Stay Tranquilo - Life is is a Highway and You're Going To Crash, Stay Tranquil'o
Episode Date: April 1, 2019Another great episode in the books. After taking some time away from guest we were able to put together one hell of a story that will make you laugh and appreciate life a little bit more (exactly ou...r goal). In this episode, we are joined by Miami enthusiast and Professional Food Lover AJ Oliva. AJ leaves us with a personal story of his you simply have to hear. In life and the journey we decide to take there are going to be plenty of "accidents" along the way. We explain some of these accidents in life and talk about handling these situations that make life a little less stressful and a lot more enjoyable. We encourage you to jump on the highway and take off in the destination of your dreams, along the way what ever happens, happens and that is just how life is. We have 2 choices, turn around when the highway gets too difficult to drive or change the tires, touch up the car and just keep on going. Life is simply how you decide to look at it, and our goal is to help you look at life a little more "Tranquil'o." I mean look this "accident" is now a story to tell that we can all laugh about, I mean c'mon does life get better than that??? Thanks for tuning in. What is good, everybody?
You're listening to another episode of the State Tranquilo podcast,
where we're going to help you stress a little bit less and enjoy a whole lot more.
Today we got a fun one and interesting one.
And it's a story from one of my boys right here, AJ,
that basically clicked in my head and I had to share it
because I thought it was a good lesson for people to hear.
And I thought it was funny as shit.
So this is my boy, AJ.
It's interesting, but we'll see.
We'll see how it goes.
All right.
So, yeah, tell us a little bit about you, what you do.
what you like to do, kind of, you know, how we know each other, all that fun stuff.
All right, man.
First of all, been a pleasure knowing you, bro, known him since about first year of high school.
Born and raised, Miami, obviously, the way I speak, you probably know I'm from Miami.
Yeah, 305.
Everybody's got that way to talk.
Yeah, man.
So, yeah, man.
I mean, I just all about the Miami lifestyle, you know, always trying to find a way to hit the beach, hit the wall.
Waters, being by the waters is where we need to be.
Yes.
You know, all about me, you know, just easy going and just living that tranquil lifestyle pretty much, bro.
I feel like that's what I'm all about.
Honestly, from the jump.
You're probably one of the more of an epitome of what Tranquilo should be.
It's all about, you know, taking things with a grain of salt and, you know, making the best out of every situation.
and just finding the positive in every situation.
That's it.
That's all you got?
Well, I mean.
No, no.
Hey, no, it's your intro.
So if you feel like you got anything to say, I mean, yeah, you know, you're doing realty now, which is good stuff.
Right, right, right.
You know, you, you know, tell us a little bit.
Tell us a little bit of that transfer that you had that you were working at Toyota for a little bit.
And then, you know, you kind of said, I'm going to start doing this and take that leap of faith in your life.
Okay.
Well, yeah.
So there's a little bit about that.
Well, basically, I took a very untraditional route, you know, after high school, did some college, kind of realized college is not my thing.
And that's okay, you know, because if you're listening out there and you're confused and you don't know what you're doing, bro, everybody's there, man.
Especially here in Miami.
I mean, don't believe all the hype.
Like, it's okay not to know what's going on.
Yeah, 100%.
So for the last.
for years I had a pretty good job over at Toyota and you know met a lot of great people
it's not only Toyota it's the one commercial that we always see on TV of the West Kendall Toyota
oh yeah yeah no no and honestly people refer to me more that a Toyota guy than I mean I should
I should have had my Instagram handle as the Tranquilo guy I mean as the Toyota guy
like how you have the Tranquido guy yeah so so yeah man did that for three
years and like I said I worked with a lot of great people. It's a different environment. You know,
you work with people who have a lot more responsibilities than us, you know, and not in our demographic.
Yeah, you were definitely probably one of the younger ones there too. Yeah, I was the youngest. I had to
put myself in an environment where it was not comfortable from the jump. I had no experience
and I had to learn quick or, you know, it's basically a sink or swim environment. Right. So, you know,
that situation there helped me grow a lot, a lot of fast maturing. And I mean, I guess that's
the main reason why I'm doing what I'm doing today, because it helped me gain skills very
quickly that I wouldn't have gained doing something else. Yeah, 100%. So at the end of this
year, at the end of 2018, I decided to take a leap of faith and I want to start a new career in
real estate. Yes, real estate could be a very saturated environment, but I feel like I'm going to
deliver my own personal service to the industry.
And that's the most important part for me.
Yeah.
Because if you don't believe in what you're doing,
yeah, no, you're screwed.
It's not going to work.
You're screwed.
You have to know that you can offer something special to whoever you're taking care of.
Yeah.
