Starting point is 00:00:03 Hi, he's Dave Shumka. And he's Graham Clark. And together we host, Stop Podcasting Yourself. Woo! Hello, everybody, and welcome to episode number 962 of Stop Podcasting Yourself. My name's Graham Clark. And with me, as always, is a man who's a real big fan of garlic. Mr. Dave Shumka.
Starting point is 00:00:32 What can I say? I'm dating an Italian woman. What's going to go with me? I'll tell you what. I'm in love. But I'm a vampire, so it's going to be really difficult. Graham, she's amazing. Every day, it's like a different kind of but noodle.
Starting point is 00:00:48 What is, how's her baked ziti? Oh, her bag ziti is to die for. She makes a good carpenter. Oh, great. I'm like, I've never been so in love. I'm smitten. What's her last name, boyardis? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Ellen Burrty. No. I love the chef boyardee. Yeah. Mondeu. She's, her name is Jeff Boyardt. She, you know, want to know how. How much I love with this garlicky lady.
Starting point is 00:01:19 I'm all my favorite. Ah, yes. Well, that's all from us here. Hey, guys. Yeah, I was cutting up a little garlic. We're going to barbecue some chicken later. Yum. Everybody gets to flip one.
Starting point is 00:01:32 That's awesome. Our guest today, first time guest here on the podcast, very funny, man. He has a special out on YouTube called Please Don't Kill Me, and he has one coming up. We're not 100% positive on what? The title's going to be. Little Cuties is the tentative title. It's on our saying, hello. Hey, thanks for having me, guys.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Thanks for being on the show. I'm excited. I got to say, I love this right away, because when I walked into the house and we talked for a little bit, no one told me to save it for the pod. And I love that. I feel like I've walked in other places where I'm just trying to be friends with the people. Yeah. And they say, save it for the pot.
Starting point is 00:02:07 If you were like, man, I just had this crazy surgery. We were going to say this. Yeah, yeah. We weren't really like working up to anything big up there. It was mostly like, hey, does it smell like garlic that you do you? I thought I was killing. Damn. Should we get to know us?
Starting point is 00:02:26 Get to know us. Let's take a picture. I forgot to take a picture of you. You're going to love it. This is awesome. Best picks in the game. Yeah, we can send that to you if you want to use it as your headshot. I'm paying $500 for this.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I better get some. We're just, man. Yeah, that's right. I forgot that we charged. Oh, we got us our charges. Yeah. So you have a special out and you're having another special coming out. I am.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I think I was at the recording of your special. Was this special and an album or was just a special? A special on an album, yeah. Is that a little mountain, right? Yeah. Yeah. And it was good. It was really funny.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Is that the second one or the first one? That's the second one. Okay. Where was the first one recorded? The first one was at the supermarket bar in Toronto. What's the supermarket? It's just a vaguely supermarket-themed bar that is a performance space. Well, not, the only thing they have is, like, half a shopping cart as assigned at the front.
Starting point is 00:03:22 And then nothing else is a better just like a supermarkets. Like there's no aisles. There's no tower of soup cans. And now they were talking about this, I'm like, that would be a way better bar. I would much rather be there. There's a lot of false advertising in the bar industry. I believe doesn't Toronto have a place called the bovine sex club? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:39 It does. And I went there with one thing in my business. mine and it didn't come up. Didn't come up for me. I left disappointed. There's like a little fake accountant place here, right? There's an accountant place. There's also a pet psychic place.
Starting point is 00:03:53 There's a pet psychic, yeah. And then there's another one, right? Isn't there another one that's like an office front building? Yeah, I think there's a few of them. Dunder Methlin? Dundre Methlin. Yeah. This is a speedy auto class.
Starting point is 00:04:07 And all the staff has to pretend to be characters from the office. Yeah. It's really nice. When you order they have to look into the camera like you're an idiot. Yeah. The guy that plays Kevin spills chili all over. I had like a certain dime every night, a five o'clock. He spills chili on the floor.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I try to think of a bar that I've gone to that really stuck with the theme. The Tiki bar here, this shameful Tiki does. Yes, they're pretty good. Yeah. I find that place frightening in an oral and light sense. Oh, okay. Me out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Too dark for you? Not too dark. They're just every 10 or so minutes. They're just bells. and lights and steam. That's true. I get scared. And Kevin spills the chili.
Starting point is 00:04:44 And Kevin spills the chili. It's Cesar's. It's horrible. Yeah, I don't know too many themed bars. I'm a homebody. Yeah. My life is a bar. Yeah, Dave's got an island in his kitchen.
Starting point is 00:05:01 He got to sits on the stool, like, dorm. You have a house and family themed bar. Yeah. Called your house. And you drink here. Yeah, I drink here. I drink here. I was a lot of, like, time to feed the dogs.
Starting point is 00:05:11 ring a big bell, bunch of lights go off, steam. You're drinking a volcano bowl. During the summertime, I find that bar opens pretty early. When I was last in, like, New York for a holiday, I feel like every second bar I went into had some sort of theme. There was like a trailer park bar that were like,
Starting point is 00:05:38 the bar was actually in like an old airstream. Oh, cool. It's kind of fun. Yeah, it was fun. Yeah, it was fun. Yeah. I mean. What time of year were you there?
Starting point is 00:05:44 I was there in the spring. Because an air stream for me always just seems like, how are people living in these things in the sun? Oh, when they're hot? They're so hot. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe not, though. Maybe it reflect.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Because, like, some people have tinfoil in their window to, like, reflects. So maybe it reflects off. Yeah, a lot of people live in an airstreams have tinfoil everywhere around the place. Yeah. Yeah. Is tinfoil in the window to reflect the light away or is it to keep the light out? like completely. Like I notice in places where the sun doesn't go down in the summer, they do that.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Yeah. I think also maybe it's like I thought it was always a heat thing. Uh-huh. But keeps the heat out, keeps the light out. Yeah. It doesn't keep the heat out if you're a baked potato. That's true. Oh, damn.
Starting point is 00:06:27 I didn't think about this. What's your stance on baked potatoes? Do you like it? Do you like, what's your favorite potato dish? I'm not an interesting person. So I'll tell you. a fries. Okay, fries.
Starting point is 00:06:42 I'm a fries guy. What type of... Yeah, okay. That's the thing for me is like, it's not fries or mashed. It's mashed. Yeah. Oh, mashed is great. How much lower are fries for you?
Starting point is 00:06:55 Let's see. I mean, I'm not... I think I've talked about this before. It's episode 962. I'm just tired of the fact that everywhere you go, fries are the default. It comes with... The default side. Whatever you get.
Starting point is 00:07:10 So I don't need to ever have another fry. But, like, they're good. They're good. Potatoes are, like, the incredible edible egg. Yeah, they go every which way. They're the egg of the earth. The egg of the inside the ground. That's a good, there you go.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Palm de Terre, the apple of the earth. Of the earth, yes. The egg, I mean, the potato, baked potato. So good. I find more trouble than it's worth. I like the thing is it takes too long but you don't have to do anything it just sits I gotta watch I get nervous yeah I don't know it can happen Graham you don't cook a lot do you uh not really no do you ever when you cook do you bake things uh do you what I'm getting at is do you ever
Starting point is 00:07:56 turn the light on the oven yes yes I do I love it there's a couple uh like I'll do um tofu squares they're so delicious that you bake them become become a little crunchy things that's really nice Is that like a savory thing? Savory. Okay. It's not like. Like tofu squares for the bake sale. Hot jello.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Tofu. Bean jello. Do you cook at all? I cook a very little bit and I'm trying to change. What are you cooking? What are you making? I can do like three or four things. I can do a tuna pasta.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Okay. That's pretty good. Well received by most. Like a casserole? No. I do like a little lemon. Oh, sure. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Sorry. I was on baking. I was in bake mode in my head. Okay. No, yeah. Don't, don't ever say that to me again. Okay. I'll do that.
Starting point is 00:08:46 And then what I'm doing? Bacon, sausage and sweet potatoes together. That's a nice meal. That's nice. And then a green curry chicken. And that's basically it. And I can do some Indian food, but it's bad. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Yeah. You feel like, I always feel like that if there's something I can get better at a restaurant, I just never even attempt it. Yeah. Because I'm like, nah, the restaurant's going to do better. Yeah. Indian food I wanted to get good at. And it really bothered me because I remember asking my mom in like a bonding moment,
Starting point is 00:09:14 how do you make this dish when I was like away at university? And she's like, oh, you can just Google it. And I was like, oh, you don't get. Yeah, I just got it from the information superhighway. Yeah. We handed it down through generations and put it on. Yeah, here's a grubby printout that your dad printed out. I'm like, I don't know why yours is different than mine, but I was like,
Starting point is 00:09:38 How do you figure this out? She's like, yeah, it took me about 20 years to try on air. It looks like awesome. Would love to see the results of that. But what is it? It's one of my favorite meals. It's Rajmachavo, which is just kind of a slow-cooked kidney bean in like a basic Indian curry base. Wow.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Yeah. And then you just, you serve that with some non or rice or whatever. With rice with non. A little bit of yogurt really makes it go crazy. This sounds delicious. And it's very easy to make. When you say yogurt is a fine. Is it okay if I just have a yop?
Starting point is 00:10:10 Do a shot of yop like a margarita. Yeah. Yeah, that's another thing which my mom told me. I was using gogerts the whole time. It just really changes the flavor profile. And then you can put the Rajmachab in a tube and you got two tubes. Nice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:28 And then you can go on the go. You're mobile. You're free. You're totally mobile. Not tied to a plate anymore. Yeah, do you ever find that you just don't cook because you don't want to do dishes? That's 100% it. Cooking is so much fun.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Yeah. You get to feel like ratatooie. Driving so fun. You get to feel like Lady McGuin. Swimming's fun. It's just like Nemo. What Nemo would do. Now, past guests on the show, Emily Woods and Steph Neal, I think they hosted a show together
Starting point is 00:11:04 where you're the designated, you're the token man. Yeah, Steph was on the show, and Emily was, it's her show. It's called Cannfest. It's a celebration of breasts, mostly, stand-up comedy. And I'm the designated stage boy, so sort of like a whipping boy. I run around in little shorts. I'm an object to be objectified. They make me do push-ups and stuff sometimes.
Starting point is 00:11:28 How many can you do? Not enough. Not enough for him to be impressed. I think I can do about 20 push-ups right now. To me, that's impressive. Not right now. You hurt your toe. I hear my toe.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Yeah, you need... Your toes are very important in push-ups. Yeah. It's kind of half of it. Most of the body is working during. Sorry, listen to I sound a little off today of my toes messed up. Yeah. Well, we know that as soon as you walked in the door, like, this is not the...
Starting point is 00:11:51 This is not my guy. I should have rescheduled. I'm sorry. But, yeah, like, how many... I honestly, like, under 10 is how many push-ups I could do. Like, all in a row? You got big old arms. Yeah, mostly fat.
Starting point is 00:12:05 What? You get an arm fat. This is crazy. Can you do a bunch of push-ups? I don't know. Whoa. Your strength is untestable. I used to do yoga, and there was a lot of planking, and I was like, I could do a lot of push-ups then, but I don't do that so much anymore.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Yeah. But, yeah, I could do, I don't know, 500. Is that a lot? Well, dude. Cool. But no, that's not a lot. That's not very many to me. It's mostly like I feel like I just get bored in the middle.
