Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, Spit and Chicklets listeners, you could find every episode on Apple Podcast and Spotify. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Me and Ryan have been officially welcomed to the jungle that is basketball sports. I brought it toward the coyotes, and I asked him if it was okay if I joined the Spit Chick-Chiclets podcast full-time. Ryan Whitney's got a pink Whitney out there now. This is a standbacker. Get that on camera. Pete Yandel, the song, man. Keith is a full-time member.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Merle just got an assist from Chris Bates. Whoa, we're buzzing right now. Sunk. We are back, boys. Oh, my God. The NHL has finally arrived. It is the day we've all waited for, Biz, Keith, Murrells. Thanks for joining us this show.
Starting point is 00:00:52 But shout out first, the beginning of hockey, but not the beginning of Pinkies Up, boys. pink, pink Whitney's everywhere. We've talked many times about the competition. Show your pinky. Show us the greatest pinky out there. Win money. Get on a billboard. You know, look at Merr's got the bottom.
Starting point is 00:01:11 I'm surprised if things not gone. After a long, rainy weekend with the Nor'easter. I had some real issues, boys. And they remain still right now. I can talk to you about that in a minute. But, Biz, what's going on? Are you ready to go? I'm ready to go, buddy.
Starting point is 00:01:25 I had a great weekend back home. Just relax. got my energy stored up and it's going to be a hell of a week. We get things kicked off. Well, this is going to drop on Tuesday. So this is the start of the NHL season. I get things going on Wednesday on T&T, kicking things off with the Battle of Pennsylvania.
Starting point is 00:01:41 And then we get to see the two old folks homes go at it. We get to see the Colorado Avalanche and the L.A. Kings, the two oldest teams in the league go out at late night. They're getting out past their bedtime. I do. You just brought up the old goats. Then I reminded me of you, in Colorado, Keith Dog, Colorado,
Starting point is 00:02:00 then your dog, Minnesota, Keith Dog, Minnesota. Merles is the original hater of the wild. What did you think about Billy G, getting on TV, getting ready for the season, and reminding the world, why would you listen? What do I think of it or what does Merle's think of it?
Starting point is 00:02:16 I've never been happier in my life when I heard you two guys going against Minnesota. Like, thank God. They'll all leave me alone now. That was one of the hardest months of my life last year in the playoffs having to root against them. My DM's getting flooded with all those fans. So I thank you guys for taking all that.
Starting point is 00:02:35 And, you know, I'm always been a Billy G guy. So I loved him calling you out the other night. In fairness to you. They didn't even get mentioned. How does that happen? He was like, I agree with you. He was right behind me. Mind you, Merle's never got called out on TV.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Merle's called them frauds. I just said they weren't going to make playoffs. and that Quinn Hughes was going to get traded. And that's why I thought that. And mind you, Army was orchestrating all this because he was on site in Minnesota. He was orchestrating all this trying to sewer us to our good friend Billy G.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Wow. Yeah, I think he might have told them originally. That's where he first heard. Now, Biz, I do want to give you the chance to address and for people who don't know, what Billy G said was, why would you ever listen to a guy about playoff hockey who never played in the playoffs?
Starting point is 00:03:23 But, Biz, he's really, he's really. wrong by one second, I believe, correct? Fake news. Fake news. I don't think we can roll the clip because we don't have the rights, but Yans was there. He saw me step on the ice and then leave one second later down the tunnel, which, mind you, I remember Stan Wilson apologizing to me saying like, oh, I always checked the fighting straps.
Starting point is 00:03:44 I'm pretty sure he undid mine. So they get a little bit more room on the bench being like, we don't, let's just let let them fight. And then we get more leg room. This guy fucking rides to Harley on here anyway. Let's go. let's get them out of here. So I did my job.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I was down the tunnel. Now, I have a theory as to two theories. And maybe both are the reason that I was so negative and down on the central to the whole central. Really? Minnesota. Minnesota, Colorado and Dallas.
Starting point is 00:04:14 I had already talked about the Louisiana purchase beforehand. And those three states are involved in it. So I'd already like blown my nut. on positivity when it comes to the state of Minnesota, Texas, and Colorado. And then when it came to them, I just was kind of like fed up about talking about those states. And I was really down and out on them. So I fucked that one up. And my other theory is that Wontan brought some trail mix with them to peaking.
Starting point is 00:04:45 And it was laced with like ketamine from fucking Mincy's house. So I think that that, yeah, I think that that was still having its effects on. me and I wasn't thinking straight. And if I could have a redo, I would have Minnesota in playoffs. And the reason also I say that is even if Quinn Hughes was saying, hey, I'm not going to tell you I'm resigning anywhere until the off season. I still think Billy G carries his balls around in a wheelbarrow and that he would say, okay, you don't have to tell us.
Starting point is 00:05:16 I'm still riding with you. And he would ride with Quinn Hughes all the way to the end of the season, knowing that he might not get the return back that he gave up for him. which is kind of crazy. And I'd be interesting if we pulled Minnesota fans or even just to ask you guys right now if you were GM of the Minnesota Wild and he was telling you coming near the deadline,
Starting point is 00:05:37 hey, I don't know, I'm not going to be able to tell you what I'm doing to the off season. And they're in a playoff spot. Would you just ride with him for the rest of the year in playoffs? If they're playing well, they're running, they're going out a good clip.
Starting point is 00:05:50 I think you have to. You got to roll the dice. I agree with you. some fans would be pissed because, you know, you trade a lot for a guy. Really? I don't think. What if they don't, what if they lose first round? That, then it's just the ultimate, like, the perfect storm.
Starting point is 00:06:07 But, dude, if they're good this year, which I think they will be, and they're sitting in a top three spot in the central and there's a chance that people are mentioning them as cup contenders and you trade them, it's like the season's done. Like, you can't do that. Now, remember, Columbus kept Panarin and. But it, but it's also. So maybe not because maybe you're able to get like a good second line center back and or or a couple good pieces that provide you more depth up front. And like I'm not trying to be down and out on the Minnesota wild.
Starting point is 00:06:39 I was talking to Pasha afterward. I know he might not be the best guy to talk about this. In this situation, he might be the worst. They lost Teresenko. I think he had 20 goals last year. They lost Johansson. I believe he had close to 20. And there was one other forward they lost.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Zook. Zook. And then Zook, who was pretty substantial towards their power play. So they've lost a lot of firepower where he also said, outside of Boldie and Capri Soff, it's pretty thin on the wings. Like, it's not like, and we're talking about a division in a conference that at the top is pretty strong.
Starting point is 00:07:14 I think that there's a strong possibility that they're in a wild card situation when playoff time comes around. That's it. Part of was part of you saying if you could have a mulligan, you'd probably change that pick. Were you getting crushed in the messages? The wild fans are rabid. Were they?
Starting point is 00:07:33 I almost went into an insane asylum because of them. No, I personally don't give a fuck about that. The reason I would want to redo is because I only had three teams in the Pacific. So currently I only have seven teams in the West. They can playoff. So that's why I want the redo. And. Fair.
Starting point is 00:07:52 And I would, just because I'm such a mush, I would actually want to make a Draft King's bet and call it the Louisiana purchase bet where actually Colorado, Dallas, and mini lock up the top three spots in the central. I don't even know if you can do that. It's like minus 400, I bet. Like I don't know if there's anyone in the world besides us
Starting point is 00:08:15 who don't have them finishing top three in the central. Okay. I think I had Utah in there. that second pick at plus 475 on draft Kings. Well, maybe we won't be able to get that with draft Kings, but before we go any further, Murals, you're going to be doing this new chasing goals thing all season long, like storm chasers, but goal chasing.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Yeah, so me and Elio, last year we kind of dabbled into it. We did, I think, three or four of them where we got out there and we pick a city, we pick a game where we knew there's going to be some goals. It's almost like a mini ice con. And now this year, thanks to draft Kings, we got a set schedule. We got nine different places we're going and we start off opening night in Boston. So tonight as this thing's air will be in Boston.
Starting point is 00:09:00 We're going to be at the greatest bar before. So we'll be meeting the fans. And the same thing. Like in a month we're going down to New York City. There's a new bar right across from Barstool office called Canuck True North hockey bar. So we'll meet there. And then we're going to go to the Rangers game that night. And, you know, it's a little difficult when we had to plan the games this far in advance.
Starting point is 00:09:19 like it's going to be tough to get these overs. But we'll be there. We'll be chasing the goals. Me, L.E.O. PJ. And then everywhere we go, we're going to add a couple guys in. Like this trip tomorrow, R.A. and G. are going to join us. If we're in New York, guy like Rico Bosco will join us. And just wherever we are, we're going to add different pieces.
Starting point is 00:09:39 Maybe Vegas, we bring bloody out. So it should be a good time. So you got nine games? Nine games. I don't, I want the opposite to happen. But I'm going to need draft king. to drop a bet where I can bet you don't hit one of them. I would say two in seven.
Starting point is 00:09:56 It's best case scenario. It's best case scenario. Although Elios had a lot of success, I think, traveling for the goals. Yeah, we did good last year. Yeah, okay. And then we crushed IceCon. IceCon was done in the middle of the second period.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Everybody took off, went to the bar. It was great. Okay. Oh, that was so fun when we did it at Mullet Arena. Remember the empty netter that was missed? for him to pull the goalie. Remember that? He wasn't going to pull the goalie. And they did. Now, Yance, considering you were on my side about Minnesota missing playoffs, but the stipulation was if Quinn Hughes did get traded.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Do you think that us kind of revving things up in the Central had any influence on that preseason game the other night? I don't know. Actually, all the games have kind of been chippy. I don't know if it's I don't know if it's because you're only guaranteed too. The guys are trying to show what they can, you know, the bubble guys are trying to show what they can do. I don't know if we had too much to do with that game, being the gong show that happened at the end, but maybe a little bit.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I thought it was unreal. Like, when was the last time you saw preseason games like that? There was a couple Florida, Tampa, I remember. There's been a bunch so far. I mean, what was the Calgary game? The Florida Tampa ones, the last few years had been pretty, pretty good. Like when they'd put like Scotty Sabrin. Sabrin, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:15 And then all, yeah, you know, all hell is going to break loose. I do wonder, oh, also I should quickly mention, we have announced Chicklets Cop October 8th to 10th in Boston at the Harpoon Brewery. So there's a big party on Thursday night. That's the welcome party, then another party Friday night. So the welcome party for the players Thursday, public party Friday night. If you're in Boston or traveling, please check it out. It was a blast last year.
Starting point is 00:11:41 So we're going to get to see that action again with the, what was your team again, Keith? The stranglers. The stranglers. With the bagpipes. versus biz is um i mean big deal the biggest big deal select mushes of all time there's no chance they went what's more likely mur goes nine for nine in picking overs on the chasing goals or you win i'm gonna go nine for nine that's how bad you guys are but chicklets cup is back i can't wait for that are we gonna are we are we playing yans's team in the round robin i don't know i would imagine schedule has been released
Starting point is 00:12:14 yeah you guys harry ryan coming down this year terry ryan coming down this year Terry Ryan is playing. He had a big commercial shoot last year with McDavid that he had to miss, which, A, man, you know, he's a big deal now with Shorzie and everything popping off. Like, he's reached a different stratosphere. But I'll promise you this, it hasn't gone to his head. He's been training his cock off. We got a few extra guys in the mix that we've brought to our team.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Oldie will be our backup goalie. So we got the positive juju and his fumpa or whatever the fuck you call that thing around his dick. Mudflap. the mud flaps. And I honestly think I've talked to Terry. It seems like this will be the last run at it. And if it doesn't go well that I don't know if there's, I don't, you keep,
Starting point is 00:12:58 you guys keep saying like, oh, like we've heard that before. It's like, no, you didn't. The only time you heard the fact that we wouldn't be back was if we lost to the Boston Stranglers.
Starting point is 00:13:08 And we didn't. We went past farther them. So we've never made the promise of we don't win it. See you later. But this year you're doing that? I'm let me talk to terry. Maybe maybe we get Terry on on Thursday to see what our team has has come in for chicklets cup but ultimately I love doing it in Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:13:30 It's hard to top Boston in that location and what we were able to do last year and traveling does make it a little bit easier. We've had some very special Chicklets cups and I look forward to to having a very, very special one this year again at Harpoon Brewery. Luckily, it wasn't this weekend. Nor'Easter just crushed it. Stuck inside all weekend. What is this?
Starting point is 00:13:53 What? The Nor Eastern. I keep hearing about this thing. Yeah, it's a big storm. Like, not a hurricane, a little less. I mean, I think noticeably less than a hurricane. How are the winds? The winds, I think my house caught like a 40 mile an hour gusts, 50 maybe.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Maybe not, maybe, on the ocean, for sure, 50. Now, the problem was we're in the house all weekend. It's poor and can't really go outside. and finally Sunday night I'm like I'm going to bed It's 9 o'clock My wife said he's going to bed
Starting point is 00:14:21 I never go to bed earlier I'm like we got a big show We're doing tomorrow First week By the way it's our 10th NHL season As a podcast So show it out us 10 years here we go
Starting point is 00:14:30 Longer than I played in the NHL So you know You've wound down off a long weekend I got a cold right now And thank God I have the cold You'll know why in a second I'm grinding through this, you know, you're grinding in bad weather with little kids, and you're finally
Starting point is 00:14:48 ready to go to bed. And I hear downstairs, Bree's letting Yoshi out. Oh, shit. Oh, fuck, all. I'm like, what the hell's going on? I go downstairs. Yoshi was sprayed by a skunk. No.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Oh, my God. She let him in the house immediately. I think he might have ran by her into the house. I got to move. Yeah. My house smells like a skunk. Oh, no. talking from the far guest bedroom all the way across the estate to the garage.
Starting point is 00:15:21 I'm done. Thank God my nose isn't at full capacity right now. But even right now in my office, I got the windows open. It's pouring. And I smell skunk. And I don't know what to do about it besides grind through. You're going to start the year with a bang. I'm going to start the year with a skunk.
Starting point is 00:15:38 So we're 10 years in. And this goddamn smell is so bad. I don't know what, I don't know what to do. There's 16 different candles little across the house, but I'm grinding through this with you guys. You gotta do some incense. We've tried it all.
Starting point is 00:15:54 This house gets flooded and it gets skunked. It is cursed. What did you do with Yoshi right away after? Did you like tub? So apparently you're supposed to like not, well, he can't get wet, but the problem was it was pouring so he was soaked. So I said, get him out of the house
Starting point is 00:16:11 and he'd already gone into the kitchen. around the island, down into the living room. Then I drag, so that area is completely done. Now, we got him in the garage. The garage is ruined. Then she's on the computer. And she's like, I got to wash him now. And she made this like, I don't know, hydro, whatever.