No, and even if it's, like, I know we talk about it all the time,
but even if it's not a long-term thing, you know, which it probably will be because
I think that's something that you can utilize for the rest of your life.
but it's just a chapter right now in your life where you're like, you know what,
this seems like the right decision.
I'm going to do it.
And what comes from it comes from it.
You know, that's where the problems come from are when we decide to say, hey, I don't
know what the hell I'm going to do and then I'm not going to take any action and then you're
stuck to the ground like you have cement blocks on your feet.
You got what I'm saying, which no one knows what the hell they want to do.
No one knows.
And that's 100% okay.
And that's exactly what you said.
But you said, you know what?
This is better than the situation that I was in currently, even though I'm making money.
but it didn't feel right
and you trusted your gun and you said
fuck it I'm out
exactly
not only did I say
fucking I'm out
I just
I told myself that
I'm better than the situation
that I was in
which is big
that's big
and I knew that I can do better
for myself
and I knew I can do better
for my future
and that's all it takes
and I decided to
step one
take the step
because I
I mean
we live in a world
now where we're very exposed
to everybody
situation.
Yeah.
To be honest,
because social media
is very exposing.
Everybody has their
situation out there.
And I feel like
we can use that
to our benefit.
Exactly.
Because we can actually
see more stories
than maybe our
parents would have seen
back in a day.
Our parents were very
careful with their moves
because they were
gaining their own experience,
but they didn't really
get a lot of exposure
to the experiences
that other people
were having in their lives
out there.
Right.
You know,
the people
that were entrepreneurs like yourself or somebody like me who wanted to take a leap of faith,
those people really were not known. Now we live in an area where people are going to know what you're
doing. Yeah, people are going to know what you're doing, but you get to connect with other people
that are doing the same thing. True, true, true, true. I hear a lot now when I'm looking into
social media, when I'm looking into Instagram and Facebook and videos that are
are out there about entrepreneurs, about how everybody says they're an entrepreneur, and some people
bash that.
Yeah, because...
I say, screw that.
Exactly.
Because I say it's a great thing.
You know what?
There's always going to be haters.
Always.
And you can never worry about what other people are going to think about you.
If you want to put it out there and say, this is who I am, just make sure you back it up.
At least.
Exactly.
Stay consistent with your craft.
Yeah, back it up.
You're not going to be the best.
And it's going to take time.
It's going to take time.
You have to know that time is not always on our side.
The people that we're putting on a pedestal, right, whoever it is,
whether it's a guy like Drake, a guy like the Kardashians, you know,
which are like the famous names.
And then you got other guys that are more influential people, like a lady like Oprah.
Of course.
You know, those type of people, whoever it is that you idolize, it doesn't really matter.
If you want to like the Kardashians, that's cool.
If you like Oprah, that's cool.
Whoever you like is whoever you like.
And if you want to be like them, by all means.
But you got to realize that those people.
team bro yeah exactly do what you got to do you got to do but you got to realize too that those people
started from you know technically nothing the same that however they got there is however they got there
you know you can't be one to judge however they got there is how they got there but everybody's
story's different and that's the beauty of it you know your story's going to be completely different
than mine you know we may be both millionaires in the future but our stories of how we got there
are completely different so don't be you know sitting there comparing yourself
of hey that guy's got a million dollars that guys got it all figured out but his story of getting
there is going to be completely different than yours of course and that's something that we always got
to be able to realize we all have our own route we all have our own route you know a lot of people
want to like you're saying right now like don't compare yourself i mean it's very easy to compare it is
you get stuck in it's hard you just got to become aware but yeah you just you know just have some
faith yeah and it's all about having some faith in yourself yeah because nobody's going to be
able to tell you what you're capable of.
It comes from you.
Only you are going to be able to tell yourself what you're capable of.
Yeah, it's a thousand percent true.
You believe in what you're doing.
You know, you believe in Tranquilo.
Exactly.
And you started this with a purpose.
And I've had my different ventures, you know.
I did a fitness thing for a little bit too.
I did another name of a similar concept to this.
But, you know, when it finally stuck of exactly what I wanted to do, you know, I got a
clear vision.
and finally after time,
I got a clear vision of,
okay, this is what I want to do.
And to this day,
I still don't really know
what I exactly want to do with it,
but every day it's a little bit more clear
and a little bit more clear.
Persistence is key, man.
And it's going to be an up and down battle,
and that's exactly what we're going to get into.
It's like, you know, life is a highway, right?
And you're going to drive on it.
And along that highway, you know,
you know where you're going.
You're on that trip.
You're driving there.
There's a beautiful sunset in the distance,
but you're probably going to crash a couple times
on the way there.