Starting point is 00:12:44 So I switch. I do 250 setups. They get back to the push-ups. Oh, so that set up, no way. No, it's, yeah, oh my God. I saw a video of what Tom Holland's workout thing that he does, which is only three things, but he does it like a million times. Yeah, I saw that as well.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Why don't we hold it? Oh, no. I don't know, man. My algorithm. Algorithms of guys you want to be stronger. It was like, They wish their bodies were different. It was a guys who were looking at a 25-year-old boy and being like, I want to be him so bad.
Starting point is 00:13:14 And then I want to propose Zendaya. Get rejected, I think a couple of times and then have it working out. Oh, really? Yeah, she said no a few times. Oh, my God, this guy knows everything about this couple. Yeah. Who's your favorite celebrity couple? Is it them?
Starting point is 00:13:30 Or is it Zoe Deschannel and the Property Brother? It's Zoe Deschannel and the Property Brother. I'm trying to think of who else's... I'm obsessed with them. Yeah, for me, it is whoever is currently with Pete Davidson. Oh, sure. He's the tattooless Pete Davidson now.
Starting point is 00:13:46 He's a whole different... He's a whole new man. Nice Pete Davidson. Oh, was he mean before or just he was... No, he just doesn't have tattoos now. I think he was replaced by a evil clone parallel universe style. Oh, okay. But the way that they show is evil is that he doesn't have tattoos.
Starting point is 00:14:00 But there's nothing evil. So in your mind, Pete Davidson was evil because he had tattoos. tattoos and now he's nice because he doesn't? Yeah, I guess what I'm building up is a little confusing. But I can also see in your arm that you have a tattoo. Don't tell anyone. Yeah, all right. I'm the evil me.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Ellen famously mean, I don't know that she's very tattooed. Oh, no, I've heard anything that's not covered is covered. Oh, it's like dolly party. And it's all like nude pinup girls and stuff. Kind of crass about it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I'm trying to think of like the,
Starting point is 00:14:35 The other day when I was walking up the train, I saw a guy with a Joker from Dark Night. Awesome. And big, big on his leg. And I was like, that's got to be a, that's got to be a red flag, right? Yeah. Well, I have the Jared Lotto Joker on my leg. And the whole time the tattooer was like, it's not too late, not too late for me to change it into E. He pledger Joker.
Starting point is 00:14:58 We like that one. Everyone likes that one. Then it was time to settle up. And I was like, can I pay you in dead rats? Can I pay you in a burning pile of money? Because it would go with, I guess, the most popular Joker tattoos. Number one would be Heath Ledger. Number two would be Joaquin Phoenix.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Number three. Awesome, really. Jack Nicholson? Jack Nicholson? I mean, for sure, Jared Lidd is at the very, very bottom. Below Caesar Romero? Yep. Caesar Romero rule.
Starting point is 00:15:27 I'm forgetting about these older jokers. Yeah, do you ever think how many more jokers you're going to see in your And it fills me with dread. I think it seems kind of mathematically the rate of jokers is increasing over time. Like kind of every decade there's more and more jokers, right? Yeah. So, I don't know, by the time I'm 40 or 50, we'll have hit a singularity, and there'll be 100 jokers every minute.
Starting point is 00:15:54 That is, yeah, that's scary to be like, wow, you're going to only got so many jokers in your life. Yeah. Like any Joker that you're seeing could be your last Joker. That's true. And right now we're on the Joaquin Phoenix one. Although there was an appearance of a guy maybe in the Batman, I can't keep it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:13 I can't keep it straight. And now I'm really thinking about a guy who's watched Jared Leto Joker and then died very shortly after. And I wonder if that guy still gets to go to heaven. Or does God drag him down and say sorry, buddy. Can't help him. So it goes, yeah, mashed. Yeah. And then scalloped.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Also, chip. Chip is, you know. Is Jacka potatoes baked potatoes? I think so. Okay. Yeah. And, uh. It's also what I tell potatoes.
Starting point is 00:16:49 But I'm encouraging them to, you know, it's natural to masturbate. When you're teaching potatoes X-A. Yeah, yeah. It's like, like, you know, every, It's okay. It's totally fine. Come on. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:17:03 To like a picture of a cheesy cauliflower. Is it the same species? No, but, you know, the potato's fucking nasty. Oh, okay. Aren't there like AI videos of potatoes wagging off? No, of like, vegetables, like, cooking each other and like having a hybrid babies. And I don't have this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:29 My algorithm hasn't given me this. I've seen too many of these videos. It's a vegetable looking at two other vegetables having sex? Sometimes that, sometimes it's like a vegetable husband and a vegetable wife, and then the wife gives birth to a vegetable baby, but it's a different vegetable than the husband and the wife. This is a whole genre of things. Yeah, like I've probably seen 15 or 20 of these videos.
Starting point is 00:17:52 This is insane. And those are the ones that I haven't skipped. There's so many more. There's so many things that I feel like the algorithm is, serves up like a little, you know, like just kind of throws a wild one in there once in a while. Yeah. And then, you know, you know, goes to you click on it. And then it's on. Yeah. Oh, I get so many that are like, not AI videos, but just like a video that's some person who has, you know, 400 followers, but this one video of theirs has a million view. Yeah. And it's like,
Starting point is 00:18:21 got some inside joke. And all the comments are, I don't get it. Yeah. Like, can someone explain what's going on? Or like, it'll, like, it'll have text on the video. It's like, when he realizes, and then all the comments are like, when he realizes what. What is happening? And like, the ones that, like, make me want to scream is anything where they're like showing you how to do something and it doesn't show the end product? Yeah. That's. That's.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Or anything, yeah. Blueball. Anything where it's like, and, uh, subscribe for part two. Fuck, no. No. No. I'm not doing that. If you can't get it all in one video.
Starting point is 00:18:58 I'm going to read a book Don't make me Don't make me I've lived that life in a long time The worst AI ones that I've served up Are where it shows a young version of a guy And an older version of the guy
Starting point is 00:19:13 Sitting together on like a bench or whatever It's uh I mean I'll watch them If they come across I don't skip right away I'm like well you know Let's see what current Kurt Cobain says to young Kirk Cobain
Starting point is 00:19:23 Yeah Yeah exactly There's sometimes they do it Where they show like the update. Don't do it. Yeah. Don't do it, mate. His future self is Australia.
Starting point is 00:19:35 He goes to find himself in Australia. Yeah. You travel. You love it. That was his problem. Never travel. Yeah. But sometimes they'll show, you know, whatever, like young Michael Keaton, old Michael Keaton.
Starting point is 00:19:51 And then they'll show young someone and the person's dead. So then the person next to them has angel wings. It's really weird, man. Yeah. This is some kind of desecration. Yeah. This can't be legal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:06 What's your memes or your algorithm serving up to you? What do I got? It is a lot of those AI videos. My hip's been acting a little weird, so I'm watching a lot of hip exercise video. Oh, yeah, yeah. Where, like, it went really quickly. Is it the same hip on the same leg as the toe?
Starting point is 00:20:23 Yes. Wow. And I'm not going to look into that. that. Okay. And I reduced the connection there. It's, yeah, my, my algorithm's not something I'm, I'm proud of by any means. Well, you're never proud of it.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Because for a while, and I didn't do this on purpose, but I think they can tell how wide my eyes are dilating. It was just beautiful women. It was just beautiful women. Sure. Every moment of every day. Well, do you click on them? Sometimes, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Well, that's how they know. It's not your eyes dilating. It's your finger poking their boobs. Although sometimes. And then I have to click not interested about a hundred times, and I know I'm lying to myself and that feels bad. I'm interested. But then, yeah, now it's just hip exercise videos and then anime fan theories.
Starting point is 00:21:04 So it's kind of darker than just looking at the ladies all the time. What's the big fan theory? What's the... Well, how deep do you want to get? Shallow. Yeah, yeah, shallow as possible. I don't like that. I want to get really deep.
Starting point is 00:21:18 I don't like what you guys said. Yeah, yeah, we, yeah, well, because we're well-vers. Yeah, yeah, dive right in. You guys like one piece. What's that? You guys like One Piece? Of One Piece. You guys are watching One Piece?
Starting point is 00:21:29 Yeah, the movie comes out in September. Nice. Demon Slayer as well. You guys are on that? Well, I don't offend me because I come from a long line of demons. What about Demon Layer? Oh, he likes that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:49 What do you, Sigmund Freud? I come from a long line of demons. I want to lay them? Yeah. Yeah. But they do have that show about your demon player. Okay. What's...
Starting point is 00:21:59 Who's this? What are... Yeah, what are the big fan theories? There's a lot of speculation. The whole show, One Piece, is a bunch of people trying to find this treasure that a big pirate left behind. Oh, yeah, I watched the first minute. Yeah. It's like, maybe I'll get into this.
Starting point is 00:22:18 This is very popular. There's only 1,200 more episodes to go, my friend. Well, I... To catch up to where they are now, where they're still making episodes. And like, how long is an episode? 20 minutes. Okay, so have you seen all of them? Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Was it 1,200? Seriously? It took me, like, years to get up to where they're at now. That's like me being like, I really want to catch up on General Hospital. It's the same. Go look at it on Tooby. It's all there on Tooby, all the general hospital. And people will recommend me, like, really good cinema.
Starting point is 00:22:46 They'll be like, have you finished the wire? I'm like, I don't know of the time, man. I got a lot going on. Are they still searching for the treasure? Yeah, yeah. It's still the one through line. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:56 And but like it's kind of taking a backseat to like, you know, a bunch of people are trying to kill them all the time. So there's 1,200 episodes. When did it begin? It began like 25 years ago. Okay. It's extremely old. And so the fan theories are, uh, are just so like what is the one piece? The author has written down what it is and then sunk it in a deep sea tunnel.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Okay. Okay. Like in case he dies, I guess, before it gets revealed. Don't worry, put it somewhere everybody can grab it Okay, so I died Just go under the sea Yeah But yeah
Starting point is 00:23:31 And then all he said is that he promises It's not like some like Oh, it was the friends you made along the way He's like it's something awesome Because it's got to be like Someone must have guessed it by now Yeah, for sure But like so that's kind of disappointing
Starting point is 00:23:44 Yeah, but like It's like how long can you keep that thing a mystery? Yeah, I don't know It's going to let you down no matter what I know. I'm going to keep watching until the end. They're almost over and we're so close. Is it really coming to an end?
Starting point is 00:23:59 Yeah. Oh. If something goes for 25 years, I just assume they'll never end it in like the Simpsons. Although I did hear, this is a, this is totally a rumor. 2029, the end of the Simpsons. Really? Maybe, I mean, you know, I'd say.
Starting point is 00:24:14 They better end it like one piece. There better be a climactic battle. Yeah. Who reigns supreme of the Simpsons? Yeah. Probably The power of friendship Really
Starting point is 00:24:25 Yeah They better pay off a lot of stuff Like Principal Skinner better eat those shorts Yeah Oh shit Now I'm trying Better get got by Homer
Starting point is 00:24:39 I'll get you boy Yeah That strangling better Work Better take It finally better put them down That really They just faded that out
Starting point is 00:24:48 quietly The strangling element There's no Apous situation where there was like a press announcement. Yeah. Yeah. These guys,
Starting point is 00:24:56 he gone completely now. Yeah. I thought they just got a brown guy or something. Now they couldn't find one. Damn it. It was like that movie. I could have done a racist voice. I'll sell myself out.