Starting point is 00:16:29 She made this mixture and then she washed him with that. He smells great now. I heard pink Whitney can take away skunk smell. She might have rubbed that on him. That's what I heard. That's a good point. Or on your cut. Yeah, that's a good.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Good idea. Maybe I just pour pink Whitney all over the house. Forget the stickiness because it won't stink like a skunk anymore. So that's a tough one to start the 10th season with or the skunk spraying your house. I think it's good luck though for the oilers. I think that's a bird shitting on you, Thomas Jefferson. The oil. I think that's a bird shitting. I think it's like, I think it's like, oh she's also kind of, he's like orange, isn't he? He's got like a heavy. He's brown. He's brown. Oh, close. But yeah, it's just a tough start, but I'm grinding through it. I'm grinding through it. I'm grinding through it. And let me tell you somebody who isn't grinding through anything right now besides the pressure and the demanding nature of Rick Bonus. But that's Adam Fantali, boys. They got him signed. Six-year deal.
Starting point is 00:17:26 13.75 a year. Happy for him, man. He gives up two years of UFA. I think he wanted five years. There would only been one year of UFA. He gives up the two. He's making absolute bank. I think over 30 million of it is in signing bonus.
Starting point is 00:17:41 pretty standard for a lot of these other deals where it's not what they've done, it's what they're going to do. My question to you, Biz, or Mer or Keith, whoever, is like, everyone kind of figured after Carlson that it would be around here, right? So why does it happen? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:59 This, I don't get it. Now, maybe it's him not wanting to give that sixth year and the team wanting to get the number lower, but like when the whole world of hockey fans know that it's going to be around this number, or why does it end up happening where he maybe got one game in the preseason and now he's coming in late and like
Starting point is 00:18:16 whoever starts good when they miss camp even when it's shorter. I don't get this part of it. Do you agree with me? I had heard he was asking for Badaard's contract so that's what, 15. 15. So obviously he didn't get that. It's a million point one off but it's like at the end of the day
Starting point is 00:18:32 like you said Witt, you knew what this contract it was going to be, why wait around and do it? If he had signed last year, he probably would have been a lot less but you know, this year with all the guys signing, he gets an extra couple million unreal. But I think it's one of those things where is it worth him missing the last couple weeks to get that contract in? And I do appreciate the fact that he did the two extra years for Columbus.
Starting point is 00:18:56 It gives them more time with him and more time to build their team to get them to where they want to be. But I think at the end of the day, this should have been handled a couple months ago or whenever. But, you know, it's done. He's ready to go and, you know, the season will stay. for them. Guys, I hate to interrupt here, but you guys open the show talking about some comments made on on T&T by Billy Garen.
Starting point is 00:19:18 I figured it's a good idea to just bring him in now and you guys hash this all out. We got to hash this out before the season starts. You got him to come on? Oh, he's got better cabinets than I do for fuck. Yeah, he made it. He's a woodmaker. Billy G. It's great to see you.
Starting point is 00:19:34 It's great to see you. Look at all the cups back there. Billy G, like I'm a guy. We go way back, Massachusetts. I don't, I don't agree with these idiots. So thank you for joining my show. I appreciate it. I mean,
Starting point is 00:19:50 honestly, I always, I always thought it was your show. You're the driver. Thank you. You're the driver. And R.A. And R.A. I mean, you got the hockey dad hat guy, you got the half Swede. You know,
Starting point is 00:20:06 you got the circus clown. I mean, My God, we need a good Massachusetts guy driving the bus. Don't forget banana, man. Yeah, we got banana. Billy, gee, in fairness. You were hanging out with him making your comments. In fairness, before you got on, he actually wished that he could have a mulligan and changed his mind.
Starting point is 00:20:30 And he didn't even know you were coming. So he has realized maybe that the weed and just the hatred towards the wild has gone overboard. The ketamine laced mushrooms. The ketamine lace mushrooms didn't help on my hiking trip. Paul, I think you were, I think you were overserved whatever you were smoking that day. I, you know, I did, there was one part of it that was missed out here. It was, we'll call you Paul from now on, okay? Okay, call me whatever.
Starting point is 00:20:59 I mean, you run my show, Daddy. Way to go, Paul, smashes the glass. Okay, dad. I said if Quinn Hughes doesn't finish the year there, that that would. be my, my prediction. That's what I said. That's what I think was missing all that. Forget it, forget it then.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Forget it. You're saying, okay, I'll just, I'm going to sign off. If that's the case, and we'll just sign off. Billy, I, he texted me. I'm going to, I'm going to explain myself. He texted me before last. Can you hear Jans's accent?
Starting point is 00:21:29 Yes. That's why. Okay. And he texted me before last show and he said, I'm going to have a crazy take about Minnesota. Can you please have my back? So being a good teammate, I had his back. So you know I'm riding behind my back, Billy.
Starting point is 00:21:44 You know I'm riding with you, Billy. That is, I mean, making deals backstage. It's like biz at the red. That's like biz at the red line and warm-ups. Making deals. No deals. Tell me sticks, biz. You know what?
Starting point is 00:21:59 You know what breaks my heart? He goes up to the toughest guy in warm-ups and just makes a deal with him. Who's the second toughest guy? Maybe I'll fight him. I'm glad you brought up the red line, Billy G. And you know why I feel even worse about not picking you guys to make playoffs? Is you were in Pittsburgh at the time. I got put on waivers.
Starting point is 00:22:16 I got claimed by Arizona. And I loved Pittsburgh. I loved the organization. All the guys there. And I believe it was the third game into that season. I was with Arizona. You came up and you tapped me on the shit bay. He said, how are things going?
Starting point is 00:22:28 And I was obviously missing Pittsburgh. So that speaks volumes to the guy, the teammate you are, and the person you are. So now I feel even shittier about smoking all that PC. and picking you guys in the playoffs. Yeah. I'm sorry. I know you're trying to butter me up now. It's working a bit.
Starting point is 00:22:47 It's working a bit. But I was now, if it was now, you'd be. I was hurt. I know you have a job to do, Paul. But, you know, I was, I don't know. I was, I was hurt. How about, how about the other guy? Thank God you.
Starting point is 00:23:03 You don't know much about hockey. No, I know. I'll give you that. That's where I was just. I'll give you that. but how about another guy on this podcast right now and on the screen who went even far beyond saying, oh,
Starting point is 00:23:16 if Quinn Hughes gets moved, I don't think they miss, they make playoffs, but instead decided to call you guys frauds with Quinn Hughes. With Quinn Hughes in the lineup. He's American as far as about him. Merle's doubled down. Is he doubling down on that?
Starting point is 00:23:32 Billy's still mad at me because he caught me in Montreal walking around with my Swedish shirt out. If anybody knows what a fraud is, it's him. Yeah. So he's still mad at me for that. So I don't need to bring the wild in. I have the wild in the playoffs. I had the wild in the playoffs last year. My problem was they, I just knew they could not beat Colorado with the center depth they had.
Starting point is 00:23:51 And the front comment was supposed to be in a private conversation. That is true. A entire wild fan base. Talked that conversation or not. You just, that's a. Thank you, Billy G. That's even worse. That is a heavy, heavy word.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Well, because everybody was picking you to win the cup. but I just, I couldn't believe you'd win the cup with that center death. And tell me this year's different because you're off. How do you pronounce his name? You're off. Yeah, you're off. He's going to be, he's going to be the guy for you, second line center. Yeah, he's a really good player.
Starting point is 00:24:21 I mean, we believe in him a lot. You know, for his first year over, you know, I mean, like zero English when he first came over. And just kind of figuring it out. He put together a really good season. You know, he's one of those kids, a young kid. I mean, what do you always have to fight over with young kids? How to play defensively, right? 200-foot game.
Starting point is 00:24:46 It's kind of the opposite with this kid. We're like, he's got that. We trust him. We got to push him to play a little more offensively. So that right there just tells us that he's got a mature game. He knows what he's doing. He's not an issue. So we're really comfortable with him.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Yeah, I actually watched him play. and the Russian juniors a bunch. He was on that Magnita Gors junior team. They were always the top team. And so he knows how to win. I'm expecting big things from him. And that's why I do have you in the playoffs. They are not a fraud this year.
Starting point is 00:25:17 We'll see how the season progresses. But I love the Flino brothers. Marcus last game going crazy at the end, telling Dallas we got you four times this year. So they're going to be bringing the mayhem again. So I got you guys in. I love coming on and just have you guys backtrack all your shit, huh? We got no back phone.
Starting point is 00:25:35 This is the song podcast in the league. I put my knee pads on. Take the day off. You got to be exhausted carrying these guys around. But I just like to come on and just listen to you guys backtrack your shit to my base. Wait, wait till Babcock comes on someday. Wait till Babcock comes on someday. I'll be asking if I could do his laundry for him.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Billy, how excited are you for, you know, I've seen some clips of Boldie at camp, you know, just he just looks like he's grown into. to his body even more like him i don't want to say throwing around guys and but he he was like he looks like an absolute beast out there right now yeah he's i mean bolts just keeps getting better and better he i mean you guys know how it is he you kind of you hit a certain age and like you're then you start developing like kind of like real man strength like you're not a kid anymore you know i think he's like really into just kind of getting into that where he's an absolute beast down low.
Starting point is 00:26:37 I mean, the size skill combo on him is ridiculous and his talent level is through the roof. But, you know, when he comes, like, I think Jared Spurgeon said it, like, when he comes with the summer skates, like their captain's practices or whatever, you know, the level goes up. It goes up a couple notches because of him. And he's just, he's really figuring out this leadership thing. and I think he's starting to see how good he really is
Starting point is 00:27:07 and where his game can go and what he can do for us. And, you know, you saw it on the biggest stage in the world at the Olympics, how good he was and how much, you know, the coaching staff trusted him and wanted him out there. So he's becoming an elite player in the league. It's awesome to see. Billy, last week, Elliot Friedman, he dropped the news that the cap is going to hit 127 million.
Starting point is 00:27:33 million in two years. And as a GM, and congrats on your extension, me and you way back. Go Billy G. These three guys actually were disappointed in that signing by the wild. But how do you, how do you, like, that's got to be kind of crazy for all you GMs out there because now it's like, holy shit. Like our window and what we see in two years just completely flipped. And in Minnesota specifically where he'll spend.
Starting point is 00:27:58 And it's got to be odd now knowing how much more room you guys are going to have in the future. right? Yeah, I mean, it's hard to believe that we're at these, you know, these levels. But it does, it means the league's healthy. So that's good. I mean, all this is tied to league revenue. So they're just not like picking numbers out of a hat. This is all a, you know, a formula. So it'll be interesting to see how many teams are actually spending to the cap. I mean, it is, you know, It is a business too. And, you know, you have to make the money to spend the money and you have to, you know, teams don't like losing money.
Starting point is 00:28:39 So we'll see how many actually spend to the cap. But, man, there's a lot more money in the system. And, you know, I do believe it's a good thing because it just shows that the league is healthy. And our star players are star players just like in any other league. And, you know, we don't bat an eyelash when we hear, like I said a couple of weeks ago. Nobody bats an eyelash of, you know, a basketball player making 60 million a year or, you know, a quarterback making 50 a year. And, you know, I think, look at our guys, our stars in our league are as good athlete or better than any of those guys. So, you know, it's a good thing because
Starting point is 00:29:25 it's good for everybody. One of the reasons Witt said I needed a brain transplant after my prediction last week. Was because of this top four you got on the back end. I mean, you know, obviously Faber and Quinn Hughes. I mean, those guys are top elite. And then Brodeen and who's the other, Spurgeon. Like, that's a pretty lethal top four. Would you say that's kind of the engine that drives the bus?
Starting point is 00:29:54 Good thing you can count the four biz. Thanks. For Paul. Can he spell bus, though, is the question. Yeah, that's. Yeah, I mean, that is definitely a strength of our team. You know, and I think, you know, you go so far as to look at all six, Mata and Bogosian and the bottom pair who are both, you know, veteran guys, Stanley Cup winners. They kind of round out the decor, which is good because they're extremely trustworthy guys.
Starting point is 00:30:28 but yeah the top four guys are you know are a huge part of the team and you know what we do on the ice so it's nice to have billy we were talking about it a little bit earlier with Liam and the say that players have nowadays whether it's asking for a trade you know things like that and you being obviously a guy's guy a player that you know got everything that you deserve but you're now you're in the management side we you know you got to be the one showing out the money so how do you feel about like, you know, where it's at with the players and, you know, kind of putting their own future in their own hands. Well, to be quite honest, it's, it's been going, this has been going on for, forever.
Starting point is 00:31:10 I mean, guys have been asking for trades forever. It's just, you know, when donkeys like, when donkeys like Paul get a hold of this information, they just run with it and make it a goddamn soul popper. Yeah. What do you be out of like that? The podcast industry is ruined. going on forever. Not like this, Billy.
Starting point is 00:31:31 No way. The social media stuff is blowing it up. The thing is like, so when I put, you had to be 31 years old or 10 years in the league before you were a UFA where you could really make, you know, your big money for the most part
Starting point is 00:31:48 in a league. Now now even the middle of the road guys are making big money enough to say like, you know, I, they can take a chance or they can take a shorter deal. They can, they don't have to jump on a long-term deal. They, they, they feel empowered, you know, that way. As for guys asking for trades, look, that, like I said, that's been going on forever.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I mean, I did it way back in, you know, the late 90s. And it's just, it's just the way it was. So many guys have asked for trades over the years. This is not a new thing. And, you know, I was, my own personal situation was good because Lou took, he took good care of me. I asked him for a trade a week later. I was, I was out. And he just handled the problem.
Starting point is 00:32:45 And that was, that was it. It was good. How nervous were you going into Lou Lamarillo's office asking for a trade? I remember, honestly, we were on the road in Buffalo. and he kind of, I think he kind of knew because he broke, he kind of broke the eyes. He said, look, come down in my room, we got to meet. So we're sitting in his room. And he's like, what do you want to do here?
Starting point is 00:33:09 And I said, look, I just, I just think I'm done here. And I've been here for seven years or whatever it was. And I think I've just kind of clocked out. I don't know if Jacques and I were seeing eye to eye or I just kind of hit a wall there. And I said, I think the best thing for me is to go somewhere else right now. And he's like, you really feel like that. I said, yeah, yeah, I do. And he's like, okay, let me see what I can do.
