Starting point is 00:00:00 Yo, what is good, everybody? You're listening to the Statenkilo podcast, where we're going to help you stress a little bit less and enjoy a whole lot more. Today we got a good one for you. I'm here with my boy, Oscar, aka OG Vives. Yo, what up? OG Vives.
Starting point is 00:00:13 That's OG 97 on Spotify and Apple, you feel me? Yeah, and we'll get into all this shit before, but yeah. Point of this podcast today is Oscar's, he just got into some music, right? And we wanted to kind of bring that to life, spread the message that he's trying to spread reach a new audience
Starting point is 00:00:32 and just kind of give a little background of how we met, how this podcast kind of came to be and just kind of catching up and seeing what the fuck's going on in Oscar's life. So bro, go away, like tell people what you got going on in your side of the world and if you want to say how we met and shit like that. But we go kind of back.
Starting point is 00:00:54 Yeah, yesterday just dropped my album, first album, first project. music I've ever released Apple, Spotify, all streaming platforms. So pushing that right now, got a lot of plans for that, a lot of content, a lot of visuals, trying to push that. As for me, my boy right here, that's what's funny. We made in Fit to Run. Yes, sir. Out there working. I think you were a manager, right? You eventually got his manager. I did it under being a manager. He put me on, put me on how to sell them shoes and all that stuff. And we was just there vibing and we clicked from the first moment. We became boys
Starting point is 00:01:28 moving boys since yeah no I mean we had a we had a pretty solid squad there I fit to run I know I know many people came to fucking visit there hang out it was like more of a hangout spot than an actual like shoe store I felt like like just hooking up the boys always with some new cakes um if they wanted to actually run like we'd help them out on the running shoes but dude it was like I brought my boys in you brought your boys in to work there but it was a it was a dope spot I mean shout out to to David, Eric, Ben, Ronnie, all the dudes out there. But yeah, dude.
Starting point is 00:02:04 So, yeah, I met Oscar at Fitzuron and kind of, you know, we reconnected. Like, you know, I feel like everyone always, like, stayed in touch pretty much after, like, but my brother, my brother was there. Shout to Austin. My brother was there, too. Came in late into the game, but he was there for a little bit. But, yeah, I was a solid squad. We had good-ass times.
Starting point is 00:02:25 They ate a lot of shit there. But yeah, I know. So after, well, during, I think you were at Fitzuron, you started the brand essentials. Yeah. That was that, that was during. Uh-huh. It was like the last two months. Like when the store was already about to close down, I'm like, what am I going to do, man?
Starting point is 00:02:42 And like, yeah, I've been talking about it. It was you. It was Adrian. Yeah, me and Adrian. You and Adrian. Yeah. And what was like the thought process and the mindset behind like why you guys ended up starting that? So it's crazy because I was always into fashion.
Starting point is 00:02:56 I've always been into clothes and stuff. And like, Adrian has a very good business mind. So he would always be like, yo, let's start like something. You know, we were in college, young, 19. It was like, yo, let's do something, make some money on the side. Like, whatever. Like, let's just try some shit out. And then he had told me like, yo, we should do like, you're into fashion.
Starting point is 00:03:14 I know business. Like, let's combine our minds and do a brand. Yeah, work makes a dream work. Exactly. And then we just freaking went there and we ran with it. And we did our thing, you feel me? Designing clothes, dropping clothes, all that. Yeah, you guys went off on the design front.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Yeah, everything. And how did you guys come up with the name of essentials? Because I thought it was a sick-ass name. Yeah, that was him. He was like, yo. Bro, because we were literally sitting in my, I remember we were sitting like in my garage. And I was like, that's always how it goes down. Yeah, it goes down to garage.
Starting point is 00:03:41 It's crazy because like, like, what's his name? Jeff Bezos. Yeah. All these guys started in the garage. Yeah. It's crazy. So we were just there and it was like, bro, like, what's a name? And we were coming down with lists of stuff.
Starting point is 00:03:52 And he was just like, yo, like, I like essentials. And I was like, yeah, bro, that's, I think that's good. You feel me? Like,
Starting point is 00:03:59 it's fire, let's run with it, let's do it. And we just ran with it. You have to copy your essentials, like that's just a thing. Yeah, exactly,
Starting point is 00:04:04 fire. And is that, is that thing still alive? Or what's going on? Yeah, right now it's been on like a... Like a pause? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:04:11 like at a pause. Yeah, like, a lot of like life stuff. Like, we're both working like our full-time jobs. So we don't have as much time to like, because it's a lot. Working a brand,
Starting point is 00:04:20 like... That alone is a full-time job. Yeah, it really is. If you really want to invest your time into that and everything, like you're committed to that. So, like, when we did it, we was in college. And obviously, like, I took four classes a semester. And besides that, like, I had so much free time, I was just designing, designing, working on the brand, printing clothes, shipping clothes.
Starting point is 00:04:38 But now that, like, we got more stuff going on. It's a little harder. So we're kind of going through a, like, a pause kind of thing and trying to see, like, all right, what's the next step? Yeah, like, do we have to bring somebody else on board to help us? Do we have to make it more automated? And seeing where we go from here, but it's definitely something that we always love
Starting point is 00:04:55 and people still be rocking our clothes. So hopefully, yeah. Hopefully as in the future, we could keep pushing that. I feel that, bro. Like, same thing with me. Like, you know, with like my brand and my movement, like, you know, like life happens.
