Starting point is 00:00:02 We like to think that our dreams are just messages to us from us. Maybe. Then again, maybe not. You're listening to Spooked. Stay. In my dream, it's a red car. Candy apple red. Convertible with the fence.
Starting point is 00:00:43 And I'm driving it four years old, but I'm driving it, Jack. Made just for me. Zoom past my little brother. Pass Susie on the corner. Watch out, Susie! Watch out. Beauty, pie. Everybody's looking.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Because I'm sharp, Jack. Shop! Car gleaming so fast. I'm dreaming so hard. So vividly that I remember it all these years later. Don't want to get out to bed. I love this dream car that much, so much. But I hear something.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Pulls me away. I don't want to be away. I'm on the second floor. the house and it's early. Sounds like somebody rustling something, somebody trying to sneak. Somebody trying to be real careful. Somebody outside.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Now I'm scared, I'm scared. But I crawl over to underneath the window. And I start to raise my head to look slowly. Slowly, oh no, don't let them see it slowly. When I get the glimpse, I almost pass out. is my pops. And his arms wrapped in thick plastic
Starting point is 00:02:10 is a candy apple red. Kids sports car convertible with the fans, the kind you pedal. Maybe I do pass out. I know this car. I know what it feels like. I know what it looks like.
Starting point is 00:02:27 I know how the left side door opens but the right side does not. I know the license plate says go fast. I know there's a fake spare tire in the truck. I know the horn makes a beep beep sound. I already know everything. Later that morning, Popp asked me if I can guess what he got for me.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I say, I don't know what. I'm a liar. But I want to make him as happy as he's making me. Ripping the amazing thing from my dream and handing it over to me wrapped in plastic. As a little boy, I wonder if this happens often. Later, I discover it does not. My name is Glen Washington. Turns out not all dreams should come true.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Spook starts. Our very first storyteller Jody Torpey. Jody discovers that it's hard to run from someone you've already seen coming for you. Don't understand? Well, you will. There were three of us all together. Two work friends and myself. One of my friends had a gift certificate for a hotel in Denver,
Starting point is 00:04:33 and we decided that we would take a trip and just have a girls' weekend. Somebody had packed a thermos of Bloody Mary's. It was just a party on wheels. We were coming from Pueblo, which is about two hours away from Denver, and it's over a mountain pass. I had the best car. It was just a small Volkswagen Beetle. It was the middle of December.
Starting point is 00:05:02 The mountain pass was snow-packed. It was a very slow drive. There was full-on blizzard. Fortunately, there weren't many cars on the road, but it did take a while to get to Denver. When we arrived in Denver, we got to the hotel. We got settled and we stayed up late talking. And then everyone was really,
Starting point is 00:05:25 ready for bed. It's really dark in the room, and my two friends are sharing one of the beds, and I'm in the other bed by myself. I was in a very, very deep sleep. The dream that I had was that I was alone in my car, and I was driving down the streets in lower downtown Denver. It was a very deserted area like a skid row it's the middle of the night it was dark
Starting point is 00:06:02 there's nobody else around no other cars on the road there's no sound and I was stopped at a stoplight and that's when I looked up and across the street
Starting point is 00:06:18 at the diagonal I see there's a guy standing there He's blonde, and he's youngish, probably 29-30-ish. He's kind of a cute guy, and he's wearing a green army jacket, and he has the collar up, and his hands are in his pockets, and he's staring at me from across the street. Lock eyes with him, and he starts to take a step off the curb
Starting point is 00:06:53 and walked toward me in the car. I'm frozen watching him watch me as he's walking across the street. I'm curious, like, is he going to come over and ask me for directions or ask if I'm lost or if I need help? As he came across the street, I just stayed there even though the light had changed. So as he gets close enough to the car where he's about a foot. away from the door, I start to roll down the window, and he pulls a gun out of his pocket. And that's when I wake up from the dream, with my heart kind of pounding.
Starting point is 00:07:37 I remember feeling scared, kind of like, oh, grateful. That was just a dream. Nothing bad happened. I just kept it to myself. The next morning, we got up. Got dressed, went out, had breakfast, and started our big adventure in downtown Denver to go shopping. And it was all decorated with greenery and big red ribbons and just a nice Christmas atmosphere. Everybody was in a good mood. The sun was out. It was cold, but it was beautiful. Blue sky, crisp Colorado Day.