Starting point is 00:33:37 A week later, gone. So I didn't know what the conversation was going to be, but he made it, he made it as easy as it possibly could be. Do you think most GMs or more GMs should take that approach of trying to make it easier rather than it's more of like a like on the boss type of thing. It's personal preference. I think it's different with every situation. I don't think you can tell any other GM how to do his job, first of all.
Starting point is 00:34:08 And then I think there's, there's, you know, different levels of all these situations, you know, is it, you know, and I hate to say it, but like, there are different levels of players. different levels of, you know, contracts, things like that. There's so much more that goes into it now, too. That was a non-cap era where you could just, you know, you're just trading, horse trading left and right. It didn't matter. So I think every individual case is different. And, you know, I think there's a time for everything.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I think there's a time for, you know, being, being stern and, there's a time for getting things done. Oh, you know, I mean, I had a holdout with Lou too. I thought I was worth so much. And he was like, nope. And that's he, he drew the line in the sand. And it stayed there until late November. And I had to sign if I wanted to play hockey.
Starting point is 00:35:16 And I ended up signing. But so there were you bad when you came back? Both times I held out twice. Oh. So I had to try fact that. I tried Lou, then I tried Slats, and then I tried Michael Connell in Boston. I had to go to arbitration with him.
Starting point is 00:35:35 But yeah, both times I held out in November, both times I had shitty years. I do not recommend it for anybody. You know, but if that's what you believe in, that's what you believe in. I just, yeah, I was a little stubborn. Skating with the Springfield picks didn't prepare you for the NHL Brian.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Did you at least get what you wanted an arbitration? So I skated with the picks a couple times and then I went out to the NTDP and after seven years in the NHL, I found out that I could hardly skate backwards anymore. I'm like, oh, they were doing all these skill drills and, you know, you know, turn backwards and quick crossovers both ways. I'm like, holy shit. Give me that fucking contract. I could barely do this. And then I went out to the NTDP. I went out to the NTDP and Jeff Jackson, who's a great coach, he had these really complicated long drills.
Starting point is 00:36:34 And I'm like, Heinzzy was there. Heinzzi was there as a grad assistant. And I'm like, Heinzzi, can we just do like simple two on ones? Like, I cannot follow these drills. It was like a three-part drill. I'm like, this is ridiculous. Like, it's November. They're like, is that Bill Guerin at OpenSkate?
Starting point is 00:36:51 He's got the fucking chair out there. wheeling around. Hey, did you at least get... You know the feeling, Viz. Yeah, oh, yo, buddy. Fuck, it played. Yeah. That was my twig when I played.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Did you at least get what you wanted an arbitration? In arbitration I did, yeah. Fuck, thank God, eh? Yeah. So you went one for three. Yeah. You don't have a mahogany desk like that, not getting what you wanted, Biz.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Billy, I want to go back to those trade requests. And how does... This is stained pine. Oh. Oh. How does that work? It's better than the banana biz has. In the Wendell Clark trash barrel.
Starting point is 00:37:31 I may never get this question now, Billy, but I need to know how do these trade requests go down? Like when, like, does Lou send out a mass email and you say, like, this guy's available or like a Google Doc? How does it all work? We communicate. I mean, usually it's phone calls, but we're all in communication with each other. And if something, you know, if something comes up, we, you know, again, it depends on the level. You try to keep things as tight as possible.
Starting point is 00:38:01 You really don't want them getting out. You know, that's not always the easiest thing in today's day and age. But yeah, it's, it's real basic. I mean, it's not, you know, we're not splitting the atom here. Like, it's, you ask, you ask, I do my due diligence and it's either going to work or it's not. So you say you had a defenseman, you would look at the teams and be like, oh, I know they want a defenseman maybe or they need one or you just call everybody. Yeah, you call.
Starting point is 00:38:28 Mainly you call. And like there's certain kind of checkpoints like in the year. And like right before camp or during camp or whatever, guys will call the check in at the start of the season, maybe around, you know, before the GM meetings. Like guys are consistently checking in, you know, with each other through the league. And I mean, I prefer phone calls. I don't I don't like dealing with with tax.
Starting point is 00:38:57 I like to, you know, hear, hear the voices and deal with it that way or in person if we're around. But that's just me. I think everybody's got their own style, you know. Do you ever throw out any like fake rumors to guys that are working for you to see if the insiders get a hold of it? No, I never had to. We don't have leaks. Yeah, I love that. No leagues.
Starting point is 00:39:25 All right, what about another topic we've brought up to no move clauses? I think Biz might have mentioned like 70% of the league has them or 50, whatever it is. This probably. No, the trainers have them now. You guys as GMs have to be a little like, all right, we got to figure this out here. It's getting out of control, no? It's just like the money. I mean, it's negotiated.
Starting point is 00:39:50 and how hard do you want to, you know, how hard do you want to take a big stand on, you know, a no move? Is it a full no move? Is it no trade? Is it no like partial 15 teams, 10 teams, five teams? You know, what is it? And you negotiate that. You can, you trade it. Like you trade it for, you know, if you want a full no trade, well, then the dollar amount's going way down.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Okay. And you have to, you have to be willing to walk away. Like if, if that's not what you want, you know, it's just like the money. You have to be willing to lose a player over it. Yeah. And then if one guy gives it, it's like, all you need is one. So it's like, yeah, it is probably an issue that may be the next CBA, which I think is four years, but at some point I would think we'd see something about that. I guess also for me, I got to ask, and you've answered it a million times, you're going to have to. The Quinn Hughes situation right now is... You're so predictable.
Starting point is 00:40:56 What do you mean? I'm asking a question as a fucking journalist. And he calls me Witt. He calls you Paul, so he might answer it. I was just stirring the pot. I was stirring the pot. Honestly, Paul. Paul, this is why he's the captain of this podcast.
Starting point is 00:41:10 It's two men talking, Paul. It's two men talking. But moving forward, it's just... Two former Oilers. Keep, yeah. Yeah, we're really thought of us the same when you ask oil fans about our playing days there. But do you just keep kind of staying in contact and let us know? And that's kind of the only way to approach it, right?
Starting point is 00:41:32 Yeah. I mean, like I've said before, like Quinn and I have a great relationship. Pat and I have a great relationship. You just work through it. Yep. I think, you know, and this is the thing. you know, I, fans get anxious, you know, media wants a story, all that stuff. I can't, I can't listen to that.
Starting point is 00:42:01 I can't, get caught up in that. Paul, you're going to let me finish? Yeah, no. No, I just, I was agreeing with you. Oh, okay. So you had to say it out loud? Sorry. I'll be at my mic.
Starting point is 00:42:16 No, it's just, yeah, it's one of those things. You just keep working through it. And the thing is, too, is that we, you know, the three of us, you know, myself, Quinn, Pat, we're really the only ones that, you know, maybe his family or his parents or whatever, but we know what's going on. We know all the discussions. So, you know, with the information, you get a little more comfort. You know.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Yeah. Yeah, here we go. It's back on. Well, I was actually going to ask you about probably a secret weapon that not a lot of people know about that the Minnesota Wild have. And this is a lady by the name of Stephanie Thaler. And she's a Ashiatsu sports masseuse and a lot of your players. She lives in Minnesota and a lot of your players are going there. Have you seen this lady go to work?
Starting point is 00:43:10 No. So she's doing all this like tie massage on your players with her. feet and helping with glutes. That's why he picked you to miss because he's a Thai masseuse connoisseur. He's jealous that he doesn't have this lady. No. Once I saw this, I knew I fucked up. Biz, how do you, where are you getting this from? Well, first of all, you know who that is.
Starting point is 00:43:35 That's Brock Faberweather. He's going to her. And she does incredible work. She's been doing it for the last 28 years. And it's this special like type of tie massage that's, she does with her feet on the posterior chain. Is this an ad read? This is the first I've heard of that.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I, You got to get it on the payroll. When my hot take got posted, this is what she commented underneath. I work with a lot of the star players of the team this year. I've been working with my NHL players for 16 years.
Starting point is 00:44:14 And I've never seen them as dialed in, focused and serious as I already have this season. Haters motivate. You don't know her tone, biz. You're giving her dirty tone. Well, she came to fucking go to war for Billy G in the comments right here. And then I looked at who it was and I'm like, oh, this lady's going to town on these guys' posterior chain. That's the engine that's driving this team.
Starting point is 00:44:39 Whatever gets them ready, honestly. And they are. These guys are dialed, man. They're serious. like, he just showed, he just showed Faber. Is Faber ready to start the year? Uh, yeah, we'll, we'll, uh,
Starting point is 00:44:54 we'll address Faves tomorrow and, and, uh, he's got one more massage before they can make it. There's a video here, but he's on the, he's facing front side up. Whoa. Whoa. Like, look at this. This is, come on. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:45:08 Footprint on his peck. You had no idea about this lady going to town on your players like this. No. No, but like I said, whatever gets them ready. And these boys are always ready, Billy. We appreciate it, dude. It's good. I was going to ask one final one.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Okay, Paul. Ask him if it's okay. How? I don't know. That's my Paul Bisson at Trombone. How hard was it saying by to Middleton? How hard was it saying by to Middleton? The TikTok shop.
Starting point is 00:45:52 I spend more useless money on TikTok shop. Oh, it's terrible. What was your question, Paul? I said, how hard was it saying Biden-Mittleton? Very, very. Midsey's one of the all-time best, all-time, I mean, a plus human being. Like, I just love him. And it was, that was a, that was a shitty phone call to make.
Starting point is 00:46:19 But you know what? That's the job. That's the business. And he was great. he understood. I had to do what I had to do. And, you know, it's just, uh, yeah, it, that's kind of the, the shitty part of the business sometimes.
Starting point is 00:46:38 But, you know, I know he's going to a place that really wanted him and, um, played on enough teams to know that, like, he'll be okay. So it's, uh, that's the business. But yeah, Midge's one of the all-time best guys I've ever been around. Like, honestly, he's going to get 27 goals this year. And Coleman and Mata bona fide winners Awesome humans Like they're just good guys
Starting point is 00:47:03 Or like I mean always been like an old soul Since he was like Since we drafted him in Pittsburgh Like he got it Like he was a pro at 19 Like in the weight room all the time Like we're like
Starting point is 00:47:15 wishing all of our young guys could have been like him And half our vets And then and then Coleman's just like He's just an animal Like, it's just energy and competitiveness. And, yeah, and his last two years, I think, is 20 and 30 goals. So it's not like he's just a buzz side. He's got skill and he can play.
Starting point is 00:47:38 Like, he can, he can score. So we're really happy about the, I think the trade worked out really well for both teams. Connie and I were both really happy. Well, Bill, thank you so much. Thanks, Billy G. I'll get back to just dealing with these mutants. Yeah. Take control back with, please.
Starting point is 00:47:55 You know me. skunk house flood house doesn't matter you got hockey dad half sweet and i gotta ask if we come to minnesota for the world juniors are we invited back for a cobi state dinner or is that out the window now no you guys are always welcome you know that class act i'll i'll decide that though bill it's your house but i decide that okay yeah of course thank you okay all right good luck on the right stephanie for luck bill see you guys see you later billy All right, everyone, listen up here.
Starting point is 00:48:31 You know we're hockey guys, but we can appreciate college football season two, and nobody does it better than Roebuck. Shout out the Georgia Bulldogs. They look incredible. Roeback just dropped the game day collection and it's custom designed for every single school. Polos, quarterships, hoodies,
Starting point is 00:48:47 all built specifically for your team's colors, not some template with a logo slapped on. The same soft, comfortable feel you already know and hear us talk about just reping your favorite school. If you want to look as good reping your team as the boys hoisting the cup look reping theirs, head to rowback.com, R-H-O-B-A-C-K dot com and use code chicklets for 20% off your first purchase through the end of the week. All right, I'm here to talk about Reese's, and I'm here to put you guys on to some game, too. I know a lot of you, the summer is kind of winding down, but for next summer, here's the deal.
Starting point is 00:49:23 I'm putting you on, you heard it from me first. When you're doing your smores, instead of getting the piece of, of chocolate. You get yourself one of these, the little Lucy, the one hitter. You open it, you put that right on the gram, then the marshmallow, and then the gram, and then boom, down the hatch. Best way to eat a Reese's, change your game, change your life, and thank me later. Rees is the best for that reason and many more. It's the best, whether you're having it in the fridge, whether you're having it right out of a vending machine, whether someone's giving to you one, They're really just the best candy there is.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Nothing beats them. You're not going to find many people that aren't eating them. The peanut butter. The smooth rich chocolate. The smooth, creamy peanut butter. There's just nothing better in the game. And, you know, big, big supporter of Reese's. Rees is the official candy partner of Barstool Sports.
Starting point is 00:50:19 Get your Rees wherever you shop. They're everywhere, guys. Just go and get yourself one. It's just great to have a relationship with a guy from the state a guy I grew up I'm watching the 96 World Cup final and I'm dreaming of being like Billy Garron and then to be
Starting point is 00:50:36 locked step with him against you three idiots it just felt good I know you kind of all just withered and just completely gave into him now I've been known to do that myself there's no chirping for me on that I'll I will give in
Starting point is 00:50:51 to anyone I chirp who then comes on the show and calls me out so no problem there boys but I think we all have the Minnesota Wilde finishing the top three in the Central. They're my cup favorite. They're my cup favorite. Playing the parade. They're actually seventh to win the cup on draftings right now. I was surprised
Starting point is 00:51:07 they're ahead of Dallas. Yeah, but that's before the bet makers know about the massage lady. Yeah, it could be changing right now. Yeah, the massage lady, if you don't think I'm traveling to Minnesota, I might just establish residency there. Hey, every one of your flights from Phoenix to Atlanta is a layover
Starting point is 00:51:24 and mini, you just get some work done. He has her coming to the airport. Oh, I could see you doing that. Oh, I'm 1,000% trying to get T&T to send me for like a feature on Stephanie. Just about the Minnesota wild and the engine that makes that team run. Oh, yeah, Fishy lives there. Oh, we should send him to go get one. We should see how it is.