Starting point is 00:05:07 And sometimes you've got to figure out like what your priorities are at the moment. But, you know, it's like not letting it become like a dead cause just because like you want to, you know, you just, you don't have time for it. Yeah. People go through those phases. and you're going to, you know, you're going to, like, have to figure shit out.
Starting point is 00:05:22 But, you know, you need money. Like, you need time. And the brands will grow over time. You just got to stay consistent with it. For sure, for me, like, I started working, you know, and then it was like, bringing in the money right now. Like, this is what, you know, this is what I need to do what I want to do. And whatever I do, I can, I can reinvest it back into the brand,
Starting point is 00:05:44 back into the company, you know, because, like, I got to find funds from somewhere, you know. And a startup is not going to do it by itself. So I feel that 100%. What, like, what's you been your, like, best moment from, like, when you started essentials and shit like that. Yeah, that's a good question, man. Yeah. Because, bro, there's always, like, something rewarding from that shit that you put out. Honestly, I would say two things.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Like, I think they probably go together. Like, I think the best moment was probably, like, the pop-up shops. Because it was, like, obviously, on Instagram, people show love. And they might buy something online. But, like, seeing people come up. come to your like pop-up shop for a day and like be there and like buy clothes and like people you don't even know like there was so obviously you have your boys and your family and they come through and they show love and I love that.
Starting point is 00:06:28 It's happened to be walking by. Yeah, but you have someone walking by or someone that just heard of it from a flyer and they're like, yo, let me check this out. And that was honestly like the craziest thing. Like seeing all the people there and like our biggest sales came from those days, like the pop-up shops. Like we would just get so much inventory out and that was really dope and obviously just and meeting like meeting new people through the brand.
Starting point is 00:06:47 You know what I mean? Like there was people who heard of the brand and then like, yo, who does this brand? And then just connecting like either with models or photographers or videographers or just people who were fans of the fans of the brand. And then like I got a connection with them like that type of thing. So just like all the networking of it was really was really cool. It's crazy how like when I started this shit like I just started meeting a bunch of people just strictly because they're like, yo like I fuck with what you're doing or you know what you're doing is cool. Like I support it like like tell me more about it. Like from that alone, dude, like you're getting a shit ton of good conversations.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Like you said, the networking is huge because you're putting yourself out there in spots that you probably never would have put yourself out before. You know, like, what was it? Last year I did like an epiphany fishing tournament, bro. And it was like a bunch of people and they started seeing the brand and they were like, yo, what the hell is this? Like, this is super dope. It's Miami. Like, I've never, I've never seen that before. And I'm like, oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:39 But like, you know, that shit would never happen if you don't start some shit like that. But yeah, those moments are. are definitely those are like the ones And we start building Like the fan base And shit like that That's sick
Starting point is 00:07:50 You're like Like bro I fucking create Yeah Honestly that's like The biggest thing with me And I think you would agree Too like the way You have your brand
Starting point is 00:07:56 And like you're doing your podcast Like yeah I feel like the biggest joy in life Really comes from creating stuff Like making something Being like yo That's me Like
Starting point is 00:08:04 It's your baby bro Yeah And you watch you grow And it's like Bro and stuff and it's like I've always been into creating Like obviously I know what I'm better at
Starting point is 00:08:12 Like obviously like I'm into the music And the fashion Like I used to draw when I was little or like take pictures or freaking write a book or you know like anything anything that you create like it's just like that's like the ultimate joy like the creativity like the creativity however like people look at creativity like it's only like if you could draw or some shit like that but like bro like thinking alone is creative or even like our best ideas come up from just blabbing some
Starting point is 00:08:36 stupid shit and I could imagine you here like coming up with like a marketing idea that's like bro anything think about it you got to come up with a creative solution to differentiate yourself from everybody else that comes from marketing comes from like you creating your brand like now your music portfolio like you know like we live in a world bro where there's everything already like everything exists like you're not creating anything new you're just creating something better and different yeah and putting your twist on it exactly it's your personal your personal creative touch so I feel that bro but like talking about what we were talking about now the music so you started the essentials brand right you know obviously that that built some hype and and this kind of like definitely ties together you know the brands and what
Starting point is 00:09:13 the brand stood for and now you know now your music um and obviously i know you've been a huge like music fan i remember i remember i remember us talking about you know top fives like kentrick travis drake everything everybody i mean like yo who is the top five and and i and i just creating like he did he did uh heated discussions at the store and which is dope bro because that's why i fuck with music like that it goes back to like that personal like it's on you like that's why it's a piece of art so it's like i fuck with kendrick because of XYZ, you fuck with Drake more because of X, Y, Z. You know, so, like, that shit's dope.
Starting point is 00:09:48 So, you know, you're doing essentials, but now you've obviously put your, I guess, your priority more towards creating the music. So, tell me, I guess, tell us a little bit about, like, how you shifted that and, like, why that kind of went out. Yeah, that's a good one. Yeah, so I've always been into music. Always with, like, freestyle with the boys, rap battle. Like, everyone knows me as a big hip hop head.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Like, yeah, yeah. 90s, 2000s, like everything about rap, like I almost know everything. You were always putting this up on the new art. I'll let you check this out, check this out. Be like, yo, you got to check out this guy. And like, yeah, even when I was doing the brand, like, I was still like writing songs, like for myself. You know what I mean? Like, I knew I wasn't going to record it or put it out because I didn't feel like it was good enough.
