Start With A Win - Revisited: Real Talk and Thankfulness with Adam and Kelly Contos
Episode Date: November 23, 2022On this episode of the Start With A Win podcast, we are joined by Kelly Contos, which gave Mark the perfect opportunity to practice his game show host skills during a lightning round of the N...ewlywed Game. You may be surprised to find out who looks better in glasses and who is the better singer! When it comes to supporting Adam as the CEO of such a large and prominent company, Kelly says that her main objective is to be there for whatever he needs. Sometimes that means making sure he stays on schedule and gets from place to place, and sometimes that means noticing when he needs some human interaction and sending him to the office. Kelly knows how important Adam’s work is to him, but most important are the people around him, so she encourages him to lean into his team.Adam and Kelly are both thankful for their health, the people they choose to spend life with, their freedoms, opportunities, and the successes that have resulted from those opportunities and hard work. Connect with Adam:https://www.startwithawin.com/https://www.facebook.com/AdamContosCEOhttps://twitter.com/AdamContosCEOhttps://www.instagram.com/adamcontosceo/Listen, rate, and subscribe!Apple PodcastsSpotifyGoogle Podcasts

So, yeah.
So, anyways, let's jump on into the podcast.
All right.
So, with that being said, I think today's a little bit different.
It is.
Because tomorrow is Thanksgiving. the podcast. So with that being said, I think today's a little bit different because tomorrow
is Thanksgiving. And so I thought it would be fun. I know that you're super thankful for your wife,
Kelly Contos. And so I thought, oh, how fun would it be to have her come on the show?
And we could get to know her a little bit. And I want to play a fun little game with you guys.
Oh, boy.
I'll just say that we're thankful that you're very
nice with these questions.
There aren't any cooking questions in this game,
are there? I hope not.
I hope not.
There might be some cooking
questions.
Cook a turkey.
Oh!
Alright.
I would love to hear that turkey Story Kelly
You don't want to hear it
I'll tell it to you
But I thought it would be fun if we played kind of like a newlywed game
Okay
Where we get to ask you guys who's better at this
Or who's more organized
All those kind of questions
And see what you guys come up with
So with that Who looks better in glasses?
Oh, me.
No, he looks good in those glasses.
Thank you.
I don't have glasses like Mark.
I mean, I think Kelly looks better in glasses.
Yeah, you were sporting some glasses right now.
I put a lot more thought into my glasses.
I shop for them a little bit in some boutiques
and Adam just orders them off of Amazon.
Yeah, I get them on Amazon.
I'm like, I need some cheap readers.
I'm going on Amazon.
Oh, that's awesome.
I appreciate that glasses
game.
Yeah, I mean, I gotta say,
who looks best in glasses, Mark?
I think you, buddy.
Out of the three of us.
They're a statement for you.
For sure.
It's part of my MO.
For me, it's just age and necessity.
I'm going to get some Labriolas at some point.
The Labriola line
from Oakley or something like that, you know, whatever.
Oh, yeah, totally.
I'm all about that.
I want to see you in Mark's glasses.
Oakley, if you're listening.
All right.
Hey, which one of you guys is funnier?
Me.
Yeah, definitely her.
Definitely.
At least, I mean, she laughs at herself more than me.
I think I'm funnier.
See, it's happening right now. I could see that.
I could see that. What about, uh, who's a better driver between the two of you guys? Definitely me.
Yeah. Yeah. Definitely me. I never thought that I was a bad driver until I married a cop.
Right. And then it was like everywhere we went, if I was driving,
it's like, Hey, do you know that that lane ended back there? Or you didn't put your turn signal on
or those two double yellows. Hey, did you notice that you crossed that double yellow?
You know, what's funny now is the kids, like when they're home from school, we had this happen this past weekend when Maggie was here.
We're driving along and Maggie's like, hey, mom, you know, this has a turn signal on it.
You think you're the better driver, but you let me teach them all how to drive.
All three of them I taught how to drive.
That's true.
Yeah. At least they're noticing hello exactly okay i don't usually nobody around me and i'm not using my blinker who am i signaling
to that's just you know that's a that's a good question right like who are you signaling to if
there's no one around like if a tree falls in the forest, does anyone hear it? Exactly. There's nobody around, but
he's still like, oh, he didn't use your
blinker.
He knows.
That's awesome.
It's like
when you walk up to someone with a license registration
and say, why'd you stop me? You didn't use the turn signal.
I'm the only one here.
Here we go.
Not if the cop saw it.
Tell that to the cop. He probably should have used we go the cop saw it tell that to the cop yeah exactly should have used
it because the cop saw the cop saw that's when i said something to you no there was i've never
gotten it pulled over for not using my blinker okay there it is that's all we need who's the
first to apologize in a fight you guys get a fight maybe about turn signal usage and then who's
saying, hey, I'm sorry.
I think I'm the first to apologize. Whoever gets sick of fighting
first. Yeah, it's usually me.
You're like, okay.
Let's end this. Probably.
Yeah.
Who's usually to win that argument?
Me.
She always thinks she wins the argument.
He lets me think i win the argument yes
what about which one is used more stubborn he is no no no no definitely you whatever
oh my god you're so sorry you know what you should ask the kids that question that's good should we have a we should
have a different podcast maybe christmas we'll have the kids on you know yeah maggie jack ashley
you guys are invited to be on start with a win and uh in fact some of their friends listen to
this show so um you know what was it she would just tell me
maggie yeah her roommate and somebody else i think danny and skylar danielle and skylar yeah
hey guys shout out to oklahoma to you that's right what about uh you know who's a bigger baby when they have a cold?