Starting point is 00:51:47 We never hear from him again. He's in the Olympics. He's doing like the Catholic Center. Oh, we should send Fishy to stuff. when Billy G's screen came out and he would just sit in there with all that wood behind him I felt like I was like in the principal's office yeah you were oh yeah and you got and you got expelled he would mock me too yeah I got my yeah I got my yeah I don't know doors on on mine no ears is like this doesn't smell like a skunk now before Billy came on it does
Starting point is 00:52:22 we were discussing the Fantilli contract um in different news with two young stars in the league. We went over, I mean, Bredard, right, R8, R8 broke the news, captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. And then Jumbo Joe Thornton comes in the room and gives all the sharks, the Celebrini C, the youngest captain ever for the San Jose sharks. Complete no-brainer. I mean, I know him a little bit, getting to just hang out with him on the golf course this year,
Starting point is 00:52:53 one of those old souls. God knows what he's going to do this year. I mean, I think 130 points is realistic. It sounds crazy saying that. But if he keeps doing what he's doing, he keeps getting this much better each year, I wouldn't be shocked at all. The team looks loaded.
Starting point is 00:53:09 I don't know if any of you guys have seen. I know Mer's a big preseason guy. Stenberg is a problem. This guy is good. I watched a couple of their preseason games. They're very good. And I didn't, I think everyone figured he'd be in the NHL this year. Ivar Stenberg. Stenberg can't even name.
Starting point is 00:53:26 I'll get that name correct soon. I know that for sure. But this team's loaded and biz him being the captain right now makes total sense to me. Yeah, I mean, I think from like any hockey fan, I mean, especially as a Canadian, like, like, to know what this kid's capable of and, like, where his career is going to go. It's just, I'm just so excited. I wish the league had like five or six more of them. And, you know, I don't think that we've been, uh, I don't think we've been. I don't think we've been this hyped up on a player since Crosby.
Starting point is 00:53:57 McDavid. I mean, you could throw Ovi in there. And obviously, McDavid, sorry. But yeah, he's a special kid. I'm glad they waited that one extra year. Just allow him enjoy the Olympic year and not have anything added on his plate. Not that it would have mattered, but I think that last year just proved that he's ready.
Starting point is 00:54:16 It comes natural to. It's not something that's going to be slapped on his jersey. And all of a sudden he's got to act or change. be different. He just a natural born leader. He's just so easy to like and root for. And plenty of good things to come for that San Jose Shark team. And I'm very, very excited to see what they got coming. It's almost a little bit of like the changing of the guard. Sid kind of, you know, on the back nine, who knows when he's going to retire, OV's same. And it just seems like Celebrini's coming in at that perfect age. Obviously, McDavid's been carrying his weight the last 12 years, whatever.
Starting point is 00:54:51 but Celebrating just seems like he's in that perfect position to kind of take over as almost the sit of the league, a guy that leads by example, plays hard every day. Like, he's that guy that I bet every single hockey parent is telling their kid to watch Macklin Celebrini, doesn't cheat the game, plays hard every shift. So, yeah, he's an unbelievable kid. Got to meet him this summer. It was so impressed with him, just like everything that he brings, just an impressive, impressive human. I think they got to lock up Will Smith, man.
Starting point is 00:55:20 I think he's going to have a monster year. And go back to what you said when you correct to me about like, McDavid, I don't know, did like, I would say that what Macklin did in his second year was, was it last year his third year? No,
Starting point is 00:55:37 it was his second year. McDavid got hurt his second year? Is that when he hit his rookie year he got hurt? But I would argue that that was probably more impressive what he did last year. And maybe the point total. wasn't there, but he was basically the best player at the Olympics for them. Yeah. It is.
Starting point is 00:55:55 It is. So McDavid had 30 and 70 for 100 points in 82 games the second year. He had five goals, four assists in 13 playoff games. They got to the second round that year. A little different there, but a better team. But yeah, it seems as though, and there's definitely hockey historians and fans who would know otherwise it could prove me wrong. But it's almost like every 10 to 12 years you get one of these.
Starting point is 00:56:19 Yeah. And it was, you know, it was Crosby and Ovec and Ovecgner were the same time. And then it was McDavid. And 10 years later and now it's Celebrini. And 10 years from now, it'll probably be another kid where you're getting insane talent every year. Yeah, no shit. But you're getting insane talent every year. But the true generational ones, it seems to be around 10 to 12 years-ish.
Starting point is 00:56:39 So he is that guy. Do you think a lot of it has to do with, I mean, everybody had San Jose being a horrible team. And then he comes in and basically changed the entire organization. around now that they're like if they don't make playoffs this year they're disappointed i i agree he i thought last i thought when we said this you said they have a one year window like no what i said what i said was it's not the end of the world at all if i'm a fan of the sharks if they don't get in this year i think the team would be upset i think it seems thinking when they're seeing what they have in there how misa looks incredible in the preseason preseason preseason hockey's different but whatever and and
Starting point is 00:57:16 Stenberg. Now, would you guys right now, if you could take a team, first team to win the Stanley Cup, are you taking Montreal or San Jose? Because I think San Jose's talent and they're, they don't have, Montreal doesn't have a celebrini. That is on another level over Montreal for me. But the contracts Montreal has with Celebrini being 18 and then God knows they're in a better situation money wise. So it's an interesting argument for what I think the whole league and fan bases around would agree are the two young teams with the brightest futures as of right now. Yeah. And I think San Jose, like, do you think Truba and Nurse would have went to San Jose if Celebrini wasn't there? No.
Starting point is 00:58:02 Yeah. So I think more guys are going to want to go to San Jose. I think he is like opening up that like how it used to be with Thornton and Marlowe and Pavolski, those guys. I think guys are more guys are going to want to play there. I think Montreal done an unbelievable job drafting and developing and having their homegrown talent. But I think they're going to get more UFAs if there even are any in the next few years. That's exactly why it's like Crosby because Crosby did the same thing. Pittsburgh was a joke. Nobody wanted to go near there.
Starting point is 00:58:32 And then he comes and everybody wants to be around him in their career. Yeah. G's saying San Jose, Montre has to go through Florida. But like Florida's got maybe I'm wrong. What's their window? Or forget about Anaheim as a young team. Anaheim was there. They were. Yeah, they, they fumbled it a little bit.
Starting point is 00:58:50 They might have fumbled it. There's cap's going up now, they're saying. Yeah, you're right. And I've seen that report. And we just talked to Billy G. quickly about it. But Elliott dropping that news of it going up in two years, $127 million.
Starting point is 00:59:01 Nobody was happier than Anaheim seeing that. I don't think. Although, God, a lot of these teams with cap issues were fucking thrilled. You know, you know who's set up nice now, Vegas. They got fucking Eichol and Martin. None of these guys are making over 13 and a half. True. They got fucked.
Starting point is 00:59:19 They're laughing, dude. Oh, God. Yeah, that's what I mean, dude. There's some undercover teams here that have some guys locked in for those eight-year terms that are a joke. Seeing the $127.5 million, though, which means it'll go up 14 from next season, 27, 28, 28, 29. It is going to be a lot like when there was no cap, though. Like, Billy said it. How many teams are going to spend to it?
Starting point is 00:59:44 like I think you're you're going back in time a little bit to all of a sudden there's six teams spending 127 and a half and then there's 12 teams that are at the floor like it is kind of weird how this has happened I mean what will the floor be the floor I don't know I don't know gee maybe at 127 you got to imagine in the 90s yeah maybe even a hundred boys I got a new mission now because of this salary cap it's gone up I guess there's all this money I've already got the health insurance for most of the players We got to finish that. That's obviously going to get taken care of. But my next one, if we have all this money in the world, we got to start dropping some into the former players pension funds. No little pension sheet you get each year. Why don't we start dabbling that in some of the older players that got us to this point
Starting point is 01:00:30 instead of raising that cap and raising the sales tickets? So what do we think about that one? I think we need to stuff you in a room and lock the door, you and Gary. Mur and Marty, Bill Daley, Gary Betman, cage match. Mur's with Marty, Gary's with Bill, and two men walk out, and we'll see what happens with the pension funds.
Starting point is 01:00:55 Could Mur end up getting like $1.6 million when he turns 62? He walks out of that room, it could be more. You never know. Another big, actually, funny enough, so people are wondering, when are the Bruins going to name a captain? It's Posternak, Pashok, right? Well, maybe McAvoy. Okay, it's David Posternak.
Starting point is 01:01:17 Now, what's funny about this, I saw a tweet. This is by Smitten Lover, I don't know. It's the Holy Trinity of captaincy leaks. So it's Connor Bredard doing an interview what looks like on local news somewhere. And underneath his name, it says Chicago Blackhawks captain. He hadn't been named captain yet. It's the NHL shop with a celebrini jersey
Starting point is 01:01:41 with a C on it. He hadn't been named captain yet. And it's a tweet from Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League because one of their players has been rehabbing in Boston and took a picture with Boston Bruins captain David Pashterach. So I think they were all announced prior to actually being announced by the team. But, Gee, you can hop on here. He's your captain. I also have a beef with you, G. Oh, David Pashtonach, your new leader.
Starting point is 01:02:07 What do you think? I mean, yeah, I've said this to you guys for months now. I always thought it was going to be pasta. And my biggest worry, I think you guys know for the past few years, has been like, I just don't want to wake up one morning to see an Elliot Freeman tweet says David Poshnock has requested a trade. So I think doing this kind of, you know, keeps him here for at least the rest of his contract. I don't think he's going to request a trade anytime soon.
Starting point is 01:02:28 But yeah, I love this. Oh, yeah. No captains do that. Yeah, true. I love this though. I think it makes sense. People saying like McAvoy is now going to be pissed. They just, I don't think those people have ever been inside a locker.
Starting point is 01:02:42 I think this makes tons of sense. But what's your beef with me? What's the deal? It's not really a beef. Maybe I, I don't think fans listening to this will agree with me at all. But I remember a long time ago, I must have been 12 years old. I was watching a Bruins game with my dad. And I said, that guy stinks.
Starting point is 01:03:02 And he looked at me. And he said, that guy's in the NHL. Yeah, I know where I go. You have no clue what you're talking. about. And I see a tweet this morning with Fabian Lysel going on waivers with the Colorado Avalanche, I believe. And your tweet said, I've been saying
Starting point is 01:03:18 it for years. This guy stinks. Wow. And I get and this is why I think most people listening are like, Witt, shut up, you idiot skunk-filled loser. I think it's so crazy having played in the NHL and seeing people like, this guy sucks.
Starting point is 01:03:36 This guy sucks. He stinks. Like, I don't know. I agree. No, I agree. agree like that I tweeted that and I'm I'm doing the Billy Garron backtrack like you guys just did but I I tweeted that and was like fuck I can't delete this now but I do well I was on drugs. Oh I was on tons. I was so hot. But that's what I'm saying. Yeah. It was one of those things. But it's it's been a bigger conversation amongst Bruins fans for years. They're like call him and Merkle off up. Call him and Merculoff up. It's like me and Dan Powers have been texting about this going back and forth about this kid for years. And I'm always just like, he stinks. He's not good. It wasn't a draft pick.
Starting point is 01:04:11 Is he a much better hockey player than me? Yes. I know. That's why I sound, that's why people are probably saying I sound like an idiot. And people will always, this guy stinks. Well, relatively speaking, I guess you could say, he's not great in the NHL. But when people, these guys sucks, it's like, maybe I'm taking this personally because everyone said I stink. Now, gee, back to the back to the thing you just brought up about maybe Bruins, uh, fans just being upset overall at the drafts and all that. This is from GNP Bruins, former NHL Bruins on waivers this year. John Beecher, Fabian Lysel, Mark McLaughlin, Riley Tuftay, Erho Vakanin.
Starting point is 01:04:51 And this includes three first round picks. The Bruins had only three first round picks from 2017 to 2023. Four years, they had zero picks. And all three players are waived this year. Ouch. So I guess that would be the issue. Seneishon. Seneishan's not even in the NHL.
Starting point is 01:05:08 No wonder Vegas is trading them. But that's why I think they're just all misses. I think that's why Bruins fans are so, like, addicted to trade rumors just because, like, the draft is just not a thing for us. Like, these guys are not coming up with, we just don't draft and develop. I know. It's crazy. So that's why, like, Elliot says these might be trading for Murchanko and the whole fucking internet, the whole Bruins Twitter is going crazy. And I do have a little scoop on that.
Starting point is 01:05:34 I received a text and I was told I can't say anything, but whatever, I'm going to say it now. I received a text this summer and it was like, you want to see a stud, come to the Eastie rink and watch Carill Marchenko. He's been skating with a few of the Bruins in Eastie for the summer. Top secret can't tell anyone. And I'm like, whoa, what the, why is he doing that? I didn't get a response after that. But Marchenko supposedly was skating in Boston this summer.
Starting point is 01:06:00 So that Elliott trade rumor. So then that's your link to them. I was on the group chat. It seemed like it was like sign sealed and delivered that he was kind of a bro. If Elliot says it, Elliot says that they made an offer. And then it's like,
Starting point is 01:06:14 all right, well, there's a little bit more to this story because I was texting Elliott about it as well. And I'm like, hey, I think he was skating in Austin this summer. Like there's a little bit more to the story now.
Starting point is 01:06:22 And you see pasta follows him on Instagram. The door off follows him on Instagram. I mean, these are just like these are reaches though. These are reaches. That's my point. That's my point. Did you hear what Witt just said,
Starting point is 01:06:34 who our draft picks are. All I have is to reach. All I can do is reach for these trade rumors because Erho Vacanine and it's not coming in to save the day. Well, he had Eichel coming at one point. So like the guy's insane. Oh, he went to university. Deranged friends. Alana posted our wedding pictures the other day and the top comment was,
Starting point is 01:06:54 love the pictures, but I still can't get over G-Sing dry siddles getting traded to the Bruins last year. So it's like, I do this often. Well, I remember one summer I was in L.A. for a week and I skated at at their facility and Twitter was ripping that I was going to the king so I get what you're saying. No way
Starting point is 01:07:12 actually? No, absolutely not. This guy's no Twitter. It wasn't even Twitter that. That's when I bought new shoes to work out. Sid was going out there to train so I went out and I bought new shoes and then the shoes hurt my feet so bad after a track where I got workout was
Starting point is 01:07:28 Sid that I couldn't even do the workouts the rest of the week. They were Roger Fedder like tennis shoes. I was like, these are sick. I don't think these were made for sprinting with Sidney Crosby. And I wasn't playing any tennis either. Yeah, tough one right there. But, so Marchenko to Boston G has a scoop. We talked about that. I will say they got them, they got to move that guy. They got, they got Fantilli. I said this last week. The guy has no desire to be there. And bonus is on the war path. If you're Columbus, are you trading him sooner rather
Starting point is 01:08:01 than later? Well, so I read an article on the athletic. where it said that Don Waddell's in no rush, but I'm like, I get that. You don't want to get fleeced, but like you got to get this guy out of the room. And maybe, maybe we watch the first five games. He has five goals and he's doing his thing.
