What is good, everybody? You're listening to another episode of the State Tranquilo podcast, where we're going to help you stress a little bit less and enjoy a whole lot more. I'm here with my boy, J.C. Campo, a good friend of mine from Columbus High School, which for a lot of you that know, Columbus is the place to be, but we're not going to get into that too much if we want to. We can, but we're not going to be too biased on the podcast. So, yo, J.C., say what's up? What's up, guys?

J.C. here. Andre, thanks for having me, man. I feel like it's been a while since we've been a while since we've been. We wanted to do this, huh? It's been a good, like, what, like month at least? Where we were, like, serious about talking about it. I know you hit me up saying, like, oh, we got to do a podcast, and then it just kind of died. And then it kind of came back to life. But before we get into things, let's tell people about you a little bit.

Tell us, like, you know, about yourself, what you're currently doing. And whatever you feel like you want the world to know about you. Damn, open for all. No, right now I'm working at a software company Citrix. I'm doing sales there. Quickly realize, I've been there for two weeks, I mean two weeks, two years, quickly realized that like corporate life, just not for you. No, thanks.

I feel that. And I've been, like, I've been being mentored lately, reading a lot of books, listening to a lot of streams and like how I used to think that, you know, go to school, get a good grade, get good grades, get a good education, get a good job. That's what you needed to do. And that's what's ingrained in our brains. It is. Yeah. I mean, me personally, I kind of took, I want to say the corporate route, but I always, one thing I knew from like working, you know, jobs like in high school and college and all that is like one thing I always struggled with was like respecting authority. Like I just, you know, not that I didn't have that respect towards

them but I wanted respect for myself and I just like I can't get along with that so my thing was when I got out of college same thing I was like I need to get a job because I want to make money and like that was the only focus I had but I always knew in the back of my head that I wanted to do something a little bit more than just get a job and then just go from there because I got a job out of college and I didn't like it you know what I'm saying so and I know you're kind of like in that same boat right now so like tell us a little bit about that how that's been yeah Yeah, I mean, it's just I don't really like having to ask someone to spend time with my own family. You know what I mean?

Something my mentor told me actually was something was wild. It was he wanted to spend time with his wife on his own birthday. He's like, hey, babe, can you take this day off? Yeah. And she had to ask her boss, and her boss actually said no. And he's like, so wait a second. I have to ask to spend some time with my wife and for her to take a day off. but when you want to take her places to go work, let's say you've got to travel to New York,

Cali, wherever it is. He doesn't ask. He can just do it. And I was like, damn, man, like, that is true, you know? My dad, just growing up in the corporate world, always, he was always traveling and all that. And luckily, I mean, he was still an amazing dad and he'd be able to make it to a lot of things. But there was a lot of things that he had to sacrifice. And they wouldn't ask us.

They wouldn't call us, hey, can, you know, is it all right if Fernando leaves for the week? No, no. It's, hey, I got to leave on a Sunday. back next Sunday. Yeah. And that's tough, dude. And that's something that I think it's rough. Yeah.

I mean, to me, to me the biggest thing is, and we don't have to like speed into this a little bit. We'll get into it. But I mean, to me, the biggest thing was like, I wanted freedom in my life, you know. And there was a point where I wanted to be a firefighter. Oh, wow. You know, only on the fact because everyone preached about how great their schedule it was. Because the hours were.

Because the hours, you know, it was like one day on, it was 24 on, 48 off. You know, but guess what? You could work Christmas Day, Noce Juana, like Thanksgiving. They don't have a day off, you know, just based on how your rotation is. And especially in the beginning phases of your career, like you're the rook, you know? So they're probably going to give you a shit ton of those shifts, dude. And I'm really big in like, it's not like now. Like now is when I want to enjoy.