So, you know, it's going to happen.
You might have a turn of events.
Exactly.
But get back in the car.
Don't go away.
Keep going.
And you know, and you may be a little beat up on the way there, bro, but that destination
at the end is there.
So, you know, that's what that's about is we all have our story.
We all have our personal story.
And along that story that we're going to have, you're going to hit a couple bumps.
You know, you're going to get a little bit of hard times.
And it's going to get stressful and it's going to get uncomfortable.
And that's fine.
That's just part of the growing process.
How we decide to view that along the way is how.
is how, you know, that journey is going to be.
It's either going to be super unbearable or super enjoyable, you know?
And that's exactly where the stay tranquil thing comes in, bro,
where we're going to get in these accidents in life and we just got to stay
tranquil.
So, and this, this is exactly why I brought AJ on is because AJ has a great story of a real
life crash.
But, you know, there's a lot of symbolism behind it.
And that's what this podcast is about, using real life situations.
Of course.
And because everything's and life has a story that has a meaning behind it.
So tell us about your personal crush.
I guess you weren't really the one responsible for it.
But at the end of the day, I was the one responsible for it.
Technically.
Yeah.
It was my car.
So tell us what happened in that day.
All right, guys.
So if you know a little bit about me, I'm just very generous, very easy going.
And a lot of times I put other people before me.
Yeah.
Which is a very good way to be, I believe.
I'm happy with the way I do things, you know.
So, long story short,
um,
had a friend that I was teaching how to drive, right?
And, uh,
basically was working with this person for months or weeks on teaching them how to drive.
And,
well,
we had a day where we spent all day driving.
We got back to this person's house, right?
and this person's mom kind of got frustrated that we didn't come back with what we were told to bring back.
This was a couple years ago.
You know, we're teens.
Yeah, you're learning how to drive.
Yeah, we're learning, you know.
Five, six, no more than not.
You know, we're worried about other things than bringing back what mom told you to bring back at 10 o'clock.
At night, yeah.
So you know what?
This person's mom got freaked out.
Say, go get this.
I said, hey, you know what?
We're going to take care of it.
Because we live tranquilo and we don't stress.
Exactly.
We don't need to wake up with that stress of, wow, my mom is really bashed on me because I didn't grab the bread.
I'm just going to let this one pass.
So, hey, you know what?
We're going to go take care of it.
So we take a little trip back to the store.
We head back.
And so this person is driving.
They're heading back.
They're on the avenue.
And they have to make a difficult turn to get into their driveway.
It's a U-turn.
Mind you, this is my car.
I'm teaching this person how to drive.
They got to make this U-turn to come in.
So they go to start taking the turn.
I'm very confident this person already,
so my alertness is kind of down, you know?
And they go to start making this turn,
and I swear to you, there's a car coming like 60 miles an hour down this avenue.
Oh, my God.
And the driveway is on the opposite side,
right on the opposite side of this avenue to make this U-turn.
Right.
So you got to, you're coming this way, the car's coming from the opposite direction, but you got to turn basically.
Yes.
So I went zero to 100 and I was like, turn, go, go, go, because you're going to get hit.
This person starts turning, freaking out, hitting the gas.
This is a small two-door sports car.
Good pickup.
This car picks up.
Oh, my God.
Man, we start making this turn.
The car, the, her mom's car is right there in front of us as we're making this usually.
turn. I'm screaming. I hit the steering wheel. So to make sure we don't hit the other car,
everything's going crazy. And she hasn't hit the brakes. Oh my God. So I'm screaming,
stop, stop, stop. And the car goes into the house. Into the house. Oh my God. Bro, I honestly
didn't say a word. Bro, I had to climb out of my car. No, what are you doing that moment? Think about it.
car was so banged up.
You're speechless.
I couldn't even open the door.
Can't get mad at them.
Dude, I couldn't say a word.
I couldn't say a word because any word that was going to come out of my mouth was not a good word.
That's going to be the right word.
Yeah.
That's where you just stay.
I'm like, I'm just going to keep my mouth shut here.
Bro, it was bad.
It was a bad event.
And you know what?
Like, it was a big learning experience.
And what happened after that is just, it's all she wrote.
You know what I'm saying?
But I did not, I did not leave it to,
to them to put the blame on them i did not
uh yeah no there's nothing you could do i mean feel like shit about it exactly it's a stressful
situation already as it is a shitty situation and i mean the only thing you could do in that
moment is just like look it's done what happened is happen is yeah it's but you know it's hard
it's easier said than done to think that way because you're just like shit i just crashed into
a house like into a house destroyed somebody else's car
emphasize this on the podcast, like into a house.
Into a damn house.