Starting point is 01:08:18 And it's like, well, I'm an idiot. I should, Don Waddell is correct. But if he's like miserable every day and is blatantly being like super Russian, imagine he's being, if he goes full rushing in that locker room, can go full Russian going to the rink.
Starting point is 01:08:32 If you go full Russian, and you don't want to be there, it can bring a whole team down. Get the Kappa and Adidas track suits every day. Never, never washed. Did you guys catch any of Mark Messier's? He did a call with the league, preseason media kind of call where he gets asked questions. I don't think he was a big fan of Babcock getting hired in Edmonton, boys.
Starting point is 01:09:01 Nope. Some of the quotes were, I'm absolutely shocked from the stories that I heard from very good, reputable, excuse me, character people about the way they were treated. It's been no secret. The moose went off. The moose went off the rails. And he actually also discussed the thing we met with Billy about the players having all this control. Now, in fairness, then the internet dug up an old story in which Mark Messier might have been the one that got Mike Keenan hired by the Vancouver Canucks.
Starting point is 01:09:33 Don't know if that's true. That's just the internet doing its thing. Biz, did you agree or were you a little confused how the moose went so off the rails? Oh, you think I'm going to fucking disagree with Mark Messy? I just had Billy Guerin stuff me in a fucking wood locker. A mahogany locker room. Coffin. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 01:09:56 Yeah, like I was, I guess, because like I would have assumed that this point, all the Babcock discourse would be kind of done and over with, like, in paths. So it kind of reignited all of it. And, but like, yeah, like, I get, I get where he's coming from. But I also feel like he was in a different situation where they had an unreal coach that they loved when he was in Edmonton. They were able to win those cups early enough in their, in those guys' primes where they
Starting point is 01:10:26 didn't have to have any type of desperate moves to maybe bring in a guy, for instance, like, a Mike Keen where where he ended up having him Mike Keene and he ended up having him in in New York who had a little bit of an unorthodox aka psychopath fucking with the guys a little bit mentality but what was different about at that point was mess was never getting the brunt of that mess was probably fucking dog walking him and playing the he was the puppet master at that point he had five rings at that point he had five fucking rings so I just think that like it's a little bit of a different situation for this core group in Edmonton where maybe they felt where this is a situation that they could control
Starting point is 01:11:09 that they probably know that Babcock is not going to be coming in and well one he'd already had experience with Hyman Hyman loved them hyman seems like he's also the easiest guy in the world to coach is he brings his nuts all he might never he might not have one coach in his life who he doesn't like no right he's like Rob Skidari like every coach just loved them bingo so essentially it's kind of like we need to bring this guy in despite his past to to crack the whip on the on the other guys on the team because like yeah the regular season's a bit of a free ride because they can ride the work off of these these high in core group of guys where when push comes a shove if those guys aren't dialed in and all these little nuances of the game we're not going
Starting point is 01:11:54 to get past florida we're not going to get past you know the the the top end team so I get why that core group in Emmington did what he did. If Mark Messier wants to scrutinize those guys for not protecting the other players in the team, that's fair. But also maybe fucking Bab somehow, some way has learned from his experience and won't bring what he's brought to other teams and those types of guys in the past. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:12:21 I've always been the second chance guy. There's a lot of people listening who might be like, well, this is this third, fourth, fifth chance, whatever you want to call it. Because you could talk to players from Detroit. You could talk to, I mean, I mentioned Dan Winnick when we had the conversation, like, early, early in, like, getting rebooted for this season on how his experience in Toronto was miserable. So there's plenty of guys who don't like Mike Babcock, the Medano situation.
Starting point is 01:12:51 And it's not always just the quote-unquote peasants getting treated like shit and getting the whip cracked. It is guys like Mike Madano. So, Franz, he wasn't a peasant. I would say this. I would say, who? John's in front. Yeah, he wasn't.
Starting point is 01:13:06 He was a 30 goal guy, net front, the mule taking all that punishment. I would just, I understand, and there's, Babcock has a right to feel the wrath of a guy like Mark Messy's comments
Starting point is 01:13:18 based on what he's done to former players. And I agree with what Mess is saying, but I also would just hope that, that this is behind him, and Babs is a good enough coach where he doesn't need all that extra, extracurricular bullshit and bring that to the table to get this team to win. I almost respect the fact that the Oilers players would go out on a limb and want a guy that
Starting point is 01:13:40 is going to push them and put it. It just show, if I'm a fan of that team, it shows me that how much they want to win, right? They don't care if they're going to get yelled at or, you know, holy shit, boys, I got some breaking news here. Babs got fired. This is big. It's not, not a fix yet. Babs was having an affair with Stephanie. Bayes. Grab your cock here. there is word this afternoon that the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Toronto Maple Eather in deep in discussions
Starting point is 01:14:05 on a trade involving Paril Marchenko. Yeah, Nise. Who would you rather? Marchenko or Nyes? There's no way they trade Nyes for him. I think that's what Columbus wants. I think that's what they want. Unless, listen, unless Toronto.
Starting point is 01:14:17 If Toronto trades Nyes, I don't, I said it before with the, what are they? Why? Yeah, I don't get it either. The guy signed for like $7 million, isn't he? Or $8 million? What is this Nise, trade Nize thing? don't get this.
Starting point is 01:14:30 I don't. Well, you've got to get a good player, you got to give something up. 100%, but like. He's the type of player they've been needing for years that will play tough in the big games, like good guy, team guy. I mean, we don't know if that's what it is. No. But it's,
Starting point is 01:14:45 this way. If it's not him and they grab him, Biz is going to be just no, I'm not. Are you on the Leafs or not, Biz? I got to bring this up. No, you can't be. I'm not. You have them winning the cup one week. You got him in the playoffs the next week.
Starting point is 01:14:59 What the fuck's wrong with that? I'm giving you my honest opinion. I thought you were done with them. Podcast host. Wow, look at that. Call Elliot. Get him on here. More to come.
Starting point is 01:15:10 Elliot leaves you with the more to come. If they're able to finagle him without giving up nyes, one, they're a cup contender, right? No. Can we, what do you know?
Starting point is 01:15:26 No. It kind of all depends on how, I look at defenses. I look at six to seven man units on the back end. Buddy, their D is not that bad. They have Oliver Ekman Larson. Great top four defensemen on any team in the league. No. Tanev's going to be back.
Starting point is 01:15:42 Tanev. Knock on Wood can't stay healthy. Morgan Riley on a cup team isn't a top four anymore. He's looked good in preseason. He's looked good, buddy, and he only makes seven million. He's not like some big anchor money-wise either. Raddish. Radish with an absolute.
Starting point is 01:15:58 He's getting booed by December there. Yep. Who's the one who came over from Chicago there? Fuck, drawn a blank. Well, Bez. McCabe. Chica did his media with reporters today and he said Lease Internal Data reveals that Austin
Starting point is 01:16:14 Matthews is skating faster than he has over the past. He looks incredible. He looks incredible. He looks incredible. Pablo, call him whatever the fuck you want. He's the goal. How about me and Don Waddell? I am on a wavelength with GMs in this league right now that is just unmatched by any other podcast. So it's because me and Billy G are doing woodworking shops together.
Starting point is 01:16:36 Jerking each other off. Who needs Stephanie? Get this rushing out of this locker room right now. And if he brings in a big old strong American like Matthew Nyes, has a nice little return for a guy who had no desire to be there whatsoever in the Russian bear. But it goes back to the conversation. If it is for Nize, I don't understand. And it's essentially a one for one.
Starting point is 01:16:59 You still have to work out Marchenko's contract. I'm assuming he's signing 10, 11 million. Oh, yeah. Listen, these guys are number crunchers over there in Toronto. Maybe the analytics say, ah, nice. You know, he was elevated by the players he was playing with. And that's why he put up the numbers that he did, blah, blah, blah. But I agree with you guys.
Starting point is 01:17:18 He's fucking, he's 220 pounds. He's built like a brick shit house. He's the type of guy he'll fight. I love how he competes. he's great on the forecheck, he's physical. He brings a very well-rounded game, and it goes back to the fact that he only makes seven and change for the next, I think, six seasons, or maybe seven seasons.
Starting point is 01:17:37 So we'll see. We'll see how this transpires in Murals. Just because I'm being non-biased saying, wow, they improved in net, they improved on defense. I would go as far as even saying this. I'm not saying that Gavin McKenna is Selke, or he's going to help out on the penalty kill like Mitch Marner. But from watching in preseason on an entry-level contract,
Starting point is 01:18:03 I feel from the way that he's carrying it through the neutral zone, from his D-Zone to the O zone, I think they've replaced Mitch Marner's playmaking ability, a playmaking ability for $11 million less for the next three years. And this kid is obviously a hockey genius. And I think by the time his entry-level contracts up, he will be shades of what you saw for Mitch Marner. They essentially replaced him with the fucking pick of a number 12 draft lottery ball.
Starting point is 01:18:37 You're welcome, Toronto. You're welcome. Very well said, Bill's. I agree with it all, but I just thought you were done. I thought that meant you were never going to talk about it. He's an analyst. He's talking about the teams. He's talking about the team.
Starting point is 01:18:49 How am I going to talk about the team? He can't like candles. He can't like candles and shit, but he's got to talk. Okay. And the better they do, no more Blazer on T&T? The better they do. Let's go as far as saying this. We ain't going to be talking about Chicago much because they ain't making playoffs,
Starting point is 01:19:06 original six. We know Detroit ain't making playoffs for the what, 12th, 13th year in a row, original six. They're out of tubes. New York, cusp team at best, maybe a wild card. Realistically, they're the Fugazis. Another fucking original six team gone. Boston, they're getting McDavid, though. Oh, well, that's, yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:27 Hey, skated in Eastie. Boston, they can't playoffs. There's four. Fucking Montreals are really the only hope. Who's the other one I'm forgetting right now? Toronto. Toronto, there you go. Well, we got to talk about the original six teams.
Starting point is 01:19:43 Okay. And the better they do, the more he has to talk about him, knowing that, like, he can't even, like, shove it in our face. So it's a true win-win. When, everything's coming up with. I should have my own. float at the parade if they win the Stanley Cup this year. Okay. You will. Mur's on with us. I love when Mur's on with us.
Starting point is 01:20:02 And Biz, great hot take there that he's not Marner, but you're going to see shades of Marner. And by the third year of the entry-level deal ending, we're going to have replaced him. Mur, why don't you give us a hot take or two for you in this NHL season? Because these usually go haywire. I usually like to see some more of the games before I take my, you know, shots on some of these.
Starting point is 01:20:25 teams or players. If you're looking for me for some prop bets, I got a bunch of blogs out for that. But my biggest thing would be, we're going to see Connor Hellebuck in a Buffalo Sabres jersey. And then when the Buffalo Sabres have him in the net, then the East is open to them. It can be them, Carolina, or Florida to go to the Cup.
Starting point is 01:20:47 So that's the biggest thing I'm looking forward to doing, predicting, is that Hellebuck is going to end up with my Buffalo Sabres. Okay. Soon? I would say within the month. I would say within the first month of the season, the pressure is going to get on Winnipeg to do something with them. It can't just have nothing going on.
Starting point is 01:21:04 Buffalo, that's what they need. This is why they made the moves they did. They got rid of Byram. They got rid of talk. They got the money. They got the space. Get Hull Buck to Buffalo. I got a question.
Starting point is 01:21:15 You know how a lot of guys get signing bonuses for their, and then make a million bucks during the season, whatever? If you hold out like he's doing and he got a signing bonus, check on July 1 and his salary is a million bucks. Is he only losing out on that million? No, so I looked at this because I was thinking, Hellebuck now starting today, well, actually, he's losing money. He's losing money. Okay. So like, he, in 24, 25, the first year of his deal, he had a $5 million signing bonus and his salary was $5 million. His salary last year was $10 million. Now it's seven and a half this year. It goes back to 10 next year.
Starting point is 01:21:55 It doesn't matter how much money you've made in terms of the game of chicken that they're playing. Yeah. Dude, come like November, you've got no money coming in. And granted, dude, he's made so much cake. He's going to be back. He's got so many more years on that deal left. But fuck, that hurts. That hurts sitting around and the team's not doing it.
Starting point is 01:22:16 The team's doing so little that you have to release the statement on your own to try to get this going. And then the pay stops. It doesn't come as everyone else is getting paid. That hurts. I think. I think he could do raising cane ads till he's blue in the face in the United States after winning a gold medal for them.
Starting point is 01:22:33 And I don't know if he ain't the guy walking in with the Gucci belts and the Louis Vuitton loafers and the Botegovina bag. So I think that he's probably got about a hundred of it saved the way the S&P's been ripping. I don't think he's spending. The only thing he's buying his bass boats and fishing rods. That will be interesting, Keith.
Starting point is 01:22:53 Like these guys that are getting the 80, million with, I guess the signing bonus. You don't have to give that back. Like that money's already deposited, making the interest. So, yeah, say like Leo Carlson, right, he got it all in signing bonus. He holds out in five years. He's only losing a million bucks. How about, how about the law coat when the guys who had that,
Starting point is 01:23:12 I don't give a fuck? You had that? July 1st, paycheck. I don't care if we don't play. Wow. No, shit. How much of your salary was in bonus? I think that year, probably I think I probably got like a three and a half million dollar signing bonus two and a half during the year or two yeah but you knew the lockout was coming right so like
Starting point is 01:23:36 your agent could prepare remember them doing that um all right well mhr before we throw it we we had that's your only hot take well I was gonna ask him is cup champs cup uh my cup picked it's uh back on the chicklets decathlon and if this happens I will do all seven games again or however many it goes Vegas first floor Florida and you know how I ended up after that trip. And that was only five games. If it goes seven games, could be the end of me.
Starting point is 01:24:03 But at least you don't have to fly back to Sweden at the end of it. That's true. He will. It will. Yeah, at the end of it, for the summer. That's right. That's part of my decathlon.
Starting point is 01:24:12 I have to go back to Sweden on the off days. The train ride, too. You have to go on the Odyssey boat, though. But if you're looking for some money, I got some props. Like I have Utah. I know you guys are big on Utah. I have them out of the playoffs.