And hopefully 20 years or now I can still be enjoying. You know what I'm saying? Like, no one says that like you got to, I mean, you got to grind because I fucking grind every day, but, you know, with that grind comes like an enjoyment and you don't have to get lost in that, you know what I'm saying? So when I was trying to be a firefighter, I was just like, dude, I don't want to be a firefighter. Like, I got to jump in fires. That doesn't interest me. Like, that doesn't interest me. I'm probably going to mention noche, noche, noche, why not, you know what I'm saying? He doesn't live in my chen with a kajina and beers. Like, that's, that's what I

want. And obviously in life, you're going to have to make sacrifices and all that stuff. But it's like, you got to choose your poison and say, like, what am I willing to sacrifice? And it's to me, it's just like, I'm willing to sacrifice, like, my time for something that I want to do, you know? And right now, you know, like, I've had to get a job, not a job job. And I still don't really have a job. But I found a way to make money that is going to make me money in a way where I can still have fun, still be able to save money and then funds something that I'm passionate about. And then hopefully, you know, put my money into different, different things and all that. But I refuse to live my life on someone else's terms.

Refuse. And I think we were talking about this yesterday. I told you, I was like, what's someone's biggest asset and it's time? And what do you trade? I mean, you're trading your biggest asset to someone else to help create their asset. Yeah. And that's exactly what it is. And have you said it?

I was like, bro, that's gold. Yeah, that was gold. And it's true. And I refer a lot to. my mentor because it's just like he's opened my eyes and I was like holy crap and he calls a job the journey of the bewildered and I was like dude this guy has the best acronyms it's insane and the best say man I was like that's so true and the people that say you know yeah I need a job just because I need to be secure bro you're the first to leave if something happens exactly you know and you're the one

that's probably the most unhappy yeah you know what I'm saying so to me like I i I realize that if I'm going to do life, you know, I'm probably going to have to figure some shit out and it's going to take some time and I don't have anything figured out. But one thing I did figure out was quickly that I want to do it on my time. You know, not someone else's time. And if I'm going to make someone else rich, fuck, I could do exactly that for myself. Obviously, I don't have a scale and I don't have a boss that's paying me on top for doing that job. But the reward for putting in that work is a lot more. Like what I was doing when I first graduated college was like legit like promoting a company. Yeah. Like that's what I did. You remember. So I was like, bro, I could literally do this for my own brand.

Obviously like I won't get my recognition like my, you know, the same return from it because there's already a name attached to a big company. But fuck, I believed in myself and in my own brand enough to say, hey, bro, if I put this out there to the world, people are going to fucking appreciate it. And they didn't. And they didn't. And obviously it's nowhere needed. or where I wanted to be, but fuck, I'm happy. You know what I'm saying? I mean, dude, that's all that matters. You know how many people, like, even me, like, I'm just sitting there at work sometimes. I'm like, damn, bro.

Like, I can't wait for Friday. Bro, if you live for Friday, that means that you want five days to go by. Fuck, bro. You want five days to go by to then Saturday. And there's seven days in the week. Yeah. So it's like 80% of your week is devoted to fuck. Yeah.

And the other 20% is to fuck. Yeah. But like, fuck, I got to go back on Monday. Yeah. So you didn't ever be fucking, it's an endless cycle. It's unreal. And the fact that like, yeah, you can have good day, Saturday and Sunday. But Sunday I'm already thinking about it.

Four o'clock comes up on Sunday. Yeah. You're already thinking about it. And it's ruined. That's not something that I want. And that's something that Lizzie and I are, you know, we were fortunate enough and we qualified for something. And now we're like going through this whole process where, dude, I'll be retired in two to five years.

Tell you that, facts. Like, I'll be done in two to five years. And when I say retired, I don't mean like, not mean anything. I don't mean a bigito, you know what I mean? I'm going to be retired doing, being retired from corporate life, you know, and that's what I want, bro. Like, I don't want to report to someone.

It's not, look, everyone has their place. Like, if the corporate world makes you happy, it makes you hungry. That's not what I'm trying to bash either. And I, because the only reason I've said that is because I've made that same argument before. Bro, you know, like, I make money. Like, bro, good for you. Like, this is an opinion and this has nothing to do with, like, reprimending anybody.

or saying what you're doing is wrong. But the question you got to ask yourself is like, is this what you want to do? You know, and maybe you've got to work the corporate world a little bit to, you know, make some money and build some funds and hopefully you have a plan for the rest of your life. But understand that there's more to it than just like collecting the bills to pay the bills. That's the way I look at it.

