as well.
I don't know if you caught that one last night.
I went, you know.
Yeah, England ended up pulling it off, what, four, two?
Yeah, it was a one goal game down,
and then they got one, I think it might even have been an extra time
when they got the fourth goal, but very entertaining.
I'm loving the Ronaldo drama and the fact that, like,
it seems like the team, and they just want them on the bench
and they want to roll without them, but it's Ronaldo, so you can't.
I don't know if he's still the same, like, player.
I don't think he's the same player.
And so now it's like, are you even better without him?
Or does he come in late?
Did he start their game and play it?
He couldn't have played the whole game.
I think so.
Yeah, I'm not sure if he started.
But yeah, they yanked him.
They yanked him.
And after they were like congratulating the other team at the end when they were shaking
hands, he kind of just stood off to the side like a sour puss.
Oh, he's such a fucking sour puss.
I can't stand him.
But like we mentioned before, you know what, though?
This term, it has been great for not just North America,
about for the United States business.
It almost feels like this was like perfect time.
And it was just sort of like serendipity that, you know,
the world's been a fucked up place lately.
And, you know, it's just been a lot going on.
I'll leave it at that.
And I don't know, it just, I think America is reminding all our visit is like, you know,
we're a good host and we're happy to have you.
And you've just been seeing it everywhere where it's down Texas with the Netherlands,
down Mexico City with the Koreans and the Mexicans having fun.
And up in Canada, it just seems like, I don't know, man.
I just haven't seen this much like global kinship in a long time.
I agree with you.
It's like it goes back to the saying, like it's not as bad as they portray it on TV.
They're just trying to get your emotions going.
It's fucking, it's a joke.
It goes back to the CBC in the way that they portray America.
I'm a Canadian and it drives me absolutely nuts.
Like when my parents say, my parents say like, oh, like maybe we're not going to come down to the States this year.
Like it doesn't seem that safe.
I'm like, mom, like I live in fucking Scottsdale.
There's nothing going on here.
You're going to see more crookoons as Army calls them hanging out and, and, and,
downtowns in Canada, then you will
here in the States, like, or
any other bullshit going on. So it's
kind of like, it's just a complete
fabrication in most cases.
Yes, do certain countries
have their issues? Absolutely.
The United States is a beautiful country
and there's a lot of amazing things
about it, including Canada as well.
It's all bullshit on the news.
It's cool, like the Mexico, the games
in Mexico look wild. I was watching
him yesterday in Toronto, look great.
All right. I,
I feel like you're prime for showing up to the Scotland Morocco game tomorrow night.
Did you look into tickets?
I didn't look into tickets.
I have no idea what the prices are right now.
I mean, if someone said he called me up and had a ticket, I would definitely jump all over it.
But, I mean, I'm assuming even FaceVag is got to be crazy.
I mean, I know what they were charging.
And right now, it's like, yeah, you know, I would definitely go in a heartbeat, but you're
probably going to leave today because the traffic, I guess, getting out of there with the trains
and people couldn't get Uber's or whatever.
but oh, I'll be down for it 100%.
But Morocco drew with Brazil.
So that's, I guess that's a tough test for Scotland.
Yeah.
I mean, you're seeing these fans, it's hard not to root for Scotland to get out of their group somehow.
Honestly, what I don't ever remember like this scenario in Boston before where I think they said there's almost like 30,000 Scots in town where they just sort of have adrenalized the city.
Like I've never seen everyone is going out to go where they are like, you know, cop slide where the cop went down there.
slide at City Hall a million miles an hour.
You know, I went out Saturday night, walked around, and the cops were wicked cool.
They were just letting people hang out, you know, because bars were open at 3 o'clock
a lot of them are.
And they were like three, four dozen people just hanging out of a cop's light.
No one drinking smoke was just hanging out, chilling.
It was just like just, like I said, just a vibe in the city that I can't remember the last
time it's been like that.
So it's good stuff, man.
It's all good stuff all over the place.
So let's see, my classic recommendation for this week, it's on Netflix, the big Lubowski,
the Stoner classic from the Cohen brothers
Basically a mistaken identity comedy classic
Jeff Bridges
John Goodman, Steve Buscemi
Now when I first saw it back in the 90s at the theater
I didn't get it right away
It's one of those ones
The more you watch it the more you pick up
First time I watched it I was like I can't stand this movie
And then
The Big Lebowski?
