Strict Scrutiny - Is This Thing On?
Episode Date: June 19, 2019Strict Scrutiny is hosted by three women, Leah Litman, Kate Shaw and Melissa Murray, who are three law professors, but they’re also swimmers, mothers (of humans and dogs), and celebrity gossip enthu...siasts. They’re women who’ve practiced before and write about the Court in their professional lives. They have a different voice–- one that celebrates the contributions and opinions of women and people of color. They provide intelligent and in-depth legal analysis alongside their unvarnished, respectfully irreverent takes. And they want to do it in a way that is accessible to a variety of listeners, including Supreme Court regulars, lawyers, law students, and members of the public who are looking for a window into the Court’s decisions, as well as its culture, personalities, and folkways. The hosts think SCOTUS is serious business—but they don’t take ourselves or the Court too seriously. They’ve got hot takes, jokes, and a lot to say. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Threads, and Bluesky

It feels like the Supreme Court is constantly making headlines.
Nine people with lifetime appointments who can change our lives with each opinion.
Strict Scrutiny is a podcast all about the Supreme Court and the culture that surrounds it.
Each week, we'll recap oral arguments, break down opinions,
and help you
understand what it all means for our daily lives. I'm Melissa Murray, a professor at NYU's School
of Law. I clerked for Justice Sonia Sotomayor when she was on the Second Circuit, and I write
about the legal regulation of intimate life, aka the sexy side of the Constitution. I'm Kate Shaw.
I'm a professor of law at Cardozo Law School. I clerked for Justice Stevens, and I write about executive power, administrative law, and all things SCOTUS.
And I'm Leah Littman, a law professor at the University of Michigan. I clerked for Justice
Kennedy on the Supreme Court, and I write about federal courts, constitutional law,
and my all-time favorite, habeas corpus. And if you don't know what that is, that's A-OK,
because whether you're a seasoned lawyer or you just want to hear all the tea about the Supreme Court, strict scrutiny is
here for you with irreverent takes, pop culture analogies, and plenty of nicknames for our
favorite and our not-so-favorite justices.