Starting point is 01:24:25 I know it's, they're a great team. I think maybe they dipped down after a great year last year. And just because I have to have St. Louis get in there. I know you guys are big on St. Louis. I don't know how, how Utah gets in if I have St. Louis in. Well, you have five central, right? No, I got four because out west I need Edmonton. I need Vegas.
Starting point is 01:24:47 I need San Jose. I need Anaheim. You got Anaheim. You still got Anaheim. Yeah, I think Carlson's going to go crazy. Anaheim. Yeah, and I stand to lose the most if Anaheim goes in the toilet in the next few years somehow. I saw this young D that played for them.
Starting point is 01:25:02 I just one game, he looked really good. What's his name Lundell or something? What was his name? You guys know what I'm talking about? That's that question, too. No clue. Luton, he's a right D. He looked pretty good.
Starting point is 01:25:15 I think if he makes the team, he makes up for Truba being gone. So I still like the ducks. They got a great goalie, great coach. Did we talk about more getting that deal in Chicago last pod? No, we didn't. Glad you brought that up. I had that. That's a steel, apparently.
Starting point is 01:25:32 Yeah, well, five-year deal, 4.25. So this begins, actually, doesn't even begin this year. He's still entry level. It begins next season, and it runs through 2031, 2032 year. He last year played 51 games, five goals, 14 assists. I do think that the discussion of, him moving forward is he could be a very good player. I know that he was a nasty
Starting point is 01:25:57 player with like USA Hockey growing up. Did he play at Minnesota? Mur? Was he a Minnesota guy? Moore? Yeah, he was. Oliver Moore should know this. Let me look here quickly. Yeah, he played Minnesota for two years. He played nine games at the end of the
Starting point is 01:26:15 season two years ago and then last year he had nine games, nine points in the H.L and 51 games, 19 points in the NHL. So, a 19th overall pick in 2023, if he does do what they think, that's actually one that's way different than some of these big dog deals because it's like, wow, Fantilli's making 13.75. Yeah, 60 points look good. But this kid, if he were to get 25 points making four and a half, starting next year,
Starting point is 01:26:43 it's actually okay. So they're like in a great spot with him where they're believing this year where he's still entry level. And then four years of 4.25, you could see a monster bargain. in two, three seasons if he's a 50, 60 point player. So I like that. I got another young guy for you to look out for a wet college guy, Michigan, like Fantilli. Is this T.J. Hughes?
Starting point is 01:27:03 Did he make Colorado? I think he's going to make the team to start. He looked awesome in the preseason. He was scoring, flying around. He was, I think, the lean score in the whole country last year in Michigan. Went up to H.L. In the playoffs, he scored there too. So that's a dark horse for the Calder trophy.
Starting point is 01:27:21 Yeah, G's saying he made the team in Colorado. Wow, good for him. Undrafted player, right? Yeah, Merz. If he's playing with like Nate or something, getting a ton of points, that's a good little bet. Yeah. I do quickly want to say before we throw to Liam McHugh because I wanted it when we were talking Babcock and the Messier comments, I think that when Crosby came into the league,
Starting point is 01:27:43 he was so dominant and he kind of like whined a little bit of officials and like non-Penguins fans like hated Sid. Would you guys agree? Sid was like hated. And then it was just, you couldn't hate him anymore. Like it just, you also wit, you had the lockout to where you had all these older players, some of which couldn't even play in the new NHL. And then still the older ones hanging on where they were used to the clutching and grabbing.
Starting point is 01:28:10 So when you were doing that and they were getting penalized, they're like this fucking, this fucking new kid, this fucking guy, fucking died on all the baby this crying to the refs because I fucking hooked them all the way the ice and skeed them. That's part of why there was a lot of dislike for Sid from certain fan bases. Agreed.
Starting point is 01:28:31 Now, I think McDavid is like, the Oilers are despised by people. And I find it, I find it so weird because if they had won, right? And they'd won, I could kind of get it. Now, maybe that goes against me saying Crosby, like the hate went away when everyone's like, all right, this guy's just this good.
Starting point is 01:28:50 Well, McDavid's proved he's that good. He hasn't won, but people, and now with Babcock coming in, I think they're the most disliked team in the league. I'm watching on Twitter. People hate the Oilers. They want the Oilers. And now with Babcock there, it's like people are frothing at the lip, at the mouth, to see this implode.
Starting point is 01:29:12 And it's bizarre to me how the Oilers, for some reason, are despised by so many fan bases. But you think people hate McDavid? Even two? No, it's not a hate. I think they constantly talk about like he hasn't won anything and it's like I get so, but buddy, I'm an Oilers fan, but I, if I wasn't, I get so much joy watching him in Drysidal play that I find it's so odd how people are so rattled by the Oilers. Somebody's got to be the bad guy. I think that if you if you take things along the way that like for instance, you said, oh, he hasn't won the big one. okay, well, that's something that is used against them. In the midst of the like the Four Nations battle slash Olympics,
Starting point is 01:29:57 there's been like a like the Canada versus U.S. thing. So obviously on the American side, it's like, ah, you know, McDavid can't win the big one. The video from Amazon, him snapping in the locker room, like little little things along the way that have been built up to be used against him. And it's just, yeah, I guess he's the easy target. Not to like a, I don't think to a degree maybe where Sid was at early days.
Starting point is 01:30:25 Shockingly, though, early days, it was like OVie was liked more than Sid. Because he was like physical, running guys around. It was, you know, and then all of a sudden it flipped. And then. When he kept beating Ovi. And then Ovi couldn't win the big one. And, yeah, there was that side of it. So I would say with the Babcock situation, yes, the Oilers are probably the overall.
Starting point is 01:30:49 most hated team in the NFL. More than Vegas? Yes, because people care more about the Oilers. It's more comical. Okay. And it's just, yeah, Vegas is a comedy show. And also they, I don't care about this shit. They also signed one of those kids that was involved in the, whatever the, the, the, the, who's
Starting point is 01:31:08 the last. Formitant. Formatting. He could be solid for them. Not guilty. I don't, I don't know the story or what happened. I'm just saying it's like, I see people bitching about the fact that they sign him. So they've taken the noise away from Vegas as being the most hated.
Starting point is 01:31:23 Yeah, people want this to just end in disaster. It cracks me up. And it's like, fuck, they went to the finals back to back years. And then last year, like, McDavid was injured against the docks. The ducks were awesome. Dostal was a beast. But it is us against the world, boys. It's us against the world.
Starting point is 01:31:40 Ovi didn't win his first cup until I believe his 13th season. Is Connor going into his 12th season now? I think 12. Maybe it's 13. And maybe we're entering the McDavid bad boy era. I hope so. Dude, if he goes full bad boy, that will be unbelievable. Leather asses chappless.
Starting point is 01:32:02 This is 12th year. He's got the assless chaps coming into the rink first game with the gag ball in like the fucking average Joe's. Boys, he's six, he's six seasons away. The aloe ashless chaps. He's seven. him and Larry his dog of the matching gag balls in their mouth walking him in. It's fucking Lenny. Oh, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:32:27 I thought was Larry. He needs seven more years of 100 points to pass Gretzky for, uh, Gretzky has 1,500 points. McDavid has nine. And, and just the hatred he gets is why, I mean, dude, his last six years, 105 points, 123, 1353, 135, 132, 100, 138. I don't think you can watch a hockey game and be like, I hate this guy. I don't get it, but... No, I don't agree with any of it. I'm just saying I agree with your comment with where they become easy targets.
Starting point is 01:32:57 Fuck, they got their own people coming at them now. Mess won five cups there and he's coming at them. Yeah, we didn't need that, but it's moose. I'd wash his shoes. Tommy got the cease and desist from them. They're the headline hogs now. H. H.L. is kind of fucked up right now. Oh, it's a gong show and I love it.
Starting point is 01:33:17 I can't wait. I mean, boys, I didn't even mention. We got game notes back this Wednesday. We're back twice a week. R.A. will be on the Thursday show. They drop Friday. We're excited, boys. Monday.
Starting point is 01:33:30 Hockey. No, sorry. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday. We are back. NHL's back. And NHL and T&T's entering its sixth season with Biz and Liam McHugh. So we sat down with him for about 20 minutes. Let's throw to him now.

They got the miniature ones that have the foil. And as you guys know, it's the official candy partner of Barstool Sports and of course the Spit and Chicklet's podcast. Starting point is 01:35:48 Liam McHugh, what's going on, buddy? Boys, so good to see you. Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I couldn't be more fired up. I, uh, I don't know, I love this job. I love babysitting biz. I get my, my kids all, all summer long prepping me for biz. And, uh, nah, this is, this is fantastic. And listen, you guys know, you bring so much fun and energy.
Starting point is 01:36:11 And, uh, I think in many ways you guys kind of open the door for our show to, you know, be able to do what we do on TV. So, uh, I love what you guys. deal and I'm pumped to be back for another season. I think I've asked you this before, but you say we might help you do what you do on TV. I don't know about that. But I do know, there are many people who've reached out to me in the league that say, how does Biz get away with that?
Starting point is 01:36:34 Like, how is he able to say that? What do you mean? There has to be times that there has to be. Well, when you asked Wayne, if he did shrooms before the show, that was one. Are there times where you're like, oh, oh, boy, he could be hearing from the management on that one? there would a few words just like you know
Starting point is 01:36:53 I know I caught it and I'm wondering how many other people got it but of course like yeah everyone's like you know recording it flowing it down playing it back a billion time and remixing it on social media so everybody catches everything I think Biz gets away with it
Starting point is 01:37:10 because I think I think he's generally good guy Okay. Oh, great guy. Oh, yeah. And I think, uh, like you're not out to get anyone. If anything, you make yourself the butt of the joke 99.9% of the time. I think if you were out there attacking people and going after them, uh, you would not get away with any of this.
Starting point is 01:37:37 And you and I would have had a very short partnership together. But, uh, but I do think, I can't, I mean, how many times? It's almost, it's not weekly, but it's at least monthly where I say like, well, business, it's been a lot of fun work with it. Like, on the air. Like, is, I, you know. That could be it. Yeah, this could be it.
Starting point is 01:37:56 You're six. You never know. Yeah. Well, we'll cut the montage of our time together for the end of the show. Yeah, but it's because, honestly, you mean, well, you're a good guy. And I think, you know, in the end, your hearts are the right place. And people get it. I'll clean it up.
Starting point is 01:38:12 No, don't. Don't get it. It's too late for that. Do you think it's. because, you know, TNT has dealt with Barclay and Shaq and those guys, like, acting a fool. And they understand that that's what sells, right? And when Biz is doing his crazy stuff, like, they understand people want to watch that. And obviously, the proof is in the pudding.
Starting point is 01:38:30 Everyone's watching you guys. You're the best show on TV. Well, listen, thank you. I, I can't say much. I enjoy doing it. And I love it. So, like, it's very cool that people dig it. And I'm grateful I am honestly that I get to work with biz because this is one of those, like,
Starting point is 01:38:46 you don't know until you meet somebody how it's going to work, and it's worked so well, like, I think the partnership that we have in a way that, like, I get to play a straight man, you know, like off of your, like, craziness that, like, it works so well. But I think Barclay and Shaq and everybody opened the door, definitely.
Starting point is 01:39:03 Without question, they did that. But, yeah, I think it's an attitude down at T&T that you are here to entertain. I think it plays better in many ways for basketball and hockey than other sports because it's a long season, guys. It's a lot of games. And let's be honest, not every regular season game is great. It just isn't, you know.
Starting point is 01:39:25 And I don't think we're out of going out of our way to be like, hey, let's make a viral moment or let's try to, you know, go out of our way to, you know, light up the internet. Those moments happen because they happen. And but you have to have executives and people behind the scenes who are willing to let those things happen. they also they have to be willing to let your swing and miss. Yeah. And we miss, right, you're going to.
Starting point is 01:39:51 It's going to fall flat. You're going to offend somebody. What you have to have as people who say, listen, you swung, he swung for the fences. It fell flat. But you still have a pretty good batting average.
Starting point is 01:40:02 So let's keep doing it because it works. And I think there are some people out there that get nervous. Like, if something doesn't work once, though I don't ever do that again. And that's not really been the experience. No, you got to take swing.
Starting point is 01:40:14 Yeah, and we do that. And they're fully willing. I mean, we've only had like two or three things, I feel like that didn't make it. What? What were there? Oh, they didn't even make the show? The eyes of Pan might have got Stevie Y gasped. Liam, I think I know what you're going to mention right now.
Starting point is 01:40:29 Yeah. What is what is? You say it first. No, it's actually, it was the bet that we had, right? Yeah. Yeah. Canada, US. And then like stuff started happening politically. It got a little crazy. And like, Liam had like,
Starting point is 01:40:43 You take it away. Yeah. So we were going to, you know, some of them, it was like the battle of the anthem. We're going to have to sing the other. Four nations. Yes. Oh. And like there is somewhere in existence like a full like music video like 80s style music video,
Starting point is 01:41:01 but I'm dressed as a Canadian bounty and singing the national anthem. And like it's like we've done things over the top before. Every second of this is just like. like, oh, what are they going to do next? Like, I'm on a moose. I'm paddling on a lake. And I'm singing the heads on the entire time. And it was, it was so hilarious. It's so ridiculous. But it was also the last few things that we cut. It was while, you know, politically everything was kind of exploding. And it was tough because you're like, I just know that this is going to be awesome. And there was just no chance. Oh, yeah. No, it's not going to see it. And rightfully,
Starting point is 01:41:38 it was definitely not the time to do it. And, uh, but it was one of those things where at a different time, at a different moment, it would have been excellent. We'll recycle it for the next Olympics. We'll just make the bet. And hopefully that's it. Yeah. I'll look exactly the same.
Starting point is 01:41:56 Yeah, Liam, I wanted to ask you of all the skits and all the stuff you've done in the five years, do you have a top three moments or at least a favorite moment, maybe sitting next to Wayne Gretzky for the first time or any of those skits that really step out to you? I loved retiring Wayne's. sweater vest. Yep. I thought that was ridiculous. It was excellent. We've done a few good things with Wayne. Wayne was sick and tired of the sweater vest
Starting point is 01:42:21 like convoy that you would bring up, right? Biz? He'd like, yeah, at a certain point he's like, I don't think maybe he likes being the center of attention like that sometimes. Like that just speaks to who Wayne is. So obviously you've ended his sweater vest and McDavid's hot tub. You're just crushing oil. Oh, I just beat the beat it to a pulp until they're like enough with the Was there anything better than the look on McDavid's face when Biz would start to ask about the hot. The best.