Starting point is 00:25:09 I don't care. It was like that movie Million Dollar Arm where they go around India trying to turn a cricket player into a baseball player. It would be so many who wasn't a baseball player, cricket player, into hockey player. Or a cricket player into Apu's voice. So what is the theory? What is the one thing? What are people theorizing?
Starting point is 00:25:38 There's just, I can't keep track of them well. Because there's so many people are just saying a bunch of different stuff. And some of it's, I, hey, can I tell you guys something? No. I hate that I brought this up. I hate that I brought this up. I hate that I'm talking about this. But this detail.
Starting point is 00:25:53 There's like, some people are like, okay, so there's a thing in the show. You can only have one type of power. If you get a second power, it'll, like, kill you. It's the thing that lets you have two powers. Oh. But the people are noticing, oh, when you approach the island where the treasure is, if you have a power, you start to get really sick and it keeps you away from it. Some people, like, it's just a bunch of gold.
Starting point is 00:26:13 So they know where the treasure is? It's on this island? They have met people who have been to the island because they deposited the treasure there initially. They met those people. and they have a vague idea of what you watch this alone yes I watch this alone I'm just saying I'm just saying I'm going from my adulthood I just it's very hard to like coordinate with other people 1,200 times yes yeah yeah really really difficult I have like some friends who also watch anime and we talk about it but this this one I'm kind of riding solo on
Starting point is 00:26:44 yeah I feel like anime hadn't quite arrived yet like it is now when I'm I was in prime cartoon watching years. It just had like... Sailor Moon. At Sailor Moon, we had Astro Boy. We had, what's the one? Akira? It was called?
Starting point is 00:27:03 No. Yeah, Acquist. It was a great movie. Yeah. And, you know... Bleach, maybe. Which one? Bleach.
Starting point is 00:27:09 No, no. No, that was a Nirvana album. Avatar, the... Last Airburner. Yeah. But then, yeah, I think there's... There's a guy that lives in my apartment building that's on the ground floor. And every time you walk by, it doesn't matter when, always watching anime.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Yeah, this is really a, like, a golden age of, like, access to anime. Yeah. It's so easy to get out. I have a separate streaming service for watching anime. I've, like, deleted regular ones because I'm like, I'm not going to watch Prime. I'm not going to watch all of cinema. I'm going to watch everything the Japanese have made that doesn't have real people in it. Do you...
Starting point is 00:27:49 Oh, Kurosawa? I'm not interested in it. Thank you. Give me and then fill in the blank here. Yeah. The sword of Jeff or whatever. Two Jeff references. Jeffer's.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Yeah, Jeff's a big character. Kind of across. Across cultures. Yeah, yeah. From Italy to Japan. There's, I'll see sometimes pictures of, from like a upcoming fan expo where there's somebody signing autographs. And it'll be at least one guy and then like 28.
Starting point is 00:28:20 anime characters and I'm like I never there's not I can't even He voices them all He voices them all yeah But when you Yeah the guys do extremely well There's a who's the local guy Who's the Dragon Ball English voice
Starting point is 00:28:32 I don't know Peter Calamus Oh yeah yeah He's done a lot of them Yeah I think his life is pretty good Yeah Yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:28:42 When you don't have to go in a booth for A day or two And record all your things And then just go Then you're down that line I mean But then you have to go to the convention for the rest of your life.
Starting point is 00:28:52 And that, I've talked to a few people who do that, and it seems really tough. Going to a convention? Yeah. And, like, being a voice, or being, like, a famous character. Because most people are nice, but there's a couple of, like,
Starting point is 00:29:01 just skeezy people around that. Well, yeah, and I'm wondering, do you ask them to do the voice, your favorite voice? Yeah, while they're signing your poster. Yeah. Are they obliged to do that? And, like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:12 I feel like you get to ask and they kind of have to do it. Yeah. Because you're paying, like, 10, 20 bucks for an autograph, right? Yeah. You're signing my Funko Pop. My favorite videos of celebrities Like leaving a theater or whatever
Starting point is 00:29:26 And getting into a vehicle When they sign a thing They just like basically take the felt And just like one line, one line, one line, one line. And then Thank you, Russell Crow. Well, thank you so much. I promise I won't sell it on eBay.
Starting point is 00:29:41 And I think there's one of Sprint. He's a stamp pad in there? Yeah, can you punch my poster please? Oh, you hit me. Oh. Is there anything outside of the anime versus you would ever go to a fan expo for it? Like, I'd go possibly if there was like 80s wrestlers.
Starting point is 00:30:06 Yeah, I would go with like porno stars. Dave, I got the voice for me. I got great news for you. I got tickets for going to Vegas, baby. Oh, Graham, you would do 80s wrestlers? Yeah, probably. Well, there's a graveyard. Better get on this.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Yeah, it's not a convention center. It's just a room with one chair. One guy sitting down. Yeah. I think their lives are bad. Axi Jim Duggan is there. Yeah, Sergeant Slaughter. I think Sergeant Slaughter is still with us.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Axis still with us. Bruce the Barber Beefcake. He's still with. I know he goes the convention circuit. But yeah, it's a weird, because, like, you have to pay, and then they do a photo with you. Yeah. And it's...
Starting point is 00:30:52 And then you ask Brutus the Barbered beefcake if the rumors are true that he... That he's not a beefcake? No, it wasn't he... Didn't Hulk Hogan's wife say that they... Hulk and Brutus had an affair? Oh, uh, I don't know. It's like not the Bubba the love sponge. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Like, oh, well, they, and like, apparently... A same-sex love affair. Hulk and they were inseparable for years. And they... And Brutus the Barber Reefcake? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Like, they grew up on the same street.
Starting point is 00:31:24 And then everywhere, Hulk went, he was, like, made to be, like, a tag team partner or whatever. And everybody's like, we don't, we don't like this guy necessarily. He seemed to be dragging him into everything. I wonder if they were in love. That'd be nice. Bruton Barbera Beefcake's deal was he was, he would cut your hair after he beat you? Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:46 But originally, before that, his gimmick was just that he was. that he was like a chippendale. Yeah, he had a bow tie and then they added the barber part on top. Okay, so there's this idea that he kind of grows out of being a chippendale and needs to get a job as a barber. I did like the guys who would humiliate their opponent afterwards. Like, Jake the snake would put a snake on you. Yeah. Those are the only two I could think of.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Oh, I'm sure there was somebody. There was a guy called Bastion Bougar. I think he'd fart on you. Oh, sure. It was dunk tank. Tony. They wheel out of dunk tank. They should have that in UFC.
Starting point is 00:32:26 I think it really had to it. If they cut your hair after or something. They all have pretty short hair, I think, the UFC. Don't hurt. You feel bad. Yeah. You're cutting my scalp. Yeah, I think that's another thing my algorithm serves up is a lot of two UFC fighters meeting at the way,
Starting point is 00:32:45 and one being a real jackass, and then him getting flattened in the ring. Just feel good to see. Sort of cosmic justice. What would I go to a convention for? Yeah. I guess like cool, cool R&B guys. Oh,
Starting point is 00:33:02 yeah? Who do you want to go to a convention for? Who would you want an autograph from? Indy Rock people. I would want an autograph from RIP DiAngelo. Okay, that'd be lovely. Or like a Frank Ocean, you know.
Starting point is 00:33:11 All these, like, really cool, Dwele, all these cool mainstream guys. Would you get a picture taken? Yes. Okay. Yeah, yeah. I think. Does anyone even do autographs anymore?
Starting point is 00:33:21 It's like you just... They'll sign a poster. But like, wouldn't you rather... Hey, this is me with the ghost of DiAngelo? I'd have a table that was just a green screen and I like, I'll green screen you into any of these celebrities that are here for less than what they're charging. Welcome, the undercutter. Now, yeah, there's a character.
Starting point is 00:33:44 Oh, did The Undertaker, like, put you in a coffin or something? He would, he fold your arms over your chest like you were a dead guy. Yeah. I think, yeah, the undercutter photoshopps you into an embarrassing situation after he takes you down. I guess, too. It doesn't on his phone really good. Yeah. He's really good. So, uh, you, did you, like, did you always listen to R&B?
Starting point is 00:34:07 Is that? Uh, yeah, from like a younger, well, it was, I got my first, uh, not my first iPod, my first Zoom. My dad worked for Microsoft. up. Oh, shit. So do you get them before everybody else had their hands on them? Nope. He wasn't that high up.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Maybe a discounted. I think they were cheaper for whatever reason. I think he just had one. I think they gave them one. Remember when YouTube put their album on all six existing zoons? Five out of six complained. What was sold as the competitive advantage of a zoo? Was it that it would hold more things or was it?
Starting point is 00:34:47 I can't remember a single thing that was supposed to be better about the zoo. No. It was, this screen looked cool. Yeah. Cool graphics. It had a little square instead of a circle. That was a little bit harder to use and that was nice. I still have, I was cleaning up, give me a minute.
Starting point is 00:35:04 And you found your Zoom? No, I found my old iPod. Oh, the iPod Classic. Yeah. Oh, wow. It's worth a lot of money now. People really want them. Oh, well.
Starting point is 00:35:12 I miss my own one. Oh, wow. There you go. The real deal. I was in a condom there. It's like it's quite. So sticky. Why is it so sticky?
Starting point is 00:35:24 Maybe the rubber is like deteriorated or something? Yeah, probably. It was a 30 gig. It's all the songs leaking out. Yeah. Oh, what do you think's on it? Like, what songs? Yeah, what air of your life is this from?
Starting point is 00:35:35 This is from, uh, this is probably the last one I had before I had an iPhone. Yeah. I have some fan theories about what's on there. It's a map to that treasure. So it would be a lot of indie rock from, like, I think I got an iPhone in 2010, maybe. So. What would be on there? Franz Ferdin.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Yeah, maybe some Franz Ferdinand. Certainly. Fleet foxes. Yeah. Fun dot? No. Come on. No fun, man.
Starting point is 00:36:10 That you were cool. I'm guessing a lot of like... Edward Sharp? No. I mean, all the right era. I guess I'm naming stuff that I listened to in 2010. I'm thinking of Canadian bands like the bicycles and Spiral Beach. Oh, nice.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Tokyo Police Club. Yeah, they'd be on there. Okay. Finally won. Just get shut down right away. Are you a concert goer? Do you go see your favorite? stars live in a person?
Starting point is 00:36:45 I try to. I go very rarely because I have ruined my life with comedy, and so I don't leave myself a lot of free time. Well, there's about 1,120 minute segments. I can think you've left yourself. Yeah, because every night it is like, do I watch the rest of One Piece? Or do you go see David Byrne live in concert?
Starting point is 00:37:10 Do you know, like, I hate to bring it back to One Piece, But you're like, what episode are you on now? Are you caught up? I'm caught up. I couldn't tell you the episode number, 1170. Sure, sure. I thought I was going to ask, like, how far you were from being caught up.
Starting point is 00:37:25 But no. You're not the 200, 300, 300's working. No, yeah. It's been like, I'm watching it for like six, maybe eight years now. Wow. Yeah. I've watched you grow up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Who's the main character? Is there a main character? Yeah. That's a guy named Monkey D. Luffy. I'm 30. Ah. I hate singing he that's out loud. You're 30?
