that fireplace is very relaxing though it is it's yeah if you are uh just listening to this
uh make sure you head over to YouTube so you can watch the fireplace.
We have some reindeer games.
We got some reindeer games.
If you don't know what that means,
make sure that you also go to YouTube
so that you know what the reindeer games are.
Alright, I'm going to try to
make some...
Can you get one of those
on my antlers? I'm going to try. Let's see.
Alright.
Yay! Try to make some. Can you get one of those on my antlers? I'm going to try. Let's see. All right. Oh.
Yeah.
Let's go.
All right.
Now I can take these things off.
Now you can switch hats.
All right.
You know what?
If anyone ever says that executives are no fun, you haven't met Adam.
No. No.
Exactly.
I look like Bullwinkle the Moose with this on.
Bullwinkle.
Yeah, you need the red nose to make sure the Rudolph effect is.
There you go.
Something a little bit more traditional.
There we go.
Santa hat.
That's awesome.
Hey, welcome to Start With A Win.
Is that where we are?
That's right.
That's where we are, you know.
This is the holiday episode.
So every year we get together and we just enjoy our families and our friends
and we enjoy the holiday season, whether you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah
or Kwanzaa, whatever that is, there's peace, love, and joy all around for everyone.
Do you want to sing to us?
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
There we go.
And last year, I think we played a game.
We did.
A movie quiz game.
Yeah.
And so this year, we got engineer James and assistant producer Janie on the episode.
Wearing their fun Christmas sweaters.
That's right.
Like I said, if you're not watching this on YouTube, you need to go over to YouTube and watch this.
James, are you a Star Wars fan?
I'm a little bit of a Star Wars fan.
You know, my parents' first date was Star Wars 1977.
So without that movie, I wouldn't
be here. Wow.
That's powerful. Star Wars, baby.
Yeah.
There you go.
That's so awesome. What else can
you say? And Janie's actually wearing a regular
Christmas sweater. I love
that. It's so nice. You know, I go
old school. You are old school. I go with the authentic ugly Christmas sweater. I love that. It's so nice. You know, I go old school.
You are old school. I go with the authentic ugly Christmas sweater.
But your mug is very movie related.
Mm-hmm.
Merry Christmas, you filthy animals.
You know, I would say, okay, real quick,
everyone's favorite Christmas movie.
I will say that home alone and home alone
two lost in new york uh are probably like up there for like my favorite entertaining okay and it's
hard because you know you got like the christmas vacation and stuff like that those are good but
i feel like i never get tired of seeing those guys like get hit with paint cans and you know
step on nails and slip down the stairs like
every year i kind of laugh you know we watch it with the kids um and then serious movie i'm going
um uh probably it's a wonderful life like every year watch that i get teary-eyed when all the
friends come at the end and like you know a man with friends isn't broke, you know, and it's just like, oh, so good. There you go. What about you?
Die Hard.
Die Hard is a Christmas movie, Kelly.
Yippee-ki-yay.
That's right.
Nakatomi Plaza, Christmas party.
Oh, that's good. Okay, so that's your more serious one or what?
That's just kind of the general.
I don't know.
That's a Christmas movie.
I like it.
Okay, Bruce Willis, you know, it's in I don't know.
It's it's kind of I'm an action adventure guy.
Yeah.
Hey, but I do like just, you know, that traditional Christmas story or whatever it is.
I saw the Broadway play for that.
Oh, it's so good.
Yeah.
I saw that too.
Ebenezer Scrooge.
Yeah, the Christmas Carol.
Yeah, Christmas Carol.
Yeah.
And I mean, it was just fabulous.
Did you see it here in town?
No, I saw it in New York.
You lucky dog.
Yeah.
It was unreal.
I can only imagine because the one in Denver here is really good
and like the effects and all the stuff they did.
So I could just imagine it's like next level in broadway it was so cool yeah and it was it was small um real intimate theater yeah
real intimate theater one of those little bitty ones where there's like 20 rows deep is it oh wow
and the the the characters are like right in front of you singing and performing and then
they even had this thing where like they were handing props out through the audience,
and then the audience would hand them back.
But you cried like half of the show.
It was so good.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
All right, what about you guys?
Engineer James, Assistant Producer Janie.
Let's go first.
Star Wars is not a Christmas movie, James.
No, there is a holiday Christmas Star Wars thing.
I tried to watch it with my kids this time this year,
and we had to turn it off.
It was painful.
Our family's number one is probably White Christmas.
Mark, you kind of took mine,
but I'm going to throw in the Peanuts.
Oh, yeah.
I love that one. The piano. Everything, yeah. I love that one.
The piano.
Absolutely.
Everything about it.
Yeah, that soundtrack.
I love that.
It's just great.
It's great.
Yeah.
No, absolutely.
I would say favorite funny Christmas movie is Elf.
Oh, that is.
