Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to Start With A Win, where we give you the tools and lessons you need to create business and personal success. Are you ready? Let's do this! hey happy thanksgiving guys happy thanksgiving tomorrow i know oh yeah i'm already salivating i got my i have kayla you haven't been on the show for a Thanksgiving episode, so I would be curious. What is your go-to Thanksgiving dinner? Like food? Like what makes it on your plate? You go to Grandma's house, and she's got like 30 things out there, the Waldorf salad, the sweet potato yams, like all this stuff. It's like, okay, I got room for four things. What's going on my plate?
Starting point is 00:01:01 Only four? No, I'm piling that thing like up into a pyramid size. Um, I'm a big stuffings gal, but I have to have the gravy. Um, I do love a good green bean casserole, but mostly it just all becomes one dish, right? Like you kind of swirl it all together and it's just one Thanksgiving bite. So I don't know, I guess stuffing and green bean casserole, but those usually become one. Wow. Well that, that I was thinking about that. I'm like, I wonder if Kayla is one of those people that spaces everything out on her plate or if she's just like pile it on baby. Oh yeah. The only thing I'm not like big on, do you guys do a
Starting point is 00:01:43 breakfast in the morning, like on Thanksgiving or do you save it all for the day? Save it all. Save it up. You only get so many calories in the day in my world. So I'm taking advantage of that. I know. Well, and I'm like, I don't know if I can eat breakfast, but like I'm a big syrup and eggs. Like I don't like when my syrup touches my eggs thing.
Starting point is 00:02:03 That's kind of like a big no, no for me. But other than that, do you fill your waffle, all the little squares with syrup and that's where it's supposed to stay. Yeah. Yeah. Cage of syrup. Usually I'll put my eggs on one plate and my pancakes or waffles on another.
Starting point is 00:02:19 That way there's some separation in there. That's kind of how they do it. Like an IHOP or something like that is they bring you the separate plate with the pancake on the side for your big stack or whatever they call it. Right. Exactly. Well, it just went off on it. I feel like we always talk about food as a collective. So listen, cause Adam, he eats so clean and pure. It's like this inspirational thing. Every time I hear him like talk about some protein shake mixed with some other magical thing to make it taste amazing or it's like oh yeah if you take some chicken and put some panko crumbs on it
Starting point is 00:02:56 yeah smash it and make it a pizza crust yeah exactly it's like on, this is great. I like, I like my food, but I will say this. We all went out for big, fancy pork chops the other day for lunch. That was kind of fun. That was. Yeah, but you're right. I mean, it's, there's something to be said about food. It's one of those pleasures in life that, um, yes, I want to keep it healthy. You don't see me with my hand in a bag of chips, but the reality is you can, you can make healthy food taste good too. Yeah. And it's a communal thing.
Starting point is 00:03:30 I feel like there's always, it's always like a way that people connect, you know, like in a, in a way of like, Oh, let's have some appetizers and talk and hang out. And so,
Starting point is 00:03:38 yeah, I think it's all about that. Finding that good balance, like staying healthy and, and also enjoying, um, stuff that's delicious. Do you, uh, do you like a good charcuterie tray?
Starting point is 00:03:49 I was just going to ask. I'm a big charcuterie gal. Yeah. Olives like pancetta, like five cheeses. Do you put like the honeycomb and the honey on it? Oh yeah, dude. Everything. Uh, do you fancy like what makes your board for you like for me it's mustard like i have to have a nice mustard on there interesting you know i wouldn't have thought of that but you know sometimes the mustard does make the cheese board um i like something sweet like a date you know or cranberries like dried cranberries it's about pairing yeah it is it is about pairing and then you know have you ever had those like white almonds that have like like truffle oil on them or something
Starting point is 00:04:32 like that they're just so delicious anyone listening to this podcast right now what do we tune into i gotta i gotta get some food right now well tomorrow's thanksgiving you know we're pumping everybody up. We're being thankful. I got a couple questions for you guys, all right? Okay. Let's see how your smarts are, your Thanksgiving smarts. You're talking about healthiness and consuming your calories per day.
Starting point is 00:05:00 How many calories on average are consumed per person at Thanksgiving dinner? Oh, my gosh. If you had to guess. At Thanksgiving dinner. I'm going to go with 2,000. I'm going like 3,800. Boom. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Price is right. Adam wins with 4,500 calories. He's closest. That's like my meals for a full week. I know. All right. No wonder people gain like three pounds in the... I know.
Starting point is 00:05:34 I'm like, it has to be the food, right? It has to be the alcohol. That's true. There's nothing like a good horse collar, cranberry. Never mind. Anyways. All right. a good horse collar cranberry never mind anyways all right how much did the world's most expensive thanksgiving dinner on record cost i'm sure it was kim kardashian right um oh boy i'm gonna go
Starting point is 00:05:57 if you had to guess i'm gonna go fifty thousand dollars oh that's that's pretty low, Kayla. I'm going $250,000. Oh. Well, Kayla wins because she didn't go over. Adam went over, so he automatically loses. It was $150,000 at New York City's Old Homestead Steakhouse. Wow.