It's like what you were saying. I want to live life on my terms. Like I want my time. If I want to go on a vacation tomorrow and I can, fuck, I'm going to go on a vacation. vacation tomorrow. You know what I'm saying? And I'll probably be working on vacation, but I have the luxury to be able to do that. You know what I'm saying? So that's just my input on that. But transitioning back to like a little bit about about you and kind of like, you know, like your story of leaving the corporate world. Like for you, what was like that kind of like

moment in your life where you were just like, dude, like I just can't do this anymore? probably has to do one with the fact that I travel about an hour, hour and a half to go to work and sit there and I didn't really like my job. Like a lot, a lot changed in January with my job. So that's something that played a big factor in it. I do like the people that I work with. Right. You know, I like the environment.

It's kind of cool. And we're all very young. So, like, we're all pretty much graduate, like college graduates, which is pretty cool. We're all around the same age. So it's fun because you can. mess around and everyone gets each other's on the same kind of thing. All that stuff. But really, I was like, man, first of all, my dad retired left.

Damn, a year, almost two years ago. Oh, wow. And which, you know, time's flying by. So almost two years ago, my dad retired. And I've always, you know, loved my dad and love the way that he works and all that. And obviously, he's at a completely different level than I am, both financially. and he put the time in and mentally and all that stuff. But I saw like how much,

you know, how much fun he was having, how much less stress he had, right? And I come home some days and I'm like, I'm like, man, like I just, I hate everyone.

I hate the world, whatever. And it's because I'm sitting in two hours of traffic. Like it's easy to hate everyone, you know? Five days a week. Yeah, exactly.

So I was like, man. And I just, like, I am a very family oriented person. So anything that like takes me away from my family, it sucks. It sucks.

It sucks. Whether it's Lizzie, whether it's my brother, even if he runs me up a wall sometimes. It doesn't matter. I guess what brothers are four. Exactly. But, you know, just being able to spend time with my family on my own terms and not having

to ask for days off if family comes in like around Thanksgiving, the fact that I have to ask for time off. That sucks. And you got to be like the first one because not everyone can take it off and all that. No, dude, it's funny you say that because a big part of why even if, you know, even if I wanted to do, let's say, the corporate world, right? Because like at least I can get a salary. You know, I get pay off some of my student loan debt.

little bit quicker, you know, all that stuff, right? There's like, there's an incentive for me to want to make more money just because of my situation. But there's the other flip side of it and it's literally my family, you know? My parents got divorced like five years ago and that forced me to step up and become as the older brother to become the man of my house, right? And because of that, I have a little brother that's 10 years old and someone needs to pick them up from school. Someone needs to take them to is after school sports. Yeah. You know what I'm saying?

Someone needs to be there because why? My mom's working. My mom has to, you know, support three kids. Yeah. And there's not really anyone else there. So it's like, if I don't do it, right, then who's going to do it? And now my brother's sack, like, you know, is not able to live a life that he would want to live and be with his friends that are all playing sports and they're going to

this and they're going to that. And I said, you know what? I'm going to bite the bullet. I'll figure it out. Yep. And I'm going to allow myself to be more accessible so I could. be there for my brother. I could be there for my grandma, like, who's by herself at the house majority of the day that I got to take to Walgreens. You know what I'm saying? But it's,

you know, it's crazy because it's like, what do you put as your priority? And some of, sometimes our priorities, and I get it. We're young and we're hungry and all that. And the majority of our listeners are young. But, you know, some people's priorities are just so egotistical and like, so selfish that we're like, bro, you don't even look at your fucking mom and say like yo thank you for like allowing me to be able to do this you know because i i mean and this is now sympathy this is nothing yeah but it's fucking reality and i had to say you know what dude like if i want my brother to have the life that i did because i was fucking spoiled growing up dude spoiled i mean you know parents were at every game you know whatever i had you know multiple

houses like bow you name it and my brother obviously is not able to live that life because it's just life but I'm like I have to be able to give him whatever I can give him yeah and if it wasn't for that dude he would be doing nothing so it's like you got to figure out what your priorities are in life and fuck if family's not one yeah hopefully something bad happened with your family because family should be one of your priorities 100% family should be one of the priorities and it's something that that you went back to um you know you said you said something about being selfish and yeah honestly like the way that you work and the way that you're, you know, self-employed, whatever it is. Right?

