All right, welcome back to another episode of Cafecito and Croquettas Friday edition, brought to you by Stay Tranquilo and H&Coh.
Today, we're joined by a very special person, my girlfriend, Valerie Bello, a leader in the fitness space in Miami.
And we want to highlight some of the events going on in Miami, specifically in the fitness space.
So, one, thank you.
And I'm very happy to have you here.
Thank you for having me.
I'm really excited to be here and our first collab together.
It's really nice.
Absolutely.
So before we tell the people about the events going on this weekend, tell them a little bit about yourself
and your involvement in the fitness, wellness space in Miami.
So I'm a full-time Pilates and Yoga instructor pretty much across all over Miami in Windwood,
the Gables, Little River, Durrell.
I teach mainly Matt Pilates classes.
I teach a tremble, ex-former, and I do a lot of events.
And this weekend we have a very special event by my two very close friends in the space as well,
Steph and Ballets and Lates.
Yeah.
So it's one, the first event ever at Inter Miami Stadium, Chase Stadium.
Yeah.
And it's hosted by Pilates and Lates.
Pilates and Lates.
And so tell us a little bit about that event that's going on and why it's such a special event.
So this event is their first, I guess you can say like co-ed event.
All their events are pretty co-ed, but for the most part in the space in Miami, you're seeing a lot of female dominant events when it comes to wellness, especially Pilates.
But this is a chance for the guys to come through or to just kind of have a co-ed space and everyone to enjoy this workout.
Yeah, no, definitely.
I mean, I've gone to multiple wellness events.
My classes, too.
And I'm always the only guy.
So this is an opportunity for the guys to show out.
It's a good time. It's a good time to meet people. It's a good time to just get a workout in. You're probably getting a workout in Saturday at some point either way. So why not do it around a community of people and also around a sporting event, you know, Inter Miami Game. You get to see a little bit of messy and some of the other guys over there at the stadium. So it's a pretty cool opportunity to meet people, be around sports and then also get a workout in, which I think is awesome.
Yeah, and there's also, so it's kind of like a Pilates festival.
There's going to be three chances for you to take a class.
There's going to be a 430 class with Zale, and that's going to be in Spanish.
So if you, you know, if you prefer Spanish class, it's going to be completely Spanish Pilates class.
The second class is by the other co-founder, Steph Katz, one of my very dear friends.
And that's going to be just like a classical class.
And then the last class is by Dorian, which is also one of my dearest friends.
And it's a Pilates boot camp.
Yeah, he's a best.
sorry, Pilates' boot camp class, which will kick your booty.
So prepare for that.
Yeah, no, it'll be a great time.
It'll be a great workout.
And if somebody wants to get their tickets, we could definitely obviously share the link with you.
And then if you use the code Tranquilo, you actually get $25 off the event.
So definitely attend, use the code, and you'll get a nice little discount on top of a good time over there at the event.
So we're excited.
and I think it'll be an awesome event.
Yeah, yeah.
And just going back to the format of the event,
there's the three classes which you can hop into whatever class you want.
And there's going to be activations throughout the whole entire time,
like wellness activations, a sunscreen booth, hydration station,
and a lot of photo op opportunities.
And what else?
And then we get to seat together to watch the game cheer on Inter Miami.
And, yeah, it's just a lot of fun.
It's going to be a really nice event.
Yeah.
And you said some photo op.
So after the game, people can maybe get some pictures.
Yeah, it can get up in the actual, like, field.
You can have a photo up opportunity, which is really cool.
Nice, yeah.
You never know with these wellness events.
I remember when we did the one with Stay Fit.
Oh, yeah, State Fit event.
We did the Dolphins.
Or Miami, what is it?
What's the other one?
Miami Yoga Club.
Yeah.
And we got to go watch Hain de Zona at the Dolphins game Monday Night Football,
which was pretty cool.
So these events are always a good time,
and you really never know what can come.
out of it. Sometimes you sign up to these things and you're like, oh shoot, I didn't even know
this is a part of it. Yeah, it's a surprise. And it's true, going back to what you were saying that you
are almost always like the only guy there. Yes. And, you know, we had an event on Monday where it was
like a yoga class and Andre looked around and was like, I'm literally the only guy here. And I was like,
we got to change that. Yeah. Because to bring that kind of mindfulness into the space and I think
everyone can benefit from that. Yeah. No. I, the wellness and mindfulness. I walked into
that event on Monday at Musen, I was like, I can't be the only guy at these events. It's not good. It's
not good. There's so much to offer. Obviously, it's like the wellness component, but it's like,
if you're a guy, like you get to, you know, get to meet people in like-minded spaces, which I think
is also great. And it's just an opportunity to connect with people. And I think there's obviously
a little bit of like, I guess, taboo. I guess like a stigma. Like a stigma. Yeah, like a stigma.
where guys like, oh, I can't do Pilates or I can't do yoga, like that's for girls.
And like even like mindfulness practices and like meditation, like those are all things
that guys should be doing.
I mean, whether you want to do Pilates on the regular, you know, maybe not, but that's fine.