Starting point is 00:10:30 But I was always like checking out beats and writing stuff and freestyling with the boys. And then like it got to the point where I think really like the 9 to 5 life started hitting me more. When I got a little bit older, started working more full time. it was like, man, like this is good for now. And like it provides like what I need for right now, like bill wise and like saving wise and stuff like that. But like it's not what I want to do forever. Like I don't want to be 27 doing this.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Like I want to be able to be like comfortable in my own way. And like we were mentioned earlier like creating. So the music was just something out like, yo, I think I'm good enough to like make some music right now. Yeah. It's like I'm not going to say it's easy because obviously being an artist and like having your aesthetic and your flow and your lyrics and your beat selection. All that. It's not easy.
Starting point is 00:11:12 There's a lot that goes into it. But once, I feel like once you get really good at something, it becomes automated. Like, LeBron goes on the court. Yeah, LeBron goes on the court. He's going to do what he has to do because he's so good at it. So I feel like I got to that point where I was like, yo, I can make go to the studio for in two hours make six songs. Like just pop, blah, blah, blah. And like, they're all going to be good.
Starting point is 00:11:30 So I remember just telling my boys, I was literally leaving work one day. And I'm like, man, bro, like, bad day at work. Like, I don't want to do this forever. And I was just telling my boys like, yo, let's go to the studio this weekend. And they were like, oh, you sure? And I was like, yeah, bro, let's do it. Like, let's see what's up. Like, I got to record something.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Yeah. And we went and it was like me and two of my closest boys, Tony and Mike, who were actually, like, for this album, they were super. They were involved in it. Yeah, they were super involved with it. I gave them credits on the album because they were, like, doing their tweaks on everything. So we went to the studio that first time. And then it was like, we recorded some stuff. And I'm like, yo, it sounds good.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Like, it was the first time I heard myself recorded in like forever. And I'm like, yo, this is good. And they're like, yo, it's fire. So I'm like, all right. My thing was like, all right, y'all are my boys. be biased. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. So then I started bringing more people to the studio. Like, obviously people I know, but that they don't have like a tight connection with me. Like, oh, so-and-so's boy or this person. If they fuck with it, they do. If not, they would say something.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Exactly. It's like, yo, come to the studio, check it out. And like, I would keep recording. They'd be like, yo, this is far. This is as far. This is fire. And then I started getting a vision. I'm like, yo, I want to make it an album. Like, all my favorite artists, they drop albums. So I'm like, let me drop an album. And like, that's the thing that threw me off was you know you came out with the music but it wasn't just one song that you dropped like what was it six nine nine nine yeah that's nuts bro yeah so that was one of the main things because i'm like man i feel like like if we were to put you in the studio right now obviously you don't rap you don't make music but if we were to get you in there and like give you some tips
Starting point is 00:12:54 you can make a song like making a song almost anybody can make a song these days it's not the hardest thing so i was like to differentiate myself i was like man let me make like a body of work and like if i can make nine good songs and like kind of tell a story and each song like have a similar sound just like all my favorite artists do like drake does like Travis do they all they all just are connected which is dope because you're like I'm listening to this one because this is exactly what I want to go to you and like when we were making the track list like oh this song flows good to this one and then this one it was just a super creative process and when I put it out I knew a lot of people were going to be like whoa like this is a full body like this is nine songs like I know it
Starting point is 00:13:30 built a lot more, a lot more hype and like people just loving the project and supporting like, yo, this guy really put in a lot of work. It wasn't just one song. Anyone could drop a song. But I was like, let me make a full album. Yeah. And then that's where it came from. And now I got like a lot of plans moving forward. Like we just dropped it. What day is it today? Saturday. Yeah. So we dropped it yesterday. Right. Yeah. Friday. Yeah. Friday. Which is always the move of good Friday. Everyone's always down for some new music or something like that. For sure. So dropped it. And then now it's just a lot of promotion and just getting like the marketing. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:14:03 I believe in the music. I believe in like myself. And now it's just, all right, let's push it to as many people as we can. And got a lot of plans for like music videos and like more content and even doing more. One of your boys is a video like videographer. Yeah, one of my boys. I got a lot of boys. Yeah, photographers, videographers, producers.
Starting point is 00:14:20 That's the best thing, bro. Like I listen to Gary Vee a lot. Yeah, Gary Vee is the goat. Yeah. Like, you know, he's a lot for some people. but like bro he speaks a truth yeah for sure he's talked on on on subjects like this before and it's just like dude like you look around and probably like the five guys around you offer something that can make some shit work like you got the videographer you got you that's like the talent you know you got
Starting point is 00:14:45 the marketing guy you got the business head bro you put that shit together and you got like a team yeah you got a team bro and and you're winning together which is the best part bro that's another that's that's a thing that i that i preach bro like you know winning is all right you know winning is Like I love it like I love it more than anything I've always been like that when I was a kid bro like I hated to lose Yeah, but there's something that's way more rewarding is when you win with the people around you Right's like that's that's just like it's it hits different yeah and honestly that was probably another Inspiration for me making the music too is because a lot of my boys like I mean I'm not gonna say like oh we're dead broken in poverty But everyone goes to their own struggles their own situations. Yeah like some of my boys they might be like in student loan there
Starting point is 00:15:27 or they might just have like an issue with their family like their mom might be sick or you know just things like that that makes their life harder and everyone goes through that and a lot of my boys are like yo look man like i believe in your music like let's push it and they were the ones that are like pushing me to do it and be like look i'm gonna like be like a manager i'm gonna be a producer i'm gonna do this like let's work together let's get it out there and like just how you said went together like i want to get to my point at the top and bring all my boys the bigger you get the bigger they all get bro and it's just it just opens the doors to so much shit like me and we all went together you yeah and we all went together you yeah and we all went together yeah yeah and we all went together you We all want to you. Like, think about that, bro. You go, you're going on tour. Your boys are with you. Like, every, bro, like, that's, like, to me, winning alone is good. Obviously, it's rewarding because, like, you did that shit. But when you put in the work together, bro, like, collaborative, dude, like, there's.