Next question.
The man cold is a real thing.
It's a real thing.
Enough said.
I don't like that question.
If I get a splinter or something like that, for her, it's like,
don't get into it.
Pain?
Yeah.
But the cold is,
I can't do it.
I can't get out of bed.
I can't do anything.
I don't get sick.
Hardly ever.
Hardly ever.
But when you do,
it's not good for anybody.
Fair.
I save it up.
Who's the better singer?
Definitely not me.
That's hard.
Oh, no.
I'm going to go with neither of us.
Once upon a time, I used to be a good singer.
I was in choir.
What? Okay.
Oh, yeah. I did a lot of stuff back in the day.
So you're better. Adam wasn't in choir.
I definitely was not in choir.
Yeah. Okay. I can't, I can't carry it. It'll just be my life.
I was Mary Poppins in our school musical in elementary school.
What? Just to say, just saying, just saying it was a big deal she's got me there
oh man well hey uh thank you so much for playing that game i'm uh i'm sure we learned
something we didn't know i mean i know i did so until next time we'll have you back and we'll do this game again on the next episode of
marriage counseling with mark that's great so uh i have another question kelly for you um
what would you say is
if if say there's a a ceo's wife listening now, I guess what would you say is something
that you would encourage somebody on as far as supporting somebody who's in that CEO role?
Because I know that it's difficult being a CEO of a company and there's just a lot going
on.
And so do you find there's a particular way that you support Adam or that you know,
I just need to stay out of his way or be available to listen or anything like that.
I think there's different kinds of support at different times.
You know, there's support around big events.
R4 is always such a big thing for Adam and he's so busy.
His schedule is so tight and it's go, go, go, go, go. And so I just, I try to be more of his personal
assistant during that week and just help him get to where he needs to be, get what he needs.
And just kind of, so he doesn't have to worry about anything except for going from point A
to point B. But I think there's also a lot of emotional support because it's kind of lonely being a CEO sometimes, you know, and and so I try to recognize when he's kind of feeling that way can get in a little bit of a of a funk.
And just to give him some support during those times and make sure he feels appreciated.
You know, the answer for that usually is trying to
push him out to be with his team, especially, you know, technology has been so great on letting
everybody work from home and continue their business remotely and, you know, Zoom and all
of these things. But no matter how connected you are technologically, it doesn't replace human
interaction. And so sometimes I think when you're not around all these people, you feel like
you're doing it all, you know, and you don't see what everybody else is doing. You don't always
hear what everybody else is doing. And so you start to feel like this, a little bit of isolation.
And so, you know, if I can kind of
push him out the door a little bit and say, you know, why don't you go meet with your team? Why
don't you go into the office and get every time he comes back from being around his team, having
lunch with somebody filming, you know, at the studio, he comes back so refreshed and energized.
So I don't think that you can take that human interaction and human
contact for granted. Yeah. That's awesome. And you know, they say behind every great man is a
strong woman. And so we appreciate you for that so much. Yeah. This has been fun. I'm so glad that
you've come on the show to hang out with Adam and I. And so tomorrow is Thanksgiving.
I kind of want to ask each of you, you know, what are you thankful for? And, uh, and then we'll kind
of wrap up with that. Adam, why don't you go ahead and start? Oh, I mean, first of all, I I'm,
I'm thankful for health, for the people in my life, obviously my lovely wife here and my kids and the other
great people we choose to be with in our lives because we get to choose who's with us in our
lives. And I think that's really important. You should be thankful for who you choose to be with. I'm also thankful for freedom, for this amazing place that we live. I mean,
this is a spectacular world, spectacular time for us to live here. And there are going to be
challenges, but we're going to get through those. You've got to look around just within
arm's length and understand that you should be thankful
for everything that you can just touch out there and make the most of it.
Because a lot of people, they don't notice those things and they don't appreciate them.
And that doesn't make for a very pleasant life, in my opinion.
I think if you appreciate the things that are around you, the people particularly, your
family, those that you can tell you love them. And Mark, I'm thankful to have the best podcast producer
on the planet. Okay. Oh, thanks Adam. Love you, Mark. I love you too, dude. I'm thankful for you
as well. Kelly, what about you? What are you thankful for on this Thanksgiving Eve? My podcast producer? Yes. First and foremost, your podcast producer, because your podcast is the bomb. But I mean,
I don't, how do you, how do you top what he said? How do you add to that? I mean, I'm,
I'm thankful for a lot of those things. I'm thankful very much for my health and my family and all of the people that are around us, our family and
friends. I'm thankful for the opportunities that we've had, you know, and for the successes that
we've had. And I'm thankful for Adam because he works so hard and he holds it all together.
And so we appreciate that.
We probably don't tell him that enough.
Thank you.
Yes.
And I'm also thankful that I'm not cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
Yes.
Oh, did I act thankful for that too?
It's okay.
I know you, it's no secret.
My cooking is not good.
It is not a secret.
You're not even hurting my feelings. Okay, good. All right.
Well, Hey, you guys, uh, as always, it's,
it's a blast to spend time with you and record the show.
And I'm glad that, uh,
Thanksgiving's on a Thursday and start with wing comes out on Wednesday.
And, uh,
thank you for listening and thank you for being a part of our win nation and
tuning in every week and liking and subscribing.
Um, we hope that you have a fantastic time with your family and friends and that you
look at the good that's happening in life and not focus so much on the negative and
bad.
So with that, happy Thanksgiving and we'll see you next week.
Happy Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving.