You can, but you can still incorporate that into your overall, you know, wellness.
And then it's the opportunity also of like doing yoga classes and going to these events
because they're not really for girls only.
It's for everybody.
And I think that's the reputation out there.
So it's just shifting that mindset, like, just show up.
Show up for one.
And you're going to see that you're going to want to show up to more.
And it's also just kind of like opening yourself up to something new, which can be very scary,
like being vulnerable in that space and kind of stepping into that.
Like you, you know, you had me there.
You were supporting me.
But if a guy were to go in there and be like, well, I'm the only guy here.
It could be kind of intimidating because, you know, you're surrounded by this, like, big,
female presence, and it can be kind of, like, overwhelming for a guy to want to open up and
go to these events.
So it could be a great chance for you to meet people, meet friends, meet a girl, like, I don't know,
you know, like, it's a great place to connect, you know?
And if you're into fitness, Pilates is such a great exercise to complement your string training.
it's gonna it's really good for your spine
and for just overall like health
and it's hard and it's really hard
it's not easy and it's a lot harder because
you know I get you know I get the
sometimes I get like a guys come into my hot Pilates classes
and my hot scope classes and then they're like
oh yeah I'm ready for this like really good stretch
and I'm just like oh honey
you don't know what's coming put those ankle weights on baby
like you're in for a journey a ride
And then at the end of the class, they're like, Val, what the heck was that?
And I'm like, yeah, welcome.
Welcome to the movement.
And then he's like, yeah, that's scary.
But it's great.
You know, it's a great challenge.
It's like any workout, any workout shouldn't be easy.
Yeah, yeah.
Why not do it over some Pilates or some hot yoga or hot Pilates, whatever it may be?
But I think everybody should put themselves in that situation and try it.
And I think this weekend is a great opportunity to,
do that. And I think bridging that connection of like these, you know,
female style workouts with like a sporting event. A male dominant space. Right.
Right. Is, is the perfect way to do it. And like they did it at the,
at the dolphin, you know, somebody else, State Fit 305 did it at the Dolphins game a
couple weeks ago. Yeah. Pilates and Lattees will be hosting it now at Inter Miami. And it's
like really cool to see like the synergy between sports, which is like the male
dominant side with fitness. And I think we saw something too like the,
Panthers are going to do.
Pilates and Panthers.
Yeah.
I feel like this can become a big, like, wave.
Marlins Mark has done something to.
Yeah, which is cool.
It's interesting.
Why not?
Like, if you're going to go to the game already as it is,
are you even contemplating,
get a workout in before.
Yeah.
And you earn that, you know, that beverage at the game.
Yeah.
That's the way I definitely look at it.
I'm like, I got a nice little sweat in.
Now I'm ready to watch and enjoy the game.
Enjoy it as glizzy.
A glizzy.
A glissie.
A beer.
You know, it's, we're not doing the nine beer.
nine glizzy challenge here.
That's like so scary.
Oh no, it was rough.
But it is a testament to like, hey, if you're a dude, like you could do this and it's
going to be, and then it's going to be, and it's not only can you do this, but it's
actually going to be a really good time.
So bring your, not only come alone, like bring the boys.
Yeah, bring your guy friends.
And if you got a girl, bring your girl too.
Yeah.
It's a good time for whatever situation.
You never know.
Like, be like, hey, babe, I got plans for us today.
And it's like, dress up.
We're going to Pilates.
class, but also a soccer game.
So, yes, I think it'll be a good way to be like, yeah, we're going to the game, but we're
going to Pilates as well.
So, and then who knows, maybe you like the class.
Yeah, that's true.
So talk to me a little bit also, like, just the overall fitness space and wellness space in
Miami.
Like, obviously we talked about some of the challenges of like the male aspect in, you know, Pilates and yoga
and some of these other styles of wellness.
But like overall, obviously Miami is known to be a very,
I would say fitness, heavy style city.
Like you go to Key Biscayne, you go to the Grove, you see people running, the bridge.
Like, we're an active city.
So tell me a little bit about like Miami as a whole
and what you see on your side.
On my side as a fitness professional, I see definitely just this big growth in people
and wanting to expand.
I guess in their personal growth, right?
So they go to these classes.
I get a lot of my regulars and they keep coming back,
and it's because they just want to keep getting better and better and better.
And I don't know, I see that.
You know, there's also the other side that, you know,
this Pilates industry has gotten, you know,
I call the Pilates boom.
Yeah, it's big.
There's a lot of new instructors.
There's a lot of new studios.
And, like, you know, at the end of the day,
you go and you take class to wherever you feel good.
And not only for your growth, but maybe you've had like a really long day and you're looking forward to that class at the end of the day and it's going to make you feel better.
And as a professional and as a Pilates instructor, you know, it's really hard to, I guess, not burn out in this field, right?
And especially when there's such demand and how can I give that same energy that I give my 7 a.m. to my 7 p.m. class in the same exact day, right?
And I'm off and on classes traveling all over Miami.
So I think it's definitely that energy that you create in class,
it feeds back into your instructors.
I don't know if that makes any sense.
