What is up everybody? You're listening to the state tranquilo podcast. I'm here with my friend Cody Yee.
How you doing? Thank you for having me. We're here. We're going to talk some life. We're going to talk some tranquil vibes. And we're just going to have a good conversation for everyone to enjoy. All right. So kick back, relax, and enjoy the show.
So it's up, Cody. Give me a little bit about you, who you are, what you like in life, just a little bit about everything.
So right now I'm working as a physical therapist, tech,
right now. I applied a PA school. That's what I want to do is my life career. I have another
interest. But I'm waiting here back. I applied. Everything's good. It's just a waiting game.
As everybody knows, applying a grad school. Yep. It's just a waiting game. It's a tough,
it's a tough little ride. Yeah. It's like you're in the ocean and no, you're waiting for that
little bottle. Exactly. Just to show up. Yeah. I feel that. I feel that 100%. And what do you want to go to
grad school for you uh grad school a pa it's two years um hopefully i can stay local okay it's one less
expense yeah exactly studying abroad or across the country but yeah yeah no i hope to f i u
pause up baby oh yeah once a panther always a panther exactly i at i at first when i started
at f i was like hard for me to to like it just because i felt like there wasn't much of like a college
atmosphere there i felt like it was an extension of high school it felt like an extension of high school but
But the older I got and the circles kind of like started splitting up and I started getting more into like more of like my major classes.
Yeah. I realized that, you know, this is actually cool.
Like, you know, I have a lot of freedom, even though I still lived at home.
Yeah.
You know, had a lot of freedom, did whatever I kind of wanted to do.
And I met a lot of people and made a bunch of friends.
So it was cool.
And it's still friends that I have to this day.
So it's been, it was fun.
It was fun.
really enjoyed college and honestly to this day I still miss it at times I'm not going to lie yeah
once you're out of school you're like oh do I do yeah I feel so good to graduate and then after that
you're just like it's funny how life works right yeah you're like I want to get over I'm done with this
and then everyone's always in a rush everyone's always in a rush to get to this point and then you
realize you get to that point you're like okay it wasn't really what I expected you know I was
like my thing was when I got at college I was like dude I'm going to make so much money like
this is this is going to be awesome I'm going to be living at home yada yada yada
and you know my life is yeah my life is nothing how I expected it to be so it was cool I mean I got a job
right at the college and okay nice but you know I ended up quitting it didn't like it I feel like
it's like the millennial area where we struggle to find something that we really like but when we do
but when we really do yeah Miami especially it's very expensive to live down here I was talking
about it with one of my friends uh you know I'm Joe was Joseph Osley yeah yeah so
We were saying how here, like as a young, like under 25, basically, it's hard to live in Miami.
It's expensive one.
The job market is like.
You need experience when you're trying to apply for the experience.
Exactly.
So it's like, where the hell do we fit in here?
And that's why I see a lot of people leave and I'm like, good for you.
Like, I'm glad you were able to do that.
It's not easy.
It's not easy.
I mean, I love Miami.
I love like the sun 24-7, even though it can get super hot.
But one thing I've realized, like I love the heat.
There's nothing about being able to go to the beach.
And you drive a Jeep.
So, like, windows down all year long, baby.
Yeah.
So tell me a little bit about yourself, like, in terms of, like, what do you like to do?
What do you do, like on your free time?
Like, a little bit about you.
When I get the chance, I like to do extra work.
Extra work, what do you mean by that?
Oh, okay, okay.
Like a background extra.
Okay.
You get paid little money, but it's still fun.
It's so cool experience.
Well, you said, you had told me that you were on, what was it,
Ballers?
I do extra work.
It's fun.
It's an experience.
It's a whole different world, the entertainment business.
Yeah, I'm sure.
Something I like to expand on, but.
Is that something that you'd want to like pursue, like in your life?
Giving the opportunity?
It's one of those things.
It's like you want to be settled in with a job.
You want to be secure with money in the back of your head.
That's like a big risk that you're taking.
Exactly.
You know?
That's been my biggest, I feel like my biggest problem with, you know,
taking this leap with it on.
kilo and getting it going and getting it started was the fact like you know I knew I was going to
take this and I probably wasn't going to make money right off the bat but I knew this is something
that I wanted to do like this is who I am I knew I wanted to go make a difference out there and
and I always had a big drive to just simply go enjoy life like that is my mindset and it's something
that is hard you know it is when like you said when the finances aren't present or you know
you know the friends aren't really always around yeah a lucrative career or it's not the most popular
choice you get me so and the eyes of others like now you start really distancing yourself from everyone
and you you're like what the heck am i supposed to do with this so i get that 100% like yeah it's not
it's not the best decision it's not the most logical decision and you get scared too because but that's
but that's the biggest problem fear fear can really turn you away from your dreams exactly i think
that's what a lot of people struggle with.