Yeah I don't know
It was a long time ago
I was just like ah
Like you know the scene when he's like
Up in the air
Like levitating it was just kind of goofy
But the more I've watched
watch them, it's, it's hilarious.
Yeah.
I mean, what's the actor's name who plays the bowler who's, he's hilarious?
Oh, John Tuttle?
Yes.
The dirtbag.
Yeah.
The dirtbag.
Who the guy who licks the ball?
Jesus?
Yeah.
Yeah.
But yeah, it's one of those ones you, like I said, it's a cult classic.
It grows on you more and more.
And, you know, John Goodman, absolutely hilarious.
And it's just like an unhinged Vietnam veteran and to shoot people in a
bow and alley.
That's in my top 10 rotation.
Like, I'll at least watch that like one or two times a year.
Okay.
The Big Lebowski.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good, good stuff.
A couple of.
Netflix recommendations.
I watched the other night.
It just hit last week.
What the fuck is this?
Clearly you're not a golfer.
Market Donnie.
It was called Office Romance with J-Lo and Brett Goldstein.
He's the dude from, he plays Roy Kent on Ted Lassow.
He actually co-wrote this movie.
And, you know, I don't really watch a lot of romantic comedies these days.
I throw it on the other night when my cousin said it was pretty good.
And honestly, it's way better than the average romantic of the comedy.
I know J-Lo kind of made her bones with those movies back.
shit 20-something years ago.
But it was pretty witty.
It was funny.
It's a little raunch to it too.
I think you say, if you look and even not necessarily be your girlfriend or whatever,
but if you just want to watch a pretty good,
romantic comedy, office romance, I enjoyed that.
If you shop on Netflix as well, something about Mary,
another class of comedy.
If you'd never saw that.
That's a good one.
It's hilarious. Well, I mean, I don't think I ever saw a theater laugh that much,
like when I saw it.
I actually saw a sneak preview biz, like before it came out,
and then it was so goddamn funny.
brought my friends two nights later.
I saw it like twice in three days and I don't think I ever saw a theater
laughed that much.
What's the most you ever saw one particular movie in the theater?
Only three that I can remember.
I did a three banger.
Yeah, I saw Goodfellas three times.
I saw a standby and meet three times.
But I don't think I've won four times.
Of course, you know, once, you know, I had a VHS or VCR, so, you know, you can watch it
at home and not have to like pay $10 or whatever.
Did you ever, did you ever double dip with?
No.
Never one time?
No.
Never even considered it.
Really?
I don't think.
As far as I mean,
I have a tough time watching a movie like at all closely to the time I first
watched it again.
Do you get what I'm saying?
Yeah.
I have to see a,
I have to have not seen a movie for a while to watch it again.
Interesting.
Yeah.
I went and saw a man on fire three times.
in the movie theaters,
probably within like a 10-day span.
With the,
obviously the Denzel one, right?
Denzel.
No shit, huh?
With that, who's the girl?
She was excellent.
Oh, uh,
Fanning, uh,
Dakota Fanning.
Dakota Fanning.
Yeah,
yeah,
it was actually a remake.
I would trade you,
her life for your life.
Did you,
did you used to sneak in the movies,
biz,
when you were young?
No.
Really?
No.
Then,
so I guess then I never snuck into three movies
in one day.
That's my record of a sneaking in.
Okay, so you,
Okay.
So you would be in the theater and then you would just bounce over to another movie.
Yeah, like you would kind of map out.
I never did that.
No.
I was probably like, you know, 11 to 12 years old.
And yeah, you see, all right, this one's playing at one.
This one's playing at three.
This one's playing at five.
And then go over one to the other.
Yeah, after.
I'm staying for another one.
I'm staying for another one.
That's how R.A. became a janitor.
He would pretend he was a janitor there just like fuzzin around,
scooping up popcorn and then just watch the movie.
Another one I want to mention.
Do you ever see chef with John Favreau?
Unreal movie.
Gray flick this.
He basically,
yeah,
he's having some business issues or whatever.
He starts a food truck.
Oh, yeah,
I saw that.