Starting point is 00:16:14 That's the best, man. It's like a family. It's like a family. Everyone needs that family, man. Especially, like, when you're down or something, like, you know you got your boys or your family or even your girl to, like, uplift you and, like, keep pushing you type things. So, for sure. Sometimes you need that.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Especially, like. When it because bro, when you take that that step to kind of just do your own thing, it gets lonely sometimes. And you're like, bro, am I doing this? And then it's those people around you are the ones that like, yo, like, I like, I like your shit. Like keep doing what you're doing. Like that's the shit that keeps you going. Like I'll be out and someone will be like, dude, like I saw like some shit like, bro, like I really needed that the other day or like I appreciate what you're doing. Like those moments right there.
Starting point is 00:16:53 I'm just like, bro, that's, that's it. That's all I need to like to. to know that I'm doing something right. For sure. It may not work out exactly as you planned, but by you doing that, bro, people appreciate you for taking that step of like not knowing what the fuck's going to happen. But you know that this is what you want to do. Like you said, the day you were driving home from work and you're like, nah, like, I'm not
Starting point is 00:17:17 going to be doing this for the rest of my life. And that was the same shit with me. I was like, I was, you know, working in an industry that I was like not excited to go to. And then I was just like, bro, like, I'm 22. Like, why am I going to start something that right now I already don't like? Then 10 years from now, what? I'm going to have to make that same decision. And when I, 10 years ago, I said that I didn't like it already.
Starting point is 00:17:40 And we only got one light to live. So we got to make it just live it how we want to live, man, for real. Live it how you want to do it, bro. I feel you. And right now, like, in the music world, like, what? I know you said that you were going to market it, obviously. But, like, are you still making music? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Yes. Yes, my biggest thing too was like, because I probably could have dropped the music. I think I went to the studio the first time, maybe around like September of 2019. So September of 2011, so that's like six months that I've been like recording. And I was like, oh, in September, October, November, I probably recorded all the songs that I have on this album. And like, I was like, yo, I could drop this in December. Yeah. But I was like, I didn't want to put something out and have nothing else in the, in like the vault.
Starting point is 00:18:23 You know what I mean? So I just kept recording. Just be like the well's dry. Exactly. So I'm like, yo, okay. So then like around January, I was like, okay, I have like these nine songs I'm put on an album. I got like 15 other songs ready.
Starting point is 00:18:35 I got like 10 more written that I'm going to record. Like I just want to keep because that's another thing too. I see a lot of artists who I'm like, yo, their shit is really dope. But I feel like they're not that consistent. You know what I mean? As a new artist, even if you're not a new artist, a new brand, a new photographer, a new model, whatever you're doing that's new. You got to keep going and get your shit out there.
Starting point is 00:18:54 No one's going to take you serious until like, bro, you've been in it. Because I never like, all right, this is this is it. Like, this is what he's doing, you know? Because, bro, everyone wants to be a model. Everyone wants to be like a business owner, you know, start their own thing. But it's like two weeks, yeah. And you can do it for two weeks, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:12 It's, yo, a year from now. What are you doing? Are you still doing it? Or you still? Because, bro, then it gets quiet. They're like, the hype is like, yo, what? What? And that's when it gets tough because the first two weeks is fun.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Exactly, bro. Everyone's like, fuck, yeah. Everyone gets on with their life and then that's it. Like, people move on. You know, they're cheering for you. But, like, they're not going to be carrying you the whole way there. For sure. So, consistency is super key.
Starting point is 00:19:34 And, yeah, I'm just, I already have, like, it's crazy because I just drop one album, but I'm already, like, visualizing the next one. You know what I mean? And I'm like, all right. Like, I know I'm going to promote this for, like, four, five, six months. And I'm like, yo, I already have, like, title ideas and I already have songs recorded. And, like, I'm like, okay, the next one's going to be better. Like, always get better and better and better.