Starting point is 00:08:33 but I just couldn't shake the feeling. I still can see the images very clearly in my mind, him standing there at the side of my car and seeing the gun in his hand. I see that over and over again almost all day. I still don't understand what it means. We decided at the end of the day that we'd go out to dinner and after dinner we tried to find a bar and have a few drinks.
Starting point is 00:09:11 We started driving around on the downtown streets. We really didn't know where we were going because none of us were familiar with the area at all. The roads were snow-packed and there was nobody else on the street. There were no other cars. There were no other people. We were on a dark street. I didn't know where we were. And that's when it started to feel familiar.
Starting point is 00:09:40 We were stopped at a light. It was a very odd feeling because I had the feeling if I looked across the street, I would see that man. Before I saw him, I had the feeling that I was going to see him. And I turned my head and there he was. everything was exactly as my dream. The green army jacket, the blonde hair, the collar up, hands in his pocket. We locked eyes just like in my dream.
Starting point is 00:10:16 He started walking across the street. And even though my friend that was sitting in the passenger seat said, Jody, the lights turned green, I couldn't take my eyes off of the man. as he was walking toward us. I said, I know that the lights turned green, but there's the guy from my dream. And she said, what dream? I said, the guy, the guy for my dream.
Starting point is 00:10:47 I had this dream. And he's coming over to the car, and I want to see what happens next. as he got close to the car my friend said well what happens in your dream I said he pulls a gun out of his pocket
Starting point is 00:11:08 both of my friends screamed and that was the moment where the reality and the dream world collided so I stepped on the gas the light is red the car fish tail
Starting point is 00:11:36 out of there sliding along on the snow, and I drive out of there as fast as I can. It was nonstop, what was that? Let's find a bar. We really need a drink now. And my friends asking me, walk us through that. What just happened back there? And I don't have any answers.
Starting point is 00:12:04 There is a part of me that wishes I would have found out what happened. happened so that maybe it would be complete and I would know and I wouldn't have to think about it or wonder about it. And I still wonder what was that? You Jody for sharing your story with us, let it serve as a warning to everyone. If you see your dream killer in real life, run. Don't walk. Run away. Ain't no time to be cute.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Figuring it out later. Now, Solvana. Solvana, no. She knows a little something about the bad dreams. I think everything started when I was 13 years old. I used to have these weird dreams. One night I had a dream where I was crying in my room. And I heard the door of my room opening.
Starting point is 00:13:35 And it was my best friend crying too. For some reason I stood up and just hugged her really hard. She kept murdering Canela. Canela. That was her dog's name. And then I woke up. I don't remember how much time it passed, but one day my dog was working at the street. So I went to check on him. I looked more closely to the street, and after a few seconds, I noticed my dog.
Starting point is 00:14:10 My best friend stuck there. She was run over by some car. So I went to my room and started crying because I don't like when people see me crying. Then a few minutes later I heard my door opening and I saw her. My best friend caught me while crying. And that's when it clicked. My dreams were in fact visions. I never knew which ones were dreams and which ones were going.
Starting point is 00:14:40 going to come true. When I was 15, I had a really weird dream. I was taking a shower and I put on my pyjamas. They were mint-colored and with purple spots. Everything seemed normal. So I got out of the bathroom and in the window I could see a man's head. I thought, who is this man? What is he doing there?
Starting point is 00:15:14 The first thing that made me freak out wasn't just the fact that there was a man in my rooftop, but the fact that he was wearing a mask, the Jason mask. I don't think he saw me, but I was scared that the backdoor was open. So I ran downstairs, and when I finally reached the back door, I found it locked. I could see outside. He had now climbed down,
Starting point is 00:15:41 I was standing on the wall that separated my house from my neighbor. He was looking right at me. Then this man pointed at the floor, and as soon as I looked, I realized that he was not pointed to the floor, but to my dog's camp. I was panicking because I knew this man he would harm him or even kill him. I really loved my dog. So I didn't even think it through and grabbed the keys and opened the door. So I called him.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Scamp, enter, for favor, enter. But he didn't move a paw, nothing. I saw how this man was climbing down to my backyard. The nearer he was, the more desperate I was to the point that I wanted to cry. So I stepped the foot up to try to pull Scamp by the collar. And then this man jumped inside the backyard. As soon as I saw him, saw how he grabbed the machete, our gardener uses, and run towards me.