Like that's a shit that you see on the news.
And then to top it off, it's not even her car.
It's your car.
Yep.
You know what I'm saying?
So for that to happen, it's just like, it sucks.
Bro.
It sucks.
Honestly, one of the worst moments of my life.
But you know what?
I found a way to get through it.
You know, I took care of everything.
You know, when it comes to the actual insurance and all that stuff.
Right.
I'm still paying for that now.
Yeah, true.
That's super true.
You know what?
You have to realize that in life, sometimes you have to take these hits.
And you got to learn to take these hits so that you can be better in the next situation.
Yeah.
You know?
You got to realize, I mean, you know, when things happen, what's done is done.
Exactly.
And when things already happen, it's now what's the next step into making this situation a little bit better.
Yeah.
Because if you just dwell on what happened, we're talking about exactly.
You get those cement blocks again on your feet.
And then you can't go anywhere, you know?
And then it's like you're on the highway.
You think the world is against you.
You're on the highway.
And then what do you want to do?
You just want to turn back around.
Of course.
You're like, fuck this.
I don't want to do this anymore.
You have to keep going.
You got to keep going.
You got to keep going.
You know what?
Somebody tells you you can't do something or something makes you feel like you're
inadequate or something.
The most important part is just to keep taking those steps.
Stay in your lane.
Stay in your lane.
Believe in what you believe in.
You know, and stay true to yourself.
Yeah, you know exactly what happened, and now how can I get out of this situation for the better?
Yeah.
And that's it?
Yeah, that was.
And is the house repaired at this point?
Oh, yeah.
The house was a sturdy, sturdy house.
You know, we live in a beautiful Miami where the construction here is amazing, you know.
So luckily we hit the corner.
It wasn't really straight in.
Yeah.
So we didn't make a new living area in her house, you know what I'm saying?
We didn't hope, you know, we weren't making new construction.
No redesigning or remodeling.
Yeah, luckily.
Luckily, it didn't have to go to that.
It was just my car that got destroyed.
No, no, what was it?
You told me that like two days later, you had to go to school at date and, and you have this, what was it, like, something holding the door?
Bro.
My bumper and my headlight and my hood.
My hood was blocking my vision on my right side of my car because it was so high up.
Uh-huh.
My fender didn't allow my door to open.
Jesus Christ.
And I'm holding up the bumper and the headlight and the grill all together with tie straps and, like, freaking yo-yo yarn.
Like, dude.
That's brutal.
I was going to class and leaving class every day with that shit on your car.
Dude, there was hot chicks laughing at me, bro.
Like, that's the worst thing ever.
Yeah, this is my whip.
You can't get in through the passenger side.
As a man, like, when you have these, when you see somebody looking at your car and just get that little smirk or that little laugh, you're just like, you just start growling, you know?
Oh, man.
Well, you know, like I was going fast.
All right.
So there you have it.
That's, you know, that's the story that we wanted to bring in today.
Yeah, hopefully it enlightens you a little bit.
Yeah, hopefully that you realize that.
that whatever you're going through,
at least you didn't crash into a damn house
and destroy someone's car.
Everybody was okay. Everybody was safe.
Exactly. And that's a good point.
Looking at the positives out of every situation.
I mean, there's not really much of a positive in that situation.
But, you know, if you want to make
the situation a little bit better and you want to
feel a little bit better, feel a little bit better about it,
I mean, the least you can do is like, all right, what can I get out of
this? You know, that's a smarter way
of looking at it. Of course, easier said than done,
but you know that's the mindset that you want to have that's a
a tranquil mindset stay tranquil that's a stay
tranquil mindset right there so there you guys have it you got anything that you
want to finish off with anything you want to add just one last
thing you know take take time with what you want to do with your life
and you know believe in yourself but don't be afraid to reach out to your support
team always have us always we're not going to do this by ourselves guys
yeah you're not going to do you're not going to do this life by yourself you need a team
You need a support group.
You know, always reach out to your friends and family.
Andre has always been a close friend of mine.
Yeah.
Whenever I need him, he's there.
Same thing.
You got to have people like that around you.
Go get a support group, guys.
That's how you're going to live this life with a little bit less stress.
Stress, yeah.
And that's what this is all about.
You know, it's going to happen.
But, you know, look around you, look at your surroundings and like, all right, what can I make this situation a little bit less stressful?
Exactly.
That's how you look at it.
Well, you know what?
Because we.
We can always look at all the negatives, but when you start looking at the positives, they really outweigh the negatives.
Exactly.
And the negatives create the cement blocks.
The positives create the tire spinning.
Heck yeah.
There you go, bro.
I love it.
All right, guys.