Starting point is 00:19:53 That's the best. man and like a lot of my favorite artists they always gave us music you know what I mean like Drake is always giving you something you know what I mean and he's at the top like he could do whatever he could at this point yeah he could disappear if he wanted to and still
Starting point is 00:20:05 be making money but he knows his fans need it and like this year he's probably gonna drop another album and then just just keep going with it and that's like similar to what I want to do just keep dropping stuff keep dropping and I know like artists usually they do like try to do like live performances
Starting point is 00:20:21 and shit like that like I don't know how the shit how that show works but like that's have you have you like have you looked into that or that's something that a lot of my boys been telling me like yo you got to like perform just so like you yeah so you can put yourself out there yeah get out there more people can see it um right now i haven't looked into it too much like i know um one of my boys recommended me to like this uh venue that throws a lot of concerts and like yo look i know them reach out to them you know what i mean maybe like when a big artist comes through you can open up for them and like their fans will see you and just stuff like that because that definitely helps as an artist you have to perform you have to
Starting point is 00:20:53 You got to put yourself in a place where people haven't seen. Yeah, exactly. It's similar to the way I used to do pop-up shops. It's like, oh, you're doing an event and you're like having your stuff. This concert is the same thing. And it's something, even if it's just one or two concerts a year, like definitely got to perform. So that's something I definitely want to do like in the future too. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Yeah. And like when you like here being in Miami, do you think you're like at an advantage or a disadvantage in the music world? Man, that's a good question, bro. That's a good question, bro. Because like I feel like the music. I feel like the music here is is not what it is in some other places. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Honestly, bro, and that's something I think about like on the regular and it's like, all right, Miami has this pros and cons with everything. And as an artist... And I'm glad you brought that up.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Yeah, that's good. As an artist, someone trying to make music, it has pros because obviously there's so many people out here, you know what I mean? And like this big city, so many people. A lot of distractions. And like all those people,
Starting point is 00:21:47 that's potential fans. But then again, I feel like Miami has a lot of people that they don't really fuck with you until like until you're legit yeah until you get a co-sign like like okay let's say I just drop this album and like obviously I'm getting a lot of love
Starting point is 00:22:00 and I'm not tripping about it like a lot of people I've been hitting me up saying it's dope it's fire whatever but there are some people I know for sure that are like okay whatever they're just looking from the sidelines and like okay like if freaking LeBron James were to like post my song
Starting point is 00:22:15 then everyone will be blowing me up because of that and it's the same music it's just they just need that what's the word like they need that validation that validation yeah before they could really fuck with you so and that's one of the main things when i come to mind with like the marketing thing is like i saw it with my brand too a lot of people outside your city will love you more than in your own city so for with the music i'm trying to push it out yeah i'm trying to push it out like i look at my spotify numbers and it's like okay i have people in new york listening i have people
Starting point is 00:22:42 in chicago l a i know a lot of those people might support me more than somebody that grew up down the street for me because they know who you are so they're like Like, yeah, they have like a bias of you. They have, they, bro, I know you used to play little league together. Like, what are you doing doing this? And it's like, bro, okay. And then the person that doesn't know has no bias. They're like, you know, I actually, I actually fuck with that.
Starting point is 00:23:03 And I know you probably experienced that too for sure. Yeah, I mean, dude. Like, I mean, to me, what I had like in my advantage was like the, like the name, you know, because people fuck with it here because we speak Spanish and all that. But like, it's funny that you brought that up because, what was it, last week or two weeks ago, I was in San Diego, right? And I was reping the brand out there and like, you know, wearing like, you know, the very like Miami, like, feel and look. And San Diego is a very like beach town.
Starting point is 00:23:31 And we're a beach town, but we're not a beach town. Yeah, I know what you mean. So, like, no one goes to the beach here. Like, if you do, you're there to party. Yeah, Miami's a party town. It's a party town. And San Diego's very party, but they're like, yo, but we're going to the beach. Like, we're hanging out.
Starting point is 00:23:47 They be surfing and stuff. Exactly. They're surfing. And to me, when I envision like the stay tranquilabrand, like it's not the party scene. It's more like that scene. That laid back. Exactly. Lay back.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Like good time. You know, chill vibes. And it was crazy because the people over there reacted. It's completely different than the people here. Because they are like you said, they had no bias towards me. Yeah, man. They didn't know who I was. You know, because bro, you know, from someone that's known me from fucking five years old to now, I'm a different person.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Yeah. So, but their bias is like, dude, this guy wasn't like that. So like they already have like an image. It's for sure. It changes the dynamic when someone doesn't know who you are or what you're doing. But they're like, yo, you know what? Like that's good. I don't know who you are, but like that's good.
Starting point is 00:24:32 So but you know what? It might be a Gary V thing too again. But it's like the first 10% is the hardest to get. But that first 10% is what builds the momentum for the other 90% bro. Because you need that, you need that validation for the other 90%. Because it's gonna be a 10% bro that like they're your core like they're the guys that From the beginning we're listening to you that they fucked with your shit They built the momentum to like get you going and then it's the other ones that are like from the outside in like
Starting point is 00:25:01 Oh shit like people fuck with it. Yeah I remember when I started my brand I even had like a couple like friends I mean obviously not like my best friends but you know like people you're cool way you go out with them whatever and a lot of them when I started the brand at first They were like like what like You're doing clothes. Like, thinking like it's lame or something. And I'm like, okay, like you, a lot of people don't see what you see. Like vision-wise. That's the problem.
Starting point is 00:25:26 So then once, like in the beginning, I remember they'd be like, oh, I don't know. I'm not buying that shit. And I'm like, all right, you feel, me do you. And then like after a year or two of them seeing people like, oh, a lot of people actually like this. And then it changes their perspective. And they're like, no, it's just actually dope. And then they started buying a bunch of stuff. And it's the same thing with the music.
Starting point is 00:25:44 It's the same thing with everything. Yeah, dude. And I think you. I think you nailed it when it comes to like they don't see the vision that you see. You know, like when you started this, you know, when you started the music, when you started the brand, there was a vision to it long term. You were like, yo, like this can be this. This can be this. Like this is what it represents.
Starting point is 00:26:00 This is what it stands for. You know, and it represents me as a person. And then, you know, people are like, all they see is like, oh, it's just a shirt. You know, oh, it's just like this. Oh, it's just that. And you're like, you're not, you're missing it. You're missing it. And look, like, I get it.