Starting point is 00:37:47 I'm 30 years old. Oh, God. Congratulations. You made it? I did. I know I have two comedy specials? But yeah, the main character's Monkey D. Luffy, and he's a guy who can stretch his body real crazy. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Yeah. He's always, he just wants to be a pirate. He wants to fight guys. That's about it. Yeah. Much like myself. Yeah. I want to be a pirate.
Starting point is 00:38:07 I don't want to fight guys. Yeah. Yeah, I was looking up, not a rock concert, but. Dragon Ball. that was another one we had. Oh, yeah. Does Power Rangers, does that the same? That's of the same origin.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Well, anime seems like it would be animated. That's true. I watched Dragon Ball Z recently. I thought it was really fun. Really liked it. Yeah. So you're in this. You're like the guy that lives in my building.
Starting point is 00:38:31 You're like the same guy. Yeah, I'm kind of consuming it a lot. I don't know what I'm running from. I don't know what I'm regressing into. I don't know why I need this, but I'm loving it. Well, yeah. I mean, look, you're 30 now. by the time you're 50, you'll have that
Starting point is 00:38:45 recipe down pat. I was watching Dragon Ball Z. Goku is sort of like Monkey T. Loofy. Fluffy? Did I figure it? He is. He did they have a lot of similarities?
Starting point is 00:38:59 Yeah. Nice work. It's about watching Dragon Ball Z as an adult because you get to be like, oh, Goku's a terrible father. I'll take your word for it. Yeah. Is Dragon Ball Z the one where there's an old guy
Starting point is 00:39:11 with a beard that's super musly? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I know that. I know that guy. And the guy with the big hair. Those are the two guys.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Do you like, it's not Tom Holland's workout you're looking for. It's old guy super muslin with a beard. Yeah. His main quality in the show, outside of being good at martial arts, is huge pervert. Oh, nice. Yeah. Well, there you go. That's me to a tea.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Crims is checking things off. That's not all in checking off. The Tom Holland one was like 10 pull-ups. 10 pushups and 10 squats and then repeat. Yeah. But like I was called like the Cindy workout or something. I'd be out after one round of it. Oh, I couldn't do 10 pull-ups.
Starting point is 00:39:54 And, uh, no, yeah, that would be the whole work. Is it 10 pull-ups or is it like 20 seconds worth of pull-ups? Either way. I mean, if it's 20 seconds, then you just hang there. Yeah. Even that. I don't know about that either. Um, yeah, I, uh, just thinking of concerts, not at rock concert, but I went to a website
Starting point is 00:40:12 to see how much. Fran Leibowitz, the witty writer. Seats on the floor, $1,000. $1,000. $1,000. On the floor at the arena? She's playing GM plays? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Or whatever Rogers are worth it. You got to get in the pit for that, you know? That's true. Yeah. She's playing at the Orphium or something? The Chan Center. Oh, yeah. But yeah, I was like, oh, I wonder what?
Starting point is 00:40:39 The cheapest seats are $250.50 and then down on the floor. $1,000. How much do they think people like her? And how much money do people have that? We're not all Martin Scorsese losing her shit at everything she says. Yeah, I'd say if you ask your average person, they wouldn't know who she is at all. They'd be like, Vanity Fair photographer? No.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Nope. Fran. There's a person named Fran. Well, there's an Annie named Fran. Do you ever watch the person named Fran? The nanny? No. It's sort of...
Starting point is 00:41:15 What's the nanny? Do you really not know the nanny? No. I love this. Yeah. So the nanny is a show about... I guess they all kind of... They tell the story of it in the theme song.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Yeah. It's a girl from Fleshing Queen. Wait, well, let's just watch it. Oh, sure. I love that we get to watch TV on this. Do you guys have grunchy roll on here? It's an anime streaming service. Is it the one you use?
Starting point is 00:41:40 Yeah. No, I canceled it. so I could get prime so I get my toilet paper delivered This is the nanny Now on DVD No, this is really She was walking in a bridal shop and flushing queen This is kind of my aunt
Starting point is 00:41:59 She's got in her dressier Okay So over the British is flushing to the Sheffield store She was there to sell makeup At the father some more She has style she has flare she was there That's how she became the nanny. There's more.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Oh, yeah. What's just exactly what the doctor prescribed. Watch our NAMC. And the kids are actually smiling. Subscribe to watch it. Do you want to watch this now that you've seen this intro? Yeah. I'm canceling.
Starting point is 00:42:34 Gronji roll. It should be said that it's not an animated show. No. Just the opening of it. I don't think I appreciate as a child. I don't think I appreciated. What a babe. She is.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Oh, I knew it. I knew it from the first day I laid my eyes on her. Also, we're in spinal tap. My, um, uh, my, your algorithm is giving me this guy who is the guy from a couple weeks ago with the two bottle, two, two, two, oh, yeah, a bottle of pop or two beers a week, that guy. Yeah, why not two more beers? That's shocked that he's still alive.
Starting point is 00:43:08 Well, a two-liter pop guy does a promo for the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Let's watch this. Come on, man. Two drinks. a week, what's that going to do for you? Dino. I mean, that doesn't even get you to do with a. A reasonable amount.
Starting point is 00:43:18 If you're, I mean, if you're at home, you'll have like four beer. Yeah. That's just, that ain't, that's just two more. I mean, I'll have six. From what I hear in Hamilton, the hammer, the pregame can get insane at $5. I had no idea of this. Let's rock this. You go right to the concession stand.
Starting point is 00:43:40 They're waiting for you. You might for you to get a. on with the party! That's what's going on in Hamilton. All right, that's enough for you. One time I went to Hamilton, I was like, this is pretty nice. This isn't like how people talk about. And then every piece of media really, really speaks the other way.
Starting point is 00:43:56 Have you guys seen the 24 drinks a day steroids guy? No, no, go on. There's a really lovely man on Instagram who his whole thing is that he wants to get ripped without doing any work. And so he's taking steroids and not working out. And he's also like, you know what? I can take, I can have 24 drinks a day and I can stay functional. 24 alcoholic drinks. Okay.
Starting point is 00:44:20 And there's a... I don't think I can have 24 of any drinks. I mean, 24 juices. Yeah. Yeah. Water. I think it could do 24 water. 24, what's how big of water?
Starting point is 00:44:28 Shots. A Centurion with water? Yeah. Did you ever do any competitive drinking like a Centurion? That's 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes? Yes. And it ends up being about eight beers. I, we were having a party once,
Starting point is 00:44:47 me and some friends. And then they started doing the Centurion. I said, no one's here yet. It's not going to be. Why are we doing it? We're not, like, impressing anyone. And they told you, we're not actually having a party. This is the party.
Starting point is 00:45:01 No one's coming. Yeah. Then they got a quarter of the way through, and people started showing up, and they were like, this is boring. I was like, what was this for? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I thought to get drunk. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:10 I did, what do you call it? Like a shot ski? where it was all the shots on a ski. That's kind of a fun. Not really a competition, but just a fun way to do it. Well, competitive the way you do it. Come on, guys, let's go another round. How was the guy do?
Starting point is 00:45:24 I haven't, by the way, to answer the question I asked, no. But how is the guy doing? Yeah, is he still with us? The 24 drinks a day and steroids. He appears to be still alive. Oh, good for him. Is he getting muscular? That's the weird part.
Starting point is 00:45:41 Is it just working a little bit. He's getting stronger. You can also see his cognitive capacities declining rapidly. And his temper is getting worse. Yeah, there's like a video where he explains, like, how he faces out 24 drinks a day. And he's like, okay, so you just have a couple shots of vodka with your coffee in the morning. That's good. You're set.
Starting point is 00:45:58 And then you just have two to three drinks an hour for the rest of the day. Yeah, because there's only two more drinks. He's like, you're not even getting drunk. I'm just buzzed the whole day. Actually, sounds all right. Isn't that movie Another Round with Mads Mickelson? Oh, I haven't seen it. I think it's about like they try to keep, stay buzzed as long as possible.
Starting point is 00:46:17 Yeah. Sounds all right to me. Like, it turned out really well than leaving Las Vegas. Well, I think he was getting quite drunk. No, that's true. He wasn't just maintaining a buzz. Yeah. The, uh, because, like, steroids only work because you work out, right?
Starting point is 00:46:33 I guess so. Like, isn't that what the point is? Kind of. It's just pumping your body with testosterone, which enhances muscle. Like, it's better if you work out, but I think it still kind of works if you don't. Hell yeah. Okay, maybe I'll do it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:46 And then I have a friend who does take steroids recreationally because he wants to be big and strong. And he told me that he has to take cycles of estrogen as well to rebalance his body's hormones. Oh, really? And to make his balls return to their regular size. That's what estrogen's for. So the balls can come back from that size.
Starting point is 00:47:02 I guess so. Oh. Science is fascinating. Yeah. Balls are fascinating. Yeah, they really are. I always wanted to do, because they say that the first couple of, weeks of steroids are where it really works.
Starting point is 00:47:15 I'm like, well, I'll just do that part. I'll go back to my life and everything's fine. I'm a little bit stronger. And then all your muscles go away. Yeah. What? No. Don't say stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:47:28 And your balls go back to regular side. No. They're way too big. And that's why you need to be stronger. They're so big. I can't walk around. You can't carry them around. Dave, what's going on?
Starting point is 00:47:43 you my friend. Well, a couple things are going on with me. I did go to a concert. We were talking concerts. I went to a concert last night. Friendly Witt's live. Unplugged. See, Fran. I went to a band called Whitney. Oh, I heard they're, they had a hit, don't they? They have a few hits. They're great. They're great. I don't know if they have any hits. I don't know what counts as a hit anymore. there's no like TikTok dance to a Whitney song
Starting point is 00:48:15 I just feel like when I would go to concerts when I was young everyone who knew the band would belong to the same subculture and like everyone would wear the same rolled up jeans and Converse sneakers and now it is like
Starting point is 00:48:31 there's people in like oh yeah super cool bar clothes there's like Al Qaeda also there's an old old old woman There's an old... There's a baby. There's an old meat.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Yeah. Mentioned earlier on the show, Steph Neal. Past guest Steph Neal I saw there. And Whitney. She didn't see me. Yeah. Because she's small. She's very tiny.
Starting point is 00:48:59 She's small. I don't know if she didn't remember me. Of course she would. But I was in the back. I'd like... It was at the Pearl. Have you been there? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:09 Yeah. The times I've been. been there, it's like, if you're not like in the first half of people, don't bother. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's not. The bar is kind of inaccessible. Yeah, and it's not really, it doesn't feel like it was designed to be a venue. It seems like more like it was supposed to be a dance club.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Yeah. Yeah. They just keep shoving rock bands into. It's strange. Yeah. City, man. But they did, uh, I liked them a lot. Uh, nice, nice.
Starting point is 00:49:37 What I described the music? Nice. Yeah. Pleasant guys of vans. Very sweet, high voice. Yep. Very. Nice songs.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Someone told me it sounded like the old pervert man from family guy, the voice. And then I kind of could never listen to them again. Yeah, the voice is, um, it's sort of like that. It is exactly like that. But it's, are we allowed to play Whitney? This I want to show Graham.