Yeah, absolutely.
I'd call it like an energy exchange.
So I find that everyone's almost awakening themselves in that way that they're becoming aware of this energy exchange.
And I think, I hope that it's translating outside of the classroom as well.
Because it definitely is for me at least.
Like, how am I expending my energy and also is this draining my energy or is this helping me grow as a person?
So I think everyone's almost tapping into that mindset and just taking care of themselves more.
And less about the aesthetic of how do I look, how can I get skinny versus how can I feel good?
Right.
Right.
Which is what I'm trying to, I guess, every single class, like people come in and I'm like, oh, like, what are your goals?
Like, what are you looking for?
And, you know, you get the typical, like, I just want to lose weight.
you know, especially girls, like, we have this, like, big pressure to be perfect all the time.
And I, for me at least, in my classes, and what I do is, maybe you're already perfect.
You know, how can you better yourself and feel good in your skin?
And I struggle with that, too, because growing up Hispanic women, you know, like, we have this, like,
I guess, stigma of being perfect and that beautiful and staying young forever and saying skinny forever.
and almost like, who, you know, that kind of like translates throughout your rest of the day,
the rest of your life.
And I'm almost like this industry has helped me reshape my thinking and taking care of me
and less about the aesthetics, more about what's inside.
So I hope that that's what everyone else kind of gets from my classes.
And from a lot of my friends, too, that they teach, they have the same kind of like goal in mind
as to inner growth.
And then on the plus side, yes, you get super hot because Pilates are hard.
Yeah, it's like the look good, feel good, obviously.
Right, yeah.
And the more time that you devote to putting in effort into your body, into your overall health.
Right.
Like you're just going to.
It all sorts of click.
It's just going to all kind of come together.
Yeah, and I was talking to a client about this yesterday.
It ended up being like a one-on-one class, which I sometimes, like, it's surprisingly really nice, right?
when it turns out like everyone canceled and it just got one that one client, I'm like,
okay, what are we focusing on, right?
And she's like, I just really want to get skinny.
And I was like, okay, but like, let's dive deeper.
Like, what is it?
You know, like, because I had that same mentality and I was like, until I started, and you
helped me out with this a lot, like, I guess less resistance.
Right.
It kind of eased it.
And I managed to get into whatever my goals were without even noticing.
and that was really powerful for me.
I think that's just like that's alignment, right?
Yeah, you're just in alignment.
You know, you tap into what's meant for you, like, will be for you.
Yeah.
So when you do the things that are that you may not know in the moment are meant for you,
but like things just start clicking, like that's the universe saying,
hey, what you're doing is the right thing.
Just keep doing it.
And everything else will just kind of keep stacking on top of each other.
Feel good inside and out.
So, yeah, those are just my two cents
of what I think about wellness in the space.
Miami, there's a lot going on Miami.
There's run clubs.
You know, now you've got these Pilates events.
Like, there's plenty of opportunity to be active.
I mean, this is just one aspect of it.
Yeah, right, right, right.
But there's so much going on in Miami
and, you know, Brickle Run Club,
a Coconut Grove Run Club.
You have all these Pilates events
and these other, you know, State Fit 305 style events
that, to your point, it's community.
And I think when people talk about like, oh, I got to go to the bars to meet people
and I got to go out to meet people.
Honestly, these are the best places to meet people because not only are you around
a bunch of people, but you're around a bunch of people that are like-minded like you
that are clear.
Care about their health.
Yeah, care about their bodies, care about themselves.
And then that's just a testament to like the people that you're aligning with.
So like, do you even struggle to find like, oh, I always run.
I always get the worst people.
well, you're probably finding them in the wrong places.
And this is an opportunity.
And I think Miami does do a very good job of putting these together
and finding those people that you may want to interact with.
Yeah, yeah, I agree.
Definitely.
And that connecting with, like you said, connecting and, sorry.
Connecting with like-minded people.
Yeah, connecting with like-minded people.
And, you know, when I started getting into this, in this industry,
I, you know, remember my friends being like,
oh, I can't make it to that.
I can't do that.
Right.
And maybe you were like busy and I was like, all right, well, I guess I'm going to have to go alone.
And it's scary.
It is very scary to go alone and be brave and show up to these places.
But in those events are where I've met some of the coolest, most influential people,
people that have helped me grow up to where I am right now.
You never know who you're going to meet.
Yes.
And it just takes breaking out of the shell and trying something new.
Yeah, 100%.
So come to Pilates and Lattees.
Yes.
Come through Pilates and Lattees this weekend, Saturday, at the stadium.
It starts at what, 4 p.m., right?
So, 4.30 p.m.
It starts at 4.m. until 7 p.m. is the actual festival.
You have those three classes.
You can choose to take either class or all three, if you're daring and bold.
And then we have the game after, which is, you know, whatever the game time, 7.30 p.m.
Shortly after.
So, yeah, tune up to the event and use code, tranquilo, to begin.
Get your tickets for $25 off.
Yeah, pretty good deal.
All right, guys.
Well, thank you guys for tuning in, and we will see you all Monday.
Thank you.