Like, that's, that's on you and you didn't follow a certain structured path. I also trusted that life was going to work in my favor. Exactly. And there's people that are like, man, you know, they're doubting you, they're doing whatever. But, bro, you're, like, you emulate the word, like, selfless because you, you take selfish and people think of themselves a lot. Think of yourself less. Right. Right.

Right. And you do that 100% because I see you with your brother. I see you with your family. I see you with your grandmother, your friends, whatever it is, just spreading the word. Like, you live what you actually spread, which is incredible because there's a lot of people out there that just to get some little bit of fame on Instagram or whatever. And I get it. I get it.

They do whatever they want or whatever, like, they're fake. And it's true. Like, shake them up a little bit and see what comes out. Yeah. And you nailed it. Like, that word, I mean, you think my, like, and being in Miami, you think we see a little bit more fake than other people? we see a lot more fake than other people bro we buy things for

because I buy things that are too expensive I feel like I got to be pressured into just living in Miami I feel like I have to like you gotta live a certain lifestyle well but it's true you buy you buy expensive things that you can't afford to show off the people don't even care and you don't

even care about you know like that's unreal and the fact that we do that and you see that all around town you see bro you pass by these houses you see like a Mercedes I've seen Lamborghinis outside of a house that's like, you know, falling apart. I'm like, bro, this guy definitely, like, who knows what he's doing? Who knows?

But, and boats, boats in Miami, the fact that you have a boat, everyone wants to get on your boat. Everyone wants to get on. So you buy a boat and you're like, ah, thing all day. And, bro, you're the life of the party. But it's crazy. You're putting on an image for, and that's not even you because at the end of the day, maybe he can't afford the boat. Maybe he can't afford the boat. Maybe that's not the type of person they are.

In my opinion, like seeing what I've seen here in Miami, like, I think a lot of people just like find loopholes and just find ways to get around. And they literally just like, you know, create that. But like, they can't really afford that. Like, dude, I've played with numbers before and be like, all right, you know, like if you want a boat. Yeah. You want a house. You want it? Oh, yeah.

That shit doesn't have. Yeah. And you're making $30,000. No, there's no way. Exactly. It's no way. Exactly. But don't get me wrong.

I love Miami. I probably never move. away from here. I will, bro, there's so many people. I always, I used to hate Miami,

whatever. And I'm like, bro, I love Miami. I embrace all the BS that we live in. I love that. I mean,

starting this, like made me embrace Miami like a lot more. Just because, like, it fits, you know, my demographic

and my concept of life. But, dude, there was a point, like, probably, like, two years,

like, into college. Roar, I was like, anti- Miami. Like, I need to get the hell out of here,

like, anywhere, up Miami, like looking at apartments, looking at other colleges to go to. I mean, I even moved to FSU for a little bit just because I want to get a Miami that bad. But, you know, as I, as I learned and I matured a little bit, I'm like, dude, everybody, everybody, no matter where you go, wants to be here. You go to anywhere. You go to New York. You go to this place. You go to that place. They're like, you're from Miami. They're like, dude, how amazing is it there? Well, bro, I used to go to school in D.C. My first year, my first year of college.

was at George Washington University and people are like, oh, where are you from? Like Miami and they're like Ohio. I'm like, no, Florida. I'm like, what are you doing here? Yeah. And they're like, what are you crazy? Can't you just go to UM? Like you live in paradise.

And mind you were like in 20 degree weather that day. I was like, yeah. That's when you're really, yeah, that's when you're really constant. I was like, damn, you're right. Yeah, dude, like, don't get me wrong. It gets hot here. The traffic is not the best. It is hot.

And it's hard as shit right now. But it gets hot. The traffic sucks. The people could be pretty terrible sometimes. But like, it's like, dude, just. Turn off the fucking noise and just enjoy what Miami offers, bro. 75, like all year long until summer comes around and gets to like 90. Yeah.

Dude, you live in the place where it's allowed to be hot because you've got a body of water 15 minutes away from you. You know what I'm saying? Go east. Go what? Go east on the water for two, three hours. You hit the Bahamas? Anywhere. Where else are you going to go? Get that.