Starting point is 00:26:16 And that's where like the brand storytelling comes into play where like you got to tell tell the story of like why you started this. Because then people are like, you know what? Now I fucking get it. Like I get where you're trying to spread. So and I think it's dope because like you when you said like how you structured the layer of your of your album where it was nine songs and everything was interconnected on this story. And that's how it starts. But people, they start listening to the lyrics and they're like, oh damn. Like I relate to that or like for sure.
Starting point is 00:26:45 You know, oh, that message or like that lyric hit me. And then they start, what is it? Like, they start tweeting it. Yeah, putting it on their Instagram captions. And then people are like, oh, damn. Like, I, I fuck with that. And like the bro, it's like those little things. It's like one person.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Then, you know, months go by and then it's like two, three people. It's like a virus. It is. It just spreads. It just freaks. It just like a wildfire. You just got to keep feeding it and feeding it. And it goes back to what you're saying, the consistency.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Mm-hmm. Because that consistency is what keeps that momentum going. Yeah, for sure. The moment you, like, let you stop feeding the fire bro like that's it like it's gonna die out and it's gonna be hard to bring it back to life like but so so then what what out of like your songs right now like would you recommend out of the out of the album well tell tell them about the album like the name so the name is please don't forget um and what's the i guess the story behind the album a little bit man because i know
Starting point is 00:27:38 there's a story yeah it's definitely a story um if i'm gonna be real like it was just i i feel like i wrote A lot of the music when I was in like a darker place in my life. You feel like me like just work issues like losing a job. Like just, you know, seeing like my family like have their own issues. A lot of my friends going through stuff. Like it was just like a darker moment, you know, like relationship issues and just a lot of stuff that was going on that I was not happy. And I feel like the music was a good outlet to that. And yeah, like I feel like please don't forget was kind of like please don't forget this.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Like you know, you're in the, yeah, you feel like you're in the bottom. and like you're going to get out of the bottom but never forget the bottom because when you get to the top like the top is going to taste so good because you were in the bottom so that's why I came up with that title like please don't forget and like please don't forget the grind please don't forget like this and that and yeah the songs on there the first song is no feelings the second one is racks three young then skeletons. Trey young is a lot of people's favorite I think that's hard but it's not my favorite though okay I'll tell you that So Skeletons is fourth featuring my boy, J.P. out in Brooklyn. That one's dope. Then fifth is routine. Sixth is stuck in my ways.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Stuck in my ways is good. That's one of my favorite ones. I think that's my favorite, honestly. Man, I like that you say that too because... Because I was going through them and I was like, I think stuck in my ways is like the one that I resonated with the most. Yeah, man. And it's just, I feel like one thing I like in my music, I try not to... Obviously, I'm not going to copy artists that I like.
Starting point is 00:29:10 I'm not a copycat, but I do get inspired by a lot of their sounds. and a lot of my favorite artists, I feel like they make good music to drive to at night. And like when I want to hear my shit, it's that late night drive. Like, I don't want to make music. Like, maybe I'll do a little bit.
Starting point is 00:29:24 Like, Trey Young, I think you could play it at the club. You know what I mean? I don't want to be a club rapper, though. I want to be the type of music like, yo, you just left the club. You just, you're leaving with your shoddy or with a chick or you're with all your boys. And I want that music when you're driving back home.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Yeah. And I think stuck in my ways. Like, under a day of work, the first thing I'm thinking about was like, bro, what good music am I going to do. Exactly, yo. And I think Stuck in My Ways really is one of those songs for that. And it's crazy because that's the first song I wrote for the album. Like, I honestly wrote that song probably two years ago.
Starting point is 00:29:51 And I just had it like stuck like in the in the vault. And you wrote all nine of them, right? Yeah, I wrote all nine of them. So Stuck in My Ways, I wrote that one first. And that one set like the template for all the other songs. Because I was like, yo, I like this sound. I don't know how to describe it, but it's kind of like a moody. Like that's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:07 I was like, yo, this is the vibe. Like this is a sound I think I want to capture as an artist. Yeah. And then all the other. ones they don't sound exactly the same but they're kind of in that same realm type of thing and yeah stuck in my ways is one of my favorite ones after that stuck in my ways is bad health then my boy jp his interlude and then up all night and yeah a lot of people yeah it was not yeah i mean you went to the whole thing where you out of the interlude like that shit was sick it was sick that shit was dope
Starting point is 00:30:34 and you started what recording that what like a couple months ago yeah around september so this is all like not too long ago you know what i mean a lot of artists sit on a an album for a year or two working on it and i was just like man i want to get this out here already like i'm confident in like the music i think it's dope yeah and it's raw which yeah and i kind of how it was saying like i recorded and wrote a lot of the songs in that moment i don't want to drop it two years from now or a year from now when i feel like right now i feel like i'm in a way better place than i was back then yeah yeah so i feel like the music i'm writing now it has a different tone to it you know what i mean um but back then it was yeah because you're you're listening to it now from like the other side of
Starting point is 00:31:09 Exactly. And it's like, man, I could reflect on that moment. A lot of people tell me, like, yo, this song I relate to or this song I relate to. Like, this lyric hit me. This lyric hit me. It's just a lot of just relatable stuff, I would say. Like, it's funny because my mom, my mom actually is, my mom don't speak English too well. So like, she knew I was going to the studio. She didn't know I was putting out an album though. Like I would just be like, yo mom. Yeah, mom went to go to studio. Mom going to studio. Oh, okay, whatever. Yeah. And then when I dropped it, she was like, what is that? Is that can't dance? And I'm like, yeah. And she's like, oh. And then like she was like, what are you saying in your songs? And I'm like, mom, I can't really explain it. Because like, yeah, you got to listen. Yeah, you got to listen, but you're not really going to understand it. And then it was just like a funny thing. Like, my mom, I'm asking me like, what are you rapping about?