So many quotable moments.
Totally.
Santa!
Santa!
Exactly.
You sit on a throne of lies.
You smell like beef and cheese.
You don't smell like Santa.
Yeah.
No, James and I were talking about that yesterday.
Like it is, it's the last classic Christmas movie, I think, that has come out.
And it's going to be 20 years old next year.
Is it serious?
That's what it came to me. Came old next year. Seriously? That's what they're saying to me.
It came out in 2003.
No way.
Wow.
If you want to feel old, there you go.
Thank you.
Wow.
You're doing that to me.
A good movie and a bit of trivia.
Exactly.
Speaking of trivia.
Speaking of trivia.
Oh, wait.
Didn't you have a serious movie?
Yeah.
What's your serious one?
Oh, serious.
Let's see.
Yeah.
I think Mark stole mine as well.
It's a Wonderful Life.
I cry at the end every time.
God bless us, everyone.
That's right, yeah.
Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.
No one's given love to Miracle on 34th Street,
the original one from like, you know, the 40s.
Yeah, I was like, which one?
Yeah, not the remake from like
the 90s but like the black and white one they do like the macy's parade and stuff that's a good one
too my kids don't like it into the courthouse yeah exactly all the letters so many good movies
so so what is it jenny your serious one oh i was gonna say it was a it's a wonderful life okay
that's you could have the same one as marks too yeah i know
that's hey what i just know it's good so you just exactly so hey speaking of trivia we got a little
game here uh you know since it is christmas um you got a little trivia game for us right jenny
i do i do so it's a combination of some Christmas movie trivia, some Christmas
songs, and a little bit of Christmas history. So we're going to, well, it's between Mark and Adam
and James, and we'll just have a little showdown here. See how it goes. All right. So, and I will
be keeping score. Oh, okay. I like that. I'm a pretty how it goes. All right. So, and I will be keeping score.
Oh,
okay.
I like that.
I'm a pretty competitive person.
We got tiebreaker
and everything.
All right.
So,
first off,
speaking of Elf,
in the movie Elf,
what does Buddy confess
to cramming
into the VCR?
Bonus points
if you can name how many.
Oh,
dang.
Whoa.
This is a hard one.
I thought we were going to get softball starting off.
Dang.
Not from here.
It feels like it's going to have to be something like marshmallows.
Yeah, or cookies, like sugar cookies or something like that.
Ooh, ooh.
Mark got it.
It's cookies.
Oh, let's go.
How many?
Dang.
How many for a bonus point?
12. Close. many? Dang. How many for a bonus point? 12.
Close.
11.
Dang.
I was thinking like 12 days of Christmas, so maybe.
You should get some sort of credit for getting that close.
Yeah.
You're very, very close.
It's like Price is Right.
You're over.
It's like.
I did like the marshmallows, though.
That would be a good one, James.
That's something that would happen in my household.
Marshmallows.
Marshmallows crammed into the VCR.
That would be a disaster in a VCR.
Totally.
Sticky marshmallows.
All right.
All right.
Next up.
So which one of Santa's reindeer has the same name as another holiday mascot?
Whoa.
Which one of Santa's reindeer has the same name? Oh, mascot. Whoa. Which one of Santa's reindeer have the...
Oh, I got it.
Cupid.
That's right.
Ding, ding, ding.
Oh, wow.
Cupid.
Yeah.
Here comes Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Cupid.
No, it's Vixen.
Oh, Vixen.
Missed a couple of them in there.
Comet and Cupid. Cupid, Don Vixen. Oh, Vixen. Missed a couple of them in there. Comet and Cupid.
Cupid.
Donner and Blitzen.
There you go.
But do you recall?
All right.
We ready for the next one?
Okay, yeah.
All right.
So what is the name of the guardian angel
that George Bailey meets in the movie
It's a Wonderful Life?
Oh, dang.
Mark, you've got to come through.
I know.
Is it Francis?
No.
Oh.
Adam?
Joseph?
Okay, I know this one.
You got it?
It's Clarence.
That's right.
Clarence.
Clarence.
Clarence Oddbody.
It's guardian angel. Yes, I know that now. What kind of name is Clarence. Clarence. Clarence. Clarence. Clarence Oddbody. His guardian angel.
Yes, I know that now.
What kind of name is Clarence anyways?
It's a great name.
It's a great name, Mark.
Clarence.
I like that name.
All right.
So a little Christmas song or a Christmas carol history.
So what song was written in California during a heat wave in 1945? White Christmas.
Close. That sounds like it should be White Christmas because of all the heat.
Let It Snow. Let It Snow is right. So here you go. A little bit of history. I thought this was cool. So it was written by a composer and a lyricist in July of 1945 in Hollywood, California,
as the musicians wished for cooler conditions.
Wow.
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful.