Starting point is 01:42:50 The one at the awards show. Was that the awards in Nashville? That was when he reached the boiling point. He's like, I'm done with this hot tub talk. I might actually bring it back up. I noticed we didn't get asked back to do another award show after that. It was the end of award shows. They don't even do it.
Starting point is 01:43:08 I was dressed like broke back. Did we ruin that? Yeah, they just send them to them now. It's done. It's done. I bid that one. He wasn't there on his birthday when we, we bought him. We bought the goat a dote. And we brought the dote in.
Starting point is 01:43:23 That was, that was a little way. That was one of those moments were like, you go into an email and you're like, can't believe what you're typing and requesting. You know, you're like, surely like someone's going to like send this to someone. I'm going to be fired. And the email came back from people up top. They're like, yeah, we can get a dope. We'll get a dope.
Starting point is 01:43:43 that they're ready to go. Yeah. I had one of my daughter's birthday a week ago. We'll get the same one. Yeah. But I would say Bizz has done some incredible things. The Department of Broadcaster Safety. Oh, that was with March.
Starting point is 01:43:59 Marchie was, Marchie just being able to be that quick on his feet and being ready to play an NHL game, like that is a certain talent that I don't know how many other guys in the league even have that ability. Yeah. Yeah. And I think I'm shocked at how people have taken to Mr. TNT, which is, you know, I mean, like, it's in the title.
Starting point is 01:44:23 Like, it's a fabricated trophy. Like, we, we just conjured this up. Like, you know, and I love that we gave it to Ovechkin, and he had no idea, like, how to respond to it. Never even heard of TNT. But I don't know what this is. And, uh, banked, maybe. meanwhile when Reeves didn't win it it looked like he might cry
Starting point is 01:44:43 like he was still like he was so amped up that he might win Mr. TNT I don't know but just the fact that and I think that's it and your show is similar like where if you don't embrace it like no matter like whatever you're involved in if you don't embrace it
Starting point is 01:44:58 it's not going to work and like I think the more over the top we've been the more willing people have been to embrace it and it's great when we had Gretzby in to watch him cringe during these things and just like shake his head and be like why do I spend time with the but also knowing he he up with set and he loves it like he's still that guy like wants to be in a locker
Starting point is 01:45:20 and let's just hang out with the boys and uh that's a pretty cool thing for a guy who's you know living a life that game and imagine one thing that he would like to see more of is he is like obsessed with the history of the game like he loves to like he's an encyclopedia himself he loves to give recognition to the people before him. So that's even one thing that I would hope to do on this podcast is do more of the history stuff. I've been doing it with U.S. presidents lately. So that's kind of, I guess, you know, getting there.
Starting point is 01:45:49 But more so with the hockey side of things, like people who paved the way. Do you have a new podcast? Yeah. What do you mean? About U.S. president? No. Well, he had, he explained the Louisiana purchase to us last episode
Starting point is 01:46:04 and somewhere my eighth grade civics teacher, Mrs. Landry, who was a complete rocket, probably really had a heart attack that I was learning about the Louisiana purchase from Paul Bisonette. But that was that was where we're, yeah, Thomas Jefferson. We did a lot of federal Roosevelt last season. Wow. Business is a jack of all trades master of none. Do you know a lot about U.S. presidents, Liam? I probably, no, probably less than I should. so don't just start throwing things happy because I'm going to get up wrong
Starting point is 01:46:36 I feel like though do you have you ever seen this doing drunk history is this? Is biz in any way similar? We're mostly high, not drunk when I'm learning about it with off student. But he's the one who's extremely knowledgeable. I'm sure he knows what that show is. But I just have become more intrigued with like learning like random facts like that.
Starting point is 01:46:59 Like for instance like Thomas Jefferson. was known for bringing ice cream to the United States of America because he discovered it in France and it was so popular over there among the Louisiana purchase, which would you have been able to tell me which states were purchased in the Louisiana purchase? No.
Starting point is 01:47:19 Okay. All right. So, all right. You should do this. You should do an intermission, maybe the second intermission of the King's Ave's game. You guys got Wednesday. It's got to be a Washington game. Well, those guys are so old.
Starting point is 01:47:30 We're in Philly. They were around. There's a lot of, We're in Philly, Biz. You're going to be there. Biz, you should go around to all the things. Send him to the Liberty Bell. Put another crack in it.
Starting point is 01:47:40 How did that get cracked? There you go. That's what we need to know. That's Wednesday night's opening segment. Forget Crosby. We got the Liberty Bell crack. Aside from all the Tom Fulery here, what are you most excited about as far as this
Starting point is 01:47:58 NHL season's concerned? What are your top things you're going on? I know your Islanders are probably not going to make playoffs, although they do have Pete DeBoer. The last three or four teams he started coaching their first year, they actually made playoffs. So that's the only snowball's chance in how you have. Thank you. I feel better about them now that you've dismissed them. I now suddenly feel a lot more confident about the Islanders.
Starting point is 01:48:22 But I'm with you. I actually do think they're going to miss. It would make sense that they progress a little bit. And it would be, it's going to be hard for Schaefer to report. Pete what he did in year one, especially with all the attention he's going to get. I would think, listen, the big picture story, how Florida looks this year, after missing playoffs, being banged up, you know, uniting the Kachuk brothers and the switches they made in goal. You know, you have a lot of people already picking them to either make the cup final or win the cup. And it is an older team and it's a lot to ask.
Starting point is 01:48:56 But man, that team, they are built to win. I think Paul Maurice knows exactly when to drop the hammer on that team and when to back off. I just loved that when they were, you know, when they were truly great was we'd watch them play almost playoff level hockey in October. You know, where guys were sort of feeling it out. They were just running all game long, just playing Panthers hockey. So, and then beyond that, I think it's the pressure, let's Evanton, the pressure on Evanton and bringing Babcock in. that is that's a stope opera the entire seat and I look forward to the one-on-one Babcock Aldous Net interview which hopefully think we would have a Mon request him
Starting point is 01:49:37 oh yeah I will request him why not I think it would be great to listen and I'd be interested to know if he would come on and and chat with us there's no history there cares what do you mean no but I like what would I even ask him how was your time in Columbus Why are the Oilers 3 and 11 through the first 14 games? I think you need to be on the bench. We got to send you to one of the games. Oh, yeah. Go right on the bench with them.
Starting point is 01:50:05 This is great in between the benches. What was that game you did that? We did the Bizz does Buffalo. I think we're in talks of doing like one of those a year where we do like a silly skit and do something. Yeah, doing Edmonton would be all time. Just crank and babes. But it's, I mean, it would have been,
Starting point is 01:50:24 it would have been one of the biggest stories, even if Babs, wasn't it? You know, right? It would just be Edmonton again. Can they finally get over the stump? Colorado's in that state boat, Minnesota, but, but there's not going to be any drama like the drama in Evanton. So, Liam, these guys, I'm not sure about Merles, but Keith and Biz have Minnesota missing the playoffs.
Starting point is 01:50:44 If, if Hughes leaves. That's the thing that everybody missed, including Billy G. when he stuffed me in a locker on TV before the fucking season started. Jesus, crap. I got to do my buttons on now. I definitely don't. I don't have them missing. I think a division is treacherous.
Starting point is 01:51:03 And, you know, this and I were talking earlier. And I know you like the St. Louis Blues. And I just don't know how you can like another team in that division. I think the division's too tired. You got to be begging for, you know, one of those wild card spots if you're a team in that division. But, yeah, I mean, following what happens with you, what happens with Lark of what happens with Lark and, you know, If they want to go in somewhere else, where exactly do they go and how much they bolster that team? And then with St. Louis, I think following Bennington, because it seems like Hofer, from what are you hearing, like they'd like him to be the man at some point.
Starting point is 01:51:37 So if he's the man and Vington's out there and you're St. Louis and you can add pieces and someone down the line can sit there and say, we are a goalie away from winning it and we're not all that worried about the future. We want to win it right now. Bington becomes a fascinating subject as well. So much of it is the West, which is weird because the West seems so top-heavy. It's bad at the bottom. It's strong at the top. And I think the teams are under the most pressure to win the cup. I think Colorado, Dallas, and Edmonton are those three teams right now.
Starting point is 01:52:08 And then the team facing, you know, as I talked about this earlier as well, the team facing most pressure that really it's not pressure to win anything. It's just pressure to improve and to show what some sort of roadmap to the future looks like is Detroit. because it has been forever. And as someone who's been doing this a long time when you just penciled Detroit for the playoffs for 25 straight years, to watch this drought now,
Starting point is 01:52:32 go on and on and now see a Michigan kid, born, raised, drafted captain. Ask out is stunning. Probably as stunning as seeing a legend being, you know, pushed aside and into a different role. Steve Eisenman, but Steve Isler may not be in the GM anymore.
Starting point is 01:52:51 So, yeah, that's a, to me, those are the things that are really compelling at any of this season. Since you brought that up, did they, did Eiserman and Larkin meet in the past like three, four days and like have a conversation or anything? I don't know. You mean Horcalf or would you? I heard that there was like a meeting in the organization and Larkin was a part of it. It could have been a joke and a meme because they had like the two rappers at the mic and it was Iserman and Larkin at the. Did you guys see that? Can I see that?
Starting point is 01:53:23 I've seen that with everyone. This is a great example of what Biz does on national TV. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. With no time to verify. Tri-Siddle's starting a cologne. Yes. Or Bizz will, or he'll jump in with an extraordinarily specific fact. Right?
Starting point is 01:53:42 And then go, I'm not sure if that's right. Would you know? Oh, here it is right here. Here was the meeting they had. Yeah, right there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yep, that was it. I do know I read same thing.
Starting point is 01:53:56 Who knows if it's true, but he expanded his teams because he had the original three teams. Now he obviously had to expand it. I read that too, but no Canadian teams on there. Okay. So like Montreal people kind of think. And all the teams have no cap space that are on his list, right? Yeah, the cap space shouldn't be an issue in a year, especially two years. We'll probably all, we've already chatted about that this episode.
Starting point is 01:54:20 but yeah no I can't wait I've this season does seem a little more I don't remember a season seeming this hectic and crazy before we've had one game because of the storylines of helllbuck larkin and then the panthers being bad and then coming back with brady it's just like there's so many different things going on usually after 15 games now it's it's like craziness before we've started so that's what i think's kind of cool we have joked for a long time liam that and we talked NBA with Markly and Shaq, but we used to carve the NBA and the NHL has some NBA in it now. Players really run the show. And what's ironic about us carving the NBA is the NHL like this is way more entertaining. I know. I think it actually works out. Yeah, I think there was a tinge of jealousy when every time we carved, anyone would carve up the NBA.
Starting point is 01:55:14 There was that feeling of like, yeah, I mean, everyone moves around and everyone's picking the teams and the players completely run the show. I think, though, I think there's a limit, though. I think there is a point that you get to where it would be too much. Well, you guys should have whenever Wayne or Cellios is on like an old school legend, even Hank could be great at this too. Like talk to them on where they think the line needs to stop, right? Like, no, like, I'm being serious because I'm more interested in,
Starting point is 01:55:46 and I think the longer that guys play, like the longer guys play, to go like Wayne and Shelley compared to Hank, it might differ, but I, there has to be old legends of the game like enough's enough with the players controlling everything. And, and then the new age player kind of likes it, but even we think it maybe is kind of reaching its limit. So it's a good discussion for you guys. That would be a, hey, that's a great idea for a fun little game. Yeah. Yeah. Bring like, like, let's say four or five things happen. Like, is this over, is this too much NBA or is this, you know, is this, back over? line. We don't got guys sneaking out of the bubble to go to strip clubs to get like hot
Starting point is 01:56:23 wings and shit. At least they didn't get caught. Well, they didn't get. Exactly. Exactly. That's a good. You're right though. It's a great topic.
Starting point is 01:56:35 Like where would the line? Where would the line be now? And also just asking them like the line back that. I mean, it's uncrossable in many ways. And I'd be very curious to hear from both Brett's and Hank. about that man they'd be they'd be honest I do feel like we're not there yet we're not really approaching it yet but I would say like if you're a Canadian
Starting point is 01:56:58 you know if you're a Canadian fan right now I'm sure the summer felt that way where it felt like wow like this is just guys don't want to be here asking out and making it happen one way or the other and it's it's got to be depressing and demoralizing in many ways especially and I look at it from Winnipeg dominant team a couple years ago Like an excellent team.
Starting point is 01:57:21 I know it like it flamed out in the playoffs, but like, Phil, it was a team that you could see. And you're like, wow, this team could go to a cup file, could win a championship. They were in that small handful of teams. Out of all the Canadian teams, who could you see ending the drought in the next, you know, whether it's this year or the next five to ten years of not winning a cup? I think it's Montreal. Without question. I just, I love what Marty St. Louis is doing there.
Starting point is 01:57:46 I think the belief is real. It was so cool being there for the playoffs and seeing that atmosphere and how pumped up and how I don't know there was this longing for like that those big energy big game moments and it was a crowd that was appreciative of it
Starting point is 01:58:02 of taking the step it wasn't a crowd that was just listen there's just point that you lose but I think it was this feeling of this is the beginning and we're going to continue to take those steps there's enough young talent on that team and I do think I think it's a Canadian
Starting point is 01:58:16 city that is is not on, like, a ton of no trade lists. It's a beautiful place. It's original six. It's hockey crazed. So I think it is a destination in many ways for so many hockey players still. To me, that's definitely the pick. And after seeing how good they were last year and, I don't know, just the build of their team, the youth of their team.
Starting point is 01:58:42 And now everybody bought into every word that Marty Samuel Lee was saying. I don't know. It just feels like they're on the verge. Great. I'm with you on that, but don't forget. And I'm a, I'm a Canadian guy. I've talked about Hudson since BU.
Starting point is 01:58:58 Demandov's one of my favorite players to watch. Don't forget. That was one of the worst Eastern Conference finals in the history of hockey. Like they literally didn't, they couldn't get the puck out of the zone. So, yeah. It's just like everyone's like Montreal, 112 points this year.
Starting point is 01:59:16 Great team. they got their doors blown off by the hurricanes. They did. And while getting goaltending that, no one thought they were going to get any. You're right. I mean, Caroline did that to a lot of the team.
Starting point is 01:59:30 Yeah, all of them. He'd had Philly beating them. They didn't score a goal. And, and, obviously, the easy choice would be Evanton,
Starting point is 01:59:41 because Evanton's right there to win it all. But I think in terms of, like, looking in a team and feeling that they could be sustainable for years to come. Edmonton's so volatile right now. Which we love. Which we love.