Yeah, and I think that as a society, we really struggle with the idea of dreaming.
Yeah.
We get, you know, when we're kids, and I actually did a video on this a couple weeks ago,
when we are in our everyday lives and when we're kids, you know,
we had this idea of, you know, I wanted to be an astronaut or I wanted to be a major league
baseball player.
And those are awesome.
Like those are dreams.
And obviously your dreams change over time because you realize,
okay,
I'm not athletic or I don't really care to be an astronaut.
It just looks cool at the moment.
But that concept of dreaming and thinking bigger is kind of like,
it shrinks out of a lot of people's heads.
You know,
people feel like,
oh,
I can't think that way because it's not reasonable or I can't do that.
Like so much negative talk is in our heads telling us that we can't go after our dreams.
Like we can't go after the dream job that we want.
And we just settle for, okay, that job pays a lot.
And I guess I could do that.
So I'll go do that.
Yeah.
And it sucks because there's no real happiness behind that, you know, maybe occasional happiness.
You finally land a job, the hard work, all that.
But one thing that I've always asked myself is like, okay, is this something that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life and being happy doing it?
You know, because one thing is just doing it to get by.
That's just a hard part too, you know, because you don't even.
know what it's really like until you actually do it and and that's about taking that leap of faith you
got to actually do it you know yeah for you it may seem like you want to go do that and then you start
doing it and you're like oh i really don't care for it you know when i when i was graduating college
i really thought i wanted to do strength and conditioning because i played sports my whole life and
i was like cool i get to be back on the field and i love sports but dude i interned for a whole summer
and didn't get paid so that really humbles you in terms of do i want to do this or not yeah and i wasn't
getting paid dude and I was miserable miserable miserable miserable every day I had to go and
report I hated it I didn't like it and I was like you know what this is not for me but you know
what at least I figured that out before I went into the job market and before I did that so sometimes
you just got to do take that leap of faith and figure out what it is when you try things out you can say
in the back of your head I tried it out I didn't like it it gives you it gives you that sense of confidence
that okay I know I don't need to do that and it's about trial and error man like oh yeah you got to be
able to try something one day, try something another day, and then figure it out from there.
But if you don't, if you're not willing to put in that, you're not willing to put in that
trial and error, then that's where, that's where things go downhill.
And I think that's what a lot of people are afraid of the trial and error part.
Exactly.
No one wants to take that leap of faith.
Am I going to waste time doing this, you know?
Yeah.
We'll see.
I mean, I, I've always, like, you've always been a good friend of mine, like going through
Columbus.
So it's been cool to like, you know, see you where you.
you've gone and I know you've been working at that PT office for a while. So I get it. But
don't ever allow it to like stop you from like going after your. Yeah, I know after your dreams.
Because you don't want to get too comfortable. Because that's exactly. Comfort is good,
but stagnant comfort is bad. Yeah. You know, I'm not going to go anywhere. Exactly. Like you can be
comfortable. Being comfortable is good. You know, like, you know, like you're happy where you are.
But if you're flat lines comfort where nothing's going, then that means you know, you got the ball roll.
You got to get something going, you know.
It's about just consistently, like, moving up, leveling up, leveling up.
And I always say it's like, if you guys are watching on Instagram Live or not, and if you're just listening.
But it's like, picture like a slope going up, right?
It's not a straight line going up, but it's a up and down kind of wave going up as you go.
You know, you're going to hit ups and downs, but as long as you're in that forward, upward trajectory.
That trend.
Exactly.
Then I feel like that's just a good way to just evaluate life.
It's up and down, but as long as it's a slope towards that's moving up.
So that's good.
So if you don't mind me asking, this is something that I really want to do with the podcast
and with the message of Tranquilo is we all deal with lows in life.
We all deal with problems and adversity.
It's a part of life, you know.
And it's just how we decide how we want to handle them and how we want to perceive them.
You know, we can let them beat us up and get lost in them.
Or we can say, okay, this is a test.
What do I got to do?
and how can I move forward and how am I going to handle it?
So I want to ask you what in your life has been something that's been difficult to deal with
and kind of like how have you dealt with it in your life?
Like what's been an issue over time?
That's a good question.
I feel like when we were talking about being comfortable.