And since we know place to go let it snow
let it snow
let it snow
yeah
so they're writing this
but it's like
65 degrees outside
they sit on a throne of lies
it's snowing today
here in Colorado
it is snowing today
here in Colorado
it actually is snowing
beautiful yeah
feels like Christmas
alright
so going back to movies,
what language does Ralphie's father think fragile is in when he opens his
prize in the movie,
a Christmas story?
Fragile.
I don't want to speak out of turn.
Cause I,
it's like,
it's like,
I think,
I think of it.
Fragile.
Fragile. It's like, Oh, must be French. I think of it. Fragile. Fragile.
It's like, oh, must be French.
I don't know.
Or is it Italian?
It's like must be.
It's Italian.
He says it.
Yeah, because it's like, you know, Fred, because he's like fragile.
He's like, must be Italian.
Gotcha.
This is nice.
I was going to say French, too. But when you said french and she's like no it's italian
i'm not doing so well here i'm it's all right it's christmas who cares that's right this is
more about the fun and our audience listening i'm sure they're driving or working out or
you know cooking their roast and enjoying this episode. Playing Tribble-A-Long with us.
They're probably all yelling at their...
Exactly.
At their, you know...
Yeah, totally.
It's Italian!
Their radio.
Come on, it's Italian!
At the radio.
There's somebody on the treadmill.
You know.
Screaming right now.
Yeah.
Yelling at their iPod.
There you go.
iPod.
iPod.
Wow.
Come on, Mark.
That fits with the VHS, doesn't it? That's right, yeah. Did you ever have an iPod. iPod. Wow. Come on, Mark. That fits with the VHS, doesn't it?
That's right, yeah.
Did you ever have an iPod, actually?
I did have an iPod.
Yeah.
I remember I got the third generation iPod.
It was the only one they made that had the touch glow in the orange ones.
Oh, yeah.
Had the touch buttons across the front.
We have a couple of iPods at home.
Do you really?
Yeah, they won't even fire up.
You can plug them in and nothing happens. They're vintage
now. You should keep them as like a
decoration for something.
Paperweight? Like what? Yeah, this is true.
Some of them are heavy enough for that.
Yeah, it's a brick.
Well, you know, when we do a
video studio at Area 15,
maybe we can have the tech
wall and have some vintage
like background, like a background with some vintage tech on it.
That would be cool.
Yeah, I'll have to break those out and keep them handy.
That's right.
Exactly.
I like it.
All right.
Let's see.
Okay, so.
I think Mark's winning right now.
I think I am too.
Mark, slight lead over Engineer James.
All right.
So what name do we call the snowman in the song Winter Wonderland?
Frosty?
I got it.
Parson Brown.
There you go.
Oh.
Ding, ding, ding.
Dang it.
We have a tie so far.
Parson Brown.
Wow.
Yeah, that's right.
I thought that was the name of the guy at the street corner or something like that.
Yeah.
Adam's like singing the song in his head.
I'm trying to, yeah.
I was like.
Oh, no, no, no.
It's a wrong song.
In the meadow, we will build a snowman
and pretend that he is
Parson Brown.
Oh, yeah.
James.
Leave it to the smart guy.
All right.
Let's see. Let's switch it.
This is
who can get the closest to the year
without going over.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
So when was Christmas declared a federal holiday in the United States?
Oh, we don't get a multiple choice?
Wow.
Okay, I'll give you a multiple choice.
Let's see.
A, 1915.
B, 1794, C, 1784, and D, 1870.
Wow.
Let's see.
A federal holiday?
In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
Reverse engineer this.
In 1776.
It's got to be after that.
Yeah, it's got to be after that.
1776.
There was no federal government before that.
What did you say, 1915?
Is that one of those?
Yes.
I'm going to go 1915.
I'm going to go 18, what was the 18 one? 1870?
1870? 1870. Yeah.
I'm going to go there.
Alright. I got nothing.
Come on, James. Pick one.
You can vote twice on the same one.
Yeah.
What was Adam? Adam, what was your year? 1915.
Yeah.
I think it's before that.
I'm going to go the earliest possible.
Oh, okay.
I can't remember the choices.
I'm going to be honest, guys.
I didn't come with actual multiple choices for this,
so I made them up on the fly.
Nice.
Well done.
So I don't even remember, but I do know the right answer,
and Mark actually got the right answer.
Whoa.
It is 1870.
1870. I'm the winner!
I'm the winner, right?
So far. So
it was President Ulysses S. Grant
he signed into legislation.
Right on Ulysses.
President Grant.
It was the same year
that he declared New Year's Day and
July 4th as federal holidays.
Wow.
He sounds like a fun president.
Yeah, totally.
Let's have some parties.
That's right.
He just wanted some days off.
I know.
That's exactly what it was.
It gave the federal workers a day off.
His wife's like, Ulysses, can you take these days off?
It's like, ah.
All right, we'll make it holidays.
All right.