It's like, there's so much like, like, I fucking love my hand. And the cold. My biggest thing is the culture, actually, though. mine too that's well that's my biggest I'm playing golf the other day at palmetto golf course right I'm on like I didn't get what is it it's the eighth hole right so it's like right before the back nine and right there's US 1 right and at the caller

dealership right I got shit they're blah it's like 11 a.m maybe 10 30 they're blasting like I get on dude I'm like dude I feel like I'm a freaking island right now like palm trees everywhere sunny as crap I have a cigar yeah I'm like I'm living the fucking dream right now even though I'm not but I am No, it's true. I mean, what other place?

I played the Columbus tournament on Saturday. And we got like a nice polo. We got a nice hat, whatever. And all of a sudden, there was a hole that there was a lady with a table of cigars. And she's like, oh, gentlemen, grab whatever you want. And we're like, where else are you going to get this? Parties here, hand-rolled cigars all the time. Like, if it's not there, it's not a real party.

That's it. That's like a DJ, food, and a hand-rolled cigar. That's what you eat. That's what you need. Yeah, in your way. Yeah, dude, that's what I'm saying. Like, that to me is like, whether you're from Miami or not, people come to Miami and that's exactly what they want to do. Yeah.

People that lived in Miami the whole life, that is what they do. Yep. You know what I'm saying? So it's like, whether you're from here or not, people literally enjoy to live that culture that Miami offers. Like, think of pastaditos. Think of this. Think of that. Like, people fucking eat and breathe that, whether they even like it or not.

So to me, Miami is home into the heart. Like, same, bro. I mean, the thing about I, I practically live in Fort Lauderdale. If you think about it, of how much. Florida is cool, too. And, I mean, it's cool. It doesn't give you that, uh, but it doesn't give you that. There is like no melting pot there.

It's literally just one, you know, one demographic and everyone's old there. To all no, they're a bunch of, like, you know, Americanos there and they, and they do their own thing. Like, you have their own life. So it's like, what are you really, you know, what are they really going to tell you? Bro, just to find a good cafetito over there, good luck. That's the one thing I don't think that would ever be able to leave. Yeah.

I have at least two or three a day. And you know what the funny part is? All my buddies at work, they love Cafesito. Of course. They love Cafesito. And they all know. It's crack cocaine. They all know.

They don't know how to speak a lick of Spanish. But they're like, can I have a colada? Yeah. Straight up. Bro, I go, my first thing, the moment I wake up is I walk straight to my espresso machine, click the button. let it do its job. Just let it do its job.

And that first sip is like my first sip I ever had a cafe. It never, it's never bad. It's so good. Never bad. But, all right, so before we kind of like finish up here, um, just, I kind of want you to like, let us, you know, based on like what you've kind of like, you know, dealt with, like in your short post-graduate career, you know, last two years, like, what would you give, like, advice for someone that's

just, like, kind of like, trying to figure their shit out right now? Um, I'd probably say if, like, at the end of the day, you still need a job, right? And that's what we always were taught to do, right? Get a job and all that. So you got to. Yeah, you have to experience that, I think. Because if I wouldn't have experienced that, I wouldn't, like, I'd be so lost.

Without one, you can't have the other. Exactly. You know what I'm saying? So it's like, it's fun. That's actually an awesome point because, like, even to the point of, like, people that are like, bro, like, I'm just not happy. Like, I'm just so confused. It's like, dude, that's literally what life is about.

It's like you got to experience one to realize, okay, I don't like this. So now that's just eliminated completely out of the equation. Like experience is probably the best teacher. Yeah. And I mean, how many people change their majors in college and how many times do they change? Exactly. And to the point that I got a degree in something and don't use it. Yeah.

Well, I mean, bro, half of us, most of us, let's say, get a degree in something and we don't use it. Unless you're a doctor, which is crazy. I don't even want to get into it. So unless, like I. I got a degree in econ, I do six. Yeah. So that's something completely different. Oh, wow, we're just being attacked here by this vicious pickle right now.