Starting point is 00:06:20 $150,000. What the heck do you get for $150,000? Well, you could buy a Ferrari or you could get a Thanksgiving dinner. Or a house. There's a Rolex in my turkey. Your turkey has Rolexes
Starting point is 00:06:35 on its wrists. Alright, last question. Which president made Thanksgiving a permanent national holiday wow which president i'll tell you this the president that pardoned the the turkey every year that was um jfk which was interesting to me i thought they'd been pardoning turkeys longer than that so it has to be before jfk, there's your hint.
Starting point is 00:07:05 I'm going to go Eisenhower. I was going to say Eisenhower because wasn't Mrs. Eisenhower the one that was all big on the holidays? Big turkey fan? She was like made birthdays. I don't know. I'm a big American Horror Story person. All right, you're both way off. Okay, it was Abraham Lincoln.
Starting point is 00:07:22 What? Goes back. Dang. Oh, man was Abraham Lincoln. What? Goes back. Dang. Oh, man. All right. Well, hey, thanks for playing the Thanksgiving game. So who won? I'm a big competitor.
Starting point is 00:07:33 It's not like a tie to me. Yeah, I think it was a tie. I think you both got, you know, close enough. All right. Congratulations. Happy Thanksgiving. Yeah, there you go. You don't even have sound effects for Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Only the best. Yeah, there you go. Well, you know, the other thing I wanted to kind of chat with, you know, before we let everyone go and get to the store to purchase their turkey and cranberries and stuffings and all those things that they need to make a delicious dinner. Is gratitude. Adam, I know that you're a big fan of gratitude and expressing gratitude and whatnot. And one of the things that I heard recently that I thought was interesting, because we always hear that saying, gratitude's an attitude, an attitude of gratitude. But this person had said that gratitude should be an action where you actually put forth your gratitude. So if you're appreciative or thankful for somebody, instead of just feeling that, actually expressing that or showing that in a way.
Starting point is 00:08:42 And so I just thought that was kind of a different take on it. Cause I think a lot of times we get caught up or, you know, in our, in our own heads or we're super thankful for somebody or something or really appreciative, but then we're never putting that into action, which sometimes I feel like when you put your gratitudes into action, that's when you can really make a difference, you know, in the world and, you know, in other people's lives. Oh, totally. It's you know, it even goes back to, and I talk about it every now and then, uh, Dale Carnegie, how to win friends and influence people, 1936. Um, the two things we can't give ourselves are personal attention and appreciation. Both of those are forms of gratitude that, you know, we, we need to be giving out. And that's, that's one
Starting point is 00:09:25 of the things that business leaders or just, you know, colleagues for that matter, um, don't use enough of, or even, you know, walk up, you look at like travel right now, and this is the busy, one of the busiest travel years or travel days of the year is Thanksgiving and everybody's dreading it. I mean, there's already even weeks ahead of time, there are articles that have come out about how horrible and difficult it's going to be, things like that. But what if everybody just showed up at the airport and they were willing to help somebody or say, hey, thank you. It's nice to see you. Or say, tell the ticket counter person when they're taking their bag to check it in. You know, I appreciate what you do. Thank you. Stuff like that. Just, I mean, you're right. Gratitude is an action and it's actually something that we never run out of
Starting point is 00:10:16 either. So it's, it's like a smile. I talk about, you know, give out smiles as much as you can because they're free and you never run out of them. So the same thing with gratitude, you know, you give out smiles as much as you can because they're free and you never run out of them. So the same thing with gratitude. You're, you're absolutely right, Mark. Um, it's, it's something, if everybody could put a sticky note on their, their phone or their monitor or whatever it is and say, give some gratitude today, I think it would make a big difference in this world. Yeah, I, I totally agree. Well, as we wrap up, what, uh, what are you guys thankful for? What do you, what do you got Kayla? What do you got for us what are you thankful for this year you know thanksgiving 2021 i'm thankful that kayla's on this podcast just to start with thank you guys i'm thankful too for you and i'm just excited to spend the holidays with family didn't get to do that last year. And I'm thankful for family
Starting point is 00:11:05 and getting together and having that opportunity to do that this year. Yeah, totally. I'm thankful for my health and everyone in my family is really healthful, healthy. And, you know, I have some friends right now that aren't in such a good spot with COVID and other things like that. And so it just makes you really appreciate, appreciate what you do have. And then, um, you know, just makes you want to strive to be healthier and, and, uh, because if you don't have your health, you know, what do you have? Exactly. Awesome. And I'll, I'll top this whole thing off. I'm, you know, I'm, I'm thankful that we have the opportunity in our lives to take a pause and look at what we're thankful for.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Because if we just let life go by, we're going to miss out. We're going to miss out on the joys and the pleasures and the opportunities really to do great things. So I'm really thankful for that. And of course, for producer Mark and social media manager Kayla, it's so awesome to have you guys on today. And to all of our listeners, we really appreciate and love you guys and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. That's right. Thank you guys so much.