What's up, Melanie?
Thanks for joining.
How are you doing?
When we're being comfortable, I feel like I didn't have a good balance.
between social life and work life.
Gotcha.
Even in college through school,
I never went out to like the football games.
I went to like one or whatever.
I was always consumed with school.
Okay.
And I always felt like that was like an issue that I had.
Okay.
I didn't enjoy the college years as you're supposed to.
But with Tranquiro, you find that balance just to sit back.
Just to sit back and take it all in.
It's one life.
You got to enjoy the most out of it.
Exactly.
I agree.
So I feel like that's what I need to work on myself.
Just that balance.
Got you.
It's not just work.
It is.
And it is,
it's about that work,
fun balance.
Like you got to be able to do a little bit of everything.
You know,
don't overwhelm yourself in one field of life and then completely forget about
everything else.
You know,
you can't just sit around on your butt all day and do nothing.
Yeah.
And just kick it and forget about life.
But,
you know,
you got to be able to have fun,
relax and put in the work into something that you care about i i feel like a big indicator of
how life should be kind of like perceived and how it how you should make your decisions is
simply like does this make me happy yeah you know if if i'm here right and i'm i'm consumed in
schoolwork right you know are you okay with that that you're missing your saturday tailgates are you
okay with it because now you're looking back and you're like damn what if i you know i sacrificed a
couple of saturdays just to go let go a little bit and be with my friends and have a good time
because sometimes we're all so focused on on this but we forget to live in the present yeah you know
it's this this this this and this and we have goals and dreams and that's awesome but we also got to
understand that there's this moment right now that we're allowed to allow i think is a good word
because i've had that problem where i don't allow happiness sometimes in my life yeah
you know, where I'm like, oh, I can't be happy right now because I got to be so focused on making
this happen. And then it becomes a habit, you know, I don't allow myself to be happy because
I'm always so consumed and trying to make things happen that I forget to appreciate right now.
And I think, like, going back to what you're saying, a lot of people get caught up in that
where they don't know how to balance work or in life. It's hard. It is. And it's a constant
struggle, I think, with people in general our age to people 40, 50 years old.
Because, you know, I see my mom, who's a single mom.
And, you know, sometimes they get consumed in having to do everything for their kids.
And you feel like you need to step up.
Exactly.
And you respect what they're doing.
You love what they're doing.
And you can't be the person without them.
But it makes you, like you said, feel a little bit like guilt on your end.
Like you're not doing enough.
And then you let that get to you.
And then now you're just like, okay, how am I supposed to, how am I supposed to enjoy my life?
And it's a, it's a consistent struggle.
And I think many people out there just need to understand that it's okay.
Like whatever is going on, don't like beat yourself up over it.
Just understand the fact that you understand that you have that struggle between your work life is already step number one.
You know, so now it's about taking action about that awareness.
that you have and and just understanding okay this is what i want to do i want to go enjoy more i understand
i put in my work you know now it's time for me to go and enjoy so it's like sitting back and say
this is what i've got this is what i've dealt with yeah what can i do now exactly exactly you know
yeah yeah so and you're going to have to sacrifice things in life there's a lot of things but
at the end of the day if you're sacrificing for a purpose then that's okay but if you're sacrificing
something for for what is it going to mean anything is it going to mean anything yeah don't
Don't live a life of regret.
Don't live a life of what ifs.
Just because the what it, I've had a bunch of what ifs.
And I look back and I'm like, why?
Like, why did I do that?
And that's why I started Tranquilo.
Because I knew this is something I wanted.
Did I know what was going to happen with it?
Not even a clue.
Not even a clue.
But I wasn't going to go back three years from now, five years from now.
And say, damn, what if I would have started Tranquilo?
Like, what would have happened?
Exactly.
You get me?
and if you live that life, a life of regret is the worst.
Because the older you get, the more regrets you're going to have.
So try to limit those regrets as much as you can and just live in the moment and then work towards a goal.
You got one life, people.
One life, man.
And just don't take it so seriously.
Yeah.
You get me?
It's all temporary.
Like one thing I've realized because I've seen a lot of like death recently.
I feel like between Mac Miller was one of them that caused a lot of people's attention.
and then just like I hear people like at our age that taking their lives or contemplating taking
their lives or they're just depressed or they're just sad and it's disappointing to see that man like
we have a whole life ahead of us we have so many dreams and so but like this world that we live in
is causing us to just forget about all of that and then making us think about that we have to take
our life because that's a better option yeah
You know what that is?
Like, that's, it's sad.