Starting point is 00:16:55 I knew he was aiming for me and not my dog. When I tried to close the door, he grabbed it and opened it. And that's when I felt something sharp in my shoulder. He had cut me with the machete. I wake up and I felt really weird my shoulder. I felt it sore. I was scared because I didn't know if it was going to happen in real life or if it was just a really bad nightmare.
Starting point is 00:17:31 But still I didn't want to take risks. I decided that I didn't want to wear those pajamas with purple spots because if I was wearing those pajamas, I felt like it could happen that night. During the day, I grabbed my shitty, walked to the living room and hid the machete under the stairs. And from that day on, I didn't let my dog sleep outside. I would let him sleep in the hallway.
Starting point is 00:18:03 If my dog wasn't in the backyard, then he wouldn't be able to manipulate me to open the door. But after I had the vision of my death, I stopped having more dreams, not even a short dream. and it was way more scary because if I didn't have dreams then it means that I won't have a future two or three months after that felt like someone was watching us from the distance
Starting point is 00:18:36 my brother noticed this too I remember that one day we were returning home and one of my neighbors told me that we should be careful when we had to go out of the house someone had been walking through the streets repeatedly and my neighbor didn't recognize this person. It was just scary and it was nervous because if this is the person who I think it is demand from my dream, then he knows where do we live. He knows my house. He knows our routines. He knows when my parents are out of the house.
Starting point is 00:19:16 He knows when we are alone. At one night, it was about to be 9 p.m. So before going upstairs, my dad asked me to take out the trash. So I opened the front door and threw the trash in the trash bin. And when it was about to return inside, I saw this black figure behind our car. I noticed that his face was looking through the window. Like, he could have a perfect look at the living room. the kitchen and the hallway. If he was looking through the window, then it may be him.
Starting point is 00:20:04 So I just, I ran back inside and I told my father. And when he went outside, he turned on the light of the front yard and couldn't see anything. He was gone. After that event, I was really stressed. I couldn't stay alone without freaking out. I always looked out the window. I wanted to know if there was someone looking at my house.
Starting point is 00:20:37 I finally had my 16th birthday, but I wasn't really happy because my dog woke up really tired. He didn't want to move. He didn't even want to eat. My brother and I were trying to cheer up my dog, but nothing happened. And at the end of the day, my parents... took him to the bed. The next day, my parents woke us up early and told us that Scamp had died.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Everyone cried. I didn't want to believe it. I had had him since I was five. I just couldn't imagine alive without him, in fact. But after one month, I was closing the doors and I saw my dog's color. And then I thought, Wait, the vision isn't going to happen. I stopped blocking up the door
Starting point is 00:21:40 and I returned the machete to its original place. I felt like I could live more happily. Even though my dog wasn't with me anymore, that meant that I wasn't going to die. A few days after I realized this, my mother was in the living room watching the TV when all of a sudden I noticed the news footage. The report was saying that a woman was kidnapped in her house.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Now she was dead, and this man was a culprit. The footage was back and wide from a security camera in my neighborhood. It looked like the man was trying to break the lock. after some minutes of entering he came out with a girl and he dragged her to his car and you could see that he was wearing the Jason's mask
Starting point is 00:22:45 just by seeing the mask I knew it was him in the footage they didn't give him a name they just called him the masked man his victims were young girls I panicked I felt like
Starting point is 00:23:03 Like deer was so heavy and I wanted to cry because I had, I thought I had got rid of him. But then all of a sudden he reappeared again. It was almost two weeks after the news footage when my mother told us that we were going to adopt another dog. My new dog is called Viju. He's a corgi. my first dog Scamp he was really calm and quiet Beju isn't like that
Starting point is 00:23:39 in fact he parks a lot now he sleeps in my room Scamp wasn't allowed before but this new dog we let him sleep inside and it makes me feel safer when he's around if this man ever happens to come
Starting point is 00:23:58 to the house my dog would definitely Borg. After several months, I started wearing the pajamas again and I still use the pajamas even to this day. This means that I'm not afraid anymore. Sometimes I wish I had my visions back again, but maybe it's better this way so I can experience the future on my own.