Starting point is 00:50:03 I want you to know how correct you are. Oh, okay. Yeah. No, I'm excited. He just did. Um, I was going to maybe go to Daniel C. there tonight and I'm still on the fence about it given the condition of my toe
Starting point is 00:50:15 because you'd have to stand I'd have to get there you'd have to get there first then you'd have to stand Here's their number one song You've got rolled up jeans Yeah well they're They're part of my subculture
Starting point is 00:50:32 Someone described it as Country soul But I don't think it's that country Or soul? No I would say it's neither I left drinking on the scene That does sound like that It's really
Starting point is 00:50:49 They're really good song Yeah Like it's very nice I really liked it And they did a thing You know how like when bands You go to enough concerts And you're like
Starting point is 00:51:00 The encore is like Guaranteed Yeah But it's like just so phony It's like Oh no they're leaving Yeah I think when I went to see
Starting point is 00:51:11 Some 41 there was an encore and then people really just packed up and left and then they did a second encore and people were like, oh, run back to your seats. And they're like, that's the real one when they actually come back. Yeah. Well, and then there's like usually a, like a scene at the end that gives clues about what's going to happen later in the next concert. Yeah, some one will return.
Starting point is 00:51:34 Yeah, Samuel L. Jack. Ultron's going to be the next Whitney concert. But what Whitney did was the lead to go, it goes, um, Hey, we have two more songs, and then we're going to leave for two minutes, and then we'll have five more songs. That's nice. Yeah, I like that. I saw a man recently, and they were like, we can't play another song. The venue said we can't, and they came back, and they're like, we talked to them, and they said we can do one more song.
Starting point is 00:51:59 And I like that bit of theater. I think that makes it fine for me again. There was, I don't know where it was, but the Fugis were doing a set at some concert, and then the venue cut off their mics at 11 o'clock. and of all people, Dave Chappelle would like sassed off the venues. You're making a huge mistake. Well, I mean, he would. I know, but why?
Starting point is 00:52:23 Because he'll do like a five-hour set. Yeah. Wait, they can turn the mics up? Oh, no. Once venues learn this one... Dave Chappelle hates these. And then I went home and I went to bed and I had a dream.
Starting point is 00:52:41 Now, on the show, I have, I talk about my boring dream. Yes. You have very vivid dreams. No, very boring. Very boring. But you remember them well. Yeah, sometimes. But when I do, they're boring.
Starting point is 00:52:52 Like one time, it was Dave, was a bunch of friends in him were looking at a garage. Fixing a garage door. Yeah. I had a recent one that you liked. Yeah. And I can't remember. I can't remember it. The classic one is I had a dream that my travel agent was retiring.
Starting point is 00:53:09 Do you have a travel agent? Yeah. Yeah, Lily. But she's still working. Oh, yeah. Oh, thank God. Yeah, you woke up. Last night, I had an actual, an actual interesting dream.
Starting point is 00:53:21 Oh, neat. Not boring. Okay. So here's what I was happening. I just remember I was running. I was being chased. Oh, wow. And I knew.
Starting point is 00:53:30 This is a good hook. I knew I had done something wrong. I was in trouble, but I deserved, like, I shouldn't have done whatever I did. I don't know what. And I was running. And I was being chased by a priest. Oh. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:53:41 What did you do? We're the devil? And then the priest was like, look at your own hands, red. And it ended up like the priest and I ended up facing off. Like he was like, Dave, stop. And I had to stop. And he had to talk to me. And he said, all right, you're off the hook as long as you let me stab you.
Starting point is 00:54:04 And you're like, well. Well, here's what I said. I was like, he was like, I'm not going to try to kill you. I'm not going to like. cut you up a bunch. Knife goes in, knife comes out. That's the whole.
Starting point is 00:54:16 Reasonable. And he was like, it'll be just like in a league of their own. And I was like, oh yeah, in a league of their own. You think your exciting dreams are kind of boring. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:54:26 He's like, no, it's going to be chill the way I stab you. It's going to be very relaxed. And then I was like, oh yeah, that's fine. It's from a league of their own.
Starting point is 00:54:34 And then, so he stabs me. Yeah, and it's fine. And I think I woke up pretty soon after that. Yeah, my thought was, that didn't happen in a league of their own. I'm like, well, what scene was it where he was allowed to stab somebody? There's no stabbing in baseball.
Starting point is 00:54:50 That's the quote from that movie. That's great. Do you wake up like, like, ah. No, no, just a slow wake-up. What do you think you did? Oh, in the dream? I don't know. It wasn't something that would anger a priest.
Starting point is 00:55:07 Yeah. But not that much, but kind of a lot. as well. I mean, I could think of a couple. Like, it's definitely like a thing where there's, you know, some... Did you go to church as a kid? I want to get into your head. I did, but not Catholic church.
Starting point is 00:55:20 Okay. We didn't have priests. You religious as kid? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. We went to like a Sikh temple, a good water. And like, is there the same thing with like Catholic? A lot of speak and repeat.
Starting point is 00:55:33 Like I say this part, you say the next part. Yeah. Yeah. At a concert, like, yeah, I'm singing. Now you sing. They actually do have a ton of that. It's fun. Well, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:55:41 I don't speak Punjabi. So my parents would just take me there and then repeat stuff. And then later I'd be like, I don't like that I don't understand this. I would say, just do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can either just be fine with it or learn the language. Those are your choices. Yeah, no, I don't, I like, I was being chased, which is funny because priests are chased as well.
Starting point is 00:56:01 They take five thousand tells you. That's true. Yeah. Good ones, anyway. That is funny. That is funny. The good ones are many. But yeah, I feel like I maybe knocked over, you know.
Starting point is 00:56:13 The Holy Water. Or like a statue of Mary. Maybe you knocked over the wine that they used for the blood of Christ. Yeah. Smash. And the priest's like, I just need a little more blood to finish out. Yeah. Finish of the Sunday.
Starting point is 00:56:28 Well, but are people going to drink my blood? Yeah. Out of my stomach? Oh, if you got that garlic, it'll be a nice. It would be like an Italian ball. Oh my God, this woman I'm dating? Go on. She's like, oh, her hair is made of noodles.
Starting point is 00:56:43 Her eyes are like peeled grapes. Oh, no, not. Do you have weird dreams ever? Boring dreams? Have you had a boring dream? Yeah, I have boring dreams pretty frequently. No, I don't even want to talk about it. This is just like one piece.
Starting point is 00:57:03 I'm like, what is there in this that's interesting? I had a dream the other day that I was on a bike and I was going so fast and it felt beautiful. Yeah, that's a nice dream. Yeah. I think I've had several dreams where I've been working in a warehouse. What does that mean? I used to work in a warehouse.
Starting point is 00:57:20 I get mad when the dream is boring and I wake up. I'm like, it was a waste of a night because I don't normally remember my dreams. Yeah. Or I just wake up with the sense that something bad happened, but I'm not really sure what it was. Waste of a night. That's what, like, interesting way of thinking of a boring dream. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Like, that's right. Like, you didn't get the most out of the night. No, I wanted to do something. I wanted to go to a party, but. Do you as a third- Party dreams? Yeah, it seems like you've been to a lot of parties so far from what I'm hearing. I've got a few party dreams.
Starting point is 00:57:51 You ever do the Centurion dream where you have 100 dreams in 100 minutes? Yeah, it's awesome. You get so drunk. Have you ever in a dream? Like, I've had dreams where, like, where smoking cigarettes, and then I woke up and I felt, like, bad. Yeah. Like, I had done it. But then I realized that I didn't smoke.
Starting point is 00:58:13 If you smoked a cigarette now, would you feel bad, like, guilty? Yeah, because I'm like, what a streak. You know, what a streak I would have broken. What's your streak? It's like, boy, boy, almost 20 years. And you haven't had a single, they call them nail coffins. Coffin' Nails. No.
Starting point is 00:58:34 Would it be okay? if I smoked and then kissed you? Yeah. Are you kidding me? That's what, that's my dreams. Not French and hail, but what is it?
Starting point is 00:58:45 You just blow into the other person. No, no, no. I just stink of cigarettes that we're making it. And then I beat you or else like and cut your hair. Now that's a dream. That's better than any cigarette ever had. I think that's one of the lost lyrics of, Hallelujah.
Starting point is 00:59:09 Have you ever had a dream? I think it's a bad haylet. Where you specifically you were watching a movie and then a character from that movie is your dream and you're like, well, this has no mystery to it. I was just watching that thing and now here they are. I don't like it when it's on the nose. Like you were just watching this.
Starting point is 00:59:25 Maybe you'll like more of this. Yeah. Like if I have an argument with someone and they have a dream but having the argument with someone, I'm like, I get what's going on here. Yeah, we're processing stuff. Shut up. Take me to a problem. party.
Starting point is 00:59:38 Should I propose to Zendaya? They might as well. She's not that engaged. She's not ready for a family. Aren't they married already? Are they? I don't know. I thought they got hitched.
Starting point is 00:59:52 Have you tried his non-alcoholic beer? He has a non-alcoholic beer? Yeah, bureau. Hmm. No. It does seem like the product that he would make. It's a kind of weird thing. I don't know why.
Starting point is 01:00:07 there's more celebrities with their own drink than ever before. Well, yeah. There used to be a much bigger thing, I feel like, and then now it is again. How would you mean you used to be, young man? Yeah. In my head, in the 80s, everyone had their own drink. No. I mean, Jay-Z had his own drink.
Starting point is 01:00:28 That's true, Jay-Z did. That was on the 80s. The 80s slimerhead ecto-cooler. Okay. So that's one. That's one example for my point. And surely numerous others. Jayzie, I think, did he had, what was his brand of?
Starting point is 01:00:46 A champagne. Oh, yeah. Okay. And then, you know, there's right now, I hope Burke Kreischer has his own and Hulk Hogan had his own. Ryan Reynolds has a thing? Yeah, Ryan Reynolds has something. Oh, aviation gin. Is that?
Starting point is 01:01:00 Yeah. And who does Crystal Skull vodka? That's Dan Aykroyd. Magroid. And then there's a couple of, I think, like, Andrew Schultz has one maybe, and Sam Marell has one or something. Oh, yeah. There was a, I think there's like, like, it's very easy to get certain merch. So, like, a ton of bands have their own hot sauce.
Starting point is 01:01:26 Oh, yeah. Yeah, easy to carry. Smaller than T-shirt, I guess, yeah. Yeah, don't buy the two of them. My break, ruin the T-shirt. Oh yeah, was the merch situation at this concert. I was right by the merch table, signing autographs. You're dressed like the guy that was on stage.
Starting point is 01:01:46 Yeah, it was me. I was up there. Oh, I had a very classic, very old guy concert experience. I took the Skytray in there. And before I left, I had taken a pill. It was stuck in my throat. Oh, no. So I was like, I got to get to this club so I could get a drink.
Starting point is 01:02:04 swallow my pill. And not inedible. This is like a fiber supplement. This was 100% of metaminesol fiber supplement. I took five. Before we go out of the house. It would be really crazy for Whitney. Oh, I take five every day.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Just try to, they're not like in fast acting. Oh, okay. They're good for you. Fiber's good for you. Yes. And then they had like a little water station. And so I went there because the bar was too, too busy. but then some young women came after me
Starting point is 01:02:35 and they're like, what do you think? And waters? And there were three women and one of them was like, I'll go get us some waters. I love when there's a serve yourself water situation at a bar. I hate having to ask a guy. Me too.
Starting point is 01:02:47 But she went, I'll go get us some waters and there were three of them. And she came back with two bottles that she bought and one cup from the water station. We'll just split the through, like I'll pour some into the cup for you. Yeah, we'll measure it out. Indiana, Julian.