It's sad.
And it's made me realize, okay, like, one, I can't allow myself to get into that situation.
You know, if I see myself down, I need to pick myself right back up.
Yeah.
Because I'm not going to get caught in that trap because I know that I have a greater purpose in this life.
I know that there's a lot more to life than my current situation.
Exactly.
Understanding that everything's temporary gives you a little bit of like that motivation to keep going.
So those people who are going through that, they're not alone.
And exactly.
And that's why I appreciate that on Kilo.
Exactly.
It just sends out that message to everyone who might be struggling with some internal demons that they might have.
And that's good that you said that.
It's the internal part.
Yeah.
The external can look so good.
Yeah.
You know, and I'm one that I feel like people look at it on me.
Like, I was talking to one of my friends the other day and I was telling her how, you know, like lately I haven't been like in a good spot like mentally.
You know, I've just been thinking a lot and trying to figure, figure things out.
But she's like, dude, I would have never guessed.
Like you're always like the life of the party.
Like you're always like up and smiling.
And I'm like, yeah, because I don't want to allow my energy to bring anybody down.
You know, my energy is my energy.
You always consider other people for yourself.
It's like a blessing and a curse in the skies, man, because I do like to prioritize people over myself.
But, you know, you got to be able to take care of yourself first because I'm a big believer.
If you can't take care of yourself, you can't take care of others.
Because who are you if you can't have your life figured out to try.
take care of somebody else's life. Exactly. So and and and that's kind of, you know, I don't have
life figured out. Doesn't mean like Tranquilo's like to go figure out life. Exactly. But it's just a
consistent, a consistent reminder like, yo, we're all going to deal with adversity. We're all
going to deal with problems. Yeah. But don't get so worked up of it inside your mind, you know,
just learn to like let it go and keep moving forward and just enjoy every single moment. It's part
of life. The good and the bad. You got to learn. Okay.
And somebody told me something yesterday that I thought was really good.
And it was like about how don't look so much about like the bads,
but see what you can get good out of the bad.
Because everything happens for a reason.
You've got to believe that.
Everything. Don't, don't play the blame game like, why me, why me, why me?
Because that's very negative.
And that's not going to get you anywhere.
It's going to put you deeper into your situation.
So understanding that it's like okay, whatever is going on and just that you're able to get out of that
and everything's going to be okay,
and that you can learn something from this,
that you can become stronger from this,
if you can just perceive life in that way,
the hard times aren't going to be so hard.
They're going to be hard because you know it's a hard time,
but you're not going to beat yourself up over that situation.
It's not about forgetting about not having problems.
Like, that's not what this is about.
It's about understanding that the problems aren't as bad as they seem.
Exactly.
So.
And if you feel like the problems are two months,
you can reach out to other people.
And people need to reach out.
Like for anyone listening, for anyone watching, if you have a problem in your life, you know, don't sit on it and think, okay, like, I'll just deal with it in my head.
No, talk about it with somebody.
You know, have a drink about it over with somebody or have a go outdoors and have a day out.
Yeah, go to the beach, go on a trip, something, you know.
Go do something that's going to go bring you that happiness, you know, whatever it is.
Don't sit in that downtime because it's not healthy.
It's not healthy.
And letting it sit and dwell inside of you is not the answer, like you said.
So basically, you know, we all got problems.
We all got things to go on.
What's up, Harvey?
What's up?
I can't leave that from here.
But understanding that we all got problems and we're not alone.
Like that is one of my main messages to spread because I think we all do have problems.
And some of us are afraid to talk about it.
And some of us need to understand that we're not alone in the struggles that we got going on.
And for the majority of my following base, it's like our age, you know.
And we all do have struggles right now.
It's the age 19 to like 25, I think, is a very gray area because we're trying to figure life out.
We're trying to, you know, we're trying to keep our friends.
We're trying to get the dream job.
We're trying to make money.
and be happy.
Exactly.
That's a lot to tackle on with whatever other situations you may be having on in life.
Today's day and age with social media, you have people your age are comparing yourself.
Yeah.
That's another thing.
So you don't want to compare yourself too much to other people.
Exactly.
Not everybody has that high life.
No, they don't.
And again, you've got to understand that it's an internal thing, not an external thing.
Exactly.
So all the pictures just show the external thing.
Yeah.
You know, everyone's smiling.
I mean, who in the world is going to post a picture of them crying on Instagram?
No one does.
Not many people, you know, and if they do, it's the celebrities.
And you're like, oh, they can do it because they're famous, you know?