What's so? I don't know. I got a, we got a dog break in the middle of our, in the middle of our episode here. That was, uh, yeah, he got excited, he got excited, but, wow, or was I? Um, I got, yeah, I got a degree in econ. I'm doing sales right now. I'll never use my degree. You know,

maybe the way of thinking and all that, that's different. Like my dad who's an engineer, he was a mechanical engineer for a little bit, and then he went into sales. And he just uses the way of thinking and the way to approach a problem

and solve that problem. That's what he uses. But the fact that, like, I learned about micro and macroeconomics, I'm not using that. And I mean, that's fine with me, whatever, but it sucks because at the end of the day,

like, it's kind of a waste of money. I wish I would teach us, like do your taxes, you know, how to apply for loans, how to do all that stuff, you know, negotiating a car or anything. Dude, like actual life, like actual life lessons. I mean, like to me, like the education system, like, I mean, me saying this right now means nothing, but your education system is flawed.

Like I, you know, all this student loan debt for me to not like learn anything valuable. Like everything that I've learned has become from like reading books, reading articles online. just like life. Yeah. So, I mean, not to get like, there's no political side to it, but the government's biggest asset right now is student loan debt, which is nuts. Yeah. That's incredible.

You got to tell me that. Yeah, exactly. So that's the crazy part. So of course, like they want you to keep going and doing it. And that's why I bro. My brother left school for, you want to come back. Yeah. And they want you to work their corporate life.

Why? Because they get to tax you like crazy every single time you get paid. And they say like, oh, no, don't want to. where we got you, like when tax refunds come, you'll get some money back. And then you look at really how much money they took and how much you get back. And it's like, it's unreal. That's just to keep the people happy. But hey, look, we're not here to create it.

I know, what is it, Big Brothers watching? Yeah, 100%. So if this podcast doesn't get improved, we at least know why. But, all right, bro. So anything else you got, you want to say to the people before we kind of log out of here? And I'll throw some random questions at you real quick. Yeah. I would say just one, invest in yourself.

That's something that's huge, right? And that's something that with school, yeah, we get to, we're always taught that reading is like, it's just homework. And there's a test that comes after it and all. And I hated reading, man. Like when I tell it, like, I would not read books. And I love reading now and I hated it in school. Yeah. And now I'll read books.

Like in 2019, I told myself, I'm like, I want to start reading more. And I think I've read like five, six books already this year. I read like a book or month. Lately I've been reading like a book a week. And there's some books that I'll finish in like one or two days depending on one short and how amazing they are. And I think that's investing in yourself just because it opens up your perspective on things too. Like you're reading something and you're like, oh wow, I literally never thought about it like that.

Not because of anything. It's just like you've never been presented it like that way. So then the moment you see it, you're like, shit, that's actually true. Yeah. And I mean there's different books. There's one that's like there's like self. self-help and then there's like if you're in business then you know you read those as well but you got to read them together so that you actually grow yourself as a person right and it's it's something

that school again it taught me that I was like man I would never summer reading tell you like how to like build a routine like what I see out of school is like you tell me how to build a routine and obviously gave me a shit ton of friends yeah um you know uh it created like a structure an amazing network I have an amazing network see pride baby yeah see that's that network is insane. Like I, to this day, and I'm only 23, half of the things that have happened in my life are strictly on the fact that I went to Columbus. Yeah. That's it. It's crazy. Whether they know in Miami. Here, it's not. Especially in Miami. That's another reason why I went up Columbus High School on your resume. Oh yeah. I was in this frat. I was in this frat. And I'm not trying to call out anybody

that was in a frat. Like, good for you. But all my friends are in frats. But Columbus was the biggest fraternity that ever existed in Miami. And Belin, I'll give Belend the credit to you. Belend does And, you know, there's other high schools, but, like, from what I've seen in the amount of traction and the alumni network that actually, like, genuinely cares about the other people that graduate after, like, it's insane. Well, just to, like, harp on that, like, the fact that Columbus, like, I'll go to a football game. I'll go to a lacrosse game. And my friends are like, oh, what are you doing Friday night? I'm like, oh, I'm going to my high school football game. And they're like, that's so boring.

I'm like, bro, you just don't get it. And they're like, I haven't gone to my high school since I graduated. and I hate my school, whatever. I was like, dude, you do not understand. Yeah. And people just, they really don't get it unless you went there, unless you went to Columbus or Belen, again, you got to give the Belin. Belin gets the credit because they're all like, everyone there is still close.