Starting point is 01:03:02 style to make sure it's the exact weight. Yeah, I... And they all got crushed by a big bull there. And weighed it wrong. And she chose the wrong cup and turned into a skeleton. Yeah. Those Whitney concerts are rough, man. Yeah, it's...
Starting point is 01:03:18 Oh, you know what the greatest... Also, like, I don't go to a lot of concerts anymore. But the greatest invention for concert going is now on Instagram where the venue tells you what time every set is going to be. That's awesome. So you don't have to leave that. house until.
Starting point is 01:03:34 And you don't have to see the opening bands, although sometimes you see an opening band. You've got to support the opening guys. I want to see the opening bands. I feel so bad for them. Every time my friends are like, we don't have to be there until like 1130. I'm like, what about those guys? Yeah, but those guys are where we're at, me and my friend's career. Why?
Starting point is 01:03:50 We should be nice to support them. You're right. That's the better way of looking at it. Yeah. I'm an opening act. Yeah. Anyway, love concerts, love dreaming. Did they have an opening act?
Starting point is 01:04:04 Whitney? What was it? Do you remember the name? The set, their set started at 8.50, and I was there at 849. Very respectful time to be there. So I did not see the opening act. Oh, shit. You saw the last minute.
Starting point is 01:04:21 Yeah, that's right. He's heavily tagged out. Yeah. They'll high-fived and then it was Whitney. What was the band instrument reset time? Was that pretty quick? No, I was there one minute before the band went on. Oh, before the, before the headline.
Starting point is 01:04:37 Yes, I see, I see. Right. And you're tall enough to be farther back in the... Yeah, there were some people, though, in the back there were, like, bar stools, and some people were like, they couldn't see anything, but they were so, like, got to hold out of this bar stools. This is like... We're all going to have a big sit after the concert.
Starting point is 01:04:57 This is, like, the most valuable real estate in the world. It really is. I can't see the show at all. but fine. This is where Whitney is going to come hang out after at the bar, the venue that they played. I mean, why not? There might be some free drinks kicking around, you know?
Starting point is 01:05:13 Yeah, I'm trying to think of the last concert I went to. I think it was Guar. It was good? It was great. Yeah. They're coming back to town. Can't recommend them enough. Okay.
Starting point is 01:05:24 Yeah, you got to go in there. You got to wear all white so you get blood bladder all over you. I hear great things. I have no idea. who they are, but I didn't people tell me. Yeah. There's nothing to know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:36 There's monsters. At one point, an inflatable Donald Trump comes out. They saw his head off. That's pretty fun. Yeah. Yeah, you don't need to like, you know, listen to the last album to hear of it. Yeah. I don't need to see, like, how, what they are musically and where they're going, what they've been, you know.
Starting point is 01:05:51 You know, they'll take you on a journey. Okay. But they're a lot of fun. Yeah. And the band that I saw last year or two years ago called Max Sabbath, which is a, Ronald McDonald themed Black Sabbath cover band. Whoa. Where they've rewritten all the lyrics to be about hamburgers.
Starting point is 01:06:07 Yeah. They're the opening act for Guards. So you want the one-two punch. Yeah. Graham, what's going on with you? I yesterday took in some theater. Oh. I went to the theater.
Starting point is 01:06:20 I went to a matinee of a play called The Play That Goes Wrong. Oh. Because past guest. Kelly Ogminton is one of the stars of it. So went to support. the support the team like Fran Leewood's
Starting point is 01:06:35 $1,000 to $1,000 tickets. Yeah, Vancouver Theater is insane. How was it? It was great. I mean to go see it. It is much value for your money.
Starting point is 01:06:48 It's very funny. It's very well done. There's a lot of, it's a farce. So it's just like things are falling, things are breaking. This guy's supposed to be over there and then he pops up over here.
Starting point is 01:06:58 I love that. And the set was like really well done because everything kind of just starts falling apart almost immediately. So, and Kelly was great. She's a stagehand that one of the characters gets knocked out. So a stage hand has to come in and read her lines from a binder, which is pretty good. And, uh,
Starting point is 01:07:16 the play that goes wrong, they call it. Yeah. There's another one that's similar called Noises Off, which is basically the same thing. But I went with, uh, past guys,
Starting point is 01:07:26 Kyle Fines, uh, Sally and his wife, Aaron. And they knew that there's lore around the play that isn't in the play. Is there, like, is it that
Starting point is 01:07:37 or noises off where they do the play multiple times over? That's noises off. Okay. This one, like, but they don't explain this, but in the lore of it, they have one last chance to make this play work, and so they have to go through the whole play
Starting point is 01:07:53 even though it's a disaster. But they never talk about these stakes in the show. But they know them from the British one. Like, there's a whole It's the whole cult thing in Britain. They also do a Christmas special, like a Scrooge, but it also goes crazy. Do you think when all the actors, I guess if all the actors mess up their lines and fuck it up, then I think they just end up with a perfect death of a salesman.
Starting point is 01:08:18 The play that goes right. And they're like, oh, no, it was horrible. Yeah, it's well worth watching. It's expensive. Oh, the theater. Yeah. I thought you said it was cheaper than, uh, Friendly woods.
Starting point is 01:08:32 Yeah, it's much cheaper on the friendly woods. Do you have good seats? Had good seats. Forgot my glasses. Really bad on remembering to bring my glasses to a movie. The times I've gone to the theater,
Starting point is 01:08:45 it's so expensive. And it's like, huh, how are all these people on board with spending so much fun? Yeah. Don't you guys want people to stop going to the movies and stuff and coming here? And this is $100?
Starting point is 01:09:00 I don't know. what you wanted to do. Yeah, and I'm trying to save up money for this friendly Wood's talk. What is she doing? I don't know. I think she just talks. She's the shoot T-shirt cannons?
Starting point is 01:09:19 She just break dances, hours straight, physically so impressive. You go and it's just all gymnastics. You're like, what the fuck? This is crazy. It's way better than what I thought was going to have. I don't like writing anymore. I want to jump around. But the seats were okay, but there was a, I think a mother and son combo where she was the fucking worst.
Starting point is 01:09:42 Oh, yeah? Yeah. How old mother and son? I'm trying to like, no, no, kid son, probably kids, probably 12 would be my guess. And the woman maybe in her 40s. And at one point, because she was like. I'm in my 40s with a 12 year old son. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:00 You could go. You could have a show That's right wearing a big wig? Yeah When you're annoying With my daughter wearing a sun wig
Starting point is 01:10:07 I got a sneaker Insograve doesn't know My daughter and I switched hairs For the evening Yeah Like those What is that? Duplo or whatever
Starting point is 01:10:16 You switch the hairs Playmobile Playmobile Lego Lego Yeah that's true But so it was a combination
Starting point is 01:10:25 of things It was She was Repeating lines that the, you know, somebody in the play had just said. Uh-huh. So she's like, oh, you know, as soon as they finish saying, she just say it again.
Starting point is 01:10:37 And she obviously had, like, in her head or something was telling her, like, you must have the most laughs you possibly can't of this play. So everything that was even slightly a joke, she'd be like, to be winding up for a big laugh. She's looking at the ticket price. She's like, I have to enjoy this. So much. And then, you know, you give the kind of over your shoulder, like, hey, what's going on back there?
Starting point is 01:11:06 You did that to her? I did that. Everybody, all of us did. At one point or another. Did it work? Nope. And then I thought, oh, maybe she's describing it to her son. But I'm like, she's doing a bad job of that, so that can't be what it is.
Starting point is 01:11:21 Doing a bad job of that. She's not describing it. She's just repeating it in case her son's hard of hearing. But, yeah, there's like a, there's a. funny gag where they're trying to take an actor out on a stretcher and they like lift up the stretcher and it's like ripped out and they're just like, this play really goes wrong. It really does.
Starting point is 01:11:38 But she, then she says to the kid like, he was too heavy for the stretcher. It's like, oh, come on now. I don't need all this commentary. I like I think they walked out and the kid's like,
Starting point is 01:11:50 mom, I think you don't respect me. But, yeah, we had to, after the information, we had to move seat. Oh, really?
Starting point is 01:12:00 There were some empty seats that we were located to. And then, Kelly, so funny in it. It's so great. And then after the show, we got some intel that that woman was horrible for everybody there, the box office, the staff. I thought you were going to say, we got some intel that that woman's horrible at every show. She comes to every. But we can't turn it down. She's got the money.
Starting point is 01:12:27 Fran. She ruined, Fran. Yeah, so she was terrible, but I think when everybody's meeting the cast, she knew one of the cast members. But we didn't know. Did you meet the cast? Some of them that were hanging out. You hung out with you met Kelly afterwards? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:47 Yeah. And then there was some castor hangout. And then one of the cast knew her, but we were kind of debating, is this a wife? Is this a sister and a nephew? Is this the wife and the son? Well, they said they didn't kiss, so that means sisters out. My sister's always kiss. Yeah, sisters kiss.
Starting point is 01:13:08 But, yeah, it was fun to find out that she was a nightmare to everybody. Yeah. Yeah. Do you have a sister? I do. I have a little sister. You guys are? No.
Starting point is 01:13:21 Is it only sibling or do you have other siblings? I have a younger sister, older brother. Oh, middle boy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. How's that grown up as the middle boy? It's awesome. I was the youngest child for like a while. My sister's much younger than me.
Starting point is 01:13:35 You got some prime time. Yeah. So I got to be young boy and then now I'm middle boy. And once my brother dies, I get to be old boy. Yeah, he'll be old boy. Yeah. Have you seen an old boy? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:45 Not really. He's 34. But have you seen an old boy? The movie? I think so. Yeah, it rules. Yeah. You have the one where he's stuck in a room and they keep shooting sleeping glass at him and he can't
Starting point is 01:13:58 wake up. Um, I forget. There's a big hallway fight that's really good. Yeah. Okay. I have seen old. He eats a live, uh, octopus. Oh, geez.
Starting point is 01:14:08 Yeah. I got a, maybe I got to rewatch. It's a crazy movie. It's a crazy movie. It's Korean. They remade it with Josh Brolin. Just watch that one.
Starting point is 01:14:14 It's so good. Then Josh Brolin be that good. Yeah. Really weird to me. Um, yeah. And then after the show, uh, was talking and, and, oh, I wanted to ask, how have you ever invited someone? someone to a show and they were just the worst.
Starting point is 01:14:31 Ooh. Well, yeah. Actually, I did go on a date years and years and years ago with a woman who then started talking during a movie and I was like, this is a, like, this is immediately. Oh, yeah. And like talking as if we were like in the living room watching. Yeah. Something on like, you know, streamed or whatever.
Starting point is 01:14:50 Yeah. So it's like, yeah, this is a, we're going to call, we're going to call this a day. Thank you for coming to meeting me. And, uh, I went to a mess movie. movie this weekend and there was a lot of like talking and not whispering. Yeah. But I was
Starting point is 01:15:07 like right in front of the wheelchair area and I was like they may need to. Yeah. There's something going on that I don't understand. Yeah. And maybe. But maybe they're fine and annoying. Yeah, I think that was the
Starting point is 01:15:24 way in the end. But I could have moved. It was pretty empty. I did, but I was like, don't turn around. Don't give them a look. Yeah, but you were sitting in your wheelchair. You don't want to give up the goose. Oh, sure, yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:38 Yeah, exactly. This is the prime seating. What movie did you see? I saw the invite. Invite. Seth Rogan. Oh, Olivia Wild. That one looked interesting.