Yeah,
and you're like watching a porno mate,
might make you a little horny.
Watching chef makes you hungry,
hungry as a bastard,
because all the way they filmed all the food stuff.
So that and,
uh,
one last one.
Did he have a hot Latino wife in that one?
Yeah.
Or ex wife.
Sophia Vergara, right?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
It was his ex.
And then he brings his kid on the food truck.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's good stuff.
And one last one, 1982, great comedy with Dustin Hoffman, Tutsi.
He plays a frustrated actor who basically decides to like dress up as a woman so he can get more roles.
Again, this is 1982, but it's like an everlasting comedy.
What's the word? Evergreen.
It's still hilarious.
Great cast, Jessica Lang, all kinds of funny people.
But yeah, I think it was nominated for Best Picture back on the day.
Might even one for writing.
But Dustin Hoffman, Tutsi, give that a world if you're looking for something else.
and yeah, you don't think that might be about it.
Actually, we'll do one All right Hamilton to wrap up here.
I got to get going here, but what's the All right Hamilton?
All right, Hamilton.
All right, this is easy.
Since it was just National Mascot Day, this is from Gutterino 77.
If every NHL mascot got drafted into a battle royal, who's the bet in favorite and who's
getting eliminated first?
Because this is right up your rally.
Gritty's stabbing you to death.
Gritty's the favorite.
I mean, he's definitely the chalk because he's an animal.
And, I mean, is Bowie going to last?
is boy going to be check-head.
He can't do anything right.
Runs out of it.
Yeah, he's got no way.
Something soft.
I think alliances would have a lot to do with it.
I'm curious to know, does chance
the,
the healer monster.
Are they poisonous?
Yes.
Yes, one of the very few poisonous lizards out there.
Yeah.
So he can just bite you, then it's game over.
You would probably be at the top of the list.
And you know, Pinky and the brain would be there fucking
cooking up some deals in the background to get a more
help from other mascots.
Well, as we wrap it up, the final thing is just heartbreaking, and that's the passing of
Kyle Calder.
Greece, as everyone knew him, incredible guy.
I was lucky enough to play with him in Anaheim.
That was his last year playing in the NHL.
His daughter put out a post.
I think that was the first time anyone even saw.
I had saw that he was sick, and it says it was an illness.
I don't really know what happened, but an unbelievable person.
Army knew him very well.
They trained together in the summers, and Army was, he was crushed by this news.
And it's really hard to talk about guys that are so young that, you know, I played with.
A lot of guys had the chance to play with me.
He was beloved by his teammates.
He was living in Chicago.
I know he was coaching his son's team at one point, and it's just horrible.
We saw him.
When were we out in Chicago?
Remember we were at that speakeasy?
we ran into Greece.
Winter classic a few years ago.
Winter classic.
And just getting to catch up him was awesome.
Funny guy and great player.
It's just,
that was horrible news to see.
And it's tough.
He's just so young.
So young.
So family,
his kids,
it's just heartbreaking stuff.
So I wanted to mention Kyle Calder
at the end of this and rest in peace
and we're thinking of his family
and everything right now
because,
you know,
you find out
alumni passed at such a young age
and it's like, God, every one of these
hits you harder than the one before.
It's just brutal, brutal news.
So kind of a tough way to end the show,
but I loved getting the chance
to get to know him a little bit that year in Anaheim.
Awesome person.
It just sucks, so.
Well, said, Woody.
Well, condolences to him and to the family
and like to Army, I'm going to give Army a buzz
and talk to him about this.
Yeah, it sucks.
And this is our last live episode.
So I want to thank everyone at Netflix, Jason, Steve and Nick from Barsdool, all the late nights and all the stuff that they've done to help us be able to be live throughout the playoffs.
Thank you so much, guys.
Much appreciated.
It's a fun thing to do live in the playoffs and some of the late night ones.
I know you guys were staying up extra late with us.
So we appreciate it.
And to all you guys who tuned in, we appreciate it.
Back on next Tuesday, G.
Yep.
Yeah, we'll drop Tuesdays.
record on Mondays and drop Tuesdays in the summer, just like we used to do.
All right.
Love you guys.
Love you all listening.
Thank you to Martinuk Hall and Jacob Slavin.
And have a great weekend, everyone.