But, I mean, how many guys have we seen that are celebrities on top of the world?
And they've committed suicide.
Mac Miller.
Mac Miller drug abuse, the guy from, what's this guy's name?
Who?
The rock artist.
This guy sent me a video of him the other day.
Whatever.
Another musician.
Demi Laval.
I think the guy from Maroon 5?
Is he from Maroon 5?
I don't know.
Him.
Really?
Didn't he commit suicide?
No, he still alive.
No, not him.
That true.
I forget who it was.
My bad.
But whatever.
Another celebrity.
And then there's two other people that recent, Robin Williams, another guy.
Yeah.
Who, I mean, apparently he had some like brain disorder.
But still, like, that's a guy, Robin Williams.
Yeah.
It's a guy that he was portrayed as a guy that was the commit, like funny,
the life of the party and he was in a terrible place.
So you've got to be able to take care of the internal battle before even worrying about the money or the status or this or that
because all that will come the moment you just become your truest version of yourself, which is internal.
Being able to handle that inside is going to be more rewarding than anything else.
And like you said, in the age of social media where everyone looks like they have it figured out,
looks like life is so good.
You don't know what that person is going.
and it could be just portraying something to get out of whatever they have going on inside.
So just be real, be the truest version of yourself and take the time to take care of your inner self.
Take the time to look inside and seeing what's going on.
And whatever problems are going on, you're not alone.
And understanding that and being able to kind of move on from there.
Exactly.
So kind of moving forward a little bit and finishing off real quick, what would you say in terms of
the Tranquilo lifestyle.
I know we kind of got into it a little bit there.
But just so we can really reiterate it,
how does the Tranquilo lifestyle apply to your life?
And what do you view it as in terms of something that you can apply every day?
With a tranquil lifestyle, it's for me personally,
is to sit back and enjoy what I have now in the moment.
Okay.
Don't dwell on your struggles or...
I love that, yeah.
You know, it's just sit back, enjoy what you have now.
We're blessed to be here every day.
Every day you wake up.
Every day is a blessing.
And I know it's easier said than done to just kind of say,
wake up and to say, yeah, life is so good today.
You know, when you got a million problems in your head, I get that because, you know,
that's something that.
Exactly.
The first thing I try to tell myself every day is the fact that life is good and everything is.
I can be in such a worse position.
Everything is a blessing.
Yeah.
Unhealthy.
Exactly.
But you got to always look at the good.
Again, we tend to always focus on the bad in our life because we're human beings.
And as human beings, we are always on the defense because we try to protect ourselves.
And the way of our protecting, protecting, quote unquote, is that we have to defend every single problem that we have.
And we have to dwell on every single problem that we have.
But it's not, you know, action is a way of protecting yourself.
but this is not a way of you're protecting yourself.
The way of protecting yourself is finding the good,
looking at the positives in every situation, good or bad.
So I agree with that.
That's what I appreciate with your posts and all that stuff.
It's a nice reminder.
Yeah, I mean, it's been, exactly.
And that's all it is, is a reminder, you know.
When people see Tranquilo, and, you know,
for why I kind of want about this is for them to understand that
when you see Tranquilo, it's a reminder that everything is going to be all right.
You know, we all got problems again.
We all got adversity that we got to deal with.
But just understand everything's going to be good.
Like, don't let it beat you up.
You know, keep moving forward, keep taking action, but understand everything's going to be all right.
Like for me and, you know, people may like criticize me for this, but, you know, that's what this is all about.
Controversy, conversation, this is what it's all about.
A person that got me through a lot of crap in my life was Bob Marley.
Bob Marley and I know he has a stereotype of the weed guy and this and whatever you want to call it.
But for me, his music and his message got me through life.
And that message of don't worry, everything is going to be all right.
Is one of the most positive messages that I can live to every single day.
Because I know that whatever I'm dealing with right now, I will be okay.
You know, I am not, this is not going to.
kill me. This is not going to define me. This is not who I am. You know, and it's a testament to
see who, who is the person that I'm going to become out of this, out of this problem. Life is full
of obstacles. It is. It's guaranteed. And you got to be okay with that. Yeah. What's up,
hobby and Borboilla and stop? What's up everybody? But, um, but yeah, that's good. You ever see
the map? It's like you, your goal. It's not just a straight line. You got curves everywhere.
It's going to be like this. It's a roller coaster. I like comparing life to a roller coaster. You
It's going to go upside down.
It's going to take off.
It's going to slow down.
You're going to go up and you're going to go right back down.
And you're going to go up again.