Starting point is 00:31:51 And I'm like, I can't really explain what I'm rapping about. It's just like whatever comes in my mind when I hear the beat and whatever I'm feeling. Like the first song, no feelings is kind of about like, you know, I think the lyrics go something like, oh, always thought that we would last. Now I'm, you got me thinking about the past. You feel? mean ain't no going back like it's just kind of like a you know no feelings towards a relationship that that shit's gone yeah everyone's been in a relationship like that where you reflect on it and it's like okay this was good i thought we was gonna be together but not really and now i got to move forward
Starting point is 00:32:23 and i don't got feelings towards it i feel like everyone's been something like that yeah thousand percent yeah and then like a lot of the other songs some of the songs like trey young is just a banger like just flexing yeah you're like let's hop on the beat have some fun talk some shit have some fun with it yeah and then but there's other songs like bad health which a lot of people was hitting me up. Bad health was good. Yeah, that's like the deepest song. That's the deepest song I made and it's kind of just like everybody has stuff that
Starting point is 00:32:48 you want, but it might actually be bad for you, you know what I mean? And honestly, too much of anything is bad for you. That's anything, bro. Sometimes you might, you know, have a friendship and like, yo, I really want to be friends with this person because, you know, they're my day one and I love them, but this might not be a good friendship for me or like the job might not be a good job for me. It might actually be bad for my health. Like, you know, it's funny.
Starting point is 00:33:08 Yeah, shit that you think is good. And then in all reality, you're like, it's not healthy for you. Like, you're not happy with it. You know, you're stressing about it all the time. Like, to me, dude, like your body and your mind tell you a lot. For sure, bro. And you got to listen to it. And I think, like, in that bad health song, it talks to it.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Yeah, I try to really, really encapsulate that. And I even mentioned a lyric where like, oh, like smoking blunts is bad for my health. Because I have cut down on that because, you know, as much as you, you know, everyone wants to have fun, drink, get high. But it's like, bro, at the end of the day, that stuff isn't going to be. It's not healthy. for you. It's not healthy for you. Like, bro, the way I look at it is like, is this going to provide value in my life, you know?
Starting point is 00:33:44 And it really is really not. That's basically what, what health is. Yeah. You know, like exercise. Is it going to provide value? Yes. You know, smoking sakes and smoking this and drinking every day. Is it providing value?
Starting point is 00:33:56 No. You know, with moderation. Yeah, it's good for a good time with your friends and, you know, when you want to celebrate. But it's not something you want to do every day. Like, I can't be getting drunk every day. Like, that's going to be bad for you. What's it offering me?
Starting point is 00:34:07 Nothing. And that's where that song came from. And honestly, everybody who posted my, like, posted my album or, like, hit me up about it. I always like to ask you, like, yo, what are your favorite songs? And I think bad health has been a lot of people's favorite. So I'm kind of, like, glad that it's something a lot of people could relate to. You know what I mean? It's like, I try to make something that people could feel.
Starting point is 00:34:26 And I like that a lot of people felt that one. So that was a good moment on the album. That's sick, bro. I mean, like, the fact that you won out there and you did that, bro, like, is, I told you. Like I was like you came out with nine songs and I was like god damn bro Like that's sick because I remember the last time I talked to you you were telling me you were making music I had no idea I knew you were doing the essentials brand and shit like that and you're like yo like let's do a pod but let's do it after Yeah facts with the music out so then you dropped it and I was like bro we gotta we gotta get on the pod for sure
Starting point is 00:34:55 But yeah before before we kind of close it out like what's been like the I guess the hardest thing from you like taking this Like step and like you know like no I'm not gonna do the job like like Like this is what I you know I want to do Like this is like the shit that I want to focus on like what to you has been like the hardest thing about taking that That's a good question bro The hardest thing I mean I think one thing that's always a challenge with everything is just balance You know what I mean? I'm still you know I'm not getting paid full time from making music
Starting point is 00:35:28 So I'm still working my full-time job and it's a good job I like it I have fun with it's working with one of my best friends and like you know We work we work hard But we also have a good time It works with what you're trying to do. Yeah, it's a good environment. It's a very good environment. I can see myself doing it forever if I really had to do it. So that's good.
Starting point is 00:35:43 Obviously, like, I want to reach my dream. And I think just really finding the balance of everything like, okay, you know, we're working full-time jobs. Now we got to go home. And it's like, all right. I got to say hi to my mom. I got to check on my mom. You know, if you got a girl, I got to hang out with my girl. You know, I got to make sure she's okay.