Starting point is 01:15:49 Was it good? It's very funny. It's sort of a little farce of its own. Love it. I love a farce. I love it. Well, do you guys want to move on to them overheard? Good.
Starting point is 01:15:58 All right. Uh-huh. Hi, I'm Justin McElroy, and I host Sawbones with my wife, Sydney. I'm here with Max Fun, member of the month. Amanda Adams, thank you so much for being a supporter, and thank you for being our member of the month. Woo-hoo! You're so welcome.
Starting point is 01:16:15 How long have you been listening to Sawbones, Amanda? It's been probably a good 10 years. I very much enjoy Dr. Sidney and everything she does, and it's wonderful to be able to support it. Let me ask you about the most important moment in your... life when you decided to become a maximum supporter. Honestly, I am just proud. I can support the people who make me hours and hours of content every week.
Starting point is 01:16:36 I feel honored to do it. Amanda Adams, thank you so much. I really appreciate your support. Congratulations on your whole month. Thank you so much. It has been a good month already. Support the shows you love, including this one. Check the show notes for a link or go to maximum fun.org slash join.
Starting point is 01:16:55 Hi everybody, it's Ellen Weatherford. And Christian Weatherford. People say not to judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. But we can judge a snake by its ability to fly or a spider by its ability to dive. Or a dung beetle by its ability to navigate with the starlight of the Milky Way galaxy. On just the zoo of us, we rate our favorite animals out of ten in the categories of physical effectiveness, behavioral ingenuity, and of course, aesthetics. Guest experts like biologists, economists, Musicians, comedians, and more join us to share their unique insights into the animal kingdom.
Starting point is 01:17:32 Listen with the whole family on maximum fun.org or wherever you get your podcasts. Overheard. Overheard, a segment of the show where, boy, oh boy, is it fun to hear things. And it's fun to talk about those things that we heard. And we always like to start with the guest. Amar, do you have an overheard? I have two. Okay.
Starting point is 01:17:57 Do you want to do back to back or one and then we go around back? Let's one and circle back. The first one is a very recent overheard. I was on a lovely cruise with my family. It was a very nice time. Where'd you go? We started in Greece, and then we ended in Italy and had Croatia and Slovenia, a few places along the way. Was this the Odyssey that you were?
Starting point is 01:18:19 Ah, how'd you know? When you got back, was your wife surrounded by suitors? Yeah, yeah. It was really annoying. It's kind of like the Sex and the City tour, but it's the Odyssey Tour where you go to all the places that they, there's the cave where Cyclops said they made cheese. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:34 The Cyclops isn't there now, so it's way less excited. That's true. I forgot about the cheese. That was, yeah. But the island with the lady. Hell,
Starting point is 01:18:40 yeah. Eh. He's got so much. That's true. He didn't have a lot. He's a big guy. Somebody pointed out to me, and I didn't know what the answer was that,
Starting point is 01:18:50 did he milk? Did he have to milk the tiny? Because to him, the sheep were very tiny. Yeah. And does he just squeeze them to get the milk out? Yeah. Yeah, I think, you know,
Starting point is 01:19:01 And the source material. It's pretty spelled out. Yeah. Anyways, you were on tour. Yes. So I was on tour. Across Europe is beautiful. I was touring my grandpa.
Starting point is 01:19:18 No, it was a fun trip. It was his 90th birthday. And no one who was planning the trip thought about how old my grandparents were. So we were just kind of stuck on a lot of hills trying to get them around. Right. But how much family was this? This was 16 members of my family. 16.
Starting point is 01:19:34 Your grandfather is 90? He's 90. And your grandmother's 84? 22. Yeah. Yeah, he's a hand. What can I say, man? He's a cool guy.
Starting point is 01:19:45 He's a cool guy. So you're on this cruise? I was on the cruise. And whenever you go to like the dining area on the cruise, they obviously, they want people to use hand sanitize because, you know, stuff spreads on ships really fast. Sure. grease the hand sanitizer Ziziki. So we all got so sick.
Starting point is 01:20:06 Out of one of those pumps things? Was that or olive oil? God, it was disgusting. But they would say whenever you'd walk up at the dining hall. Because also they all are,
Starting point is 01:20:21 I don't know why, but they're all required to if they see you, they have to greet you and make eye contact with you. Hated that part of it. But you walk up dining hall, they'd go. reached you, they'd say, hey, and then they'd kind of beckon you over with their hand sanitizer spray, and they'd say, washy, washy, happy, happy, smiley, smiley.
Starting point is 01:20:39 And the third time you hear that in the day, you're like, I don't know which one of us has to die, but it's, we can't both live after this. What is it? What is the order of it? It's washing, washy, happy, happy, smiley, smile. Which I think is what you tell like a dirty baby. Yeah. If you're trying to teach a kid about being clean.
Starting point is 01:20:57 I mean, definitely happy, happy, smiley, smiley, but that could go along with anything. Yeah. I don't have to washy-washy-washy to feel happy, happy, smile. That's so funny, washy-washy-washy-y-washy. I didn't try to, like, get by her and not Santa's my hands, but I didn't push her down. I really think they would stop you if you didn't. What is, um, did they all say this? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:18 Every time? They're, like, it was, at first I was like, oh, it's just this one lady who's saying this. Then it'd be a different guy. And then I'd hear other people in other parts of the restaurant saying it. Were these English-speaking people? Or do they only know that one phrase? No, they all spoke perfect English. It's also, it feels like something that they would have learned, like, in their training.
Starting point is 01:21:41 Oh, but this is just our internal language. You don't say this to the guests. Oh, I got an eBay notification as it happens. What do we got? What are watching what? What I get is, oh, I get a lot. eBay has started telling me, like, there's people doing live streams selling. things. Oh. So don't miss
Starting point is 01:21:59 one dollar lab diamonds, fancy colors and shapes, gems and jewelry. The algorithm, I've never searched your gems on eBay. I saw a video of... It thinks you're a goblin. He thinks you're a gnome. Let's just see what's going on. On the
Starting point is 01:22:15 live stream? Yeah. I can't believe we brought back the Home Shopping Network. Oh, they're just playing music and... Okay, never mind. is he saying freaking rolling that's what i think is he saying freaking rolling or we're freaking rolling yeah um the other thing i had my eye on was a a galliger t-shirt oh yeah a live signed galliger
Starting point is 01:22:43 t-shirt good condition uh yeah i just you know is it gonna fit yeah you know you know hard to tell uh Dave do you haven't overheard yeah that's a matter of fact that uh last week i you you're that was Is it? Smiley, smiley, wash, you watch. Oh, yeah. It just,
Starting point is 01:23:01 I felt really unsettling and. It's very funny. Yeah. Last week I took my children, I guess two weeks ago now, to the outdoor pool. Nice. One of the city's many outdoor pools.
Starting point is 01:23:13 And, um, I sat there and I read a book while they swam around. And they, uh, but there was like, it's all, the outdoor pools, well, at least this one is just kid based.
Starting point is 01:23:28 Mm-hmm. I think the kids, Poole and New Brighton pool are all, like, people can swim laps and stuff. But this is just kids fooling around. Yeah. There was like a basketball hoop over in one side, and there were a bunch of boys playing basketball. Love it. And they, at one point, one of the boys just shouted to address everyone at the pool.
Starting point is 01:23:49 He says, everybody in the pool, if you like to swim, give me a thumbs up. That guy's going to be a cruise director one day. Come on, everybody. How was the reaction? Was it? Thumbs up, man. Oh, it worked. Yeah, I mean.
Starting point is 01:24:11 That voice sounds like AI. It's scary to me. Talk about, you know, pandering. Pandering to your crowd. These are people who are swimming. Yeah. They like to swim. Yeah, what fun.
Starting point is 01:24:26 Were there, is it deep enough? pool to do like awesome cannibals? No, is it really, really shallow? It's really shallow, yeah. Just for jumping around, eh? Yeah, yeah. Slashing around, yeah. Yeah, I don't even think it would be safe to jump in feet first.
Starting point is 01:24:39 Oh, really? Yeah. So, though, we're talking like a six-footer. Maybe not even, yeah. Wow. For a kid? Six foot? That's true.
Starting point is 01:24:47 That's perfect for canniballing. Yeah, maybe like four and a half feet. Yeah, that's not big enough to cannibal. Maybe five. Yeah. Now, kids, we're not going to let you. I'm trying to think of my kids are about just under five feet tall. And I guess they could have been bouncing on their feet the whole time.
Starting point is 01:25:04 Yeah. And that's fun. It's like you remember when you're your kid and you try to keep your head above water but keep yourself as low as possible as you like moved into the beach and get more and more shallow. Kind of like walking like leaning back. Yeah. Feeling like a weird lizard thing. Swamp thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:21 It took so much effort to get your body under the water. It was so cold and now you're warm. But if you get out, you'll be cold. So you're just like maxed down there. I just remember that as being a core memory of my brain. I saw a comedian on just a clip that he was saying, and this maybe doesn't relate to you, but I know it will relate just time-wise that we used to be so bored as kids.
Starting point is 01:25:48 If we were on a drive somewhere, we'd watch a drop of water and just see them race or like, oh, that one's going to join that one. I was like, yeah, that really. I did that. I was maybe part of the last group of people that did. Yeah, yeah. It's really a young folks wouldn't know.
Starting point is 01:26:03 Well, there's that office episode where they're watching the DVD logo bounce around the street. Trying to see it going to the corner. And I used to do that with the wipers on the bus. Well, they go swish. They're happy, happy watching. But they weren't synchronized. And only every like four or five swishes would they come. together.
Starting point is 01:26:28 It's, uh, yeah, but the life used to be a lot more boring. Yeah. Yeah. And now it's like, you can just escape it. Like this tomato couple's having a cucumber baby. And I'm involved. People are keeping their eye on yama mama. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:41 I would imagine the cucumber couple when I was a kid in the car. Instead of looking at a raindrop, I would imagine vegetables cheating on each other. Did you ever do this driving in the car? Have your fingers like running along like, pretending that you're running along the water. Absolutely. Yeah, I'd imagine a big skateboarder skating on all the power lines. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:01 Yeah. Oh, man. And look how we turned out. Yeah. Anyway, Graham, do you haven't overheard? I do. Mine was on the train, and it was two bros talking about the old days. And one of them said, remember when I lost that toenail? And the other guy said, yeah, dark times.
Starting point is 01:27:23 Yeah, man. You heard your turn. To this is like, you should pay attention. Yeah, I'm worried about the, I, do you know where these guys are? Is it? I just made two new friends. I broke a toe a year or two ago, got my pinky, um, snagged on, like, the corner of a wall. Oh, I hate it.
Starting point is 01:27:41 I hate it. I think that's what happened to me. And then, you know, it changed color. Went to the doctor. The doctor was like, what you want me to do it? It's broken toe. Is that what they say? I'm not going to go to the doctor.
Starting point is 01:27:52 Tape it to its buddy. Yeah, maybe you should try that. Tape the toe to another toe. Okay. Yeah. Which toe? Biggest toe? Whatever's toes next to it.
Starting point is 01:28:01 No, I would go biggest toe. I actually go big toe on other foot. Oh. Feet together. Yeah. Pogo jump. But with your legs crossed. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:13 You had a second overheard. I had a second overheard. A long time ago, on the train, I remember seeing a guy get a call on his phone and he lifted it up and it just said Joe's woman. Huh. You know her enough to have the number. Yeah. But not enough. It's like Jesse's girl.