Starting point is 01:59:56 Edmonton's storylines. Yeah, just have them on edge and then ask for McDavid or Drys Idol pregame and hit him up with a biz question. And yeah. Liam, we thank you so much for joining us, buddy. I can't wait to kick things off Wednesday. I believe right now you're on your way to St. Louis to go watch one or both of your kids are playing the cross there?
Starting point is 02:00:16 No, no, I'm working. I'm going to St. Louis. I have a U.S. soccer game that I am hosting. Nice. So just does it all the sky. Yeah, man. So I'll be in there for some soccer on Tuesday and then parachuting into the pregame show in Philadelphia. We will see you.
Starting point is 02:00:35 We'll see you in bed Wednesday night when we're watching Philly Pit. And we appreciate you coming on, buddy. You guys are the best. Thanks so much for having. You're the best. See, Liam. Thank you. All right.

Starting point is 02:02:19 And when I'm eating them on their own, they're in the fridge. Sometimes the freezer before I go back and forth. I like a really cold or cold. Doesn't matter, though. Even room temp, a Reese's peanut butter cup is the goat. I know people agree with me. There's something for everyone when it comes to Reese's as well. Reese's peanut butter cups for, when did these come into existence, gee?
Starting point is 02:02:40 I don't even know. But that might be one of the greatest years that we've ever had in human civilization is when the Reese's peanut butter cup came in. Wait, the year was 1928. They're the Carolina Hurricanes. They're the champs, the goats, the winners. It's Reese's, the official candy partner of Barstool Sports. Go get a Reese's wherever you shop right now.
Starting point is 02:03:04 Thank you very much to Liam McHugh. Can't wait to watch you guys this year. Wednesday night, Pittsburgh, Philly, followed by L.A. Colorado. Can't wait. The league made some news this. week. I got to admit, I didn't even know this was a new rule. Trevor Zegrois is given a penalty because his jersey was tucked in. An amazing response by him the next day, Instagram pictures of
Starting point is 02:03:29 him from 8 years old to 14 years old to current day with his jersey tucked in. But apparently you get a warning and then if it's tucked in, you get a penalty. And if it's tucked in again, you get a misconduct. Don't really understand what. where the league's coming from here, considering the greatest player of all time, wore his jersey tucked into his side. What do you think? Ridiculous.
Starting point is 02:03:55 What are you thinking? I think it's ridiculous. Really? It's one of the, yeah, like, what's the reasoning of it? Like, I don't know. There's a rumor. There's a sponsorship. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:04:08 That's how I played somewhere. I don't know if it was a new. They're going to get a tramp stamp, the tramp stamp. Oh, in the bottom. That's where they're going next. Oh, so maybe that'll be now. I mean, whatever. If the salary cap's going to be $127 million,
Starting point is 02:04:20 let's not tuck the shirts in, boys. But, I mean, if it's like OV, you should be grandfathered in. Like the advisor rule, like OV, if he should be able to talk. It reminded me of the story when they had a new rule where you weren't allowed to sit on the bench. You know how some guys used to sit on the boards
Starting point is 02:04:37 during the TV timeout when they come and clean the ice? You can't do that? You couldn't do that. They started the new rule. And Yager used to do that when I was playing with them. The linesmen came over to me. He was like, hey, can you go tell Yager to sit down? Because he was too afraid to go talk to him.
Starting point is 02:04:51 And I'm like, yeah, yeah, sure. Went over to him. And I was like, hey, Yoggs, where are you going for dinner? Wasn't going to tell him to go sit down. You know, like, so I think you should be grandfathered in. If it's part of your style, like, that's what you do, maybe just start setting the rule now, like, the guys wearing the turtlenecks. I know Merles, you got had something to say about McKenna wearing his turtleneck.
Starting point is 02:05:11 It's awful. You can't have the skin showing underneath. You got to get a flap that keeps it all underneath. Or just what's wrong with the shirts the kids wear? Yeah, exactly. You can't have this little thing like this. It looks just, it looks like where memes played is like last year of hockey, like Bantam, single A in the middle of Ontario.
Starting point is 02:05:33 I don't know. I don't know if you, uh, you described it with, but Zegris was penalized for it in a preseason game. Yeah. Did you, did you mention that part of it? Yep. Yeah. Did you, did you, uh, mentioned the fact.
Starting point is 02:05:46 that the next preseason game that all the players in warm up in solidarity with their teammate, which is so good for team morale early. Philadelphia Flyers who are going to have a target on their back after making playoffs last year. I agree with Yans in the grandfather's situation, but it should be like a list of guys
Starting point is 02:06:07 based on their ability and their swagger on the ice that should be able to do it. And each year the league releases the list of players allowed. That is a great idea. Where you could get drop off the list. Like, for instance, Connor McDavid,
Starting point is 02:06:23 fucking tuck the whole thing in. He could wear a tank top if he wanted to. Exactly. Kuturov, 1,000%. McKinnon, he doesn't do it, but he could do it. Logan Stanley, Logan Stanley, new sign of the Islanders, no.
Starting point is 02:06:40 Nope. He wouldn't even want to, I'm sure. Yeah, exactly. So you go to guys who can and can't do it, piss. Who do you, who else you got? Like, fifth on the scoring list last year, 103 points, Shifley.
Starting point is 02:06:51 Like, I don't see Shifley as, I don't see Shifley as a Jersey tuck guy. I don't think he does it, nor would he want to. So he would not be on the list. Suzuki, absolutely not. There's no swagger there. He's just going about his business like Patrice Berseran. He's not tucking his shirt and he's all business.
Starting point is 02:07:08 Posternak, 1,000%. Martin Nachis, I think that McKinnon gets the pass even though he's not doing it but I don't think Nate just is on that list. Yeah, but if you get won a team, one a team, he gets it. I know.
Starting point is 02:07:22 Kail McCar, it gets the talk before Nate just does. Leon Dreisdell. Edmonton would be the only team that gets a pass for having at least two guys on the squad. I mean, Boos has swag and a cannon and Bush could be a tuck guy. Bush ain't fucking doing it, dude. If he gets to rig surgery
Starting point is 02:07:39 where both his eyes are straight, then we'll talk. Jason Robertson, absolutely not. Kyle Connor, no. Jack Eichol, yes. I would give him the pass for sure. I'd give it to Kyle Connor. He flies around. That's a guy I could see with the tuck in.
Starting point is 02:07:57 Personally, personally, I just not handing this out to everybody. Personally, I don't think tucked in jerseys look good. Really? Oh, really? You don't think Caril Caprisov would look good when we were the half-tuck? He looks great. And then when he has a tucked in? It has to be on the side to look good.
Starting point is 02:08:13 Like Zegris on the back, I don't like that look. Side, different conversation. You talked about the history of hockey and how Wayne does like it. Do you know how the Wayne Gretzky talk started, though? Yeah. Probably because he was playing seven years up and he had a jersey that was an adult jersey and he was four. That's what kids don't understand now.
Starting point is 02:08:32 Like youth hockey, the jerseys used to just be there. Those are the bantam set. And it just, you handed them back in at the end of the season. I need to see a new age. like I need to see an 8-year-old right now playing with 11-year-olds. There has to be somebody out there. The old playing up is something. Murr, you did it, right?
Starting point is 02:08:50 What about Wyatt or Ryder? They're not there. They're not at that. I'm trying to get them at their age group. I'm talking like Tim Conley playing with 78s when he was in 81. Like, where are those kids now? They got to be out there somewhere. I feel like they don't let you do it as much.
Starting point is 02:09:06 What? You're going to get a million DMs now. Like, oh, I check out this kid. I'm trying to get my daughter to play down a level in soccer. I think she's up too high. Are you allowed to do that? Re-classer in third grade. So every team should get,
Starting point is 02:09:24 there should be a list that we vote on every year. Who's on you, Florida? I like that. Barkie. Doesn't Matthew tuck it in? I think Matthew does. He does everything. He chooses a mouth guard.
Starting point is 02:09:36 Like he's a slop tart out there. He's probably got the unzipped pants. Yeah, yeah. Oh, on the legs on the inside of the legs. I hated the unzip. That was unzip pants to me. Unzipped pants. It's not as bad.
Starting point is 02:09:49 It's on the same planet as kids who pulled the socks down over the heel of their skate, boys. Biz used to do that. No, he didn't. No, you didn't. In the NHL. Not just the heel. He did over the toe. I would go over the toe.
Starting point is 02:10:05 Gencos. Jankos. I swear to go. I don't need this. I swear on my. I swear on my. mother's life. You did both?
Starting point is 02:10:13 So you look like a figure skater? No, Jen goes. I would pull it over the front and then I would do like a tape job and then I would fold it. Like it was how old do we talking? Sorry, Neil. I don't know. I should have been put back in a womb. I should have
Starting point is 02:10:29 been put back in the womb for how bad this that's an example. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's great when your dad didn't play hockey because he can't give you any pointers. That's one where you needed. You needed your dad. Played hockey. Cam recommended it.
Starting point is 02:10:45 I don't have a relationship with my father anymore because of it. I haven't spoke to Cam in six years. I've been getting through it in therapy, but. Well, the part of the rule that's, so you, if it gets tucked in throughout the course of play, it's not a penalty, but then there's like the gray area. Like, imagine this is an added review with off sides and no goals
Starting point is 02:11:07 that they go back to see if the church. Jersey was tucked in through game action, that would be. That's not good for chasing goals. We don't need more reasons. Goals coming off the board. So got another text. I won't say who about why
Starting point is 02:11:23 it might be the case. Apparently Jersey sales are down. Really? And I don't know. This is the text. Well, there's $700. I saw a new McKenna jersey for 700 Canadian. Because it's tucked in, when they're tucked in,
Starting point is 02:11:38 you can't see the number. and it's like hard to distinguish like who it is and therefore that correlates to less jersey sales. Don't know if I believe that. I believe that getting ahead of selling tramp stamp ads way more than I do them not being able to make out what player it is. So I think that the tramp stamp ads given where the salary got it's kind of funny. Like get like the monster energy drinks tramp stamp, you know. Everything is incredible. I would personally have Red Bull over monster.
Starting point is 02:12:09 Did you ever see the one from my team in Switzerland, the tramp stamp? Erotic market? Is that what I think it is? Holy shit. Is that a legit? That was our team in Switzerland. That was one of our sponsors. No, it was a store.
Starting point is 02:12:25 Like a sex shop? Like an adult shot? Wow. They call it the market. Jesus. Did you guys get like money off at the store? That was probably where I couldn't talk my shirt in. It was probably there.
Starting point is 02:12:35 And the goalie would always pull it down for me. You got to go over the Tobin to find one of those nearby here. Jesus, Keith. Easty. Erotic. That's where Marchenko was going after the skating. Eastie. Why wouldn't Marchenko be skating with all the NHL guys at Warrior?
Starting point is 02:12:52 Why would he be skating in Eastie? I don't understand this. My response was I didn't even know there was a ranking. Same. Yeah. Me neither. Boy, hockey's back. I love it.
Starting point is 02:13:04 That's great catching up with you guys. M. Love you join. And the last story I have here is a senator's owner, Michael Ann Lauer believes Brady Kachuk's family played a role in wanting him out, ending up with the Florida Panthers. He said blood is thicker than water. And let's just say that his father and brother got in his kitchen. You think?
Starting point is 02:13:23 Thanks, tips. Literally in their kitchen. Wait, no way. Yeah, I think it was his brother and dad, boys. Can you fucking believe that? I never even thought about that. Jesus. I know.
Starting point is 02:13:35 I mean, that's news to me. I know. I couldn't believe it. shit. I don't even know how we didn't start the show with that. That's the quote he had. How did you get so rich? The booing of the booing of Brady back in Ottawa is going to be.
Starting point is 02:14:02 No. What do you mean? No. You don't think they'll give him like a tribute? I think that he definitely gets a tribute. There'll be some people cheering, dude. Are you kidding? You play six games in the league.
Starting point is 02:14:13 dad's fault. It's not his. But if they play the senators first in Florida, he'll probably have murdered someone on the senators also going back with that. October 21, Florida at Ottawa, I believe. Oh, I hope Marchy's back for that
Starting point is 02:14:29 with the Stoodsel comments. I need him back for that. That's early. Get it out of the way. That's nice. I can't wait to see Florida, Carolina tonight, boys. That's going to be five o'clock too, right? I got to shout out the NHL. Like, they did it. Five o'clock. 7 o'clock, 8 o'clock, 10 o'clock, 1030.
Starting point is 02:14:47 All split up for us. Great games. Great games. Unreal job by them. I can't believe we're back, boys. It doesn't seem that long ago. We were just talking about Carolina finally getting her done. And now we get to see them go against their nemesis who are healthy again just to start this season off after a banner raising.
Starting point is 02:15:04 By the way, did you guys like their rings? So the rings are cool. Whatever. The rings have gotten so out of hand and out of pocket now. Yeah. G pull up Justin Williams. It turns into like a necklace. Just it turns into everything.
Starting point is 02:15:18 It turns into a car. Justin Williams tweeted out a picture. Actually, he made it so you couldn't retweet it because I was going to write on there. He's holding on his fingers is the new one that he just got for being a part of the team, right? And the old one he got for 06 when he won the Kahn Smythe, or that was with L.A. But when he won it in Carolina, it's half the size, if not less. The older ones better. I like the old rings.
Starting point is 02:15:42 Maybe I'm boomer here, but the older one you can wear, the new one is, is like, it's a car. It's a fucking dick measuring contest. How much better is that old one? That old one's money. I mean, I would, neither, either way, they're not probably wearing them around, right? If I ever won one, I'd wear it every day, but like, I said that if I wore, if I won one, I would wear it like any special occasion. So, like, going to the movie theater. Picking up lunch.
Starting point is 02:16:14 But I don't have one. Needless to say. I can't believe. And I never will. All right, guys, I love you all. Fans, thank you for staying with us all summer. Murr, Wednesday. Tuesday night, Boston.
Starting point is 02:16:27 We'll be there. Five o'clock. Greatest bar. Watch that first game and then go over to the TD Garden. Your punishment, your punishment, if they don't go over, you have to sleep at with skunk hose. I gotta go figure this out, boys.
Starting point is 02:16:41 Love you all. Good luck. We'll see you back here Friday. Check out Game Notes, noon Eastern on Wednesday. Peace.