Starting point is 00:36:00 I got to show her, her love. And then, but then I got to work on my passion, too. Like, I got to go out here, write these songs, freaking. can go to the studio and then it's like but then I want to have fun too and I got to hang out with my boy so just really finding the balance I think like probably in the last week I really hit the a good balance of like all right there's time for this there's time for that there's time for this there's time for that and just figuring it all out I think you know that's the biggest challenge probably yeah yeah no and I and I I think to like add to your point with like the whole balance thing
Starting point is 00:36:29 it's like you know you know you know you have to have balance right and you you know you care about your friends and your family and you know like if you have a girl your girl and all that but it's like they got to be cool with the balance too. Damn that's the biggest you know because that's the problem like you know that you want to have balance but then your girl's giving you shit like yo we haven't hung out in three days or your boys like yo you disappear like where you're mom's like yo you're never home bro you know like and bro and and that and that shit is like to me the hardest part about the balance it's like because you know you know like when you're passionate bro and you're in a rhythm you're like you know like when you're passionate
Starting point is 00:37:03 And you're in the rhythm. It's like, boom, I did this. I did this. I did this. I'm putting in the effort. I'm putting in the work. But then everyone around you is giving you shit. So it's like, yo, if you're, you know, if someone around you is like putting in the time and they're putting in the effort, bro, like, you got to respect it.
Starting point is 00:37:18 And, bro, and then you on the other side putting in that work have to be like, if you can't respect like what I'm doing, then I can't be around you. And it's tough, bro. Those are tough decisions. Bro, that is facts, bro. That's the biggest thing. And like, luckily I have a good. great support system. So I don't feel that too much right now.
Starting point is 00:37:36 But I've been there before and I know what it's like. And it's like, man, like, having them understand the balance, that's crazy. Like, I don't even ought to put into words. I mean, that's what, that's what, like, all fucking cheesy and shit like that. But that's what, like, love is, bro. On the other side, like, you got to be like, you love that person, bro. You got to let them do what they got to do. Sometimes you might have the love from a distance for real.
Starting point is 00:37:59 And there's hard love too. Yeah, exactly. You got a love from a distance or you got to tell them the truth and be like, Like this just isn't it And you know That person can take it however they want to take it bro But it comes as long as it's coming from that place bro With like yo I want whatever is best for you bro
Starting point is 00:38:12 Like this is what you want to do Like that's with your boys That's with your girl That's with your bro even your parents Like sometimes your parents don't want to see that shit Bro and like they're the ones that brought you up Like obviously there's a level of respect Towards them too because our lives
Starting point is 00:38:25 Are what they are because of them You know so it's like That part of like you're not seeing what I'm seeing And that's that's that to me is like that hardest thing where there has to be like a level of understanding too from the people around you yeah and like nobody uh one thing is funny always like i always try to preach this to a lot of like my own friends because i know what it's like for myself like nobody really knows what it's like to be in your shoes only you do yep and a lot of people don't even want to make the effort
Starting point is 00:38:52 to think what it's like to be in your shoes so me i always try to be conscious of you know if someone's on this you know we see somebody out and someone might crack a joke about somebody or you know how it is people out here always you know or they might not understand why somebody's doing this like oh why did my dad say this why why did my why did my friend why is my friend acting like this and it's kind of like look man a lot of times it's not like when somebody feels away about you it's on them you can't control it and it's kind of like you just got to try to understand where they're coming from yeah like i got to understand that you know my dad for example he's a older dude from d r you know I mean he came here when he was like 40 yeah like culturally were very different you know he doesn't
Starting point is 00:39:35 understand like oh why do you have a beard why don't you shave your beard like why are your shoes like shoes like shoes should be black and white just little things like that and it's like I can't be mad at him because that's what he knows and I try to understand and I'm like okay like I understand that's why he's coming from the day he looks at a different way exactly he's like look dad like now it's a little different I know what you're saying but this is how we express ourselves today and he's like okay and like we kind of met that middle ground and that's a small example but It's like that with almost everything, man. Yeah, bro, it's like my, my grandma with tattoos.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Tattoos are the biggest one. They're the biggest ones. You know, my grandma was cool with the first one, then I got the second one. And then she was like, it's a little big, or do you sure? Like, I like it.
Starting point is 00:40:15 I like it. It's very nice, you know? And that, that's her becoming the, like, the understanding. Yeah. She's like,
Starting point is 00:40:20 I don't really, like, fuck with the decision, but like, I love you anyway. And you're going to do you. And I, and you're going to do you anyways. And that's not going to change how I look at you, you know?
Starting point is 00:40:29 Oh, So it's like, and that to me is the epitome of like what you need around you, bro. Like you're going to make decisions, bro. That's your decision, bro. But it's a good decision, a bad decision, you know? Yeah, it's your life. Yeah, no one else is going to be able to dictate that, bro. Man, that's facts.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Right. All right, bro. Well, I'm good on my end. You want to leave anything for the people? I know you got to leave the IG handle. Yeah, for sure. First, I want to thank my boy Andre for having me out here. Appreciate you, bro.
Starting point is 00:40:58 I've been wanting to do the podcast. I was like, let me do it. I got more to talk about it. And I suck too, bro. I'm just like, bro, I got to get out there. And I fucking got to put it out. But I'm glad we got to do it. As for me, my IG is OG underscore vibes.
Starting point is 00:41:11 You can follow me there. On Spotify and Apple Music is OG 97, born in 97. OG, my initials. Fair. So that's the same. That's dope. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I was going to say, you got to tell you why your OG vibes. A lot of people don't know. OG is Oscar Gomez. OG is my initial. Some people will be like, why are you calling for OG? Like, you think you're a gangster? Like, no, no, no, no. Like, that's actually my initials.
Starting point is 00:41:36 That's literally my name. That's what my boys call me OG. So, yeah. And yeah, just a lot of content coming out, a lot of more stuff, a lot more music. And, you know, hopefully in a year from now, we'll do another podcast. We'll look back at this one. And we'll be like, oh, look how much we leveled up. Yeah, we both stepped it up.