Starting point is 01:28:32 Yeah. This is who I want to steal from Joan. Yeah. No one wants Joe's woman. Jesse's girl is awesome. Joe's woman is very mean to Joe. Yeah. Was he not taking the call?
Starting point is 01:28:43 He's like, nah. Yeah, he looked at it and put the phone down. I was like, dude, you got to talk to. I'm not going to talk to Joe's woman. There are like, I saw a video about how we do that with our phone that are like, you know, uh, Susan hairdress. or whatever. And like,
Starting point is 01:28:57 oh, that's how our last, we got our last name. Oh, yeah. That's right. Yeah. So her name would be Joe woman,
Starting point is 01:29:06 I guess. Yeah. Or it would be like, oh, Marsha Joe woman. Or someone could, like, that's where you get son and dot,
Starting point is 01:29:13 like Davidson and Johnson. Oh, yeah, oh, John's son. Easy enough. Joe's woman. I,
Starting point is 01:29:19 on my phone, I only realized it the other day, some of the numbers, and they like haven't changed since forever. I put them into my phone like when I didn't have a touchscreen, like they still buttons. So there's some that are just like in all caps.
Starting point is 01:29:33 You know, just like, Brian. Yeah. Joe's woman. I have numbers in my phone from 20 years ago. Yeah. From my old phone, pre-Iphone phone. And I just like, what if that person calls me? I want to know it to them.
Starting point is 01:29:53 Like, you got to keep everyone's. number. Just in case. Just so you know not to answer. One of the things. Like, oh, you keep your enemy's phone number? Yes, of course I do.
Starting point is 01:30:04 Yeah. I don't want to have that conversation. I don't want to accidentally be like, talk to me. It's me. I found you, Dave. Checkmate. Oh, no.
Starting point is 01:30:18 The chest rest. He's coming from me. Now, we also have overheard's sent into us by people all over the map. If you want to send one in, you can send it into SPY at maximum fun.org. This first one comes from Alex in Rhode Island.
Starting point is 01:30:35 I was walking my dog in our neighborhood, and I overheard some kids playing pickup basketball. There was a foul, and the kids were disagreeing. One adamantly protested to say, I swear I'm telling the truth on my mother's life and my dead grandmother. The big two. This guy's not lying.
Starting point is 01:30:54 He's not afraid. to put it on whatever works. Yeah. I'll swear it on anything. A live thing, a dead thing. Doesn't matter to me, man. And on my comodos grand boat.
Starting point is 01:31:07 Yeah. He's hovering between. I swear on that guy who's trapped under my dad's car. He's like, he didn't foul. Ball don't lie. This next one comes from Chris in Akron. Ohio? Is that where?
Starting point is 01:31:26 Yeah, yeah. My wife had taken our dog into the front yard to use the bathroom, which isn't particularly notable. When she came back in, she told me that a car drove by her house while our dog was pooping because it was dark. She didn't get a good look at who was in the car, but as they went by someone in the car, he held out the window, that's a big shit. Who is that? You got to call them like you sees him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's true.
Starting point is 01:31:54 when you are it is like humiliating that you and your dog have to do this in public I mean when I say you
Starting point is 01:32:02 and your dog I mean you do it to encourage the dog to show them that it's safe to do this yeah
Starting point is 01:32:09 we're both doing it come on you love this it's your favorite when we do this together hey that's a big shit thank you
Starting point is 01:32:18 I've been taking brand pills just washed one down a throat full of metamus This little caplet. A reason that I know that I think maybe I try to be too pleasing to others sometimes is that I heard that dogs...
Starting point is 01:32:31 Could you actually do a better job of that? Oh, internalize that. Is that I heard that dogs, when they're looking at you, well, they're pooping, they want you to be looking around because you're supposed to be, like, guarding them. So that wherever I'm like walk my parents' dog, I make eye contact with him. And then I scan the area heavily. And I try to make sure I'm like, we're good, man. Nothing's coming.
Starting point is 01:32:59 I'm the opposite dog. I like attention. Eyes here. Give them locked. This last one comes from Julie from Washington. My family and I were driving through a small town on our way home from the beach. We passed by a tavern with a marquee that said, it's gizzard time. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 01:33:18 It's not even Thanksgiving time. What is the gizzard? Isn't it the hanging thing? Isn't the loose bits of meat and stuff? Or it's just like gizzard is just like a pack of... I think so. Giblets. Oh, I might be thinking giblets.
Starting point is 01:33:32 Yeah. Gizzard is... Gizzard, giblets, and gristle. The holy trinity of... That's my Christianity. It's an organ found in the digestive tract of some animals, including birds and other dinosaurs, crocodiles, alligators. Oh, cool.
Starting point is 01:33:48 Terosaurs, earthworms, and some gastropods. And some fish and some crustaceans, that specialized the specialized stomach constructed of thick muscular walls is used for grinding up food, often aided by stone or grit. So like when chickens eat gravel. Yeah. You got to be careful when you eat in the gizzards. You don't know if there's a stone kicking around in there, right? Anyways, you guys, it's gizzard time.
Starting point is 01:34:13 I hope this was a permanent sign, temporary one. Yeah, it's always gizzard time. Derry Queen this month has a gizzard blizzard. Oh, nice. In addition to overheards that are written in, we also accept your phone calls and voice memos. If you want to send a voice memo, email it to SPY at maximum fun.org. And if you want to call us, call us. It's one 844-779-7631.
Starting point is 01:34:42 That's one. Ugh. SpyPod. One, like these people have. Hi, Dave, Graham, and possible guests. This is Aaron calling from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. with an overheard. This morning, my husband and I are packing up for a trip to the shore
Starting point is 01:35:00 that my 13-year-old daughter and I are going on. And as we were getting ready to leave, he paused to say, you know, how much he's going to miss us, how he said he can't go because of his work trip. And we just hear in the background quietly for my daughter, I'm going to miss my cake I love you guys I'm going to miss my cake?
Starting point is 01:35:27 Yeah I understand it man Well That daughter respects her dad Yeah Do your kids ever say my king? No my cake My cake
Starting point is 01:35:41 Oh I heard my king I see you'll have everything Yeah My cake It'll be funny if you made your kids Call you king My leash No, they call me their cake.
Starting point is 01:35:56 Yeah. Are you dad, father? What are you? I'm father. You're father? Are you really? Yeah, the kids say father and mother. They thought it was funny.
Starting point is 01:36:06 I love it. It is pretty funny. And your kids are two Victorian ghosts. Yeah, exactly. I love the formality of it. Father. Father. All right.
Starting point is 01:36:19 Here we go. Next one. Dave Graham and probable a guest. This is Tim calling from Vancouver. I was just in my local shoppers going to the Canada Post counter to pick something up. And the Canada Post guy was behind the counter and the letter carriers came in to drop some stuff off. They were chatting for a second. And they were discussing where the usual letter carrier for that route was.
Starting point is 01:36:47 and a guy goes Trevor? Oh yeah Trevor's off till November He goes Oh yeah He's doing his gig And when he said gig He kind of did this jazz hands
Starting point is 01:37:00 Kind of gesture And then the other guy goes Oh yeah What is that He's a clown And the other guy goes No no A magician
Starting point is 01:37:09 Anyway Off I go Clounds of the sea So someone's letter carrier doing four months of I love it of magic yeah and it's one of those things
Starting point is 01:37:23 probably always like I don't do it now I'm never gonna do it you when are you get the chance yeah yeah you know there's only so many times in a letter carrier's life where you can take that sabbatical yeah did you ever watch that it was like someone's magic special and it was very serious
Starting point is 01:37:40 and there was the audience was full of like celebrities not like David Coffered Field. No. It was like, uh, like high minded,
Starting point is 01:37:50 very kind of like, it was called formal magic. It was very fancy. Was it called like in and of itself? Hmm. And it was like, it was incredible. And like,
Starting point is 01:38:01 I cried watching it. Yeah. Like there were like, the audience was crying. It was on like, I think you can see it on YouTube. It was something. I feel like it was on Hulu.
Starting point is 01:38:11 So I don't know what it was on in Canada. That I know exactly. But it was like such a. Like a one-man show. A one-man show, but it was very magic. It was magic, and it was like, you had to, like, pick a card off the wall that was like, I am a blank. Yeah. I was thinking about that.
Starting point is 01:38:26 I was just rewatch that. Yeah. Let me know where, yeah. I feel like my respect for magic was really high as you get older. And then late teens plummets. It goes right to the bottom. And then as I enter my mid-20s, right back up. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:42 Yeah. I'm just like, man, these guys are awesome. They make a ton of money. too. A lot of them. It was called in and of itself. It was by Derek Delgadoio. El Godio?
Starting point is 01:38:52 Delgado. Delgado. D-E-L-G-O-D-E-L-G-O-O-D-G-O-G-O-G-O-G-O-E. And it was from 2020, so maybe I was just crying because of COVID. But, yeah, that one, that one rocked. Yeah, that was a good one. Check it out. And your final, overheard.
Starting point is 01:39:14 Hey, guys, it's Jen from Toronto. I was in a grocery store this afternoon, and a customer walked up to an employee and said, excuse me, where's the toast? And the employee said, do you mean bread? And the customer said, yeah. No friggin' way. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 01:39:35 I'm just getting ahead of myself. Yeah, but this will be toast, right? I can turn this into toast. Is this compatible with my... I have a cuisanart toaster. Is this going to work with that? I have a George Foreman, Beninue Press. Will that toast this?
Starting point is 01:39:57 Oh, man. I was just thinking about that the other day that originally they approached Hulk Hogan with that grill and turned it down. The different world. It is a different world. Oh, man. That's what I'm going to change
Starting point is 01:40:08 if I ever get a time traveling device. Hulk, you got to say yes. He's going to be rich, man. What did he endorse? since day it was some sort of blender or juicer or something like that. Yeah. Sure. Like, uh, George Foreman,
Starting point is 01:40:24 that's probably made more than he ever did in all of his boxing career. I think that's guaranteed. Yeah. I think that's documented. He boxed for some pretty big purses in his day. Yeah. He got a Louis Vuitton first. He looks so cute with it. A chel fire.
Starting point is 01:40:40 Lots of nice stuff. Uh, well, that brings us to the end of the episode. Amar, tell us where people can find you. Where can they find your special? Where can they learn about you online? You can find me at Real Exciting on Instagram. Real exciting.
Starting point is 01:40:56 Yes. R-E-A-L, not R-E-E-L. Oh, okay. It used to be a really cool Instagram name, and now it's confusing for people. Yes. Because they added reals. And at my wife, right, on TikTok.
Starting point is 01:41:09 Okay. Fun one. Fun one from my youth. I came up with that screen name. Used it a lot. Um, and then the special is called, please don't kill me. It's on YouTube, but please watch it and, uh, subscribe it. Uh, subscribe to me because the special is way, way less views than all my friends specials.
Starting point is 01:41:28 And I feel embarrassed. I'll stream it as soon as I get home. Thank you. Yeah. And then please keep your eyes peeled for little cuties, tend to be titled coming out soon. Okay. Yeah. Uh, well, thank you so much for being our guest.
Starting point is 01:41:39 Thanks for having me. This was a lot, this was a lot of fun. Uh, everybody out there. Thank you for listening to the show. If you're in Hamilton, stop by one of their games, and you might get to see that beer guy, I guess. And come on back next week for another episode of Stop Podcast at yourself.
